Windows 7-drivers or Vista-drivers by Acer

Q: Windows 7-drivers or Vista-drivers by Acer

I've just updated my Acer Notebook to Windows 7. I've installed all the drivers that Acer supplies for Windows 7.

But what about the drivers that are not supplied? Should I install the ones that Acer supplies for Vista or stick with the 'pre-installed' drivers by Windows 7 ... Everything seems to work with the pre-installed ones.

And how do I check wether or not the Intel Turbo Memory is working correctly?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can only reply to the first question. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Is what I'd suggest. On the second we'll have to have someone more familiar with intel turbo memory. Try Google I did and found a lot of interesting articles on turbo memory. You can draw your own conclusions as to it's effectiveness. Fabe http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=3009

Hello everyone,

I searched around the forums and found a relevant thread but it said to open a new one since it had been 417 days since last posted on. I'm having trouble with my Acer laptop not being able to use my wireless network adapter. I've looked for the correct drivers but can not seem to find a site that isn't just trying to get me to download a driver medic of driver fix app. If someone can provide me with a link or direct me in the right direction i would appreciate it. I had to reinstall windows Vista Business on an Acer Aspire AX1200-U1640A 2GB install went well but when I tried to set up my internet, wireless did not show, I called my internet provider we tried to set it up as broadband but that didn't work either. It seems I do not have the drivers for the Ethernet Controller and other things listed under other devices see pictures in attached document. Since I do not have the internet on that computer, I downloaded the Ethernet driver from Acer to a jump drive but I cannot get it to work. Please advise for all "other devices" with the same problem. Oh, yes the Ethernet cord is plugged in and my laptop has wifi. Thanks

Windows Update should take care of the necessary drivers for you.

There are also programs like DriverPack Solution(Recommended) or DriverMax or slimdriver that will take care of those drivers

Hi,

I recently bought an Acer Aspire E1-522 laptop without an operating system (it is designed for Windows 8). Today I installed Windows XP on it, but some drivers are not installed, for example the wireless network driver and sound driver.

I've tried to install the drivers from the Acer website but the computer just tells me that they aren't compatible.

Is there any way I can install these drivers on XP even though the laptop is designed for Windows 8?

Thanks in advance

Hey all,

I just acquired a new laptop an Acer Aspire E1-510 laptop.
It comes with Windows 8 by default and wanted to install Windows 7, so I did my regular pre-install driver checks, and found out Acer does not have Windows 7 drivers for this model.
I saw in another post that the same thing happened to someone else for a different Acer E1 model and they found the drivers. Could you help me with finding the correct drivers?

Thanks in advance,

Ampie

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10-eligible-models there is no support for you model from Acer on windows 10, so you will need to search new drivers by yourself. the only way to update your VGA drivers, is to check with this Intel utility:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24345/Intel-Driver-Update-Utility uninstall the Acer drivers and install the Intel from the utility.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire L3600 that I would like to upgrade to Windows 7 preferably 64-bit.

I have add a look on the Acer support site and the only driver available is for the sound card. Looking on this forum I see some people have installed Windows 7 but are unable to get a new drive up working with the wireless LAN card.

Does this mean that this model is basically not upgradable? Or as someone else found some tricks around this area where they have found some drivers work.

I am not going to attempt anything until I can satisfy myself that an upgrade will go smoothly.

Robert?

Hello!I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15r Special Edition with Windows 8 as it's default operating system. Since I don't like it that much, I plan to format the hard drive (by going into computer-> Right click on C: -> Format) and then to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on it.After the clean installation procedure, I was wondering if I could simply insert the Dell Drivers and Utilities disc into the optical drive and intall the drivers like I would normally do.Therefore, the real question would be: Will the Windows 8 drivers provided by Dell be compatible with Windows 7?Thank you very much everyone.FatLord

A:Planning to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7. Will the drivers provided on my Dell "Drivers and Utilities" be comp...

I did find this one "Inspiron 15R SE 7520" If that is your model then the Dell website has Windows 7 64bit drivers and Windows 8 64 bit drivers available for download.

