Restore Pinned apps in taskbar

Q: Restore Pinned apps in taskbar

Hi there, i have a problem after one of windows Update processes, i'm on Win7 Beta 7000 and all my default pinned apps buttons are gone, and "pinned app" feature is working strange.

A list of all the little strange problems happening:
-all buttons lost their extra features (recent doc, play/pause buttons for wmp, explorer particular list)
-a blank pinned app button that doesn't want to erase
-if i pin windows media player, when i open it another icon appears

Any idea?

Preferred Solution: Restore Pinned apps in taskbar

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys - this is a weird problem that I ve always had since building this computer or years ago and I don t think the drive was new when I built it so it went from totally normal in my xp machine to doing this weird thing when I put it in a new system with Win I ve searched and not been able to find anyone with the same problem It normally occurs when listening to music or watching a film and it only happens very occasionally when you go to skip to to a new song or skip to a different place in the video It s never been a Some then HD until whirs clicks apps unresponsive major problem and in fact I think it s only done it once this week so aside from googling it a couple of times never actually got very far with fixing it So in winamp for example just after opening it I ll click next song winamp installation and music are on different hard drives as are VLC and movies and it ll freeze Then the disk will make a whir and about seconds later there will be a click and everything will come Some apps unresponsive until HD whirs then clicks back to life During this time I can move my mouse and do other things on the computer Like I said it s always done this and it s never got any worse or anything so I don t think it s a faulty drive but I ll post this in the HD section too just to see if any experts there can shed any light on it Thanks for your help nbsp

OK, I was being careless and formatted an SSD under XP. I then installed Windows 7 Pro 64. My offset is 63. I know I am not aligned. Any method of alignment test says I am not, and I don't want to burn up my SSD.

My question is can I re-align without re-installing Windows 7? I have a bunch of stuff transferred/installed/licensed and I don't want to do a clean install.

Will the following work:

1. Run Norton Ghost and get a disk image.
2. Re-format the SSD under another Win7 computer and format with correct offset.
3. Restore backup image to correctly aligned SSD.

Any thoughts on that?

I really messed this up.

Thanks for any thoughts.

UNless someone else has a better idea, how old is this computer & is it still under warranty? If so, I'd get a hold of the where you bought it & get it checked out. IF you don't & have "other" work done on it, it could VOID the warranty.

After doing some more searching around on the laptop I found it has a full recovery built in. I've done that but won't know until tomorrow after my son uses it if it's back like it was originally.

(first post I posted) This is my sons laptop, he's in the Marines and this laptop has been in Afghanistan and used for lots of music etc. and he's home now and I'd like to restore it back to like it was when new. It has become slow/lags in the past week.

A:Best way to do a total restore

According to hp, that model should have recovery-partition built-in and HP recovery manager software inside Windows 7. There are 3 types of recovery:

System Recovery: Reformats the system drive (normally C, re-installs the original operating system, all the original hardware drivers and software. Does not impact user created partitions. If there are two hard drives, only the drive with the operating system is modified.
WARNING: If the size of the OS partition (normally C was reduced below a minimum size requirement, the other user created partions will be removed and stored data will be destroyed.
Factory Reset: Removes all partitions, reformats the entire hard drive, re-installs the original operating system, and all the original hardware drivers and software. Also, re-creates the required Recovery partition (normally D and UEFI partition (normally E, and re-installs the required software.
This Factory Reset option returns all of the notebook's software to the condition it was in at the time of purchase. All user changes or additions are removed.
Minimized Image Recovery: Removes all partitions, reformats the entire hard drive, re-installs the original operating system and hardware drivers, and re-installs HP essential software (i.e., HP Support Assistant, HP Recovery Manager, etc.), but does not install the trial applications and games.Click to expand...

Additionally there are 3 methods of recovery: press F11 to perform immediate recovery, using hp recovery software inside windows, or using recovery discs.

all of them are described here: hp support page

I recently preformed a Bios update to my old laptop (HP pavilion 6604nr) using one under HP's site under my model. I turned away for alittle while, while it flashed and when I turned back the screen was black. Upon restarting the screen will not display an image. I do hear windows start up. It was working fine, i had just installed windows 7 on it (ubuntu was on it before) I was testing it out.

A:RAID issue - deleting RAID volume to restore non-RAID disks

sadly, there's no way to do what you want without an existing backup.

Look at it this way;
A disk has a container ~ the partition.
The partition as a structure ~ the filesystem (eg NTFS, FAT32, RAID).
We put our data into the structure.

When we create backups, we are getting only the data itself (unless you use an image program like Ghost or Acronis where you get all three).

