I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not too long ago (probably a week and a half), I took my laptop to be serviced and repaired as it was still covered under warranty. However, while some of those problems seems to have been resolved (four beeps and notifications stating that the display driver stopped responding) I noticed that it still has some of the issues from before. The internal fan is occasionally loud, which probably means that the system tends to overheat. When this happen, the notebook freezes up for a few seconds and restarts automatically.

I've been contemplating cracking open the notebook and seeing if the fan is clogged up with dust or whatnot, but I'm not sure what the safest way to go about it is. Thanks in advance.

My new ASUS laptop will not shut down. I saw a thread a couple of days ago where a Richc46 said to try disconnecting the internet connection and then trying to shut down and if that worked he knew how to fix it. However, the thread ended there. I tried this and disconnecting the internet connection worked. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem. I think Richc46 said it was something to do with the device manager, but I may be remembering that wrong. All of the other shut down menu options work (hibernate, sleep, restart, etc), it just won't shut down and restarts instead.

UPDATE: I had tried the disconnection of the internet and it worked and successfully shut down ONCE. I just tried it again and it is restarting like it had been, so it's not as easy as just stopping the internet connection.

A:ASUS laptop restarts instead of shutting down

Hello amigraarm and welcome to Seven Forums.

You may find there are several possible reasons why a computer restarts after shutdown. I'd suggest going through these Microsoft forum threads. Before attempting any of the suggested fixes it would be a good idea to create a restore point (or even better, a system image) just in case things get worse than they are.

A:Laptop HP G62 is shutting down randomly

Hi @ unicorn_dancer_, Thanks for being a part of the HP community. It is a great place to get your questions answered by experts. I saw your post regarding the notebook?s battery not holding any charge and degrading over time.  You have also swapped it out new batteries. It was commendable on your part to also get the charging port checked.  The issue may be hardware related. It could be battery controllers on the motherboard that charge the battery that could be the culprit or it could be a faulty motherboard. You could try a different charger if you are able to get hold of one.  You could visit this link to update the bios on your computer. Link: http://hp.com/drivers  which may fix the issue. You need to enter the unit?s product# and go to  the download drivers page, choose the correct operating system and update the bios. Please follow the instructions on the screen. If that does not work please run system diagnostics from this link: http://hp.care/2cVsiaUPlease run all the diagnostics. Make a note of any failure codes or error messages and reply back. I would also require the product# of the unit. It is found in this link as well. Please make note of that too. Hope this helps. Do let me know how this goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button for my efforts. Please remember to mark "Accept as Solution" if this helps. Thanks and have a blessed week ahead!

Hi I have an Asus P50iJ Laptop,heres a link to it Newegg.com - ASUS P50IJ-X2 NoteBook Intel Pentium dual-core T4400(2.20GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel GMA 4500M

My problem is that it keeps shutting down and I cant find the problem.I dont think its overheating because I opened it up and the fan was working fine and there was no dust in the fan or heat sink but I sprayed it down with some dust off anyway. This didn't fix the problem.I even tried taking it outside in some cold weather to see if it would help but nothing.
I tried a fresh windows 7 install but that still didn't work.It shuts off plugged in or running on battery to.
Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong with it?I bought the laptop last February but it broke around August.

A:Laptop keeps randomly shutting off

Could be the cmos battery on the board is bad, have you checked the asus site for the problem? Check temps with CPUZ or CPUID Hardware Monitor. I suppose it does a clean shutdown, no message on restart?

I have an HP Laptop that is shutting down randomly. To test it, I have been running it 24/7, and it seems to shutdown on it's own maybe once every five days. After it shuts down, I can turn it back on immediately, and it will stay on, so I don't think it's a heat issue. I also noticed that when defragging, it seems to get stuck on some ADS files (C:\WINDOWS:$SDS:$DATA ?).

The laptop had several viruses, but they have all been removed (but ya never know...).

Any suggestions on how to diagnose this? It's very difficult, since it's so hard to duplicate the problem.

Justin

A:laptop shutting down randomly

It could be anything at all causing that. Failing battery, hard drive, memory, any part of the motherboard, or any of a hundred other causes that I can't think of off the top of my head.

I think the first thing I would check would be the hard drive. Run a chkdsk on it from the command prompt just to see if it has any errors or bad sectors. If something shows up there, I'd start with that. If nothing shows in a simple chkdsk, take the drive out to get the manufacturer and then go to there web site and get their own drive testing software. Use their software to test your drive. If nothing comes of that either ........... your guess will be as good as anyone else as to what is causing it.

Sorry, but problems that are 5 days intermittent are very hard to nail down. You could check your Event Viewer before trying anything. It may show something in there. Go into Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer. If you need help using the Event Viewer, go to the Action menu once you've opened the Viewer and click Help.

Good luck!!

