wireless mouse properties not being remembered/activated

Q: wireless mouse properties not being remembered/activated

I've just replaced my Microsoft Desktop wired with the Microsoft Desktop wireless the keyboard has no problems but every time I start up the computer the mouse scroll speed is like lightning unusably fast and I have to go into control panel properties wireless remembered/activated being not mouse mouse but I don't wireless mouse properties not being remembered/activated have to change anything --once I've loaded that device properties window the settings kick in and the mouse begins to work normally with one exception--sometimes I'm not yet sure of exactly when the wheel-click properties also don't work e g I get an ineffectual 'ding' noise when trying to open a new tab in firefox with middle-click even though the settings show it should be set for 'default behavior' after a restart and control panel window it will start responding normally bafflingly being both Microsoft products I'm a little surprised it's having this problem this has been going on since I bought it a week ago no amount of shut downs or restarts or changing mouse properties has changed its failure to activate the properties accordingly on start-up any ideas would be appreciated thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Mate as a general ruel I don't like Microsoft mice full stop keyboards fine. Did you get installing the mouse software message when you first plugged it in? if not then you might try checking is the driver is up to date in the Device Manager or you could try here

If this doesn't work then I would go for a Logitec mouse.

Hi, I'm getting a very strange problem on one client computer. It has the Company KMS key installed , same as all the other computers however when a user logs in it says "Your Licence will expire soon" which is very strange especially when I look
at the system properties and it says it is activated.
The KMS console says it is genuine..

weird! I have tried using a MAK key with it and that fixes the problem, but if I reinstall the KMS key, the problem returns.

Hey everyone,
I got a new HP laptop running Windows 7. When I turn on my laptop, my wireless is off. So I click on F12 (my wireless button), to activate my wireless. The orange light turns blue. Even though the light indicates that my wireless is on, I have to go to device manager>networking>802.11n>advanced then activate my radio for my laptop to pick up the wireless signals. The problem is that I have to do this every time I turn on my laptop, and its getting quite repetitive. Please give me instructions on how to allow the Laptop to do this automatically, rather than me doing it manually on every start up.
Thank You

I have a problem with my Toshiba Laptop keyboard. Satellite A200-192

It starts typing Z or / or \ by itself. Sometimes it is ZZZZZZ (tens of Z) of \\\\\\\ (tens of \). For example if I try to type "Hello" it will type as "Hezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzlzzzzzzzzzlzzzo".

Sometimes the up arrow or down arrow or pagedown is pressed continously.

I have Norton Antivirus. I have run 10-20 antivirus, spyware and Malware tools. They could not find anything.

In a forum they said that this might be a Keyboard hardware problem. The KEYBOARD is NOW ultimately shutdow....Presently i am using a external keyboard, but now and then the right click of the mouse is activated....

Can you please let me know what should be done?

I am using Windows 7 and have probs with laptop Toshiba and cursor jumping. A previous thread explains to go into the Mouse Props and reduce the sensitivity scale to 0. However there is no such tag or description as far as I can see in the M Props. What am I doing wrong I want to desensitise my mouse pad. I know that my keyboard is working properly and that an external mouse works ok. This is what I am now using but it is inconvenient. Thanks in anticip....ation.

Does anybody know of a program to change (expand) mouse properties past the windows own settings.
I just bought a new mouse that suits me great but there are no drivers for it so Windows have only normal controls for it. It has 6 buttons and resolution control but can't change settings or remap buttons. Tried controls for some other makes but they can't do the trick, need something pretty universal.

I'd verify from your computer's BIOS if LAN and WLAN support are both enabled.

Depending on the Model of your computer, when you retart it you may either select F1 or F2 to go the BIOS setup.

I have used system restore, I have used Norton Ghost to go back and restore more comprehensively and I have tried turning UAC on and off, I am signing on as Administrator, I I have rolled back the mouse driver (Wheel Mouse Optical) and reloaded the latest driver - all with no avail.

I am using a keyboard w/touchpad (Adesso ACK-730UB), which is plug + play, no mfg. driver provided.

I want to disable the "tap to click", use pad for moving cursor and nothing else.

There's nothing in Mouse Properties that can change this touchpad setting.
Properties shows "hid-compliant mouse" and nothing specific to touchpad. Options are "buttons/ pointer/ pointer options/ wheel/ hardware".

