Preferred Solution: disk letter\labels changed and lost data problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The removable disks will always find the most convinient drive letter available. As for the lost data it could be either accidental deletion or formating...

Hi, I have a really strange problem. I've been using my blank dvd's for removable storage devices and everything's been working well but I had to reboot because of some screen refresh problem or something and after I came back online all the data in that disk seems to be gone and it says, 0 for disk capacity and 0 for bytes used. I really don't know how that happened but I have some very old pictures and things I put on there that must be retrieved somehow. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have a big problem with a disk letter on my external hdd .Recently I've added a new internal hard disk and all my partition letters changed. No problem until i noticed that i really need the partition F for my external drive. No problem , so i go : right click on my computer -> Manage -> disk management and change letter and so .. until i noticed that the letter F is already taken by one Cd Drive. Here is the problem.I don't know how to change the letter for the CD Drive.I must say that in disk management the CD driver doesn't show (probably because i don't have a DVD or CD drive). How can i change the letter for the CD drive ? AGAIN : IN THE DISK MANAGEMENT IS NO WAY TO CHANGE IT.

Hello, I have recently carried out a complete reinstall of XP after detecting virus of every kind.

Everthing went ok, but my main drive's letter is now 'I' instead of 'C' , which is now assigned to another drive, if i click on C it states no disk inserted, please insert disk.

How can i re assign 'C' as my main drive, so that my pc recognises it, without difficulty ?

Thanks.

A:Drive letter changed

The reason the drive letter changed is because you have multiple drives on you PC and left them connected during your fresh install. Multiple drives can be more then on internal hard drive, optical drives, media readers, external USB devices. These were still connected and powered on when you did your fresh install. It can be fixed by carefully following these instructions.

Last night I hooked up one of my back up drives via USB. The pc recognized it but it showed a drive letter other than the one I wanted.
Not thinking it through I changed the drive letter. It took awhile to do since I had never done it before.
Now when I plug the drive in, the PnP sees it and I get the tray icon so that I can safely disconnect.
Device manager sees it too.
However, when I hover the mouse icon over 'Computer' in the Start menu, the drive does not show up.
Nor is it visible if I right click on 'Computer' and then click on 'Open'. And Shadow Protect Desktop doesn't see it either, making it impossible for me to make an image for back up.
Since I can't see it when I click 'Open' I can't try to change it back again.
Please tell me how to fix this.
Thanks.

all i want to do is create a drop down list so that a set category needs to be selected for each cell in a column. the column details the reason for a return so; damaged, wrong item, faulty, just dont want it etc

am i confusing excel with SPSS and you can not do what i want to within this program?

I m really hoping someone can help with this because it s driving my team crazy I have a bar chart in excel the X axis ranges from to - but I have a few bars that fall outside of this range Ex - I format the data labels by putting them on the inside base of the bars and dragging them to the outside end This is so the bars outside of the data range can retain their data labels This has always worked for me the problem is it doesn t work for anyone else on my team When they try to move the data labels on the bars that don t fall in range of the x axis the labels disappear It doesn t make sense to increase the range of the X-axis because these bars are just one-offs and it would reduce the visual impact of the graph We also don t want to manually create a label I d like to figure out how to get this to work for others and not just me Thanks nbsp

I have a Dell XPS 8700 running Windows 7 professional. I just noticed today that my first DVD drive letter went from D to J. One of my external hard drives used to use the letter J. Now it is D. The DVD drive appears to work OK, but it may be a problem when I do backups using my external hard drives with Acronis. I am not sure when this drive letter change took place. I tried doing a checkpoint restart from a restore point taken 3 days ago. Same problem. Is there some way to get the drive letters back to they way they were? Hello All,

Thanks for your time.

I've had to reinstall Win XP Pro on my computer. Now here's the twist, before the reinstall I had the following drives;

C (Computer Drive)
F (My Sister's Drive)
D (Mp3 & Wav)
E (Digital Pics)

I proceded to reinstall Win XP Pro only to discover that my original C drive was now labeled F, and the original F drive is now labeled C.

I installed it anyway thinking I could just change the drive letters afterwards. So I thought, I cannot change either one as drive F's status (Boot Volume) and drive C's status (System Volume), and Windows will not allow any drive letter changes to System and Boot volume drives.

