I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like it might be time for a reinstall to refresh the OS and overcome any lingering infection. Follow these same steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 particularly when it comes to drivers and Updates.

Otherwise work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 including the hardware tests.

Now here's a strange one... my computer will not reboot in safe mode. I turn on the computer, press F8, select Safe Mode (no networking), and the computer will reboot, give a message saying it was unable to successfully load windows, and ask me how I want to boot the system.

I have no problems loading windows normally.

Not sure if it will help any, but I'm also getting help in the HijackThis forum for some malware issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the title pretty much explains it. I can load XP Pro just fine, but if I try to load safe mode, it will load about 30-40 files and then reboot. I've tried both Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Network Support.

A:XP Reboots when loading Safe Mode

try this....

Start>Run

Type in "msconfig"

Click the "Boot.INI" tab

Place a check in the /SAFEBOOT box and than Apply and OK.

Restart your computer and see what happens.

hello,

My computer starts up, shows the windows XP screen, automatically goes to the blue checking file system on C: file system is FAT32. It runs the cosistency check and I can see no problems. It seems I have plenty of file space available. It gives me no error messages and tries to load the OS. It goes to a black screen and shutsdown, only to reboot and start again. I have tried safe mode and it does the same thing. I am running XP Home on one drive, 256RAM Pentium III chip...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:System Reboots And Safe Mode Does Not Help

It is likely a hardware problem (or a really nasty malware). You try downloading the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows and run some diagnostics.

Hello, I hope someone will be able to help me, I've been at my computer for days trying to fix it with no success. (I only have a basic understanding of computers).
The issue: When I turn my computer on, it starts to boot until the Windows XP Icon screen, then reboots itself, repeatedly. The power supply is staying on. I've tried to run the computer in Safe-Mode(w/command prompt), Last Best Config and every other option on that screen but does the same thing, starts, then reboots. I've taken my computer apart, cleaned all the dust off the fan, pulled out and inserted the memory card, made sure no cables were loose. This did nothing. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a virus from h*ll or a failing component?

Thank you!!!!!

In the recovery console you can use the expand command to extract a file.

Hello,

I have been dealing with a problematic virus for a few days now.  I am usually able to find some removal instructions when I get an infection and remove the problem on my own, but this is another level of problem obviously.  From what I have read I think I need to use the Farbar Recovery Tool to get rid of this.  I used it and got a log, but I do not know what to do next and am quite hesitant to begin trying to create my own fixlist file.  I will attach the log below.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a user who all of a sudden was getting a blank desktop with just their normal background on the screen.  No programs will run through task manager.  (Like if you run explorer.exe, nothing happens.)

If you reboot into Safe Mode, it loads, but then instantly reboots itself back to the blank desktop mentioned above.  Even Safe Mode command prompt.

What virus exhibits this type of activity?  And how can I get rid of it in XP without access to a command prompt?

I have a win2k pc that was upgraded from win98 about a year ago. It has been running slow for a few days then yesterday when started I would get a black screen with some pixelated colors but couldn't make out much. Now today after it starts up and goes the win2k startup screen with the bars on the bottom, it goes to the blank desktop screen for a few seconds then reboots. I can boot to safe mode with networking and everything works fine. So does that rule out a power supply issue? Its not on the internet much and after checking with adaware & websweeper, it only found a few cookies and it has avg for a virus protector.

Any advice on what to check next?

thanks

-George

My daughter's Sony PCV-W30 repeatedly reboots to the Windows XP (home) safe mode screen. It will not do anything else. Attempting anything reverts to that screen. The recovery CD's cannot be accessed. No software or hardware has been added recently. Is it a hardware malfunction...any ideas?

Ok so every time windows starts to load it freezes up then reboots. I can boot it up just fine in all three safe modes. I have used msconfig and tried to boot with the bare minimum then tried several different combinations. Windows still only loads in safe mode. I have deleted several programs and drivers including the graphics drivers. I have ran and cleared it of viruses and spyware using malwarebytes and combofix. I have also gone through with ccleaner to try and fix registry errors. I have even changed out the video card. If i take the hard drive out and put it in another computer it works just fine. Any ideas? If it was RAM or power supply then it wouldn't work in safe mode.

