Need help in choosing the right Motherboard

Q: Need help in choosing the right Motherboard

Hi,
I want to buy the FX-6300 CPU.(AM3+ socket)
I would like your help in choosing the right motherboard for it.
I will use it for gaming.
My budget is low and these are my choices:
-GIGABYTE MB GA-970A-DS3
-Asus M5A97 R2.0
-Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0
Which one is the best one from these three?
Can you arrange them from the best to the worst?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok, I've decided with some help that I need to build myself a new system. Haven't really decided on the specs yet other then it has to be an AMD 64/X2 processor on an NForce4 chipset based motherboard, and the rest I'll work out as soon as I decide on the motherboard.

But thats the problem, I'm not sure which motherboard to go for. I know I'll never use SLI and other 'extras' like Firewire and good quality audio aren't important to me either. What I want is a really good quality motherboard with good overclocking potential. But at the same time I don't want to spend $250(U.S. $) on it.

So what I'm looking for are opinions and I'll appreciate any and all suggestions.

I've got a Compaq Presario SA4000T, Product # P8657L.

Forum members have helped me find out its MOB cannot take beyond a P4.

I've decided to investigate upgrading to a dual-core capable MOB and CPU and reuse everything else from the Presario.

I know a new MOB needs to be the right form-factor, but what else do I need to look for so the new MOB fits, and can hook up to all the connectors on the case (like firewire, the "7in 1" media card adapter, etc.)?

A:Need help choosing motherboard and RAM...

mobos

Both mobos look good. Abit has a good rep- made by ASUS, I think. Don't quote me. The Intel 865PE chipset supports 400 ( i have that chipset on my ASUS p5p800). I have not owned an Abit, but I have had an MSI. It was a great, stable board. Your CPU will determine the FSB, so if it's speed is 533, chipset won't matter, in that regard, I don't think.

If I was choosing, I would go for the MSI, if for no other reason than the third DIMM slot. Room for more RAM! Speaking of which, Corsair is an excellent brand.

As to OC'ing, I can't help, cuz I don't game, or OC. :grinthumb

I was irritated due to the hassles and delays that I have been having, getting a refund on the purchase of an Asus M4A89GTD, but when I just started looking for another source, I checked the most negative reviews on it at Amazon:

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 Socket AM3 AMD 890GX/SB850 6 SATA USB 3.0 ATX Motherboard

And it appears that it may have been for the best. However my dilemma now is trying to find an alternative motherboard of the same capabilities and price range.

It took me a long time to pick this MB, and I really need some suggestions for a new choice, otherwise I may never get my new build finished.

A:Help with choosing a motherboard

Welcome to Techspot.

I would also like to set up the case to allow front USB connectors. How would I go about doing that?Click to expand...

Just get a case that has front usb ports built in and a motherboard with a usb header and connect the two according to the motherboard/case manuals.
If the case has no front usb, you can add them anyway via a front panel add in bay with usb ports on it. These can go in floppy bays or cd drive bays.

Is your ram a 1gb stick or a 1gb kit(2 512mb sticks)? It'd be better to get a kit with two matched sticks so you can run them in dual channel mode.

The video should be fine for basic 2d tasks, but if it will ever be used for any games/3d modeling, etc, then I'd get a better video card. Some nforce 4 boards have issues using pci cards, so I've heard as well.
I think for the same price you can get a much faster card with more memory that's pci-express based.
For example, this.

The matrox may have better 2d rendering though.

I wouldn't trust a powmax or a coolmax brand psu.
Both are listed as "uncrupulous" makes at the famous "psu thread" at hardforum.

It's very well reviewed.

You shouldn't need much else for the pc, the hd cable should be with the motherboard, the cd drive cable comes with the motherboard. I think you might need to only buy some cooling fans.
It looks like the case can support one 80mm, 92mm, or 120mm fan in the back(120mm would be best), and it appears like it supports two 80mm fans in the front of the case for intake. I'd suggest getting a quiet 80mm for intake and a quiet 120mm fan for exhaust. It comes with a side panel fan(80mm) for intake as well(it could be a really junky fan though).

