Processors/processor Architecture in W7

Q: Processors/processor Architecture in W7

Hello!

My friend was asking me (since I'm the "computer expert" in my circle of friends) what processors and processor srchitecture W7 supported, and if it had support for processors with more than one core. I answered yes, and told him that all new intel and AMD 32/64 bit was supported, but he wanted a more detailed answer.

Anyone know what I can tell him?

Best regards, Luzenna

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Your answer to him was quite sufficient. I'm not sure what else he could be wanting to know.

I am using Intel Core 2 duo processor. My question is, whenever i run my application i would like to know whether my software is using both the processors or a single processor. How do i know it? Is there any way to see that? If it is using single processor, how to make use of both the processors? Please help me out. I need this to improve my software performance.

A:How to make use of both the processors in Dual processor

try this
Control Key + Alt Key + Del key
that will bring up the Task Manager
Look at the Performance Tab - should be two graphs for the CPU Usage History

Being a complete novice who is thinking of buying a PC with an AMD Semperon 2600+ processor. Can anyone tell me how it compares to a Pentium 4 processor.

A:Semperon 2600+ processor v Pentium 4 processors

Uh very poorly, you will notice the Sempron is much cheaper than the Pentium4, or even the AthlonXP. Thats because its a cut down, low market version of the AthlonXP. Its the Celeron of AMD.

A 2600+ AthlonXP would perform much alike, about the same performance of a 2.6GHz Pentium4.

A 2600+ Sempron would probably (my best guess) perform about as good/fast as a 1.8GHz or a 2GHz Pentium4.

If your only doing Internet, word processing, etc, then it'd be fine, but if you want to play games and have a half fast computer, stay away from the Celeron and Sempron. Ever heard of the Duron? Sempron replaced it.

The cpu doesnt have as much cache as the AthlonXP does, which really cuts away from its performance, and a few other things here and there that cut it down, which is also why its soo much cheaper.

Celeron = :dead:
Sempron = puke:

Shall I Upgrade My Processor/What Processors are CompatibleWith My Board?

Well as you can tell from the title, i'm wondering if I should upgrade my processor and what processors are compatible with my board.

I have a ASUS PDGT-LA [HP Goldfish3].

I currently have a Intel Pentium 4 519K 3.06Ghz 533 Mhz FSB 64-bit Processor.

Would upgrading to a 640 or a 630 be worth the $100?

What processors are compatible with my board?

Thanks in Advance,

I'm new to building my own PC. I've taken a really bland class on Computer Architecture, so I know the basics of the basics.

I just guess I have a question that I'm begging to be answered. :dead:

So does anyone know if there's conflicts with the idea of Dual Core Proc. in a Dual Proc. Motherboard?

And of course, is it worth it?

A:Dual Core Processors in a Dual Processor Motherboard

No there will not be any conflict. If the motherboard has a BIOS that supports dual-core processsors, it will use both cores present on each processor.

I was aghast for reinstallations of Windows 8 because of reasons unknown which ran operating system into trouble.
Now I know why this happened, because I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig', which really doesn't exists ('Msconfig' showed 4 processors for Intel Core i3210).
From next start Windows 8 ran into trouble and within a day or two of using this desktop stopped responding, happened for all operating systems where I selected maximum number of processors shown in 'Msconfig'.
Therefore do not select maximum number of processors from 'Msconfig'.

Why the strangeqe question?

you see I have a Dell XPS 15z laptop with a core i7 processor, 8 Giga RAM running Windows 7 Premium and I also have an HP desktop with a core two duo processor, 3 Gigs of ram running Windows 7 Professional but surprizingly the desktop runs faster than the laptop when I give them both tthe same task on Photoshop CS6 ( a processor heavy application). I feel that I have been cheated into buying the Dell laptop which at the time of purchase was expensive in the is country.

A:Are there any new processors that are faster than Core I7 processors

Does it use 100% cpu for a long time? (so cpu is the bottleneck)
Is it a multithreaded application, so are tasks split in many subtasks and use different cores?

Im working on building a server and I need an AMD processor in it. Right now, im looking at AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA3800BVBOX for $322. The purpose of this server is just a place that 4 computers can access. Its not going to be set up as a server, but just Windows XP without a monitor. Im running an intel pentium 4 on the computer holding the network right now, and it is doing fine. Sometimes its just a little slow. So, I would like a little better than a Pentium 4, but AMD. Also, less then $322. What can I get?