Problem started within the last month and I've had this laptop for almost 2 years. About a month ago, I noticed my laptop was very sensitive to movement. If I moved the laptop around, a lot of times it would just turn off. Sometimes static lines would appear across the screen and freeze the computer until I manually turned it off and sometimes the computer would just turn off itself. Yesterday, for the first time, the laptop randomly shut down while I was browsing the internet and plugged in to charger. Today the same thing happened three times. The laptop is not overheating and I am unsure what is causing this problem.
Sometimes, I will also get a memory management BSOD, but mostly it's just random shutdowns. Any ideas?

Hello,

My laptop keeps shutting off randomly, and without warning - the screen simply goes black, without the usual shut down process. My laptop doesn't feel warm. It doesn't shut down when the battery is plugged in. If i take the battery out, it usually shuts down instantly. However, sometimes i can turn it on without the battery plugged in and it will work for hours, provided i keep it relatively still (it seems to shut off if i move it around too much). Any idea what this might be? I assume it isn't a heating problem because it doesn't happen when the laptop is plugged in. I assume it isn't a battery problem either because sometimes the laptop can work without fail when not plugged in.

It seems completely random when the laptop shuts off.

Help?

A:Laptop shutting off suddenly and randomly

sometimes i can turn it on without the battery plugged in and it will work for hours, provided i keep it relatively stillClick to expand...

Problem with the power connection on the motherboard (powerjack). It is probably loose and most times doesn't make a good connection. If you get it working and don't move it, the connection holds.
These can be replaced but the laptop has to be taken apart to get to it.

For about the past week, not sure, my wireless internet on my laptop will occasionally shut off for about 5 secs. Not sure what causes it, suspect it might be the [email protected] application I got roughly around the same time. Out of the last 10 or so times I know it's happened, 8 of the times [email protected] app was currently running. But the few times I know it's happened when it wasn't on has me worried. I am currently working on a large WU, so I don't want to uninstall it yet to see if it is it.

I have run multiple virus scans with no results. There is the possibility it's because of my parents' modem, but we've had it for over a month and the problem has happened only recently. Also, I've never had this trouble with wireless before. Thank you.

A:Asus G73 laptop overheating on high end games and shutting down

It may very well be your fans again. You may need to open it up and clean it out with a can of air. Try replacing the thermal compound or pads. This may solve your problem. Plus inspect the motherboard for any lose connections. I am sure some one else here will have a few more suggestion to help you out.

I have an ASUS laptop that I beleive has become infected with a virus that is randomly closing down the laptop amp immediately re-booting it The laptop re-boots fine bar it tries to firstly locate a spyhunter fix rather than Laptop ASUS down shuts randomly the option of XP or Vista I can manually locate ASUS Laptop randomly shuts down the XP option amp then log in OK until the problem recurs The laptop works OK for indeterminate periods of time amp tends to shut down when opening or closing down a programme or a file It is for that reason I do not think I have a power supply issue or temperature issue which seem to be common problems I have advanced system care which suggests the laptop is in A condition amp when it is on it works absolutely fine I am suspicious of the spyhunter fix which I think must be rogue I am also unable to access task manager A longer term problem is I cannot run the laptop in safe mode It gets so far then just gets stuck I accept that any help on here may be limited due to this particular problem Most solutions seem to require safe mode From googling my problem a suggestion of SD fix seems to fit the bill except that I have been unable to download this from ANY link Again I am suspicious that this is part of something sinister going on rather than mere coincidence Any help at all would be appreciated Thanks in advance

um so basically I was playing the game called roblox I had a couple of IE pages open in the background and steam so nothing too memory hungry anyway I had been playing roblox for a while when suddenly it started lagging really badly for like seconds randomly My just asus) (win7 laptop turned off after which my computer calmly powered off I say powered off because it didn't tell me it was shutting down or give me a virus alert or a error or a warning or anything it just suddenly powered off not like it ran out of power because I don't have a My laptop just turned off randomly (win7 asus) battery in it I just have it plugged into the power but more like it just chose to power off for some reason why did this happen also I have another question why does windows task manager always tell me Even when I have just turned the laptop on that my memory is using like somewhere between GB and to about GB after its been running things for hours even if I close everything

A:My laptop just turned off randomly (win7 asus)

Please do the steps following in the following tutorial in case it was malware, it should not have lagged before turning off if it is a hardware crash: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free Please disable auto quarantine in case Malwarebytes finds any false positives. https://www.malwarebytes.org/support...dSettings.html If anything that seems to not be malware or potentially unneeded programs are found, such as system files or programs you think you need and use, please post a screenshot of the list of detected items: Screenshot with Paint, Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums Also, in case it is a hard drive close to failing, you should back up your important files right away after running the malware scan, NOT before because it may infect the USB storage device too.