Deleting the RAID will give back the two independent HDs, but also breaks the structure so that the data becomes in accessible.

I would remove the hard drive, install it into an enclosure or a docking station and use another PC to read the hard drive and copy your files. BTW, you should always back up your important files to avoid predicaments like this but I guess you know that by now.

Once you recover your files you perform a clean install of Windows, reinstall all your applications and copy your files back to your original hard drive.

A:Laptop goes blank no taskbar no icons

Where we see this most frequently is in peculiar hard drive failures...
Did it work normally when you rebooted in <SAFE MODE>?
In <SAFE MODE> you should be able to remove AV, then see if it will boot normally, then defragment, and scan your system with a variety of antispyware and antivirus downloads.
You can always reinstall AV later.

My parents/younger brother had messed up the family computer with viruses and stuff and even after running multiple virus scans and spyware removers it still had pop-ups and random crashes.
So I decided just to do a factory restore to return it to its original factory settings. After doing so I deleted some of the useless programs that are initially installed with the computer and turned it off.

The next day I tried to turn it on, and the power sign would flash and lights would turn on, then it would shut off, and automatically begin the process over every 5-10 seconds. During this time the monitor shows the "no signal" sign.

Any ideas what could of gone wrong and how to fix this problem?

A:Dell Dimension E510 won't turn on after a factory restore

Do one more restore. Do not delete those programs this time. You are likely causing errors in your registry.
Once you are done with the Install, go to the site, and have Dell update all the device drivers.
Then connect with and download all the Windows Updates. There will be about 109 of them.
At the end of these two updates, you should be back to normal operations.

It isn't in your best interest to publish your email address in an open forum. I would try to make a more behind the scenes arrangement if you can find somebody to help you.

I think if a moderator passes by, they will probably remove your email, if you don't choose to do it yourself via the edit button.

If needs be I will clear the lot and reinstall Windows myself, but if there is a factory restore image on there it would save time with the drivers and so on if I can run it.
The original CDs that came with the machine are missing - the system still runs so is it possible to create a recovery CD?
Any ideas anyone?

Take a look at your disks using the Disk Management console.

Could well be the missing space is now unallocated space on the drives.

You require the Sound/Audio drivers for your model of computer and Windows version. You can search for this yourself at your manufactures support web site.

A:DVD Drive not working after re-restore

You are missing a critical driver install... most likely the Chipset drivers... which you can find at the Toshiba Tech support site.
Can you get online with the Toshiba.
Your Device Manager will give you some clues (Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager)
Look for yellow or red flags. They will delineate the problem. Then you can find eth appropriate drivers at
You will obviously have some difficulty getting it up and running... But if you are able to access your USB port, you can download the driver to a flash drive and install it that way.

Hi to all, please be kind my first posting and little /no technical knowledge of computers hence why I need system restore points.

Operating XP used to be able to use System restore points easily as they were automatically created however now they are created as these are indicated in bold when I open up the calender Iso the computer is creating them I can also create new points these to indicated in bold however when I go through the process at the end if it states that the resoration did not happen or word to that affect ie the computer did not go back to that date ???? and any problems on computer stay there I have tried to put in the recovery discs and start again however same problem any advice suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:System restore points

System Restore is a Windows function that allows you to "rollback" the system files to the earlier point in time when a "snapshot" is created of each important system file and some application file changes. But note: System Restore is not a System Backup.

The difference: System Restore is taking a snapshot of system files plus a very limited set of other system resources. A (full) System Backup is taking a snapshot of every EVERYTHING.

System Restores are a great idea as they can run quickly but in too many cases become a user's default "System Backup" - until realizing that System Restores give you a chance at recovery but it may not, in fact, have saved EVERYTHING needed to get to that rollback point because many other changes occured since that point which were never saved so can't be restored.

Also note, you have a limited time window to use a System Restore point. Windows reserves a maximum amount of space to save them. Once that space runs out, Windows removes older System Restore points to make room for a new System Restore.

i've got an HP pavilion 774e with a new hard drive and bought the system restore disks. Got some kind of hardware trouble. The restore disks won't work. There's 8 of them and I installed them. But then it wouldn't work. at the end it formats the disk and starts to copy files onto the user partion and then it reboots. so it never copies all the files. ever. Just keeps rebooting. Sometimes I get an error that says "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Other times it reboots with no error.

A:HP system restore disks won't work

Call HP and let them know. This will not be the first time they have mixed them up. or shipped a defective set.
You can be sure HP wants to know, and will refund your money.
What you report sounds like a driver error... or a hardware error... so you might want to give that some thought...

I am looking to do a destructive system restore on my computer. I seem to have a big problem with a trojan on my computer that I got off limewire, it has infected system 32 and when i start the computer, it sends hundreds of windows at me, so it is near impossible to do anything before start up.
I have the disks in order to do the restore and I heard that if you press F1 key at the start up screen it will bring you to the BIOS but it doesn't seem to be working, and if I hold F11, it will bring me to a black screen.
I needed to know a possible solution before bringing it to an expert or having to get rid of the entire thing.

Please help.

I have tested old speakers with the OLD audio card, which is still installed above my new Audiphile one. Old speakers work PERFECTLY, so it is NOT the CPU or PC. It is either the SPEAKERS or the AUDIOPHILE sound card. How do I find out? I have no other speakers that connect to the Audiophile card, and I have no other PC with a card that can test the speakers.

Anyone have an educated decision? A popping noise every 10 seconds or so, on and off, sometimes never happens...audiocard most likely, right? The speakers were bought brand new, M-Audio Studio Pro 3's. They seem just fine.

Any ideas?

I think it might be a driver conflict. Thanks

A:Cant restore with new motherboard.

Windows as a rule does not work on a different motherboard ("same specs" doesn't say much). You have to do a repair install or a clean install to make it work.

Also, even if you got a compatible motherboard, the RAM, hard drive or any other peripherals may have been damaged by the PSU death too. Test them all.

If im not mistaken the way the HP computers work, is there bios is actually right on the hard drive not in the motherboard (Well dad told me this and it was a while ago). Either way im not 100% sure, but FYI next time you install something, always do a restart, so other programs that were only partially shut down, won't interupt the install.

Reset your BIOS the old fassion way... LOL

1. Remove the CMOS battery, some people say for up to 2 hours.... i say remove the battery, unplug the power cable, then hold the power for about 1 min. (the leave power off for up to 2 hours+ is to let the Capacitors drain any residual charge they may have stored... holding the power button opens the circuit allowing all power to drain out)

Plug everything back in and BIOS reset.....

I have been ripping my cd's to mp3 in Media Player 10. During the ripping process, one can usually listen to the songs as they rip/convert to mp3 format. This has been working beautifully, no problems. However, I recently noticed that the last 4 cds I ripped don't have any sound. They show up in the library but when I try to play them, they are silent. I don't know what I might have done to mess up the settings. Has anyone got any fixes/ideas about this situation? Is there a way to restore the original MP10 settings?

My games are crashing!!!

I have changed graphics cards from a fx5200, to a ati9500 (overclocked to a 9700) and have had the same problem on most of my games. I have the lastest Direct X drivers, and all my other hardware is up to date.

Most of my games just minimize and will not come back up, or if they do the computer crashes.

Can any kind person explain the difference between a

Boot disk and Restore disk?

The reason I am asking is my Hard disk appears to be on its last legs and when it finally goes I will have to buy and install a new one.

I have a Restore CD (actually 2 that came with my computer) and I have read a little about Boot disks.

so .... When I start my computer with the new Hard disk what do I use? (as it will be blank)

a Boot disk?
or a Restore disk?
or both?

many thanks

A:Boot disks and Restore disks?

A boot disk is a disk that your computer can use to boot. A restore disk is a disk that contains some sort of restore information.

A boot disk may contain restore information and a recovery disk may be bootable.

In your case, you should just boot from the restore CD and follow the pretty on-screen instructions.

I can't find that thread so I'm asking if that or similiar happens with other programs such as Avast,CCleaner, M-bam & so on? If so, I think it might be best to use revo to uninstall & reinstall, is that true? I'm only asking because my Vista laptop has slowed a bit & I'm thinking I could speed it up a bit by doing such. Hi All,

I've recently rebuilt a server for our Reports Database, installed SQL Server R2 2008 and updated to SP2. Installed all the preqs. However when restoring our test database, it takes forever to restore, literally hours. Is there something I missed? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks in advance

A:Issue with SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2: Database restore

First, investigate the technique being used: A binary image restore of the files OR just a plain SQL REPLACE. The binary restore is not the default, so I am afraid you're into the slow route.
Make sure you are not doing record at a time and are using the batch mode

If there's 1000's of records, ditch the indices:

DELETE all secondary indicies from every table (keep the definitions obviously)
Then RESTORE - - the base tables will fill much faster.

When done, update the schemas to add back the indices, and you can then write
SQL recreate the index data from the base tables.
Being the SQL-DBA is fun :sigh:

It is there, but you likely need an experienced tech to rescue the invormation... someone who has already gone through several installs and updates. I cannot imagine anybody giving you enough information in the proper steps over this small message box... without knowing a great deal about your equipment and software, and the install procedures.

You have perhaps a 20 to 30 minute job for the techs who know what they are doing.

Sounds like windows is corrupted from the unexpected shutdown. Try a system restore from a early time. See if this fixes your problem. If not you have to do a factory reinstall .

Hi I ve been at this for several days and just can t get it to work I have a computer which has a single disk but two partitions Using GhostCast Server I want to create an image of the first partition only and later on restore the image back on to the first partition of the client computer without affecting any data inside the second partition So far what I to in Image server Create/Restore Partition GhostCast Unable ve done with GhostCast is create an image Unable to Create/Restore Partition Image in GhostCast server of the entire disk however when it comes to restore it restores the entire disk When I use the same image and select the partition option on GhostCast server I can not manually select the first partition to restore as a matter a fact it does not show any partitions at all and GhostCast server does not work with this option I ve also tried creating an image with the partition enable on GhostCast server With this I can select which partition I wan to create an image of versus the entire disk But when it comes to restore on the client side I am force to restore the image on to the entire disk All I want to do is have an image only of the first partition I call it my Operating partition and the second is my Pictures partition After a few days weeks months having my children playing with the computer and infecting with trojans I d like to use the image I created and restore it back to how it was serveral weeks prior without affecting the pictures I ve store on the second partition nbsp

A:Unable to Create/Restore Partition Image in GhostCast server

hmm; yes I was disappointed with that issue too.
Ghost and Acronis both create images of the HD and not just the partition.
The sole argument (imo) for that choice is to capture the MBR (which is outside the partition).

All I want to do is have an image only of the first partition ( I call it my Operating partition and the second is my Pictures partition). After a few days/weeks/months having my children playing with the computer and infecting with trojans, I'd like to use the image I created and restore it back to how it was serveral weeks prior without affecting the pictures I've store on the second partition.Click to expand...

the organization of C:\ for the System itself and D:\ for your data is great!! WELL DONE!!

if you have a) an external HD or b) another system, then you can use replication
as a means to protect D:\

Once D:\ has a secondary source, the recovery of C:\ is a wipe clean, repartition, and full install of the OS.

Windows backups are a farce for system level recovery -- they're only good for user data.

You can improve the security for ALL users by allowing only LUA accounts

Is there any other free apps around that can prevent users from installing all kinds of software, pretty much like Deep Freeze. See I'm running a small internet cafe business, and I hate it when people install all kinds of third-party apps (e.g Yontoo). Kids are regulars here in my cafe and some have no idea what they're doing with the system.

I don't want to use Deep Freeze. I want something simple to use and with much flexibility.

Last night (02/19/14) I went to bed & left my Vista Home Premium laptop on which I've done several times before only this time ,next morning when I moved my mouse to start surfing, no taskbar. No, I don't have it set to auto-hide,either.
I used Ctrl-Alt- Del to bring up the Task Manager but was unable to see how to reboot it using the Task Manager. I now can't remember what I did, but I got to a blueish screen giving me options on whether I wanted it to hibernate, switch user, etc, etc. I clicked on one of them, clicked my name & it rebooted.
I don't know how to find the Event viewer if that is what I needed to look at, so , what could of caused this? I know his laptop aint the best, but I'm glad it works as good as it does.

A:Taskbar mysteriously disappeared

That resembles Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) crash. Though when I have seen them in the past Windows has always recovered or rebooted on its own. I've never been kicked out to the login screen. That could be due to the fact I never see the login screen, my PC boots straight to desktop.

If someone uses the login screen, an explorer.exe crash might recover and start back at the login screen. But I couldn't say for sure if this is what would happen.

I've even had instances where Explorer seemed to freeze. I still had mouse control but nothing worked from the taskbar. Starting task manager and killing explorer.exe, would manually initiate the recovery. The taskbar will disappear and then reappear. During these instances are the only time, I have been able to kill the explorer.exe process, without Windows shutting down.

A:Access denied to backup restore

I have no idea. This seems to be a theme recently where nobody's back-up program will allow them to access the files.

The only two ideas I can come up with are 1, you should re-post this in the "Windows" forum. And 2, get with support of the external drive manufacturer. There may be encryption of file involved when writing to the external drive .

I'm sorry I'd don't have more than that for you.

Panic over !!! I engaged what little brain I have & searched the Mozilla support forums. Older versions of firefox available from the link below :-

I'm still using Firefox v3.0.11.

From Norton Community:

Hi all,

Firefox 3.5 was finally made available today. We have a couple defects that we had to wait for the release version before we could fix. We're going to make a couple changes and test with the final release of Firefox 3.5 to ensure the compatibility issues we discovered were indeed corrected.

There should be another update on this later on today with additional status on Firefox 3.5 compatibility.
