Howdy all The amazing folks at Tech Spot saved my bacon many moons back helping me fix a virus laden laptop for Brand New to can't HP connect 17 Internet Envy Quad Touchsmart my sick kid And so I turn to Brand New HP Envy Touchsmart 17 Quad can't connect to Internet you with my latest computer nightmare and beg of your assistance once again I just bought a new HP ENVY TouchSmart t-j Quad Edition Notebook PC ENERGY STAR for my daughter for Christmas It arrived yesterday and I opened it up to start preloading her software onto it so she can have it ready to go Christmas morning Unfortunately the thing just won t let me get connected to the internet via wifi It is using an Intel Wireless-N adapter running Windows factory installed I have tried everything I could think of - using Intel drivers instead of Microsoft ones resetting WINSOCK flushing the DNS using a static IP instead of dynamic the works Nothing appears to be working The device can clearly see my network - it shows up on the list of connections and validates my security information running standard WEP security - not the best I know but it s easier for the multitude of tech I have on my network all of which connects fine but it only gives me limited access and does not want to connect to the network or the internet My base system is running Windows My router is a Netgear Rangemax Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR v I have not tried a hardwire connection yet as I really need this to be a wireless device Help me TechSpot Gurus you re my only hope nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hey Mark. I would connect to the Net by cable and allow it to get any OS updates and/or driver updates before I change any settings.While online,try to connect wirelessly to see if it finds any updates quicker.

My son's notebook has come loose on the left hand side at the hinge.  He's in college 300 miles away currently.  The unit is about 2 years old and appears to be a common problem per the forums.  How can this be fixed?  can you buy a complete case?  Could there be a missing screw? Hello my HP Envy has been acting up after I restored it from a restore point The restoring process worked great and did what it was suppose to 15-j000 System.. Quad not Operating Edition boot Touchsmart Envy will HP do I installed a Bluetooth Wireless driver supported by intel it installed like HP Envy 15-j000 Touchsmart Quad Edition will not boot Operating System.. it should have Then it asked me to reboot so I did then I was prompted on a black screen with an error message of The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors file windows system winload efi error code xc So I brought it onto myself to check other forums to see if there was a solution to this error I tried a bunch of different things HP Envy 15-j000 Touchsmart Quad Edition will not boot Operating System.. and nothing worked So I formatted my hard drive via HP Envy 15-j000 Touchsmart Quad Edition will not boot Operating System.. Command Prompt After that was done I tried reinstalling the operating system Windows That didn't work it said the Operating System on my flashdrive was bad This is false because I've used the same flashdrive for many reinstallations So I tested it on a computer I did not care a whole lot for to make sure it still worked Sure enough it worked I even tried switching out the hard drive with another computer that has Windows already installed on it I get the error message quot Please install an operating system on your hard disk quot As if there was no hard drive attached I'm not sure what to do at this point I have completely lost hope for this very expensive laptop I called HP and they said all I have to do it buy a flashdrive from their store with the recovery OS on it This would make sense but I can't even tap the esc key a bunch of times to even get to the boot menu I can still get to the bios just not the system recovery tab Otherwise it will send me back to the quot Boot device not found quot quot Please install an operating system on your hard disk quot Hard Disk F F System Diagnostics I have tried running the System Diagnostics and they all pass for both hard drives Please help me Thanks in advance

Just bought this Laptop and it will not charge. Battery Icon shays " Plugged In, Not Charging" at 9%. Have tried charging all night and still 9%. Obviuosly, worthless as a laptop in this condition and only a desktop. Checked charger...slightly warm to touch.

I bought a new Dell computer and then got another brand new dell that they replaced for free because they thought something was wrong with it I returned that one and bought a brand new HP that i still have currently all have had Windows VISTA connect the that 3rd to computer internet, NEW Can't connect! work HELP! BRAND After being on the phone for hours and hours with Microsoft Comcast and Dell there still hasnt been anyone that can resolve the issues I have a Motorola modem thats connect by ethernet cable to a D-Link wireless router but is only used as a medium to connect multiple computers to that motorola router through ethernet cables The connection is good given that i'm typing from my old computer with Windows XP Plug and play and Can't connect to the internet, 3rd BRAND NEW computer that work connect! HELP! the internet works no issues Can this be an issue with the Modem or D-link router Ethenet Cable I can not think of anything else and with the Dell computer s microsoft and dell tried everything physically possible to try to un-install Vista do this and do that with everything Comcast did say that all their modems are Vista friendly and i even tried directly plugging the ethernet cable from the modem to the computer bypassing the router and that didnt work Can't connect to the internet, 3rd BRAND NEW computer that work connect! I have a brand new Sony Vaio laptop running Vista home. I have a hardwired broadband network. I'm sure my network is not the problem as I've tested it using other computers.