Hey Guys I've had my Dell Studio Laptop Windows for around years and months Iv'e been having a fair few problems with it ever since I bought it This time it's been playing up mostly when Iv'e been facebook gaming within the last few weeks more often anyway Where it will Shutting-Down Freezing and Dell or Laptop Re-Starting Studio 1558 Randomly just decide to freeze and becomes un-responsive Dell Studio 1558 Laptop Freezing and Randomly Shutting-Down or Re-Starting where pressing even Ctrl Alt Dell Studio 1558 Laptop Freezing and Randomly Shutting-Down or Re-Starting Del doesn't work I'm forced to Dell Studio 1558 Laptop Freezing and Randomly Shutting-Down or Re-Starting hold down the power button to force a shut-down and then start it up again If my facebook game isn't open generally at the moment I don't tend to get problems Although prior to this over the last approx month my laptop was shutting down or restarting without warning Sometimes it will still do this after freezing it will just shut itself down and stay turned off until I power it back on or restart itself instead Twice within the last week or so it wasn't able to start up properly and attempted to do a 'system restore' but failed But after that it was able to start up again A few times when it shut down and I had to press the power button a few times because it kept powering down instantly each time I pressed the button I've had to send it away twice already once for a dead Hard Disk Drive needing replacing and the other time for the fan heat sink needing replacing Both times before I had trouble with this laptop randomly shutting down or restarting rarely freezing though When my HDD failed my computer was unusable and wouldn't start at all and when my fan heat sink was failing my laptop would be boiling hot to the touch and would often shutdown before even reaching the log-in screen and the CPU usage would be through the roof Both problems were fixed so I have both a new HDD and fan heat sink so my computer doesn't heat up and can turn on properly so these should no longer be a problem Any ideas what it could be this time Idea's on how to try and fix the problem myself or figure out what it is If you can help me thanks heaps

A:Dell Studio 1558 Laptop Freezing and Randomly Shutting-Down or Re-Starting

Hello lilkimmy2468

How many other programs/browser tabs do you have open when you are playing these Facebook games? It seems possible that you are trying to get your laptop to do too much. From what I can see the Dell Studio 1558 laptop comes with 4GB of memory, which may sounds a lot, but once you are running a few programs and resource heavy programs (especially on the memory such as Facebook games), it can slow down your laptop, possibly creating the issues you have.

If you are only running your browser with one tab open, you may have a memory issue, so you may have to run a memory test/diagnostic, depending on your answer to the above.

I will say that it sounds like your laptop needs some general care and attention, when was the last time you run a disk defrag or disk cleanup? How do you normally use your laptop, does it sit on a flat side where air can circulate easy? We may need to run some extra repairs/checks to make sure everything is working correctly, the last thing you need is to do a system restore but then find that fails for some reason, disastrous.

Hi I have an Asus U E laptop About a week ago it had the Cryptowall virus in it and of course all the information was encrypted so I dumped it I re-installed windows from the recovery drive on it From that point I went in and updated all the drivers installed what I needed to to run my car software but just before that it shut down once After it was all installed it kept shutting down roughly every - min I thought maybe due to heat right Tore the laptop down cleaned everything found out that the laptop was running normal temps just the fan is a little loose and its going to need a new one soon Put it all back together windows randomly Laptop install restarting keeps after Asus 7 and same issue Played with the drivers made sure everything was all up to date chkdsk wasn't coming up with anything It wouldn't enter the windows memory diagnostic still won't with new install lots of errors and warnings in the event viewer I just did another install of windows and its doing the same thing Roughly shutting off every min When I turn it back on it says Windows Error Recovery But in safe mode it seems to run a lot longer I'm still testing it right now with the new install but last time I went over hrs and it Asus Laptop keeps randomly restarting after windows 7 install didn't turn off When I went to install windows again I tried to use an install disk which that didn't work I also tryed to use my other computers recovery disk which of course that didn't work either When I tested the hard drive for failure it passed I've downloaded all the programs for crash reports but there is nothing I've disabled all the start up programs still turns off I'm at a loss and need some guidance Added note The computer stayed on perfectly before the install of windows after the virus Right after I reinstalled I have not been able to keep the computer on for over an hour on a normal boot Usually its - min for it to shut off and re-start again quot Windows did not shut down properly quot Thanks

A:Asus Laptop keeps randomly restarting after windows 7 install

New update. Registry files corrupted. Another restore. while restoring its doing the shut down errors. canceled the restore. Cannot boot in safe mode, cannot keep running long enough to finish the restore......AHHHH!

EDIT:crashed in restore-now I have a base windows version.....not many drivers at all. Going to see if it will do its random shutdown like this before I try to re-install(still re-starts). This was from a USB install that I finally got to work a tiny bit.

I recently reinstalled Windows, updated everything and today I started getting this BSOD that says something about "Page Fault in Nonpaged Area" or something along those lines. There's no rhyme or reason (that I can tell) so it's really aggravating.

