Any recommendations for secure online backup service?

Q: Any recommendations for secure online backup service?

I use google drive as my primary online backup, can anyone suggest a second good online backup service which is both
SECURE and FREE?

that way if google loses my data it's still on a second server and my harddrive.
thanks

Preferred Solution: Any recommendations for secure online backup service?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

None are secure and free. You can pay, but then your 'security' is still not 100% guarantee'd.

But, be assured, Dropbox/Google/Microsoft aren't going to lose your data ...

Hey guys,

After my PC buggered up and I lost some files, I'm looking at possibly using an online backup service to back up my photos and other personal files.

I want to use an online service as I think it will be easier, and wont require me to buy any extra hardware.

So, what ones do you guys recomend? I want a service where I can tell it to back up specific folders, and possibly do this constantly in the background, so my backups are never out of date.

Any advice always appreciated!

Thanks, Dean

It depends on how much data you are backing up for pricing but from what I have read this backup service has very good encryption though I have not used it personally. It will sync across multiple devices includinging Mac.

Acronis has made its online backup service available as a stand-alone product.
Acronis Online Backup was previously available only to those that purchased the company's True Image 2010 backup software.
The online backup service has also been expanded from 25GB to 250GB of storage space for files, music, video and images. The service is priced at ?3.95 per month, or ?39.95 for the year.

McAfee Online Backup is a new secure online service for consumers that stores and encrypts digital assets.

It is a completely automated service that offers unlimited storage ? consumers do not need to remember when to back up files or decide which files are important to backup and which are not. A secure server online ensures all of their precious files remain safe in the event something happens to their computer.

The best value for Upgrade is Win7 Home Premium Upgrade Family 3-Pack which regularly goes down to $99-$120 on Amazon, buy.com and newegg.com, making 3 licenses cheaper than a single normally-priced Upgrade license.

Hopefully it's available if you're in another country by googling the name and searching around a bit for online or big box retailers.

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and am asking for your help. I do a lot of online banking like paying bills with electronic checks. I am concerned about security of my transactions and keeping my banking information private. Does anyone have any recommendations for highest security? Thanks in advance for help.

I have the following setup for my Vista Laptop: Any recommendations to add to or delete the following?

Verizon Aircard for internet access
AVG free antivirus
Vista firewall
Malwarebytes Anti-malware free on-demand scanner
Sandboxie (not sure what setting to use for sandboxie)
Open DNS
Keyscrambler
Immunet Protect
Mozilla Firefox browser
Crap Cleaner
Panda USB vaccine for autorun protection

A:Recommendations for highest security for online banking

There isn't too much to be concerned of. The websites for banks use the https: protocol and that can not be snooped upon by any third parties. If you use wireless, ensure it is using WPA2 with AES encryption for addition security from people trying to get into you machine through the air. Other than that, you could use Firefox with the No-Script plugin to only allow code to be run on trusted sites. All others you don't give permissions to will be blocked. Use Malwarebytes to scan the machine every so often. Disable unnecssary services. Black Viper has an excellent online list for this.

If you're super paranoid, invest in ZoneAlarm Extreme Security and put it to use.

Only one a/v should be installed or run at any given time. 2 or more cause problems and conflicts.

I know this question gets asked quite regularly, as I have searched the forums for answers...but it seems to be required with each new operating system/software release (so forgive the repetitiveness).

For Windows 7, can anyone recommend a reliable image/backup/recovery software.
In the past, I have used:

Ghost 14: Regularly produces huge backups and fails when there are multiple users on one computer.
Acronis: 2009: Happy with this, but does not support W7. Acronis 2010 has gotten horrible reviews.

So, can anyone recommend a good image/recovery software?

Thanks,

Does anyone have experience with Terabyte Image software, which is described as compatible with Windows XP x64?

A:Backup system recommendations?

When copying files to another filesystem as a backup then you should keep in mind that this way you are not protected from a software failure. Sure, if your HD dies you have your data safe but if a Silly User decides to delete your things or you get a Nasty Virus then you lose all your backups since they were that easily accessible under just another drive letter.

Rethink the yearly CD archiving to something more frequent or make the backup hard drive more difficult to access. Like hide the partitions during everyday use or just put it in another computer and copy files over the network.