I want to do a reinstall with the current F drive back to C. I'll worry about renaming my sister's drive later.

Thanks again for your time.

A:Computer changed HD letter and will not Boot

Likely your C: was renamed to D: because you booted from a DVD. The boot drive is, or should be, C:.
Is that an ACER factory recover disk?

Oops! I forgot to say Welcome to Seven Forums!
EDIT: The C: is the boot partition Windows creates but it shouldn't have any drive lteer, but that may be from booting from the recover disk. Try booting to safe mode, repeatedly tapping F8 during reboot and choose Safe Mode with networking. Run a Norton full scan from there.
Antoher thing to try is the Startup Repair accessed in the same way as above. It may need 3 attempts to repair the boot partition.

After the store where I bought my pc from repaired my pc (seems like it was a drivers issue) it came back with disk F (the ssd) renamed to C, so now all my shortcuts on the favourites say this:
It's pretty annoying, I cant call them on a Saturday about the issue. I know they tried booting up with an external disk and that's why it's renamed, but I can't rename it back to F, I've tried it and it gives me an error because the disk is in use I think, I've also tried using MiniTool Partition Wizard Free and the optiong to change disk letter disappears when I click on the one I need changed..
Is there any way I can fix this issue?
Thank you in advance

Hello,

I have a wierd problem that i don't understand:

Becouse of an unfortunatly accident (whici i don't yet understand), my drive letters change, my C: became D, and so on, and logically, the windows couldn't start becouse it didn't know where windwos was. What was strange, using acronis backup, to restore my windows, it says that C: is actually assignt to System reserved space. I have 2 hard disks, 500 gb each, the first time it crashed, it also made an other hard drive master and the one that should have been master, a slave. I checked in bios, the one that is master is put as a boot devide, first is dvd rom, second the hard disk, the one that is supoosed to be there.
Also, shouldn't the disk with windows on me disk 0?

Those anyone have an idea why is this happening? Never had this problem before and it already happened 2 times in a week, its getting annoying.

A:Drive letter changed at startup

Hello and welcome Jack I think you will find that disk 1 is still the OS drive mate if you go to that screen again and right click on that C: partition > open it will show you what is in there ie Windows program files etc see pic of mine. Do the same thing on the other partitions to see what is in them.

I have just upgraded to Windows 10 Home using the Tutorials and a flash drive boot. All seems to have gone well and Windows installed in my 120Gig SSD Drive C.

However, I see my 1T HDD Drive E (which I disconnected before installing Windows and then reconnected after the installation) is now called Drive D. Why is this, and how do I call it Drive E as before. I'm not too technical but I assume now calling it Drive D may conflict with anything looking for data under the old Drive E.

Windows just chooses the next free letter.
Go to Disk Management(right click the Windows icon and choose it from the menu).

Right click the drive(or partition) and choose "Change Drive letter and paths",
Click change in the box that pops up,
and see if your prefered letter is free in the drop down menu.

If it isn't free, change the letter on the drive it's assigned to first,
then go back and make you changes.

A:[SOLVED] Drive letter changed?

It doesn't matter. That just means something else is taking up the D letter.

If you want to change drive letters:

Go to Start menu>Run

Type in "compmgmt.msc" without quotes.

Under Storage>Disk Management

Right Click on the color strip of the drive and click 'Change Drive Letter and Paths...'

Be sure nothing is taking up the D slot or else D would not be an option.

If you import such a lotus-file into excel, these data labels still exist and show correct data, but I cannot find where is specified which data should be shown.

A:How can I add data labels to a graph in Excel XP?

To add data labels to a data series, click the data series.
To add a data label to a single data point, click the data series that contains the data marker you want to label, and then click the data marker for the data point you want to label.

On the Format menu, click Selected Data Series or Data Point.
On the Data Labels tab, select the options you want.

You can quickly label all data points. Click the chart, click Chart Options on the Chart menu, and then select the options you want on the Data Labels tab

I installed XP on drive Z but XP thinks it's on drive D. Drive D is what my vista recovery stuff is on (I dual boot)

A:Is it normal for XP to change the drive letter, but it's not actually changed...

A boot drive (drive with bootable operating system) will normally be assigned the letter C: in Windows, even if it is a multiboot system.