I'm attaching the zip file that the instruction say you need (I followed option 2). Hopefully I did it right.

A:asus laptop randomly shuts down with a blue screen and error message

You'd best repost this issue in the BSOD section here. What you're experiencing is called Blue Screen Of Death, or BSOD. I have had the same issue before, I have a feeling it was to do with driver conflicts.

I have an ASUS U56E laptop that randomly reboots when running anything, minesweeper, spider solitare, IE explorer. No bluescreen appears, the screen goes black and the machine reboots. If you win a spider solitare game and leave the fireworks running in background it does not reboot, but if you leave the fireworks running for a while as soon as you kill the fireworks it shuts down immediately. I have run temperate checks, memory check, full disk scan, and reloaded the machine from initial disks. I even brought it to Best Buy and their geek squad told me they tested it thouroughly by running a video streamer on it and it didn't shut down after 4 hours so there is nothing wrong with it. I don't know where to go from here and appreciate any suggestions.

Hi everyone I've been struggling with freezing Randomly. Freezes no Events outlying 8.1 BSOD, NO Windows issues on my computer for the better part of a year I can't tell if it's a software or hardware related issue Processor Intel i - k GHz running at GHz RAM GB MHz WD TB Drive as Windows 8.1 Freezes Randomly. NO BSOD, no outlying Events primary My Windows desktop will freeze at random moments without a given notice There doesn't seem to be any type of event that triggers it more than others and no way that I've noticed to predict when it could happen I've gone as little as minutes running smoothly before it freezing to as long as days before it decides to freeze The freezes lock everything All hardware stops responding However typically I can still hear a bit of audio for a minute or so before that begins to hang as well but if there was a media player for example the seek bar will stop moving I have a Logitech G keyboard with backlighting When the computer freezes if I turn off the light of my keyboard it won't turn back on just furthering the idea that the hardware is locked I've attached the logs as I've been asked to do I can't tell if it's hardware as I've changed GFX cards from an older Nvidia GTX to an AMD R X That seemed to have helped with some issues but not all I recently did a fresh OS install hoping it would help but the problem has returned I'm wondering if it's a pattern based on some of the applications and drivers that I've installed or if it's really a hardware issue Maybe a failing harddrive ram or even my new GFX card I've also tried doing system maintenance correcting the NET files doing a DISM repair doing a SFC scannow and a few other fixes that are slipping my mind at the moment but did not work either Anyway I have no BSOD screen to go by and I've searched the Event Logs multiple times and found nothing of use Please if anyone can help me out here It'd be greatly appreciated Please let me know if more details are needed Thank you

I have a virus problem in my computer since it is shutting down randomly and reloading some web pages constantly on its own.
I have Norton 360 and Adawer SE personal in my computer but they dont detect anything.
Operating system is XP.
All help is appreciated!

A:Computer randomly shutting down randomly and constantly reloading some web pages

-------------------------------------------

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi all, I have just gotten a Asus P5N-E Sli mobo, installed a P4 socket 775 530 3.0Ghz, which according to the asus website is supported for this mobo. Also installed 2 GBs of ram which is recognized during POST, during POST it states the CPU correctly, amount of ram, etc., but at the bottom of the POST I get a warning that the CPU is not recognized and that I should update the BIOS to get the full power of the processor? Then it shuts down after a 30 seconds to a minute. If I go into the SETUP it will stay on for a minute then shut down. According to the BIOS it has the latest version, 1406? I am at a lose on what to do next! Help ;-)

A:Asus P5N-E SLI shutting down

It sounds like the bios settings for your memory and/or CPU are incorrect. If you are not running the bios defaults, do so. If you are running defaults, try increasing the memory voltage a bit... This may be an issue with the power supply too

I am using the program "Random Events Sound" to randomize my startup, shutdown, trash, etc. sounds. The program uses the windows list of sound events.

I want to ADD to that list to include the events of loading various programs.... like Internet Explorer for example. Can I do this?

There is an 'event' for "loading programs" but that seems the refer to ANY program, not specific ones.

Thanks

What are you trying to accomplish? Can you identify some specific issue you are having that might be directly associated with these event logs? BTW, the logs you posted in your description appear to just be informational logs.

I don t know if this would be the right section but it does have to do with a case of some sort I guess so this is where I am putting this thread We are starting a program in our school where we go around to different events and stream live It will be several times a week and all year long The computer we use will need to be powerful with many connection possibilities That is what brings me to this question A laptop is easy to transport It is made fairly tough and can be pretty fast if you are willing to put the money into it On the other hand you don t have a lot of input capabilities I was wondering if a desktop would be the best solution It is going to be faster than a laptop ex a desktop will cost about for the same Desktop laptop events for vs livestreaming speed and power is what I have found out So you can get a lot more for you money with a desktop Then you also get a multitude of connection possibilities with a desktop and it is so much more upgrade friendly than a laptop The problem with desktop is it s portability I don t really Desktop vs laptop for livestreaming events know what I am looking for Are there travel cases for desktop computers What do you suggest we use Does anyone have a link or something to lead me in the right direction Thanks nbsp

A:Desktop vs laptop for livestreaming events

Look around for some mini-ITX or HTPC cases, Lian Li and Silverstone both have decent selections. Obviously you'd need a monitor to transport around as well, so whether that's convenient is up to you.

