Realtek Driver replaced with "High Definition Audio Device"

Q: Realtek Driver replaced with "High Definition Audio Device"

Hello. I just recently updated my Lenovo Y530 Ideapad to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 from Windows Vista Home Premium x64. After I updated my laptop, I went to adjust the sound and I noticed that I had 3 sound devices that all said Speakers. I then went to the Device Manager and saw that under the Sound, video, and game controllers tab that one of the sound drivers said "High Definition Audio Device". Before upgrading to Windows 7, the driver said it was a Realtek driver. I have tried to get back the Realtek driver, however, when it finishes installing I end up with no sound. Is there anyway I can get back my Realtek drivers?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Download the latest Realtek driver.
Realtek

Or, you can get the Lenovo older driver, which may be more compatible with your hardware.

Hi,
I have a Dell Laptop (Inspiron 5558 Signature Edition) Windows 10.

Recently I turned on my laptop to find a red 'X' on my audio. I tried to fix this by downloading a new driver, but instead of having one 'High Definition Audio Device' and one 'Realtek', I now have two High Definition Audio Devices and the Realtek one is completely gone.

I don't know what Realtek Driver I had before and I don't know how to fix this.

My audio now has an echo and some audio comes out of my speakers rather than my headphones, even when I have my headphones plugged in.

How do I find out what Realtek Audio Driver I had before and how do I replace one of my High Definition Audio Devices with it?

Hello EmeraldBlue.

Considering that you have W10 Home 64-Bit you should really have posted this at our sister forum:
Ten Forums

However I can tell you that your audio device is Realtek ALC3234, I mean you can of course download the audio driver from Dell Support site:

Hello,

I got a BSOD about a week ago, and finally finished reinstalling Windows XP, SP2, all my games, updating the system and my MoBo boot disk. After all this, I am getting a yellow exclamation point on "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". I have downloaded all the driver updates, according to what Microsoft and a few other tech sites have suggested would fix it. But, regardless, it still has that !. I am getting sound through my headset, but nothing through my speakers.

I'm pretty sure I just have an on-board soundcard. Here are my specs-
Motherboard- S-Series Support AMD Socket AM2 M61P-S3 from Gigabyte Tech
Chipset- AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 Dual Core
VidCard- NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
RAM-Not sure exact brand and all, pretty sure it 2GB of Corsair with Heat Sink.

Hope that about covers it!

Hi everyone I would be very grateful for some help please My laptop recently installed a BIOS update - I don't know what this was but since it happened I have been having sound problems with my laptop After the update I had no sound I read around and found how to get the sound back on - I did this by uninstalling AMD high definition audio device and high definition audio device I definition realtek problem and device high audio high definition audio would then restart the laptop and the sound would be working again But when the laptop would be turned off on turning back on it would re-install the above things again automatically and the sound would no longer work I noticed that when the sound was working realtek high definition audio was listed under sound video and game controllers in the device manager and when it wasn't working this wasn't there Every time I uninstalled the AMD high definition audio device and high definition audio device the realtek realtek high definition audio and high definition audio device problem one would be automatically installed when the laptop was restarted but then taken off on the next restart I tried disabling the first realtek high definition audio and high definition audio device problem to see if that made any difference but it didn't I realtek high definition audio and high definition audio device problem noticed the drivers could be removed for the AMD high definition audio device so I tried that - that is now fully removed but I still have the problem with sound My laptop keeps automatically installing high definition audio device When this is listed the sound doesn't work and the realtek high definition audio isn't listed When I uninstall that - on the first restart the realtek high definition audio is listed again and the sound works but on turning the laptop off I have to go through the whole process again as the high definition audio device is listed again and no sound Please could anyone advice me how I can sort this out Is there a way I can stop the high defintion audio device from installing on restart so that the realtek high definition audio remains along with my sound Disabling the high defintion audio doesn't make any difference Thank you for any help

A:realtek high definition audio and high definition audio device problem

First, the AMD High Definition Audio Device is ONLY for HDMI audio. It has nothing to do with the PC audio (speakers and/or headset).