I would use the Windows 7 Drivers for windows 7, Just download them ahead of time and burn them to a CD or store on a flash drive so you will have them handy to use.

I would also have my Antivirus ready to install before I went on the Internet.

3rd point. Windows will prevent you from formatting the drive it is installed on. So you have to do it during the install process.

Good Luck

I came across an issue that I find confusing. Whilst trying to install a software to run a mobile USB flash modem, the software pops this message:

*************************************************************
your current device installation settings is configured to prefer drivers from Windows Update over locally installed
drivers. This can cause Unlimited data Manager not to work correctly.

do you want to change the settings to prefer locally installed drivers over Windows Update?
**********************************************************

What does it imply if I change my settings to prefer locally installed drivers over windows update drivers?
And can this action be undone and where/how? (I searched my machine but didn't find where this option is)

Thank you for reading

Greetings This is a general question for a fresh install of Windows on a computer Let's say we just completed the installation and we open up Device Manager we haven't used Windows Update yet Device Manager shows us that there are - let's say quot quot - devices that do not have drivers installed for them If we visit the computer manufacturers website though they'll have - let's say quot quot Windows Installed OEM - General Website Drivers Question Vs Drivers - different drivers to download If we only install the quot quot drivers for the devices that Windows couldn't find drivers for are we hurting our computing performance by not installing the other quot quot drivers that were available on the manufacturers website This is just good to know in general because I've faced this situation with every install of Windows since I began computing General Question - Windows Installed Drivers Vs OEM Website Drivers with Windows But the reason I'm asking now is because the nincompoops at Acer - despite me entering my serial number - still offer me every possible driver for my model including drivers for hardware that's not in my computer Windows - of course - can't identify the hardware so I'm ready to rip out the last little bit of hair on my head Thanks

A:General Question - Windows Installed Drivers Vs OEM Website Drivers

Some manufacturers offer an utility that helps you identify what stuff you have in the laptop, I think Acer did.
You can also try the hardware-detection program this forum has, this tutorial

Also check the driver version, as some manufacturer list multiple driver versions and you only need the latest (usually, otherwise take the last version that works).

Also, installers of these drivers usually look up the hardware IDs of the hardware and if they don't detect anything that could benefit from them will abort installation. Some instead install anyway and you will have some drivers you won't need, but won't cause any issue as again Win7 knows that they don't match any hardware ID, and will leave them alone.

So, you may have noticed that I am talking of Hardware IDs, that are basically each device's own "calling card" integrated in each device, you can identify the hardware by looking up its hardware ID and then searching it on Google to convert that code into a human-readable device model and brand.

Open device manager, right-click on an unknown device, click on "properties", then go in the "details" tab of its properties panel from Device Manager, click on the drop-down menu and select "Hardware IDs". right-click on the codes you get on the text panel below it and select copy, then search the code on Google to identify the device.

To my knowledge, when an OS such as Windows 8.1 is booted, all firmware/bios drivers are replaced by more appropriate OS drivers in the boot drive during start up. I learnt this happens for the latest versions of Windows. Am I right? Do all bios drivers get replaced? Does this happen with the latest versions of OS X as well?

If this is so, then you can discard firmware as suspected of causing problems on a computer that's already booted up. Unless there's a problem that's causing a driver to remain in RAM after boot.

A:Does firmware drivers get completely replaced by OS drivers after boot in OS X and Windows?

I am trying to install some widcomm bluetooth drivers but everytime I plug in the usb adapter windows install it's own drivers. I tried manually updating the drivers from device manager but it doesn't allow it.
Is ther a way to stop windows from installing the drivers to begin with?

A:Trying to install widcomm drivers. Getting overrun by windows drivers

First. Do not connect the usb device.

Install the drivers for the device, and only connect the device when either prompted to do so, or after the installation is complete.