Last summer I put together a system using an Asus Vintage V2-PH1 for a customer with a Pentium D 820, 80g SATA HD, 1G ram, on board graphics. Processor and ram are supposedly supported by this MB. This system is apparently shutting off during the middle of Instant Messenger sessions and occaisionally during web browsing. I don't believe it does this while using other installed software although I am not positive. I am not familiar with instant messenger at all so not sure what or if, this software has anything to do with the issue, but its a place to start. Can anyone think of anything else I might look for when I get this box back?

Thanks

hello everyone,

i need help please asap, my asus x553m series laptop does not shut down nor restarts. evertime i press the power button i alwayp displazs "shutting down" , i cant open its bios either.

please help

A:asus x553m not shutting down

tehcnically this is not a good thing to do; but have you tried doing a hard restart by holding down the power button? If you try that and that does not work; take the battery out and let it sit for about a minute or so; then put the battery back in. Doing that should reset it. Then try turning it back on and seeing if you can get into the bios and see whats going on from there. Give this a shot and see what happens.

I have tried many things, among which was uninstalling software, managing my startups, using CCleaner, but still my computer gets too hot and then shuts down. I need to find out what is causing this problem so that I can fix it, but I'm lost at this point.

I have an ASUS G60Vx notebook with Intel Core2 Duo CPU P7450 @2.13Ghz, 4GB memory, 64-bit operating system running Windows7 Home Premium.

If you need me to get any more information for you, please give me step-by-step instructions and please only give me one action to do at a time, as I'm severely ADD and will lose track of what I'm doing.

J

A:ASUS G60Vx -- getting too hot and shutting down

Hi,

Have you tried blowing compressed air through the vents near your fan. You may be surprised how much dust comes out of your laptop. Remember to always run a laptop on something hard so that it can breathe. A laptop that is running on a soft surface can cause it to overheat.

Hope this helps

Hey all I've been getting the strangest kind of crashes I've seen on a pc so far They can happen pretty much at any time from the BIOS screen to playing a game What happens is the shutting Randomly down computer will completely freeze including sound Randomly shutting down pointer keyboard everything and the only thing to do is restart Or the Randomly shutting down computer will just simply shut down not as in a full shut down cycle but it will just power down out of nowhere I've had this setup the one in my profile for about months now started using Win about months ago and these problems just started happening about a week or ago There is no recently installed software I just did a fresh install of Win bit and the problem is still there My first idea was that this was a hardware issue but there really arent that many components that can literally just shutdown the computer like that other than the PSU and that is brand new because of this problem my old psu unit was no longer to power the system during boot because of so many restarts This happens with both Win bit and bit so that rules out the OS kind of because the system runs perfectly on Ubuntu I really dont know what the problem is at one point I thought it might be the video cards but I've tested them both separately and they run just fine up until I start loading stuff up like a game or even something like youtube is enough to make it crash But the strange thing there is that it will also crash while idle after a while and even while at the BIOS screen it will power down Ive ran memory tests and disk checks and it all seems to be fine The PSU is new and more powerful than the old one and the video cards appear to be in order Please help Thanks

Try these free stress tests:

Try this free video stress test: FurMark: Graphics Card Stability and Stress Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net

Quote:
FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

Try this free stress test: Free Software - GIMPS

Quote:
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead.
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

So for the past few weeks my PC has been randomly shutting down. Sometimes it'll happen very quickly after the PC turns on. Other times it can go for hours without it happening.

The PC will just shut down without warning. No blue screen. No abnormal sounds coming from the tower. It seems to just be a hard shutdown. The system doesnt try to restart either.

It doesn't seem to be a heat problem. I thought maybe the power supply would be the issue. I replaced the power supply and even added a UPS for my system, I'm still getting the same issue.

I ran windows' memory diagnostic and hard drive test and found no issues.

I recently formatted and reinstalled windows and I'm still getting the same problem.

Hey.
Today my pc has randomly shutted itself down 4times. First 2 happened when I was on YouTube, and the last 2 when playing, MineCraft and Dungeon Defenders!
Anyway, had this for ages and no problems. Today the crashing started, it says nothing. It just shuts itself down. I tried looking at Windows Logs but found nothing.

Specs:

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 425 Processor
Motherboard: PEGATRON CORPORATION - VIOLET6
RAM: 6GB.

