Hi Well here's the deal My year old - quot LG LCD Flatron W T is pretty much FUBAR I'm planning to get a new monitor in a couple hours Preferably a quot or above LED - maybe a Samsung LG or any suggestions recommendations brand wise Now since I'm going to get a new monitor DDR3, you a matter it card? Does etc video use if DDR2, i decided to get a new graphic card as well My current card is an old NVIDIA GeForce GT MB DDR Before i continue let me mention that my motherboard is Gigabyte G M-Combo I could use both DDR and DDR memory RAM but Does it matter if you use a DDR2, DDR3, etc video card? I'm uncertain about graphic card -part questionAs i understand my current graphic card is a DDR Does it matter if you use a DDR or DDR video card Or the DDR etc plays a factor and i can't use anything other than a DDR If i could use any card DDR etc which brand model should i go for only select the list posted below please - You don't have to be specific if you don't want to a simple answer such as 'You should always go for -i e Asus-' would be good as well As I'm on a budget i could only get one of the following Asus ENGT Silent GB DDR Asus EAH EAH Silent GB DDR MSI N GT GB DDR LProfile Palit GF GB DDR PCIE Palit GT GB DDR B TC Sapphire HD GB DDR Sapphire HD GB DDR PCIE XFX GT GB DDR XFX HD GB DDR EVGA GT GB DDR Thank you for your time and patience It's truly appreciated Cheers Dan

Preferred Solution: Does it matter if you use a DDR2, DDR3, etc video card?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The short answer is always opt for the faster components in your system, within your budget.
DDR3 RAM and GDDR3 Video card.

OK! I am a noob at this!
I am running XP Pro 32-bit. I want to replace the Video Card. Nothing great or expensive...just a decent one. It for a friend (senior, that is why XP). I just got him a Dell Vostro 200 slim, added a 1TB HD and installed all drivers and XP. Please let me know 3 things:

1. Does ddr2 or ddr3 matter on the video card..is one better to run on XP
2. 64-bit or 32-bit. I assume 64 will run on 32-bit XP
3. Any suggestions on the card or where to buy (PCI Express 2.0X16)
Thanks! Ynot

A:Does it matter if you use a DDR3 or DDR2 video card?

The only thing you need to know about buying a single graphics card:

Do I have a large enough power supply for this card?
Do I have the appropriate card slot for this card?
If the card is 2 (or 3) card slots wide do I have room in my case?
What monitor cable connector will I be using?

Everything else may be important for choosing the card you want but not needed to get the card working.

1) Graphics card memory type is irrelevant as far as the operating system is concerned.
2) I'm not sure why you are asking the second question.
3) We need to know what you will be using the card for. (A slim form factor doesn't give much options)

I dont get why there are DDR, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4 (I think it goes to 4).

Like they all go in PCI-Xpress 16x slots. Will all of them work with a PCI-express 16x slot?
Wouldnt it be best to get the fastest DDR RAM? Or do you want it to match your PC?

IE: I use PC3200 400mhz ddr ram for my pc, would my video card wanna be just ddr?

A:Video Cards, ddr, ddr2, ddr3, ddr4? Does something matter here?

Well the memory on the card has nothing to do with the memory on the computer. the memory on the card act like the memeory on the computer. It will store thing there for faster access. So the faster the memory faster the resaults.
It just like regular memory but geared toward video cards. It just different speed of memory

So I don't think it would... But if I have a DDR2 board with DDR2 RAM would it make my computer unstable to put a video card with DDR3 in it?

Posted via Mobile Device

A:DDR3 video card on DDR2 board?

no.

Memory on the video card is for the GPU (graphics chip) to store the image data. It has nothing to do with your computer ram. Note: many of todays video cards have gDDR5.... how many DDR5 motherboards are out there? None.

Issue with video card you should be concerned with is power supply and abilties to play the games you want to play.