Of course, this can be changed by drives attached on an install using a MS OEM version of XP or various other things which were not necessarily done in the proper sequence. I've seen this on my system but I cannot recall the exact circumstances.

As for the Z: letter change...I don't believe that XP will assign such to a bootable drive, unless there are 25 other drive letters assigned permanently ahead of it...just speculation, never tried it.

If you installed XP after installing Vista...and with the Vista drive connected during the XP install...then that might account for the D: letter assignment.

Ok, so I have my system and I have 2 operating systems on it. 1 is C:\ and the other is I:\ .Today i turned on my computer and a windows boot manager error thing came up so i put in windows 7 disk and it repaired the system. i go into I:\ (which is windows 7) and came up with disk check. Then it continued normally until it said 'Preparing your desktop'. Then it came with blank blue-ish screen and in the bottom right conner said "This copy of windows is not genuine" which it is. Signed me in to a temp account couldn't access any files. Turns out it was trying to access D:\ instead of I:\ no programs worked. I went onto the other operating system checked it and it said it was I:\ so somehow Windows changed it to thinking it was D:\ not I:\
Any help is appreciated.

you will have to edit the registry offline (this happened to me not to long ago...)

Also what is the "other OS"? If it is Windows then follow the bellow:

OK, I probably know the anwer to this one, but thought I'd ask the experts anyway. I installed a new hard drive recently, when my old one crashed. After installing the drive, I installed windows XP pro, everything worked fine, except that my boot drive was no longer designated ast "C", but had become "F". This has caused problems with a number of programs. Is there anyway, short of starting from scratch, to changed the boot drive letter assigned back to "C"?

A:Boot Drive Letter Changed when XP Installed

Sorry barbshop, you have to reinstall XP. When you do, disconnect any additional hard drives, thumb drives or zip drives you may have connected, that's probably why XP made the primary drive F. Good Luck!

Can you rewrite that?

Will what be a problem?

What are you trying to back up? Your Windows installation only? Or?

If you are trying to back up only your Windows installation, you need to make an image of the partition on which Windows is installed---regardless of the drive letter you may see.

You also would need to back up your "System Reserved" partition if you have one.

I have both an SSD and an HDD. I used Macrium to restore the image on the SSD. After completion, I'm unable to boot or to use safe mode. The message is no boot device found - hit any key to reboot. I used a boot program to show my pc directories and the SSD is now drive letter E and the HDD containing only music and pictures is drive letter C. How can this be corrected?

Did this image you made consist of SSD partitions? Or the HDD partitions? I'm guessing SSD.

Before you made this image of your SSD---how many partitions did it have? C only? C and something else?

Which of those partitions did you include in this image that you later restored?

Offhand, it appears you did NOT make a Macrium image file of the necessary partitions.

Consequently, the SSD after the restore does not match the SSD as of the time and day you made the image.

If you had made an image of the necessary partitions and restored that image, I would not expect you to get the "no boot device found" error.

That's a tentative explanation, pending whatever further details you can provide.

Hi, I did stupid thing. I changed revovery partition to R:\ then I realized that recovery does not work anymore. I changed it back to original letter D:\ but still it does not work. Is there any possibility how to make it work again? One idea: When I look in Disk Managment status of Recovery disc is Healthy but missing Boot indication. Maybe when I make D:\ disc bootable again it could work, but I do not know how. Thank you everybody in advanceMichal Bokr

If you can open the Command Prompt in the Recovery Environment using a W7 install disc, you could try using Diskpart to reassign the drive letters.

I wouldn't call the procedure easy, but there should be plenty of tutorials on the Internet.

