I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can boot to a command prompt using you W7 install disc. Command Prompt at Startup

After getting to the command prompt, you need to run Diskpart with the Clean option. Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

Next boot with the W7 disc and start the install.

A:I'm stucked at installing new Windows 7

Do you know if you have a genuine valid Windows 7 Home Premium installation disc?

Did HP ship the PC to you with Windows 7 Ultimate installed? Or did you install Ultimate after you got the PC?

During the installation, did you attempt to delete all existing partitions?

Hi everyone. I am new here. I need help.

I just can't figured out how to install windows 8 enterprise edition x64 under UEFI secure boot on Asus P8Z77-M motherboard. Is anyone ever successfully doing so?

I have installed the latest bios version 1806 and reset to the default setting. I has enabled CSM on the boot setting under advanced mode and changed the following:

Boot Device Control: UEFI OnlyBoot from Network Devices and Boot from Storage Devices: UEFI FirstBoot from PCIe/PCI Expansion Devices: UEFI First

I followed the instruction on here about how to setup installation media on my flashdisk. At the boot menu, I also see my UEFI installation media, but I can't boot to it. The computer just go back to the BIOS again. Do somebody can help?

when I check my secure boot state with powershell, it just response like in the image, instead of FALSE

Sorry for my bad english

So I've spent quite literally all of today trying to find a solution to this Vista Booting Errors Windows but to no avail I'm dual booting Ubuntu Windows Vista and Windows XP via Grub boot loader Ubuntu and Vista are partitioned on a GB Hard Drive while XP is running on a separate GB Hard Drive I've been using this set-up for a little over and year and had absolutely no problem until Windows Vista Booting Errors around the start of December Every so often when using Vista my main OS my computer will completely lock up and either give me a Blue Screen error message or force me to restart it Upon doing this when I go to load up Vista again I'm greeted with yet another Blue Screen I've been able to fix this problem by using the repair function on my OEM Vista install disc However today I got yet another crash upon repairing via the install disc and restarting Vista I was given an error message claiming my vista activation wasn't valid So after a little bit of looking around I used this guide http social microsoft com Forums e - a b to solve the activation issue and get Vista back up and running After logging on to Vista everything seemed to be up and running fine I went to control panel and turned off UAC controls which I had been using prior to the crash for testing purposes and restarted my computer Problem solved right Well not exactly Upon restarting Vista I was Greeted with yet ANOTHER error message telling me my MSI DLL file C Windows System Msi dll was either corrupt or missing So I did the logical thing at least in my mind and grabbed my Vista install CD and went into repair the missing file Upon checking my Vista partition for errors it either told me there was a problem and claimed to have repaired it or said there were no problems found sadly I can't remember which it was I went to load up Vista yet again and was given the same error message After that I tried booting vista via Safe Mode somewhat unsurprisingly I was given a Blue Screen while trying to load Windows Vista I've tried pretty much everything I can think of System Restore failed to work and as I mentioned Safe mode and any variations such as Safe Mode with Command Prompt fail to boot as well The closest I've come is running XP going into the hard drive Vista is on and finding the Msi DLL which is listed as being kb which I'll take as a sign of it obviously being corrupted I've downloaded a replacement DLL file and tried to replace the corrupted one with a working one but sadly thanks to Vista's wonderful file quot security quot I'm unable to make any actual changes to the dll file via XP So basically that's where I stand I've done a good bit of research and turned up absolutely nothing so I was wondering if anyone could possibly be of any help

Hi -

Don't know much about tri-boot or even dual boot configurations, but I can tell you that msi.dll is the Windows Installer. Is your system repair DVD the same version as your installation (i.e., SP1)? Or it may be that your installer has been upgraded.

Windows Installer - http://support.microsoft.com/KB/942288

Here are 3 MS KBs re: Vista & XP dual boot -

I have tried installing windows 7 on my vista machine on a seperate partition, but once all setups are complete and win 7 is ready to load, the bootloader won't come up.

This is my friends win 7 disk and he claims to have installed it several times on a clean hard disk.
To get back into vista, I had to begin reinstalling windows 7, then before i boot into it for the first time to let it configure i went onto vista and formatted / removed entry in boot loader.

I have also tried running the "are you ready for windows 7?" application and it was fine with it.

I'm currently using my vista disk to system restore and get some luck out of that, but otherwise, I have no idea. Can anyone provide some advice?