Searching, found suggestions to install drivers by Ultranav and Synaptics. Thought it might work even though I'm using a different touchpad - didn't help. There's nothing on Adresso's site for this either.

Any ideas if this can be fixed? Lots of people seem to hate "tap to click", but I'm stuck with hardware that seems unsupported. Must be a workaround somewhere, no?

I can't open Mouse Properties in Control Panel. I click and nothing happens. I ran sfc /scannow but it didn't fix the problem. It found some corrupted files which it couldn't fix, but they weren't related to the mouse or control panel in any way I could see.

A:Can't open mouse properties in control panel.

See if there is a driver for your mouse. I have a Microsoft mouse for instance. I would check the manufacturer's site , un-install and re-install the driver. That may work. If it's a generic mouse, you could always go into "device manager" and un-install the driver and let Windows find it again. That may work too. Let us know.

This will load BIOS setup utility.Press F9 to load defaults.Press F10 to save and exit. When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working. If the mouse is not working, turn off the computer. As you power it back on, tap F8 and load advanced boot options.Start in safe mode. Does the touchpad work in safe mode? Let me know how everything goes.

I've posted to other forums and I have had an external PC professional have a look, but not even the latter could find out what happened.

The reason I need it is that I manually set my IP address at home, but let it find it automatically elsewhere, but can't as cannot access the TCP/IP elements.

Any help would be great

That means that the device driver doesnt have the feature implemented, nothing you can do.

You can try going into "power options" in the control panel and seeing if you have the option there, but thats the only other place i can think of.

Lately I have been having an annoying problem with my wireless mouse. For some reason the pointer will lag, and be very sluggish and jumpy. I've had this mouse on this computer for about a year and I've had no problem. Out of nowhere this problem is happening. I've tried re installing drivers with no luck. I tried uninstalling intellipoint and re-installing it, but when I tried I got the BSOD, and then it completely disabled my mouse and keyboard so I had to use wired peripherals to go in to safe mode and do a system restore. Now everything is working again, except my mouse is still jumpy.

Thanks for any help.

A:Annoying mouse lag - Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500

Erratic behaviour from wireless peripherals, especially keyboards and/or mice, particularly where they were working correctly before, generally points to a dying battery in the peripheral. Have you tried replacing it? If it is rechargeable, it may no longer be holding charge and will also need replacing.

I was trying to set up an ad hoc network and toyed around with some of the wireless network settings. The network I was trying to set up didn't quite work out so I tried to set it back to how they were but forgot how they were.

Is there a way to delete the Wireless Network Connection and let it create a new one or is there a "standard" setting for this to strictly find a wireless network and connect to it?

I am running Windows XP Pro.

The wireless network properties box is missing. I have a Satellite pro 4600 with Linksys card for wireless and every thing worked once before. I replaced the hard drive with a new one and rebuilt the system. After installing the Cisco PEAP supplicant software to be able to logon at the college the box is now missing. I've tracked the problem to the PEAP software overwriting files on Win2000 sp4.
Or so the masters at M/S claim. Their advice was to reinstall Sp4. This didn't work. All of the information I have for configuring wireless cards for Win2000 show this box and it was there the firt time I set up the system. I have reformatted the hard drive twice then Installed Win2000 pro and the Sp3 and Sp4 using two different Install cds. I did not install the PEAP supplicant and still no box.

A:Windows 8 cannot access wireless properties or save pw.

It sounds like your version of Windows 8 is missing something or maybe just some files are missing, hard to say why this problem would occur.

You might try running the sfc/scannow command to see if there are any missing files.

Is there a freeware program to view WZC profile information from the command line? I found one that allows you to display the profiles themselves, however to display the profile properties I haven't found one.

I could also use direct registry edits if I had to, using the reg command. The problem being, that it would appear that the information is stored in binary format, which I've got no idea how to even manually pull the profile name from. The only thing that information seems to give me, is the abillity to later manipulate the order of the networks, that is maybe. I don't need that part yet, but will later on. I guess, since viewing the profiles is so slow, direct registry edits "might" be preffered. This is WZC I'm concerned about, not any third party utillities. I'm using Windows XP, and it's SP2 or later.