A:Xp constantly reboots but works in safe mode

if you can do a system restore when you first buy or installed the windows.
if you cant, unistall one program by one. specially one installed before the xp stop working.
also the drivers. unistall one then restart. if it does not boot up go to the safe mode again and unistall other program or driver.
up untill all the programs and drivers are removed.
did you change any bios settings? if you did reset the bios config to default.
also dont use ccleaner its really bad. here they dont like registry fixers.

Remove the old hard drive and put it aside... Get a new drive and install it. Install Windows and go to HP's support site and download and install the chipset, video, audio and network drivers for your HP model. After the computer is up and running, install the old drive as a "slave" and recover any data you need from the slave drive

So basically I have Windows 7 installed on a 250GB Seagate external HD. I can boot it with no problems using a VM in VMware Workstation 7.1.3, but whenever I try to native boot it, it takes a long time to load and when the 'starting windows' is reached a blue screen flashes and then the machine reboots.

I tried to run it in safe mode, but it reached Classpnp.sys and then rebooted.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Hi all I have a Windows installation that I seem to be in an 'endless loop' on First off if I just let the system reboot it comes to the windows splash screen and then reboots again This will happen endlessly if I let it If I hit startup - 7 reboots mode even Windows safe during in F during boot up I do Windows 7 reboots during startup - even in safe mode get the Windows menu I have tried using the 'repair' options but they don't succeed in solving the problem I have tried going into Safe Mode and that also reboots after getting to the 'CLASSPNP sys' driver at least that's what it displays on the screen So I thought I would just 're-install' Win Windows 7 reboots during startup - even in safe mode I boot from my Win DVD and my options are 'upgrade' or 'clean install' If I do 'upgrade' the DVD tells me that I need to start Windows first and then run Upgrade Of course I CANNOT do that since Windows won't start I'm afraid to do CLEAN INSTALL as I don't want to lose all the files on my system Please does anyone have some advice This shouldn't be so difficult Oh also when I try to do System Restore from the repair menu it says I don't have any restore points although I'm pretty sure I did Thanks Dave

Hi I was trying to burn an MP DVD using Acoustica MP CD Burner software That was a full Gb DVD that the software had only in min, then mode. on reboots... OS won't then safe stays unless load, And 1 first to convert then burn Acoustica is a great software that boosts cuts mixes the songs in any order you like and OS won't load, unless in safe mode. And then stays on only 1 min, then reboots... then allow you to burn Well after running for hours the software still wasn't done going though the list and preparing the files for burning I let it running and went to sleep On waking up this morning the computer had obviously restarted by itself and was now stuck at the windows XP booting screen the one with the little bar showing quot progress quot Remaining stuck there for at least minutes I booted the computer It remained stuck at the same point I booted and pressed F and chose safe mode Great that got me to a full safe-mode load And then after about one minute the system crashed I had a blue screen and the system rebooted Again stuck at the XP load screen I rebooted myself and pressed F again for safe mode I thought I could safe restore to a previous point But the computer won't stay on long enough Now I haven't installed any new software in ages Nor downloaded anything that computer isn't even hooked up to the internet I changed the power supply about months ago without problems since I can keep the computer running indefinitely at the command prompt and do operations with it edit files run DIR commands etc which probably means that the hard drives are ok Now any clue as to what I could do next for diagnostics Looks as a software thing to me Yet I wonder if I could simply have overheated the processor it was taking FOREVER to actually prepare that MP DVD usually there's not problem though Thanks for reading and helping out Yohann

A:OS won't load, unless in safe mode. And then stays on only 1 min, then reboots...

slave the drive in another pc, defrag it and try again

possible cause could be bad sectors, which when accessed caused the pc to restart.
the defrag will hopefully move all files to good sectors.

Do you have a XP disc? If so you can boot from the CD. There are a few things you can fix.

1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted to do so.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted to do so, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. Type "chkdsk -r" (with out the quotes) and press ENTER. This will check your HD for any errors and attempt to fix them.
6. You can also check the windows files by typing "sfc /scannow"

Hello!

Firstly, sorry if it's a dupe, search doesn't work on my cell.

Yesterday I left my pc running, and when I came back, found a black screen. Rebooting, I came across some random characters in the POST and also in BIOS, after which, the same black screen. I googled this, removed the video card and the bios and post look normal now( i use the onboard video), but when trying to load windows, the pc reboots.
I tried system repair, chkdsk. When trying to boot in safe mode, it loads up to "AtiPcie.sys", then reboots.