Just in the process of reinstalling my Win7 OS. I have an ATI Radeon HD5750 Graphics Card and when Windows was installing I noticed that it installed drivers for the graphic card. In my previous install I had the Catalyst Control Centre installed but never ever used it for anything that I know of. So my question is, do I need to install the CCC package from the ATI site or are the windows installed drivers just as good. On a similar tack without starting a new thread. Do I need to reinstall the chipset drivers for my Gigabyte MA770T-UD3 Motherboard or are they still installed?.

A:Windows 7 drivers or ATI graphic card drivers?.

If you have an ATI graphics card/chip...some say that you don't need to install CCC.

I have a history of ATI cards/chipsets and I always install the full package because the card/chip works properly and I don't care about the fact that I don't ever use CCC.

Any drivers installed by Windows by default will work...but for optimum use of the graphics function, you probably need to install the drivers provided by the system or motherboard manufacturer.

Anytime an O/S is reinstalled...all previous system files are flushed.  Of course, a clean install fllushes everything.

Is anyone using the ATi Vista 64-bit SouthBridge drivers in Windows 7 64-bit? If so, have you noticed any improvement/degradation? Thanks in advance.

A:Using Vista 64-bit SB Drivers on Windows 7 64

Haven't really noticed anything one way or the other, other than all my drives are running a few MB/s faster with the ATI chipset over the previous NF4 board I had.

One thing to remember is the the SB driver will be included occasionally in the Catalyst suite. Don't hold me to it but I believe the last time it updated was in the Cat 9.7; not sure about the 9.8, but do know that there was no SB driver in the 9.9.

I have an Inspiron desktop running Windows Vista. What is the right formula for figuring out if all my Drivers are current. I know that when there is a yellow symbol next to the Hardware device that there is a problem. Is it important to go to the Dell website and install the Drivers that are stated to be Urgent. Is there any driver scanning programs that you recommend. I used Driver Agent and it detected that I needed to update a few drivers. I went ahead and did this, and when I scanned again it said I needed to update the same drivers. I have tried to update via Windows looking for the driver automatically, but it always says that I have the most current driver.

I have had some issues with the BSOD whilst browsing the Internet and listening to Itunes. The error code is 0X0000007A. Do you think this error code is driver related?

Hi This is Using Vista Windows for 7 drivers a HP s notebook and HP didn't release Windows drivers for it If you check this list on HP's official webpage it has all the drivers for this notebook This computer did came with Vista So far I thought of plans Let see - Option A Revert to Vista All drivers are for Vista bit so the driver problem would be solved But I don't really want Vista as is better - Option B Use Windows with ALL the Vista drivers Probably in compatibility mode when required I'd prefer Option B but I'm interested in your opinions I wonder if there are advantages of using Vista on this computer instead of I know it's possible to use Vista Using Vista drivers for Windows 7 drivers on Windows You probably have more experience on this than I do Are they usually OK Are problems common Is it recommended at all We have already discussed the graphics driver HERE as multiple graphics drivers are available on HP's website but all the other Using Vista drivers for Windows 7 drivers are for Vista too

My experience is a bit different, I just changed from Vista HB 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 1525. The oem driver for the wan card was the only difficult one. Chip set and gpu I used Intel supplied drivers. The touch pad and peripherals all work with Microsoft drivers installed with the OS. I did have to use oem drivers for the card reader. I did struggle finding a wan driver that worked, but when I used the right search term it was a piece of cake.

It depends. I have vista drivers for my ATI TV Tuner Pro 6500 and they work fine under Windows 7.

If you do decide to try the vista drivers on W7 make sure you get the 64-bit version, seeing how you're moving to W7 x64.

1) I have Dell XPS M1530 laptop. My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium. I had to reinstall the OS. Some drivers did not get installed. I manually installed the drivers from the 'divers' CD, but 'Biometric Co-porcessor' driver did not get installed. I do not know how to find this driver on the CD, so that I can manually install it. I shall appreciate any help in this.

2) I do not have SP1 and SP2 installed. It seems that one has to buy these now from microsoft. Should I wait for windows 7 to become available and then upgrade to windows 7, rather than buy and install the two SPs? I have not been very happy with my present OS. It is much worse than xp in terms of the occurence of blue screens and crashes. Is windows 7 a significant improvement over my present OS?