A few days ago I ran into a peculiar and rather perturbing glitch on my Dell XPS system running Windows My internal storage configuration is set up as follows Primary Drive C SSD Storage Space I D and Storage Space II E These are a pair of drives that share a TB virtual storage pool with two-way mirroring running on x TB HDDs I have split the storage space into two so that I can distinguish between dynamic files those that require regular backup and static files those that are required on the system but could be reloaded from outside resources if necessary and handle them appropriately In addition to the above I have a pair of external HDDs L amp M connected via USB ports and an integrated DVD - RW drive H This configuration has run successfully for Drive 8.1 by Window assignments changed letter several months now A day or so before the incident that I describe below I attached a further device via a USB port a REV drive that the OS handles as a CD drive This drive was being used to load a set of files transferred from my previous system I cannot swear Drive letter assignments changed by Window 8.1 to the drive letter that was assigned to the device - I just checked that the expected folder was available and that the transfer of the required files ran as expected However the REV drive is currently back on line and has been given the drive letter F so I believe that must have been the letter originally assigned At that point I left the REV drive and relevant disk online loaded with the intention of doing a folder-by-folder check of the transfer Hoping that the the preceding information is sufficient without including the irrelevant I now come to the incident that is causing me concern At some time the drive letters associated with the internal HDDs were changed Storage Space I becoming drive E and Storage Space II becoming drive F At the same time the REV drive which I presume had been drive F was assigned the letter D I believe that I can pin the time down to a twenty-four hour period between two scheduled backups Part of my daily backup routine is to do an incremental backup of drive D using StorageCraft's ShadowProtect The log for AM on September shows the source of the backup data to be Storage Space I D NTFS and that for the backup twenty-four hours later is shown as Storage Space I E Strangely enough the change of assigned letter didn't seem to faze ShadowProtect it simply added an incremental image file to the chain previously used for drive D which seems to have successfully incorporated the data from what was at that point drive E I assume that ShadowProtect must keep track of the source at a more fundamental level than the data path I believe that something of the same sort must be true of the browser and mail systems that I use because it took another hours or so before the fact that an application was failing because it could not find an expected file drew attention to the problem with the file paths At that time I removed the REV drive showing as D and used the Disk Management facility to change the drive letters of Storage Space i and Storage Space II back to their original settings This appeared to fix any immediate problems although I did note that drive E was now Disk on the Disk Management list and drive D was Disk the reverse of the original setup I thought at first the drive letter re-assignment might have occurred at the same time that I did a restart in safe mode to replace a driver as requested by by a software supplier trying to sort out another bug I have since abandoned this idea as it turned out the timing was wrong but before I had come to this conclusion I had duplicated the safe mode restart to see if I could recreate the problem This did not affect the file path drive letters but I notice that Disks and have gone back to being drives D and E respectively At the moment everything seems to running smoothly again but I am concerned that the problem might show up again unexpectedly possibly causing mo... A:Problems with driver letter after partitions changed

First of all , just get a Startup Repair , and dont use parted magic or gparted in this time. As windows 7 is installed in your machine, and just bootloader is missing, it will add it.

Your problem was that your windows 7 bootloader was installed in your xp partition, and it is deleted alongwith xp.

If it is still not working, open command prompt and type "DISKPART' and enter.
At diskpart prompt, type "list disk" and enter.
As you have only one disk, it will show Disk 0. Now tyoe "list partition" and enter.
Type "select partition 1" (if it matches with your windows 7 partition), there will be a messege that partition 1is now selected.
Type "active" and enter to set it active.

A:Changed Drive letter of C to G NTDLR Error Now

It may be fixed by connecting to another computer, then using the same program to revert what he did, and then reconnecting to the original PC. I am not sure if this would work, if not, then you'd just have to backup any data on the drive with the another computer, format, reinstall Windows, restore whatever was on the drive and move along.

Hello,
Just thought I'd ask if this is possible, can I set a default behaviour on Excel charts so that only data points with a value of greater than zero have data labels?

I know I can set or remove a single data label, but the "missing" data label doesn't move with the zero value when I update the chart.
For example, if I have the following data:
January = 5
February = 6
March = 0
April = 8
and I show data labels for all data points except March.

Then if I update the source data for the graph, so it shows the values for Feb through May:
February = 6
March = 0
April = 8
May = 7
Now when I look at the graph, the data labels are visible for all data points except April!

It is the zero I want to hide, not the 3rd data point along...

Right clicking the desktop and making sure "Lock Web Items on Desktop" was not clicked
Going to Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance, Setting and click on "Use drop shadows ~~ etc."

Is there any other way to get these back to transparent. Is there a registry tweak(s)

Uncheck everything on that tab and OK.

Edit: I can't remember, but you may have to reboot.