Ok so the title explains it all. The booting time for any windows installation takes way too long. Does anyone know a fix for this. If there is none, its not that much of a big deal. But a fix would be nice. Also some windows programs take a while to also boot up their installation, like office 07.

A:laptop not booting after recently installing windows 10

treasureplant41 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about your laptop no longer booting in Win10 and wanted to help. There's no telling how much damage you did by removing the power adapter, so let's hope the simple fix will work -- repairing the boot loader files. To do this, you will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.Once you have that, please download and create Win10 install media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit).  While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!Boot from the media you created, and follow the directions in this link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.htmlYou will need to go to the Advanced Options screen and click on Startup Repair.  You will probably have to run Startup Repair three times for it to fix all the boot loader problems. If your PC then boots OK, you're good to go.  IF it does NOT boot, then more damage was done than the boot loader files. And, in that case, you would have to completely reinstall Win10 to get the PC working again, and while you CAN do that from the Win10 media you already made, since you can't boot into Windows, your only option is a clean-install, and THAT will erase everything on the PC and start clean.  So, the problem there is that you would have to copy off the files and data you want to save to an external drive or USB stick before you did the reinstall.Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Hello...I will start from the begining .

I bought the Acer V5 and tried booting it up...it came with boot-up Linux which means nothing to me so I made a Windows 8 bootable USB and the problems started. First I could'n find the USB and after enabling the Legacy mode it finally found it and booted from it. Turned out the partitions are GPT and as I made the USB MBR it couldn't install so I canceled which I guess was my mistake but there was no other option. After that I created the bootable USB with GPT partition scheme and tried again. Unfortunately this time I got something called GNU GRUB....wth? I googled around and found the commands required for booting - root (hd1,0), then chainloader +1 and finally boot. Then I get the famous The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors with Status: 0xc000000e. Of course tried that couple of more times but still to no avail. I cannot recover or repair as Windows was never really installed, so I don't know what to do....Hopefully someone here would be able to help. Thanks in advance guys.

Hey guys,
I've been so frustrated with my laptop for ages and my friend helped upgrade it to Windows 7 for me and now it's messing up

The wireless connection won't work and the sounds comes and goes and I have no idea how to fix it.

All I know is that it's a Lenovo laptop and I purchased it back in 2007.

Can anyone offer me assistance? Unfortunately, I don't know much about computers but hopefully I can get more information about the problems!

A:Errors after installing Windows 7

A couple things: you might want to see if the switch for your wifi connection is on. Following that, you can go into your control panel and see if your wireless device is added to the options of possible networks.

I was trying to install a ubuntu distribution to my primary hard drive (along side Windows 7) and at 99% of copying files the setup reported there was not sufficient memory to install backtrack. I cannot boot back into windows 7 as the computer resets before getting past the boot screen (shows 'starting windows' as normal then the screen blacks and takes me back to BIOS).
this process loops unless I select windows repair option, which does not fix the problem.
The Backtrack live CD won't let me delete the new, half-installed partition, so therefore I cannot change the windows partition back to it's usual (small) size of 55GB.

All help would be appreciated as I need windows on my PC for work

Thank you to all in advance.

I have been having major issues lately with my HP Pavilion DV t laptop running Windows Professional The computer is about years old and has had no issues up until about two weeks ago At the time I started to have trouble loading windows The OS would often Even OS Computer stops the booting 7 Reformatting/Re-installing Windows After fail to load and generate a blue screen error Computer stops booting Windows 7 Even After Reformatting/Re-installing the OS and reboot itself before the windows loading screens had completed cycling through Afterwards the PC would typically fail to start if I rebooted it again and instead prompt me to run windows repair and or system restore At first running those utilities would fix the issue and the computer would work again for a Computer stops booting Windows 7 Even After Reformatting/Re-installing the OS day or two However I found that these problems would just start up again soon afterwards and that I was eventually unable to start up windows at all At this point I was even unable to even boot up safe mode The drivers for safe mode would start to load but then the loading sequence would eventually freeze up and nothing would happen often the computer would just crash after a few minutes After the PC tried to prompt me to do system repair a few times after crashing or producing a BSOD error it eventually would not work anymore and I would have no way to access windows It would also not let me conduct system restore after going through the routine of not loading windows a few times After I got to this point I decided to just go ahead and reformat the whole computer and reinstall windows from scratch Every other option I had such as repairing the current windows installation was not working at that point After I did this and re-installed the OS it appeared to fix the problem at first However the computer ended up having the same issues I had in the first place where windows would not load the not long after I had done a complete reformat reinstall It would then again prompt me to do a system repair system restore like I did before I reformatted the PC only to end up almost completely inoperable soon afterwards Since I first reformatted the PC I have done a reformat reinstall about times only to end up with the same result I should note that it appears that everything runs fine until I go to install the drivers for my ethernet wireless card which is the first driver I need after doing a full re-install Once I get connected to the internet the computer will crash following a BSOD error but then restart and act normal for a while It is not until the next day or about - hours after having the computer shutdown that it will not boot up into windows It doesn't seem to matter if I reboot or shutdown the computer multiple times soon after reformatting it I should also note that I have tried a number of anti-virus anti-spyware programs after re-installing windows to see if that may be causing the issue I ran superantispyware Malwarebytes anti-spyware anti-rootkit Kaspersky anti-rootkit CCleaner and Avast anti-virus but came up with no issues Does anyone think this is a software related issue or that this may be due to a hardware issue I feel that the computer wouldn't turn on at all or wouldn't let me re-install windows in the first place if it was a major hardware issue causing these problems Let me know what you think I could do to help get my PC to work again Thanks

