Taskbar icons

Q: Taskbar icons

A few weeks ago I managed to change the shape of icons to show larger rectangles when the program was running. This is excellent and very helpful when shutting down windows as it shows which programs are still running. I wish to set it up for a friend but cannot remember how I achieved this.
Can anyone help please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Taskbar icons

if you right click on the task bar and click "properties", there is an option for Use Small Icons. if this is checked, uncheck it and hit apply. that increases the size of the taskbar icon...

is that you are referring to?

Hi all
(I'm italian, excuse me for my bad english).
I have a pc with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I have a problem with some icons on taskbar: sometimes some applications are displaying the wrong icons, sometimes, as you can see (screenshot), I don't see some icons: sometimes a few are missing (this time I have 8 icons of about 20!).

If I restart my pc, some icons return, but many still missing or are wrong!

So I launched this tool from microsof (I think it rebuilt icon cache, but I'm not sure): In Windows le icone vengono modificate in modo non corretto
but it doesnt' fix the problem, see this screenshot after using this tool from microsoft:

now as you can see some applications are displaying the wrong icons and 2 icons are still missing ...is there any fix for this problem? thanks!!

Vittorio.

This references showing Toolbar rows Icons Taskbar 3 2-line Taskbar Large small using Quick Launch Bar icons don't wrap even though there is room - a post by chillz which discovers a quot bug quot with the taskbar not resetting the row-sizing for toolbars when dragging the taskbar to the left then back to the bottom I for a while now have been using a custom quick-launch toolbar on my taskbar with the taskbar being unit-lines in height and having the taskbar on my secondary left monitor When I first set this up it showed lines of small icons in the toolbar and up to lines on the standard taskbar This was perfect because the toolbar didn't reset the order every time I launched an application contrary to how the pinned application system works With pinned applications no matter what position I drop the icon the order always resets and floats from place to place so that system of organizing icons is disgusting because you have apps between icons of apps that aren't running some times and other times the running applications are above and Taskbar Toolbar showing 3 small rows using Large Icons 2-line Taskbar below with or without grouping enabled The vertical display would be the ideal way for me to view unlaunched applications see aforementioned topic because they group together and launched apps come after in horizontal mode the taskbar is chaotic without a toolbar organizing the apps to one side but then you lose the functionality of the pinned-application system if you forfeit usage of that chaotic horizontal system in favor of how the vertical system works but in horizontal mode To the point After an update restart the toolbar reset and only showed lines despite there being more than enough room for rows of small icons I couldn't figure out what happened or what changed and then I read the aforementioned topic after some searching to find it actually worked Moving the taskbar to the left then back down resets the order so lines can be used on a line-unit height taskbar with large icons I would like to see several things fixed - Fix the chaotic organizing system of the horizontal taskbar to match the vertical display mode so pinned-apps are always on one side and use all lines while opened apps read like a book Other people will likely have a different opinion to this suggestion and I'd like to read them - Fix the toolbar icon organizational system so all space can be utilized without needing to move the taskbar each restart or update I have yet to restart since fixing the issue and I rarely restart as it is but others may not keep their pc running stressful on components to keep restarting Again I'd like to read others opinions on this but I'm sure most will agree on this point that unused space shouldn't be wasted Here we see all rows in my quick-launch toolbar Unfortunately without restarting or receiving a new update I can't reset the toolbar back to lines which is fantastic and I didn't take a screenshot prior to moving the taskbar to the left then back down but for simple effect imagine the top lines visibly the bottom invisible and an arrow on the right for extra icons and that is the default view You'll likely be able to repeat the effect if you don't have a toolbar and try it out

The drop down for show/hide etc is there for these items. After choosing Hide/No notifications and restarting, these items for uninstalled softwares are still there.

How do I permanently remove items in the Notification Area-customize box for these uninstalled softwares?

Hi everyone,

I'm having another complete nightmare problem on my brand new Dell XPS running Win x64 Ultimate.

When I try to customise what behaviour the various icons exhibit on the taskbar (and I'm taken to CONTROL PANEL- ALL CONTROL PANEL ITEMS-NOTIFICATION AREA ICONS), some of the icons are correct and truly represent the proramme which they are aligned with, but some are incorrect and some are blank and some are duplicates of icons for other programmes that are shown elsewhere.

I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing works.

Can anyone help, please?

Many thanks,

I created a few shortcuts from chrome and added them to my Taskbar for ease of use.

