So this is in Swedish im sorry but it's a picture inside the System windows where u can see your Operative System & CPU, RAM and stuff like that. This is a pic of how it should look (all of you people probably already know how it should look :P )

This is nothing serious but it can get really annoying sometimes and i really wants to know how to fix it :) so if anyone has a solution to this it would be much appreatiated!(correct spelling if you want!) unfortunately i do not remember when or how it started etc. what i was doing when it started.

Thank you =)!

Preferred Solution: Administrator Icon Not Showing Properly?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Tim, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This would be the UAC shield icon to let you know that you will be prompted by UAC if the item is opened.

You might see if rebuilding the icon cache may help.

If not, then see if setting UAC to "Never notify", apply, restart, then set UAC back to default settings, and restart may toggle the icon back.User Account Control - UAC - Change Notification Settings
If still not, then run a sfc /scannow command.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

It's been couple of days since I upgraded my system to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Everything is working fine except this nasty error. If I pin apps to taskbar or run apps , the app icons on the taskbar are shown as white square. And I am seeing the same thing on Apps & Feature settings list. The icons are there but as the backgrounds are shown as grey-white chequered pattern (for the transparency ), it looks like white squares. Rebuilt the icon cache but to no avail. And on the start menu everything looks fine.

I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.

Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

Here's what I mean in graphic form:

It's bugging me to no end. Anyone else had this problem/resolved it?

A:Toolbar on taskbar should only be showing an arrow but is showing icon

Hello thewonkits, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I notice this happens when using small icons for a toolbar. If you like, you could unlock the taskbar, right click on the dotted separator line to the left of the two top far left toolbars (one at a time) click on View and Large Icons, then lock the taskbar to see if that may look ok to you. It will make the top row a bit bigger though.

Hopefully someone may know a better way to hide that bit of icon poking out when locked.

A:White 'File' icon showing over top of normal desktop icon

Hello JingleJangle, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It looks like your shortcut arrow overlay icon got messed up somehow. You can use either method in the tutorial below to restore the arrow icon. Method Two is the easiest way with the program.

Hello there,

Yesterday while at school, my mom was cleaning the upper floor and "merely wanted to open the radio" on my computer. When I came home, I found my Firefox without a persona, and when I opened the Ad-ons window and clicked on the different themes they were all blank, no matter which one I applied. When I accessed the Mozilla Labs Personas the site showed text only, unformatted and without images (see screenshot below).

What could my mom possibly do to get it to this state? I tried completely removing firefox with all settings and re-installing. Did not help.

In my application we are using webFonts, when we launch the application for the first time all the WebFonts/Icons are showing properly. When the pop blocker error dialog comes up and user allows the pop-ups for the site, the page is reloading and the webFonts/Icons
are not getting displayed. Once you close and relaunch the IE then again the webFonts/Icons are displayed properly. I am not seeing any errors in console.
Can some one help me out why it is happening and how to debug.

A:Resolutions not showing properly from card VGA to LCD TV.

Well that just sounds "normal" to me...

I've had a lot of experience with different cards and different TVs and TVs in general make horrific multisync monitors. In fact they ususaly simply are NOT multisync monitors. They have a very limited rage of fixed frequencies and levels and when you find one that works you just stick with it.

That said there are tools for adjusting your vid cards output in 1hz increments and changing the signal polarities and resolutions (Like Riva Tuner) and you can spend a lot of time tweaking away at it (And torturing your television). But if you have one that works and is reasonable (1280x720 for example) be happy

While working with Microsoft on the issue of deleting Spyware Doctor (seen elsewhere in this forum), their technical agent must have created a administrator log in (along with my password log in-the one with the King Icon) I like the idea of having a password log in but I really don't want to have the Administrtor log in along with it. Is there an easy way to delete the administrator log in and have just my log in (I am an administrator too) I guess this might have heightened administrative privaleges but I really don't want both on my machine and start up.

Thanks for any ideas on how to remove it.

A:Administrator And My Log On Icon Both At Log In

Go to the Start button, type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Type this command in to disable the built-in administrator account:

I have a very annoying problem.
I have got an application as shown in the picture above.
Why does only this application not show its own icon while it has its own icon as shown in IconExtract (an application that extracts icons from other applications) and all the other applications on my PC works fine with their own icons?
But the application that does not show its icon works perfectly well.
What I want is it shows its own icon.
It's very unclear when some of my applications does not show their unique icons. Sometimes it is harder to look for them without their appearance.

Many thanks for any help!

I have Compaq presario v6000 widescreen (service tag hp).

Laptop turns on normally but there is a problem with all the icons. There aren't any texts in those or anywhere, also when I go to ctrl+alt+del, there isn't text anywhere. When I click those objects it gets selected but nothing happens, and if happens there only comes an icon to the bottom of the screen...

