Preferred Solution: Windows media player icon not showing in taskbar.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On the taskbar after I installed malwarebytes anti malware, the icon becomes one of those blank program icons.

How can I bring the right icon back? The original icon is also like this too. It happened minutes after I installed it.

Thanks!

A:MalwareBytes icon not showing in taskbar Windows 7

Hi Jemi200,

If you right click on Malwarebytes and select 'Properties', then under the 'Shortcut' tab click on 'Change Icon' at the bottom. You should see the Malwarebytes icon there. Select it and hit OK, Apply and OK.

See if that helps.

It's been couple of days since I upgraded my system to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Everything is working fine except this nasty error. If I pin apps to taskbar or run apps , the app icons on the taskbar are shown as white square. And I am seeing the same thing on Apps & Feature settings list. The icons are there but as the backgrounds are shown as grey-white chequered pattern (for the transparency ), it looks like white squares. Rebuilt the icon cache but to no avail. And on the start menu everything looks fine.

I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.

Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

Here's what I mean in graphic form:

It's bugging me to no end. Anyone else had this problem/resolved it?

A:Toolbar on taskbar should only be showing an arrow but is showing icon

Hello thewonkits, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I notice this happens when using small icons for a toolbar. If you like, you could unlock the taskbar, right click on the dotted separator line to the left of the two top far left toolbars (one at a time) click on View and Large Icons, then lock the taskbar to see if that may look ok to you. It will make the top row a bit bigger though.

Hopefully someone may know a better way to hide that bit of icon poking out when locked.

Hey everyone.

I'm having some problems with my windows media player. I don't normally use my computer to play music but recently i have brought some new speakers and would like to use the computer for music more often .

Right, a few weeks ago before i wasn't to bothered about WMP, i opened up an .mp3 file using WMP and the music etc would play accordingly however, when i attempted to close windows player, it would do so but the music would still carry on playing. I would eventually have to end the WMP process in task manager.

Lately, i have tried using WMP again but this time around, when opening .mp3 files, WMP wouldnt show up at all, just the music playing in the background and again, having to end the process in task manager. So why doesn't my WMP interface show up?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance,

James.

Hi, I just tried switching my default media player to 64 bit. Now when I right click on a video and go to open with I see Windows Media player listed twice. I don't know if they are the same or if one is 32 bit and the other 64 as they don't specify. I used this tip here to switch http://www.windows-now.com/blogs/chris123nt/archive/2006/10/10/WMP-on-Vista-x64.aspx

Hi I'm really sad that Windows Media Player in Windows don't have the quot classic quot preview in taskbar When I minimize WMP and I want to change to another song I can't view the name of the song because the taskbar preview is too small to read the letters I don't wanted to downgrade do WMP and I've Windows Player Taskbar Media downloaded the usual minibar of WMP to WMP but it sucks because is not of the same height of the Windows taskbar So I downloaded this gadget Download Media Player Vista Gadget - This gadget allows you to search the WMP libarary Windows Media Player Taskbar straight from your desktop - Softpedia and it's really awesome I can see what I want and I can view the library in that little left arrow It's really Windows Media Player Taskbar great But it's a gadget And everytime I want to listen some music I need to open the Gadgets Menu and Windows Media Player Taskbar select this gadget It's really boring And besides I can't minimize it because it's a gadget So I'm wondering if it's something similiar to this gadget but to put in the taskbar or if it's possible to put the gadget in that WMP preview Waiting for an anwser and sorry for my english Thanks

While looking through the thread of people showing their desktops, I seen one desktop and it looked as though Windows Media Player was imbedded within the taskbar along the bottom of the screen near the right hand side of the screen. It showed the typical buttons.

I have windows vista, since the begining I was using WMP to view videos I recorded with my digital camera. All was well and good until my friend gave me a couple vid clips from his digital camera in .mov format. WMP would not recognize the vids, so I downloaded Quicktime in order to view them. Well, I like WMP a lot better then quicktime, but now for some reason I can only watch my vids in QT, if I open them in WMP they will play the Audio, but it no longer displays the video. WMP SHOULD still be the default video player as I did not tell QT to make them defaults when I downloaded it.

I'm sure the solution is a simple one, but I'm stumped....

A:Windows Media Player Not Showing Videos

It might have happened by accident. Quicktime can be very sneaky. All of these apps have Options tabs so you have to go into WMP or Quicktime and enable or disable default depending on what you find.

so, i think the problem is bc i installed the service pack 2 update for vista. ever since then, none of my songs show up in the library of wmp. i've tried to manually add the folders that my songs are in to the library, but that doesn't work. wmp will play my songs if i drag them into the player, but they don't go into my actual library. they just temporarily stay in the 'now playing' list until i close out of the program. does anyone know what's wrong with my player?