I created one for each of my multiple Gmail accounts etc and I changed their icons to something so I can identify which was which. The shortcut's took the icon and worked fine for a short period than I noticed every time I click on the icon after changing the default icon to my new one It would change the icon back to Gmails default one.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Hope I explained it properly.

A:TaskBar Icons Constantly Changing My Icons For Chrome any Help?

I noticed the same problem. I think the solution is to make the shortcut read only before you pin it to the task bar. I did this a few days ago and they seem to be keeping my new icon.
If you later want to unpin the shortcut from the taskbar you will need to remove the readonly check from the taskbar shortcut properties. Although it will unpin without doing this you will be left with the shortcut in the real folder and have to go there to physically delete it.

My problem is specific to the unpinned icons in Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit. The pinned applications stay put just fine. This problem started a couple of days ago.

It seems that, when I have multiple unpinned applications open, sometimes the icons of the unpinned applications move around at random times (it seems that the last active unpinned application moves to the right even though it wasn't the program opened last). And sometimes, when I have only one unpinned application on the taskbar, its icon seems to move from some slot to its right back in its position.

For some reason I suspect some malware or virus may be the cause.

I tried uninstalling ATI Radeon HD6450 drivers and reverting to an older version, as well as uninstalling every program that was installed since the day the problem started, to no avail. I found four malware in the meantime but even removing said malware did not solve my problem.

A:Unpinned taskbar icons moving around the taskbar

I don't think it's malware. If it's any consolation, my machine at work does this occasionally, and it's clean. I don't know what's causing it, but I've just chalked it up to being a quirk in Windows.

Hey Basically I am in the following situation I am a web developer - therefore I like taskbar lists, icons custom "modes"? with different or Taskbar to have applications such as Opera Firefox IETester FileZilla Visual Web Developer DreamWeaver and several other programs open at the same time I am currently revising for an exam - therefore I may need to have Opera Firefox Word Excel and several other programs open at the same time I sometimes like to watch films listen to music play games etc etc to chill Taskbar icons with custom lists, or different taskbar "modes"? out a bit - perhaps in a break from my revision In each of the Taskbar icons with custom lists, or different taskbar "modes"? three above situations I like to pin the icons to the taskbar Problem is that to have them all pinned to the taskbar would make it overflow - even with DisplayFusion installed with a taskbar on both screens Is there any way to group icons into one icon on the taskbar - so hovering over an icon called say Developer will bring up a list of Developer icons without having to open a window and open the programs from there Alternatively is there a way to change quot modes quot so that on clicking Developer from a list it will repopulate the taskbar with any programs I have previously added to the taskbar when in that mode I do not want to create a user account for each mode - thats just long If anyone knows of a way to do this or a program which may be able to achieve this then please let me know Thanks in advance for any help Regards Richard PS I am working on or planning to work on several websites soon so it may be useful to have sub-icons - so the list for Developer has another list for each company I work for I would like to achieve this if at all possible PPS If any of this is confusing at all then please say so and I will try to expand on it

I know that the Quick Launch toolbar is no more in Windows 7, but you can pin icons to it instead. This works for me, but I have a question on how to change some behavor of the taskbar. When you click on the icon,. it becomes a bar as the item opens. To open another instance, you have to right click on it and then open it again. How can I set it up so that it doesn't do that. I know it can be done, as from my screenshot here you can see that the red SW icon opens a bar that is seperate from the icon. I want to be able to do this with Windows Explorer, as I'm opening multiple windows all the time. Does anyone know how to do this? Do you understand what I want?

A:Icons in Taskbar

Hi -

The SW icon should not be showing up twice. Multiple instances of the same app pinned to Taskbar should all appear over the original Taskbar icon.

Here is screenshot of 4 IE screens open; 3 of which were opened via RIGHT-click on Taskbar icon -

Instead of dragging to Taskbar, try this -

RIGHT-click the SW EXE file, either in the Start Menu or in Program Files folder, select "Pin to Taskbar".

If it is the opposite that you seek (like the two SF icons), try dragging Windows Explorer icon to the Takbar.

Regards. . .

John

The only thing I can think of is this: close Internet Explorer and then right-click the one on the right and pin it to the Taskbar. Then right-click the one on the left and unpin it. The reason I'm recommending that you close it first is due to how both icons show as being open which tells me that they are in no way separate from each other. However, I feel that this is worth a shot.