Hi, i have some problems about choosing the arquitechture.
I have:
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 Ghz
3 Gb RAM (DDR2)
Nvidie Geforce 7200 Gs (256 Mb DDR2)
256 Gb Hard Drive
And i want to install Windows Vista Ultimate and try Windows 7. I have read some thread about arquitechture but i cant solve the problem. I dont know what to install, if x64 or x86 or x32.

I dont use a lot of games (1 or 2), only i want to use my computer for internet, music, video, some programs like photoshop...

Can someone tell me how to fix the problem?

thanks for all!

PD: and, is there any problem if i install a program x86 in the folder "program files" instead of "program files(x86)"?

A:help with architecture

basically, there are two flavors. 32 bit and 64 bit. eventually everything will be 64 bit. there are many advantages, but right now, the main one is the amount of RAM it can address. if you want more than 4 Gigs of RAM, then you need 64 bit. the down side is, not every program is 64 bit compatible.

is that possible?

its a p4 1700MHz

That alone should mean its MMX right? Isn't that standard since the p2 days?

The ATI site says to "check settings" but what settings?
poked around BIOS but didn't see anything....

This problem negates the vast majority of the video cards functionality...

Is an I3 2120 CPU identical across the board with all those with the same model number? I ask because the specs for my HP6200Business Pro (i3 G630) list it as a compatible processor. When I install it, the PC won't even boot. HP's prices are extremely high, but is their i3 2120 somehow different than a stock 2120 which is priced substantially below their outrageous prices.

The CPU's are made by Intel, they are all the same. Intel does not make custom processors for HP or other OEM's.

OEM's mark up prices to make greater profits on upgrades.

A:Architecture upgrade

If you have a 64 bit system and 32 bit install media, you can contact your local Microsoft office or the manufacturer of your system and request 64bit media.

This would entail a complete reinstall of the system using the new media.

Microsoft or other suppliers may charge P&P for the media

Now here is something you dont hear a lot of croncrete stuff about....
Searched for a forum on this subject but found none, so here you have it.
Some questions if you please:
-Should we be going wider and/or faster, faster?
-Should we be standardising more?
-Should we be focusing on getting the OS completely right? Should it be free?
-Is the future of computing best left entirely in the hands of Corporates or should there be some Governance?
-What is the best all round PC architecture?
-Why do they still cost so much?
-Why cant I add my new system to my old system and get the power of both?

Many more where that came from but lets open the discussion......

A:Future PC Architecture

1)The faster new technology is brought to the mainstream market, the faster prices on the "older" tech drops so it's a cycle that will benefit the consumer.

2)Standardization might help in some cases, but then that would mean either everyone has a gaming PC or they do not. That would be pretty limiting IMO.

3)Getting OSes right would not need to be the focus, since Service Packs/updates would eventually fix all the issues present in them. But yes, I do think they should be made cheaper. Free? I don't think that would help, since it would not give anyone incentive to develop something that's better and even if they do, they wouldn't be able to/willing to share it with the rest of the world.

4)Governments usually mess up things since in the end, they are able to get away with everything. Corporations depend on the end user's satisfaction to survive, so that would be a better thing. But a merging of the two ideas, such as greater governmental control over corporations regarding research wouldn't be such a bad idea.

5)This is debatable and bound to change, according to the first question, so it really isn't valid.

6)PC costs have reduced quite a lot since the late 1990s. So I don't think they cost too much.

7)Well that's because new tech always phases out old tech since companies need to sell the new tech more to earn more money to research more "new tech" and recover the cost/make a profit off of producing the recently released "new tech" that is going to become "old tech" in some years' time. They don't want you to use the old parts with the new ones since the new ones "perform better" and also get them heftier profits. And so the cycle continues...

The signs were written on the wall - the ARM architecture has the potential to expand way beyond smartphones and tablets. Last weeks ARM yearly developer conference shows the way.

Put it all together and ARM is clearly laying the groundwork to expand beyond mobile phones and challenge x86 in netbooks and laptops, desktops and servers. The introduction of versions of Windows 8 and Microsoft Office for ARM-based SoCs from Qualcomm, TI and Nvidia should also be a big boost for the ARM architecture.