Hi

I am building a new computer for a home office. I need help choosing a motherboard. After a lot of research, much of which I didn't quite understand, I have narrowed it down to either a

Asus A8V-DX K8T800 Pro S939

or

Asus K8N-E Deluxe NF3 S754

I was thinking that perhaps the A8V would be the way to go because that is the one that Asus will continue to support. It also has a built in modem ([email protected]) that I find appealing.

I like the K8N because of the built in firewall and also because of the nforce architecture which I was told was the superior one.

I would very much appreciate your thoughts. I am open to other suggestions if you think that yet another motherboard is better.

Thanks!!

Who's to say what the latest trends and new technology will be in 2 or 3 years....so no suggestions can be given on what might be.

That being said, I recommend going with Intel Z170 based mobo, either an Asus or Gigabyte (I'm partial to Gigabyte) gaming mobo and a Intel i7 skylake CPU. Then get the new GTX 1080 GPU......then some DDR4 3200mhz or higher 16 GB Corsair Dominator RAM. Then go with a Noctua CPU Cooler for air cooling or the Corsair H100i AIO (water cooled) cooler.

I have a GTX 670 in the box, I have a I7 - 3770k processor on its way via UPS. next I need a motherboard, I understand the GTX is pci express 3.0, any suggestions on motherboards budget ~$200? thx in advance

A:Help choosing a motherboard for i7-3770k

I've renamed the thread to something more suitable, as that will help with responses.

It would be helpful to know what features you desire as well. Do you need a minimum number of SATA ports, a certain number of PCI-E lanes? The motherboard you choose for your budget depends on several factors, its not just a case of getting the one closest to your budget.

I dont know a lot about computers so my friend is helping me build one. I just wanted to know what motherboard I should choose. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking in the range of $200-$300.

A:building computer and need help choosing a motherboard

Sorry, but you need to give much more information, like what type of cpu you want, amd or intel. What socket type? Intel can be socket 478 or 775(aka"T"). Amd can be socket A, 754, 940, or 939.

What do you want to do with this computer? Will this be just a motherboard replacement or a new sytem build?

$200-300 is a lot of money, many motherboards are about $100(usd) or less, with the performance boards reaching $200+. With $300 you can get a decent cpu and a motherboard.(like an amd 939 athlon 64 3000+ is about $150, and a 939 motherboard based on nforce 4 ultra would be about $85-150).

Hi, currently we have a 2.4ghz duo core (intel core 2 duo). We are working on a budget of around Ģ150 to completely upgrade the motherboard and processor, we already upgraded the graphics card and power supply last year so these are fine. We have seen quad core and 6 core on ebay for around Ģ130....is this a good option? We are aiming to run 64bit windows 7 possibly vista.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have attached my dxdiag file to this post if you need anymore info.

Wow, dump the 12gb of RAM and expensive motherboard, and throw in a GTX 5870. IMO worth it to step down to P55 and go with a GTX 480.

Hello, right now i'm aiming at the Asrock z77 extreme4 it has a nice 8+4 power phase, pci-e 3.0 support, pretty nice overclocking board. The question, is there a better opinion for a bit lower price? I won't use crossfire or sli, so it seems useless for me on this board so if there is a better opinion it can be without sli/crossfire.

A:Choosing budget Gaming motherboard

I go to www.newegg.com for a quick look at what's currently available. (Unfortunately, they only do business in the USA and Canada.)

It appears that the best bargain in a Z77 board is the ASRock Z77 Pro3. It has slightly unusual dimensions (30.5X19.3cm, rather than 30.5X24.4cm for a full-sized ATX board), but it's not microATX. I'm not sure what you give up with it, but it has favorable reviews for a "budget" board. At Newegg, it's considerably less expensive than the Extreme4.

I've not used one.

Hello I am thinking of building a decent gaming machine. I have a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 picked out (any comments or advice helpful) and I had some Kingston HyperX memory picked out. But after looking at the manual i see that they have a very limited memory supply that is allowed. And I cant seem to find any of the memory online.

I am wanting to put 2GB in, (2x1GB) DDR2 800. Was hoping kingston. Does any have any suggestions or recommendations of memory that would work with this board.