I ran through the laptops initial setup and everything went smoothly.

I'm using an ethernet cable (tested-working) to this new Vaio and it will not connect. The Marvel Yukon Ethernet adapter is what I'm using.

I've performed all of the self repair functions, but still nothing.

I should simply be able to plug in an ethernet cable and have it connect! This is why I'm an Apple person! This is so frustrating. This would never happen on a Mac.

i got a toshiba satellite l d with windows vista home premium on it and i have tried every trick in the book for about days now to get it to connect to the wireless and it wont connect or it will connect and say quot local only quot which is a big wont to laptop connect internet... new brand inconvenience because im going to be using this laptop for college i called some techies and they said it could be a software issue but idk because i dont have the money to get it checked out i have tried everything to get it to work regedit resseting the router unplugging and setup een tried making my own wireless network so brand new laptop wont connect to internet... i can get it to pick up i bought a usb wireless adapter to see if it would work and it still says quot local only quot so yea im brand new laptop wont connect to internet... kinda mad about the whole ordeal lol but if you can e-mail me with answers or something please Edit brand new laptop wont connect to internet... by Moderator gt It s not a good idea to post a valid email addy in public forums you are very apt to become overloaded with Spam I have removed that addy thanks Mark nbsp

You will have to read about it here. I certainly do not email. Make the effort, we are all volunteers and are not here for your convenience.

Have you set up the router for wifi? Does it have the password set? What security protocol is it set for? Your broadband provider or modem manufacturer should be able to help you first set up that box.

Once that is OK, we can go from there.

Hi I need any help that can be offered I recently bought a brand new HP laptop from Best Buy It is supposed to be a pretty decent machine however it is VERY slow when restarting booting up and when in operation The browser IE Nightly Chrome usually takes anywhere form to seconds to load ANYTHING When i try to open a program it has a usual response time of seconds even when i press the windows key it takes several seconds to bring up the home screen I have installed and used CCleaner to modify start programs and regularly clean the cache It is very frustrating and i would appreciate any help i am running windows processor--AMD A - m APU with Radeon HD Graphics ram-- GB useable bit operating system x based processor full windows HP INCREDIBLY Please Brand Pavillion help: is new slow. I bought this brand new all in one Desktop 8 months ago.  It stopped working under its original warrenty. I called HP and they spent over an hour try to troubleshoot the problem.  It didnt work and the agent said I will be getting the Box tomorrow where I can pack my pc and ship it to them for repairs. It was September the 1st. Since than I am with HP support everyday. Even the Case Manager failed to schedule ONE Box to my address so that I could ship my desktop. No sure where else I can go from there?

Yes, I can connect using an Ethernet cord. The Comcast technical website (our home internet provider) shows that my computer is connected via Ethernet and wirelessly, but I still can only surf the web when I'm connected with an Ethernet cord.

Hi Recently had comupter wiped due to disk error.  Now powers up but goes no further.  Cannot get into BIOS or get any further. Just blank screen and fan/light is on Tried booting from USB and DVD to reinstall windows but no joy. All I really want to do is get running again with any O/S.  I have most of my data secured and expect to lose the rest

hello it's been years since i use this pc and it works just well but HP boot won't 23 Envy touchsmart today when i turned on the pc it can't boot It just turned on but the screen show nothing and when i say nothing i mean really really just like it doesn't get turned on i tried to push the DVD button and it is still working the light on the power button also work and everytime i tried to HP Envy 23 touchsmart won't boot turned it on and off the sound of the pc turned on still can be heard so its just like everything is ok but the computer isn't booting ussually before this happened it took only seconds after i turned on the pc to boot into the loading screen but now it does nothing one day before i upgraded to windows and it is still working the next day it is also still working then i shut it down the HP Envy 23 touchsmart won't boot next time i tried it ijust about minutes i turned it off it won't boot i don't know if this is related but in the internet people said that things like this happened because of the hardware and not the software please help me i really need this pc to get back to work nbsp thank you and sorry for my bad english

