Preferred Solution: My Admin user name is corrupted so now PC has NO admin privileges

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: My Admin user name is corrupted so now PC has NO admin privileges

See Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable about enabling the built-in admin account. Once you get it set up I would take a system image with third party software (aomei, eg) so you have a fallback.

I bought a R9 270X by XFX. My current specs are:

CPU: AMD A10 7800k (Standard Clock Speeds, Graphics Disabled)
RAM: 4GB (2 sticks, both working)
Motherboard: FM2, Gigabyte
PSU: 500 watt 80+ Cert Silver
HDD: 500GB WD Blue

So the issue is that the R9 card consistenly crashes out of all games no matter if I uninstall the drivers or reinstall them. I have tried removing the drivers through catalyst control center and through application based tools (DisplayDriverUninstaller). Once I uninstall and reinstall, it works, until the computer is restarted and then rinse and repeat.

Is this the card saying it is dying? If so it is a weird way of graphics card dying.

I am playing around with Server 2012. If I want to have a laptop configured for "at office use" with option to go on site, what would be the best way to do that in order to retain access to shared locations on server that is "at office"?

Should I create a standard windows account unrelated to my domain controller, and have them VPN regardless if they are in office or on site? Or is there a way to have a laptop configured for domain use, where it will still be functional (local computer use) on site outside of the office, even without internet connection (I know you can's VPN without it).

A:Best way to set up local and remote user with Server 2012

Well this is kind of interesting. You can in fact use a domain laptop away from the local network as long as you have logged into int once on the domain so it can cache your password for future log ins. Now comes to the more difficult part of your question's. Accessing files remotely while not online, you can set up what is called offline files. Offline files will give you acess to your files away from domain network. So if you choose to do offline files any changes made to the file while away from the domain controller where you shares are set up will have to be synced once back on the domain network. So if you make changes to lets say docA while off domain network, once you get back to domain network you will have to sync offline files to the server to update any changes you have made. This set up would not require offsite network but can bring problems when syncing once you reconnect on domain. But now lets say you have the same shares and now you have multiple individials with the same access to the shares. Say you make changes to docA and the other person makes changes to docA while offiste. Once you both reconnect and sync to server you could have issues with data such as duplicate information or doc merging. VPN would be the best option for sure....

Hi guys, I'm not good in english but I hope u will understand all.

Few weeks ago, my computer monitor suddenly get 1024x768 (or something like that) resolution, and I can't set better, because this is my max resolution. Before this situation I had 1920x1080 resolution. I know I can now only set resolution of my video card. I searched for reasons, and this must be corrupted EDID, but I can't find someone with this damn monitor. I also tryed install many different versions of video driver and use few different cables, but problem is still alive.

If u have this monitor, I wan't to get copy of your EDID, or if you have other idea, I can do whatever u write

I have joined a computer (PC1) to a domain control server (2008), and user able to login using their domain user account - although recently I have found out that even though the computer (PC1) do not connect to a server, user still able to access using their domain account.
Is there a way for me to restrict domain account user from accessing the computer (PC1) if they are disconnected from server?
Hope my explanation make sense to you guyz.

Thank in advance

A:Prevening domain user from accessing Computer

Lots to be considered. Joining a domain is intended to give the company admin configuration control of all the company users.
This is normal, expected and even proper for the company to do this.

restrict domain account userClick to expand...

hmm; only the company admin should be able to do this and almost always it is done using some scripts, NOT by loggin into your PC. So - - who is accessing your PC remotely, the admin - - how do you know this occurs?

PCs joined to a domain usually get a replacement for PC Login - - the network form and that creates a link to the domain controller.

I finally found out why my wireless keyboard didn't work as I mentioned in another thread several months back.
Evidently the USB wifi thingy was in a USB port that didn't work. When I was going thru this thread
I removed it thinking it might be the unknown device.
Anyhow, I've been trying to find the manual for my wireless KB & can't find it.

I experienced a similar problem when I was trying to network my 8.1 machine the host network. As you say the host PC can see and connect to all of the machines, but not the other way around. Not sure if it is the same in your situation but I found that Microsoft's idea of network sharing on the Windows 8 class of OS differs greatly from previous OS's in that you can connect to it from an external host, but when trying to do the other way around it doesn't "see" the PC in question due to differing network sharing protocols included in the OS.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong, I am speaking only from what happened with my network.

If I remove the hard drive and put it in a USB housing, would I be able to access the info stored under the guest account without any problems?