A:The future of the ARM architecture

Hi there
As far as the ordinary user is concerned - it doesn't matter what the underlying technology is so long as the USER INTERFACE is simple and easy to use.

If the hardware reduces power consumption well so much the better.

In any case techniques such as virtualisation can ensure that whatever technology powers the servers the end user can still continue to use systems they are used to using.

The ARM type of processor of course has the ability for people to create very large banks of low powered servers cheaply as shown in your post.

I've got a laptop with an Intel Core Duo 2 P8600. Do I have i386 or AMD64?
I'm pretty sure i have i386, but when I downloaded the 64-bit version for Ubuntu, it has AMD in the title name, which makes me curious. I know that my architecture is 64-bit
THanks

A:Do I have i386 or AMD64 architecture?

You have Intel 64, the AMD64 version of ubuntu will work on your machine.

i think its because AMD was the first to introduce 64-bit CPUs to the consumer market, maybe thats why Ubuntu names their 64-bit version AMD64.

So...

Which, from one of these, is better as of performance for a Windows 7 OS?

2048 or...
4096 bytes / per cluster formatting?

Expert reply please (tech. details)!

Many thanks!

P.S. Enjoy the free upgrade to Windows 10, from Windows 7 or up. Thanks to the Microsoft and an off-shore communities! :)

A:Cluster architecture! Which one to pick?

Hi, well cluster architecture (server based) is not what you are referring to, I assume you mean the allocation unit size cluster?

Why do you want to know, and what do you use your computer for? We have found that the default works for most users, there is pro's and con's to any changes. SSD's also make a difference.

If you are in the process of formatting, then the following will not be relevant.

To see what you have go to start search and type:- cmd right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste:-

fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo c: > 0 & notepad 0 press enter ( this assumes the drive is C:, if not change), you can post the notepad outcome here if you like.

Hi all,

I have some issue on my company network architecture. Can anyone advice on how can I improve my company network architecture?Because there are several issues facing now and I could not solve it.

1) The internet connection is slow. Is it possible cause by too many servers?
2) Currently our proxy is responsible to block some of the websites. Unfortunately, only those pc that using DHCP will go through proxy, but those pc with static ip will not go through proxy but both of them will go through firewall. I was wonder whether I can configure our firewall so that it will block the websites but not proxy?

Can anyone advice on the matters and advice on how can the network architecture being improved?

A:Multiple OS system: basic architecture

The basic requirement of running multiple operating systems in a PC is to let each system residing in its own partition except of course running virtual machines which are just files of different guest OSes inside one partition of a hosr OS.

Windows 7 and 8 can be installed on the same hard drive but installed Win7 first as the boot loader of Win8 is newer and more capable. All Windows OSes use only one partition to do booting. If you install Win7 first it will be the hidden System Reserved partition.

In multi boot one use the primary OS's boot loader to fire up the default system and then use it to boot other system's boot loaders. This is called chain loading that every reputable boot loader must be able to perform. Both boot loaders from MS Windows(bootmgr) and Linux (Grub) can boot more than 100 OSes if you got them. In chain loading an OS can boot any operating system totally foreign to itself.

You can also use the Bios to change the disk order to boot multi OSes by installing them in different disks. However the Linux boot loader Grub can do this on-the-fly during the booting process.

Thus everything you said is possible but the easiest is to place them in one hard disk and use Grub as the main boot loader. Therefore the simplest way to achieve this is

Installed Win7 first but tell its installer to use only 1/3 of the unallocated space (this means you allow the installer format only 1/3 of the hard disk).
Installed Win8 next and put it in the second 1/3 of the hard disk.
Verify both are working happily first
Install Ubuntu last using the remaining 1/3 space.

Remember every installer, especially those from M$, is a greedy baster wanting to occupy the whole hard disk (to exclude other operating systems) if given half a chance. However every installer must be able to work on any minimum size and able to use a portion of the hard disk so letting an installer getting away to format the whole disk is always the user's own decision.