Greetings,    I have owned this laptop for over 2 years and have encountered many problems which have required me to open up my laptop and remove debree/dust from the interior. My last adventure included removing the fan and heatsink from the inside, but when I assembled the laptop back together it will not start up. When plugged in the white led light still shows next the the charger socket, but the power button will not light up after several tries. The fan does not start to spin either.   I have tried the hold the power for 1 minute idea, but it does not change anything.I have 3 possible conclusion that are very unlikly to me.1.  I worked on carpet and had static  electrickery! Doubt it.2. The harddrive is not working properly3. The memory is not working properlyAny fixes to these above? any other possible causes?

HP Envy Touchsmart M6 Sleekbook turned off suddenly and won't boot now.   Power and WiFi light for a few seconds and then nothing, will not actually power on.  Following some related posts I openned it, unplugged battery, plugged in wall and tried to power on. The same lights come on, the power button and wi if for a couple of seconds and nothing. This time though the fan did come on, or at least it sounds like a fan, it's a whisper fan so it was always unnoticeable.Is is there something else I can try? Desperate....

When you start the machine up do you see the POST screen? if so tap the F8 key and see if you can boot successfully into Safe Mode.

I own an HP Envy TouchSmart Notebook PC on Envy won't HP 15 TouchSmart turn product number E K UA ABA and Model -j cl I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the HP Envy TouchSmart 15 won't turn on hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened a problem many owners of this laptop model have had Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number - HP Envy TouchSmart 15 won't turn on and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter should be amber orange in color to signify it is charging the battery but no other sounds lights or signs of life I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord pressed the power button for - seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won t turn on I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive two RAM sticks and wireless card but still not able to turn on Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot Is this possible a mother board issue Everything was working fine before embarking on this repair Link to maintenance and service guide http h www hp com ctg Manual c

Hi, I'm having troubles turning my laptop on. I have a Hp Envy 15 Touchsmart. I've tried doing a reboot by taking the battery out and holding power for a minute and trying to reboot it but nothing happened. It was plugged in and fully charged when it turned off. The charging light is still on when it is plugged into the wall.A few weeks ago it randomly restarted and shut off when I was watching a movie on it but it rebooted no problem.My phone fell out of my hand 3 nights ago and landed just left of the track pad when it shut off and won't turn back on.

Rebecca, try booting into "Safe Mode with Networking" by tapping "F8" while the system is booting. Then see if you can connect to the web. If you can, you need to download Malwarebytes - Update it - and run a quick scan. If you can't get to the web try downloading it on another computer and moving it to your laptop with a flash drive. Also you can try doing a system restore and go back a few days. Good luck.

I have an HP Envy with a broken left hinge, which I've seen many times in this forum.  It was never dropped but just one day appeared to break.  The notebook is under warranty...can it be sent in and repaired/replaced?  Please let me know what steps I need to take to get this fixed. The laptop was purchased in September 2013. Thanks!

The computer was stuck on the HP screen and I ran a test and the hard drive failed. I bought a new hard drive and was about to start recovery but decided to power off and reboot before starting the process. I now have a blank display. The lights are all okay, fan is running and    no beeps for errors.  Does anyone have any idea how to get the display to start working? I tried all types of keystrokes but nothing seems to work.  Going to give it one more try before I send this computer to the junk yard.  Thanks

The hinge on the left side has popped up as the base of the metal hinge has separated from the frame. Laptop was puchased from Costco in 2012.

Bought Envy in December 2014.  At about 19 months I noticed the hinge was not working right and I found a small screw which fell out.  The hinge has gotten worse over the last month or so even though I  have been careful with it. I am the only user.  I saw many other posts about hinge problems on the envy.  Is Hp doing anything about this problem?  I believe its only a one year warrenty.  Am I SOL because of this?

I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 23". It was used little over the three years. Last week, when starting up it started to display the message reading "Critical error/your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it next time you sign in". After several attempts of power off and restart, hoping the fix would happen, my HP simply stopped responding to the power on switch. The power on switch would light up indicating that the power was on, but the screen would not light up or indicate activity. Best Buy, where I purchased the computer, could not assess the problem locally - they could only arrange to send it to somewhere in BC, for an assessment that would take 2 to 6 weeks. Can anyone help?