Hi Friends ... I have this laptop that has been given to me by my company and the USB ports have been blocked in manner such that I can copy stuff from my USB drive on to the machine but cannot copy in the reverse direction, ie. from the hard drive to the USB. A:My Mac corrupted

If Ubuntu can see them then there is hope

Once you have the Ubuntu desktop and the Mac disk mounted, you need another place to copy the files, so figure that out and mount that device too.

Get a Terminal window - - (yes, we'll fix the perms with a command line operation)

In the Terminal window, issue ls -lF (that's lower case 'ell', UC F) and you will see details of the current directory, eg:

$ ls -l
total 0
drwxr-xr-x+ 1 Jeff Users 0 May 22 07:44 _test2/
-rw-r--r-- 1 Jeff Users 0 May 22 07:43 bar
-rw-r--r-- 1 Jeff Users 0 May 22 07:43 foo
-rw-r--r-- 1 Jeff Users 0 May 22 07:43 zed

the 3rd column is the OWNER and the 4th is the GROUP.
the 1st column is the permissions for the owner, group and everyone.

To traverse the sub directories (shown like line1 with the trailing / ), the perms must
have the x for all three eg drwxr-xr-x

Ubuntu mounts devices - -
There are broadly two approaches -

Per-user mounting (usually under /media)
Systemwide mounting (anywhere, often under /mnt)
You will need to have root perms, so rlogin root or use su root and give the password.

So use the cd command to put the current directory on the Mac device root and use
ls -lF to see the user, group being used. As long as every directory shows up like drwxr-xr-x
then you need only to change either the owner or the group.

the command you need to change the owner is:
Usage: chown [OPTION]... [OWNER][:[GROUP]] FILE...
and the OPTIONs you need are -hR and the owner would be your Ubuntu login, eg
chown -hR Jeff .
there's a trailing space and period after Jeff (that's my Linux login - - use yours).

when the command completes, use ls -lF to verify it's correct and then terminate your rlogin or su shell.

With the owner set, you can now use the Linux copy command (cp) or go back to the GUI desktop to manage the Mac file extractions.

In our network we have many remote sites. We are currently all WinXP Pro but are starting to transition to Windows 7 (64-bit) when we cycle PCs out.

We have been using RealVNC for years instead of RDP because RealVNC allows shared control of the PC between you and the local user (ie: "Show me what you are talking about"). I've tried Tight (which leaves lots remnants after uninstalling), Real (simply does not work unless you buy the Enterprise version, for ~800 computers that just isn't going to work) and Ultra (works, but randomly resets its options and closes down once you log out of a profile).

Is there a way to allow shared control during RDP? If not, is there another VNC-ish program I can try (freeware) that's as reliable as RealVNC has been under XP?

use your browser to reconfig the router - - use the IP address as a URL

the Users Guide is here

Option one would be to DISABLE the radio - - read thru to find that

Option two would be to use WiFi Mac Filtering; -- pg 14
This option will allows ONLY defined systems access, so set a dummy, like the MAC
address of your wired NIC

Before you quit, DISABLE remote management on port 8080
and CHANGE that admin password

It's possible that the group policy is keeping the regular users from doing things like log off, or shutdown. You may want to check what the settings are or put all those users into a single group and give them the proper permissions to do whatever you want.

Ok so I work in a small office and I have a networked printer that takes user numbers for passwords to print. This way we can keep track of print jobs and charge the employees accordingly. This user # is setup thru printer preferences. Normally only one user # is required for each computer as each employee has their own computer. Well there are two open computers at my office that anyone can use, these two have their own user #'s.

What i'd like to do is set it up so these open computers prompt for a user number before being able to print instead of having a user # saved under the preferences. Is this possible?

Thank for any help regarding this situation.

I'm trying to print out some pictures on my HP printer using some pictures on a USB. I find some pictures but others are not shown on the display. When I click on the print-button on a "corrupted photo" it displays "Photo is corrupted and can not be printed" and the print-papper is given back empty.

Only some pictures are shown. I've tried changing the size of the pictures without any luck. I've checked on the HP website and on the manual without an answer.

What should I do? Really need replies soon. Thanks..

Sounds as if you had photos on a Flash drive, and the flash drive is damaged or corrupted.... If so, you might not be able to fix the problem.
Check on the HP website to see if they still have a trouble shooter for damaged images. Or take a look at programs such as Adobe Elements. Picasa,,,,,, GIMP (my favorite),,, and We have used all of these at one time or another and all are good for certain things. GIMP requires some study but is good after you learn.

I have an hp mini 1000 netbook with the admin passwords in the bios and win xp. It was my cousins who is no longer with us, so my aunt gave it to me. Noone knows the passwords. How can I bypass them or override them? I can get in as a guest but it is too limited. What are my best options?