It MIGHT be because of overheating. Its 10+ hours a day on and its summer and freaking hot, I don't know

A:PC Randomly shutting down.

It sounds like an overheating issue with either the CPU or GPU, more likely the CPU. What software do you have to monitor your CPU and GPU temps? The CPU is designed to shut itself off when it becomes to hot to protect itself from overheating. Monitor your temps while you have a load on it. It could be that the heatsink/fan is loose or not working properly, dust build up on the fins causing lag and heat build up. There is not enough airflow in the case itself and the list just goes on.

A:PC shutting down randomly

It sounds (from what you've described) like you have a power supply problem.

The first thing I would do is to open the case and check every single power supply connector and make sure that they are properly plugged in and secure.

The second thing I would do is to find/beg/borrow/steal another power supply and try it in your PC to rule out the power supply.

Try these things and report back.

I am upgrading/building a new pc using ECS KM400-M2 Motherboard and XP 2800+ CPU. The pc can be started up however it would be shut down by itself randomly with in 1 second to 10 minutes.

A posting below metioned a similar problem but I can't figure out any solutions from the responses, which suggested that the reason could be something with the power unit.

My questions are:
1. I am using an ATX case. Is that a problem? because there is not a case fan on it?
2. The cpu frequency is set to 133M Hz, should I change it?
3. Should I do anything to the memory? I just plug the memory into the slot. The memory is DDR 333Mhz.
4. Any other ideas?

pls pls help!

Happy New Year!

A:HELP pls! new pc shutting down randomly....

Do you know what power supply the machine has? (brand, wattage, amperage per voltage rail) Sometimes if the powersupply is underpowered, or if your psu has malfunctioned, the pc will just reboot randomly.

Or it could be overheating as, do you have any way to monitor your cpu temperature?

I built a custom pc about a year ago. Recently it has been acting up, shutting off randomly. I thought maybe it was the fan and replaced the fan. This was futile i do not know what it could be. I thought maybe it could be that the coprocessor drive isnt installed do you think thats it? anyway someone please help me..

A:Help, pc keeps randomly shutting down.

wtf-pc,
Welcome to SF. Please fill out the system specs completely as we aren't mind readers. Can you think of when this shut down began and if anything was added, downloaded, updated, installed? Do you keep this rig on a lot of the time, when was the last time you opened it up for a deep clean. Cleaning needs to be done every six months minimally and more if you have pets, heavy dust, or if the system sits directly on the floor or carpet.

for around a year now my PC has been randomy turning off anytime I play games. It happens during any games, it sometimes even happens in online flash games. It started a while ago when after coming back from holiday the wouldn't turn on properly. I turned it on, and all the lights came on inside tower, but the monitor got no connection, and it kept making a clicking noise.
After a while it started coming on then going off again after a few minutes until it eventually it got back to semi normality (where it is now). This is a really annoying problem and I would appreciate any help.

A:PC randomly shutting itself down

Since this problem occurs under any format--Flash or otherwise--it makes me think that it may be a hardware problem rather than a software problem. My first guess, and I do mean guess, is the graphics card, or lack of one.

If you have a graphics card, take it out. Then go into the BIOS and switch the graphics from the graphics card to on-board graphics. Try out the computer to see if things work even a little better. What we're doing is ruling out if the problem is with the graphics card.

If you don't have a graphics card, it's possible that the computer's on-board graphics can't handle all that math-intensive stuff that games have.

But don't impulsively go out and buy a new graphics card! Ruling things out and testing before you spend any money is the way to go. For instance, what if the power supply is on the outs, or maybe one of the memory sticks is faulty?

But for now, I'd test the graphics card first.

Last night my PC started randomly shutting down. I an trying to type this fast as I dont know how long it has to stay on.

Sometimes its on for 15 minutes, sometimes 5.

I built the PC last year - specs are above in profile.

Opened the side of the case, its very cool in there. Lots of fans and all of them are working, checked CPU, video fans too and they are all running.

When it shuts down, there is no error msg or anything, it just shuts completely off as if they power went out.

I checked all cables, they are secure and look good.

Where do I go from here? I dont have an extra PSU to try out... so its not like I can even check that easily with another PSU.

How would you go about diagnosing the problem?

Thank You

Any ideas? The whole point in an ultrabook is to be able to close it and open it when you need to.

My Windows 7 Ultimate x64,always shuts down I scanned my computer using AVG TuneUp and AVG AntiVirus to check if there are any files that are messing with my computer but nothing was discovered.I didn't download anything , and it still crashes there are no blue screen left, that's why I didn't post this on the BSOD thread. Aid?

A:Windows randomly shutting down.

What I would do if it was my computer is remove AVG TuneUp program.
Windows 7 doesn't want or need a tuneup program.

Then I would try this tutorial by Brink.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If the problem was still there I would do a restore point before the problem happened.

