Strange occurence in properties window

Q: Strange occurence in properties window

Hello. I have noticed a strange fact regarding my windows 7 32 bit operating system. When I delete some files in a folder, then go to properties, when i look at "Contains", it still shows the number of files i had before deletion, not the current number of files in that folder. Is there a way to repair this? Thanks in advance! (rebooted my pc, but with no success, if it is to mention)

Preferred Solution: Strange occurence in properties window

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Strange occurence in properties window

Did you empty the Recycle Bin?

I don't see a "Contains" choice in any folder property menu. Can you tell me how you get to it, as following the directions you gave does not show it for me.

Maybe post a screen shot of it? Make sure the window you want to capture has the focus.
Press Alt+Print Screen. That will capture the active window.
Print Screen will capture the entire screen, including properties dialogs.
Start MSPaint - Start then Run, type mspaint and press Enter.
Press Ctrl+v to paste the picture in to MS Paint.
Click File then Save as and save it to your Desktop.

Start a new reply.
Click on the Browse button below the message input area.
Navigate to where you saved the picture, select it and click on Open.
Click on Attach This File.
Once uploaded, click on Add To Post to the far right of the uploaded file.
Scroll down and click Preview Post to verify the image shows.

I just got a new laptop a week or so ago, and I had installed Google Chrome because that is what I usually use. I was filling out job applications, but I needed to use Internet Explorer because the site wouldn't format correctly on Google Chrome. As I went to fill out an application, it had already autofilled my answers. It even used my home address, which I rarely use (I usually put my mailing address on job applications). This was the first time I had ever used Internet Explorer on this laptop, except to download Google Chrome. Is it possible for IE to automatically autofill applications with information only used on another browser? II find it really strange that i it even used my home address, because I don't recall ever using it before that time, and that is the only job application that has ever autofilled for me. What could have caused it to do that?

Well the easy thing to do is see if you can download Microsoft Security Essentials from the MS website
The second thing to do is make a backup of your HD with Macrium Reflect and you will be all set.
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp

YOu can also try to quickly fix the problem.Run a SFC scan.
and
Go to event viewer and look for errors that may have caused the problem
Then because of the nature I would make an antivirus scan first thing.
You can use the online free scan of house call
I would, also try and see if a system restore from before the problem does any good.

Did you try LKGC (Last Know Good Configuration)?

Are you able to boot from Safe mode? If yes, uninstall Winamp and check. Also, try system restore tool and let us know.

I have a user that sent this to me in an e-mail last night. I read it and don't have a clue so I thought I'd pick your brain and see if you have any thoughts on this. We use Windows XP sp2, Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003. Everything is on the latest service packs.

"For about the last two weeks or so, when I open my computer in the morning upon arrival (it is always on, so I just turn on the display), I find a blank e-mail in my Inbox, as if it were a draft. The heading above the address section says "This message has not been sent." Yet it is in my Inbox. It is always time stamped between 9:04 and 9:08 pm. There is no content, and I have simply been deleting it everyday."

Im having the strangest problem with connecting to the internet on dial-up and it kind of started months ago but got extremely worse ever since I got an XP computer days ago For OCCURENCE error not with responding computer remote STRANGE #678 most of the day my computer cannot connect to the internet no matter how often i try and an error message appears stating the remote computer did not respond Now the strange thing is im only able to connect on line after pm or early morning before am or so maby after or or more attempts compared to or more during the day time with no results I tested my XP computer at the store where i bought it and at my parents house and it has no problem at all connecting to my internet provider at those locations My internet provider is blaming my phone line or some other kind of interference although Bell Canada has tested my complete line and reported that it is fully functional with no problems So my question is why is this happening

A:STRANGE OCCURENCE with error #678 remote computer not responding

Hi, welcome to TSF

What sort of dial up - as in 56k modem?

Are there other people in the house you live who will be using the phone line, i.e. other access points in the house with phones plugged into?

Do you have any sort of additional services set up on the line, i.e. caller waiting, some sort of answering service (these can interfere).

Check the state of the access point boxes - are they damaged?

Check the above things - then I would be going back to Bell Canada to be honest and insisting there is a problem and you want them to visit you to troubleshoot further.

When I go to Properties on my Diesel USB stick, I end up here: Control Panel\System and Security\System

I don't have the faintest idea why that one stick behaves like that. All my other sticks show real properties. Any ideas??

Hi Wolfgang -

Are you attempting this from the Start menu? Do you have Computer display as a Menu instead of Link?