Welcome Tuckersmom !
When I connect my camera to either of our computers, the camera itself indicates on the viewer how to handle the pictures....
To replace the icons on the desk top, right click any empty place and select refresh, I think this should restore them for you.
My daughter uses Norton 360 and we have found that it disables the system restore. She does regular backups with Norton 360. If you have done that, you should be able to restore from one of those backups.
GOOD LUCK

If I have understood correctly, you want to change the drive letter from D to E yes? Here is how you change it:
Open Computer Management. (right click My Computer)
In the console tree, click Disk Management.
Right-click the drive, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths, click Change, type the drive letter you want to use, and then click OK.

I'm not sure what the trigger was but my C drive where my os is installed apparently took the drive letter of an external drive that I use for backup. It is now the X drive and I cannot boot. I do get the repair screen but cannot repair as there is no operating system to choose. Booting from windows disk makes no difference here.

My bios (uefi) can see the disk, I can also see it from the command prompt, Im at a loss what to do, any help is appreciated.

I believe this happened after an automatic windows update.

Hi -

Per Bounceback FAQ --> http://www.cmsproducts.com/products/...k/default.html -

Quote:

BounceBack Ultimate hard drive backup software enables you to back up your entire PC or laptop hard drive, including the Operating System, data files, applications, pictures, video, financial documents and settings. Using our patent pending Instant PC Recovery mode, you can start your PC or laptop directly from an external USB backup hard drive in the event of an operating system malfunction or even a failed hard drive.

That statement simply is not true. The entire Vista OS cannot be copied as they claim.

In #9, you mention no Vista DVD because Vista was pre-installed on the system. Since Vista came with the system, there should be a recovery partition, which is the same as having the recovery DVDs.

Boot into recovery using the recovery partition - most systems = press F10 during boot-up. Then try the option for Windows System Restore -

Hi all,

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I did a sytem restore and waited for it to finish. When it did all I got was a black screen.
I use acronis home image and disk director for backup purposes and when I launched it from a CD that was when I realised my C drive letter had been changed to F and my 'System Reserved' now has a drive letter of E

I have taken out the drive and hooked it up to a laptop, the drive itself is fine and all the information is there, just that it now has different drive letters.

Is there any way to fix this?
Can I use the laptop to reassign the drive letter back to C (Bearing in mind the laptop has a C drive) and get the 'System Reserved' back to where it belongs (With or without a drive letter)?

Thanks for any help

A:System restore changed my C drive letter so can't boot

What you did is not clear. Did you do a system restore with the built in restore option or you restored an Image that was made with Acronis? Please clarify.

I can't boot up my windows because the drive letter (drive C - where windows was installed) has changed to X drive..
Symptom - brief blue screen.
Is there any way I can change the drive letter back?

I turned the computer on today and one of the external hard drives has changed from 'K' to 'L'. Two other external hard drives have not been affected. For some reason the 'K' drive has been allocated to the CD Drive (which was previously 'F').

So how can I get 'K' back to the external hard drive using the same path as before. It doesn't matter what the CD drive is called but getting it back to 'F' would be nice.

Thank you.

Hey guys,
I just installed windows xp x64
I have 2 drives, 1 SSD and 1 hard drive
the hard drive is partitioned into 4 drives
I wanted to change the drive letters to 2 of the partitions, which right now, arent formatted yet
So I did, but now booting up windows upon restart takes longer than usual,
eg. It stays on the welcome screen for 20 seconds, then goes to the desktop background, and then takes 15 seconds to load the rest of the screen

A:Changed drive letter, now Windows Boot is slow

If you did not format....then you don't have a partition.

Windows relies on formatting to be able to see/recognize any subdivision/structure of a partition.

I have setup excel pie charts whereby I only want the data label option percentage to be shown If I save the workbook with these settings close and then re-open the settings are retained When I then upload this workbook to my SharePoint site and select open open snapshot in excel the workbook opens but all other data label options are set Excel not Data options saving Labels 2010 such as series name category name value as well as percentage percentage option is all I want and the only one i set If I choose the option open the workbook in excel the data label options are set correctly I need to be able to open the workbook as a snapshot with the correct data label options because the Excel 2010 Data Labels options not saving other option to simply open in excel through SharePoint strips out all the Excel 2010 Data Labels options not saving formulas which reference particular data The odd thing with this is that if I open the snapshot in Excel the correct data label options are retained series name category name value are unticked which is how I set it I tried re-building the excel workbook again in excel but I m having the same issue I tried with a simple pie chart and the same happens We are using Excel X SP and SharePoint enterprise server Any help would be appreciated nbsp

I'm pretty sure my problem is a small one and easy to solve.