What could I do? Thanks

Go into safe mode, go to device manager look for red or yellow flags.
The last thing you installed will probably have to be removed, thats
usually the case. Your pc didnt like something you installed, maybe the
wrong driver, or a issue with usb.

A:Computer Reboots Safe Mode Only after Rootkit cleaned??

Hi jetjockchicago,Welcome to Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal (VTSMR) forum. I am going to assist you with your problem. Please refrain from making any changes to your system (scanning or running other tools, updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might interfere with our fixes. Please let me know in your next reply if you agree with this.I need some feedback from you. Tell me if you have internet connection when going to Safe Mode with Networking by using A8 key. And if the log you have posted is made from there. If it is not the case tell me how do you mange to download the tools and post the logs. I need to know our options in diagnosing and running the tools so that I know what tools I can use (some tools need internet connection) and also it will be minimum effort for you to perform the fixesWe need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make. Open Windows Defender. Click on Tools, Options. Scroll down the list of options to select "Real-time Protection Options." Uncheck "Use Real-Time Protection (Recommended)". After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.Note:After all of the fixes are complete and I give you the clean sign you enable Real-time Protection again.Make sure the ThreatFire is not running as long as we are not done with all the fixes and the system is not cleaned. We prefer to uninstall it, you can install it after we are done. But in case you have problem with it you should make sure it is not running as log as we are not done. To do that: Right-click on the system tray icon to disable/ shot down/ close the program.Go to Start > Run, type services.msc and hit Enter. In the right panel under Name tab find ThreatFire.Double-click on the service and set the Startup type to Disable.Under Service status click Stop.Click Apply and OK.Tell me if Spyware Doctor is just the antispyware version or if it is also antivirus.Important: You must run the tool in normal mode. Please download OTL by OldTimer.Save it to your desktop.Double click on the OTL icon on your desktop.Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.Under Output select "Standard Output" checkbox.Set Services, Drivers and Standard Registry to All.Click Run Scan button. Two reports will open, copy and paste them to your reply:OTL.txt Will be openedExtra.txt Will be minimizedDownload the GMER Rootkit Scanner exe file from here and save it to your desktop.Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security program drivers will not conflict with gmer's driver.Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled.Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Make sure the following are unchecked:SectionsIAT/EATDrives/Partition other than C:\ drive (C:\ drive should remain checked)Show All (this one also should be unchecked)Then click the Scan button & wait for it to begin. (Please be patient as it can take some time to complete). When the scan is finished, you will see the scan button appears again. Click Save to save the scan results to your Desktop.Save the file as gmer.log and copy/paste the contents in your next reply. Please include in your next reply:The two OTL logs. The GMER report.Feedback to the questions.

We took my husbands netbook to a computer repair place and thought they fixed it, they said they cleaned it up, that there was some spyware, etc. Now it is stuck in reboot over and over. I've tried safe mode, debugging mode, VGA mode, etc etc. Every option that comes up I have tried and it just reboots over and over. There is no cdrm drive, only USB ports, and we don't have any Windows disks. When I select the option to not automatically reboot the BSOD shows up and has a Stop 7E error. Is there any hope at all to fix this? Thank you x1000000000000!

Hi

Thanks in advance.

I think I've infected with malware my emachines NV51 running NT Home Ed Win 5.1. (I used a USB that could have been infected from my other laptop).

It runs fine - and quickly - in Safe Mode but when I try to log in normally nothing happens - the log in screen does not move. Earlier it was letting me log in but the eggtimer was hanging - there was no action. And it was running very slow.

Also, it told me repeatedly that it had detected new hardware when I had n't installedI any.

But I had been deleting files and running updates etc so I could lend it to a friend, too - so maybe it is not malware.

Can anybody help? (These machines don't have CD drives, just USB)

Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire 6920G laptop. It worked fine yesterday shut it down as usual. This morning it took me to the repair screen but windows can not repair. I haven't set up a restore point either =( The laptop will start in safe mode but I'm pretty lost as to what to do from here.

I read a post that instructed one user to go to the device manager page under system devises and look for anything with a (!) I have a yellow triangle with a ! next to Consumer IR devices. Not sure if that means anything. Any help or advise is appreciated.

Thanks, Natasha

P.S This is my husbands laptop that I have killed and he can only go with out playing WOW for so long LOL

Hello, ddad62.
My name is etavares and I will be helping you with this log.