I think the major problem has something to do with screen settings because right after starting up the laptop there is already a block on the bottom of the screen (don't know the proper name but the thing where things appear when they are running like itunes or safari)

DVD's are the only thing that's working.
There is nothing wrong with the touchpad or the mouse.

Help! I have tried everything!

This may be multiple problems but I m thinking they re all directly related so I m leaving it in one thread I had previously used TweakUI for XP to hide a couple users from the Welcome screen as well as set mine to Auto Logon That s as far as I know for sure before today Then my mind is vaguely recalling some other third-party program I ran into that was similar And that disabled those users even more I think end speculation Today I realized I need to re-enable one user So I pulled up TweakUI and the user wasn t even mentioned there on the Logon settings page that has options like quot Show user on the Welcome Screen quot So I pulled up User Accounts and sure enough the user isn t shown in there either My only options are my user Guest and Administrator And I m pretty sure that is the administrator the one you should only be able to get to Administrator Welcome showing screen users, *the* missing through Safe Mode Again I have the nagging feeling I enabled it in non-safe-mode somewhere along the line maybe at Welcome screen missing users, showing *the* Administrator the same time Meanwhile the missing users still have all kinds of stuff in the Documents and Settings folder so I really don t think the users are Welcome screen missing users, showing *the* Administrator completely gone Also by pulling up Command Prompt I did the quot net user username active yes Welcome screen missing users, showing *the* Administrator quot trick on one of the missing users and got quot the command completed successfully quot Still doesn t show on Welcome Screen Trying to do the same thing with a madeup username gave me quot The username could not be found More help is available by typing net helpmsg quot That told me to just type quot net user quot to get a list of users and the missing ones are listed So something in Windows knows the users still exist I just managed to hide them to the point that neither TweakUI nor the User Accounts applet in the Control Panel detect them I m on XP Home so I don t have access to that Local Users and Groups area in Computer Management So then there s this Administrator account that shows on the Welcome Screen As I said before I m pretty sure this is the Administrator account and I asked for it there once upon a time Certainly it hasn t been on the computer since I bought it several years back and I highly doubt I would have created a user by that name for the fun of it Now I want to undo that without risking really tampering with the account ie still work in safe mode I ve heard TweakUI is supposed to do enable it using a quot show administrator on welcome screen quot option on the same Logon screen That option is missing just as with the other usernames So I need to reenable one of the missing accounts and safely disable the administrator If anyone has any ideas as to what I did in the first place to cause these problems that would be helpful too Thanks

Hi

I have problems inputting Chinese characters. (no problem in viewing Chinese characters though)
They show up as squares in the edit field. But once I hit enter, the chinese character will show up properly.

A bit confusing but I think the screen shot below will show the situation clearer.

Some details here
- Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.
- 64 bit operating system
- Chinese Simplified Quan Pin (version 6.0)

Appreciate if anyone can help. Thanks!!

I had 2gb of ram and upgraded to 8gb recently. I really saw the performance at first but then it dropped off to where it was before pretty quickly. Right now my task manager performance tab shows 5.7 GB of ram being used, while adding up everything manually in the "processes" tab (and rounding up) shows 1.29 GB being used. I downloaded and ran a hidden process revealer (Process Revealer Free Edition 1.0 - Free hidden malware detector) which showed 0 hidden processes. This is also without any antivirus software running, as I know that can suck up RAM (although I just ran the windows antivirus scan with no results, and I'm running spybot S&D now). I'll deactivate all startup programs and reboot after the antivirus scan to see if that helps, but what could be causing this? I can't think of anything aside from a rootkit - definitely not good news.

A:Ram Usage way too high, not showing up properly in task manager

1. Did you click "Show processes from all users"
2. Did you account for the workspaces of those processes
3. Look into Resource Monitor > Memory tab. That will give you a better picture.

Am setting up a PC for a group and need the hidden admin account to be enabled but I do not wish to show the icon to all users. I have used this code to hide the icon:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList]
"Administrator"=dword:00000000
This works OK but Ctrl + Alt + Del does not show the icon as i believe it should when I need it. Any ideas please?

A:Hide Hidden Administrator icon

Hey Mitchell,

If you like, another option would be to set it where all users must enter both their user name and password at log in. This will prevent the Administrator and all users icons from being seen at log in.

I setup 2 machines running windows 7. I setup sharing in the homegroup between them.

For some reason on one machine when I access it via the networking folder I see the user libraries but also the adminstrators user folder???? Favorites, desktop, contacts, my pictures, etc.

Its the same thing almost on the other machine where the user folder for administrator is there but it's just empty.

Any idea what is wrong?

This symptom can occur if the C:\Users folder or its sub-folder is shared on one of machine and another is not shared. It's normal. You can share or stop the sharing folder in HomeGroup. If the folder is shared, it can be accessed on another machine in the HomeGroup. If you would not like to share certain folder, please right click it on the local machine and clear "Share this folder" option.

It's possible you installed the latest version of Java but somewhere on your PC there's an older uninstalled version still active.