Are you sure it was a BIOS update? Those are normally not automatic. The BIOS is the heart of the PC and controls the hardware configurations.

The basic Windows installed High Definition Audio Coded/Device is a generic audio driver. It can be installed for the PC audio and/or the HDMI audio. As this is a generic, basic function driver, the correct hardware driver needs to be installed.

Without the actual HP model number, I can't research what actually belongs on your PC. Apparently it is RealTek, but as it isn't functioning properly, or conflicting I still need to research the PC's specs.

A:WASAPI is not working for Win7 "Speakers High Definition Audio Device

The default Windows installed "HD Audio Codec" is only a basic function sound driver and does not offer all the features that regular (e.g. Realtek) drivers do.

The preferred sound driver for a PC is either the PC Vendor's sound driver or in the case of a custom built system, the motherboard vendor's drivers.

What is the Problem know please can anyone help me ?

A:5.1 Sound doesnt work at Realtek High Definition Audio Device

Do you have the VIA HD Audio Deck installed with your sound driver. It may be in the control panel, systray or not installed. It should be compatible with your realtek onboard audio. I usually have more luck using this to configure my speaker setup than windows as in may versions it supports jack switching.

A:No Sound on PC (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver)

So today i downloaded Assassins Creed 1 and proceeded to install. The installation worked fine and when i click the Assassins Creed Icon on my desktop i get this message:

"Your Sound-Driver is currently used by an other application. Close any application using your Sound-Driver and try again... else you'll not be able to hear and sounds or musics."

I looked in Device manager under the 'Sound' tab and my sound drivers are working fine. I have sound and haven't even had a sound problem since i got this PC. I thought it might have been the download but i downloaded a bunch of different ones and i keep getting the same message. Any help would be amazing. Here are my specs:

Manufacturer: Acer
Model: Aspire V3-571
RAM: 6GB
System type: 64 bit

I don't see how re-installing my sound drivers would fix this problem because everything works fine... so instead of suggesting that lets try something else.

Hi

I recently installed the program, Driver Sweeper, which picked up a problem with my audio driver, Realtek High Definition Audio after my speakers had been making some static sounds while playing audio. After running Driver Sweeper and cleaning the driver I restarted the computer.

When I returned to windows my driver had been uninstalled. Windows ran a troubleshooter when I clicked on the volume controls. Then it automatically installed the same driver back again. My speakers continue to make the same sounds after this and if I run Driver Sweeper again the same thing happens again. I'm not sure whether I should install a different audio driver or something.

Thanks for the help

Windows 7 64-bit I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor My audio is working, but I'm getting "popping" noises every 15-30 seconds and it's really bothering me. I updated to the latest driver for Realtek AC'97 and I insalled the Realtek HD Audio drivers, but only the AC'97 shows up in the device manager. When I got to add/remove programs, it shows that HD Audio can be uninstalled, but I don't know if that means it's working. From reading around on the internet, some people said the HD Audio driver solved their problem, but I'm not sure if mine is actually working or not. I don't know much about computers, so please spell things out explicitly for me so I can just follow directions.