Hi
In our office we have four networked pc's, one acts as a server that the other three save data to.
That data is then backed up to an external drive using software that came with the drive.
I would like to use Acronis True image to setup a full backup system including OS.
The problem is I am not 100% sure how to set this up.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated

A:Solved: backup recommendations

You can simply allocate a space on the "server" machine large enough for the images from the other three machines, and backup over the network. The smart money is to let Acronis True Image schedule them overnight, that way there's no impact on your working day. Then, you just do an Acronis True Image backup of the "server" to the external drive, it backs up the other three images as well as the "server". Simple and effective.

Hello Sbolton, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, you could create a custom refresh image that would include you apps and programs. The custom image would be used when you refresh Windows 8 instead of the default.

Refresh Windows 8 - Create and Use Custom Recovery Image

Otherwise, the free 3rd party programs Macrium Reflect and Aomei Backupper are good ones.

Hope this helps,

I am looking for a new backup utility for my desktop machine running W7 64-bit. Upgraded from XP-sp3 last spring with virtually no negative experience -- except that 7 seems not to like Acronis True Image-2013 or -2014. Would appreciate anyone's experiences with backup programs running under W7-64it.

Environment: My input to bu is typically 200-300 Gb. Dell Inspiron 530n w/ 4Gb RAM, Intel Quad Core processor, 1Tb internal HD. Ample storage in connected external HDs. Use my own wireless network for TiVo and old IBM Think Pad. But I do NOT connect with wireless androids, tablets, etc. Might be interested in Cloud storage near future.

Any ideas for file backup and restore program appreciated!
thanks, Dean Jones

Does anyone have a Hard drive recovery service that they can recommend? I have a client that needs data from her hard drive, but all of the bids I have gotten so far have been $800 and up. I have seen a couple advertised on the web for $399 for an invasive recovery and another one that was I think $149. I'm a little weary to try these without a recommendation.

Does anyone have an affordable service they can recommend?

Thanks!

I have a Compact Flash card here which needs some specialized service, namely desoldering the memory chip inside and connecting it to a specialized machine that can read it. I have found a couple of services outside the US; but, I'm afraid some buffoon at Homeland Security might interfere with the shipment and cause its loss or a serious delay if I ship it outside the US.

Anyone know of a competent place in the US?

I do not need software recommendations; this card is past that.

Well this is a tricky subject. Some may say paypal is the best, but i don't think i'd let my dollars sit there even for a few minutes. We all are aware of the hacking cases surrounding it.

Payment systems that are allowed to process credit card information adhere to the same high security standards (PCI DSS ? the payment card industry data security standard), and use different technologies like payment gateways and payment processors to keep payment data safe from hackers.

A:the most secure payment system online?

I don't really see a question but I will say I do know little. I have a lot of experience with Banks. Debt, Credit Cards, and also third party creditors.

In the UK being from England walcott you will probability know you can reverse a DD (Direct Debit) and thus have the Funds refunded before the end of Business that working Day. The Banks are utter S*** and quite frankly I despise them and their Fat Cat Wallets. Their greed and their utter Crap they come out with on the end of the phone when you have an inquiry to make is half the time they fob you off.

Like I say I don't really see a question but I have rang the bank many times on many occasions and been told the same thing when I know they can help but in some cases for example I can't remember the name of the Department and they fob you off. I have had the Bank In particular put the Phone down many times on myself for kicking rite off.

Secure Payments tho on the other hand, if you authorize a Payment from your Account, then those funds being ear marked for leave will be in the hands of the Recipient to give you a refund if they deem it fit. I hate it quite frankly. I'm Paranoid by nature with various health conditions, and no one will go out their way to help anyone in this day in age. If you have Money and you Authorize a Payment, quite frankly its gone. You have to be so careful with who you give your Card Details out to. I still get Phone Calls this day and Texts asking me from two years ago to take out Pay Day Loans. Cash Door Set Loans. I simply put the Phone down on them, If its Private I don't answer. When I applied for one Payday Loan a few of years ago I had over 60 Texts in two days.

Try to use safe mode with Networking option.
Safe Mode Using the F8 Method for XP
Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode With Networking using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

Run the scan from there

This question pertains to F-Secure Online Scanner, IE (v6.0), & Admin. Rights.

I use Firefox, but dusted off Internet Explorer 6.0 in order to use F-Secure Online Scanner (http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/). However, I ran into the problem listed below & need a solution.