By the way I will be putting a Core2 duo 6600 in with a 7900GS, still looking at power supplys, and now just looking for some ram that will hold up to gaming and heavy program use.

Thanks for all the help.

A:Help choosing the right pc

the 1st problem you have is the links dont work, the 2nd is there are no expansion slots on any of them for grafix you will need at least an 4x/8x agp slot, pci express 16x even better, the Sempron is probably a 754 socket which if it had a good mobo with a gfx slot wouldnt be to bad, the Dell? forget it, the Celeron???, youre kidding. So none of the above. If youre on a real tight budget, you can get a socket 754 but you would be much better off with a Athlon64 939pin mobo with a pcie16x slot so you can upgrade your video for gaming if you so desire.

I've seen a lot of posts about people having trouble with the 12v plug being under 20A on my board (KV8 pro 3rd-eye) On my Antec True430 it was at 26A but the Antec versions of this now wich are Truepower 2.0's they say they have duel 12v plugs for stability wich tend to be from 15A-18A or so, is this for newer boards that have duel 12v slots or something else? I'm not sure what to do because I can't find an Antec PSU that even reaches 20A on the 12v plug. I've always used Antec and trust them, but if I have to go to another brand I'm up for sudgestions.

Those are for a 24 pin power supply that uses two 12V rails. I believe your board uses an older 20 pin style ps. Here is a link to a 20 pin unit by coolmax. It has 35A on the 12V rail.

You can't do 'cheapest' and expect maximum performance. However, $400 isn't a bad budget and you should be looking at a GTX 770. Personally I'd look at an ASUS Direct CU II, if you're gaming on one monitor at 1080p then the 2GB version will be plenty, don't bother with the 4GB. It won't max out every single game at max (Crysis 3, Last Light, Witcher to name a few will tax it) but it will handle most of them and will give great performance.

Background:
Hey, I'm sort of a beginner at programming, I have a been programming for a couple of years in Flash using AS3 and would like to move onto something a bit bigger. Before/during my AS3 Era I gave VB.net a little go, and I am then followed Nick Gravelyns tile engine tutorial in C# using XNA framework. I have heard that all the big games use c++ and am interested in trying to learn this.

Actual Question:
So this leads me to this: What is a good c++ API for a beginner (at c++), which can do 2D, but 3D as well (for later, when I get better), is widely used and has a big community? while using c#, XNA Game Studio was perfect, is there something equivalent in c++???

Thanks in advance.

A:Need help with choosing RAM

In general you want to get two identical sticks. Anything else and you are putting yourself at risk of system instability.

That said, I have had some stable systems with mismatched ram, so it is not a rule set in stone so much as it is a high recommendation.

That mobo is an HP/Compaq motherboard isn't it?

Safest bet would be to look up your system specs and find out exactly what speed ram you have in there now, and get a matching stick.

Hey, so im in the market to upgrade my ram. I have a 680i mobo, and am currently running 2 gigs of OCZ at 5-4-4-12-2t 960, and to me they are just seeming to give out. I'm almost clueless when it comes to ram so help me out a little =], when i bought mine i just picked at random almost, then i started researching and overclocked them. I didn't know what 2t meant when i bought it, but now i know that i'll probably want 1t.

I've been looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145194

Hi, I know this question has been asked, but in my opinion, never fully answered, depending of where I look.

I bought a new system : gigabyte motherboard P35-DS3L, Dual Core E6750 FSB1333, 2x1Gb OCZ XTC Rev 2 4-4-4-15 PC 6400 RAM, MSI 8600GT Overclocked...

Now, I plan in "some" foreseeable future to add another 2 GB of RAM but not now, and I don't mind reformatting and start from scratch at any time...

Should I go 32 or 64 bit? All drivers are available for my stuff. Software too for the most part.

I heard 32bit runs faster than 64, and sometimes the opposite. What should I do?
Thanks in advance!