It could really only be that rightclicking on the drive is actually rightclicking Computer, in which case Properties would show the System page.

Right click the white area in the directory, click view, click details.

Re-post a screenshot of what it lists.

If still nothing at all, go to Start and type cmd.

It should default to that directory, so type "dir" and hit enter.

It will list all of the files and folders in that directory. Post a screenshot of that also please.

Hello.

I am using a Dell laptop with Windows 8 Home. The file Properties show strange symbol-type characters where there should be numbers etc. See Screenshot...

It's been like this for a while and I have probably installed half a dozen programs etc. so I don't know what did it. I don't want to upgrade to v.8.1 as it took me ages to get a 3rd party Start button set up and 8.1 over-writes it I rolled back to a previous image of v.8.0 (True Image not System Restore).

Can somebody please enlighten? Many thanks.

A:Strange characters in file Properties instead of numbers

Did you make any changes already that did not work? Reset default system fonts? Restore Point? It saves time if the guessing game can be avoided.

It does seem strange that only the time portion of the time/date stamp is weird though.

When I insert a CD in either of my two drives the window that jumps up giving me the options of what program to use (CD Properties ) is maximized and takes up the whole screen. A:Keep Getting Ise32 Properties Window On Startup

It's not unusual to receive such an error after using tools to remove malware infection.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.IMPORTANT NOTE: ise32.exe is related to the family of worms and IRC backdoor Trojans. Backdoor Trojans, IRCBots and Infostealers are very dangerous because they provide a means of accessing a computer system that bypasses security mechanisms and steal sensitive information like passwords, personal and financial data which they send back to the hacker. Remote attackers use backdoor Trojans as part of an exploit to gain unauthorized access to a computer and take control of it without your knowledge. Read Danger: Remote Access Trojans. If your computer was used for online banking, has credit card information or other sensitive data on it, all passwords should be changed immediately to include those used for banking, email, eBay, paypal and online forums. You should consider them to be compromised. They should be changed by using a different computer and not the infected one. If not, an attacker may get the new passwords and transaction information. Banking and credit card institutions should be notified of the possible security breach. Because your computer was compromised please read How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? Although the backdoor Trojan was identified and removed, your PC has likely been compromised and there is no way to be sure the computer can ever be trusted again. It is dangerous and incorrect to assume that because the backdoor Trojan has been removed the computer is now secure. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of malware, the best course of action is to wipe the drive clean, reformat and reinstall the OS. Please read "When should I re-format? How should I reinstall?" and "Help: I Got Hacked. Now What Do I Do?".

Since I am new to the forum I'm not sure where my problem should be posted I am also not sure if it is a hardware or software related problem but here it is Suddenly when I try to appear window properties does Print dialog not print the print properties dialog window does not appear when i click on the Print properties dialog window does not appear properties button Print properties dialog window does not appear It tries to activate but immediately reverts back to the print window This occurs in both OpenOffice and LibreOffice both of which have previously worked fine for months I often print to both sides of the page echo print but can only print on one side default since I cannot change the properties The only thing I can recall that might have any bearing on the problem is that I had previously printed to a file - something I rarely do I checked the settings and quot print to file quot is not selected I am printing to a HP LaserJet Pro M MFP series PCL printer and am using Windows operating system I have tried reinstalling both word processing programs and have reset the printer to default settings and updated If anyone can help with this problem I would greatly appreciate your help

A:Print properties dialog window does not appear

Printers can be very frustrating to say the least. When I've had printer problems in the past, this is what has worked for me:

1. Unplug the power to the printer
2. Wait about 30 seconds or so
3. Plug it in and let it go through it's initialization
4. Then try it again

If that doesn't work, try reloading the printer driver from the HP site. If it still doesn't work, try a system restore back to the last time the printer was working successfully. That's about all the tricks I know for printers. Hope it helps ...

I am running WinXP, SP2. I have a Fellows Internet Touchpad installed. When I go to the Control Panel and select the Mouse, the standard Microsoft Mouse window opens instead of the Cirque Touchpad window. The mouse is identified correctly as a Cirque Ps2 Touchpad and the driver is correctly specified. The special functions of the touchpad are all working ok, however without being able to open up the correct properties window, I cannot make any changes. It used to work properly. I have tried uninstalling the touchpad driver and reinstalling the touchpad driver. That does not fix it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