I've placed a pie chart in a powerpoint doc. and the data labels that house the series headers aren't big enough, so the text is wrapping and I don't want it to. You'd think you could grab the surrounding box markers and drag the corner, but when i try it the whole thing moves.
I've looked round the internet with no success.

can you suggest a way of increasing the data series text box?
fingers crossed,
Nellie.

A:[SOLVED] W7 system partition drive letter changed won't boot

Hi, boot to the RE (repair your computer) at the x:\sources prompt type:-

bcdedit (press enter) this will reveal the boot manager and the boot loader that your OS uses to boot. Note down the entries, next type:-

bcdedit | find "osdevice" (press enter) this tells us what drive letter the RE has assigned the OS, not always C:

It will be this drive letter that you will need to use to repair the boot .

A:Changed Win8 drive letter after partition change in EaseUS

Phew, found a solution myself:

With some effort I was able to boot into safe mode, tricked an instance of the task manager, from the task manager I could start regedit.

In regedit I assigned the appropriate drive letter under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices

This worked for me, but I recommend this ONLY as a last resort kind of thing.

I don't have details on what was done to change the drive letter, because I wasn't the one that did this. But here's an overview of the results:

The removable drive shows up in explorer with its new drive letter, however when you click on it, Windows (using Vista and 7) says that it must be formatted before use- checking the drive properties shows a wrong hard drive size.

I'm thinking there are 2 ways of resolving the situation:

1. getting an outside program that will access the drive and allow me to copy the files to a different drive (then formatting the removable drive) or
2.somehow getting Windows to recognize the files on the removable drive.

If anyone knows what software I can use to access and copy the files on the drive or how to get Windows to recognize the drive that it used to recognize normally, I'd appreciate it.

Hey guys quick question

1. I have a 1TB Drive Partitoned in half C:5OOGB and F:500GB Now I recently Purchased another 1TB Drive and its already setup.

2. Id like to Change the Drive letter F: wich would be the Second Partition of The Drive C: and assign this Letter to the New Drive.

3.The main reason for this is because Im currently Running FS In the F: Partition of the Same Drive but instead would like to run it in the new drive.

All Registry entries made by FS is pointing to the F Drive therefore Re-assigning the letter to the new drive its a must for me thanks.

I believe just changing the Partition Letter F: wouldn't interfere with the OS considering the OS is on the C: Partition although it is the same drive but wanted to make sure before continuing

A:[SOLVED] recovery disk can not find disk letter

It is showing that your HDD is RAW, meaning there is no partition or file system. You can either boot the computer with a Windows CD/DVD and Create a new partition, Format the Partition NTFS, do not do a Quick Format, (this takes longer but will test the integrity of the drive). and then install Windows. You can also prepare the drive with GParted Live CD. then run your Restore DVD.

I've got two different spreadsheets in Microsoft Office Excel 2007 that rely quite heavily on graphs. Now, the issue I'm having isn't stopping the practical functions of the spreadsheet, but it is aesthetically frustrating.

Each time I access either spreadsheet, some of my graphs data labels reset their formatting and styles. Approximately 75% of the data labels remain as they were originally formatted, but approximately 25% of them reformat themselves each time. I correct it by formatting them the way I'd prefer, and I re-save, but the next time I open the spreadsheet they've gone back to their default state.

Now, this is only the formatting, not the content of the data label, but it is still frustrating.

Can anyone please give some advise as to how I can fix this?

A:Burn labels on my finished dvd disk

When you say finished what do you mean? That you burned data on it and now you want to "light scribe" the back? If so you can't do that with a normal DVD, it has to be a LightScribe DVD with the special layer on the back in which an image can be burned with a laser.

Hi. I've been using the ultimate boot cd(ubcd) to do partitioning. I'm using ranish to do the partitioning. But there doesn't seem to be an option to let you assign labels to the volumes. How should I do this? Are there other utilities on the disk that will let me do this?

thanks.

Under XP you can do Start >run > cmd > enter> at the prompt enter> label >enter then label the drive that way.