Would it be okay to have all those running in the backround then if I require a word document just click on the icon in taskbar and hey presto away we go ans so on?
Hope that I have explained myself okay?
Many thanks.

presumably you mean have the programs open but minimized, that would be ok,
if you mean have them running all the time each time you start the computer until you decide you want to use them, that would make little sense.

When i finally turned it back on, it started up normally but there are no icons or no taskbar whatsoever, Nothing at all, just the background picture. I don't know how to fix it, I tried restarting in safe mode but it's still the same. some people said i should re-install the OS but i lost my product key. what can I do?

A:No icons, no taskbar

Basically what happened was (well, what it sounds like) was that you've caught a virus that (on startup) deletes/disables your explorer.exe (the file that displays right click on screen, icons, taskbar, et cetera).

I've had this problem many times, as it's very common.

Download a program called "HIJackThis". I assure you it's very easy to use and very dangerous if you do not do the right this, so I'll walk you through how to use it:

Step 1: Install the program which can be found HERE. If the link didn't work then try HERE.

Step 2: Run the program. You should see a couple of options like this:

Step 3: As the arrow indicates, click on "None of the above, just run the program".

Step 4: Now you'll see a button on your left side, bottom corner that's caption is "Scan". Click it and wait for everything to load and whatnot. Be patient as this can take up to a few hours, but if you're computer is decent and hasn't been roughed around too much then it should take a few minutes :).

hi guys,

do not know why but all of a sudden my taskbar reacts different then the months before.
Normally when I open an icon on the taskbar the icon stays the same size, only you can see it opens because color or background light changes.

Now since this morning they enlarge to about 2 inches each and I do not want this to happen.

You can see in the pic added that even if Outlook is minimized, the icon stays big. Above that the icon changes....

Also, when I open the Paint pic to check if I attached the right one, hit the back arrow on the screen I get redirected to the MS APP Foto's which I did not ask.......

On the screen on can see the notifications for Outlook as an example

Tried to change this but no luck.

Any idea is welcome.

Thanks

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

It looks like you may have set taskbar buttons to be something other than Always combine, hide labels as in OPTION ONE in the tutorial below.

Hope this helps,

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit...

Two applications pinned to the taskbar, Defraggler and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, both show the "generic" icon rather than the ones built into the .exe files. In the "Start Menu", Defraggler is shown with the generic icon, but Eusing Free is shown with it's own icon.

See the attachment below.

I had a hard drive in my pc running windows XP. One day I turned it on and saw I had no taskbar and no icons. I searched online and say this seems to be a virus problem of sorts. I could ctrl-alt-delete and run programs from there, but that was it. I have since installed a new HD and XP on it but want to clean and recover as much off the old drive, which is now in an external hd case. It quit working altogether at one point but I was able to get it readable using chkdsk. Can anyone help me check, clean, and repair the old hd which is now in an external enclosure so I can recover files from it? Thanks, Joe.

Alright, when I started up my computer, my system32 folder popped up. I didn't mind that, but I saw this program "Accessibility Wizard" and I decided to open it.

http://www.imagestation.com/mypictu...9be4.jpg.orig.jpg&caption=blind&id=4198734820

Directly after making that image (a funny one that is) the taskbar changed.

The whole thing is a lot bigger (and pixalated), there is a small line that continues below the START button, and the date has turned into "7:30 PM" and right under it, it says "Thursday".

Anyone know how to fix this?

A:TaskBar icons TOO BIG

See if the MS article about that problem with the system32 folder opening applies to you.

It would seem that something has corrupted your registry and perhaps rather than try any individual fix, such as the link I posted, you should instead try the System Restore to see if you have a date available the pre-dates your problem. Using that method might give a more complete fix since we don't know the full extent of the corruption now.

As for the Accessability Wizard issue, you may just be able to fix that in Control Panel under the Accessibility icon. It sounds like you selected something for a person with a sight problem so you should be able to reverse that easily.

Regards.

I seem to be limited to how many icons I can add to the Taskbar. Unlike XP where I had many icons in the Quick Launch bar, Win 7's Taskbar limits me to about 14 icons. If I use the right click menu and choose "Pin to Taskbar" the icon is not displayed although the right click menu now displays "Unpin from Taskbar".

Dragging short cuts to the Taskbar is refused. Yes the Taskbar is unlocked and expanding the Taskbar does not allow more icons to be displayed.

I've tried several searches but have not found a solution.

