Q: Outlook 2010: Protect folders or email from deleting

Hi,

I am wondering if we can protect a given folder (sent, inbox,..customized folder) in outlook 2010 to avoid an accidental deleting?

I looked in the outlook settings but nothing figures in there!

And idea?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Outlook 2010: Protect folders or email from deleting

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It is hard to " accidentally " delete an e-mail. It takes at least 2 clicks to delete an e-mail.
Even then, you can still retrieve it in Deleted Items folder.
That should be more than enough to safe-guard accidental delete.

Anyway, I don't believe there is such as option that you are asking for. But then, I could be wrong.

Hi all,

I need to automatically forward an email onto another account (using a rule), however, i need this to strip out the body of the email and only leave the subject and the attachment.

Im guessing i need to do this in VBA as a script on the rule, however, Ive tried a few (basic) options but cant master anything that remotly works.

Are you able to assist?

Thanks

I have a situation where someone has 2 email addresses. One of them is now redundant and I have deleted it from the People section. However, when I am set to make a new email to that person and type the first letter of their name, in the pop up window (that you can click on) their old email address still appears.
How do I delete this from that list? Can find no way to do so.

A:Outlook Email - Deleting Wrong Email Entry when starting new email

In new email, start typing the address you want to remove. When you have enough characters for auto complete to show it (sometimes one letter is enough), use DOWN ARROW key on keyboard to select the address in question and press DEL key.

That's it.

Good morning everyone So the other day something incredibly weird had occurred I was receiving email normally on my phone came into work logged in and began working on my trouble tickets I noted that when I went back to Outlook to view an email the email in particular was gone and then all were gone My folders and emails within randomly email? 2010 / Exchange inbox 2010 deleted Outlook them still remained the same I attempted to research what on Earth happened but I haven't been able to find anything specific to my issue I'm using Outlook connected to an Exchange server for work Outlook was setup as cached exchange mode but that has since been changed The emails also disappeared from my phone's inbox too it's as if everything was deleted and Exchange figured that's what it should be and synced everything that way Deleting my OST didn't resolve or resync anything I ran the scanpst tool on the ost file which reports errors but as I read the scanpst tool can't repair an OST and thus doesn't do anything Does Outlook have some sort of log that may explain what on Earth happened I can't find any error messages or any other reasons for what may have happened My view settings weren't changed nothing has changed on my end There is no spyware malware installed on the PC Outlook 2010 / Exchange 2010 randomly deleted inbox email? as far as I can tell No real issues in the Sync issues folder other than a Forms syncing issue which seems to be related to Exchange needing a patch but can otherwise be ignored I will give you any other information I possibly can just hoping that I can figure out what happened so this can be prevented in the future The email eventually began working normally but for a brief period of time whatever was in my unread folder once they were read they disappeared like the rest of the inbox Thanks

A:Outlook 2010 / Exchange 2010 randomly deleted inbox email?

Are you the only person using that Exchange server who has this issue? Check with the IT department to see if they can recover the emails in your mailbox from the server. It's possible they recently did some maintenance on the mail server that caused this issue. That fact that both Outlook and your phone are having this issue points to this being an Exchange server problem, as Outlook uses autodiscover and MAPI while your phone uses ActiveSync to connect to the server.

Do you have access to your email using Outlook Web Access? If so, log in and see if the emails are there. If not, it's definitely a server issue.

If your mail is still on the server, one thing you could try is re-enabling the cached Exchange mode, saving the change, and then restarting Outlook. The last thing to try is to delete the email account profile and recreate it. Make sure to get the proper settings from IT if you don't already have them -- although since you are using Exchange and autodiscover, that's usually just a case of entering your username and password when you recreate it.

Hello:

My sent messages in Outlook 2010, as well as some of my inbox folders are deleting after 30 days. I cannot find the messages either.

Recently migrated my data to new computer and upgraded from Office 2007 to Office 2010 and noticed this happened on September 1st. At that time I reinstalled my .pst file thinking it was corrupt. Now, I woke up this morning and the last 30 days are gone again. I have no way to get them back at this point.

I have tried advanced search and cannot find them either. I do not know if it just deleted everything???

I am scared to death as many of these are business emails and absolutely critical.

Can I get any help?

A:Messages in Outlook 2010 Deleting After 30 Days

You could check your AutoArchive settings to make sure they aren't getting archived.
File > Options > Advanced > AutoArchive Settings

Have you logged into Webmail for your accounts to see if messages are there, and check settings there?

I've been experiencing a weird issue with Office 2010 v14.0.7173.5000 (32 bit).

Whenever I try to delete an email from my mailbox (which is stored on Exchange but cached locally to an OST file) Outlook crashes.