Doesn't seem to be possible to uninstall WMP 11 in Vista.

Do you have a restore point to roll back to.

You could try posting in the Windows Vista forum.

If you look in the Windows 7 forum, the general consensus seems to be that a complete install of Windows 7
is preferable to any kind of 'upgrade'.

A:Windows Media Player having trouble hiding to taskbar

To do so, you simple can run a program called regsvr32 in the run prompt in the start menu. Tell it to run: regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpband.dll

If that doesn't work , simply copy the file (wmpband.dll) from the media player folder, and paste a copy directly in the C: folder. Then do the run command again: regsvr32 C:\wmpband.dll

The second option worked for me (it will tell you if it was successful or if it failed). Then, restart Windows Media Player, right click the taskbar, go to toolbar, and the Windows Media Player should be back.

Hi Peter !

I dont have any answer for your first question . Actually I am also searching for it

But there may be a way to remove all the pictures from WMP library. Right click on the picture tab in the left navigation pane, select customize navigation pane, and uncheck picture there . Now click ok .

No more pictures are there

You may see the snips . Snip 1 : Right click and Customize navigation pane
Snip 2 : Uncheck pictures . Be careful ... at first click, it will remove the square, but check all boxes under pictures. you need to have a second click
Snip 3: Nevigate to some other library, and there is no pictures at all

On windows 8.1, my taskbar, one day, suddenly stopped displaying the audio icon on the taskbar. When I right click it, go to the properties, and click customize, it doesn't show the audio icon as an option. When I click, "turn system icons on or off," I can see the audio icon, but it is locked to off. I don't know where to look from here.

A:[SOLVED] Not Showing Audio Icon On Taskbar

Method 1:
There is no option available in control panel volume settings to show volume icon like earlier operating system. In Windows 8 and 8.1 you can enable volume icon by modifying ?Turn system icons on or off? option.
Right click on or near time clock in notification area and select Properties.

Make sure Volume icon is set ?On? as shown below, if it were off, make it on to show volume icon.

If the above step hasn?t help, ?Restore default icon behaviors? which may bring back the missing icon.

This is the normal procedure to get back the volume icon. In case the Volume icon option ( on/off) grayed out and you can?t change it, then follow the method 2.

Method 2: If volume icon is missing and you can?t enable it from ?Turn system icons on or off? area, then that could be an issue with explorer process. The following two methods can solve the issue.
a) Kill the explorer.exe from Processes or Details tab under task manager. Find out all explorer.exe and kill them, make sure no explorer.exe is running in the task manager. After that, on the file menu select new process or Run (or new tasks), type ?explorer? and press OK. It will start the new explorer process. That should bring back the volume icon, if it hasn?t, redo the method 1

This method has brought back missing volume icon on my Windows 8.1 computer.
b) Registry modification- Its recommended to take a backup before modifying registry.
Open registry editor in Windows and find out;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

After modifying registry keys, you need to kill and restart the explorer.exe process to take effect.

actually i dont know in which category i should post this threat. so i posted it in general category.

i have installed Windows 8 on my notebook few days back. I didnt paid much attention in the starting but now it gives me trouble when my battery status is not being shown on the notification area on the taskbar. Is there any solution?

A:Battery icon not showing up in taskbar notification area.

Yep, right click on the Taskbar, Properties, and you should see Notification area. Click on Customize... It brings up the Control Panel and you should see blue text saying Turn system icons on or off. Click that. You should see the battery icon and be able to change that to on.

Hi,

I suspect this is related to your malware problem you had here:

The windows security center service is turned off.

Which virus were you infected with? How did you re-enable Security Centre in that thread?

I've tried everything to get it back. In my network connections, it only shows my local area connection. I can't connect to a wireless network, and my wifi light on my keyboard isn't even lit.
I don't have any switches or buttons on my keyboard either that would allow me to enable or disable wireless internet.
I do have a wireless card built into my computer, and I have been able to connect to wireless networks for the three years that I've owned this laptop. It basically just stopped working a few weeks ago.
By the way, it's Windows XP. Anyone have any idea how to get my Wifi back?

hi all,

I have a dual monitor setup and my video is a black screen in wmp. I have read about hardware acceleration, and I went to my display settings in vista through the desktop, but the 'change' button is greyed out. the message says that my current driver doesn't allow changes. that was on the 'troubleshoot' tab, as described here: http://www.deskshare.com/resources/articles/dmc_turnoffhardwareacceleration.aspx

Could some perhaps shed some more light on this for me please? I have a connector device between my laptop and the external, which has it's own software and driver, of course. Would that be my issue? Or are there other factors I've not researched yet?? thanks!