Here are some guidelines to ensure we are able to get your machine back under your control.

Please do not run any unsupervised scans, fixes, etc.  We can work against each other and end up in a worse place.
Please subscribe to this topic if you have not already done so.  Please check back just in case, as the email system can fail at times.
Just because your machine is running better does not mean it is completely cleaned.  Please wait for the 'all clear' from me to say when we are done.
Please reply within 3 days to be fair to other people asking for help.
When in doubt, please stop and ask first.  There's no harm in asking questions!

Step 1

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

If you are using Windows 8 consult How to use the Windows 8 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt to enter System Recovery Command prompt.

If you are using Vista or Windows 7 enter System Recovery Options.

To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

Restart the computer.
As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
Select your user account an click Next.

To enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:
Insert the installation disc.
Restart your computer.
If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
Click Repair your computer.
Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
Select your user account and click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Command Prompt

Select Command Prompt

Once in the Command Prompt:
In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64)  and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Computer rebooted after 'starting windows'

When starting in safe mode, it rebooted after loading classpnp.sys

This happened after I installed MSE and it detected a Trojan located in c:/windows. On hindsight deleting it was a bad idea.

I've tried using startup repair as well as sfc/scannow. I've also ttried unplugging the hard drives as well as changing the hard drive mode in the BIOS from ide to ADHCI and back.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Why, what would this accomplish? If software deleted a key windows component, the BIOS wont help you, nor will switching around harddrives. It may actually make 2 problems out of 1.

Also, have you tried a system restore (Use method 2 at the bottom of the post), provided you have a restore point?

Try a check disk for errors (Option 2): Disk Check

There is always an option to completely reinstall, but that would be a last resort type option. You would need to have the actual windows 7 CD. If you would like to do this method (eventually), make sure you are using the proper method, as someone with an upgrade CD would need to do something a little different, etc.

A:Help...recurring problem. random shutoff reboots but not in safe mode.

it does not happen in safe mode

That tells you that there is some software that is loading that conflicts with the OS, or you have a corrupted driver that trying to load. These are very difficult crashes that are hard to pinpoint, and the only way I know of is to check all your programs 1X1 and reinstall if possible, check all drivers for your system including any video cards, possibly delete/reinstall with latest updated drivers. Reinstall your motherboard chipset/video/sound drivers, and delete them first if possible. The CD that came with your computer will have all those drivers. I would not update them at this point if possible, sometimes updating drivers will cause problems with older software/hardware. Just try to get your system back to normal and concern yourself with updating drivers afterwards.
Try to remember exactly when this started, a real possibility is if you installed a new software program, updated your music software, started using a new browser, etc.
Sorry, man, I wish I could give you a quick and easy answer on this one, but random reboots are one of the most difficult problems to troubleshoot.
The only hardware that I can think of that may cause this is a power supply going bad or too low an output. The only way to test a PS is a tester (Newegg.com has them for $20-$50) or swap out with a different one that has a higher output.
Once a long time ago I had this problem and finally had to throw in the towel, just hosed my hard drive and reinstalled Windows and all programs and that solved it. I never did find the reason.

Hi, A friend of mine has ased me to look at her computer as it reboots and freezes at the black safe mode screen, if she leaves it turned off for about 10mins it will start back up with no problems, it does not sem to be over heating as this can happen withing a minute of booting up.
I have noticed that the dvd from light seems to stay on for quite a while when it boots up but then goes out.

Any ideas thx.

A:Computer reboots but freezes at the black safe mode screen

you say it freezes at the safe mode screen, is it automatically going to that screen or are you pressing F8 as it boots to get there?? if it is automatically going to that screen, have you tried selecting "last known good configuration"? or can you not even choose which selection to boot with?

Hi TSG,

I have a Dell PC here that refuses to boot in safe mode. In normal mode one of those dodgy Smitfraud infection messages come up (I've seen enough to know what they look like... this one takes you to Antivermins), so I know I need to use SmitFraudFix...

However, the PC refuses to boot in safe mode. And I DON'T think it is down to a driver, because XP goes as far as the logon screen, and reboots by itself, a few moments later.

I've done a full virus and malware scan with AVG and Ad-Aware with the hard disk in a "clean" test PC, and they found a few things, but even cleaning those up hasn't helped me get into safe mode. Any suggestions?