It generally happens on the second deletion of an email within a list - Outlook halts for a second and then crashes out, closing the application altogether.

No event logs are left by Outlook or Windows system itself.

Any help on the matter would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I have multiple accounts in outlook 2010 and recently changed them from POP to IMAP so they synch. automatically with other devices. But I can't delete the original account (the primary account). What I would like to do is delete the original POP email primary account and its data files, designate another account as the primary and re-load the old primary as a new IMAP account with a new set of data files. I have outlook 2010 and it was set up automatically via IMAP to two separate register.com accounts. These accounts also are set up to download to my iPad and iPhone. All of a sudden whenever I delete a message on the server it is deleted from outlook as well. I have lost a ton of important emails....any ideas what I can do to fix this?

in outlook 2010, i understand one can use a gmail account without actually opening up the gmail account, that is he can run the account from outlook, does that mean one can delete messages also, just like a regular account.
when i try to delete a message, it deletes it from the inbox of that gmail account in outlook 2010, but under the gmail folder it updates itself, and downloads it again, even after i delete it from the gmail folder also.

thanks.

A:deleting gmail emails from outlook 2010 folder

Hallo tapuz, you may have to sign into your gmail account and delete all your old messages.
From there select settings in the top RH corner
Then select Forwarding & pop/imap tab
In the pop download column go to option 2 and in the drop down box select delete gmails copy
Then select save changes.
This will stop gmail saving a copy once Outlook has downloaded it to your computer.
I hope this solves your problem, if not post back

Hi.

I have a user who can not delete any folders in Outlook Today mailbox. When he attempts to do so, he receives a runtime error and Outlook completely freezes up. He can delete the folder when running Outlook through Citrix, so I know it is something on the local machine. I have spent hours searching microsoft.com and the online forums, with no success. I have run Detect and Repair, reset the user's Outlook profile, all with no success.

He is running Office XP in Windows XP on a Dell Latitude D410. I appreciate any help you can give.

Open the Address Book, the Contacts folder should no longer appear.

A:Outlook 2010 Email Stuck in Outbox; Corrupt Outlook Profile

Couple steps you may apply...

1. Repair the offline file with a Microsoft utility called SCANOST.exe. I’ve seen this file reside in a number of different locations, mainly within Program Files. It might be best to search for it with Windows or Google Desktop. SCANPST.exe will also work, though you’ll have to go digging for your outlook.ost, which should be near c:\Documents and Settings\ %profile%\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ Microsoft\ Outlook\ outlook.ost. If your file is significant in size, you’ll save a lot of time with the repair operation by not creating a backup. Because if the repair finishes successfully and Outlook still bombs, you’ll need to.
2. Shutdown Outlook completely, including any runaway outlook.exe processes in the task manager. Open Mail in the Control Panel and before you delete your profile completely, write down the server settings! There’s no need to worry about backing up your mail as it’s stored on the Exchange server. (Essentially, you’re deleting that outlook.ost when you drop your mail profile.) Now, start Outlook and it will create a new profile, where you’ll configure the server with the information you wrote down previously.

I wish to tidy up organise my Outlook folders They are a legacy of past Office upgrades The following screenshots the second after a quot page down quot in the navigation pane attempt to show the status quo I contracted the Calendar and Contacts items to get the rest into two screenshots I basically only have two email accounts in Outlook My gmail and others are setup to redirect incoming mail to my main quot internode quot mail account which is IMAP I only really use gmail when away from home But it is listed in my accounts and Outlook offers me the dropdown option to send from my gmail address internode is setup as the default mail account in Accounts But when Outlook loads this folder is collapsed while the next bigpond folder is not As I recall in the previous version of Office the top folder used to be what now appears towards the bottom of the list which shows Outlook Inbox and one subfolder Genealogy These still have messages in them ranging from March to February which I think date from when Office was installed What happened after February I do not know The wbwebster internode on net Inbox folder has folders reorganisation Outlook 2010 items in it that are also in the above Outlook folder so there is some duplication The wtrmnwebster bigpond com folders are practically empty less than items But mail that comes to that address is routed to the top Outlook Data File Inbox Strangely though if I save a message with internode as the sending account it gets put in the Drafts in that top folder and not in the internode folder bigond com by the way is a POP account So basically I would Outlook 2010 folders reorganisation like to reset this so that Outlook 2010 folders reorganisation all mail comes to just one main folder at the top and this includes sent items and drafts Any required mail account folders can be ranged beneath so that I don't have to bother with them I won't go to archiving yet maybe in a follow-up I do quot keep quot a lot of mail because so much of it is received from fellow genealogy researchers all over the world and every so often I go in search of one of these messages or senders It often contains valuable research findings Bill

Recently I needed to reformat and re-install all applications.
I was unable to get Outlook 2010 to work with my ISP and so phoned their help desk who asked me to run a program so that they could control my PC so that they could check and adjust settings within Outlook (they ended up changing the connection type from POP3 to IMAP and entered port numbers etc etc).