I don't know if "No is Audio Laptop/RealTek Asus Device Output Installed" any of this is related but I wanted to provide as much information as I could for you Asus Laptop/RealTek "No Audio Output Device is Installed" gurus to deal with So here's what happened I left my ASUS K A laptop in sleep mode I opened the lid to wake it up Asus Laptop/RealTek "No Audio Output Device is Installed" logged in and then everything started to load really slowly This hasn't happened before and the computer quickly BSOD'd in that new Windows fashion It restarted and scanned repaired my D drive again in a very slow manner It took maybe minutes just to get to the login screen as opposed to maybe a minute I login and again everything's very slow This time I just hit the power button and reset the laptop that way hoping it'd fix things Unfortunately the same thing happens After doing this about or more times each time spending about to minutes I just let it run after I log in I manage to click the quot Restart quot option on the side after waiting eons for it to respond to my clicks I get it to load and it booted up normally Or so I thought My D drive was suddenly inaccessible and my little volume speaker at the bottom right had the red X beside it saying quot No Audio Output Device is Installed quot I spend another billion years trying to fix my D drive changing permissions and allowing full control and eventually getting full access again most likely with some unknown ramifications I found out after that although my C drive didn't suffer from the same problem as my D drive the C drive would keep asking me for my permission when I moved things around there even though it was never like that before all of this I do the same thing I did with the D drive and seemingly fixed the issue My next focus was on the sound I made the mistake of not checking my Device Manager before I blindly reinstalled a Realtek driver I don't think it made a difference but I'll never know now Anyway I downloaded a Realtek HD Audio driver that should've been compatible with my system but I couldn't get it to finish installing as it ended every installation that I tried with some error code x I go into Device Manager and see two icons with the exclamation marks beside them quot Intel R Display Audio quot and quot Audio Device on High Definition Bus quot The quot Intel R Display Audio quot was under the normal quot Sound video and game controllers quot but the quot Audio Device on High Definition Bus quot was found under quot Other Devices quot So I just uninstall the quot Audio Device on High Definition Bus quot since I've read that sometimes you need to uninstall in order to reinstall something After I uninstall I manage to successfully install a compatible Realtek HD Audio Driver However it still wouldn't give me sound after I restarted my computer as it prompted me to On top of that there was no Realtek HD Audio Driver or anything similar found under quot Sound video and game controllers quot Only quot Intel R Display Audio quot was there and apparently that wasn't working either After uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times I just uninstalled quot Intel R Display Audio quot out of frustration which then led to TWO quot Audio Device on High Definition Bus quot under quot Other Devices quot I go into msinfo and under quot Problem Devices quot there's the two quot Audio Devices on High Definition Bus quot and they have the error code that says quot This device is not configured correctly quot I also don't have anything under quot Sound Device quot I don't know what to do Did my sound card just burn out during the whole D drive Scan Repair fiasco Edit I forgot to add that I've tried the quot Adding Scanning Legacy Hardware quot but I might have done it incorrectly or something because it was unable to successfully install find anything

A:Asus Laptop/RealTek "No Audio Output Device is Installed"

From your description, I'm going to suggest what I try to avoid at all costs. Do a complete reinstall. I know its a hassle but sometimes its what is needed.

Backup your user data to some external media (USB flash drive, CD/DVD media, etc) first as the reinstall will wipe it all out. Then do the reinstall, using the recovery mode that I assume ASUS has (most PC vendors have a recovery partition on the hard drive that will allow restoring to the original factory condition).

OK you probably thought of this first thing but don't laugh when I ask: after the clean install, did your friend run the motherboard disk for his machine? Because the AC97 drivers are on that cd. He should disable it in "devices' and install the driver from the mobo cd and then enable it again and reboot. Should have sound. Only other thing is it could be disabled in the bios - you could check that too.

That dxdiag "no sound card" message is misleading as I've found it says that if no driver OR sound card. I think you're missing the right driver

Also, it would seem from your post you have High Definition (HD) audio. Which means you'll need to find the right High Definition audio driver. (AC97 pre-dates HD audio so the Realtek AC97 couldn't be right)

Try starting on the HP support website HERE and enter your model number or they have a button where they'll try to identify your product and drivers for your model. They should list an HD audio driver there

I'm not exactly sure how it happened but I lost my sound.

I installed the High Def Audio Codecs from the Realtek website and executed that - nothing.
I uninstalled the device and went to add new devices - it found the device, and still didnt work.
The exact description of the problem is -
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
Theres a ton of things in the sound, video and game controllers that have yellow exclamation marks by them. And I need the sound before I go back to college.
Someone please help!

A:Realtek & high definition audio?

You should either "rollback" the drivers to RealTek or reinstall RealTek. Usually, the "High Definition Audio" is a generic driver that Windows (Microsoft) provides. Do not allow Windows to automatically update/install the sound driver (some of the other drivers are OK).

If you want to try the rollback first, to to the Device Manager, and the properties for the sound device. Click the Driver Tab and then Click the Roll Back button.