A:HP Mini admin password unknown

You need to talk to HP, after changing the registered ownership, and may need a document about the fate of the previous owner. You may have to send it to a certified HP service center with a formal notice of change of ownership included.
As for TechSpot, there is a policy to not provide assistance with passwords.
What you want to do is usually very difficult in the best of circumstances.

What software to use, user friendly. Take *.avi movie covert and burn it so it will play on a dvd with a splash screen (menu) title to play movie and title(2) to include a small video clip of myself including a a message.

Was trying to use DeVeDe but I am having trouble with title 2 being authoritative with my video and both titles go straight to the movie. DeveDe is for Ubuntu but let me know of software for ubuntu or windows xp

Rather use a windows xp app anyways and I am sure, much more. ubuntu machine not as powerful for decoding videos, or this devede program, audio came out of sync and still had the title allocation issue. I really want to get my video message in the dvd menu.

My Keyboard is malfunctioning, as it is typing random stuff and doing random things. Not like a backdoor. It goes like "eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwxxxxxffffggggghhhhh" it somtimes backspaces and does random inputs. I don't know what's going on and I hope someone here can help me solve this problem.

*Note I think it's a problem within the computer because the keys are not sticky and I can still type but not with all the kets.*

A:Help! Keyboard Inputting into Laptop without User!

laptop keyboards are delicate at the best of times, any liquid spilt into it will dry and cause this issue,

you can use an external keyboard and see if it does this, you will have to remove the keyboard from the laptop, this is usually done by removing some screws and then undoing the ribbon connector from the board, or by unclipping the keyboard from the housing and disconnecting the ribbon cable.

keyboard go for about 15 on ebay dependant on who is selling it, dont try and repair it you will be wasting your time.

Probably your notebook's keyboard shorted out when you spilled water on it.

I would advise you to leave your notebook alone for few days to dry out completely and see if the shorting sorts itself out. Otherwise, you may end up having to replace the keyboard; for which you'll be better off consulting an technician.

A:Intel to AMD: Harddrives Corrupted?

What i could understand from your post is, you tried to boot from your old XP installation (which was obviously done on your older cpu/motherboard etc.). That may work but I don't like it frankly, changing a motherboard is very radical step.

However you can try these steps and see if they help:

1. Get your Windows XP Installation CD and boot from it.
2. It will start running Windows XP Setup
3. Get to screen where it dislays Setting up Windows XP, Repair Windows XP Installation. Choose Repair Option here.
4. It will then show you the hdd partition where your XP installation shoiuld be, select it, and press R.

You may get asked for Windows XP CD Key though.

OK, my subject line might sound cryptic! Here is my set up: first router (main) is connected to the cable modem and provides std addresses as (base is etc. I have a second router (same brand) as a gateway connected to my main. This second router base address is and all that are connected to this one have manually provided IP addresses (such as, etc). The main one provides WIFI access as for the second one do not.

Now my question: from my laptop who uses the WIFI network, how can I reach or connect to the other network (the one that is managed with the router with the address? The purpose? I would like to access the computer connected to it as if they were part of the WIFIed network. And be able to access the router management page. Any clue?

A:Cascading routers - how to access admin features from one to the other?

first some basics;

examine the router (the box itself). everything attached to a LAN slot will default to
routing upwards using the WAN slot -- that's a big clue as to what the routing tables looks like.

second; to manage the configuration of a specific router:
a) WIRE a system directly to it
b) login to the router config page using the current router's ip-address

if your network is

then a system attached to routerX will route upward to router(X-1) and NOT downward to router(X+1)

if you wish to have ALL systems (wired and wireless) see and share with each other, then you have too many distinct address.
Leave router#1 as is. disconnect router#2 from #1 and wire router#1 to a LAN port on router#2, leaving its WAN port empty. Log into router#2 and disable DHCP.

Now do the same for the wire from #2-->#3 and disable#3 DHCP.

All systems (wired or WiFi) will get ip-assignments from router#1 and will be able to
ping and share files.

Lately though, it's become impossible to access the files on the drive and sometimes when i plug it in Windows prompts me to fix it. I do all the steps and all the variations of that and it eventually lets me into the drive, but a click or highlight of the documents results in Windows not responding and a necessary CAD.

I'm not in the least bit bothered about saving the files on the drive, but i would like to use the thing again. Is it saveable?

Run chkdsk on the drive. The link i provided is ok even if you run Vista (vs. XP).

1. Run chkdsk /r AND be sure to also include the volume drive letter (or it defaults to check your C: drive)
2. Understand chkdsk can take a loooong time to run (especially if it's a large hard drive). Even if it looks like your screen is hanging.. wait at least 30+ minutes before deciding the screen might not be updating any longer (if it really does hang)

What might cause this? I'm struggling to troubleshoot it.