I got some great help from this someone on this site with a nasty problem a short while ago and now I ve returned with some questions about up Left Brings Strange and Properties Other Phenomena Clicking another issue I ve tried to research this myself but can t seem to find any answers This problem has occured before and usually self corrects after a short time but when it occured last night it remained until a few minutes ago First of all I m using Windows XP Service Pack My computer is a Sony Vaio Desktop with Pentium Dual Core Processor Last night when trying to bring up Mozilla Firefox by left clicking on the desk top short cut Left Clicking Brings up Properties and Other Strange Phenomena the properties menu came up instead of the program I tried to left click other icons on the desktop and they all did the same thing Furthermore I could not use the start menu because clicking on it would just toggle the menu on and off rapidly At first I could right click the icons on the desk top but then right clicking would just bring the same toggle effect as clicking on the start menu I tried rebooting in safe mode but it made Left Clicking Brings up Properties and Other Strange Phenomena no difference It gets even stranger After a time the start menu stabilized and I could left click on items from the start menu and the program would come up as normal but left clicking anything on the desktop would still bring up properties Left Clicking Brings up Properties and Other Strange Phenomena Eventually the desktop icons stopped toggling on and off and I could also right click on them and choose open and then the programs would open But I still couldn t left click on them But that s not all Once I was able to bring up Internet explorer all the links worked as normal I could left click on favorites or a link on a page and they would open But left clicking on anything in firefox-faves links etc would bring up the quot Save quot window I could only open anything in Firefox by right clicking and selecting quot open in new window quot or quot open new tab quot Lastly my keyboard didn t work I couldn t type anything at all Therefore the only way I could open a webpage was if it was already in my favorites I did realize that copying and pasting worked if I highlighted something and right clicked quot copy quot or quot paste quot I thought maybe I could copy letters from the Character map and paste them into my browser in order to find URLs that weren t in my favorites Right after I did that EVERYTHING started working again I could type left click on my desktop icons etc Like I said I ve had the problem before but everything usually started working after a few minutes and a few reboots This time it took many hours to start working normally again Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone have any idea what causes this

Hello please run 2 tools here. I don'treally think it's a malware problem but lets check first. Do you still have MBAM installed then do this.RERUN MBAMOpen MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when doneclick Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan. After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot.Run Part 1 SmitfraudFix:Please download SmitfraudFixDouble-click SmitfraudFix.exeSelect option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. A:very strange drive properties display have me concerned about malware

Sorry if this is a little late, and not very specific, but the display you're seeing is malware related. About 3 weeks ago, I had a customer's pen drive which had been provided to me to restore some backup files to a new hard drive. When I tried to stop the drive before removing it,my Windows 7 system notification area displayed the drive with a rainbow icon and a string of Chinese characters very similar to what your system properties picture shows.

I did full scans with an updated Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and NOD32, which detected and removed 1 infection. The bug detected by NOD32, was one of those generic identifications that wasn't very helpful.

So, here I am, confident you have malware on the drive, but unable to identify it or the risks it poses.

This morning I attempted to view the properties of one of my drive in Windows explorer. Properties is a selection on the context menu, but clicking it does absolutely nothing. I have 3 drive in my system and the same behavior is true for all of them.

To add to the mystery, properties works fine for files, directories and Computer. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1 fully patched.

Anyone have a clue on this one?

I've been fighting properties window since I installed window 10...
I use this function a lot. The problem is the properties window opens in the background.
So I have to minimize all the windows I have open to see the properties window.
The weird thing is the properties window is the only one that does that, When I open a new
window of anything it opens in the forground.
Is there a way to force the properties window open in the forground...Thanks...

Quite a bizarre one - every time I try to view the properties of any file or folder, I'm met with:

"Explorer.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x02e1415b" referenced at "0x000000000". The momory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program"

Has anyone even encountered this before? Searching the forums produced nothing.

Thank you very much for your time and effort - it's well appreciated.

I have a large number of files which I am changing the naming convention for in the Title detail and am getting frustrated having to right click for properties and anvigate tabs ebfore being able to change each one. I can see the Title of the files in the Details view of the folder they are in, but there cannot find a way to edit them in that view other than the manner previosuly stated.

That being said, does anyone know of a workaround that would allow me to change each title without aving to jump through hoops to edit them?

Thanks in advance.

A:Wish to edit detail properties of files in window

Welcome to the Forums Clockwork,

So if I get it correctly you want to rename multiple files at once?
If so, go to the folder they are located in, click anywhere in the folder, hit crtl and a at the same time to select all the files and then hit F2

After that you'll see that the name banner of the first file in the folder turned empty. You can now type the name you want it to have in, and hit enter. It will change all the files to that name, followed up by a number.
Hope that that helps!