By default Ubuntu (or anu Linux) will arrange the triple boot automatically and Grub will replace bootmgr. Every Linux installer is written to examine every partition's boot sector and include that partition for booting if a boot loader is found. SInce MS Windows (from Dos to Win8) always has the boot loader inside the boot sector of the partition it resides therefore any Linux can include the MS Windows for booting after installation without the user lifting a finger. In exactly the same manner a Linux can multi boot the BSD and Solaris systems.

Grub is the most powerful boot loader in a PC because it can boot any installed operating system without even able to read its content. It needs only to be told the the device name of the partition and load the next required boot loader into memory before exiting. Thus when you specify Win7 to boot Grub will load only the bootmgr. It is the bootmgr that show you the choice of Win7 & 8 and fire up any of the chosen ones. Bootmgr can do the same as Grub but it takes 3 to 5 times more work.

If at any time you wish to restore bootmgr just read the help files on bootrec.exe and bootsect.exe. Both of which are inside the Win8 installation DVD with which you can restore the Win8 boot loader.

Remember no reputable OS or its boot loader will destroy other systems. The only way it happens is when you instruct an installer to "format" the hard disk or its partitions. Every boot loader can be restored by the user usually using jsut the installation CD or DVD.

The booting of multi OSes system affects only the first 512bytes (called the MBR) of the first boot disk. By selecting one boot loader as the dominant boot loader you only let it sit in the MBR. The original OSes in the own respective partitions are never touched! A boot loader in the MBR cannot be deleted. It is always overwritten by another boot loader using its own specific command (always available from the installation CD or DVD) which is written not to touch t... Read more

Hi All

I would like to know the requirements of dual channel architecture RAM:

Here is my understanding:

- Dual-Channel Architecture uses Banks consisting of pairs of RAM slots (2 slots per bank)
- Both Slots must contain a RAM DIMM (Stick) - eg. You cannot put a single RAM DIMM into a dual channel bank, both slots
must be filled...
- RAM DIMMs in a bank(matching pair) can have different speeds BUT the slower RAM speed will be chosen...
- RAM DIMMs in a bank(matching pair) can have different sizes/capacities(eg. 1x2GB and 1x1GB)
- RAM DIMMs in a bank(matching pair) MUST be of the same type - eg. DDR, DDR2, DDR3 etc

Am I correct on all my 'assumptions'?

Thank you

A:How does Dual-Channel RAM architecture work?

Some of your assumptions are true regardless of what type of chipset they are going into. But I think I can clarify.

A dual channel refers to two slots working as a bank. So in those two slots, you will want to have matching pairs (as you said). Matching pairs means the same memory...same type, brand, speed, capacity, etc. If you mix memory, you run the risk of it not functioning properly. Anytime you mix memory, you run that risk of instability.

Considering the fact it's been 8-10 years since memory has been available in pairs or kits, there's no reason anymore NOT to use matching pairs. You can mismatch across banks, though. For example, I have 4 memory sticks. They are identical in ever way, except I have 2x4 and then 2x2 for a total of 12 GB. All memory is the same brand, speed, timing, etc.

Being that CPU are getting faster by the pico second what do you see the future will bring to the present motherboard architecture?
Do you see a totally new design or types of motherboards?
Do you see using different materials for electrical tracing?
Do you think we have maxed out the present motherboards speed?
Do you see home computers in closets & wireless remotes all over your house?

These are just a few burning questions I have...
What are your thoughts about what will happen in the next 5 or more years?

I think the ATX standard will be around for some time so I don't see new design or types of motherboards. But I do see where many of today's PC users will get rid of their computer and move solely to their smart phones.

Different materials? No. Tracings? Fiber is already being tested so maybe some boards may go light for the buses.

Maxed out speeds? No.

Computers in closets? Already there. Many new homes come pre-wired and use a server for streaming music, video, and data.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on the best way forward.

Although this is a technical support forum, if anybody has studied these as part of their course, I could use a few clarifications.

I have been reading that many CPUs have an integrated program onto their chips, that provides a more complex instruction set (featuring intructions more complex than those that can be directly processed by the hardware) which is called microcode. I don't understand what's the use of that, though, besides compatibility issues. If the programmer needs more complex commands in his code, why wouldn't he code in a higher level language? Why overload the CPU with another software to execute even more commands? Can the direct "hard-wired" commands be accessed, when a CPU uses microcode?

A:understanding USB port, USB hub, Host controller architecture

It's normal for a laptop to have more USB port controllers than actual ports.