I did it and got this in a DOS box

C:\>dir
Volume in drive C is ididmyc600
Volume Serial Number is 5CD6-3AB2

Directory of C:\

As doing it from the disk pass, I used this a few times but never investigated it fully.

A:Serious problem: Flash Drive (USB) lost data but show in scanning

could try: open the anti spyware you used -goto something like virus vault-see if in there -will be an option to recover (avg, avast all have this so your data may be there but not where it was before)

I am able to download Exchange 2007 through the MSDN Academic Alliance for testing purposes. I am allowed to burn it to DVD for future use.

But unlike most applications that are provided as .iso image files, the entire download is offered as individual files and folders. I can create an .iso. But I also like to keep true by using the proper disk image label. For example Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise is E3EVOLENG.

Does anyone know the proper disk labels (names) for the various flavors of Exchange 2007? Searches turn up nothing.

Thanks!

A:Serious problem with my Packard Bell - data lost after running recovery tool ?

Hey there, Welcome to Tech Guy forums.

Personally I think the best way forward with this problem is to remove the hard drive out of your computer. If it is IDE (PATA) then you will have to switch the jumpers to make it a slave drive and install it into another working computer and attempt to recover your data off the drive. If it is a SATA drive then you will not have to set the jumpers and should be able to install the drive straight into another computer and be able to access it.

The drive will show up as the 2 partitions that you have mentioned and hopefully your data will be safe in one of those partitions. The other space that isn't accounted for I can only presume has been deleted and made ready to become a partition in which case you may need to use a data recovery program to get he files back or possibly send your hard drive to a professional company to get them to try and recover it for you.

I have what seems like a fairly serious issue Something seems to have downloaded when I clicked a link in a google search disk data problem, loss Like the description of this forum says I take measures to help prevent such things but I disk problem, data loss made a mistake I try to be cautious with what I click on because I know disk problem, data loss it's very easy to get into trouble I have the MVPS hosts file and I have the Web of Trust WOT application set up in my Firefox browser which would normally block a site that has a poor reputation from loading The actual link I clicked seemed to be for an ok site but it looks like it immediately redirected I knew I was about to hit trouble the moment that happened I saw the mark for the WOT application suddenly change to the color quot red quot I immediately closed out of the site but it looks like something already downloaded and I noticed my Java launching I shut down Java from the task manager in hopes of stopping whatever it is from going further but I guess it didn't work HDD Scan seems to have launched automatically and says quot errors Defragmentation is required quot It lists all these errors including quot Drive C initializing error Bad sectors on harddrive quot and more I was never aware of HDD Scan being on my system unless it comes with Windows It looks like it uses the same icon as Windows defrag Because of this I have not clicked on anything in HDD Scan I am afraid it might be a false program One major outcome of this is everything in My Documents has disappeared but one folder quot programs quot and a few files None of which I recognize All of My Documents files suddenly appeared in the Start Menu The folders that were in My Documents are all empty though My first thought was to run a scan It is very strange though because when I downloaded the latest MalwareBytes and Firefox asked what location to download the program to all the folders appeared in My Documents I just can't see them in Windows Explorer Malware Bytes found several things removed them and required me to restart I did and then I ran it again It found one other item again remove and restart Another issue I am having is programs are not always launching I get this error entitled quot Windows detected a hard drive problem quot The description says quot A hard drive error occurred while starting the application quot If I try opening the application again it may work the second or third time I also am getting an error quot Windows- No Disk Exception Processing Message then a string of numbers and some letters quot On top of this my desktop has cleared but I can see everything on my desktop through Windows Explorer I had some trouble launching GMER as I described before But by trying again it launched and worked fine All my personal files were under My Documents other than Firefox downloads My FF download folder is on my desktop Most of my personal files in My Documents are backed up but not all This couldn't have happened at a worse time I was running out of space on my desktop C drive In order to free some space I moved some big files music videos to the external drive I use to mirror My Documents And in order to prevent them from being copied back to the desktop harddrive C I stopped mirroring for a while until I get a new large external drive to back it all up Problem is I had not done that up to this point my fault for not being quicker So some new important documents that were created from that point to present are not backed up It would be ideal to recover My Documents but I am afraid this issue may require me to reformat I also have dual boot setup so I can use Ubuntu occasionally but there is not many saved files in Ubuntu and they are not as important I apologize that my description is very long The whole problem is somewhat scattered and strange I thought it would be best to describe it with as much detail as I can Last thing I am not sure if MalwareBytes got rid of the issue malware completely... When instaled Partition magic 8 on windows 7 when i started it program something Fixed

And later disperd my data partition like showed in picture above.