A:2 Windows Updates Not Installing, No errors

Unless you plan on installing Windows 10 on this machine, you don't need KB3035583 - simply Hide it.
KB2990967 is related to OneDrive (for Windows 8.x only!) - the simplest fix is probably to uninstall OneDrive, and then reinstall it from a fresh download.

I enter the Windows Install environment for XP, and install my 3rd party RAID driver, but when I try to actually install windows it says it can't copy the files, though the disk is still in the A:, and the setup hasn't changed.

The indication I get when I skip loading the files is a BSOD: ***STOP 0x0000007B (0xF894D528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Do I need a particular file structure for Windows to see my drivers that it JUST loaded 2 minutes before?

Trying to install fresh copy of windows 8 pro x64. The system had windows 8 pro running on it before I decided to reformat without issues.

NO HARDWARE changes were made whatsoever.*

I have tried installing it over a dozen times from both USB and dvd. Tried 2 different copies, one of which is directly from Microsoft.*
I format the drive before installing to make sure there is no trace of the previous OS.

After it installs is when I get issues.

Getting all sorts of random errors, module failure, and bluescreens. It won't update either.

Once installed It won't alow me to run windows upadte, or restart without all those errors.
At work currently trying this a few of the numerous errors I remember were:
page fault in nonpage areas
Windows module installer has stopped working
bad pool caller.
*Any ideas?

A:Hard drive errors after installing Windows 7

First thing I would do is along side that chkdsk I would run a sfc /scannow and try one more time since you got nothing to lose, if that doesn't work or sound like the way to go you can always try a hard drive cleaner by connecting your hard drive via sata/usb cord to another computer and try one of these programs
Five hard disk cleaning and erasing tools - TechRepublic

And last if this doesn't work chances are your hard drive has failed and you will need a replace in order to work.

Hey joeycedric .

I can assure you, if the Windows installation media is from a legitimate source it is NOT a problem
with the Kernel / NTFS.sys driver.
When you say:

Did you consider a Motherboard fault?
Can you access the desktop in SAFE-MODE?

If you're able to access your desktop, please follow

   Tip
Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial "If you have errors"
Test the RAM with Memtest86+ for at least 7-10 passes. It may take up to 22 passes to find problems. Make sure to run it once after the system has been on for a few hours and is warm, and then also run it again when the system has been off for a few hours and is cold.

When done with the testing procedure take a picture and upload it here.

This will help you to determine where the issue is origination from (if any):

But if it starts showing errors, Stop testing. Errors/red lines means one or more RAM is faulty. But the fault may occur due to a faulty DIMM slot, too, which is a motherboard component. Using memtest86+, you can discriminate between a faulty RAM and a faulty motherboard.

How? Say you have two RAM sticks and two DIMM slots. You obtained errors at the test with all RAM sticks installed. Now, remove all the sticks but one. Test it in all the available slots, one by one. Continue the same procedure for all the available sticks.
How to make the inference that is it a RAM issue or it is a motherboard issue? Suppose you have got the result like that:
testSlot1Slot2RAM1ErrorErrorRAM2GoodGood It is a RAM, a bad RAM.

But if you have got a result like that:
testSlot1Slot2RAM1ErrorGoodRAM2ErrorGood It is a motherboard issue. The particular slot is bad.