I got myself a new mainboard that is based on the ATX DDR3 AMD standard. But I also thought that the old NVIDIA Sparkle (GTX260--896MB) that is based on the DDR2 internal memory set still would work since the connector on the card is PCI-express. Does the DDR2 memory (896MB DDR internal graphics memory) stop the communication with the DDR3 mainboard? Its a bit unfear since this was not the case between DDR1 up to DDR2. Why has there come up such a brickwall between DDR2 and DDR3. Or am I wrong?

A:DDR2 video card on a DDR3 mainboard?

I think you're confusing system RAM with video RAM, they're separate things. What's the model of your motherbaord? If it has a PCI-E slot your GTX 260 should work.

A:Can a DDR3 graphics card run in a DDR2 Motherboard?

The DDR2 slots on the motherboard refer to the desktop RAM sticks. GDDR3 on a graphics card doesn't make any difference, it's the connector (PCI Express 2.0 probably) that slots into the mobo.

Hello all,
Think I know the answer to this...but I have the option of running my DELL using:

4 GB 1066 MHz Dual DDR3

or

8 GB 667 MHz Dual DDR2

I'm currently running the first.

My Windows Experience Index, for what it's worth, gives me a 5.9 in the RAM category (and the HD category) but 6.8 - 6.9 in the others (processor, graphics, gaming graphics).

Thanks in advance.

Could someone please explain to me the difference between ddr2 and ddr3 ram. I've heard many different explanations and am still confused. My understanding is that the grooves that slot into the mobo (where the brass contacts are) is simply at different positions on the ram modules and the module will only fit into the mobo if it is supported. Am I correct?

A:DDR2 vs DDR3

Yes the DDR2 modules and the DDR3 modules both have 240 pins. The keyways are in different locations so you can only install DDR3 modules in a DDR3 motherboard. DDR's highest speed is 400MHz. DDR2's highest speed is 800MHz. DDR3 highest speed is 1000MHz

Hi all,

I currently have 3Gb of DDR2 memory, in 2 slots (1x 1GB, 1x 2GB) - however i wanted to increase this to 4GB or even 6GB. Basically i was wondering if the following factors would affect my choice:

1-Is there a limit of how much RAM i can have in my motherboard?
2-Can i cross between DDR3 and DDR2 memory in the two slots, or do i have to keep the same type in each? - (and also, whats the difference between the two)

Thank You

A:Can I use DDR2 and DDR3 RAM together?

If your motherboard currently supports DDR2, then you can only add DDR2. They're not slot compatible.

Which motherboard do you have? Most modern motherboards should support 4 to 8GB of RAM.

The difference will be negligible in games and every day use. You're better off sticking with the 4GB of DDR2 especially if you're only going to be getting 2GB of DDR3.

My problem is that i am not sure whether i should spend the extra money to go for DDR3 as of this moment or should I wait and buy a board that has DDR2 support and go for DDR3 way later like the next upgrade (which I can just upgrade the motherboard if i ahve to).

I am looking at a new system for general word processing, internet, and accessing databases on a network. I am under the impression that DDR3 is better and faster (1066 MHz). However, when pricing systems am I better to go with the 4 GB DDR2 or 2 GB DDR3? Less memory, newer technology, and faster clock speed. The system will only need to last 3 years before another upgrade.

Am I better off going with the 4 GB of the the older RAM or 2 GB of the newer DDR3?

A:4 GB DDR2 800 MHz or 2 GB DDR3 1066 MHz?

Hey Mose,
you will not notice a performance difference between DDR2 and DDR3 for the purposes you stated, so 4 gb of the DDR2 make sense. and if you are going to upgrade in three years then you will undoubtedly be building or buying a new system anyway, so the DDR3 you would purchase now would have no place in an upgrade three years from now anyway.

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question... the differerence between DDR 1,2 and 3.... in terms of pin placement on the motherboard? and am i correct in saying there is no motherboard that supports 2 different types of RAM? also... i wanted to find out the different speeds of RAM eg: 400MHZ,660MHZ 1333MHZ etc.. does that change the compatibility with the motherboard? For example, DDR2 400MHZ is installed can you insert DDR2 800MHZ and it will work? and if so will it work together with the 400 or must you have the same speed with all your RAM?

