# Admin acount no longer has admin privileges?

Q: Admin acount no longer has admin privileges?

Hi.

The main (and only account) I have been using since the first beta came out had administrator privileges.

Today when I booted up I noticed that my account could no longer do things that are associated with an admin account, such as installing certain programs and writing to certain folders.

I created another account with admin rights and that account has the exact same problem. I tried removing the admin status on my account and putting it back on but that did not work.

Anyone else have this problem or have any advice on how to get my account seen as an admin account?

Preferred Solution: Admin acount no longer has admin privileges?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Frustrated with admin rights - Please help me.

Just purchased new PC - HP Pavilion desktop and upgraded to Windows 10 during installation. I've downloaded Google Chrome as my default search engine with no issues. I've attempted several times to download Google Earth. Download fails: "Google Earth needs administrator privileges to install."

I am the only user on this PC and User Account type indicates that I'm the "Administrator".

Why won't Google Earth install?

A:Google Earth won't install - admin privileges required (I am admin)

Hello and welcome!

Sometimes you have to run the installation file and deliberately make it "Run as Administrator" by right clicking on the downloaded file and selecting this option. Not sure if this is the case with Google Earth but worth a try.

See Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable about enabling the built-in admin account. Once you get it set up I would take a system image with third party software (aomei, eg) so you have a fallback.

There should be an admin account with full rights that was created when Windows was installed but it is usually only available when booting into safe mode. When safe mode starts, he should see an admin account and his account. Have him select admin and then go to control panel, user accounts. There he should be able to set up accounts and change the rights on existing accounts

Hi

I had a problem with a windows 7 laptop on our network, to sort the problem i took the laptop of the domain, with the idea of remote desktop back in to add to the domain again. My problem is the local admin account was not enabled, i now have no way of loggin into the machine.

I have tried "manage - connect to another computer" I am able to see the menu, but "local users and groups" has a red x through it telling me accessed is denied.

Is there way of enabling the local admin acount remotely?

thanks in advance

So I've had a recurring issue with Windows that Admin No Admin as Privileges has only come to the forefront once again due to a need to upgrade Flash and finding I cannot delete a core file or do a fresh install of flash because it cannot write over said file So No Admin Privileges as Admin Let's get to business with the heart of the problem I'm on a custom built Windows Ultimate -bit OS machine My primary account as admin privileges when the user data is brought up on mmc I have attempted to run the installation as well as delete the offending file Windows SysWOW Macromed Flash NPSWF dll on both the default administrator account and on my primary account In both occasions it has stated that I do not have administrator privileges and need to login to the administrator account Obviously being done from the administrator account this doesn't make the tiniest bit of sense Nor does the fact that flash is working on Chrome but not on Firefox But let's not get into that for now So computer gurus who know more than I how do I solve this issue of not having administrator privileges on the administrator account I'm not sure if I included all the information you might need and I'm happy to provide more Just ask away Edit I believe it's relevant to mention that I use PCTools antivirus protection though I disabled IntelliGuard and the Computer Immunization while attempting this No apparent effect on the administrator privileges though Also no viruses found in a complete system scan

Try uninstalling flash first using THIS uninstaller (from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html).

If that doesn't work still, try deleting the offending file by doing the following, in order, on an administrative command prompt

Code:

takeown "<drive>:/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash/NPSWF32.dll" /f %1 /r /d y

Code:

icacls "<drive>:/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash/NPSWF32.dll" /grant administrators:F /t

I purchased a new Alienware computer 2 weeks ago and a couple days ago I noticed I couldn't access my Pictures folder. I also noticed I couldn't do any Admin tasks. I can't open task manager, Open any exe. files and when I right click on C drive I get Access is denied. I don't believe I've made any changes so not sure what went wrong. I could make changes and install programs prior.

A:7-zip admin privileges?

Here are the steps to modify ownership and permissions of folders and files:
1.       Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
2.       Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
3.       Click Edit, and then do one of the following:
·         To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click Other users and groups and, inEnter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.
·         To change the owner to a user or group that is listed, in the Change owner to box, click the new owner.
4.       If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on sub containers and objects check box.
5.       Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.
6.       Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.
Additional considerations
·         An administrator can take ownership of any file on the computer.
·         Assigning ownership of a file or a folder might require you to elevate your permissions using User Access Control.

I got a free computer via a local "Help" disability program (yeah me!) However, things are very different on this system (Win 7) than my old one (I have background from DOS 3.1 - Win XP). I don't know if I'm looking at Win 7 issues or something the computer providers set up (will call when I see replies to this post).