That fingerprint reader is soldered to an USB "port", and the webcams are usually soldered to an USB "port" as well. It's like they were USB devices connected to an USB port, just that the "port" they use is not soldered to the female USB plug, but directly soldered to the cable leading to that device.

Quite a few times laptops don't use all the USB ports they could, as the controllers and stuff to make the port work are physically located on the board's chipset (the component responsible of operating all ports on a motherboard, although more modern processors contain RAM and PCIe 3.0 controllers in them), and the chipset is made to fit models in all price ranges to be mass-produced in huge numbers to cut costs.
Which is why for most devices that don't need a particularly big bandwith they prefer to use USB controllers, instead of wasting much more valuable PCI express 2.0 or 3.0 lanes (3.0 usually reserved for graphics and 2.0 for wifi/bluetooth/3G modems on mini-PCIe cards and other laptop expansion card slots)

A few brave geeks did open their laptops (or netbooks) and soldered devices like say bluetooth/wifi dongles or 3G modems to some of such unused ports, and the devices got recognized and worked.

USB root hubs are the same thing as the external USB hubs, that is they share a single USB connection's bandwith over multiple USB controllers and thus ports (also USB power is shared so 500 mA per hub). Probably they do something else more technical as well as they are always there anyway, but the above is what matters.
If each port has its own hub, then each port has full USB 2 bandwith (and power, so 500 mA per port).

As for USB host controllers, each USB port has its own, regardless of the port being soldered to a female USB plug or not (again because this stuff is in the chipset). Sometimes there are some USB controller designs that decide to have more than a single controller, and have one for USB 1.1 devices (legacy) and one for USB 2.0 devices. These additional controllers for Win 7 have names like the ones you see (those are generic names for a catch-all driver).

The communication is USB device-USB controller-USB root hub-RAM-CPU, and is in packets as it's easier to find mistakes and correct them that way. There are a few different packets depending on what is the usage.

Hi!

Can anybody help me point out - there I can find more info about Intel AHA (advanced hub architecture) AKA Intel hub bus, which connect North and South bridges in new Intel chipsets? Intel chipset datasheets tell about it only a few words. No detailed specification, no protocol. And I couldn't find on http://developer.intel.com/ any service, to whom I can address my questions.

Thank you in advance.

Hey all I ve come across a situation that I ve never really thought about Where do you to find for management software tiered content - Looking architecture enterprise level software I m looking for a particular type of software searching the net on various key-words have proven fruitless I hope that this is a place that can help me I have a requirement to find a software that is like a content-management-system like an ERP like a data repository Think of it like this It is hard to describe exactily what the company does but let me give it a shot In a nutshell we provide canned corporate training based on the needs of the corporation First someone sales business goes to a corporation and understands the training needs they require based on various elements company size company type structure etc We have a set of pre-built templates that are used to build a new request off of they look like this - Template Standard Windows Training ---- Microsoft Office -------- Microsoft Excel ---------------- Excel PDF ---------------- Excel Beginner s Guide Looking for software - tiered architecture content management AVI ---------------- Excel Advanced PDF ---------------- Excel Advanced Macros PDF -------- Microsoft Word ---------------- Word PDF -------- Microsoft Powerpoint ---------------- Powerpoint PDF -------- Microsoft Access ---------------- Access PDF - Template HR Compliance Training ---- Relationships -------- National ---------------- Working with people PDF Looking for software - tiered architecture content management -------- International ---------------- Working with people from other cultures PDF ---- Policy -------- Corporate Policy ---------------- The Dangers of Looking for software - tiered architecture content management Moonlighting AVI ---------------- How to keep your job AVI Overall we are talking about a -tiered architecture What people do is for each Company they will choose one or more of those templates and then check the options that apply for that Client Client A my want windows training but they may not be interested in Excel at all but they may want some Corporate Policy included This would get saved as a new entry with copies of each of the selected nodes These nodes could be edited without changing the template For example they might want to call quot The Dangers of Moonlighting quot quot The Dangers of working off-hours quot or other such details Effectivley this is just data And we need this to revolve around a super slick interface Something that is easy for an end user to use without much training So they can add these nodes move the nodes around translate the nodes into new languages Some of those nodes are quot rich text quot - meaning instead of a direct link to a PDF AVI file it is actual content stored html in the database Multi-lingual is a MUST The company has been focused in looking for software in their industry but I ve been thinking that this tiered-data-architecure must exist in other industries maybe there is something out there we can use as a basis Is there a term for this type of software It isn t really a content management system but it kind of is CMSes like Drupal are waaay to free-form and I haven t seen good multi-lingual support In order to do something like this easily in Drupal with a very slick UI it d most-likely need to be built from the ground up IMHO The same goes for most other systems They aren t designed around this so things like Translation feel Clunky Again any help would be most appreciated And if this isn t the correct place do you have any ideas where a question like this could be posted nbsp