A:View Wireless Network Properties from the Command Line

Researching further, it looks like nobody knows how to pull the information from the registry. I've got Windows XP, so netsh wlan won't work. It looks like this is leaving me now with 2 solutions to get some of this information.

Solution 1: Use some kind of programming API to get the information and display it from the command line. I've therefore heard that there seems to be an interface called the WZC native API. If that's true, how would you use it in AutoIt or in a BATCH file or in a VBScript? I've never used anything like it before, so I need detailed explanations of what the code does, except for that doesn't mean I need to know all the internals of every function. But I need to know how to use it. I know BATCH files well, but I don't really know the full VBScript or AutoIt languages, though I can make some of it's code out anyway.

Solution 2: Somehow maybe use AutoIt in another way to read the properties from the dialog box. I know from research that this is probably possible, but I don't know how to do it. And what I need to do, is hide all that visible clicking going on, even if I'm doing some clicking. That is - hide it from the end user. It's nice to see it moving on the screen, but I'd rather not see it if I were the end user, in this case.

Now keep in mind, that at this point, all I'm trying to implement in these programs, is a way to do exactly what you can already do in Windows XP by default (but it has to be compatible with Windows XP Home, Pro, and MCE), except for from the command line. This is just one small part of a larger picture. I'll then be able to use that command in my other parts of my code that I need it in. So my general rule that I need to follow, is if you can't do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you can't do it in this program. If you CAN do it in the Windows XP dialog boxes, you CAN do it in this program. But everything is from the command line, in the end result. If Windows XP already provides a command line, which in this case it doesn't, I should use it. If that's not possible, I should use the registry, but I guess that's not possible if nobody knows how. If that's not possible, I guess I'll try to use a VBScript, and if that's not possible, I'll try to use AutoIt. But the end result is a command line program.

I hope this starts to get me down the right track. It took this weekend to find this information so far.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1, on an HP G60-120US laptop.  I have an Atheros AR5009 wireless adapter.
I have no problems with internet access.  However, in Network and Sharing Center I left click on "change adapter settings", right click on Wireless Network Connection, and then left click on Properties I get an error box that says "An unexpected error occurred."  I tried to do a clean boot using MSCONFIG but that did not work.  I tried to uncheck the "Load startup items" box but after restarting it was shaded solid again.  I then tried to check the "Diagnostic Startup" radio button and then click on "apply" but it jumps right back to selective startup.  Can you please help me clean my laptop?

Hey, how are you?

So I'm trying to connect to the internet via wireless. I have this sheet that tells me step-by-step instructions on how to do this (connect to my work network). The problem is that when I right-click on 'Wireless Network Connection,' only the Networking and Sharing are the only options that show up. I need the 'General' 'Wireless Networks' 'Advanced' tabs to continue my set-up. Am I clicking on the wrong thing? This also happens with my 'Local Area Connection'.

I'm just wondering if there are any differences between the two. I have integrated bluetooth on my laptop, so I won't need a dongle for it. I also know bluetooth is slower than wireless usb, but does this have any effect for a mouse?

In terms of performance and accuracy, are there any advantages or disadvantages to either format? Why are bluetooth mice seemingly much less popular with manufacturers?

Thanks a bunch.

A:Any difference between a wireless usb mouse or a bluetooth mouse?

Here's some advantages and disadvantages

Bluetooth you can expect 30 feet distance from the EEE. Wireless IR you can expect from 4 to 6 feet.

Easy to setup and configure
You plug Wireless in and it just works. With Bluetooth , you have to use the command line to set things up, and you have to script it or else every time you boot you'll have to give it all the commands.

The Bluetooth wins this one. The wireless keyboard and mouse use a USB port and do not give you anything else. The Bluetooth adapter uses the same port, but also lets you connect Bluetooth stereo headphones, your mobile phone, etc.

It really depends on what your needs are. If your living room is 12 feet and you want to hook your EEE up to your PC and surf from your lazyboy at the other end of the room, infrared won't do it. If you want the keyboard in front of the standard EEE screen and just want a better one, then the wireless IR is fine.

Have you run Windows Updates and see if it offers a new driver.
The keyboard is very old. Just might be time for a new one. You could also go to Device Manager and select update driver for the keyboard.

I have 6 or 7 old keyboards. Also gave a few away. I have never wore one out. Just kept buying them looking for one I really liked.
Years later I found one I like.