Although I am, as best I can tell, the Admin., several folders are not accessible to me (such as C:\Documents and Settings or C:\Users\All Users).

Do you folks believe that there is an Admin. setting that I fail to see or is it possible that my computer providers made some sort of master Admin. control setting?

Thanks!
Rick

A:Admin. Privileges?

Welcome to the forum.

In Windows 7, Documents and Settings as well as several others in that folder are not real folders, they are Junctions that are there to allow legacy programs to interface to Windows 7's folder structure.

Windows 7 uses C:\Users\*your user name*\Documents and C:\Users\*your user name*\Appdata
(Appdata is a hidden folder) to accomplish what Documents and Settings did in XP.

Open the security tab after right clicking on file or folder and choosing properties. Give your unique account permission by adding it. You have to actually type it and then check boxes too.

Edit | Add

Then type.

Only resort is to back up and do a restore PC but even the backup won;t let me go past the UAC.
Any help will be much appreciate.d

A:Need help with Admin privileges

You cannot log in as an real admin. If UAC is not letting you past, there there is something wrong with the software or third party security software you may have installed. Where did you get this software and what is the name of it?

Something has happened to our desktop.  Kaspersky has been unable to update databases; sent them a message and have attempted all steps they suggested but am unable to run anything.  Am not able to run or access anything as admin.  There latest email stated to send them screen shots of everything (have attached them)  Computer will not allow me to see users or change users.  Not sure what's going on.  Estimated to be having the problem for the past 2-3 weeks; coincidentally around the time Internet Explorer completely stopped working.

A:Admin privileges disappeared.....

try safe mode to access admin with  total permissions  In safe mode you shpold be able to fix your problems

cmd in windows does not give full access permissions for some system access

make sure you have I.E. eleven installed down/load a new copy and install if necessary

Hello! As the title says I can't do anything that requires admin privileges on my computer whether it's running a program as admin or deactivting my firewall/antivirus etc etc. Whenever I try to deactivate my firewall/antivirus nothing happens, and when I try to run a program as admin I end up with a window giving me an error message (I'll add a picture of it). So if anyone has got a clue on how to fix this then please help me, I would appreciate it so much!

EDIT: It's exactly the same error for every program that I try to run. The only thing that isn't the same is the file path shown, it shows the program that I'm trying to run.

A:Can't do anything that requires admin privileges!

Hi Joelmosen First of all, I want to give you a warning about one program you have on your desktop, ComboFix. ComboFix is a very powerful reporting and scripting tool that was developped by sUBs, used by members of the malware removal team here on BleepingComputer (and also on other forums). This tool can easily break a Windows installation if poorly and/or wrongly used. It can make the whole system unbootable and also delete everything present on your drives (leaving you with close to no chance of recovery) or damage your Windows installation so badly that you would be forced to reinstall it. Therefore, you should not be using ComboFix unless you are in one of the two situation listed below:You have been trained in an online malware removal forum to use ComboFix;You are using it under the supervision and instructions of a trained malware removal professional on BleepingComputer or another recognized malware removal forum (UNITE forums for example); If you already ran ComboFix on your system and need assistance with the log, you will have to post a thread in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section of BleepingComputer, where a trained helper will assist you.If you have any questions or concerns about ComboFix, quietman7 wrote a FAQ on it and you'll find all your answers in it.ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look hereAlso be aware that BleepingComputer doesn't provide any advice on how to use ComboFix on your own, due to the nature of the tool and how dangerous it can be when used without supervision or proper training. Is the error message the same for every programs you right-click on and select Run as Administrator? Did you ever run ComboFix on your own on your system? On a side note, that version of AdwCleaner is outdated.

I left on vacation over the past weekend. Upon my arrival home, I went to my computer to check my mail. I noticed a second account but thought nothing of it on the log-in screen. Later, as I am trying to update my programs such as iTunes, I come to find out that my administrator privileges are gone. My roommate has confessed to changing adding an administrator account and demoting my account. However, the password he set was from a random password generator and is only recorded in a text file on the desktop of the admin account. How do I regain my administrative privileges on the computer and delete the other account?

I have an HP Pavillion p7-1207c.
I have tried restoring the system from a backup, but that requires an admin's permission.
All help is gladly accepted.

A:How do I regain Admin privileges?

Not a smart guy... that roommate of yours!