Thank you for your help.

Hi all,

Is it a good idea to Install vista 64 bit motherboard drivers in windows seven?

I have asus p5w dh deluxe motherboard.

Windows Seven is running ok, but the harddisk score is a good deal less when compared to vista.

So, is this a good idea or better leave it alone at the moment?

thx

A:Installing vista 64 bit motherboard drivers in windows seven?

Hi Boris, well the HDD score shows a really low score because of Write Caching being enabled on the drive. If you disable write caching and re run your wei, it will show a normal score. It has some problem recognizing it in 7. But it's usually better to have it enabled, as it gives better performance with the drive.

Hi, by default the Driver for the Devices will be in C:\Windows\WINSXS and C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore. Try to Install the Drivers from these Locations.

As you have mentioned you using 64BIT OS verify that the drivers are Digitally Signed

If you do not have the right Drivers then you are messing up with your Computer.

Hey Everyone,

I am running Windows Vista, on an HP Pavilion DV4 (I'm sure you know about the glitchy touch panel on this thing, yes?) and my Audio Drivers keep crashing. I'm wondering if someone can walk me through how to properly repair them?

So far, I have (tried to?) uninstall IDT audio manager, and download new drivers.

I noticed I have two audio drivers in my device manager, and want some help as to what to do with them to get my physical speakers working.

My speakers have most often crashed when I launch world of tanks, but today they are not working on boot.

It should be noted that, on screen, my speakers show as on and turned up, but the touch button on my laptop is orange, meaning it's muted... no sound plays.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello All,
I have a HP Pavillion laptop which has Windows Vista preinstalled. I want to downgrade to Windows XP. I contacted HP and they told they dont support as HP doesent have drivers for Windows XP. So I wanted to know a list of components on my system, the drivers needed and where I can find those drivers, so that I can do the downgrading by myself.

-
I Hate Vista

A:Downgrade to Windows XP from Vista, Want to know all drivers and where to find them.

Many HP Pavilion computers, both laptop and desktop, do not provide drivers to downgrade from VISTA to WXP. When they do, they are listed on the HP web site.
Otherwise, you have to get the part numbers and chip numbers off each device, then do a search at the various driver sites.
Sometimes with HP, there is no alternate driver for XP.

I'm having this really weird problem.

I am currently running a GeForce 9500 GT on vista and have tried upgrading to Windows 7 release candidate 1 from Vista. The problem is, Windows 7 doesn't like the Nvidia drivers I have on my system. So I uninstalled them. Completely. Restarted. Tried the upgrade again, and boom! Still can't upgrade because Nvidia drivers / nview desktop manager (yes, that is what it says).

I have literally restarted my computer 20 times, uninstalling, reinstalling and whateverinstalling. I have no idea what to do in order to upgrade to windows 7. The drivers or my actual hardware is not letting me upgrade.

Has anyone had this problem?
Just looking for some advice...

Hi: You need to install the latest nvidia chipset driver from the link below and restart the PC. That will also update the ethernet controller driver so you can upgrade to W7. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14875/en-us As for the second issue, unfortunately I don't know what that is. It could be what you said it might be. There is a new program that is called the HP support assistant, which might do the same thing. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html#.Vy3_qeT2bGg

A:Can't find drivers after downgrading from vista to windows xp

Welcome to TSF....

Since there has been a clean installation of Windows there are special drivers that have to be installed in order for the computer to run and function properly the drivers that are from the different manufacturers for their devices can be installed after these are. The special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others, can be found on the Recovery Disk Set that comes with the computer or on-line in the Support area usually under Drivers and Downloads area [if it is an OEM like Compaq, Dell etc. or found on the motherboard manufacturers site for the computer. These drivers can be downloaded thru any computer and then burned to a separate CD-R for future installation and also for keeping them so you do not have to download them again. There is no specific order that they should be installed in but my own personal preference is in this order:
Chipset Drivers First, Buss Drivers Second, Video Display Drivers Third, Network Drivers Fourth, Audio Drivers Fifth and all others needed afterwards.
Computer Motherboard and Chipset Drivers Found Thru Internet Fixes these are not the Computer Manufacturer drivers.
http://www.internetfixes.com/IF01057.htm
In the list you might find a BIOS upgrade that has to have a procedure called, “Flashing” done to install this. This should be done with great care if the Flashing is not successful then you will end up with a useless computer and a service call to the manufacturer of the computer tech support may be in order to get the proper repair fix for this I would not use this particular file unless It is absolutely necessary. .