I think my question is this how do I set up VSX- a Pioneer AVR in Control Panel Sound and Hardware Sound so that its driver is Realtek HD Audio and not the Intel Display Audio one In Device Manager under Sound Video and game controllers I have two sound card drivers Realtek High Definition and Intel Display Audio I don't understand Audio Realtek Definition and High Intel Display Audio how Realtek High Definition Audio drivers work in relation to the Intel Display Audio drivers If I go to Control Panel Hardware and Sound Sound then Playback there are four options as you can see from the picture below I'm guessing that if I choose Realtek High Definition Audio and Intel Display Audio the receiver as my default device that I'm using the Intel Display Audio drivers and any of the other three options that I'm using the Realtek drivers Is this correct If the receiver is the default device everything works fine I Realtek High Definition Audio and Intel Display Audio get sound from sites like cnn com and I can listen to internet radio etc However if Speakers are the default device I don't get sound Is this normal If so what's the reason for having Realtek If it isn't normal will I notice a difference if I use the Realtek drivers If I would see hear a difference how do I get them to work

A:Realtek High Definition Audio and Intel Display Audio

The RealTek is for the regular PC sound. The Intel Display Audio is for HDMI sound. If an HDMI cable is plugged in Windows will automatically default to the HDMI as the "default playback device". If you have an HDMI cable plugged in and want the PC sound you must manually change the playback device. If you want both HDMI and PC audio, you can't have that as Windows will only allow one default audio playback device.

Does this answer the question?

I have a new Dell PC that has Realtek High Definition Audio. As best as I can describe it, while watching videos or in a game, it periodically and with no particular intervals of time, will momentarily (no more than a second) pause and I'll hear a buzz. It then carries on as if nothing had happened. There is no rhyme nor reason to when this happens. Any ideas?

A:Realtek High Definition Audio problem

That sounds like what a bad speaker or speaker connection would do. Do you have a headphone you can connect to the headphone jack (or the rear GREEN speaker jack) and see if does it with the headphone? That would help to isolate the problem.

We have also seen audio problems caused by wi-fi or a cell phone or cordless phone close to the PC/speakers.

I Definition Audio problems RealTek High hope this is the right subforum for this I ve just recently gotten a new computer and installed Windows bit on it I m using an ASUS P X D-E motherboard with RealTek High Definition Audio Codec My problem is that my computer seems to only be recognising devices plugged into one audio jack Basically when I started the computer up the speakers which were already plugged in to the green port as normal worked fine and indeed they still work fine now However if I plug headphones or a microphone in to any of the other ports it says you have plugged a device into the audio jack but nothing actually happens - headphones are silent my microphone doesn t receive any sound The front two jacks don t even make that message pop up - nothing happens at all If I unplug my speakers and plug my headphones in to that jack they seem to work - but obviously that s less than ideal So it s as if this one jack works and none of the others do My microphone doesn t work when plugged into that jack of RealTek High Definition Audio problems course I ve tried reinstalling the drivers from CD updating the drivers through windows updating the drivers from the RealTek website reinstalling windows etc No change at all Any ideas nbsp

A:RealTek High Definition Audio problems

Each port has it's own use. Check the motherboard User Manual for specifics.

With that said, the "green" port is the standard audio out port. This is where you would connect your speakers or headphones to hear the audio. It is a standard stereo output or in multi-channel mode, the front left/right.

Did the front panel ports ever work? They need to be connected to the proper outputs on the motherboard.

If they have worked in the past and/or they are properly connected, then you most likely have a driver issue. Several of the Realtek chipsets do not work well with Win7, especially 64bit.

Hi There ,

I just reformatted my Gateway NV54 laptop with windows Vista on it.
My sound is working fine but my microphone is not working at all. I have tried both the inbuilt mic and an external one.
I downloaded the latest audio driver from http://support.gateway.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=2376 which is the conexant 4.98.9.0. (x84)

When I run the driver setup it just says "Driver installation failed: Could not find the device for this driver."
I am confused because as far as I know because my sound is working that means my audio driver working?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could not find the device for this driver

That error message suggests to me that you're trying to install the wrong driver for that sound device.
Please double-check on the Gateway website, there may be a choice of two or more audio drivers for that model, depending on what hardware was available at the factory when your laptop was assembled.