After d/l the program, at the license agreement, this notice pops-up: "Insufficient rights to use ActiveX controls. Please check your user rights & IE security setting.? Site might require ActiveX controls ?OLS 3.3?

So, I right click on the IE icon, click ?run as?? and get two choices:

Run as current user xxxx/rick, or

following user with a drop down choice showing my name.

I see no admin. rights.

Solution?

Thanks!

~ Diff ~

A:F-secure Online Scanner & Ie Admin. Rights

Hello Diff and welcome to BC

You wouldn't see the user rights in that drop down menu.

From what you've posted, I assume you have two user accounts on the machine. Is that right?

When you created these accounts, did you set them up as limited accounts or as accounts with administrative rights?

The other thing is the settings in IE. Open the browser and click on Internet Options. Click on the security screen and then click on Internet Zone. Scroll down to see the settings under Active X. Basically, anything unsigned or considered unsafe should be blocked. I personally set the rest to prompt.

Helsinki, Finland ? April 4, 2013: F-Secure's free Online Scanner tool has been completely rebuilt to be faster, lighter and more powerful than before, and now even cleans up advanced rootkits, the most difficult-to-remove malware. The tool, downsized to a slim 5MB, is easy to use with just a couple of clicks. It cleans without actually installing itself to the PC ? so consumers can run it and then forget about it.Click to expand...

A:Free F-Secure Online Scanner Gets to the Root of it

I have tried this on-demand scanners a few times, and F-Secure database is very good, so it will find malware.
I've notice that this new version, it did not ask me to restart my computer before starting the scan, and also the scan times have been reduced.
Overall this product looks very good, however I would have liked to see a standard on-demand scanner rather than an online scanner.

Hello all I am new but have a question. Has anyone ever used my secure backup as a backup solution? I have just taken over administration duties at a small firm with 20 employees that is growing rapidly. They have been using My secure backup as a cloud storage solution. I am transitioning them away from this service and cannot find any info on the company for support in transitioning the storage from then to a local storage server. I cannot find anything on the Web about the developer. It seems to be an oem product but I cannot find where the backups or the data that is stored with them is physically stored. The company pays a third party contractor directly for this service. He is angry that he did not get the bid on this project and won't send any info. Has anyone ever used this product before? Any suggestions on contacting the developer of this software?

A:My Secure Backup

They do have a help community.  You should search on the net.  I am adding the link to here in case this site consider doesn't allow me to.  but it is called help mysecurebackup net.  My company used that before but we no longer use it because we find better it complicated to use and not enough help.  We then move to cloudbacko home.  It is free and the UI is simple to use.  Another cool thing is it allows to backup files, photos, outlook to free cloud storage.  So, we just keep using it.  That's all we need and it fits.

Hi there

Wireless backup will be a DOG unless your backup volume is SMALL and users don't backup at the same time.

You might consider using STORAGE SPACES on your target machine -- that way you can aggregate several SMALL volumes into a single large data space with some sort of protection too.

Wifi backup though - forget it !!! 20 GB will take forever at a typical wifi speed - remember also that UPLOAD which is effectively what your users are doing is often 10 times slower than download. Is YOUR system also up to it.

Cheers

I ran the f-secure online scanner and it reported three tracking cookies: TrackingCookie.Mookie, TrackingCookie.Webtrends andTrackingCookie.Instadia. It failed to remove them reporting the following message:"F-Secure Online Scanner 4.2 encountered an error. The program is running with insufficient user rights to scan all targets for malware and spyware. Restart F-Secure Online Scanner 4.2. If this error repeats, contact the support (error id: 65)."I then deleted all cookies via Firefox and searched the system for these files and could not find them but when I re-ran the scan the same files were reported and again failed to be deleted due to user permissions.1) Is f-secure to be trusted?2) How do I run the online scanner with permission to delete?3) Where are the cookies on my system (how do I find them)?4) Will I be able to delete them manually if I can find them? Thanks in advance for any help.

So here's my first post. Been working on a computer, was mega infected with all sorts of lovelies. Ran AVG, AVG Antispyware, Adaware 2007, Avira Antivir, and Kaspersky internet security on it. Seems clean now, however, there are 2 programs in add/remove that will not uninstall. Pretty sure they are malware or something of the sort, as a lot of the infected compy's I work on have these items in add/remove. The name of the programs are "Internet Service" and "Secure Browsing". When you hit change/remove, it pops up a box saying "You should reboot prior to uninstalling this software. Reboot now?" with an OK or cancel button. Hitting cancel takes you back to add/remove, OK reboots. Even after reboot, hitting change/remove pops up the same box. Tried Google, but those two phrases are common enough that I can't find anything. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can someone tell me the most efficient and secure way to backup a secured database?