User Account Password - Change from WinRE

In step 7 do:

Code:
net user name_of_admin_account *
Now give the name_of_admin_account a new password so you can logon. Now you can give the other acount admin priviliges. You can delete the name_of_admin_account when logged on as admin account. Step 8 to 13 aren't needed of course

Hello.

I'm trying to inject an DLL with an old program, which worked fine before I re-installed. My old setup was Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 + All updates.

My current setup is the same, Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 and all updates available through Windows Update. (except sp3)

However, it doesn't work. I think it's a privileges issue. My user account is "Administrator" and a part of the "Administrators" group. I've also enabled the "Debug Programs" privileges on my account, even though it's already on by default for administrators.

It fails on this function:

GetWindowThreadProcessId()

It just returns 0. Even though the HWND i'm passing to it is correct (checked, 100 times.)

any suggestions?

Hi

I seem to have lost admin rights/privileges on my account, even though it says i am an admin. I can't use windows update because of the following message. UAC is off.

I created another account and swapped admin privileges to that, and everything was ok, but as soon as i swap the privileges back to my original account, i get various 'this action requires admin rights' etc etc

I'm confused. I don't want to keep logging into another admin account just so i can use windows update.

I've tried this, but it said it couldn't fix all the problems. What can i try next folks?

Cheers

Just set up a new account. Give yourself privileges for the software in the first account. Make that the new account. The first account is corrupt

You can try this, too.

Is this possible? We have about 100 remote users who access our office network via VPN rather than RAS. All of these users are running either W2K or XP.

Our problem is that the internet settings on these laptops have been set (purposely) to automatically download updates from the Win Updates site. This bit works fine! But these updates cannot be installed as the users do not have administrator permissions on their local machine.

Is there a way of allowing these updates to install without giving the users full admin rights? (We REALLY don't want to give them these rights as suffice it to say that some of them are not as computer savvy as we would like.)

I have heard a little birdy say that there is a registry update which can bypass the above problem, but how and where?

Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks muchly.

A:Lost Admin Privileges

The prompt for Admin during installs is actually a good thing (that is the UAC and you REALLY want it to prompt) BUT you can almost always use any log in the Administrators Group

use CP->User Accounts
add user
set type = Admin
*must* add password to it

save and close

runas /user:$whatever$you$just$created cmd
give that password

it will then create the %profile% for that new user

From then on, you can reply with $whatever$you$just$created and its password

Hello Mark, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What system file are you trying to move?

If you like, you could enable the built-in "elevated" Administrator account, then sign in to it to have full elevated rights when needed. Do note, that Store apps will not work in elevated accounts.

A:Running computer as someone without Admin privileges.

Not necessarily. A standard user account can be infected by some malware. But yes, it is a preventive measure and should be used.Read this : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/create-new-user-account-in-windows-vista-7/I suggest, that you use Sandboxie and run your browser inside it. http://www.sandboxie.com/Sandboxie runs your programs (like your browser) in a totally isolated space, so even if a malicious site installs something, all you have to is clean the contents of Sandboxie. Some antivirus like avast! also have an inbuilt sandbox which run suspicious programs inside it automatically, preventing them to make actual changes to your computer.

When users with admin privileges have ownership of files and folders, do those files and folders remain, or are they deleted?

This question arises from having tried to copy my primary admin profile to that of a new (backup) admin user. During that tedious and unsuccessful process, I had to change ownership and privileges of a number of folders and files, and now some of my programs are having trouble finding needed files. So rather than wading through everything and changing the settings back, I'd prefer to delete the new admin user -- as long as I won't lose the files.

Does that even make sense? (It's way past my bedtime!)

A:Deleting Users With Admin Privileges

Make copys of all the files you want to keep or use an admin account and pull the files onto the account you wish to keep then delete the old one. As long as you have a copy that you have privileges to on the account you are going to keep you should be fine, just make sure to keep a copy of all the files that you can get into.

First, on the admin account, enable (temporarily or otherwise) UAC: User Account Control - UAC - Change Notification Settings

Then go into the limited account and change whatever you would like, with your admin user name and password handy.

Hallo,

I wrote a Script that uninstalls an application, move some files and install an Application.
The Script is working if I start it as Admin (right click - run as Admin ...).
Everything works fine.

But I want to have it working without the "run as".
The script is only used in a separated Test system,
so there is no problem if the Admin user name and password is in the script.
(also link wouldn't work, should also work if it moves to another station within the test domain)

Is there a way to manage that?