Java actually has a tool for specifically for this purpose available here: http://java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml

After you run it you you'll be taken to a screen to confirm all previous versions have been uninstalled. From there you'll need to restart your browser. Hopefully this helps you or anyone who finds this page using the site specific search

Have you tried leaving then rejoining the Homegroup from the problem machine?

Have you tried changing the Workgroup name, rebooting then changing the Workgroup name back to what ever it was?

Have you run a system file integrity scan using the sfc /scannow command?

Having a system image handy from before the problem occurred would be an easy fix at this point.....

Hello Dawter -
There are 2 general ways to do this -
1. Un / Reinstall the program
2. Right click on the Icon and select Properties > Often there is an option to "Change Icon"
If you select option 2 a range of mainly Generic icons are offered to you - Select one of the offered items.
If this option is not offered, yours may just pop back, or you can use Option 1-

Hello.

I am running Windows XP SP2 and have a problem with the webpage icon shortcut. When I go to a given program using Start > All Programs > any program with a link to their web page, the icon displayed is the default document icon %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll (1) and not the web browser icon IE or FF. I have to change these manually by finding the icon target and changing it for each program's webpage.

Is there a way to correct this where I don't have to manually change each one but where the change would apply to all program's webpage shortcuts? I would like for the webpage icons to display the FF icon.

Many thanks for any help.

Try right clicking on one and choose "Open With" and then "Choose Program". A list should appear. Select Firefox from the list and make sure the "Always open this type of file with this program" checkbox is selected. Then hit OK. See if that works.

My usb icon does not show. Its not a big deal but it really annoys me when things dont work the way they are supposed to especially when they used to. This happened about a month ago. I turned on my laptop and bam, all of a sudden icons arent showing up and looking through forums i have fixed all but one. When i plug in any mass storage device (usb; flash drive, external hard drive, mp3 player) the icon shows a general icon as if the icon was missing. I have attatched a picture so you can see exactly what I am talking about. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Howdy,
I created an autoplay cd-rom for pc. In the root of the cd I have an AUTORUN.INF file that contains:

[autorun]
open=start.exe
icon=fscommand\mike.ico

The mike.ico icon is located in the fscommand folder.

The cd starts and autoplays as it should. However, the icon does not appear... a weird default icon appears. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks,

I noticed recently that all the icon thumbnails in programs (Corel, Adobe CS3) are all showing up as the generic broken link icon (a page with 3 shapes of different colors whereas should be the actual icon from the specific programs). I also noticed that in my music folders all the albums had a pile of thumbnails everywhere in each individual folder also there's this "thumbs.db" file showing up in each individual folder.

I'm a little bit confused as in what had happened and would like to know how to resolve it. I suspect is something to do with the registry error.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using a Microsoft Surface Pro with Windows 8 installed and still getting used to it. A couple days ago a new icon with the number 50 started appearing on the lower right of the Splash screen. (Not the Start screen),

Anyone have a clue what this is indicating?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like the "People" app, those are now many notifications you got. Open that app and close out the notifications, see if the number changes. You may be able to remove it from the Lockscreen, it would be under PC settings.

Hi,

In Windows 7 you simply either hover the mouse over or click the 'Show desktop' button that sits immediately to the right of the date/time on the task bar:

If this isn't what you're looking for let me know in more detail what you're after. Hope this helps.

I don't know why, but I've noticed that all the programs in the start menu with links to websites don't show the IE7 icon. Why is that. I've also noticed in the system32 folder that the shell32.dll shows up many times with numbers beside them. I have shel32(3).dll, 4,5,6 + the original shel32.dll. I don't think it's normal. How the hell did they duplicate like this? And how do I correct the situation with the icon association in the start menu?

Anyway so up until the beginning of the month my networking tray icon was working fine, showing the bars that show for WiFi and stuff... but now it just shows the LAN connection icon with a red "X" on top of it...

Lets try flushing DNS cache and renewing your IP.

Flush the DNS cache and restore MS's Hosts file ...
Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator.

Your computer will reboot itself.

Hello, I found this website while looking for help on this matter.

I noticed that, on the family computer, sometimes this weird icon shows up on the taskbar. When I right click it, it shows options to add keys, but I don't know if someone has access to the PC because of it or if it is triggered to open by something on the computer itself and is harmless.

I don't understand much about it. How can I get rid of this PuTTY? I can't find it if look it up on the PC, as suggested in this thread I found: https://forums.techguy.org/threads/putty-rnd-shows-up-in-my-files.826903/#post-6714012

Hi all.

Had a bizarre problem since installing Windows 7 that I'm hoping can be solved relatively easily.

The SD card icon in Explorer has always just shown up as a generic unknown file type icon.

I've tried rebuilding the icon caches and assigning an icon manually but neither has worked.

Apart from that everything is working spiffingly, it's just this one niggling issue that's stopping it from being perfect.

Hope someone can help.

Cheers.