Thank you

I was looking through some code from a couple of years ago and I realized I have about of the work done on this I know there are a lot of power Access users on the board and I thought I d size up the interest to see whether finishing the project is worthwhile Basically it is a class module with a table indexing algorithm and a string soundex parser that search 9.0+/Jet 4.0 architecture Google-type Access for can search for any literal or similar-sounding value or group of values in any field in every record My original idea was to have a Google-type search for Access 9.0+/Jet 4.0 architecture query form that built tabbed subforms for every table in which a match was found so that users could easily browse records by table but I think it would be better to leave the extension up to whoever adopts it Based on concept and beta testing it works wonderfully All that remains is marrying the class to a form wrapper so s to display the results Anyway if I end up doing it I ll post the code and some documentation along with a sample database as open ish ware So is anybody interested in the project Google-type search for Access 9.0+/Jet 4.0 architecture The architecture s so outmoded it almost seems like wasted effort I d like to hear some input from Access developers as well as Access users It s important to remember this isn t a query builder it s a Google search The original application was to search for product manufacturers and product types in a market research database Thanks for the feedback chris nbsp

One of the things I first noticed in Windows is how now there are many quot hidden quot processes not shown in the normal tab of Task Manager and instead lumped into the quot Services quot tab yet still somehow connected or underneath the 'umbrella' of other processes I used to know all the processes that new process the Windows of 7 CSRSS.exe and Unravelling architecture run in Windows and which I could kill and which I couldn't After this Services tab I've kinda given up on that due to the sheer number I hope to help change that with this thread Finally deciding to create a whitelist in my head of these Services like I used to have Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7 for all Windows processes The first problem I'm noticing is that if a service is loaded under a critical process like CSRSS exe then there is no obvious way to kill it What is the way around this This seems like a huge security vulnerability because what if a virus installs to being under the 'umbrella' of CSRSS exe There is an anti-cheat program called PunkBuster that is needed to play games like Battlefield I noticed that PnkBstrA is part of the CSRSS exe I decided to reinstall this game tonight as well as Punkbuster and Origin both software related to this game only Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7 for me After uninstalling all software deleting all Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7 related folders from my HD and deleting all leftover registry keys related to them and parent companies I noticed PnkBstrA was somehow STILL running I hit Stop process nothing I hit Go To Process and it took me to CSRSS exe well darn I know from experience you can't kill CSRSS exe and expect Windows to keep running I'm amazed at this I did not think it was possible for anything to survive in Windows after uninstall file delete registry key delete Anyways I was already minutes into downloading the game files when I noticed this so I'm going to have to just hope its a quot clean quot re-installation and overlook this Mainly posting this out of curiosity and hoping to pick up a couple of pointers that might help me in the future manually remove advanced viruses that take advantage of this vulnerability TL DR How can you kill a non-windows service that has itself injected into an essential windows service other than via taskmgr since that doesn't always work correctly

A:Unravelling CSRSS.exe and the new process architecture of Windows 7

I would think that the uninstallation simply wasn't as thorough as it should've been. Did you reboot after uninstalling everything? Was that when you found Punkbuster still running?

I'd simply search the entire system drive for any occurrences of "PnkBstrA" and see what it comes up with. There might yet be something left to uninstall separately.
If not, you could try deleting whichever file you find; if it won't let you because the file is in use, try something like Unlocker to schedule deletion on the next restart.

Make sure to create a system restore point first, just in case this somehow breaks csrss.exe badly enough to prevent Windows from starting up again.

Another thought: is there any PunkBuster-related service listed under Administrative Tools -> Services?