Hi Guys,

I've been searching the net for a problem like my DVD playback problem on WMP 10 (I'm on XP) and can't seem to find one. Here it is:

--> I'm using Windows Media Player 10 for playing DVDs since my PowerDVD has poor video output (same with the DiVx player where brightness is really dull). The WMP 10 works fine until suddenly the other day, the playlist editor won't show the DVD chapter titles. The seek bar is also somewhat locked (yet video playback runs fine).
I can't select scenes, I have to let the DVD play until I get to that part. The help file says that some DVDs may not have markers, but I've already tried playing the DVDs that did show their chapter titles before. At least, I want to scroll through the movie using the seekbar. Looking forward for your help...Thanks!

You know, the small icon that appears in your taskbar when connecting a USB device? It no longer shows up, so now I have to go to Windows Explorer and click "Eject" directly on the USB device. How can I have this icon re-appear?

It's the one that let's you select your USB device to "Safely remove device".

if it is not just 'hidden', try this

Start, Run, paste this line and click OK:

This will bring up the add remove wizard. When I did this, it actually put the icon back in my task bar as soon as I removed my USB drive.

I'm not sure about them, but I downloaded the zip file and unzipped to a folder. After running mpc-hc.exe, in the options I checked, use ini file. That way no installation is necessary, and minimal changes, if any, are made to your computer.

The icon library is probably a way to index all your video file, an organizer.

Let's fix the duplicate icon first, open Firefox from the pinned icon you have already after the second one opens up unpin the first one and pin the second one that should stop the duplicate icon.

Now the icon go to C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar then right-click on the Firefox shortcut click on properties make sure you're in the Shortcut tab and click on the Change Icon Button. After you open up Firefox again icon will revert back to the default icon because it opens up Firefox.exe you would have to change the icon in the .exe for a permanent change.

A:Need a stable plugin or codec for Windows Media Player 10 for Real Player web content

Not sure of a plugin for WMP but I use a program called Real Alternative, it plays RMV files faultlessly.

Windows Media Player sounds somewhat distorted but when I play music in the Zune player, it sounds fine. Why would that be? This would be on a new Dell Inspriron 530 desktop bought in June 08 with Windows XP Pro. Thanks so much.

Hi,

I've been having problems listening to music on windows media player and watching flash videos. The playback is choppy (sometimes gets stuck and generally bounces around) but also my system seems to take an age to start up and is slow.

I've run disk-defragmentor, scandisk, spybot, adaware, AVG etc. But no luck.

This has come about since I've put about 20GB of music onto my laptop (I still have around 47GB of 70GB free). However, when Windows Media Player is not open the system still runs slowly and I have no luck running flash videos.

The only possible solution I can think of is deleting the music but I'm a bit hesitatant to do so because it took me ages to put it on!

Anyway, thanks very much for any help you can give me!

I have two pcs on a wireless network connected to a cable modem. One pc (Thinkpad) has no problem playing internet radio stations through wmp. The other one (Dell 4100) has problems with streaming audio. It can connect to the radio station fine (or download the audio file in either format) but then it keeps buffering while it's playing. I've tried just about everything I can find to fix it: editing the registry (MSoft tech note,) changing the network settings, changing the buffer rate but nothing seems to work. There is more than enough bandwidth to handle the flow of data, plus my cable company says it's not them (of course.) Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi: I was trying to record from a radio station a recording of someone I know who has written a music piece and by mistake I saw urge and downloaded the program. When I realized I did not want this program, I deleted it. There was a message not to do it--that it would block other users from logging onto the computer (Which is a violation of the anti-trust laws) however, I did not listen and deleted the entire program from the program files. Now I cannot get any music from the radio site and it has blocked real player. MSN should be sued again.HELP!!!