-Chris.

okay... so i was trying to get into safemode so i could run an antivirus scan, problem is whenever i tried going in safemode the blue screen would pop up and computer would restart. now for some dumb reason i thought maybe i could get in safemode if i used msconfig and selected safe mode from the boot menu. so the computer restarted and now it boots in safemode but the blue screen and restart happen everytime now. ive tried "start windows normally" but that boots in safemode.... ive tried "last known good config..." and that too boots in safemode. so now im stuck, i cant get on windows. any help please?

im willing to start over but i dont know how to do that from here

I'm new here and in hopes of getting this resolved. I just installed the new Norton Systemworks 2005 and rebooted after installation. When the boot screen got up to the blue screen with the Windows XP logo before displaying the login names where you put in your password, it just stops. I restarted a few times and waiting a few more times thinking it may need to 'finish' installing. But each time gave the same results. Finally, I went in with 'Safe Mode' and got in with no problems. Tried again in normal mode after looking around for any obvious problems (none found)... back to square one. Tried again in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and it failed like normal mode so I suspected a networking problem??? The last thing I tried which made me mad is that I tried to uninstall Norton Systemworks in 'Safe Mode' and that failed!! Anyone in these forums know the cure? :dead:

A:Unable to get to login screen, works in Safe Mode but in Safe Mode w/ Networking

Just a thought

Safe-Mode
Start \ Run \ msconfig \ diagnostic startup
disable any services attached to your most recent install and restart
should get warning next boot about using msconfig, its ok
One key service that needs to be available is the installer service
Try the uninstall, if doesn't complete
Try the uninstall string in the registry only if you know what you are doing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Under it you will see a list of installed programs. Some don?t show up as words but you can figure out what they are by looking at their values. What you are looking for is the uninstall string. Double click that key as if you were going to modify its value. Do a CTRL + C to copy and then exit the registry editor.

Go to START \ RUN and paste the uninstall sting and hit enter. This should launch the uninstall.

Just a thought though as I am not infront of a test system at the moment. You should research this a little further so you have a clear understanding of what you can and can't do with msconfig.

or simpler yet

Safe-Mode

Start \ Programs \ Access. \ System Tools \ System Restore

Select restore point prior to install of whats giving you the problem.

Again, Good Luck

PS If you try to install it again, turn of antivirus and other open programs etc..

i have windows home xp edtion on parkard bell.in safe mode it is fine, but when on normal bootup mode it will hang up after 2mins aprox(then restart saying crit error, check hardware etc and being to dump files kernel),on a blue screen.

i tried a different graphics card, but no joy.so i replaced the hdd drive and put a fresh copy of windows xp pro edtion on,but it loads all the files(i have not pressed f6)i just let it run its course on the disc, then it hangs up on the blue screen again with the words(crit error 0x0000007f)check hardware etc and if this is the first time you have seen it try starting windows again.

Thankyou for all your time.

A:Solved: xp safe in safe mode fine...mormal mode blue screen

Start in Safe Mode and look in C:\Windows\Minidump for crash log files with a dmp extension, like Mini071008-01.dmp. Zip 4-5 of the latest ones and post here as a ZIP or RAR attachment. The log file contains information useful to determine what caused the error, most likely hardware.

Hi I want to instal  one SSD disk on my computer. Do anyone now if it is  Sata 3 port on this computer ? If it isn`t can I install  Sata 3 port or do I have to chang motheboard ! Regards KOB32

A:HP Pavillion 15 Notebook PC-e061so

Hi: Run this free hardware analyzer that I have zipped up and attached below. Run the file, close the summary window and on the left side of the window, click to expand the Drives section. Then click to expand the sata/atapi drives section. Click on your hard drive name listed there.  The first line will be the Drive Controller spec. It will report the hard drive type running at a certain speed. For example Serial ATA 6 Gb/s @ 6 Gb/s. If your notebook only has a SATA II port, it might report Serial ATA 6 Gb/s @ 3 Gb/s, or Serial ATA 3 Gb/s  @  3 Gb/s.

You can spend a lot of time trying to fix the boot problem and clean the virus from the computer, or you can nuke it and reinstall Windows. I wouldn't bother trying to fix it, personally - I'd back up what I could and then I'd install Windows again.