Hello friends,

I'm just doing some research, well, actually that's not correct. I'm trying to do research on the way that ports are controlled in windows XP. Here are my questions:

1. Is the firewall the only part of the operating system that controls ports?
2. How many ports are available for use on an XP system?
3. I was told somewhere that there are 65,000+ ports on any given XP machine, does this include printer/udp/tcp/software ports?
4. What different kind of ports are there in windows?
That's all for now I think!

Thanks,

This is a problem, because I found out that microsoft does not offer the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) as a public download.

Does anyone know where I can download the UAA driver?
Is there any free way of obtaining the UAA driver? or a free way of contacting microsoft to obtain the UAA that anyone knows about? I have checked both the HP website and Microsoft Website and have not found any solution yet. Any suggestions?

When trying to install Photoshop Album 1.0, I receive this message, "This operating system is not supported by Adobe Photoshop Album. We support Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 , XP Intel Pentium III or 4 processor".

Could my problem with installation be the Athlon processor? When purchasing this computer, our salesman convinced us that the Athlon was just as good as the Pentinum Processor. Any thoughts on this? My computer is less than a week old and having serious thoughts about returning it. I have had problems with other installations. Am I to expect more problems with software and the Athlon processor. Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated. I am getting desperate for advice about the processor.

A:Athlon Processor versus Pentinum Processor in Windows XP

What the message is telling you is that Windows Media Center Edition 2005 is not one of the operating systems that Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0 supports. It has nothing to do with whether an Intel processor or an AMD processor is installed. I checked the system requirements for the newer version 2.0, and it also is not supported by Windows MCE 2005.

By the way, Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0 has a 13.5 MB patch for it and will upgrade it to version 1.0.1. You can get it from here.

In a word nothing, the centrino branding does not refer to any specific additions to the processor, it is simply a label that is attached to laptops which use intel branded processor, integrated graphics and wireless chips.

Centrino is more of a marketing tool that Intel use to boost sales of their graphics and wireless chips, so you can pretty much ignore it

I need to order a new desktop for my office to replace a 3 year old machine that runs at 3.2 Ghz. The new machines that Dell offers only has this option:

Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700 (8MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB)

I don't think there is a standard measuring stick that is used to compare all the processor speeds that I can find or understand. I work with CAD programs that use up a lot of resources and I typically get the fastest available and max the RAM. With all the latest software that I have to install, I need the new machines to run faster than the ones they replace.

Can anyone tell me how this 2.66GHz processor compares to my current machine? I don't have the exact specs for it, this is what it lists on the dell support site for my system - PROCESSOR, 80532K, 3.2GHZ, 1M, 533, M0.

Hello everyone,

I want to build a new system, and I was wondering just what the differences between a sever processor and a desktop processor are.

Would I see gaming performance decrease by using a Quad Server Core or a Quad Desktop Core?

I wanted to build a dual socket server core and have 8 physical cores.

Thoughts?

A:Server Processor Vs. Desktop Processor

I dont think any games are designed to take advantage of a dual socket setup. Windows Server OS's are designed to take advantage of dual socket setups. Some newer games are coming out which take advantage of single socket dual or quad core setups on desktops. A server based PC would not gain any performance for games IMO. You are better off investing the extra $ in a good video card.

Your question does not really have a definitive answer; it is too vague. We would need to know what the intended use of the system is to be ie are you intending on gaming, doing video editing, just email/web surfing, what?

It is somewhat like asking "What is the best car" Well there are a lot of cars and they have different attributes such as a sports car might not be the best choice for an area that gets a LOT of snow. If that were the case, a 4x4 truck would be "Better" than the sports car.

I'm thinking of putting a 64-bit processor into my computer. Can I run 32-bit applications/OS's on a 64-bit processor without run an emulation program or taking a hit in performance (I heard somewhere that you needed an emulator that hogs resources)? Thanks.

A:64-bit processors

As far as I`m aware, there should be no problem running 32bit apps with a 64bit processor. And as for an emulator I`ve never heard of one being needed.

i have a single core intel pentium 4 3.00 ghz processor. under device properties, it is listed twice, does this mean i have two or is this just a mistake?

(this sounds like a stupid question, but i know not the first thing about computers)

A:2 processors??

It has what is called Hyperthreading, it will show as two processors.

The only stupid question is the one that never gets asked.