A:Admin privileges in batch script

Batch command runas with a standard trick
echo password | runas
it is NOT going to work, because the password should be entered manually.

If you do not mind clicking Yes in UAC window you can use Elevate.exe
With it you won't need writing password anywhere
"C:\yourFOLDER\elevate.exe" "C:\yourScriptFOLDER\yourScript.bat"
would be enough to start script with admin privileges (still need to click YES on UAC window).

This even happened in Win 7 when I reverted back for a while. Error message asks if I want to save in My Documents instead, and then allows it (outside of my desired sub-directory). However, cannot delete files.

Is it possible to give admin privileges to a particular command or a set of commands (say for example i wanted to set the IP address of the machine from the limited user) from the admin login.

thanks in advance,

Im sure if u assign the laptop an IP address another account would use that.
Unsure and not willing to test it, but you could try!
Aslong as you know the admin stuff...we cant help with passwords :)

i dont think you can change the admin/limited rights..if they need to install programs..i would set as admin, what damage could they do :P lol

Beginner level

After a failed Windows Update some months ago, I was unable to get any further updates. The error message 80070005 indicated I did not have 'privileges' to do so. I installed Hotfix, although not sure what this actually achieved. After Flash crashed later on, I tried to install the newest version, but again, I do not have Admin Privileges to do so. Tried with and without Norton 360 running, with and without Windows Defender running.
Looked at User Accounts. Tried with and without User Account Control turned off.
Gave the PC several full scans, no problems detected.
Looked at some online tips, but as a beginner, don't want to go anywhere near tinkering with the Registry.

help appreciated

Hi everyone,

I need some help regarding removing restrictions on a secondary drive, drive D: on xp. I have admin privileges on the account i'm using. I was trying to restrict drive D for another user.. and instead it's my own account that got restricted!

This is what i've done,

1) Went to tools>folder options>view>unchecked simple file sharing

2)Then right clicked on drive D: > security tab and removed access from drive for that particular user..

now.. it's my own account that's restricted..

i created another account.. admin.. to see if the drive can be accessed from another one, and yes it can.. it's just mine that is restricted :/

I tried to change all the settings to full control on my account.. i changed the ownership too.. yet it's not working :s I'm lost and not tech savvy at all

would formatting remove the restrictions on that drive?

Please help me with it, thank you

Try adding "Take Ownership" to the Shell:

See if you can elevate your Privileges with that. It may be the permissions for the whole folder where you have these files stored.

A:No admin privileges when logged in as a domain user

Since you are on a domain, are you enforcing group policy ? You are making the user account a Local administrator on this computer, but not a Domain Administrator. Group policy will keep this user account from doing some things if the account is just a domain user. I assume that this user will not normally be a domain administrator, is that correct ? In Active Directory on the server, open Active Directory Users and Groups and see what domain groups does this user account belong to ? You may have to temporarily add this user account to one or more administrative groups in AD for this user account to do all the things you want it to be able to do. Try adding this user to the Domain Admins and the Group Policy Creator / Owners groups on the server, then go to the PC and log in as the user. You may need to log in twice before the elevated permissions show up. When done, be sure to remove this user account from the administrative groups in AD.

Hi guys,

But I see it's a bit more complicated...

So here's the issue.

I had problems installing/updating the drivers and Windows updates too.

I don't use Windows 7 but a buddy of mine does. I made a program in VB.NET and I install it to the program files folder. It goes to access files from there (because I'm not advanced enough to do it internally), and he's getting an error that he's got insufficient rights to access the file(s). I'm told it's because he doesn't have administration rights to the folder.

I remember a while ago someone gave me a program that gave me instant admin rights to any folder in Vista, I was wondering if there was something like that for Windows 7? And if not, how would he go about changing it so that he's admin?

A:Admin privileges to program files in Windows 7?

well for one he has to be on an Administrator account

If, he is then you will have to take ownership of the folder

Quote:

Right-click the folder | select "properties" | go to the "security" tab | click "advanced" | "owner" tab | "edit" | select his account from the list | "check" the check box bellow ("replace owner on subcontainers and objects") Also make sure that he has full permission...

This is an interesting problem for the great minds out here:

Problem:
All the accounts on my wife's XP Home laptop have Admin privileges, but XP will not let any of them perform certain operations, such as installing new HW drivers (for a new HP multi-function printer) or even changing the time on the system clock. We created new Admin accounts - same problem. Did an SFC /purgecache and then /scannow - still didn't fix it.