Hello,

Recently my dad's computer had a corrupted hive and boot.ini. Via this website, I was instructed to run a chkdsk /r while in the recovery console. Everytime I used his OS disk to get into the recovery console, it prompted me for a password and I didn't know it (nor could I leave it blank). I decided to use my OS disk from my computer and I could fix the problem. Now, though, everytime I startup the computer, it prompts me to start windows normally, in safe mode, in safe mode with networking... To give further information...on that same screen there is an option for Windows XP and Windows XP Home Edition. Don't know if that has something to do with it. They both work though when I press enter on either one. Could anyone help me stop the computer from prompting me??? Thank you for any help.

Hello,I was recently given a pavillion dv9821ea laptop which was in bad shape after being infected with a virus. I eventually had to replace the hard drive and at the same time I upgraded the operating system to windows 7 PRO 64bit. I was unable to save nothing from the origonal hard drive, no drivers, HP software etc and since I installed Windows 7, the laptop seems to have several problems including not downloading Windows updates. I connect it to the HP assistant, but this recognises the laptop and only gives me the choice of Windows Vista as the operating system for which to support drivers etc. I wonder if you could help me by letting me know if there is anywhere I can download Windows 7 pro 64bit drivers for this laptop? my wife and I are both disabled and it would make a great difference to me if I could have full use of this laptop. Regards. Gerald

I have an Hp Pavillion that i purchased 2 years ago and have a black screen issue. I turn on the power and hear the fan and hard drive but my display is black. HP Support Assistant reports that there is a software update available to download.  Click yellow triangle, get to products, shows a software download available, but does not specify what the download is.

Click on Message / update.  Four segment square icon starts rotating through the segments.  Runs and runs and runs, now more than 2 hours.  Nothing downloads.

This is the third time today I've tried to download the supposed software update.  Same result each time.  Nothing downloads.

Same result each time.

Very frustrating

Alright this is a family s laptop that is about or even more years old has windows xp on it w/networking, in safe safe mode or normal not HP Pavilion boot command will in safe, dont know the exact one - - alright My sister has been using it and says she has never done anything to it which i dont believe but anyways this computer will not boot up what so ever everytime you power it on it goes to the screen that says unexpected error software hardware problem yada yada yada and HP Pavilion will not boot in safe, safe w/networking, safe command or in normal mode then it gives you the options of boot in safe mode safe mode networking safe mode command prompt last known good configuration and none of those will work we do have the recovery disks to wipe it but are trying to find a better way if possible and when you try to load into any of the safe mode choices it stops at multi disk rdisk partition WINDOWS System Drivers Mup sys will stay at that for about - mins and then just turn off HP Pavilion will not boot in safe, safe w/networking, safe command or in normal mode if you try to just do normal mode or last known configuration it just acts like it loads with the windows and the little green loading bar then shuts off the more i type the more i think the harddrive is toast but im new and learning so i probably could be wrong Just looking for suggestions Oh and this pc will run very hot so if its a hardware issue i would not be surprised nbsp

After attempting to start my Laptop in Safe Mode, it loaded drivers normally only to crash a few seconds later. A prompt message appears but is impossible to read because Windows immediately reboots upon showing the prompt.

Safe Mode with Networking loads normally.

Any ideas or advice?

The computer is an Acer 4743G running Windows 7 Home Basic x64.

Hello Zarmaki, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since it will startup in "Safe Mode with Networking", you might see if using the tutorial below to troubleshoot may help to find a cause.

Hope this helps for now,

Windows just downloaded an update to my ASUS x V laptop and now I can't get it to boot up I've tried booting in normal mode last successful mode safe mode safe mode with command prompt normal, boot safe c-prompt mode with mode, or Can't safe and nothing works If trying to boot in safe mode it gets stuck on crcdisk sys When trying to boot in any mode it eventually hits the blue screen with a STOP error of x E I have also gotten x E and x I am positive it's the latest Can't boot normal, safe mode, or safe mode with c-prompt Windows Update that caused this because my computer at work which also runs on Vista and is also an ASUS had an update yesterday When I came into work this morning and tried to start up it was unable to and did a start up repair That Can't boot normal, safe mode, or safe mode with c-prompt didn't work but it gave me a system restore option which did work Unfortunately my ASUS laptop does not prompt me to do a Can't boot normal, safe mode, or safe mode with c-prompt repair nor a system restore The recovery disk I have that came with the laptop only allows me to do a restore which erases everything on my HD I'm only somewhat computer savvy better at working with them than fixing them so please try to put things in layman's terms Thank you