A:Icons in taskbar

Hello Julie

Here are some things to try

1. Unlock the Task Bar if it is not already unlocked. Put your cursor on the top of the task bar, it will become a double arrow. Now, carefully left click and drag the task bar down until it becomes a single line of icons.
If you drag it down too far it will disappear, so be careful. You can get it back by just reversing the drag.
When you get it where you want it, lock it again.

2. Unlock the Taskbar, disable Quick launch, then re-enable Quick Launch

3. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Display
Choose the Advanced Tab
Go to the Active Title Bar option, and ensure that the font size is no larger than 8 point (Tahoma recommended).

on the taskbar across the bottom of the screen are a series of icons spread out away from the clock. occasionally my internet connection will hang. i usually have to restart. i dont always return with a full contingent of icons, which i have learned that if i log off my network and then back on they will usually all return ... i've tried to attach a BMP of the subject area

?? is there a limit to the qty of "services"?
?? where are they listed ?
?? can i rearrange the sequence in when they load?
?? how do i remove them - a couple are left over from some previous programs ( i think )?

this is not the same icons as on the left side, by the "start" button - those are like hot buttons ( ie shortcuts ) i drag onto the taskbar

If I close one of those icons, the window goes away.

I recently installed the trial version of PowerDVD 7 (and uninstalled PowerDVD 2.55, because otherwise the installation wouldn't continue) in order to test it out. A few minutes later, I decided to reinstall version 2.55, except I didn't uninstall version 7 before-hand.

Afterwards, I restarted my computer and logged in. I found that all my icons and my taskbar had gone. Explorer.exe was running, but it didn't seem to do anything, and starting another instance didn't do anything either. I figured it had something to do with PowerDVD 7, since that was the only thing I downloaded in a long time, so I uninstalled it.

After restarting the computer again, the icons and taskbar were still gone. I found out that I could get them to reappear if I closed the only instance of Explorer, and run it again, but I don't want to do that every time. How do I return things to the way they were?

I'm re-posting my question here, I think this is the proper forum.

I'm having trouble adding icons to the task bar. I have quick launched checked. the tool bars unlocked, but the handle to expand it is all the way next to the start button, and that's the only handle showing. I can click on it, but I can't move it. I just noticed it, but the the quick launch box doesn't stay checked in the task bar and start menus, and it doesn't check when I right click in task bar > tools>quick launch. I was editing A icon earlier and removed all the icons, I thought no big deal, I'll just drag them from the desk top and put them back. Right now I'm not sure what I did. Os Vista home premium. OS: Win XP Professional

When I start up my computer, it is supposed to load 15 taskbar icons, but I usually only get 4. If I log out and log back in it will load all of them. I don't know what's going on, except that my computer might be booting up too fast to load them all (I have done tweaking, naturally ). I don't know if this would require a HijackThis post so I decided to check here first.

A:Taskbar Icons

Your tweaking isn't working to good if you got 15 programs loading at startup.
Excuse the pun, I couldn't resist..

It could be things are loading to fast, but I doubt it. I would come closer to thinking they are interrupting each other during the boot process.
I suggest stopping some of them from loading at startup and start them manually after startup.

When I put my mouse pointer over the task bar icons I get a square box with the name of what it is. I would like them to show me the picture of what the icon info is. So when I run my mouse over Excel instead of showing me just the name in a square box I would like to see the preview picture of my spreadsheet. I don't know how it got this way but I would like to know how to bring it back. I notice that the Properties "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop" is gray out so I wonder if something happened to my video card? Also my taskbar color has changed to a grayish type of color.

What mode are you running? Basic mode will only show the name. To get the Picture of the application you need to be running Aero, and have Aero Peek checked in Properties. Hope this helps.

Hi, I have a laptop running XP with SP2. Had a serious problem with viruses/malware. Loaded McAfee Virusscan onto the laptop, ran it, cleaned up all except 1 virus (sorry never wrote the name down). I was told to reboot system and McAfee would complete the clean up process. When I did the reboot, I get to my background screen, but nothing else happens. No Icons....No Windows TaskBar at the bottom of the screen. I can run programs using the CTL-ALT-DELETE Task Manager.

How do I get Windows back to normal & restore the icons?

Thanks

In the task manager, go to File>New Task(run)>type in explorer.exe, it should work since thats what the problem seems to be.