Hi,
I captured an AVI file from my DVD player using my video card. My Real Player and Windows Media Player won't place this DVD clip. Someone said I need codecs.
1. what are they?
2. where to get them?
3. how to use that to convert the file to some other format?
4. what formats do Real Player and Windows Media Player support?
4a. Is there another downloadable DVD player that will play the AVI file as is?
5. I also tried to burn this AVI file using Nero but when I tried to drag the file to the proper place, I encountered problems. What could be the issue here?
6. I have been told in another forum that my CD burner can burn a DVD file on DVD media if the format is proper. What format is needed? Is this another codec issue? (Nero says it needs AVI and that is what my file is).
Thanks

Depending on the file the might not work
unless you talking about converting them

If you can play them on media player

Highlight the File
hold down the shift key
And Right Click

Now use open with
The goto media player
and check the always use box
If you always want to use it to open

Hi everyone!

When I find a media file (video file, for example) and double click it, the Media Player doesn't start at all...

I tried to re-associate the Windows Media Player to it's default media extensions through "Default Programs" , and it doesn't work...

All media files play normally on other players. I have to state that sometimes I get the message: "The file.... The parameter is incorrect".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless guys! Take care!

I was wondering if there was a way to rip media off the web, from sites that run the windows media player firefox plugin to play the clip. I need to rip a clip off there for a school project, this is the linkhttp://archives.cbc.ca/politics/provincial_territorial_politics/clips/776/

To my knowledge this is not illegal, anyway I can't find any way of doing it, I have a firefox plugin that does it for most media, but not for this one, I've tried looking in the source code for the file, making a HTML file with the link and then saving as.... but nothing works, so I don't know, any body have anything?

ok (as you my know by know i rarther hate windows media player)

well basicly i have loads of .mp3 files in my Docs and my music folders, there not all music files, when windows media sees them it ads them to libary, Annoyingly, i manages to stop it downloading extra info like album art (cos its soo stupid, it gets it wrong like 95% of the time lol) but it keeps adding every thing back to the libary even if i delete them from it, its soo annoying any!! surgestions please?

A:Solved: Stop Windows Media Player Automaticly ading media files to libary

In WMP go to Tools > Options and uncheck all the boxes in the Player tab, Privacy tab and Library tab.

In the Library tab click on Monitor Folders and set the top part to "My personal folders", then click on Advanced Options.

Set all the folders to "Ignore". Unfortunately you can't set the Rip folder to "Ignore" so for that go to the Rip music tab, where it says "Rip music to this location" click on Change and create an empty folder somewhere. Then just never add any music files to that folder.

Then delete everything out of the WMP library and it should remain empty.

Well, I'm not sure what to do here. Up until a few days ago I was sharing my media with all computers on my network on my wireless router.

Now when I log into windows and open WMP 11 it says that I am no longer sharing media, would you like to turn on sharing? So I say yes and confirm to share my media to all devices on my network, mainly my PS3.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (well it actually just reverted back). I also checked to make sure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is set to automatic in Admin tools. And also checked windows firewall that it allows the service.

So I am at a loss here, I don't know how to get my media sharing capabilites back. I know its not my PS3, as I am sharing media from my laptop right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks High

Funny thing is IPSEC Services do not have to be disabled in XP.

Hope this helps someone.

Every since January th of this year I have been trying to fix a very annoying issue with windows media player How It Started Back in January my dad's computer constantly kept freezing over and over due to him having way to many podcast on his computer I'm the only one who knew how to fix it from crashing and so I tried to delete some of the memory off the computer however when the memory was low I noticed sharing turn Windows refuses Player media Media on to that a few programs including media player were not functioning correctly I was able to fix them but then I noticed that media player's entire library was missing which Windows Media Player refuses to turn on media sharing made me think if I restarted the computer it would fix it Sadly it didn't but I was able to find tutorials on how to restore the library back to MP but the thing is before I attempted that I went into media player with administrator on in hopes it Windows Media Player refuses to turn on media sharing would make a change Of course it didn't Windows Media Player refuses to turn on media sharing but now there's a issue that I face and I keep running into dead ends Every single time I try to turn on media sharing in the WMP library when I check both options and then click ok it doesn't do anything No matter how many times I try to press it nothing happens and also what I find strange is that the ok button has a administrator prompt shield on it now Kind of like it's trying to ask for permission but fails before it can do that The solutions I have tried I have tried dozens of solutions and yet none of them fix the issue I tried using regedit exe and tried fixing it's registry but that didn't do anything I tried fully resetting WMP entirely but that doesn't work either nor does using service msc The only lead I have that something may be broken is that when I looked inside service WMP Network Sharing Service cannot startup At this point I'm pretty burned out of ideas and nbsp this may be the most confusing bug I've ever faced And now since Media sharing doesn't work I can't stream music to my xbox If you somehow know the solution please tell me