Ever since then every time I check for mail (click on send/receive) a window opens (as it used to) showing the status of the send and receive but now it downloads email for SUBSCRIBED FOLDERS which it didn't do before).

Firstly do I need 'subscribed folders'?
Secondly how can I get rid of them?
Should I uninstall Outlook 2010 and reinstall (checking the settings firstly so that I can set it up correctly)?
Thanks

A:How to remove subscribed folders in Outlook 2010

Hi jparnold, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

The following is from Outlook 2013 on How to Remove Folders, which might help you.

Choose which IMAP account folders appear in Outlook
When using an IMAP email account, you can choose which folders appear in Microsoft Outlook 2013. Start by downloading a list of all folders, and then select the folders that you want to subscribe to or view on your computer.
1.In Mail, in the Folder Pane, right-click the top folder for your IMAP account.
2.Click IMAP Folders.
3.Click Query.
4.Click a folder, and then click Subscribe or Unsubscribe.
Note To select multiple folders, press and hold Ctrl as you click folder names.
As far as your question on "do I need subscribed folders". You will be able to see which folders you may want when you follow the above method.

I use Outlook 2003 for my email and have a 9700 Blackberry device. I noticed 2 major problems recently:

1. Every time I open Outlook I get an error message stating "Personal Folders was closed improperly and is being checked for problems" and takes a while to open up.

2. Random emails are being deleted from my inbox. The time and date of the message still shows, but the 'from' and 'subject line' and the entire body of the email message is deleted. The messages are still on my Blackberry.

Anyone have any experience with this? Should I upgrade to Outlook 2007 or 2010?

Am having some issues with Outlook 2010.

Program is locking up when first opened.

Icon on lower bar says " Outlook is syncing folders "

Sends fine, is getting stuck receiving 1 of 6 messages 7kb of 1.5 mb

Have gone into ISP mail portal & deleted all incoming mail. Looks to be trying to receive messages from couple days ago ?

I went off line & tried to delete a couple newer large ( 4-10 MB ) emails .

No luck deleting so when back online. Can still use the program somewhat.
Emails can be viewed , but not moved or deleted. Doing this will cause a premanent "processing" icon.

Still thinking those couple large files caused this & would like to find a way to delete them.

Other profiles in outlook work fine. Only the main default profile is freezing.

Thanks

Hi all,

I hope you can help me out. My Acer Aspire 5542 crashed last night and after a quick copy+paste of some files, all that remained was a hard reset.

What I am missing are my emails from Outlook (they are nowhere to be found on the server anymore, although I would swear I used IMAP). I archived them in folders. As I understand it, there should be a .pst including my e-mail somewhere - right? And if so, would anyone know where this file would be? I hope it is in one of the backups I managed to make.

Any help is helpful!

Outlook has a weird behaviour About half of my personal contacts are listed in separated folders although it should be a single quot personal quot file The indication reads quot company none quot in one in another I have no idea how to correct that so I sort on telephone-numbers But that mixes up personal en company which I prefer separated The same weird ting is about any company listed in a single phrase instead of just a list of companies There double company none 2010 contacts Outlook folders is no way to merge them in a single folder Company or Personal If you for instance type something in the company-field Outlook moves it to the company list If however you remove that company information the contact is moved to the second personal file instead of the primary original personal Outlook 2010 contacts double folders company none list So why are their two files of the same thing quot company none quot If I ad a new contact it will be added to the second list quot company none quot I've done something odd to solve it Opened up every personal contact in sequence Added a random character in the company field saved it opened again and removed that character Than saved it and it was stored in the second personal company none list So with all the others and now it is one file as it should be No more quot Company none quot double folder But still why is every company address listed as quot company item quot

Hi there.
I'm using outlook2010 on two computers. Both have the same IMAP Gmail account set up.
When I'm accessing outlook 2010 on my laptop, I receive new headers but these same headers won't show up in my desktop outlook 2010. Since the same account is set up as IMAP no both computers, shouldn't I see the same inbox?

Thanks,

Gil

A:IMAP folders doesn't sync outlook 2010

Yes, you should. I had some trouble with Outlook changing my Port numbers when I would select SSL and TLS Authentication, which is likely your issue. Be sure to check the second computers settings so they are the following:

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL:imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993 Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS:smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587 Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter [email protected]_domain.comEmail Address: your full Gmail email address ([email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter [email protected]_domain.comPassword: your Gmail password

Reference

I think MS is still working some kinks out with the IMAP intergration so if all else fails you can switch to SMTP in the interim depending on your OS.