If there is a choice, you may have downloaded the wrong one or selected a laptop model which is not exactly the same as yours.

A:Realtek High Definition Audio Troubles - Not Detecting Anything

High Definition Audio Device suggests a generic Windows installed sound driver rather than the RealTek driver.

Make sure you are getting the correct driver, either Vista or Windows 7 for 64 bit OS, from the PC or motherboard vendor's site. Windows XP drivers are not compatible. If you get the warning on a valid driver, click the Install anyway and it should install.

Hello,

Recently, I installed this Windows XP Professional SP2 on my comp. Once done, I am not been able to install my audio drivers for Realtek High Definition Audio. I couldn't understand what the problem is. Before, they were working fine, now since I had re-installed the Windows again, the whole thing came into being. I had done reinstalling the Windows several times now.

The drivers for the device are installed. But it says the device cannot start.[Code 10].

I had done loads of things, such as :

1. Reinstalling the drivers after uninstalling the same.
2. Rebooting as appropriate.
3. Surf through different sites to check, what best I can do, to tackle the whole thing. But nothing so far.

Hopefully someone be able to tell me, what to do.....

I need my sound back, as my work is completely hung up without it.....

Thankx......

Hi, I recently upgraded my Yoga 2 Pro to Windows 10 and was excited to try Cortana but unfortunately I could not get it to recognize my voice. It turns out that the microphone level with the Windows 10 Realtek High Definition Audio drivers is abismally low. This also causes a problem with Skype and Google Hangouts. I have tried every driver I could find (Realtek.tw, Microsoft Updates catalog server, etc) and none of them resolved the problem. I also tried the "generic" High Definition Audio driver and that also did not work. Has anyone else experieced this problem and if so, has anyone found a solution? Thanks.

Hey! I am desperate for help, my sound stopped working suddenly - I don't even get the windows start-up sound anymore. I have tried upating drivers and that did not work, i think i see my problem: I have attached a capture of my sound screen from the control panel. It says my speakers are not plugged in but i use an HDMI cable to my monitor which is also my speakers and my monitor works fine.

THANKS!!!

Get your thinking caps on, this ones a cracker!

I recently purchased a second-hand Intel D915GAG Motherboard to replace a dead board, and everything has gone perfectly until it came to installing audio drivers for the Realtek High Definition Audio, which is on-board.
The drivers installed without a problem, and Device manager reports that the device is working properly, and that the drivers are up-to-date.
However, the Sounds and Audio Devices properties are telling me different, claiming that no audio device is installed! Only Device manager seems to know the audio drivers are there. I have tried everything i can think of, but have hit the wall....so any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
I have an Acer Aspire 5315 with Windows Vista. Around two weeks ago my computer started saying that there is no audio device installed. I went to Acer's website and downloaded the Realtek sound download for my model and operating system. When I ran it, it said "no drivers found" or "no driveres supported" (I'm sorry I can't remember which). So I deleted the file and downloaded it again and all it did was open the file and display the contents instead of running it automatically. Also, when I go to the control panel and look under sound it still tells me there is no audio device installed.

I don't know much about drivers. Honestly, I don't really know what a driver is or does. I've just been going on answers other people with "no audio device installed" questions have gotten. Can somebody please help me?

A:Problem with Audio Driver "No audio device installed"

Mel: When the file displayed its contents, did you look to see if there was a "Setup.exe" file?
If there is one, double click it and it should load the drivers.
Also, look in Device Manager for any yellow ? marks.