A:Difference between DDR, DDR2 and DDR3

There is no reason to post two identical threads.

DDR1 is 184 pin, while DDR2 and DDR3 are both 240 pin, so some motherboards support both DDR2 and DDR3.
If the speed is not supported by the motherboard, it will revert to the highest supported speed.
All RAM will run at the speed of the slowest module. In theory, it should work; I wouldn't count on it.

The hard drive and CPU that you use will work regardless of the RAM you have (be it DDR3 or DDR2). You just have to make sure that your CPU is the same socket as your motherboard and that your motherboard supports the type of RAM you go for. Post your specs and we can have a look over them for you

Unless you are running a 64bit version of Windows you won't be able to address the full 4 gig of memory. That aside, don't believe it's really worth investing in another motherboard for socket 775 as it is coming to the end of it's life cycle. Might want to consider upgrading a core component like your graphics card that could be carried over to your next system.

You do understand your memory will downclock to 400/800 if you install more than 2 memory chips.

I plan getting a AMD Phenom CPU.

Trying to find the sweet spot in memory seems to be alittle tricker. I would like ot go with 8MgB of ran either DDR2 800, 1066, or should I wait and see what the new DDR3 has to offer.

I am currently running a DFI Sockett 939 motherboard It doesn't seem to have
any serious problems, but I think that I could make it faster and more stable

I would appreciate any coments or suggestions.

Thank you

A:Ddr2 800 vs ddr 1066 or ddr3 ram for new build

for what u are talking about 2 gig of DDR2 800 would be fine. the DDR3 is way to expensive to use right now, but who knows how long it will take it to get affordable, with the way computer parts are being priced right now, it may be cheap in 2 months, or may go through the roof.

Can you just take a computer that is running DDR2 memory and change the memory to DDR3 or do you have to add other items?

A:Substituting DDR2 Memory for DDR3

Memory controller and DIMM slots have to be DDR3 compatible.

So no, you cannot.

With an AM3 CPU you would need a new motherboard.
With any other socket CPU you would need a new motherboard, and possibly a new CPU.

Currently, DDR2 is better for most systems anyway.

We have a GeForce 8400 video card with 512 MB DDR2 ram. Our PC's ram is DDR type.
I'm wondering if the two types of ram are in conflict or if the card is possibly defective. When we plugged it into the PCIe slot, nothing would appear on the monitor. I shut it down and restarted the PC with the cable hooked to the onboard monitor port while the 8400 card was still connected. We got no picture there either. When I unplugged the 8400 and restarted with the onboard port, everything was fine.

Is this a conflict with the 2 different types of RAM, or are the two types seperate entities?

Thanks,
Michael

Bus TypeCI Express
Current Bus SettingCI Express

Memory Size 128 MB
Memory Type DDR SGRAM / SDRAM

Hey guys,

Basically I'm looking for the differences directly between the DDR3 and the DDR2 RAM sticks. The DDR3 sticks have 9-9-9-24 timings and the DDR2 is 5-5-5-18. Which would be better for gaming? I understand that motherboards only allow a certain type but we've got 2 mobo's picked out for each type of ram.

For more info the two items are here:

A:DDR1-DDR2 Video Card Question

Welcome.

There are no DDR graphics cards made anymore-not since about 2000-2001.
If your AGP slot is x4 or x8 you will be fine with the card if it's within your budget- the only compatibility problem you would run into is if your AGP slot is generation 1 ( i.e AGP 1x or AGP 2x) as these use 3.3volt signalling. Your computer would most likely have to be 1998 vintage for it to have that.
If you are in any doubt then post your system/motherboard maker and model/specification

A:8600GT DDR2 vs 8600GT DDR3 vs Sapphire Hd 3850

DDR3, here's more info, stands for "double data rate."
Ok, here's how I see it, I may be wrong. Ok, DDR is the transfer of data correct, well DDR3 would transfer 3 times the data than the DDR(with the invisible 1 after).