I turned on sharing for the C drive and added an Everyone group in Security to allow access to my other computer on my network. When I go to close the Properties window I a message that says "You are about to change the permissions settings on the root directory of the startup disk which can result in unexpected access problems and reduce security. Do you want to continue?".

I answered yes and it went through all the folders and gave an access denied message on system folders. After if was done I got the same message mentioned when I tried to exit the Properties window. So I removed sharing and the Everyone group. But I'm still in the same situation. I keep going through the same loop and can not exit the Properties window.

A:Window Sys32 Properties Appears On Opening

The System32 folder opens at startup because of a corrupt system registry value. The value could have been corrupted for a number of reasons to include malware or installing/uninstalling a program from the Internet which did not install/uninstall itself properly.Click on the link below:http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htmScroll down to #260 and click "System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot" in the right column. You will be prompted to download xp_systems32opens.vbs. Save the file to your desktop and double-click on it to run the script. Since the script modifies certain registry settings you may receive an alert from your anti-virus or any script blocking program. Ignore the warning and allow it to continue. The problem could also be caused by empty run entries in your startup shortcuts which will open the system32 folder. Check the startup run registry entries and remove those entries. See System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows. These steps involves making changes in the registry. Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own. Improper changes to the registry could adversely affect your computer and render it inoperable. ERUNT is an excellent FREE tool that allows you to to take a snapshot (backup) of your registry before making changes and restore it when needed.

Hello I have two questions that are not critical to the operation of my system but has been driving me crazy in an effort to research them to no avail The only thing that I am pretty sure of is that properties window Folder dialog Extra Tabs on the it Extra Tabs on the Folder properties dialog window is a problem with the registry When I right click on a folder and then click properties the dialog window comes up with extra tabs This happens for every folder on my computer The extra tabs are the same tabs as the My Documents folder shortcut Target General and Sharing and the target window is C Documents and Settings Owner My Documents This results in Extra Tabs on the Folder properties dialog window every folder having an extra General and Sharing tab and a Target tab with the My Documents target in it Interestingly enough the virtual folder that is listed in explorer for My Documents has only tabs but the My Documents folder inside Documents and Settings Owner the actual folder itself has the extra tabs just like every other folder A possibly connected problem is that the Add Remove section of the Control Panel no longer has the install dates or useage level for most programs The dates are in the HKLM uninstall registry keys but they are not being read for some reason I have been installing and uninstalling a lot of programs mostly antivirus antispyware firewall and utility programs in an effort to clean up and speed up my computer and test a lot of different applications This effort has been dramatically successful however I am left with these two minor but annoying issues I did have an issue a couple of weeks ago with being unable to install microsoft updates which cost me many hours of research and effort with the help of Microsoft Support but I managed to fix it partly with their help but mostly with web research Ended up re-installing Office I think this is when the issue of the missing install dates started as the installed programs since this time are showing the install date Any ideas especially about the extra tabs Screenshot is attached Thank you Sybrandus

Hi everyone!

I tried to ignore this problem, but it has become increasingly frustrating when I have to work with files in Windows Explorer.

The problem is, when I right-click on a file and choose Properties, it takes 5-8 seconds to open the File Properties Window. Strangely, when I do the same with folders (Folder Properties) the window opens almost instantaneously as it should. I have tried to fiddle around with ShellExView but to no avail - after all, I assume that program is just for controlling context menu entries. I searched and googled but I couldn't find any similar problems, the closest I got was that software.

Do you know what's the problem? Thanks in advance!

A:Windows Explorer takes 5-8 seconds to open a File Properties window!

You can keep disabling more non-microsoft extensions in shellexview and see if any of them are causing it (do a system backup first)

In many cases it is the result of the way the web page has been coded (not a problem of yours), but why not simply uncheck the box to stop it displaying again?

My resolution is already fixed at 1280 x 1030. I see no way of acting on 1 or 2
I see no way of taking action on 1 and 2. I couldn't capture the window but have made it up exactly as it is.

After having setup successfully Win 7 Pro some years ago printing worked fine for several pdf printers
and connected USB laser printers.

Then, recently, I must have changed something accidentially in System.

When I now want to print (e.g. a Word doc or web page from Firefox) it doesn't work anymore.

EVERY printer does not work!

Further investigations revealed that the printer ports are vanished in printer Proprties dialogs.
Its completely empty!

Have a look at the attached snapshot.

I don't know which event or action caused the printer port deletion.
Maybe a new Win Patch or an uninstallation of driver or a registry key adding.