Hey I Realtek? 8-Channel Definition Quiet High Very ALC887 Audio have the Logitech LS speakers I know they are cheap speakers When I first set them up I was actually very impressed with the volume and quality of Realtek? ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio Very Quiet the sound and bass Realtek? ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio Very Quiet It was enough to fill my modest sized room with loud clear sound and rich base when listening to music I had them connected to the audio jack on my ASUS M A L LE using the Realtek audio described in the title At some point I chose to reinstall Windows I installed and updated all the drivers etc and set the speakers up the same way as before Only this time the audio was around of the volume it was previously with volume up full In games it's barely audible at all unless I put my ear to one of the speakers I first tried using different Realtek drivers including the ones shipped with the motherboard the latest on the ASUS web site as well as the latest from Realtek's site All of these drivers yield the same results I also tried tweaking many settings in Windows and with Realtek's audio manager Nothing seems to raise the volume So I decided to test the speakers out without the Realtek audio Plugging the jack directly into my monitor and using an AMD HDMI Driver Surprisingly the speakers were now much much louder However without the use of the sound card the audio became quite distorted when the volume or base was raised And in general just wasn't as good quality I'd like to get back the loud clear sound and deep base I had originally but I do not know what else to try Any theories suggestions help or advise would be greatly appreciated

What do you show in the Device Manager, for sound devices? You should only have two, the AMD HDMI and the RealTek. If you have the generic Windows installed HD Audio Codec, uninstall that, then restart the PC and see if that changes anything.

Assuming you have a Win 7 (or Vista) RealTek driver installed.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there were some type of corruption between RealTek and Windows this will fix it.

It still says that I am missing the "audio device on high definition audio bus". Shouldn't the file at the above link take care of the problem? Anyone know where I could find the driver I need?

A:audio device on high definition audio bus missing for xp pro on lenovo t61 pc

bad thing about IBM's website is they sometimes post more than one driver. Look through the list to see if there are anymore audio drivers for Xp listed.

I could look, but IBM's site needs the unit type in order to look for drivers/manuals. 4 diget number on the white sticker on bottom of the laptop. for example

- ThinkPad R61(type):
- 7732, 7733, 7735, 7736, 7737, 7738, 7742
- 7743, 7751, 7753, 7754, 7755
- 8914, 8918, 8919, 8920, 8927, 8928, 8929
- 8942, 8943, 8944, 8945, 8947, 8948, 8949

those are laptop types that IBM uses, am sure you noticed that on the page you linked :)

Hi everyone i have big problem..... so i have an high definition audio bus and i want to uninstall it but i cant when i uninstalled then rebooted my computer windows automaticly installs them again so i cant install other sound drivers bicause that "high definition audio bus" keeps installing it.

I was in the start > change device installation settings > and it dont give any help it still installing that driver again and again my computer is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit please if somebody can help!

A:Win 7 high definition audio device problem

I had the same problem with my Epson printer. Even changing auto driver settings didn`t help.

Solution: Uninstalled the drivers, then re installed the drivers and software I wanted, then rebooted windows and it didn`t need to install anything else.
Don`t reboot just uninstall, install, THEN reboot, see what happens.

You do have the drivers you want to install ready to go, correct ?

Hi, My laptop in question is a HP Elitebook 8440p Just upgraded to Windows 10 Pro x64, and I've managed to find drivers for all but one device.  Under >> Sound, video and game controllers  - "High Definition Audio Device" It has a Hardware ID of:HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2804&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000 I've already tried installing:- IDT Audio Drivers- LSI High-Definition Audio (HDA) Modem- Intel Chipset Installation Utility None of the above has gotten rid of the yellow exclamation mark off the device under the device manager view. I had a few other devices where Win 10 didn't install by default, and for those Win 7 drivers seems to work fine, so I'm assuming the same will be true with the one above - I just need to know what to install... Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi: You need to manually install the Intel HDMI audio driver from the W7 Intel HD graphics driver from your notebook's support page. Here's how to do that without messing up your graphics driver... First download and install this free file utility...1st file on the list is for 64 bit. http://www.7-zip.org/ Next, download and save the Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support page.  Do not run it. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4095873&swItemId=ob_127914_1&swEnvOid=4059#tab1 After you download the above driver file, right click on it and select 7-zip from the list. Have 7-zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp64360). Once that is done, go to the device manager and click on the HD audio device needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder 7-zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install. Then reboot.