A:User cannot logon wirelessly

You must be in a Domain/Networked login environment as WiFi vs wired networking is not germane to user login otherwise.

I think you're in a catch-22; you need the network to login but need login to access the network.

Fix the GPO policy for WiFi users to allow local login to the machine.
This will give the ability to then MAP drives to the infrastructure using the WiFi connection.

Most of the time things work fine, but occasionally we will turn on power, only to find that the data on the drive (our executable, log files) has been corrupted. Reformatting and reloading the stick straighten things right out, but sooner or later it happens again.

My main theory is that an open log file might be corrupted if power is removed during a write, but we are seeing errors in many random files. Naturally, the worst is when the executable is corrupted, but this is especially puzzling because the sector that contains the executable is write protected.

Thanks for any info

I've searched around the forums and tried a couple of the programs.

What I've done. Original computer and my laptop does not recognize HD. Checked it over on Computer manager and says drive is not initialized.

I connected the Maxtor 3200 HD to another comp and the drive shows up on Explorer but it says "Disc structure is corrupted and unreadable". On the computer manager it says its "healthy(active)".

I've checked it over with VirtualLab Data Recovery and it encountered errors on certain sectors. "request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error."

Am I even using the right programs to check this over or is this HD gone? Any other ways to try to fix this or recover the files?
Are there services to send the HD to recover the files?

Thanks in advance for any advice/input.

Cannot Login to Netgear DG834G router wirelessly from Dell Laptop

Hi heres hoping you can help me.

I have a wireless connection through a Netgear DG834G from a Dell M6300 running Windows XP which is working fine with respect to accessing the internet..

I also have a desktop (wired to the router) which is also running fine.

The problem is that I cannot log into the router wirelessly as Admin on
I can login to the router as Admin from the wired PC, but not the laptop !!
I get to the login screen to input password but when pressing enter the login box just re-appears with the password field blank again.
I know the password entered is correct and accurate as it works from the wired desktop

(note: I have changed my laptop recently from HP to Dell, I was able to access the router wirelessly as Admin to perform maintenance with the HP model)

Any ideas ?

A:Cannot connect to wireless router as admin wirelessly

Are all the settings correct for the wireless laptop.
encryption method WEP, WPA, WPA2

Does the router even see this new laptop?
Do you still have the older laptop?
Check to see if the DELL firewall is disabled under Windows, make sure it off.
Try opening up a session: ping
Does the laptop get IP by DHCP,

ipconfig /release wait.... ipconfig /renew wait... try it again does work then
try static IP then do ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns

If all still doesn't work try..
re-joining the wireless router
disconnect using the wireless in range method on the laptop
reconnect but remove the password then re-do it then click on connect see if the wireless laptop can connect.
If it does reboot the laptop and login with your login ID password
Now open the browser and see if you can get into your router
Make sure you do not have any spyware or popup blocker active..

Computer- Dell Inspiron 8100
Problem- Admin Bios Password

I have tried numoerous things, and in the end seems eeprom is only way to reset this.

I looked and looked, it says under motherboard, yet I never found a "24OC" 4 legged chip on the board to reset.

This cpu is 7 yrs old.

So far no luck fixing this one or my Toshiba and have both been reduced to eeprom reset as only viable option.

Hello all hardware wizards, sorry to take your precious time .

I just purchased HP NC8230 laptop from eBay. It's really great laptop. The laptop not require boot password and so it reaches to windows XP, but unfortunately I discovered that its bios is admin protected, therefore I can't access bios and make any modification. I know that these business laptops have extra bios protection and therefore it's not so easy task to reset their password.

Can someone, that have experience with this kind of laptops, help me? It would be very appreciated.

Hi guys,
i would like your opinions on which brand of routers do you think is the best and most user-friendly to use. By user-friendly i mean that it is easy to configure and there are sufficient step-by-step instructions on the manual to help you set up a successful connection.

I have been using a Planet XRT-401C and i highly advise you NOT to use it. There's simply insufficient instructions given on the manual on how to configure it. I also keep having connection issues (limited connectivity) when connecting 2 of my PCs using this router.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

A:The best and most user-friendly router to use?

Cisco is the best, but expensive
Netgear is very easy.
LinkSys and DLink are relatively easy and offer more downloads and install help online than most others.
Consider the LinkSys WRT330N, or the DLink Router which includes wireless, which is a dream to setup.

Did you remove the new USB drive properly after copying the files? Using the "safely remove hardware" feature? If you unplug the drive while copying files or somethimes even when the copy dialog has closed, you will corrupt data.