However re-installation of printer drivers does not help since the required underlying ports are gone.

How can I re-install them again?

Is there a manual Registry add script?

Well, this only started recently. Apparently, I somehow messed up my computer and now I am loaded with annoying pop-ups. However, that is not what I am posting about. Lately, I have been getting this window saying:

Buffer overrun detected!

Program D:/WINDOWS/explorer.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.

This is the first time I have seen such a window in my life, and I don't really know what to do about it. Also, after I click "ok," explorer just restarts. Thanks in advance.

A:Strange window appears.

That problem might very well be related to your popup problem, so first thing is to get rid of that malware.

Follow the HJT - 5 steps against malware link in my sig, go through the whole 5 steps, then if you're still having problems, post your HJT log in the HijackThis section of the forum and not here. Security techs will look it over.

Hello everyone. I've been having this strange problem for the past couple of months now. A strange program appears on my taskbar. It comes at seemingly random times and only stays for about a second. It looks like this:http://www.boomspeed.com/kpax00/help.JPG

It minimizes any fullscreen program I am running. It is just on the taskbar, there is no popup or any sort. I've run any adware/Anitvirus programs but they found nothing. I've also checked my task manage but found nothing suspicious. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

A:Help! Strange window in taskbar

Do you have norton internet security or norton antivirus? This looks like the window which pops up when liveupdate finds and recieves an update with automatic updates activated.
Pretty sure that if it is not that it is something similar.
It is normally not supposed to show like that; but something on your system is making the invisible visible.

A:Strange window around my icons

Hi Icarus and welcome to the forum.

Are you referring to the "shortcut arrows" on the icons? If so, they're there because those icons are shortcuts to the files/programs, not the files/programs themselves. The icons that don't have the shortcut arrows (like your Recycle Bin icon, or the Erik folder) are links to those folders/apps themselves.

Or, if you're referring to the gray/white box outlines around the icons --- I think you may be seeing them because the background of your actual icon boxes may be showing up slightly against the background color of your screen. You might try experimenting with your theme or screen colors to see if you can hide that.

Here's something strange to figure out...

I watch TV using a Cable Card receiver through Windows Media Center. While watching TV, I need to view MS Outlook, Chrome Browser and other things that I have pinned to my Windows 7 taskbar. While Windows Media Center window is active, I click on say Outlook on the taskbar and when I move my mouse into the outlook window which is smaller than the Media Center window, the Outlook window goes away from view. Its almost like the Windows Media Center window is set to always be on-top which I think is not the case. I am not sure how to check that. In order to do anything, I have to minimize my TV watching window.

Any ideas?

A:Strange window behavior...

I assume you only have one monitor, so while watching TV open the other program that you want, which will take over the screen, move the mouse pointer to the task bar & right click & this will show some options such as cascade windows or show windows side by side. If you select side by side then you should be able to continue watching TV & view the other window at the same time.
Hope this is what you are after.

A:My HJT this log and an odd occurence

Just another thing I should add I am worried that someone has already obtained access to my PC and just dropped that virus. Because I don't understand how it just popped up when I had nothing running, I checked my processes and everything was fine it just popped up out of nowhere. It really worries me that someone might have access to my PC. I've checked my active connections and everything related to that under the CMD prompt but it seems their isn't anything suspicous. I'm up-to-date with all my virus protection and have never been infected with a virus and have had a computer for the last 4 years.

Windows updated W Home Premium on my Samsung Netbook last week Immediately following that Opera began to misbehave Specifically it comes up in a sort of full-screen mode not the normal full-screen using F and ESC but literally full-screen Opera still window 12 Strange Opera Solved: shows tabs and buttons but it has no title-bar it hides the Windows taskbar has no exit button and no menus so even though it works normally including F there is no way Solved: Strange Opera 12 window to shut it down other than to use the quot Windows quot key to force the Solved: Strange Opera 12 window taskbar to be visible then right-click on the Opera tab and close it manually Downloading and installing a fresh copy of Opera did not fix this Cleaning the operaprefs ini file out of the system and then re-installing Opera fixed it for about an hour then the quot Opera Standard quot window disappeared again along with the menus and the W task bar I have been using Opera since it was first introduced I run it on my desktop PC also using W without any of these problems But on the netbook it s driving me crazy - all my controls are hidden and disabled Anyone have any ideas Has anyone else even seen this It s probably not Kiosk mode because I still have the address bar visible and working Opera Help says quot Click on the big red O in the upper corner quot for system menus but this oddball version does not have that symbol either nbsp

A:Solved: Strange Opera 12 window

Update: I suspected that the problem was in the operaprefs.ini file. I also knew that would be regenerated if it was deleted, so I moved it to the desktop, then restarted Opera. Lo and behold, here are all my menus, taskbar and normal windows title-bar back!