Background:
XP Home got corrupted on my wife's laptop when I uninstalled SP2 after she unknowingly installed it via Windows Update and it started breaking stuff. I did a Repair using the OS CD-ROM provided by the laptop maker, and that fixed most of the problems. I suspected a virus or adware, but the system checks out clean on multiple scans with Norton AV, AdAware, and Spybot, all updated with their latest definitions.

Hello,

I've just cleaned up a massive malware infection on my grandson's computer (HP Pavilion notebook) and upgraded it to Win 10 from its native Win 8. His account is a standard user vs admin. Everything's working fine. EXCEPT, he plays an online game which requires an admin password to boot. What I'm trying to do is create access to the program without having to log him in every time. The command I'm trying to implement is:

runas /user:ComputerName\Username /savecred "C:\path\to\file.exe"

Of course I swapped out the real computer name and user name, and I've tried working with the existing shortcut pinned to the taskbar, so I know I've got the correct file path. I've also tried creating a brand new shortcut, but I can't get the program to boot. Perhaps Win 10 doesn't allow a runas command for a standard user.

Is there another way - that isn't too complicated - to do this?

A:shortcut w/admin privileges for standard user

I have encountered a curious problem at work. All clients use limited users and in this case there's a Windows 7 on x64 on which I don't have privileged access at all. The normal behaviour, as far as I know, is that when I try to access something that needs administrator privileges, a window shows up and asks me for a privileged user's password. There are two users on the machine (a user called "Admin", the other one being the limited user) and I expect this behaviour (the password windows popping up) when trying access something that needs privileges - this is what happens at home, for instance, as I don't use a privileged user for security reasons.
Any suggestions on how to make that window pop up?

Thanks

The new user name contains no such characters.

So I enabled the hidden admin acct, which seems to have privileges, but gets the same error when trying to create a new acct.

various virus, malware and rootkit detection utilities don't find anything. Outside of the admin issues and account creation, the system runs fine.

This system is a Dell XPS 410, upgraded to win 7 Pro x64 SP1 from XP (before I obtained it).

Any ideas appreciated.

A:Admin has no privileges, cannot create user account

I'm checking into profile issues...System Properties\Advanced|User Profile settings shows the users in the below image.

All seems well except for the Account Unknown. I guess #1 is the hidden admin account, #'s 2 & 3 are the named user accts.

There was an account named updatususer. Research shows that this is an nvidea update service account. I removed it from the admin account (still can't create a new user).

in a cmd window, 'net user' returns only users #2 & #3. User #3 is the local admin account without privileges.

Any ideas as to what the Account Unknown user could be (if it's even pertinent to the issue)? I thought it might be the guest account, but it's not turned on.

How to restore admin user privileges? Cannot download purchased McAfee software because admin user privileges are blocked by the MalwareBytes logo. McAfee techmaster advised me to contact HP to reset admin privileges. I was told I had to purchase their security system to fix it. HP advised me take PC to Office Max for them to reset; but I would lose all stored documents. Will I lose documents if I do a restore myself?

A:How to restore admin user privileges on PC running Win8.

Very likely yes... Although some factory restore routines occasionally allow an option that "allegedly" preserves personal files etc.In an ideal situation one would "regularly" copy (duplicate at least) all those important files to external storage; typically dvd, but an external hard drive too. And check those copies are ok when made, and occasionally thereafter. What you can do is boot the system with a Linux disk, of which there several variants around. Two that come to mind are ubuntu (ubuntu.com) and puppy linux (http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%20Getting%20Started.htm).Download the ISO and burn to a dvd; boot with that dvd.You can then access the hard drive and copy your files to external storage as above. Both of these linux variants are freebies; although a donation is often appreciated (but not compulsory).Ubuntu may offer to install itself to the hard drive - which decline. Simply run the linux OS from the dvd. It will load itself into RAM only, and the hard drive is then merely a resource for the OS loaded in RAM. I think puppy linux does not offer to install itself... Both versions "will" run happily from the dvd. When you have saved all your files (and checked the copies are ok on at least one other working system) then you can safely set about resolving your current problm - knowing your personal files etc. are safe off the hard drive. This statement puzzles me though..."admin user privileges are blocked by the MalwareBytes logo"I don't follow or understand that... Malwarebytes doesn't run etc. usually until the system is booted and logged in?And HP's response to buy their security package sounds like rip off answer; HP sounding like they see a chance make buck rather than simply help support...message edited by trvlr

Hi,

I sometimes need to VNC to users machines to install Active X as I have admin rights while basic users dont. At present I log the user out and log in with my account and do the install.