Hello there My computer started running incredibly slowly recently I noticed that one of my four CPU cores installing - 8000FFFF Windows Errors & 8024000B Updates not was running at and I could not install any Windows Updates After booting in clean mode the CPU core is no longer running at but I have still not had any luck installing any Windows Updates since July th and the computer still periodically takes an incredibly long time to accomplish simple tasks Windows Updates not installing - Errors 8000FFFF & 8024000B If I allow Windows Update Windows Updates not installing - Errors 8000FFFF & 8024000B to run its course it ultimately fails with error code FFFF If I cancel the update I will occasionally get the error code B In attempting to fix this problem I have switched my Windows Updates to manual I have tried downloading the updates and installing them manually with my WIFI disabled I downloaded the Update Readiness Tool and ran it though this only worked after I cleaned my registry with WISE The updates would still not install and at this point I began getting messages that my Windows might not be genuine even though it was pre-loaded OEM with the laptop when I bought it I ran sfc scannow and it stalled at verification the first time The second time it completed but informed me that quot Windows Resource Protection Windows Updates not installing - Errors 8000FFFF & 8024000B found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them quot I have attached the logs Thank you for any help you can offer in helping me to fix this issue I have created a partition where I can load the Windows ISO to do a clean install if it comes to that but I would prefer to not have to wipe my whole drive I do not have a disc that would enable me to do a repair install as my copy of Windows was pre-loaded on the laptop when I bought it new I could burn the ISO to a disc but again this is a huge annoyance

A:Windows Updates not installing - Errors 8000FFFF & 8024000B

I've never seen a similar SFC scan.

It looks to me as if it's stuck in a loop - but it's telling nothing about where or why.
The CheckSUR log is clear.

Having said that, the background errors in the CBS possibly indicate disk corruption.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC and CheckSUR again, and post the new CBS folder.

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

Thanks a lot for posting this over here for me I know that it was a bit of a pain, so sorry about that. Well done on posting your logfile. Anyway...

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!
@Sailenav: Ignore the above

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

Thanks a lot!

Richard

Dear Gurus,

Windows update won't install windows 7 sp1. I tried to run the System Update Readiness Tool, but there is no problem in checkSUR.log file.
I' found some problems in CBS.log file. It's too big for posting complete file, so I posted only part.
Can someone help me to understand it
This is a problem more than a year.
Thanks in advance,
Michael.

A:Problem installing Windows 7 sp1, checkSUR log file NOTcontains errors

Post more lines of CBS.log. Best is post whole file (zip it).
Can you install any other windows update? If no other updates are available... uninstall one first.

Try to reset windows update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us

Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Download windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe from that page (last item). Then run it. Works?

whats on the damaged DVD? is it important? at tigerdirect.com I saw several 20xDVD/CD burners from $39.99 down to $19.99. if you want blue-ray they have a ASUS model for I think it was $199.99.
you said you removed the four screws so just order the model you want and depending on how
much you want to pay for shipping. will arrive next day to up to 4 days. if I order on thursday it comes
in by UPS on tuesday, standard shipping .

ps: the trojan had stopped also audio: when i log there was a small music which now is absent.

I starting having a problem with fatal exception errors, several, then a starting problem with the following message while trying to boot up: Invalid VXD dynamic link call to device number 3, service B. It says to run the windows setup program to correct, but that doesn't seem to work.

I have bought a new hardrive and reinstalled all software and the error message returns after several times booting up.

Sometime the computer works fine and then all of a sudden it will lock up, sometimes with a fatal eception error and sometimes not. Everything has been wiped clean and re-installed several times only to wind up with the same problem.

Any suggestion?

The format is windows 95 and then upgraded to windows 98 second edition. Running on a pentium 200. brand compaq.

A:Booting Errors - Need Help

OK so now you know two computers have totally different hardware "characters" so a system that runs in one won't run in another, you won't want to try that one again. Concentrate on getting a decent system into the one computer first so make your choice - preferably the one with the CD ROM that recognises a disk.

Also, I need to know that you aren't going to try installing on to two machines with the same disk otherwise advising you will be a waste of time.

So which one will you try to fix first and do you have a legitimate XP CD with a Certificate of Authenticity to use on it?

When I boot my system, I get an error over the
win2k desktop that says some system files have been replaced by an unrecognized replacement and that they need to be replaced by loading the
original files from the original win2k disk
but it never seems to be able read the disk after I load it. Also, some very strange things have been happening on my system recently. On bootup today it checked my hard drives and deleted a bunch of files, not sure which ones, but it looked like they had to do with Norton Anti-virus.
Add/remove programs does work.
Also, I can't boot from my win2k startup disks!