System Restore

Then I would verify that AVG TuneUp was still gone.

After logging in to Vista I get an error message that reads:

"Windows has had a critical error, and will shutdown in 1 minute. Please save all of your work"

It has happened while connected and disconnected to the internet, after varying intervals of time (as soon as in seconds, or could run seemingly 'stable' for hours), and while running different programs (I can't narrow down exactly which program may or may not be causing the error/corruption...but so far has only happened while booted into normal mode. I'm currently monitoring it in safe mode to see if the error happens again.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Blake

A:Vista Randomly Shutting Down

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming process, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

A:New computer Shutting down Randomly

Hi
My friend was experiencing a similar problem and it turned out to be the CPU fan not being firmly attached.

I think you're on the right lines as regards troubleshooting. Physically check ALL connections are seated correctly. Remove CMOS battery to reset settings.

Once battery back in and it reboots make sure it has lost the date and time to confirm reset.

Enter BIOS setup screen (if you can get this far) and look for Hardware Monitor or similar. Keep an eye on the CPU temp. It should remain fairly constant as not under load.

In my experience it is usually but not always related to either CPU temperature or the PSU being faulty. Over the years I have had more faulty PSUs than an other component.

Hi. . .

Please click on the Live SysInternals AutoRuns link below in my sig area (3rd row - 1st). Save it to desktop. Then download the attached zip file and extract the lone batch file to your desktop.

Go to your desktop, right-click on the batch file and select run as administrator. You will see the black "DOS" screen appear and scroll followed by the green status bar. It will take several minutes to run. It will copy any mini kernel dump files, dump the app and system logs, run AutoRuns, msinfo32 and dxdiag. Please not that you will see the AutoRuns screen appear - it is just scanning and will be anout a minute (check status on bottom-left) - then it will disappear indicating the batch job is finished.

The output will be in a new folder found within your documents folder named TSF_Vista_Support.

It is imperative that you download AutoRuns to your desktop 1st - or the job will fail.

Zip the contents of the new folder up and attach to your next post.

Any ? - please let me know.

Hi guys I decided to build my own computer randomly off New shutting self-build to save money Bad idea it seems Problems out of the box Initially it would not turn on due to USB OVERCURRENT I solved that with some electrical tape on the bottom of the USB pins on the motherboard it was shorting as far as I know Got everything up and running then it New self-build shutting off randomly crashed again Black screen Everything off Like someone pulled the plug I thought it was the mobo shorting again as I had read on other forums so I took it out and coated the case with duct tape to prevent shorting The supplied screws did not fit so well so I only have two holding it in at the moment - Do all screws need to be in for proper grounding Right now I m thinking it is CPU over heating as it turns off after a while and then keeps turning off I ve been monitoring the temperature as of late and it idles around C spiking up to about C when ripping a CD I removed the heatsink and cleaned off the stock thermal gel and replaced it with ArticSilver I thought this solved the problem until it crashed again So far I ve had luck with two things Leaving the case open and having a big fan blow in temperature of CPU still goes up to C though when busy and the second taking the motherboard out and setting it on a piece of wood I haven t had the computer crash as of yet using one of these two methods not both at once however I ll continue monitoring this evening to see if it crashes I m really not too sure what to do whether its CPU over heating or the Mobo isn t being grounded now or what I ve been fiddling with the damn thing all weekend What saved me a couple hundred bucks cost me too many hours Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated nbsp

A:New self-build shutting off randomly

u don't need to duct tape anything when building a computer
all the risers need to be screwed into the ultra case only where your motherboard needs to be screwed down (9 in your case)
as far as the shutting down pay attention to the heatsink/fan installation

I seen on some other forums that it may be a fan and cooling issue, but I have no idea if this picture I took shows if my computer is overheating or if it is not overheating. The issue usually happens when I am playing SWTOR, this issue is getting kinda bad and would like to fix it before some serious damage happens.

A:Computer shutting down randomly

If SpeedFan is giving you accurate readings, then I can safely say that none of these temperatures are anywhere close to being too high.

What does your system consist of? Did you build it, or is it a pre-built? It's good to know as much as possible about the hardware.

For a while now, I have had issues with my computer randomly turning off. After it turns itself off, I often have to perform a hard reset before I can boot it back up. My first thought was that it might be overheating. But after monitoring the temperatures, everything seems ok in that department. The fact that my pc is requiring a hard reset after shutting down is throwing me off a bit. Does anybody have any ideas about what might be causing this particular issue?

First of all, no one knows what you are working on. Post your exact system specs; ie make and model of mb, exact ram installed, brand and wattage of pw supply, etc, etc. If this is a big box system ie dell, hp, whatever, then post the exact make and model#.