Also about crysis, I'm not to sure about the performance of that card, but it will run HOT on medium... Try the very low or low setting or you better get some cooling ready.

EDIT: I've looked around on the web and found that crysis alone uses like 1 GB of memory on medium setting, that excludes other programs.

If you could find an HD 7750 at a reasonable price (seems to fall within the 6670 range), it would be better still.

I'm afraid that RAM is not supported, I downloaded the Memory Support List from: (and attached)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G41M-Combo (rev. 2.0)

Also, you are better off getting 2 sticks, since:
Your motherboard:

Features Dual channel memory architecture, best to use two sticks to take advantage of the Dual channel, should be identical RAM sticks.
Multi-channel memory architecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That motherboard supports very few 4 gig sticks at all and fact you have to overclock to handle 1333, I would just buy one step lower: 2 * 2 gig 1066 sticks.

Do Audio Video Cables Quality matter much?

for example with Coax i know the gold connectors worked better then silver connectors. So my question is do the cables red yellow and white connectors have high and low quality cables or they all the same. If they have high quality cables what are the names of them and where can i find them.

A:Do Audio Video Cables quality matter much?

Red,White audio RCA are much the same.
It's haveing and useing a SVHS video cable instead of Yellow RCA.
If your TV has it for VCR's etc.that have it out.
But it also depends where you are. This is a N American reply, not GB.

Is this considered value RAM? I bought 2gigs of it for $50, installed it and it is defaulting to DDR-667. Seemed like a steal at the time

I had to manually go into BIOS and up the voltage and increase the clock - It is now at DDR-800

And while were at it, newegg.com advertises this http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820134583
as SLI ready, but I do NOT see where you would hook up the SLI cable. Anybody?
Just a few kinks with the new build

From the newegg comments:

I feel as like I should clear up the confusion about this memory. This ram is programed to default to DDR2-667 at 1.8volts instead of the DDR2-800 at 2volts. This is because most motherboards default to 1.8v, and it would suck if you were trying to build a new computer and you couldn't boot because your memory only ran at 2v. That's why kingston made it so you can run it at 1.8v(although at a slower speed) and change it to 2v later. YOU NEED TO MANUALLY SET THE VOLTAGE TO 2VOLTS AND SPEED TO DDR2 800 @ 4-4-4-12 IN THE BIOS. If you don't do this then you are wasting good memory. If you don't believe me then read the data sheet here: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX6400D2LLK2_2G.pdfClick to expand...

So that makes sense...

Also I think your 2nd link is the same as your first

hi. i just got a new graphics card from Ebay: geforce 7300gt pci with 256 mb. i used to have a geforce fx5500 pci wit 128 mb. the 5500 fit perfectly but the new one does not. does this have to do with the new one being ddr2? i dont know how to check my motherboard, but it is inside a dell computer. So does ddr2 graphics cards require some other kind of motherboard? thanks.

Is that a G41M-Combo Rev 1.3?

If so, it supports both DDR2 and DDR3.

But you cannot mix DDR2 and DDR3. All RAM must be one or the other.

The specific RAM you mentioned is not listed on the qualified RAM list, but that doesn't mean it won't work.

From the Gigabyte web site for the G41M-Combo Rev 3:

DDR3:

2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 1333(O.C.)/1066/800 MHz memory modules

DDR2:

2 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR2 1066(O.C.)/800/667 MHz memory modules

(Note: Mixed mode, populating DDR2 and DDR3 memory modules simulta- neously is not supported. Go to GIGABYTE's website for the latest supported memory speeds and memory modules.)

A:Intel board dr31pr does supports ddr3 graphic card or not

yugandhar welcome to the Seven Forums.

It doesn't matter what type of memory is on the video card as it has no relation at all to what is used on the motherboard.

As far as that card you have selected, it is OK for multimedia uses but terrible for gaming. It is the lowest of the low end and even when it first came out (back in 2009), it was barely any better than the Intel graphics of the time.

A:PowerColor AMD/ATI Radeon HD6670 2 GB DDR3 Graphics Card on P5NESLI?