A:Acer web cam drivers

Welcome to SevenForums,

Do you know which Brand is your Acer WebCam???

Chicony, Suyin?? When you'll find the brand download at acer support site the right software for your camera.:

Service & Support

For exemple on Windows Ultimate x64 for Acer Aspire 5536 found on Acer Site:

-Camera Chicony Camera Driver (Crystal Eye) 1.1.74.216 (2.8 MB) 2009/10/23
-Camera Suyin Camera Driver 5.2.7. (13.3 MB) 2009/10/23

1) You will have to uninstall first from the Control Panel=> Programs & Functions, the Acer Camera software listed. Reboot, windows 7 will recognize the device then install the new software.

2) More complicated:

Go in your Contol Panel=>Device Manager (screenshot), right click and Uninstall the" HD Video WebCam".

Reboot your computer and see if its reinstall the new device detected.

If so, reinstall the proper Acer software from the support site.

Whats "drivers pack for windows vista" ? I have seen "drivers pack for windows vista" available for download (I dont remember the site name but I noted this term). Is this "drivers pack" different from the drivers being installed with the installation of windows vista ?

hey guys,

a week ago I rebooted my system and suddenly there was a little red x over the sound icon in the taskbar. my sound drivers were suddenly no more!

So I re-installed them, but this is a pain as the drivers arn't digitally signed and I just get a pop up message that prevents me from properly installing them.

though when I reboot most times, the sound drivers are restored!! though I boot up my pc and the drivers are missing again!

my sound is built into my mobo (asus a8n32-sli deluxe socket989) and its the realtek ac97 audio. my OS is windows vista 64-bit HE.

Does anyone know why windows keeps wiping these drivers? I have tried to install the latest version but none of these drivers are digitally signed and the warning popup just prevents the installation from finishing even if I ignor it.

cheers

Two problems that occur when I install Windows Vista, and prevent me from using it, is the availability for sound drivers and my microphone not working.

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2. I tried installing drivers for it, but I kept encountering errors when installing it. Perhaps I did it wrong or in the wrong order. But it said it could not detect that card. In the end I got it to work, but without the ability to use my microphone (not usb).

Can anyone direct me to the drivers I need to use for my sound card, with the capability of working on Vista, with the ability to use my microphone?

Thank you, I appreciate your ability to anyone that can help.

You would have to uninstall the existing version and if needed, try to install the CD using compatibility mode.

Have one question, When I installed Windows 7 the only drivers I have installed were my video and audio which are not part of the motherboard (not onboard). My computer runs fine but 1 game but more or less I never installed any driver for my motherboard. Normally you install the motherboards nforce drivers, raid SATA/IDE drivers etc... Do I need to go back to my motherboard vendor and find updates for windows 7 or just leave it they way it is, or should I install the drivers off the motherboard CD I have here? My mobo doesn't have any windows 7 updates btw there all windowsXP based drivers.

A:windows drivers vs vendor drivers

If you did a boot drive format and install of Win7 you'll need to go to the mobo makers website and download the latest drivers from there. You might also need a BIOS flash, but I hesitate to mention that as only the very experienced should do it. We'll need full system specs to help any further.

I've recently been having various issues with my pc, among the things I tried to do was update my graphics card driver: found the newest driver crashed madly, and rolled back. It's brought to mind a simple question:

What benefits are there in going for the newer ATI Catalyst drivers compared to the one defaulted by windows but which hasn't updated in 3 years.