Is there a way I can access my admin privileges without logging the current user out?

Hi all

I hope somebody can perhaps rescue me,

I have had win8 for approx 1 year and just upgraded to win8.1 last week.

I installed bitdefender total security at the same time and everything was fine for a few days until one morning I woke up my Laptop to find I couldnt open a software program. Further investigation has found that I can not alter anything on my machine.

I have only the one user account which has my name, email, Administrator and password protected showing.

I can use my laptop still but have no admin rights at all.

When i try to open command prompt (admin) it takes a few minutes to come back with an error saying cannot access specified path, file folder etc...

I am pulling my hair out as i cant even restore my system back to factory settings.

How can I restore my factory settings from this point??

Hi this is my first post in the forum I hope this is in the right place.

My problem is that i have lots of laptop users off site and occasionally they'll need to install something.

To let them do this I've had to let them all have administrative privileges on their laptops and because of this they are downloading games and P2P software and all kinds of annoying things.

What i need is a way to be able to let them install off-site but only when i want them too, or maybe remotely doing it for them . I'm not really sure where to start at fixing this problem I'm hoping some of you have some ideas?

I'm going to let a technician have my Windows 7 64bit PC in order to do clone the HDD to a SSD and then replace the HDD with the SSD. I think the techn wants an admin level account. I am concerned that (s)he not gain access to confidential files etc that would be available to me were I logged in. Is there a way to let the tech have admin access (s)he wants w/o having to be concerned about the privacy of the info on it? Can you create an admin level account which deprives its user from gaining access to files on a certain directory under c:\users

A:granting another user access to an account with 'admin' privileges

Acerman why don't you clone the drive yourself it is really not that hard with Macrium Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

See my pic it shows the process but remember the drive you clone to has to be as large or larger than the drive you are cloning from.

There is a way of dragging and dropping the partitions into a smaller drive but it is not reliable enough for me.

The alternative is to image your drive slip a new one in - install the system using this
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and then use the image to get back your data. As you seem to be concerned that you have data that you do not want to be copied or whatever. That is so easy if you know how and I can and I am not a techie so the shop bloke would be more than capable of doing that.

This is something that has bugged me since installing Windows Ultimate with separate admin and user accounts As often recommended for security I normally log on as a standard user If I truly want to make a system change update a program etc I am happy to get a prompt for an admin password Where privileges? a schedule requires task admin How that I can startup it first became annoying was with TrueCrypt I wanted it to run at startup so I could or not enter a password to mount my favorite volumes Windows required me to enter an admin password first just to start up the TrueCrypt How can I schedule a startup task that requires admin privileges? program I futzed and futzed posted questions online and one day TC started running as I'd hope I no longer needed to enter an admin password Unfortunately I had tried so many different approaches that I have no idea which one solved the problem Now I have the same problem with a VPN loader program I want this to run at startup or logon before my email and browsers in my Startup group load I can't even get How can I schedule a startup task that requires admin privileges? it to start enough to ask for an admin pw before running unless I do it manually after logon Then I get that prompt for an admin pw before the VPN program will run I have quot start at logon quot checked within the program I tried How can I schedule a startup task that requires admin privileges? putting the program into my Startup group I tried logging on as an admin and using Scheduler to start it at any logon Nothing has gotten me out of the admin pw prompt The publisher says it knows of no workaround Anyone know how to do this The program is PIA manager from Private Internet Access but I think the issue is more generalized than just this program

A:How can I schedule a startup task that requires admin privileges?

Hello Randy,

By default, Windows will not run anything elevated at startup for security reasons.

If you like as a workaround, you could use the tutorial below to create a task in Task Scheduler to run the program elevated. When you get to step 23, you would use the "run at startup as a task" link to create another task to run the elevated task at startup without getting a UAC prompt.

Hope this helps,

Hi Everyone,

I am using a Windows 7 client on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain (and I am the Administrator of the Domain). The client that I am using is refusing to let me add addition User Accounts to the Administrator group (despite the fact that I am logged on as the Domain Administrator).

Furthermore if I attempt to log onto the client computer as the local Administrator by specifying the computer name rather than the Domain name at logon I see the following -

Finally if I then follow, these http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...idden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/
instructions to enable the hidden administrator account I am met with the following message -

I have considered an offline password reset disk, however the local ('hidden') Administrator account is disabled! This feels like a catch 22, can anybody offer any suggestions on how to restore true Administrative access?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