 Does anyone know what this part is?  I'd really like to know its part number because I'm trying to order a replacement.  It has the power button on one side, and on the internal side it has screw-ins for the fan and one of the speakers.  It is a black plastic part that runs along the side that the fan blows out and flattens out on both sides.  It was glued to the metal case.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I have tried every method from HP recovery method and all three give the same response. It goes through everything and reloads software but then gives that response. Try changing the date in BIOS to 1/01/2012. Save & Exit. Boot from Recovery and let it run through the process- but on the first reboot it initiates enter BIOS to ensure date is still modified. If so let Recovery resume-if not change it again then resume.

Hello,  I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 a little over a year ago. The hinge seems to have come unglued fromt the inside. I read that the HP Envy is prone to this, since the hinge is glued in production as opposed to being fastened with a screw. I'm a graduate student, and I'm unable to use my HP for schoolwork due to the faulty hinge. The computer has been handled carefully, and it's never been dropped. This is my first HP. It was great when it was working; however, a laptop that costs nearly a grand and works only for 1 year due to the construction is extremelhy dissapointing.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it was handled by HP. HP ENVY 23-d290 TouchSmartHP ENVY 23-d290 TouchSmart PROCESSOR or MOTHERBOARD FAILED, per my local professional computer repair place after running all diagnostics and troubleshooters. Last year while my daughter was at school she started reporting to me that her HP Envy Touchsmart laptop's case was pulling apart at the corners nbsp Then she started reporting hearing rattling noises inside the case then the fan stopped working nbsp nbsp I called HP support and was told by one person the laptop was under warranty but that wouldn't be covered because of normal wear and tear nbsp I called back later and then was told the laptop was not under warranty nbsp I called back several times and got a variety of answers all of which added up to between and for repairs on a laptop that I spent on nbsp When she came home for a break from school I took apart the laptop and removed the debries from Touchsmart HP Hinge Envy Problems 15 the fan I had purchased a replacement fan which I didn't need and the laptop stopped overheating nbsp Next I tackled the hinge problem which by this time had progressed to be both hinges nbsp The weak plastic connections on the bottom were in bad shape cracked and peices missing nbsp So being the brain surgeon I am nbsp I decided to use epoxy to more firmly affix the hinges to the HP Envy Touchsmart 15 Hinge Problems case nbsp That fix has now failed nbsp I have seen and posted on other threads that this type of failure is despite what HP support says fairly common in the whole line of HP consumer grade laptops nbsp Before this I had mainly used HP business grade laptops and had thought that the quality there would also be in the consumer grade laptops nbsp My mistake nbsp Besides the whole HP Support not seeming to be able to give me a firm answer to if they had a permanent fix for my problem and what it would cost me to fix nbsp I didn't like the fact that they required that the hard drive go in with the laptop nbsp Besides there being personal private information on the HD I've seen them wipe the drive as a matter of course nbsp For a mechanical repair their should be no reason the HD is required nbsp I haven't attempted to open the case to examine the problem closer yet nbsp Soon nbsp I've got till the end of July when she goes back to school nbsp The epoxy repair was performed in January of before she went back to school and let go in March nbsp nbsp At my prior job we were an HP reseller and I have an Elitebook w that is very well constructed so I thought that the HP Envy would be of similar construction quality when I was looking for a laptop for my daughter to use throughout her college career nbsp I am fairly disappointed with the build quality for this laptop nbsp Is there any good way I can get HP to repair this for a reasonable price nbsp I personally believe that HP should go back to the drawing board on the design of the hinges and how they are fastend to the case nbsp And should issue a recall to fix the problem gratis nbsp The hinge connections to the bottom should not disintegrate under normal opening and closing of the screen nbsp nbsp Thanks for any assistance given with this matter nbsp