I was at a strange website recently and dowloaded
a file. Could I have a virus?
Norton Anti-virus says I'm clean.
Any help would be appreciated

Hello there,
I am a new Vista Home Premium 32bit user.
I just bought my new PC yesterday, it is an INTEL QUAD CORE, with 4 Gb RAM and it came with Vista pre installed..
I also installed PANDA Global security 2009, original of course.
So the problem is this: Each time I shut down the computer, it installs downloaded updates for Vista, the first time was ok , but the second time it said it was installing 34 updates, so when it reaches ..34 of 34, it just stays there, does not shut down, and when I hit the reset button, it boots normally but when I try to shut down again, it says: istalling 34 of 34 and stays like that again....

Please help me, and forgive my English!!!
Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Update gets stucked!

hey George,

when I first got my updates through I had 24 to install and I had to leave my laptop running though the night before it shut down on its own. How long have you let it run in that process??

Hi kxg0000 and welcome to TSF !

This is a Dell isn't it ?

Follow this troubleshooting guide :
http://support.dell.com/support/topi...dhs&dn=1089357
and (re)install Microsoft .Net framework.

Which version of Dell Support do you have installed ? If it's the 2.x version I would uninstall it (follow this link) and install the latest 3.0 one : http://support.dell.com/support/topi.../dellsupport30

Note that Dell Support isn't required at all. If you're comfortable with doing the software and drivers updates on your own then you can get rid of it.

You may have performed some of these steps already. About half way down are instructions for downloading HijackThis and creating a log. When you have done that, post a log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. Please include the top portion of the HijackThis log that lists version information. An expert will analyze your log and reply with instructions advising you what to fix. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. If after 5 days you still have received no response, then post a link to your HJT log here. After posting a log you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc.) unless advised by a HJT Team member. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make may cause confusion for the member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

Hello folks, here is my problem, i have recently just looked at my event viewer (never have b4 as i have had no need to) and it is showing that the past 400 boot ups have an error/warning or say critical. Although i have never encountered any problem during use i found it quite worrying when i saw this. The event i.d is 100 on all of them. Any and all help is much appreciated thanks.

A:Why is my event viewer is showing 400 booting errors?

A quick google search reveals this error to be windows 7 detecting a degrading in system performance and boot time. This is typically caused by having to many services and startup programs enabled.
Does your machine take a while to start?
Using method three from this guide,

Startup Programs - Change

Please post a screenshot of your startup programs.

Is most cases the only thing needed is your antivirus/antimalware software checked.

A:Computer running slow/errors in booting

Run the following:

Download http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.
Please close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on Adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Delete.
Confirm each time with OK.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

Post that log..

Next,

Delete any versions of Combofix that you may have on your Desktop, download a fresh copy from the following link :-

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Ensure that Combofix is saved directly to the Desktop <--- Very important

Disable all security programs as they will have a negative effect on Combofix, instructions available here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html if required. Be aware the list may not have all programs listed, if you need more help please ask.

Close any open browsers and any other programs you might have running

Double click the icon to run the tool (Vista or Windows 7 users right click and select "Run as Administrator)

Instructions for running Combofix available here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix if required.

If you are using windows XP It might display a pop up saying that "Recovery console is not installed, do you want to install?" Please select yes & let it download the files it needs to do this. Once the recovery console is installed Combofix will then offer to scan for malware. Select continue or yes.

When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
Note: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell us when you reply. Read here http://thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?page=20 why disabling autoruns is recommended.

*EXTRA NOTES*

If Combofix detects any Rootkit/Bootkit activity on your system it will give a warning and prompt for a reboot, you must allow it to do so.
If Combofix reboot's due to a rootkit, the screen may stay black for several minutes on reboot, this is normal
If after running Combofix you receive any type of warning message about registry key's being listed for deletion when trying to open certain items, reboot the system and this will fix the issue (Those items will not be deleted)

Post the log in next reply please...

Kevin

I would start with Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Also, you might want to check error logs through event viewer. To check error logs:Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click on Administrative Events

Check for any errors that are reoccurring or occurring at the time of startup. Especially pay attention to system errors and any errors with applications with SVC in their name.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the Event Viewer after I started up and saw nothing reported.

I think I'll leave well enough alone for now as my computer is running fine.

Sounds like a corrupt partition table.

Have a look at it with a bootable partition manager.

Could be tricky from your iphone.

D/L any or all of these free apps.

Make the bootable cd - boot it and see what it reveals:
