Microsoft Word 07 freezes

Q: Microsoft Word 07 freezes

when i try to change the font in excel or word it freezes and then crashes. but it doesn't do this with power point or one note. i have reinstalled it, deleted the normal.dot thing but nothing seems to work. and yes i have done the Microsoft diagnostics but it says that it should be working fine. so it would be nice if some 1 knew why this happens and how to fix it

Preferred Solution: Microsoft Word 07 freezes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a computer with Windows that has MG of memory amp a GB hard drive The problem that I have is freezing that locks up my computer completely This has happened in a number of Word Microsoft 2000 Freezes places but the main problem seems to be with Microsoft Word I have Microsoft Word 2000 Freezes contacted my computer s tech support numerous times and keep getting different answers about the cause They say it is a software problem amp blamed a virus but I checked that out amp was virus free At first I could get into Word before it froze amp I got error messages that my system was dangerously low on resources so I followed all their suggestions for clearing things up Nothing worked We have taken Word off amp reinstalled it but that did t help amp I have checked out the Microsoft website It freezes everything whenever I try to open a Word document I have thought about erasing everything amp reinstalling Windows but I have cable access that probably would get messed up if I did What can I do to fix the problem nbsp

A:Microsoft Word 2000 Freezes

If you've been locking up, probably time to clean up your hard drive, and you might as well do that first. Carefully follow the steps under Periodic Hard Drive Maintenance in Article III of http://www.helponthe.net/news/042000.html

If that doesn't work, and with Word closed, find normal.dot on your hard drive. Rename it, or them if there's more than one, to oldnormal.dot.

Relaunch Word. If that doesn't work, there's a registry fix.

Hi,

I am currently running windows xp home edition on my pc. My problem is trying to save a word document. I can open Microsoft Word, I can create a new document, but when I try to save it, my computer freezes. I have to control-alt-delete to get out of word. I've checked for viruses etc, but not finding anything there. This just started happening about two days ago. Never had this problem before.

Any suggestions? I haven't downloaded any new programs lately...

Thanks for your help.

Every time i start my microsoft word application, it freezes a couple seconds after startup. I have tried deleting my normal.dot file to restart my settings but didnt solve the problem. The error that i receive from my event viewer/application says:

Hanging application WINWORD.EXE, version 11.0.6568.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I am using office 2003 and my problem started yesterday when i tried opening a word application. No other applications in office are effected. Only microsoft word 03. Any help would be much appreciated! thanks!

A:Microsoft Word Freezes upon startup

open the shortcut properties and type /a after the " in the shortcut link..

for example mine would say:

"C:/program files/microsoft office/winword.exe" /a

that might work, its just a bypass feature, only thing is you have an instant popup that comes up asking for username, just hit escape 2 times and ur set!

Hi, Dusty. In this case, just do the typical Word troubleshooting steps described here:

That should likely get you sorted out.

One of our secretaries is having word XP freeze up on her any time she changes a font.

This is on an HP Laptop (I'll edit this tomorrow after she comes in and I can get exact specs) running Windows XP.

I have seen many other posts about Word freezing, but none seem related to fonts.

I will run updates first thing once she is back in this office, and I'll make sure that it isn't just a fluke thing. I'll also run the repair option from the control panel if it's still necessary.

I'm mostly just trying to see if anyone has heard of these issues so that I can get it up and running as fast as possible tomorrow when I actually get a chance to see the problem in action.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Never heard of it doing that. But my first step would be running Detect and Repair from the Help Menu (didn't know there was such a thing in control panel.)

Hi- I've had my HP ENVY Desktop 700-414 for less than a year, and I've had to take it to Geek Squad three times for the same issue, and it never gets resolved.  The Geek Squad techs said they've had a few HP customers come in with the same complaint:-Windows 10 start menu freezes after a few cycles of sleep/wake/sleep/wake, etc.-Microsoft Office Word and PPT freeze when Windows does this The techs said they saw on the forum that HP has identified a BIOS issue that creates this error, and they are trying to find a fix for it.  My desktop is with them now, and we were going to reset it to factory, then reload everything, but they said the same issue would pop up again.   Can you help?  I really need this desktop to work appropriately for my PhD coursework.  Thanks! -Lorenzo

A:Windows 10 Freezes/Microsoft Word & PPT Freeze Too

Hi, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Since the computer is new, did you contact HP Support for assistance and do you have some tickets with them ?I am not sure if GeekSquad is the best place to visit for computers with active warranty period, I am not sure if they are authorized HP service center. Since the computer is not with you now and since you left it to 3rd party , I can only provide you some general tips: - test the computer for hardware issues - test HDD and RAMTest using the UEFI hardware diagnostics method described here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03463381#AbT1 The idea is to exclude any hardware related problems - reimage the machine and reset it to factory default condition. Here is how>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961 - apply all Windows updates are installed- ensure all drivers are updatedHere is how >>  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139 - use HP Support Assistant to also check for and apply any updates >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467905 - Do not use or consider replacing 3rd party antivirus programs from big and popular vendors. Use the built-in Windows Firewall, Windows Defender and other security features. The idea is to rule out any issues they may cause to your system.  If the computer is under active warranty, you should inform HP support about any issues you may have with the PC and you should not use unauthorized people to mess with it. Alternatively, the warranty may be void.  Hope this helps.

You have 5 copies of IE running. Check if you have any spy-ware running.
Also you have lots of start up, which slow down your laptop, especially if your ram is not high.

You might want to increase ur ram to min 2GB to run Vista comfortably.
If you can afford, get a new laptop with win7. Vista is not supposed to exist.

Does anyone noe weather vista Microsoft word support the old formated ones? Or is there any plug-in needed to support?

A:Does Vista Microsoft Word Support Old Format Microsoft Word?

I'm assuming you're talking about the new office 2007? meaning word 2007?

If that is the case, then yes it does run older versions of word. In the sense that if you have a word document that was made and saved in Word 2003 it would work in 2007.

Just like when you make something in word 2007 you are able to save it as a Word 03-07 document so it works on both versions of Microsoft Word.

Hard to explain but here goes:

When I have a sentence that I want to move to the middle of the page, I place the curser to the left of the word and try to push it right by hitting the space bar and nothing happens.

This is only when the word is all the way to the left of the page.

Is there some type of formatting that would allow this to be free so that I can push words forward??

After recent full system recovery caused by one or more virus, I am unable to re-install Microsoft Word or Word Perfect on my Compaq Presario, which has Windows XP. Microsoft Word will sometimes start the process but then just stops, giving no indication of what steps to take next or what the problem is. Word Perfect seems to start the process each time but then gets hung up with updating what it describes as the SHFolder.dll. Have waited as long as 20 minutes for this update. The screen does show activity but it just never seems to get done. I cannot take the installation process past that point.

Any suggestions on how I can correct or cure this problem?

A:Unable to install either Microsoft Word or Word Perfect

Check here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q303437/ for some help - probably the .dll is either corrupt or the path not recognized. Depending on whether or not this page helps, either fix it with that or lookup SHFolder.dll. on the net and download a new copy from somewhere like http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shfolder and install it.

Is there a way to count the number of occurrences of a word in MS Word?

If not, is there a downloadable text editor or something that can do such a thing?

Thanks.

A:Counting occurrence of a word in Microsoft Word?

Replace the Word with something like QQQ .. or the the original word .. And it will tell you how many.
Then you can replace it back to what it was ... or just don't save the edited file.
be sure to include the spaces before n after the search word.

Dear Forum,

I'm just starting to learn about Microsoft Word 10, which was bundled within an Office 10 package. I'm noticing that as I type a document, the Word Count dialog box at the bottom left remains frozen at 0. When I right-click on it, it opens, but the Word Count is checked within it. So, it's not turned off or anything. I need to limit what I'm writing to a certain number of words. I have to complete this thing within the next day or so. Unexpected need for a troubleshooting solution.

Why isn't my word count going up? And the Characters seem stuck at 67. Maybe I clicked something I shouldn't have. Otherwise, I need some guidance here. Thanks. Steve

Doing a fix for a friend, and this is a new one for me. Her primary concern was that all of a sudden, when she opens word, she can not type anything in a document. I tried it, and nothing happens. It opens like normal, and when you try to type, it is like the keyboard is locked out.

I found a few things on google that I tried to no avail. There was a .DLL patch I did, and I also removed so registry keys.

It is Win XP home, with 256 ram, and a P4 1.7 Proc. The version of word was installed with a software bundle that included Microsft Works.

I uninstalled Word, and reinstalled Office 2000 PRO, and the same thing is happening...

Any help would be awesome.

A:Microsoft Word..I cannot type anything on Word doc

Find and delete all occurrences of Normal.dot on the system.
It sounds like the one in use is corrupt.
A new one will be created when word next runs.

Do not have Word open when you search for and delete normal.dot. Enable the viewing of hidden and system files to see it.

I have decided to try to fix a problem on my computer with the Microsoft Fix It thing that Microsoft lets us use. Unfortunately, it not only did nothing for my problem (Which I no longer care about), but it did something to Microsoft Works Word Processor, the one that comes with windows. I already tried a system restore, but I've had it for too long so my restore didn't go back far enough.

The error itself says, "Works cannot access one or more files it needs to run the Word Processor. The files may have been renamed, deleted, or moved. Try reinstalling Works, and then starting the program again." Unfortunately I don't know if it has actually been moved or deleted and I don't know how to reinstall it. Any help would be great.

Thanks.

A:Microsoft Word 2000 aka MS Word 2000 - Sending Email - Need Help Configuring

Word itself does not send (or receive) e-mail messages. You may configure Word to be your e-mail editor, but it still requires an e-mail program (such as MS Outlook) to send messages.

You can send e-mails from within Word by using File, Send To, Mail Recipient (or Mail Recipient as Attachment), but this still uses Outlook to do the sending and receiving.

Am using MS Word and the more I use it the more my computer develops some major glitches. As in desk top folders not wanting to open up and let me get in!
Anyway, talked with Gateway Tech and they said MS Word develops its own virus which can be found by doing a search on "Normal.dot" and eliminating it. And sure enough I always find those little critters and eliminating them does keep the computer running smoothly.
You would think tho' that if this is a known virus there would be a more permanent solution?!?
Any suggestions?!?

A:Microsoft Word

Many things can cause the OS to shut down. Bad hardware (disk drive, video card, power supply) is a common culprit. Also when downloading or installing software a bit gets dropped and the software malfunctions when OS encouters the code sending the pc to la-la land. Uninstall, Redownload reinstall if you know the offending software.

There are a couple of options to fix this.

1) You can uninstall the Office Live Add-In which, I understand, is no longer supported or functioning as originally intended.

2) You can locate the following file:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Office Live\OLConnector.dll

Right-click on the OLConnector.dll file and select "rename" and rename it to:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Office Live\OLConnector.dll.old

And a note of advice, in the future when posting error messages it's important they they be quoted exactly as they appear.

A:Microsoft Word

What do you mean, "saved in the recommended format". If you don't save it as a Word document, and depending on what you save it as, it can lose some of it's formatting. If you are saving it in Word, and it is losing formating, I would be suspicious of a virus or a corrupted Normal.dot. You can try renaming your Normal.dot to Normal.old and then trying it. If it works, then you know the Normal.dot was corrupted. If not, then delete the new one and rename the old one back since it has your personalized settings such as Macros and Auto Text.

Alright, my family just got a new computer, with all the bakery fresh software available. The problem is, Microsoft Word isn't backwards compatible, so the older files will not open. Some of these were files that they needed for work, so they're very important. I've searched online, and the only converters I can find are wps to doc, the exact opposite of what I actually need. Do these converters work the other way too? Or can someone point me in the direction of what I need? All help appreciated, thanks!

A:Microsoft Word

A .wps file is created by Microsoft Works, not by MS Word. You will need to open the .wps file and then save it as a Word document. The link below is to MS's Works to Word converter:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enRegards,John

I have a question about a problem with Microsoft word 2010. I know the fix is probably easy but I can not figure it out. Recently, when using word I must have clicked something without even knowing. Usually there is a little space at the top of the page and when I click on the page the curser is below the space, like with a header, even though I haven't added a header. It's just the way it is supposed to be. My problem is now when I go to new word page my cursor goes directly to the top of the page and the only way I can get the space back is to manually add a header every time. How do I get word to go back to its default settings? Thanks

A:Microsoft Word

You probably inadvertently changed the View so under the View tab select Print Layout and it should go back to the way you want it.

Hi, My microsoft Word program is messing up and it's one of the programs I count on bigtime. Everything works normal until you try to save your file, then the computer just hangs with the timer and never does save it. It says not responding. Is the entire word program messed up? What do I do? Please don't give me big, scary, complicated instruction because I will certainly really mess up things! Help help! THanks, Lisa

My operating system is Windows 7 and I'm currently using an old version of Microsoft Office which I'm happy with.

However, today I've opened an attachment from my email which is in Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 and it has now converted all my existing Word files to this format!!!!

How can it do this and can I somehow revert back to my old version???

A:Microsoft Word

Pick a file you want to convert click it once so it's highlighted in blue right click it and pick open with. Pick the older version and check off the box at the bottom that says open all associated files with.

I have a laptop with windows 98 SE on it and I'd like to install microsoft word on that computer. Which Microsoft Office is compatible with windows 98 and is there a way that I can just install microsoft word without all the extra bells and whistles?

A:About Microsoft Word

I know that for me, being a Windows 98 user, I initially had Office 97 first. Now I have Office 2000. So either one of those should be fine.

Is there anyway to save the desktop in Word 97, so that when you open Word, everything is the same as when you closed it, even if you turn your computer off? I haven't seen anything that will accomplish that feat. I have some other programs on my computer that will save the desktop. Sure would save a lot of time. Thanks.

A:Microsoft Word 97

desktop??
do u mean the layout?

the menus should not change after a reboot and if u want to save the layout, word saves it in normal.dot file

find where u hae it on HD, copy it to another folder u will remember for backup

set word the way u like it and save it as normal.dot in the folder u found the original in

if desktop is something else then ignore what i said but do explain what u mean by it

Hi, can anyone help me on this. Microsoft Word able to insert a jpg file but isn't possible to insert file for visual (formatting purpose) but without printing out. Eg I like to base on a cheque's format to create details and slot the cheque into the printer to print whatever relevant details but without the cheque image. Thanks

A:Microsoft word

I would arrange 'text boxes' in word that would put information in the places you want it to print. You'll have to 'format text box' to prevent it from printing the square lines.

Hello,

I have a word document. Some words or phrases are hightlighted in grey. If I double click on these highlighted words a dialogue box appears giving me the option of selecting a different word or phrase. The highlighting does not appear on the document when you print it.

I would like to make other documents with this feature. Can anyone point me to a guide or tutorial that explains how to do this?

I am also interested in how to do templates where information can be inserted into a form without greatly affecting the overall format of the form.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Constantine

A:Microsoft Word

Did you copy/paste the document into Word? If so, that could happen because of you actually copying some tags or such.If you want the greyed out text to print, do this......Copy the document using Edit/Select All, Then paste it into NotePad. After it's there, select it all, then copy it back into WordPad/MS Word.Note: Doing this will remove ALL formatting of the document. (small price to pay)Doing Templates:If you have WordPerfect, it'll do it. I'm sure Word does it too,, but I don't recall, but you should be able to do it with MS Word. You will need to setup the fields to which you want your own data to be in, and leave the rest of the document as it is. I'm sure MS Word does it, and you'll be able to do it in just a few minutes or so.You bring back memories of that...... creating the document,, then inserting names, addresses or whatever, in the specified fields,... thousands of documents at a time. (well, actually 1 document) but thousands of names and such.