Hi there BC forums,

Old time user, long time lurker.

Context

Currently having some issues with Outlook 2010 - I was trying to learn some keyboard shortcuts and somehow inadvertently added a whole new section to my 2 email accounts in Outlook.

Issue

There are now 2 'Public Folders' for each of my main accounts, including 'Contacts', 'Sync Issues' and 'Journals' - I don't need or particularly want them to be there, however I am having issues removing or deleting them from my view.

Question

How can I remove.hide these additional folders?

Many thanks in advance for any guidance you can give.

Kindest regards,

Hi all
While there are other methods of "Backing up " Email folders etc this method is EASY.

1) DOWNLOAD PFBACKUP.EXE from the Microsoft site Download details: Outlook 2007/2003/2002 Add-in: Personal Folders Backup

IT DOES work for outlook 2010 but you have to find it in the ADD INS on the menu - image shown.

This IMO is the EASIEST method of saving mail folders - very useful and quick when messing around with office versions on different computers too.

I'm fed up with web mail and want to move to Outlook as my only mail source. The problem is, if I use Outlook, I won't be able to get all of the emails that I've organized into folders in Yahoo mail without taking every single one out of the folders and letting it sync. Outlook is able to sync the folders just fine with "Outlook Online." Is there a way that I can make Yahoo Mail do this?

A:Import existing yahoo folders into Outlook 2010?

Actually isn't too complex but depending on the number of Webmail folders you have it may take time - but only once!

I would:
In Outlook create identical folders you have in Webmail.
Set Outlook to REMOVE FROM IMAP SERVER otherwise you must manually DELETE the emails after Download (steps 6 & 7 below).
In Webmail, make sure your Inbox is empty.
Open a Webmail folder and SELECT ALL emails in the folder.
Under Actions, select Move Inbox then click Apply - the emails move to your Inbox.
In Outlook, initiate Send/Receive.
Once received, select all and move to the desired folder.
Repeat.

GEWB

I restored a pst file due to computer melt down Anyway I use Outlook to retrieve email for about email accounts Comcast and Gmail accounts Outlook used to just deposit these email into a folder with each accounts name on it Now it is giving me the folder but not putting folders Outlook has file 2010 .pst I extra restored when anything in it Instead it puts it into the account itself There is now an account at the bottom of the left window pane that you scroll down to look at all your folders This area now has a name for each account and a little arrow next to Outlook 2010 has extra folders when I restored .pst file that name If you click on the arrow it opens up and shows inbox junk mail etc How do I get rid of that and just send all the sent mail to one sent mail folder and simply have the incoming mail sorted by rules that will send it to the folder I specify Outlook used to do this very nicely not anymore I don t use Outlook with enough expertise to know how to describe this problem better I apologize for this poorly worded question Thank you for your consideration nbsp

A customer of mine recently downloaded and installed Outlook 2010. She had been previously using Outlook Express 6. From Outlook 2010, I did an import from Outlook Express, I imported both accounts, but some of the folders are missing, and some are empty where there should be many many emails. I tried exporting from Outlook Express to Outlook 2010 as well, and still the same issue, missing emails, empty folders, etc... Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be? There are over 2 gigs of emails in her OE folder, tens of thousands of emails..

Is is possible to either delete or hide the "search folders" and "deleted iems" folders that appear in each pst file created?

We use individual pst files to file our emails per current job. But the folders above take up a lot of visual space in the toolbaro it would be preffered to hide or delete them.

We do not use either to "file" emails so the compact now option in the data file managment dialog box does not really apply since I believe this is really a benefit when the file is archived.

A:Search and Deleted Items folders in Outlook 2010 pst files

Annoyitated - Try this:

There are two "Navigation Views" which can be displayed in the OL 2010 Navigation Pane.
"Classic tree view": All open PSTs are listed in alphabetical order and, when expanded, display meaningful folders as well as the folders you want to hide but can not.
"Favorites view": The favorites view has two sections. Favorites appear in a flat tree in the top half and PSTs appear in the bottom half and behave just like the classic view.
Toggle between Navigation Views Select any Top level PST folder | View Tab | Navigation Pane (there are other techniques to toggle between layouts you can explore on your own)

Adding a Favorite: Any Folder or SubFolder, of any Type, can be added to the favorites view. NOTE: You Must be in the Favorites View to select a folder to Show in FavoritesToggle into Favorites View
Right select a folder from your various PSTs
Click "Show in Favorites"
Favorite Folder will appear at bottom of Favorites section
Drag Favorite folder into a desired ordinal position
Collapse all of the PSTs in lower half and you see a clean looking folder navigation list
Problems: I have some 40+ PSTs of which more than 20 of these are generally open. Sometimes Favorites view does not show all of my Favorites because the PSTs consume too much real estate. I haven't tried to understand why - could be memory constraints. I find if I close some PSTs and then reopen OL, they magically reappear.