Hi! I 've got an issue with icons on the taskbar.
I like to have all my program icons on the taskbar so they are all easily accessable.
I have no issue with microsoft programs but some other programs will open up a separate icon on the taskbar even though the program is permanently pinned to the taskbar. If I click on the 'pinned' icon on the taskbar, another icon opens up at the end of the taskbar... how do I stop this from happening? Have I pinned the program to the taskbar incorrectly?
Cheers,
Kyle

Using a Dell XPS400, Windows XP home. McAfee Security Center. All was fine and I began to load apps. Somewhere along the way the taskbar icons disappeared, except for McAfee, Dell Support and Palm Hot Sync. No volume control etc. Have tried all the items in the Taskbar properties. Have tried to restore to a previous date and this works for one boot and then goes back to the same problem. Have tried Dell online suport. They sent me to a "shellfix.reg" laod. Did not work. "msconfig" is set for all icon to show but they do not.Totally frustrated. Would love some help !!!!!!

Hi

Is there a way of placing the icons the way we used to do in win xp. I mean, i used to place icons in groups in a folder so that it was much easier and faster to select them without having to go to Start>All programs.

I work as a designer, mainly 3d models and i use many softwares. Quite often i have to work with three or four and sometimes 6 softwares at the same time. This way i have to keep them at sight in order not to go crazy.

My problem is that i?ve changed my OS recently and i?ve had a hard time trying to find things out, but i wasn?t able to config the taskbar the way i want it.

Can you give me a helping hand?

Thanks

Can't you just drag and drop it into the taskbar?

Or right click it and pin to taskbar.

Edit: Just checked again. If you right click on your icon the menu will give you a selection and
one of them is pin to task bar...

I rebooted my computer yesterday and now it won?t load any desktop icons or the taskbar, all I get is the wallpaper. I am able to get to files and the internet thru the Task Manager>browse option. AVG free (ver 7.5) removed Trojan horse Sheur2.LBH which I think I unknowingly infected my computer thru a jump drive.
I?ve run a virus scan again but it says ?no threats found?
I?m the only account on the computer as an administrator with password protected; guest account is disabled.
I?ve tried safe mode and system restore with the same result?.no icons or taskbar.

The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop with Win XP Home with SP2 or 3; Windows Firewall; AVG free 7.5 (updated daily); Firefox browser

Curiously, the processes within task manger mainly show LOCAL SERVICE and SYSTEM. The only OWNER is task manager. For a total of 11 usually I?m running 21-22

Hello everyone,
I was arranging my icons on my taskbar and deleted them. I thought no big problem, I'll just drag them back from my desktop. I have the taskbar unlocked, and when I click on the handle to drag it to the right to make room for the icons it doesn't move. In the taskbar start menu, the quick launch doesn't stay checked. When I right click on the taskbar>tools> quick launch, I can't check the quick launch. I'm not having any issues. I did a system restore to no avail. That seldom works for anyone, but it seems we always do it. Obviously, I must have done something wrong, because when I deleted them, I deleted them all at once. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

to disable start up program go to start > programs > start up if you see the programs there that annoys you just delete it is just a shortcut. But if you cannot locate it there try running msconfig and go to startup tab and choose the programs and uncheck it.

and about the icons is it the quick launch, and system tray icons?

I know this is petty but its doing my head in! Before i reformatted my machine the taskbar icons were a good size when not opened and in use. Now after reformat for some reason when i open an app or anything through the taskbar the app stays larger in the taskbar and not the little icon size that it is normally (or used to be before reformat). I used to be able to open multiple windows explorer windows from literally just hitting the win explorer icon but now once something is opened it gets larger in the taskbar - similar to how when a program is open in say xp and i cant open another instance of it without opening it elsewhere or right clicking. . Cant seem for the life of me to figure this one out. Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like a driver problem. Have you looked at win update for a driver update for your grapichs card? It would be in optional updates. You might have to look at HP support site for a new win7 driver. Also you can try to right click on desktop/ view/ show desktop icons. unselect then reboot then go back and select them.

is there any way of hiding this icon in the taskbar from view. i dont mean by using the windows hide function where you click on the arrow and you can see it again but by actually removing it from the taskbar for either selected users or for all users.
If you could hel me in this i would be very happy

Gosh, this Windows 7 is annoying.

In XP if I needed to open something, say Chrome or Irfan, I could just hit the icon on the taskbar and there it opened.  If I needed another occurance, the icon was still there and I can hit it all I want for as many open occurences as I want.