I had to replace my keyboard after 3 1/2 yrs since the keys were sticking and the letters worn off. I bought the Microsoft Wireless Laser 6000 Mouse with the wireless keyboard. It works great with one problem. If I enable "allow this device to bring computer out of Standby" for either the mouse or the keyboard, the computer never goes into a full standby. The fan is always running and so are some other parts of the computer. If I dont configure the mouse or keyboard that way, the computer will go into regular and complete standby but will need to be turned on with the power button to bring it out of standby. The Receiver is USB so Im thinking the reason the computer doesnt completly power down is due to the receiver needing to be active. Is there a work around or do I just stick with using the power button?

You don't state what your system is specifically, if you could give us more detail.....

Right click the desktop and click screen resolution, click identify and it will notify you which screen is which. You will need to make the laptop your main display.

You could also(in screen resolution) click the drop down and show on the screen you have just identified. This is what I do when not using the second screen because with nvidia chips the memory, shaders etc hit full speed when two monitors are connected and heats the chip up by 13-15c.

After getting the virus "Live Security Platinum" (that I've cleared) I have an unpleasant and quirk lingering effect.

The icon size is no more remembered and I have to manually change it (from medium to small) after every boot.

I know how to change the icon size, but I'd like to have my setting remembered and not having to re-adjust it every time.

I've tried messing with the registry, i.e. setting to 16 the value of this key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Icon Size
and the corresponding key associated with my account...
.. but with no effect.

I wouldn't want to make a Windows 7 repair, when probably the problem could be solved with some registry tweak. But where?

Any help?

Still unsolved after some more searching.

I'm a little surprised that this problem (originally caused by some modification made by the nasty virus "Live Security Platinum") is not much recognized and there are only a few others posts in the net that expose it (with no simple solution to be applied).

I really would like to understand why the icon size setting (large, medium, small) is not saved. Where is this setting saved? In the registry (where)?

I've found out that I could create a new user profile and than transfer all my olduser files to the new one (see Fix a corrupted user profile). But I'm afraid that it could cause some other troubles...

ASUS sets various defaults to prevent the user from changing the configuration.

You can change it easily if your system has gpedit.msc ( Not in all windows versions ).

More info

To use it;
Start>Seach Box>type in "gpedit.msc" without the quotations
The Local Group Policy Editor will open
Expand User Configuration>Expand Administrative Templates>Expand Desktop>now click on Desktop in the sub-directory key
Look for the entry in the right hand pane "Desktop Wallpaper"
Double click on that and choose Setting - available options will be; not configured, enabled or disabled
Choose disabled

The same applies to many other such settings.

Hi all,

First of all, I thank the people who give answers here. I had a lot of ease from it. Keep up the good work

My problem:
When I try to open a PDF file, I always/still gets the question
"How do you want to open this type of file (pdf) ?"
I tried the usual ways:
+ to set association with "Set Associations" in default programs
+ registry entry is ok (as far as I can tell)
Please help me with this. I am getting annoyed to tell everytime to choose the same program

I am running Firefox Version 3.0.9Under the security tab I have checked "remember passwords" and under the privacy tab I have enabled "accept cookies". For about 3-4 weeks now when I go to any site and tell it to "remember me" its fine until I close the browser. Once its closed however, the site doesn't remember me any longer and I have to re-type it. I am currently using Zone Alarm as my AV and it hasn't indicated any problems but I'm a little bit worried about this. Is it possible I have a virus or is this a Firefox issue? I don't use IE (I'm running version 7) very often but it doesn't seem to be a problem there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Passwords & ID do not get remembered in Firefox

Using the AutoComplete feature in Internet Explorer or Firefox can be useful but it is a security risk. It is not a good practice to save passwords with your browser for sites which have private information about yourself or financial information such as credit card numbers. If someone else uses your computer with the same account, they may be able to get access to all your username and password information. That would allow them to visit those web sites which require a password for security purposes. Further, if your machine becomes infected with a backdoor Trojan, a remote attacker could gain unauthorized access to the computer and steal sensitive information like passwords, personal and financial data. By the time you find out your passwords have been compromised, its probably too late. For maximum security and privacy its best to:Disable AutoComplete in Internet ExplorerDisable AutoComplete in FirefoxIf using Firefox as your primary browser, you can also use the Autocomplete Manager Add-on.If you insist and want to enable autocomplete in Firefox, please refer to these instructions.