Hope this helps

Until last evening things were fine but this morning I found all my received emails in a sub-folder rather then my Inbox. I have sent a test email from my Inbox and it too was received in the same sub folder. Also, archived emails in other sub folders are no longer showing. A:Cannot add new email account in Outlook 2010

Without knowing more about your mail server name and such.
Have you tried to Ping your mail server? like from the run cmd prompt ping mail.xxx.xxx
I ping mail.cpcug.org to verify that the server is on-line and responding.

You could double check all the options in outlook setup email accounts to make sure that
you have spelled everything correctly, that sometimes is the problem where mispelling will
mess you up.

also the more settings options will have to be looked at to make sure that the boxes are checked correctly.

These things can get tricky if you misspell, many mail servers want your complete email address for the logon userid..

YMMV

With previous versions of MS Outlook you could right-click on a received e-mail and select 'properties' from the drop-down. This would show the full return paths and the true address of the sender.
How would one go about getting to this information?

A:Outlook 2010 Email properties

This option has been removed from the context (right click) menu in Outlook 2010 but there are alternative ways to access the dialog still and see the Internet headers of that message.
By opening the message first

If you open the message in its own window (via a double click), then you can access the Message Options of that message via;
File-> Info-> button Properties
By leaving the message closed

If you do not want to open the message first, but want to access the Message Options dialog directly from within the main Outlook window, then you can add the Message Options command to your Quick Access Toolbar;
File-> Options
Select the Quick Access Toolbar on the left.
Set the ?Choose commands from? dropdown list to; Commands Not in the Ribbon
From the command list select; Message Options?
Press the ?Add > >? button.
Press OK.
The option is now added to the Quick Access Toolbar at the top of your Outlook window and view the Internet headers of a message without needing to open it first.

Hi All.

Our office is on Exchange server with a 1gb personal folder limitation and a 6 month Corporate purge policy.

My inbox hits the 1gb limitation after about 3-4 weeks, and my practice in the past has been to copy the emails to a local folder by the grouped received dates.

However, with Outlook 2010 I am finding the following:
1. when moving a group of approx. 854 messages, once completed, the folder the items are moved to only reflects 762 messages. I have waited, hit F5 to refresh, nothing changes.
2. when I access an individual message from the local folder, the subject line displayed does not match the actual message. I have gone back to messages copied over weeks ago (hoping it was just a lag in updating) and the subject and emails are still mismatched.

Does anyone have an idea as to what maybe causing this and if there is a way to prevent it?

Hi Guys is it possible to set up my Outlook 2010 to delete my email from the server once I have downloaded and read them ?

Many thanks

A:Delete Email from Server using Outlook 2010

Yes, you can delete email from the server using Outlook 2010.

Exactly how can depend on: What type of email account(s) you have such as IMAP, POP3, ...
Who the email provider(s) are such as Gmail, Hotmail, ...
How you want your email saved...
I'm assuming this is for Home email and you installed, configure, and control Outlook.

If this is for any Work email account(s) where Outlook is controlled by "Corp. policy / Email administrator" that can make a difference.

You should be able to do it through the system registry.

Backup your registry first, and then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office and delete it.

This will remove the hive for Office 2010.

Close regedit and restart your computer. Re-install Office 2010 and re-configure Outlook.

Under Win 7, I have Outlook 2010 installed with 3 email accounts. When I open Outlook it searches each account for new messages. I would like it to search only one of them.

Is there anyway I can do this?

Thank you.

I believe you can achieve this by using 'Send/Receive' Groups:

Hey all I just happily installed Win on my desktop and laptop Included with that is Office Beta which I want to use at least until October when the trial expires I've decided to try and give all the stock MS programs a other email 2010...switch client? Outlook to shot I've become very irked by the fact that about six different companies offering two different suites with ten different programs in each suite Outlook 2010...switch to other email client? none of which compat well together are what I get to sift through until I find my pick I've currently been running Google Chrome and using GMail Chrome is really nice once I got used to the minimal interface GMail too has long been a favorite of mine However I have Office and want to full utilize what I see as a great productivity suite especially compared to Google's online suites which seems to be still in the shaky ground of beta and new releases My issue is this I've tried importing my GMail into Outlook but there are a lot of discrepancies Filters for one don't transfer from GMail into Outlook I have like thirty messages in my inbox that should be in my school box And I think trying to sync everything up would be a pain in the ass and need constant adjustment especially since it's already been finnicky in the first day's use Is there some awesome way to get Outlook to recognize all my GMail settings Or should I switch email clients Which I'm fine to do I just got a new phone essentially a new laptop and desktop and I'm moving so why not go whole hog and change all my email stuff too I've used GMail for about two years and I'm comfortable with it--but that's not necessarily good and I could always switch back to GMail if I hate Outlook Now I know this seems almost strange switching BACK to IE and Office from Google but I'd like to try it My goal is to have a consolidated easily synchronized inclusive compatible series of programs for my daily communications Maybe in a few years I'll be using Android or something but for now I want to keep everything as in-house Microsoft as possible Is IE really that terrible If I get an email for use with Outlook what client do I use Not hotmail I won't regress that far Is there an outlook client or something Also since I have Office I'd prefer not to install redundant bloat software such as Windows Live It offers nothing I don't already have is designed as a free alternative to Office Thanks

A:Outlook 2010...switch to other email client?

The best way of synchronising gmail and outlook is by the use of IMAP rather than POP3 access.

What this does is any actions performed at one location is duplicated in the other so if you have a rule operating in gmail the result is automatically reflected in Outlook and vice versa and the folder structure is also synchronised.

I actually find that gmails support for IMAP is not the best, (using tags rather than actual folders), but it does work.

A better Service for outlook/imap use is in my opinion Free Webmail and E-Mail by GMX | Sign Up Now!, which also looks more like outlook in use. you may want to have a look at this free service and as it has a mail collector, for your existing gmail account, can ease the transition

hello,

outlook does tell you when a new email shows up in a sub folder thru somthing like this: (5) for example.

i would like to see the new email notifications also in the sub folders! if i get mail i a sub forlder nothing shows if the folders are collapsed

is there a way to do so?

A:outlook 2010 sub folder new email notification

Hey paascal,

You got to go to Rules,
Click on Manage Rules and Alerts. Select the rule you have created for which you want to have the alert and then click on change rule.

Go to Edit rule settings, It will open a new window "Rule Wizard", click on next. On the second window scroll down to bottom and check the option "display and Desktop alert". Finish the setup and you are done.

Next time you get a mail from that specific user and it goes to your sub folder, you will get a desktop alert.

You can do this for any rule you have set.

We are in the middle of moving from a local exchange server to using Microsoft hosted mail Currently both our local mail and office mail are active As an intermediary step I am attaching both accounts to our current version of outlook so that people can move mail through Outlook at their own pace So far I've set this up a dozen times with minimal issues but I have run into a strange problem One user's outlook fails repeatedly to add the account It acts like it's working fine but when outlook requests the password my user types it in and the box requesting the password pops up again If told to cancel an error pops up stating that the exchange server cannot be found and that outlook needs to be online outlook to an email 365 office 2010 Attaching I neglected to get the complete message but that is the gist The same email can be setup on a different machine and the password is correct because it was used to set up one drive on the same machine I even tried creating a new mail profile Attaching an office 365 email to outlook 2010 but it Attaching an office 365 email to outlook 2010 also had Attaching an office 365 email to outlook 2010 issues The problem has to be with that installation of outlook specifically and possibly the user profile This user has had a lot of issues with their outlook before sometimes due to data size issues too many names in the junk list just flat too much email period They currently have a lot of pst archived folders attached to outlook as a compromise to keeping the inbox small and I'm wondering if this could have any impact Has anyone heard of this problem or have any suggestions

A:Attaching an office 365 email to outlook 2010

Never mind. I kind of answered my own question after I thought about it.

FYI: Even if the main profile is under 2 GB, if all the open data files exceed a certain size (I'm not sure how much, but this was over 6 GB) it will not add a new profile. I closed the other data files and was then able to add the new email without issue. After restarting outlook, I was able to reopen the other data files, and all seems to be well now.

The 0xc0000005 error code can be caused by a number of issues. Does the error code only occur with the Outlook.exe file? The likely cause is a problem with the way the program was installed or updated. If not, it could be anything from malware, to damaged system files, to bad RAM or drivers.

Is anyone aware of an efficient way to move emails (inbox, sent, etc) from Mozilla Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 (not Express)?

Tbird2OE is amazingly slow and introduces some problems of its own.

A:Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 - email import?

What's slow about it? Thunderbird is a pretty basic, simple e-mail editor. If it opens slowly or doesn't respond, I suspect you have other problems.