Hello!I bought my computer about 11 months ago for college and the past month it has been having some weird cracking noises when opening/closing the lid. A friend of mine told me to watch out since he had the same computer and it had broken off. I noticed today that theroght hinge is actually starting to come out and the base of the computer is also getting loose. This is very strange since I barely move my computer from the desk since it is so big, plus I have a smaller one that I use to take to classes so I don't mess with this one for stuff that is unnecessary. My Envy 23 TouchSmart All-in-One PC asked to update the firmware the other day, so I said yes.  It seemed like the update never fully downloaded or completed.  Now, when I try to turn on the computer, it comes up with the following error " Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart."  It then goes into a HP logo screen and says " Preparing Automatic Repair", then "Diagnosing your PC", then Blue screen with "Automatic Repair" header "Your PC did not start correctly.  Press "restart" to restart your PC, which can sometimes fix the problem.  You can also press "Advanced options" to try other options to repair your PC." I had a restore USB drive made when I bought the computer 3 years ago, but it doesn't seem to help. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello HP Buddies nbsp I have an HP Envy Touchsmart laptop model M -J CA nbsp Product Recognizing 840 Envy Touchsmart Samsung SSD Not EVO HP P... 1TB E A UA ABL and it works fine in stock form nbsp I installed a brand new Samsung EVO TB SSD using the correct adapter kit Part number - Part description HDD Hardware Kit http www newmodeus com shop index php main page product info amp products id and I have the following HP Envy Touchsmart Not Recognizing Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD P... concerns nbsp Windows disk management does not recognize the SSD nor does the latest version of Samsung Magician nbsp I think I need to enable ACHI mode or the equivalent but I am not sure how to do this as there does not seem to be anything in the BIOS to allow this nbsp I ordered a USB to SATA adapter not here yet Can't I enable the SSD from the HDD Hardware Kit SATA cable connector I know there can be problems enabling an SSD via an external HD USB case so I did not try that nbsp I want to clone the Samsung EVO TB SSD to the original HP TB hybrid drive is it true you can't clone the Windows drive while in use nbsp I have a bunch of other PC's some with Acronis True Image and some external HD USB cases nbsp Can I clone the Samsung EVO TB SSD to the original HP TB hybrid drive by putting the SSD in one external HD USB case and the original HP TB hybrid drive in another external HD USB case and use Acronis True Image nbsp I thought Samsung Magician can clone boot drives similarly to Acronis True Image no nbsp Does my HP Envy Touchsmart laptop model M -J CA nbsp Product E A UA ABL have an micro SSD installed or is that port empty

I have a HP ENVY notebook of model TouchSmart 15-j127tx.Using the laptop causes eye fatigue after 15 minutes itself.The White color background is the main cause and I experience eye fatigue  even after trying many combinations of  brightness and contrast. I have adjusted the gamma settings to different levels and even used the Display Colour Calibration within Win 10 to improve the display,but the result is same. At first, I thought only I have this problem, but over the time, people whoever uses my notebook complain the same. I use a different  brand laptop for work, which does not have a touch display. I work on that laptop for more than 10 hours a day but don't feel eye fatigue. But when I use this HP laptop, always, I feel the strain on my eyes. Can anyone help on this. Thanks.

I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j127tx Notebook and Eye strain when using the Notebook. I suggest checking your Power plan options. If they are not on balanced. You will see a restore the default settings for this plan. I suggest you select this. You could also try this: In the Device Manager, click the arrow next to Display Adaptors to expand that categoryRight-click on Graphics and select Update Driver Software if more than 1 Graphics adapter do 1 at a time.Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software.The Notebook should find and automatically install the updated driverAfter the installation is complete, restart your Notebook.Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

I've had my DV7 for a little over two years and have only been using it for school work. I am very gentle with it considering it cost a pretty penny and have never dropped it or anything like that.... I just recently noticed that when my laptop is open, the right side of the beats audio speaker panel is very close to just popping off the entire computer. There is something underneath the panel that is putting pressure on it... I've found that it has to do with the hinge because if I press the panel down, the laptop screen will move back into it's correct place. I am very nervous about this because I have a feeling the screen may completely come off soon, so I haven't opened or closed the computer since I've discovered this problem. Does anyone have a solution to this? How I can fix this? I am no longer under warranty.

Bought my expensive laptop in 2014 and just over a year the left hinge started breaking. Its a sparingly used laptop and now seems to pull away at the bottom panel if I try to open or close the display . The left hinge is prying the bottom panel.I am worried the laptop will break if I try using it anymore. Never been dropped and was taken good care of.Did not expect HP to give way so easily when other laptops much cheaper dont have this basic hinge issue. At this point I am terribly disappointed with HP but need to get it fixed. Please help.