In my Windows 7, if I hit a taskbar, the first occurence consumes the icon and it is gone.  As far as I know, I have to go back to the desktop or the programs list to open another Irfan.

Please tell me I'm wrong, and tell me how to make the icons be icons and the open programs be something else on the Taskbar.

Thank you kindly.

I update Windows 10 from windows 8.1 few weeks back. It was going smooth since last week when Icons started to disappear. Now I cannot see Microsoft Edge and Windows Store icon but when I click on them, the respective app opens up. When I place my mouse on it, it shows the name of that respective app. Same is with Skype icon and any of the Windows Settings icon. I have McAfee Anti virus and have scanned my PC 1/2 times plus I restarted my PC after restarting task explorer.exe but still it didn't come. If anybody can help??

A:Icons on Taskbar not appearing in Win 10

Just guessing here, Windows caches the icon graphics somewhere. Try changing the screen resolution to force Windows to update the icon graphics.

Hi All,

I've just bought Windows 7 Home Premium & Office 2010 and installed both onto my laptop but I have noticed if you click the show hidden icons and then customize there is something in there called GLBF48B.tmp (Community toolbar installation - 98%)

Does anyone now what this might be??

Other than Office i've installed Paint.net, CCleaner, Firefox 4 Beta, Avast Free & Zone Alarm Free.

Thank you in advance,
Steve

A:Hidden icons in taskbar help

Could you please be a bit clearer in what you are saying? I don't quite understand. Is what you're trying to say that you have an icon on your taskbar called GLBF48B.tmp? Why don't you try right click delete. Also could you provide a screenshot.

I have an issue with certain icons on my task bar not maximising this problem has just started and its on a brand new PC,the icons were maximising but all of a sudden my media player icon and my computer icon stopped maximising.
I have tried system restore and I have done a registry clean but to no avail.
I think its something really silly but its got me beat just now
Here is a screen shot of what happens when I right click over the problem icon.

I must add that on my screen I can not see the enlarged video shot on the right hand side of the screen capture shot that I have included

I posted this on the de-bugging forum but got no replies so I take it I should have posted on here.Ooops

Thanks for any help

A:Taskbar icons not working

If you have 2 monitors (as it looks) then it will only maximize on one monitor

Recently my taskbar seemed liked working incorrectly. I have frequently 5,6 programm automatically starting at the starup of my computer and their icons are normally placed in the taskbar, but for the moment ,after the computer starts, the taskbar shows only 1,2 icon of 'random' proramm among which I have choosed to run at startup or even nothing !That is a big difficulty for me to use my usual programm, for instance, though I know that my Yahoo Messenger is still running, I have to click on Star/All Programm/Yahoo Messenger/... in order to show the YM windows to chat with my friend (Normally I can easily do that by double click on the YM icon on the taskbar). So, anyone here can help me solve out the problem ?
Thanks in advance !

A:Taskbar Icons disappear ??

If you don't have Service Pack 1 installed, you should try it.

You could also try deleting these 2 registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify\PastIconsStream

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify\IconStreams

I think my computer was infected with all kinds of bad stuff. I finally managed to get some Virus/Spyware software loaded and I think I've removed (most of)the problems. But I have one lingering issue...after being on my computer for a little while, my desktop and taskbar disappear. I don't even have the ability to "right-click" on my wallpaper (which is still visible). BTW, I'm using XP. HELP!!!

We are having an issue with the Icons in the windows 7 taskbar disapearing when a user logs of and back on. The first time the user logs ont he taskbar is there and no problems but subsequent logins they just receive a blank taskbar and can't pin any programs to the taskbar. The only way to get it to work again is to kill explorer.exe and start a new task of it,then the icons come back. I have attached two images so that you can see what's going on. Thanks.

A:Disappearing Taskbar Icons

It may sound weird, but from what I am reading it could be related to the video driver, I would try reinstalling the latest video driver.

On my laptop, my taskbar icons, for power source, and for volume, have dissappeared.

In taskbar/properties/customize, both don't appear in the 'current items', but do appear in the past items, as a folder. They are set to always show, but appearing as a folder I think is the issue.

In each systems' properties, the 'always display icon in taskbar' is checked.

If I uncheck each, apply, OK, close, then re-open, and re-check each, apply, OK, then each re-appears.

At re-boot, they're gone.
Thanks for the connectivity help BC, JW, cwwoz...