A:Help choosing 32/64...

well in my experience, run both 32 and 64 bit...64 bit being on my new computer...i seriously think 64 bit is more stable..there maybe a couple more error messages until you get the hotfixes and stuff but once you got it set..64 is way better...

its a personal opinion, also from the way your planning to add 4gb ram u will need 64 bit i believe..but if u dont mind completely reformatting it shouldnt matter for now

more importantly i need it to have the ability to turn off the center speaker channel and just split its sounds to the sides. that would work wonderfully.

The Creative Sound Blaster Live sound card is still available and is a decen 5.1 sound card. Even better if you can find a Sound Blaster Live Digital out of an old Dell computer. This card is much better and the drivers are still available for both of them on the Creative website.

I'm trying to decide which RAM or order, to go with a motherboard that I just ordered:

Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 Socket AM3/ AMD 890GX New Board - eBay (item 190510537291 end time Jun-07-11 12:46:06 PDT)

I came across some Patriot RAM that is attractively priced:

Patriot Viper II PGV34G1600ELK 4096MB PC12800 DDR3 Dual Channel Memory Upgrade - 4GB (2 x 2048MB), 1600MHz at TigerDirect.com

But it looks a bit strange with it's notched top edge. I don't want to make the decision based only on looks, so I'm posting in order to get some insight into whether this is my best choice?

This will also be used with an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor, if that makes any difference in choosing...also the function where I expect that these decisions may matter most, is for video encoding.

I want to upgrade my laptop (Dell Latitude d830) memory from 2 to 4 gb. On Crucial web site using the memory selector I have 2 choices at the 4gb range:
(2 x 2gb) 200 pin SO DIMM DDR2 at PC2 5400 cl 5 and 5-5-5-15 and PC 2 6400 cl6 respectively.

I found a Corsair same configuration PC2 6400 cl 5 @ 5-5-5-18 with better pricing. My question is can I use this memory with the higher DDR 2 800 speed, with the better or same latency/timing numbers without running into any problems?
Using the Corsair memory selector at 4gb they only recommend the PC2 5400, 5-5-5-15. What gives?

I have read and been told Corsair also is a very good brand but they have a very good price for these now and better #'s but I do not want to have any problems with install. Dell's certified memory prices are just ridiculous. I appreciate some insight and the help with this.

I do do some mathematical modelling, but even so I'm less interested in knowing how long it takes to calculate the next prime number under differing OSes and I'd rather know how long it takes to check my emails from a cold start.

Hello Techspot,

I was originally going to ditch my Macbook Pro for the newest model, but decided against due to the cost. However, I have decided that I'm going to upgrade my 5400RPM 320Gb HDD for an SSD so that I can get a performance increase. I have narrowed my results down to 2 SSD's, and I'm having trouble choosing.

I am not an expert when it comes to storage, so I need a bit of help with choosing . I am also open to new suggestions as long as they are in a similar price range.

Intel X-25M 120Gb

To use up all your money you could get the e6700 but its really not worth the $200 more for 200 mhz

Or you could get faster memory then what I reccomended, however there isnt much if any of a noticable performance increase....

Take the extra $200 and buy a slick case or a water cooling kit or somthing....IDK

Can anyone find me something from newegg.com that can do this without losing much quality during conversion.

A:Need help choosing

Just do a search on newegg for 'TV Tuner card'.

They range from $30-70+

I currently have a Leadtek card which has been working well for me. The picture quality is not as good as watching a real TV though. Guess you really can't expect that for only $40. Good enough to record my favorite weekly shows to watch and then delete afterwards though.

I believe there are models with 9 and 10 bit processors onsale now which should theoretically produce a better quality picture.

Leadtek, Asus, Prolink, and ATI seem to be the more reliable names in this category.

A:Choosing a different OS

What do you use office for? Is it just personal use or are you sharing what you work on to other people or collaboratively editing Office documents that you receive? You won't be running MS Office on any linux, so you'd have to use something like OpenOffice or LibreOffice or even Google Docs.

This site has some good lightweight linux distributions and I think that if you are going to continue to use that computer that going with linux is the safest thing to do from a security standpoint. Of those on that page I'd recommend Lubuntu or Puppy Linux.

It is important to understand that Linux is not Windows, and there will be a learning curve. Most people that try Linux bail at some point on that curve.