I do a lot of highlight copy-paste operations nbsp Is there a good summary of how to do these with this notebook nbsp They designed the touchpad without the right left mouse buttons and do not seem to have something that functions like left click to hold so you can move and highlight nbsp If I do not happen to have my wireless mouse doing the basic operations get interesting nbsp Word and Excel nbsp No swipes to highlight blocks nbsp You seem to have to use the shift and arrow keys to highlight and then keyboard ctrl-c x v nbsp Web documents nbsp touch the screen to highlight a word then and Touchsmart? Highlight, paste Envy for copy find the little anchor and Highlight, copy and paste for Envy Touchsmart? move it to highlight the Highlight, copy and paste for Envy Touchsmart? block you want nbsp Then either keyboard shortcuts or if you tap the touchpad with two fingers you may get the left-click menu or you may remove your highlighted blocks nbsp Are there simpler less complex ways to handle something that you can do easily nbsp with a mouse nbsp Or do I need to make sure the mouse is tethered to the notebook

Had to take apart my laptop last night. Found the left hinge had broken away from the plastic. Found a number of threads about this exact topic. Ok let me cut to the chase I ve tried all normal Not Battery HP Envy Touchsmart Charging M7-j010dx test and options to verify what the problem isn't it's not the battery and not the AC charger nbsp What I really want to know is whether anyone has nbsp solved this HP Envy Touchsmart M7-j010dx Battery Not Charging problem by replacing the motherboard or changing BIOS nbsp HP has been of no help on this matter and they actually want me to just buy a new laptop or pay them to let them fix it nbsp Two things I find strange are why have there been no BIOS updates in the years since this laptop was built and I'm also seeing that there is no download whatsoever for even a reinstall of BIOS and also why -- despite the fact that MANY people seem to have had battery power charging issues on HP laptops in the past few years if not longer -- am I seeing no actual root causes online I don't want to just throw money at the problem forgive me but I'm an engineer I want to know what's going on and whether I can expect the problem to happen again nbsp I've been through batteries and chargers and the story is the same the HP Diagnostics UEFI tell me the battery needs to be replaced nbsp The battery never gets charged above the charge level it was at when I receive the new battery - charge for nbsp all nbsp batteries and draining the battery to a low level about and it doesn't go up nbsp The laptop is not charging the battery I get an orange light which tells me it's trying to charge the battery and the behavior is the same for new HP chargers nbsp Note that all of this is for both the original Windows that the laptop came with and windows that I installed later It seems to me that the only remainining possibilities are needing an updated BIOS I'm basing that on seeing other forum posts for other laptop models that seemed to have the same problem which was fixed by updating the BIOS or replacing the motherboard nbsp For the latter case I'd like to believe that the problem isn't the motherboard itself but rather a loose connector or worse a bad IC on the MB but either way I don't want to give HP any more money considering just sending it to them will cost a third of what the laptop cost but I don't want to simply buy a new laptop when this one is otherwise perfectly fine for what I need nbsp Does anyone have any input on this issue Have you had the same problem and fixed it by updating the BIOS or replacing the motherboard

Hello, I have had my laptop for over 2 years now. I have really been taking a great care of it and I have been more than satisfied with it until this week. One of the hinges suddenly cracked open. I did not drop it nor did I cause the damage. It really worries me that the hinge practically broke by itself and it seems as it is a common problem. I cannot close my laptop and I am afraid that my screen will get damaged if I don't get it fixed asap. And I really need my laptop for college and for work. I would love to hear from HP team on how to solve this problem quickly. Battery not charging. Laptop will function when conneted to adapter. Called support #, was told it was corrupted files, support can fix it for a price. If fix does not work will refund money. This seems like a scam.

Hello HP forum I need HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k025dx Touchscreen drivers please. Touchscreen no longer working. Device Manager shows HID Compliant Touch Screen says its working properly but its not. The driver is the old 6/21/2006 6.3.9600.18341 Microsoft that's not working. I've downloaded & install from HP the updated Chipset & Graphics drivers to no avail. The left hinge is broken on my HP Envy 17" Touchsmart notebook.  The bottom plastic casing is also coming away. It is hard to open and close the laptop without causing more problems and I'm worried about the screen cracking.  My local tech service has been trying to source replacement parts, but has found none available. They have identified that this is a common problem with this model, and I see there are hundreds of postings with the same problem.  Please could you help?