Also, there's no way to natively import e-mails from Thunderbird into Outlook, so you'd have to hunt for a 3rd party tool.

There was an old thread from last year which described a problem with Outlook Contact records but which did not offer a definitive solution This is to follow up with such a solution The problem sometimes arises email address Outlook accept won't 2010 when you try to edit an existing contact record by adding a new email address When you enter the Outlook 2010 won't accept email address new email address and when you then move on to the next field the new email address sometimes disappears IOW Outlook will not allow you to add the email address This problem appears to be related to Outlook s autofill feature if you ve received an email from the contact using that new email address Outlook will autofill the Contact email field with that address But it won t accept it and it disappears as soon as you move to the next field The offered solution from last year s thread was to clear the autofill cache and to see if that would work But there was no report as to whether or not that solution worked and it s rather cumbersome to find and delete the whole cache file That thread is now closed I tried a simpler solution that did work deleting the offending email address from autofill This is easily done by starting a new email message to the contact person in question When you start to type the person s name or email address into the To line of the new message Outlook will suggest the offending email address Simply delete that autofill suggestion there s an x next to it That done you can get rid of the new email message not necessary to actually send it and then re-open the person s contact record You can now enter the address into the email field move to the next field and it should stick Save the edited contact record and you re done It s peculiar that this problem has been around so long with no clear solution offered I ve encountered it a few times and been puzzled about what to do until now Hope this helps nbsp

I purchased an online version of Outlook 2010 about 2 years ago. Whenever I initially open up Outlook it tells me that my (trial version) has expired and I need to upgrade. I enter my product key information as prompted. After my info is verified nothing happens. I attempt to generate a new email by tipping on the icon but no blank email page appears. I can recieve emails but I can't send them. I double and tripled checked all of my email account settings and everything passes the test. Oh, I also notice at the top of the page that my version is listed as being unregistered. What does that mean?

Hi

I'm using Outlook 2010. I'm typing an email address into a contact, and it lets me type it in but then when I hit tab or return the address just vanishes. It's happening with an email address that Outlook already knows, so it suggests it as I type it; it seems not to happen with an email address that Outlook doesn't already know.

Any suggestions?

My outlook is marking my email as read before i look at them.
Email sometime shows as read in the inbox the first time it apears. other times the email shows up as unread but changes to read on its own. Or a large groupe of email changes to read if I touch another email with the curser. Some email comes in unread and stays that way as long as I don't read it.

I can't find any consistancey.

I also get lots of Spam. Eventhough i have setting set high. The company even has a firewall. Most of the other folks here dont get much spam.

I tried to set up my college email (.edu) in recently installed outlook 2010. I did something about Exchange (I don't remember exactly what I did..) when outlook first popped up, and now it won't let me do anything.
When I open outlook, it comes up with the error message: "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. "
I click okay and a box comes up wanting me to enter Microsoft Exchange Server and Mailbox. I try putting my info in but I don't know exactly what to put. If I click okay, an error comes up. "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file...is not an Outlook data file (.ost)."
I click okay and it completely closes outlook.
I've tried to click file in the main window, but it either doesn't let me or says, "Not Responding."
How do I fix it? Thanks!

Greetings all I'm a real newbie to this forum so if I have posted this in the incorrect location addresses choose to Outlook from?? 2010 email just let me know Thanks - When I create a new email and begin to type in a name for example J a window drop-down appears and shows Outlook 2010 email addresses to choose from?? me names that begin with the letter quot J quot and the next name shown begins with the letter quot L quot Since I actually have names that begin with quot J quot why can't I scroll down the list and pick the one I want If I double click on the quot To quot it will bring up my address book and then I can type quot J quot and it will show me all the quot J quot s that I can choose from However that is obviously another step to go through that wastes time Is there an option I need to check to allow the first window drop down to show me more options or another solution Thanks in advance for any information you can provide to solve this problem for me Ron

A:Outlook 2010 email addresses to choose from??

Hi Ron, maybe I'm missing something, but the more letters you type, the narrower the field becomes.

So for example, if I start off with "L" all the names with L will pop-up, as I type the second letter, LI, all the names with LI will stay and everything else drops off and so on. That's the way the "auto" feature is designed to work.

The other way you could do it is just type the entire name in the To box and hit Check Names and the box that opens will have a list of all the people with that name, then you just choose the one you want.

Hope this helps.

if the item is stuck in your outbox, you may not be able to delete it until you set Outlook to work Offline (Send / Receive then Work Offline from the Ribbon). Note: This may not be instantaneous - you may need to let it sit in Offline for a while before you can go to your Outbox and delete the stuck mail.