A comparison of the old and new ini files found the following things in the old one but not in the new one:
----------------------------------
[User Prefs]
Accept Cookies Session Only=1
Enable Cookies=3
Hotlist Alignment=1
Special effects=0
Show Hidden Toolbars While Customizing=0

[Windows]
Bookmarks Panel Window=0,0,940,467,2
Speed Dial Configuration Dialog=0,0,564,478,0
New Preferences Dialog=189,24,645,521,0
Content Block Dialog=251,63,522,422,0
Cookie Manager Dialog=239,57,545,455,0
Addressbar Overlay Dialog=128,24,309,196,0
Rich Menu Window=814,463,170,131,0
Close All Confirm Dialog=322,206,380,142,0
Customize Toolbar Dialog=159,55,634,515,0
Treeview Window=319,298,386,41,0
Go To Page Dialog=303,211,418,155,0

[Colors]
Skin=#f0f0f0

[HotListWindow]
ActiveTab=Windows
-----------------------------
Of these, only the Skin=#f0f0f0 entry in the colors section looks suspicious. The color value is ordinary enough, but the skin keyword is odd. Opera doesn't really use "skins" (they call them "Themes") and I certainly did not load one, at least not intentionally. So where did this come from? I also don't actually know what the Hotlist Window entry does. Maybe that was the problem...

Anyhow, the good news is that if you have this annoying problem, just delete operaprefs.ini and it will go away. That is usually stored in C:\Users\<your user name>l\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera. Note though, that is a 'hidden system' directory. You may have to make it visible in file preferences.

A:Strange window while starting windows

Hello nicka444, and welcome.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes. Please do these steps in order and do not skip any.

HijackThis Is In Temp Folder
You are running HijackThis from a temporary directory. It needs to be in a permanent folder. Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C: then click on File > New > Folder and call it HJT, or another name of your choice. Extract HijackThis from the archive and move it to this folder. The program creates backup files that we may need to use later. If the program is in a Temporary folder, files may be deleted by you or automatically if your system is set to empty temp files.

Re-enable MSConfig
To ensure we are not prevented from seeing everything on your system, please go to Start>Run, type msconfig, and press OK. Enable all startups by selecting Normal Startup - Load all Device Drivers and Services, then click Apply.

Unhide Files
Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders". Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click OK.

Download CleanUp!
Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

WARNING: CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any temporary folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

WARNING: Do not run cleanup under Windows XP x64 Edition. If you're not sure if you have the 64-bit version of Windows then you probably do not; however, you can check by using IE to download the whichcpu tool and then running it.

Download Ewido
Please download, install, and update Ewido Anti-Spyware.Load Ewido and then click the Shield tab at the topClick on the word active to change it to inactive.

Click the Update tab at the top:Under Manual update, click Start update. After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful". If you are having trouble updating, you can also download and run the manual updater.
Under Automatic update, change the Update interval to something more reasonable like 12 or 24 hours.

Click the Scanner tab at the top and then the Settings sub-tab:Under How to act?, click Recommended actions and select Quarantine.
Under Reports, select Automatically generate report after every scan

Close Ewido. Do not run a scan with it yet.

Disable SpySweeper
Please disable Webroot SpySweeper, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean. To disable SpySweeper:Go to the Options>Program Options.
Uncheck Load at Windows Startup.
Click Shields and uncheck all items there.
Uncheck Home page shield.

Reboot
Reboot your system to Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears and choosing Safe Mode from the list. On some systems, this may be the F5 key so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on with your usual account. Make sure to close any open windows.

HijackThis Fixes
Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they still exist (make sure you do not miss any):R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winbev32 - winbev32.dll (file missing)Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked. Close HijackThis.