Sound works on Win XP (multibooted) but not on Win 7 RC1.
I do not know which sound card my computer is using.
I have a Samsung Sens Q35 laptop.
When I click on the sound icon on the tray on the bottom right, the only device that is listed is Digital Audio (S/PDIF)
When I go to the device manager, it says High Definition Audio Device.
It's version 6.1.7100.0

A:No sound (High definition audio device)

I am having the exact same problem.

Works fine in XP, boot into 7 and it detects a high definition audio device and automatically installs. But the only audio device selectable is a Digital audio S/PDIF and I'm sure i don't have the connections/speakers for that.

The mixer is showing sounds coming through but I don't have a digital decoder (not sure if my terminology is correct)

Any solutions/ similar problems ? I've been searching for about a week with no luck.

So far i've tried installing the drivers that came with the mobo, the latest drivers for vista/windows x64 and disabling enabling uninstalling. Even going to the bios and searching for audio options in there (only able to set HD Audio to Auto or Disable)

please help

Hi
I have just booted up my Acer Aspire One 725 laptop to find that the sound icon has a red cross next to it and it claims that 'No speakers or headphones are plugged in'. In the Control Panel it states that the AMD High Definition Audio Device is Not Plugged In.

As far as I know, I've done nothing to cause this.
I have already tried:
Download Realtek High Definition Audio device to the latest version (6.0.7.7841, according to Driver Easy that said Realtek High Defition Audio is unplugged and my current version is not the latest one)

After downloading it I installed it but always fail.

Now that I think about it, are Realtek and AMD different?

If you have any idea how to fix it please tell me (in simple way if you don't mind)
Every method I've tried didn't give a better changes.
I beg on your help.
Thank you.

How can I get AMD HD audio device (see the Subject) plugged in; do I need to buy a HDMI digital jack?   When I opened the icon of "Sound" on the desktop, I, under the playback tab, saw the said device not plugged in.  Please help!

A:AMD High Definition Audio Device not plugged in

Hi: If your PC had an HDMI out port, that device would be connected via an HDMI cable. However, looking at the specs for your PC, I only see a DVI out port. I do not believe you will get sound from the DVI port by using a DVI to HDMI adapter cable. You'll only get video. I assume your PC speakers are working via the Realtek HD audio, correct?

Hi everyone.

I bought my mom a refurbished PC and no sound comes out of the speakers. I have made multiple attempts to update the sound driver with no luck. The salesperson over the phone told me I needed to download a new sound driver, but offered no help in identifying which one. I have filled out the system info specs and would appreciate the help in identifying which driver to download.

Please and thank you!

A:High Definition Audio Device - No Sound

If you have the "HD Audio Codec" listed as the sound device/driver that is the generic Windows driver and many systems need vendor specific sound drivers.

Without the actual Lenovo PC model number there is no way we (or you) can try to find the correct driver.

A:High definition audio device PROBLEM

Well, it says there's no speaker output available... do you have speakers plugged into the light green jack on the back of the PC?

Also, what is the USB Audio device? (or are these your speakers?)

Did you install Win 7 over the top of XP or is it a fresh install of Win7.

With your speakers plugged in you can try deleting -both- HD Audio devices in Device manager and reboot.

You ask about your speaker system but you don't tell us any information about your speaker system.

What speaker system do you have plugged in?
What ports do you have them plugged into.

We need you to fill out your system specs completely like mine.

This tutorial by Brink should help.

You said it's under "Network Adapters"????

I'm guessing you're seeing it listed under "Other"? In any case, the name sounds like it is a High Definition Modem on your Toshiba. Look under the Audio Drivers on the Toshiba website for a modem device and download its driver

If you still need help, give the exact model of your Toshiba computer and tell us what version of Windows you are running

Been less than 24 hours since this started and Im clueless. I have a Dell 5100C desktop running XP Pro. Have searched for solutions but nothing has come up that resolves issue.

A:high definition audio device not working

chris050189, welcome to the Seven Forums.

"High definition audio device" means that it is running on the generic Windows audio driver, and you need to install the proper driver for your audio device. We can't tell you which you will need as you haven't listed anything to do with your system specs.