A:Lost Admin Password in IRAQ help Dell6400 Inspiron

I'm assuming this is a windows password we're talking about here, and that you're running XP. If it is asking you for a BIOS password (black screen, white text), then you're probably screwed, unless there is a BIOS reset jumper within easy reach. If not, have fun opening the entire laptop to find it.

If it gets to windows and wants a password, try this:

grab either active password changer (

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (

Follow the instructions closely and there's a good chance one of the two will work.

Hi Guys this Linux USB drive by corrupted Xp is Linux USB drive corrupted by Xp my first post I have a Linux USB drive corrupted by Xp pvr that uses Linux It records in ts files This pvr personnel video recorder uses external USB hard drives that must be previously formatted into Fat and insure that the drive never reaches a sleep mode After that the firmware on the pvr does a quick format Many users report that after they connect the external USB drive to their XP computer to retrieve or copy the ts files then when they reconnect that Linux USB drive corrupted by Xp external drive to the pvr the drive is corrupted After that the pvr will only recognize the drives size or serial number but absolutely refuses to see the any ts files Then they are forced to write zeros with Seagate in the case of FREEAGENT PRO utilities This causes them to loose all the previous recorded movies It makes me very apprehensive to connect my freeagent gig to Xp It appears that Xp adds a flag or bit to the drive rendering it unreadable by the Linux OS of the pvr I wonder if there is a way to clone the external Linux drive fat directly to another USB drive so that I can manipulate or watch the drive on an Xp machine without altering the original drive I only use Xp Any advice is extremely appreciated nbsp

A:Linux USB drive corrupted by Xp

Well, I know nothing about video cameras and stuff, but I know my computers.

It is easy to clone a drive (usb/external/whatever). But you obviously would have to connect it to a computer to do that

So if just connecting it to an XP machine, ruins it, then that is out of the question. So your only option, would be to find someone with a Linux machine, and ask them to clone it for you.

There are other possibilities though I suppose. First off, it may be possible that connecting the drive to an XP machine is ok... and the problem only occurs when the data is read off or something... So basically, you would have to somehow find out, exactly what causes the drive's formatting to be screwed up.

The only other possibility I can think of, is that you make yourself a Linux partition on your computer. Am I right that Linux is free? If so, all you need is a hard disk in your PC, with some free space on it. You can partition it into part XP, and part Linux. So when you restart your PC, you get to choose if you want to boot up in to XP as usual, or boot into Linux.

I'm not sure how hard it is to learn how to use Linux, but that may be a possibility for you anyway. Then, when you wanted to use your PVR's hard drive, you could just boot into Linux and do whatever it is you need to do with it. You could even maybe then copy the stuff off it safely, on to your computer's internal hard drive (or even another external one), and then when you reboot back into XP, you would have the copied data, and the original PVR drive never has to interact with XP.

Hope that helps. If not, hopefully someone else can help. Good luck.

Hi All,

I have a 4GB USB flash which was working in Win XP then I decided to format it in Mac OS Tiger because it wasn't working on Mac.It got stuffed somewhere, somehow.
Now It shows as 2GB on WinXP- will not format - I have used disk management -or work in either WinXP or Mac.
Keeps showing up as 2.0GB- "healthy", file system- is blank in Computer management.

Even linux cannot get it working.

Is it totally gone or there is some hope??

A:corrupted USB flash

hum; you took the 4gb device to a 2gb by allowing it to format as FAT32.
FAT32 will mount on any OS, but 4gb will need to be OS specific,
eg NTFS for Win/NT and above or ext3 for Linux.

Try attaching the device to Window and use the Admin Tools->Comp Mgr->Disk Mgmt

you need to DELETE the partition, create a partition, and format /fs:ntfs

A:Please Help..!! Maxtor USB HDD - The File or Directory is Corrupted & Unreadable..!!

Write caching is something that Windows does to boost disk access performance. Typically with hard drives, Windows will not write data to an HDD *immediately*, instead it will write it to memory and copy it to the drive later on during idle time. This is why when you plug in a USB drive a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon always appears. Using that icon tells the computer to write all cached data to the drive so that you can unplug it without losing any data. "Drive write cache failure" means you unplugged it while unwritten data was still in the cache - data which is now lost.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is what that error means.

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I have run the Analyze diagnostic of TestDisk, and it found both partitions, and re-wrote the partition table, but the drive is still inaccessable. I tried to have it rebuild the MFT, but I get the error MFT and MFT mirror are bad. Failed to repair them.

well, you've lost the data anyway, so delete the partition, recreate a new one,