A:My Computer is shutting down randomly HELP ME

My first knee-jerk reaction is cooling. Do you have anything overclocked? Good air flow? My second guess would be a failing psu perhaps. That is wierd how it just clicks off. Any beeps? When it boots back up does it try to go into safe mode or does it boot normally? Does it post okay, meaning it doesn't detect anything strange? Try booting in safe mode and see if a driver is causing the issue although this doesn't seem like a driver issue at all.

Really, it sounds like overheating, failing psu or bad mobo or bad memory. I guess you can discount the bad memory since you already swapped it. I wish I could help more. Good luck.

Hey all So I've shutting Computer down randomly had my PC for a couple years now but in the past - months maybe longer I can't remember but definitely past - months it's had this nasty habit of literally just turning itself off I could be playing a game watching YouTube browsing or even just idle on the desktop with nothing running apart from background processes It'll shut off It doesn't discriminate It doesn't happen all the time though Sometimes it won't do it sometimes it'll do it or times in a row about minutes in between shut downs But after a few shut downs it'll sort itself out and won't turn off on its own again So I thought initially that it might be something wrong with my OS or a virus or so I've just reformatted Computer randomly shutting down But as I was transferring my files back to my main drive boom it did it again I've pulled my computer tower away from any blockages it is under my desk but it has Computer randomly shutting down about quot at least on each side for air flow But that hasn't helped anything I'm now coming to the conclusion that it's either PSU related maybe the PSU is faulty and not supplying a steady voltage or it's heat related I don't have any software to monitor those readings though It's worth adding that when I reformatted I made an internal partition using Win s disk management system which I put my backups on I then reformatted C and reinstalled there I then copied my backups off of my temp partition and then expanded C back to its full size Any help would be greatly appreciated I think I've mentioned everything I think is relevant Specs Win Enterprise x AMD FX- octocore processor GHz gb DDR RAM DirectX NVidia GeForce GTX ti gb TB HDD SATA Standard in case fan cooling This was a prebuilt purchase from a website so they did the compatibility checks etc I've never had an issue with it until now

Hello....

i just got my new custom build pc and everything looked fine until it started to shut down like the power just went out randomly and when i turn it on it gives me to run it on safe mode or normally, some times it shut down will starting the pc

i tried to change the Place of the power cord and take off my storage hardware but still keeps crashing with out the blue screen

some times it run fine for hours

note that this is a completely new pc and i can't buy things

and some times i have to hit the PSU to start the pc
but it doesn't happen in safe mode

so you think its not the psu fault but the in pc files?

A:pc keep shutting down randomly without reason

Hi,

As you mentioned that you have to hit the PSU, I guess issue could be with the PSU. If you have a spare one try with that.
also, make sure all the connections inside the cabinet are properly seated. No loose cables. Unplug the cables and plug them back tightly. Try to re seat the RAM sticks as well. Make sure the power cord coming from PSU to Motherboard is properly plugged in.

Keep us posted.

A:thecomputer is just randomly shutting off

I would look for possible overheating issues first off. Shutdowns (as opposed to reboots) are usually initiated at the motherboard level in response to a critical hardware problem.

Unfortunately heat monitoring utilities do not work on Dell Desktops so far as I've seen. If it's a notebook, you can use Speedfan:

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

The power supply is another suspect.

You can also test the ram:

My computer has been shutting down randomly at least 4x a day for about 2 weeks. Any advice?

A:Computer shutting down randomly

1) Open up the case and blow out the dust using compressed air. If that's not the cause,

2) It could be the power supply

3) It could be ram - To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

4) Or it could be something else.

My computer will be running fine and then it will cut off. It has done this over and over. Do you think that this an issue with the power supply? The error reads: Shut down due to environmental Temperature and Have PC Serviced immediately.

A:My computer is randomly shutting down

You are over heating. Your best bet would be to open the case if this is a desktop and get a can of air and blow the dust from your fans and cpu and see if this helps. You may even need to replace the cpu thermal paste.

I've tried to run scans to no avail as the system would just power off in the middle of scan.

It shuts down at random times w/ no pattern. I've elimated it being power source problems.

It deleted four files: autorun.inf, C:\resycled, D:\resycled, d:\resyceled\boot.com and c:\users...\appdata\roaming\inst.exe

I'm bout to run malwarebytes..

CAN SOMEONE LOOK AT MY COMBOFIX LOG AND TELL ME WHAT'S WHAT AND IF I NEED TO MANUALLY RID MY MACHINE OF FILES LISTED THERE.

for the past couple of weeks my computer has been shutting down randomly.

I'm running XP and right before the computer shuts down, the tower will make a small clicking sound, the screen screen/mouse freezes and the taskbar reverts to a windows 98 format (yellow squares for the different windows, different font).

It will then boot as normal.

one funny thing that I've noticed is that even though I am running firefox, in the task manager processes internet explorer will be in the top 2/3 processes taking up the most memory.
I've run adaware, spybot search and destroy and hijackthis.

any help/ideas are appreciated.