Deletions
Delete the following file indicated in RED if it still exists:winbev32.dll ? find via Start>Search
Run CleanUp!
Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the i... Read more

Hello I am old time dormant member returning So I will apologize in advance if I missed this covered somewhere else in the forum or if links purely to demonstrate the issue are not allowed Honestly not sure what to search for on this issue and I am pretty adept with computers Issue Ok so at random times during desktop navigation and browsing I will get stuck application window shadow effects that remain persistently after the window has been closed or even re-sized They will be seen always on top of any application and the desktop until I reboot shadows? Strange remaining window my computer Once rebooted everything returns to normal These anomalies have been a long time experience through using Windows for a few years now I have always used AMD ATI cards throughout my progression of hardware However I am Strange remaining window shadows? unsure if Strange remaining window shadows? that's a defining factor to this issue Here is an example you can see the small grey lines from where my skype window was previously open on the bottom left of the screen That's stuck on the screen at this moment http oi tinypic com mcbsir jpg This seems to happen at random intervals Strange remaining window shadows? It stays the same and is quot always on top quot of everything making it a nuisance You can always solve it with a reboot though -have seen this occur on multiple of my system builds -windows x always used -multiple cpus gpus amd ati upgrades -always start with a fresh format of the o s with latest drivers and updates -it happens with pretty much any desktop application and can also occur with the shadow visuals associated to mouse-over information popups -does not show in fullscreen games which suggests O S Maybe the consistent trend is AMD I'm leaning towards something O S related as there's too many variables But it's been a steady issue for a long time across multiple hardware configurations Current specs I'm not sure this is a factor any more Mobo Asus Crossfire V Formula-Z Happened with my last IV series too cpu AMD FX- overclock or not happened on my t too Ram gb mhz Kingston happened on my last gb mhz kit HDD SSD Happened on my mechanical hard drive and my Samsung pro Video AMD Happened on my last AMD cards too At this stage I'm more just curious as to whether anyone else notices this or has seen this before It happens rarely but when it does it's always a show stopper requiring a reboot

A:Strange remaining window shadows?

Just stab in the dark, on your screenshot I noticed you have changed your Start Orb, has the problem been around before you changed the Orb?

Some of the software that allows you to edit the Start Orb, change files in Windows Explorer, this might be causing your issue.

I have a problem with the appearance of the glass effect of the taskbar and windows title.

They both look like aero peek windows with the "shadow stripes". You can see what I mean in the attached pictures. The picture to the left is how it looks on my computer.

After much troubleshooting with my Windows 7 computers I have found the source of the problem but now how to solve it.

Here is how I reproduce the problem:

Personalize -> Window Color

Move the Color intensity slider and the shadow strips appear. Even if I click cancel the damage is done..

Can anyone tell me how to get the appearance back to normal? I know this is a tiny visual problem but it is driving me mad

Thanks in advance!

/ Nicko

A:Strange look of the taskbar and window titles

Try disabling Transparency.

Go to Personalize>> Window Color>> Untick the box that says "Enable Transparency". Then adjust the color intensity slider to the color intensity you like. But after this, the glass effect will be gone

On start up of my computer I am receiving the following message (see attached picture). I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

This all happened when I was on the internet and I ran into a malicious site and a pop up box appeared and it wouldn't go away when I clicked the X box, it would just keep reappearing every time. I then just shut off my computer and when I turned it back on now this message appears every time and I just click X every time and it goes away. I ran AVG free virus software and there appears to be no virus, but I have no idea how to get rid of this annoying start up message. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Strange Window is appearing on Startup

Hi Pan,

A couple of things to try:

Firstly, lets try another scan with a different AV program. Please download, install, update and then run a FULL scan using FREE Malwarebytes.

Secondly, can you do a search in Windows Explorer for that exact file? Where is the file located?

Post back here if you need more help.

Golden

Today for the first time I noticed a small window titled "Adobe Reader" show up on my desktop when I go to my bank's website. The window only has a Question Mark and an OK button with no close option.

At the same time, I cannot seem to see my statements, which are adobe pdf files, even though the protected mode is off.

Perhaps it is a coincidence I installed Photoshop CS4 last night, but probably not.

I will wait until tomorrow to do a restore to see if anyone has any other suggestions. Or anything to check out for the beta.

A:Strange Adobe Reader Window

Try to disable de adobe plugin on the browser to open the pdf with the adobe program and not inside de browser.
I had the same problem in firefox and solved this way, maybe an adobe compatibility issue with windows 7, but nothing relative to CS4 install.

Saludos.

My troubles coming in bunches. In addition to CMOS pattern failure, I now have a window appearing with the desktop. I have had an icon for a long time named "Seldom Used Icons" on the desktop which I have dragged other icon shortcuts into to reduce clutter on the desktop screen. Now when I bootup, the Seldm Used icon" window appears along with the normal desktop icons. This has happened right after i ran the Dell PC checkup program which showed a failure in CMOS pattern. Any relationship??. I cannot access SETUP by pressing F2 along with these other problems.

Hi,

When I have Google Chrome running, there is a strange stub window that appears on my desktop.