Can someone help me? maybe can some one give me link that program will fix this?

A:Lost partition letter and can't add it

You could try using DiskPart.

Click Start and type in "diskpart" if you have Windows Search enabled.

Right click the program and select Run as Administrator.

After this has loaded type in "listvolume" and hit Enter.

When you see the Partition you want to format, look at the number it has assigned for that partition.

Type "select volume 5", replace "5" with whatever number it gave you.

Finally, type select "assign letter J", replacing J with whatever letter you chose.

Windows 2000. The drive letter (F on my 60 gig drive disapeared. The drive is blind to the system and all is unaccesable. Setup and Partition magic shows the drive to be there and operating. Can the drive be rescued?

If you do not have TweakUI go HERE and get it. Once you install it you will find a number of useful features. Among these are the ability to hide individual drives (under the "My Computer" tab). This option may have been set by some other method. See if TweakUI will let you un-set it.

Hi Guys' I have a sata 160Gb hdd as second drv (ntfs) on XP home.I must have had too much wine for dinner as I formatted it & then ghosted my C drive onto it. Unfortunately the C drv is FAT 32. Now the drive ID letter (F has gone. I can still see the drive in disk manager but cant access it. Is there a way of low level formatting it ? I dont mind losing the data. Thanks Manfred.

I do have a good relationship with my PC - just a bit strained at times.

A:Lost hdd id letter on sata hdd

Oh yes, two Primary Active HardDrives.

You should still see it in My Computer
Where you can right click on it and select Format...

Or just use a Windows CD to boot from and remove it from there
(I usually unplug the main one just to make sure that I don't remove the partition (and format) that)

Either with my startup today, or sometime in the last day or two, all my drives/partitions in Windows Explorer (and XYplorer) have lost their labels and are now showing as "Local Disk." Looking in Windows 8 Computer Management and EaseUs Partition Manager, the labels are there, as shown in the screenshot. I ran all three main repair modules of Yamicsoft Windows 8 Manager and there have been a few reboots, but still the same. Any ideas what might be going on? Thanks,

A:All partition/drive labels show as Local Disk in Explorer

Sometimes they show your labels, sometimes they show "Local Disk" - My system does this too. Right now, they are all showing "Local Disk".

In every other place that matters, like in Sharing, the right names will show up. I've tried for the last 3 years to get them to show my labels, it did this in Windows 7 too. I eventually gave up. You can try "SFC /Scannow" and see if it helps.

When I am looking at the drives in my other workstations, they are all named with the Label. So I figure the labels are still there, just not being shown in Explorer.

If anyone knows a permanent solution for this, I'd like to know too.

Hi2All ...

Drive labels in Windows Explorer are different than Disk Management. Is this a bug? I've run cmd and used label E: name which runs ok but back at W Explorer a different label appears

How would I fix this?

I have a data drive which I have cleared of all but a handful of files and one folder. I am unable to delete these even though I have ensured permissions are set to Read/Write. I then tried to format it as I was going to start afresh with it anyway, but Windows said it was unable to format it. I now can't access the drive at all. I tried in DOS mode but that too failed saying I needed to do it in "elevated mode" (which I have never come across before).
What now? Thanks.
Ian
PS - Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

A:Data hard disk formatting problem

Ian,

Try it from an elevated command prompt (DOS mode).

1. Click Start
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, try the format command.

See OPTION 2, STEP 8 here for the format commands:
Partition or Volume - Create New

I have an Unique Star USB flash drive (512 MB capacity) that has been having problem since I purchased it.

I can store and retrieve data on it for the first 175 MB or so without error, but after I exceeded a certain capacity, the data become corrupt and I cannot retrieve the data once I copied them to the disk.

The files would simply disappear, or if the file is listed in the directory, the file would be empty (zero size).

I always use the device manager on the system tray to stop the disk before pulling it out to avoid corrupting data. And it's not a hardware issue because I got another disk (with the same capacity and the same manufacturer) with the same issue.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem? I appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.