Generally what could have changed? Compatablity? If it works it works. Stablity? Performance? Heat management?

Since it takes me 2 hours to download a driver (slow connection) I'm sticking on my w7 default ones: I know they work. It does make me ask though if there is a benefit to upgading after i've got my PC stable again.

A:Windows Drivers vs ATI Catalyst Drivers

newer drivers are made to improve performance and add new features in the graphic control panel and fixes bugs and issues that were in the previous drivers.

I recently upgraded this old Dell M Vista x laptop to Windows Enterprise x Apparently the sound company for it Sigmatel went out of business before Windows was even released and their latest drivers are some ancient Vista drivers Should I download and install the Sigmatel drivers or continue to use the drivers that come with Windows They seem to be fine so far just seeing if there's any Windows old drivers the download or drivers? the I keep Should other input on this Do you think that the Windows drivers would probably be better based on Should I download the old drivers or keep the Windows drivers? the fact that they're much newer and made to run in regardless of the fact that it wasn't made for my system specifically All I've ever really cared about is what has the best maximum output levels I really hate sound drivers that are very limited in how loud you can make them output My old laptop this M is actually better than my current Origin beast laptop in terms of sound because the sound driver on my new laptop Realtek doesn't allow very much loudness at all on a set of headphones The only reason I ever liked the Sigmatel drivers is because they let you turn up the volume until it's so loud it could blow your ears and your speakers out Or perhaps it's hardware and has nothing to do with the drivers I dunno I'm too stupid Point is drivers that came with my system that aren't designed to work with this OS or go with the Win default drivers

A:Should I download the old drivers or keep the Windows drivers?

There is a saying, "if it's not broke, don't fix it" so I would stick with the working one. You could save the old driver as a backup.

Am rebuilding an Acer 3680 laptop with Windows XP - am having problems with one driver - the Network Controller.

I've tried downloading most of the drivers on http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3680.html but am worried about "over installing" with drivers though.

Any ideas??

Ok so I googled around and such, nothing but people asking about it and no help. Ok so it does work, on stuff like msn. Now normally on xp it showed the camera in my computer. It does not. The last time I had w7 on this it was rc2 and bsod'd. Seems fine now, but still the cam problem. Is there anything I can do? Maybe a program that can take it over? Really looking for drivers for w7 for it. The model of laptop should not matter as my moms emachines and my Acer aspire ONE both have the same acer crystal eye cam and the same drivers worked, doesn't show for either of us. Drivers for mine only exist for XP but worked fine. Hers have vista but still not showing in my computer.

Again it does work on msn so its not as if its not working period.

A:acer crystal eye drivers

The cam probably won't ever show in My Computer. It is not recognized as a network location or storage. This is normal, and nothing to worry about. Try going to Control Panel>Devices and Printers instead.

Anyone know where I can get windows 7 drivers for an Acer Aspire M3202 desktop? I currently have no internet connection so windows cannot find them automatically for me. I assume that is because I am missing drivers and not because the Windows 7 download is somehow faulty. I just know that whenever I was in the middle of the installation process Windows 7 would not accept my wifi's pass key. And I know its correct, because I'm the one who created it.

A:Need help locating Acer Drivers

Acer | Download is the closest I can get you. Acer does not add the model to the address. You'll have to go there and drill down through Desktop....Aspire....M3202... Win7 64 on that page.

You might try hardwiring your machine to your router.

I just installed windows xp onto my new acer 3680 and i need the drivers can someone help me i already tryed acers site but no luck i perferbly need the wireless card drivers or ethernet port drivers

A:acer 3680 drivers?

Download this PDF file and open in Adobe Reader:
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/AcerDrivers/Aspire 3680.pdf?CFID=3405023&CFTOKEN=72618974

Find the file you are looking for in the document, right click on it and select "open web link in browser" (If you're not using Firefox, the exact selection my be different.). A downlog dialog will start.

Side Note: Acer is a low-price leader; but, low price is all they lead in. Their tech support is almost non-existent to none at all at times. This arcane method of obtaining drivers is just one example of their best help. Good luck.