Recently had to reinstall Win2K Pro. Got everything back to "normal" but the "remember view settings". I have gone to "folders" and checked "remember view settings but it defaults to "list" rather than details. I think there is a registry key under
HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\Software\Microsoft and then I get lost. I think there is a "SHELL" value but I cannot find it. Of course, I prefer to fix with out altering the registry but I can work with the registry. (Note: I can find this in my laptop runnig XP pro but not this Win2k)
Thanks much.

I've seen this happen on 2 PC's now, and both have been from a clean install of Windows XP.

One is a Sony DVD+/-RW and the other is a generic brand drive.

What happens, is you can put a disk in the drive, and when you eject that, and put in a totally different disc - it still thinks the original is in there.

Has anyone else come across this, and if so found a fix?

Cheers; Dan

A:DVD/CD in drive remembered, even when ejected.

Hi, I've seen that a few happens when the disc is ejected a bit too soon....helps if you use the method to right click the CD in Explorer view, and then select "Eject". Just pushing the tray button is when I noticed the sticky CD that remained well after the CD was out. (I think it was a DVD movie, not a CD!)
I closed Explorer, reopened, it was still showing> put the same CD back in, it spun up, then I closed it as above, ejected, and it was gone.
Can't say if there is a setting to permanently keep it from occurring, but someone here may know.
Might have something to do with XP's AutoPlay feature, which you can disable, see this below:

I have a couple of drives mapped as Network drives to my W7 Pro laptop. One of the network drives is on an XP machine the other is a NAS.

Everytime I access the XP drive I am asked for username & password even though everytime I enter it I tick the "Remember my credentials" box.

Is there something else I need to do in order for W7 to stop prompting me ?

Hi and welcome
Might be something in gpedit preventing it. Were the shares created in another OS, IE vista?

When I mount a drive from my OSX box from Win7 the password is never remembered

Explorer -> Tools -> Map Network drive
Pick drive letter
Folder: \\\foldername
Reconnect at logon checked
Connect using different credentials checked

But when I reboot or come back from sleep it always prompts me for credentials

A:Mapped Drive Password not remembered

So I have to require password on wake in order for it to save passwords to mapped drives?

Where are those annoying user names & passwords (which Windows remembers, to automatically insert) located in the OS system files?

I want to keep the overall system, but also want to clean it up (purge old entries, mispellings, etc.)

BTW - Running XP Home (@ home), 2000 Pro (@ office.)

A:Windows (Remembered) Passwords Location?

C:, Documents and Settings, Your user name, Local Settings, (make sure that the computer is set to see hidden files or local settings will not show up) Temporary internet files.. Any cookies in there hold the stored passwords.

I don't know why I said "Yes, Remember my password" when the box appeared, but I did and now I'd like to go back to signing in as usual - with my password.  Appreciate the easiest way possible.  Maybe I should mention this was here at BC at signing in.

Hi I have a folder of home videos that I 6.41Gb says says folder 2.67Gb, properties properties *.* back up to a USB key with Syncback The key is nearly full and I'm trying to reduce the size of that folder But here's the thing If I folder properties says 2.67Gb, *.* properties says 6.41Gb right-click on my 'Home videos' folder and select 'Properties' it tells me I have files in folders taking Gb However if I open the folder and search for to show all the files then select all right-click 'Properties' it tells me I have files in folders taking Gb Still at the bottom of the Windows Explorer window it says items selected This is the case on both the folder in My Documents on the PC and also the matching folder on the USB key Treesize also shows Gb for both folders In fact as far as I can figure what with everything else on the same USB key there wouldn't even be room for a Gb folder I've tried showing both hidden and system files and folders but there's nothing extra to see Can anyone please explain this anomaly I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure it out

Hi, I`ve updated my t440p to windows 10. And one of the many issues is autoswitching of headphones and speaker volumes. In windows 7, when I plugged my headphones volume level was automatically changed. For example, for speakers volume level is 0 and for headphones is 60 and, if I plugged headphones volume level was 60 and when I unplugged vol. level was 0 accordingly. But it doenst work in windows 10. Can it be fixed? Thank you for helping.