It has no dimensions (is as small as a window can possibly be), has no close/minimise/maximise buttons, and is not resizable.

It appears towards the top left corner of the screen.

When I close down Chrome it goes away.

Does anyone have any ideas what it might be, and if so should I be worried about it?

Many thanks,

David

What are your settings for 'custom' visual effects? You could try looking at some of those and see what works best for you.

I happened to click on a link on my friend's wall about a "girl who killed herself after dad posted a pic" ... I went to the page and it had a weird age verification thing where I just cancelled, but the button seemed to be unresponsive. I just exited the page instead.

And then, in my wall, it said that I "liked" that page, along with 3 other similar pages (OMG this girl killed, shocking! this girl, Girl killed) that I never even went to. Is it possible for facebook to auto-like? Or is this some sort of a virus?

Hello everyone Bizarre Occurence so I ve had a new Bizarre Occurence laptop dv tqe- for Bizarre Occurence a few weeks Just about half an hour ago I ran into a problem that really freaked me out and still worries me All of a sudden out of nowhere my touchpad buttons and alphabetic keys stop responding I could still alt-tab between programs and go into task manager but the only way to exit the latter was with the ESC button Shortly followed by that my Windows scheme changed to basic After minutes my alphabetic keys and right mouse button started responding again My left mouse button still wasn t responding even the tap to click function which I know I enabled wasn t working I didn t know if it was a virus but immediately disabled my WiFi just in case I restarted my laptop and thank goodness everything was working again I can t remember if the Windows scheme changed back before I restarted or not but it is no longer basic So I m not really sure what to think or make of all this not sure if it was a virus a program I was using or something I accidentally enabled Anyone know what this whole fiasco was all about I m really worried about it not sure if I d rather have it be a hardware or software problem if it was anything The specifics I can recall was that I was playing on an emulator zsnes and switched to Firefox to go to GameFAQs to look something up can t remember if it started happening once I was on the site or if I switched back to the emulator

The problem is something Terry Net called In our exchange of posts my seeking to find how an individual email went missing from my Client Sent items folder he determined that it occurence Weird is probable someone has had access to my machine probably installing a remote access I will copy this to the top of the post that opens when I click this link Hi I have noticed that my Weird occurence sent items box in my email client windows mail seems to be missing emails I sent I wanted to know if there is some way for recipients to delete themselves from a senders client This has happened before during a long legal process mostly conducted by email and on that occasion most of the emails for the months of that interaction went missing from my client and my server My ISP concast refused to help find out how that selective removal from the server happened If I had to guess someone has created an app or program that does this I realise it is illegal but if legality were no problem this site would not exist On a different tack if my questions do not go anywhere and assuming it to be true it is that the sent email is missing from my client I have not noticed anything else missing how might that be done I don t need instructions just the general way so that I can figure out how to prove it and protect from it Anyway seems very weird for this one email to go missing from my sent items box I noticed this because I wanted to check exactly what I had written before following up I sent it about days ago nbsp

I have suddenly got a ghost-like task bar on the top right of my screen. It is transparent and always on top of any window that is open. I have created a screen a sample from a screen shot:
It closes itself during the shutdown process and behaves like a window except that clicking on it does nothing - you can't move it, and you can't close it.

I have searched the web in vain for answers. Has anyone seen this before?

Thank you in anticipation

A:Getting a strange window at boot with unreadable characters in it.

Welcome to TSF!

Sounds like the Legal Notice registry keys have gotten corrupted.

Do step 1 for all versions of XP
Do Step 2 for XP Home (XP Home doesn't include the Local Security Policy tool, this is the manual method for step 3)
For XP Pro or Media Center you can do either Step 2 or Step 3, you do not need to do both.

Reboot, and see if that removes that box.
Click Start | Run, type regedit, press Enter.
Navigate to here:

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
In the right pane find these 2 items:
LegalNoticeCaption
LegalNoticeText
Make sure they are blank -- double click on them and make sure there isn't even a space in the box.
Click Start | Run, type regedit, press Enter.
Navigate to here:

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system
In the right pane find these 2 items:
LegalNoticeCaption
LegalNoticeText
Make sure they are blank -- double click on them and make sure there isn't even a space in the box.
Control Panel | [Performance and Maintenance] | Administrative Tools | Local Security Policy
Navigate to Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options
Check that both these items are blank:
Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on
Interactive logon: Message title for users attempting to log on
Make sure they are blank -- double click on them and make sure there isn't even a space in the box.

A:Strange window in upper left corner

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.