Good Day I recently graduated school in a network administration course and have Microsoft Word found myself as the on call administrator for Microsoft Word a windows network The network is using DFS to replicate files across servers in case that information will help with the solution I need The problem is that one of my users should be able to edit all the documents in a folder while no one else is able to I have set the permissions on the folder allowing her group modify permission to the folder while all other users have only quot Read amp Execute quot quot List Folder Contents quot and quot Read quot Before this morning the documents were set to read only to ensure that users cannot edit them I am finding however that the person who should be able to edit the documents cannot do so when another user has a copy of the file open For now we re just having her call the user that has an open copy of the document and tell them to close it so she can make changes but I d like for her to be able to make changes when she pleases regardless of who else is reading the document at the time Has anyone else encountered this problem Anyone got a work around for it nbsp

A:Microsoft Word

Hi,
Does the person allowed to edit the document get a dialog box in Word asking them if they want to open a read-only copy? If so, then it means that someone else has a copy open. Permissions on Windows unfortunately don't work with Word, meaning that even if someone can't actually save an edited document, just opening it will lock the document, not allowing anyone else it edit it either. This is just a limitation of Word. A quick option may be not to allow anyone else to open it if that is possible - either that or save a local copy, edit it and copy it back to the server.

Hope this helps

Hello,

Anytime I try and open up a document in Microsoft Word 2003, it does not work. I have to physically open up the microsoft word program and then open the document from there. Why can I not open the document from just going to my documents or from an email attachment? It is very annoying. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

A:Microsoft Word

Maybe you should uninstall, then reinstall Word. See if that clears up the problem.

my computer came with works suite 2001. Recently I had to reformat my computer and I used my factory disk to reload works suite, However word wich is part of it, opens, says installing, and then asks for key number. Since it came with the computer I have no key number. Dell wont talk to me because warrenty is out, microsoft wants an arm and a leg to talk to them and they say its dells problem any way. I sould be able to use the word program that came with my reinstall disk. all the other programs work.

A:microsoft word

Maybe have a look at openoffice.org
Unless you have better luck then I, Dell will not be very helpful and microsoft less so.
OpenOffice won't cost an arm and a leg (it's free), but will be a good replacement for works.

I am working in Microsoft Word and have the following problem:

I have an 18 page document of genealogy. I want to put a border on four sides of each page and page numbers.

I clicked on Format and selected a border. The border appeared on the four sides of all 18 pages as well as the page numbers.

However, when I clicked on Print Preview the page number was there but the bottom border was missing. When I print the document the page number is there but the bottom border does not print.

I have changed margins, changed point size of the border etc, but nothing has worked.

I would appreciate any remedy if there is one.

I'm working with a Tablet PC (using Windows XP Professional) and when I try to select Open or Save and then select the area to search file locations, it takes an extremely long time for the list of network drives to display.

This doesn't happen with viewing file locations either through My Computer or Windows Explorer. It does this wether the Tablet is docked or free.

I ran the Word 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package, but this did not fix the problem.

Anyone have any other suggestions? HELP!!!!!

Where do I search for the AutoRecovery document backups I see occurring every few minutes when the "floppy" appears briefly at the bottom of the page and then disappears.

I know this function is available but I would not know where to look to regain the temporary backup if I did need to do so.

Thanks,

davidrs

A:Microsoft Word

It handles it automatically. If you have a lock-up or power failure, Word will open after you reboot with the saved file open.

It stores them in Windows>Temp with a .wbk extension, but I don’t think it even saves it as a temp file without an uncontrolled shutdown of Word without the opportunity to save the active document.

Hi There...

Try "Right-Clicking" on the toolbar and see what options you have. You may be able to solve this by shutting down the toolbar in question.

Also, go to: HOUSECALL and scan for virus activity.