Hi All,

I have just upgraded to Win 8 and installed office 2010. I've got outlook up and running but most of the previous emails were in folders. On the new system I don't have these emails or folders.

Any ideas how I would port them over? The old outlook is still intact on another hardrive.

Any help would be great

A:Outlook how to port over folders of email?

If you have the location of the old files, just choose File > Open > Outlook Data File and select it. Optionally, you can copy it or move it to the same location as the new one (May need to be renamed). < If the other hard drive is in the same system. > You can Map a network Drive and Move or Copy the file from it if on another.

OK...wow...can someone share their insight on this one.

Just installed MS Outlook 2010. I set up my 3 email accounts. Now I have a separate Inbox for each of my 3 accounts....AND one for an account called Outlook.

Why does MS have to make this sooooo complicated. On my older verson of Outlook, all my email came into the same Inbox.

I don't mind if there is a separate Inbox, Sent, etc, for each account...but what the heck is the other "Outlook" account for.

Go to accounts (file->Account Settings) and look at your list of accounts. The 'Outlook' account may just be one you inadvertently added as the default account name. Check the settings of that account and see if you need it. Delete it if you don't.

Also, if you haven't already noticed, the email account you send from depends on what inbox is highlighted. I had to break old habits with 2010 to keep from sending mail out through the wrong account.

Hi there I've got a GMAIL account which I access via OUTLOOK IMAP I've googled for this but the solution doesn't work --there's there's no TRASH folder under GMAIL How though do you delete PERMANENTLY Email -- If you delete it from the BIN folder it goes to Deleted folder -- if you empty this folder and then click on the gmail all mail 2010 outlook delete email with Permanently from gmail folder it all re-appears again I've got something like mails now that I can't seem to get rid of -- if I have to do this via gmail itself then it rather makes the whole point of using OUTLOOK pointless in the first place The only reason I opened a GMAIL account Permanently delete email from gmail with outlook 2010 was because of its integration with OUTLOOK Deleting emails goes to the delete folder - now if I empty that the mail is seen again in the ALL mail folder - deleting that goes to the BIn folder and deleting that goes back again to the delete folder -- endless roundabout Cheers jimbo

How to Delete Emails from Gmail IMAP Access Mail Client ? My Digital Life

Quote:
In Outlook 2010 and some email, you can set Outlook to automatically move the deleted items to [Gmail]/Trash folder on the server. To do so, go to the ?Account Settings? of the Gmail account, and change its account settings. At ?More Settings?, go to ?Deleted Items? tab, and select ?Move deleted items to the following server on the server?, and select the ?[Gmail]/Trash? folder in the tree list.

An email message in Outlook can appear in many folders (applied with many labels). Typically, once you delete the email and move it to Trash, the email should be removed from other folders by Gmail too. Perform a sync or Send/Receive All Folders (for Outlook) so that mail client can synchronize the change that takes place on Gmail cloud after deletion. If for some reason Gmail and mail client does not automatically remove to Trash a delete email from all folders (labels), and the supposedly deleted emails on folders other than Trash folder, then manual deletion from each and every folders is requires. This including from [Gmail]/All Mail folder which archived all mails.
Once the e-mails are moved to Trash folder, it will be automatically purged by Google server process after 30 days. You can also configure your mail client to process purge permanently items mark as trashed or deleted in the original folder automatically from the server. Note that also if you delete any email message from [Gmail]/Spam or [Gmail]/Trash, it will be deleted permanently, locally and on Gmail server.

I have a specific email contact who can be reached directly through my Gmail on Google but every time I send directly from Outlook 2010 the email dies as "Invalid Recipient". This applies even if I am replying to a received email from that person so it is not a typo or similar personal error and it is the only contact which behaves like this.

Anyone out there with any ideas?

A:Outlook 2010 won't accept a specific email address

Do they have special non-alphanumeric characters in their username?

That's the only thing that I can think of.

A:Urgent!!!Outlook 2010 email account problem

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

During the Office 2010 installation you have the option to choose whether to have everything installed to your computer, whether to install just some of the options, whether to install on first use or not install a particular option such as Outlook.

Can you remember which options you chose?

You can always reinsert your Office DVD and choose the repair option or uninstall it, and then re-install choosing all the options.

My hard drive recently crashed and I installed a new one. Fortunately, I had backed up my data so did not lose anything. However, I am having trouble importing my email files into the new Outlook. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and Outlook 2010 on both the old and new hard drives.

I imported several archive folders with no problem. However, the main account folder will not import. When I try, I get an error message ?The Outlook data file (.pst) is already in use in the current profile.? I have dozens of critical work emails in folders that I can?t access. How do I import all the folders into Outlook on my new hard drive?