The card should work just fine. What I'd be more concerned with is your power supply; the 6670 requires a 400W PSU at bare minimum, so you'd be skating on thin ice with that setup, in my opinion.

I have got an issue regarding Graphic Card, I found out at Yahoo answers that the Graphic card's RAM(Memory) has nothing to do with motherboard's RAM but I'm not sure if it was true.
So my question is can I have a DDR2 Graphic Card on my motherboard which supports only DDR1 RAM ?
My Computer Specifications are as follows :

Elitegroup Motherboard p4m800-m7
Processor : Intel P4
Memory : 570 MB DDR SDRAM
Supports AGP 8x n has 3 PCI slots

Motherboard Link :

Can someone suggest me a graphic card for this configuration please..
I'm gonna use graphics for Gaming as well as Designing
I'm looking for Nvidia GeForce, however u can suggest me other alternatives as well .
Also what is the difference between DDR1 n DDR2 Graphic Card and can I use DDR2 Graphic Card on a DDR1 RAM Motherboard ??

A:Is DDR2 Graphic card compatible with DDR1 Motherboard ??

The card and board are independent and don't affect one another. DDR2 is faster memory.

A friend of mine is upgrading his computer. He has an XFX 680i lt sli motherboard. What is better in RAM: 2gb at 800mhz or 4gb at 667mhz? He has XP. Also, should he get ECC ram, buffered ram, or normal ram? He wants to play games such as WoW, DIablo II, and maybe Crysis.

A:Ram question: ddr2 4gb at 667mhz or ddr2 2gb at 800mhz?

Four. You definitely notice a 100% difference in amount over 25% in memory speed - which isn't really noticeable anyway.

That mainboard uses normal DDR2 memory.

Hi Monster212

According to the manufacturer's website specs on your motherboard (MSI Global ? Mainboard - P55M-GD41), your computer should support the faster RAM (when overclocked apparently), and therefore theoretically should acquire faster performance in the 5 - 10% range..

Hope that helps!

Alright guys...so newegg just informed me that I won the following memory in a Facebook contest: Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 with heat spreaders and built in thermal sensor

The wording on the contest is vague, so I'm not sure if I'm getting 4 or 8GB of it. Right now, I have 6 GB of Crucial DDR3 1333 RAM in my comp. I was just wondering how much performance, if any, I would lose by replacing it with the RAM that I won (assuming they only send me 4GB).

A:4 GB of DDR3 1600 or 6GB of DDR3 1333?

It depends what your doing with it. If your not doing anything memory intensive then probably hardly any, 4GB is about the sweet spot with Win 7, and the access speed on that RAM is quicker

Hi all,

I have Intel's D-915 processor, D102GCC2 Mob, 512 MB 533 Mhz DDR2 (UMAX)

I want to put another 1GB of DDR2 RAM in other slot. Can both work together well.

Also if I will go for 1Gb 667Mhz DDR2.. then ? Any problem..

Plz Suggest..

Thanx..............

A:can a 533MHz DDR2 RAM and 800 Mhz DDR2 RAM work together ?

If your motherboard is limited to 533 mhz then a 667mhz memory stick will be automatically underclocked to 533mhz, defeating the object of buying the faster ram. As for if 2 sticks of 512mb and 1gb work together side by side, I've never tried it but suspect it would work. If you get any problems, make sure you put the 1gb stick into the 1st memory slot (the slot your 512Mb stick is in at the moment) and put your old 512mb stick into the second slot. I remember reading that the CPU is happier running a bigger memory stick in the 1st slot. It may be an old wives talke, but its worth trying if you get problems.

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade replace my current 2x2GB DDR2-667 modules with 2x2GB DDR2-1066 modules in a couple days but I'm wondering if I really need that!

I mainly write software and run linux on virtualbox on that particular machine and so far everything works really well but I'm looking forward to game a little on it as well, after a video card upgrade of course!

So, would I get like a reasonable performance increase with those ddr2-1066 modules or should I just forget about them and keep my current setup?