I have a secured database (usergroups, names, etc.) and I want to be able to back-up the db's info in the event that the database crashes. Currently, I'm exporting the necessary tables to an outside database (which is in a different directory). However, I don't think this is the best way to go about backing-up the db because the db that the information is going to IS NOT secured. As a result, someone can obtain the db's info from there.

Please help!

I presume that the database is not located on a server that gets backed up nightly, right? Can you just copy the database to another location? It should bring the security with it.

I have a HP ENVY m7-010dx that died last night.  Upon power up nothing happens except a continuous slow blinking light on the cap locks key.  I went through their online troubleshooting help section and it looks like it is a hardware issue and will be going in for warranty service.  The big problem I have is that the hard drive has lots of sensitive personal information on it that I believe a good tech could copy and fairly easily decipher.

So what can I do?  I have never removed an internal hard drive and accessed it as an external drive.  I really need to wipe all personal info before returning for warranty service.

Any ideas?

Thanks

A:How to Secure Hard Drive Before Warranty Service

DVDs?  USB flash drive?

How much personal info are you talking about?

Since most of us don't have that much (IMO) personal info on a system...either of the above should do.  Simply copy the data to new media and then delete it from your hard drive before sending.

I have never figured out which forum to post.  My apologies.

I used Malwarebytes Secure Backup with disastrous results. I have 63,000, (.dst, .pes, .sew, etc.,) embroidery files. When I went to restore, there were 9,963 errors. "Padding is invalid and cannot be removed." Most were embroidery files but many were .jpg files.  Of the 53,000 recovered, almost all are embroidery files.

The backups all looked fine.  I have no idea how to get back my files.  MSB did/does not work for me.
Malwarebytes support says it is my problem with my software. How does that compute to having .jpg files not downloading?
If anyone can help,I would appreciate it. I lost a lot of files, where can I get a reliable backup?

Again, I apologies for asking in the wrong forum.

Doubt it, and how long have you got anyway ? A typical PC has often got a minimum of 20Gb of data, whilst a typical 5Mbit download broadband only has 300Kbit upload, and to transfer 20Gb would take approximately 148 hours.

Better buy a cheap USB hard drive

Does anyone here use the Carbonite online backup service? I know someone who does, but I'm still a bit skeptical of trusting my "priceless" photos and stuff to some company's server.

I've been backing up on separate hard drives. But they're not big enough now, so I'm going to have to buy a bigger one. Is it better to go with an online service, and upload your files to their server, than mirror a partition to your local backup hard drive? What is the best online backup service out there?

My friend who uses Carbonite loves it (though he's never had to restore a wiped-out system with it). They charge $49.95 per year for unlimited space. Their software monitors your system to detect changed/added files and then uploads those, adding to the backup, but I wonder if that extra software being always active is going to slow down my system.

I am a home user, not a business, but I want to be able to backup my entire drives...my whole system basically, a la Ghost or the others...so that in case of disaster (I've had them) I can just restore my whole system. Is this unreasonable/unrealistic? What software would you recommend? What kind of pricing am I looking at?

I've checked out Mozy, Crytonite, a few others...not sure they are what I want/need....

I'm a good little geek and make regular backups and image files to a NAS, external HDD, and DVD-R. I also supplement them with online backup.

Well, I've been a freeloader on the IDrive online backup service for about six months. They offer 2GB free (or 12GB free if you let them raid your address book), and I've successfully restored countless files from them. In one case, they really saved my bacon.

Anyway, to get to the point: I feel like I should start supporting them by signing up for their paid services. Before I do that, however, I'd like to know if anybody here has any good or bad experiences with IDrive or any of the other online backup services?

That is an option. Another option is to have your computer backup to your computer at home. You can use a Dynamic DNS service to connect to whatever computer you wish. As a mater of fact you could have it backup to a external USB drive with the right type of router. http://no-ip.com is a free service. This way you have total control.Just one more dea to think about. You will need atleast DSL or cable on each end.