After the update to Windows 8.1 a while back, the touchscreen function on my laptop went away. Every time i go to see my PC info it says "No pen or touch innput is available for this display". I have tried almost everything I can think of. I have used recovery mode and have even refreshed it. Just last night my touchscreen randomly started working at around 11:00 p.m. and this morning the touchscreen functionality went away once again. I went to my Device Manager and saw that in the Human Interface Devices section there was no touchscreen driver. My laptop has seemed to lost all touchscreen capability and I really need help.Is there ANYTHING I can do????? PLEASEE HELP!!!!! :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(      :-(

Hello there. So I have an HP Envy TouchSmart m6-ko22dx Sleekbook and it refuses to turn on. The white LED on the side is on which usually signifies it is charged, however, whenever I hit the power button, it starts for maybe a half of a second and then turns off again. Also refuses to charge. Is there anyway to fix this? Please help ASAP, thank you.

Recently the touch screen on my HP ENVY/Touchsmart hasn't been working. When I bought the computer Windows 8 was installed; I converted to Windows 10 and for about a year the touchscreen was working fine. I also noticed that when I go to HUMAN  INTERFACE Devices in device manager, no touchscreen program appears. HP ENVY 23-d290 TouchSmart PROCESSOR FAILED, per my local professional computer repair place after running all diagnostics and troubleshooters. They agree the computer has been well cared for and should not have failed after only two years. What recourse does HP offer to resolve this problem? PS: I have been a happy HP user for 30 years and I hope HP will stand behind their product.

Any advice much appreciated.   I have an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 that basically won't boot after windows updates.  This is now the 4th time it has happened, twice fixed by Currys (where I purchased the laptop) and once out of warranty by someone else.  It has now happened again and I don't see why I should keep paying to fix an issue that is an original fault with the laptop.  None of the online fixes to restore to Bios work hence why I have to take it to get it repaired.  I'm assuming this is a software issue rather than hardware and so isn't covered by the Consumer Rights Act.  I can't find a complaints contact for HP anywhere on their website and am currently left  as an upset owner of a very expensive brick!! Amy

This unit has developed a fault (2 weeks after the warranty expired!).The screen is just blank, luckily I have remote desktop features & can connect in & run it from another PC.So from this I can state.The PC itself boots up & worksThe touchscreen is still working OK (I can see what is happening via remote).Just NO DISPLAY, no backlight LEDs coming on. Have reset the BIOS in case of an upgrade glitch.HELP -- at the moment just big black object that sits there & humms to itself!

Hello nbsp My laptop won't pick up wireless networks any TouchSmart... ENVY on Cannot detect my HP any wireless networks at all - I'm having what seems like a Cannot detect any wireless networks on my HP ENVY TouchSmart... few different problems nbsp nbsp Because the laptop won't pick up any wireless networks I can't of course connect to the internet without using my ethernet cable nbsp nbsp When I try to turn my adapter on using the F key all it does is toggle airplane mode - which isn't going to help me connect to the internet nbsp nbsp When I go to 'Network' under PC Settings I can toggle airplane mode but the bluetooth is greyed out and can't be toggled and it doesn't even give me an option to turn back on my wifi adapter nbsp nbsp When I went into the Network and Sharing Center to enable the adapter that way under 'Change Adapter Settings' I couldn't even see the adapter listed there nbsp All it showed was Ethernet and Hamachi because I use LogMeIn Hamachi on my computer nbsp By this point I was like Oh great - the adapter might somehow not even be there even though it was last night I was online wirelessly the night before so I went into the device manager and then expanded Network Adapters I only saw the same two Ethernet and LogMeIn adapters nbsp nbsp So next I tried downloading the adapter - but the problem is I have no idea what kind my laptop is supposed to have nbsp Going to the download drivers section in the support area of the hp website I found many options and none of them seemed to work nbsp I also tried redownloading the Wireless Button Driver whatever that's called and that didn't work nbsp nbsp I even tried doing a system restore to a point of about a week ago - this also did not solve my problem because the same things were happening and the same things I tried above still are not solving the problem either nbsp I know countless other people have had the same problem s mentioned above simple Google search told me that with their HP ENVY Notebook PCs so I'm hoping that someone can help me and finally solve this problem for me nbsp The model nbsp is HP ENVY TouchSmart m j dx the model number is E A UA ABA and my computer is running Windows -bit nbsp On another note here's the names of the only adapters that show up in my device manager list one is for LogMeIn Hamachi nbsp Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Ethernet LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Ethernet Adapter Hamachi nbsp The wireless was working fine before with Hamachi installed so I doubt that has any significance nbsp If there's any other information you need that I did not mention above feel free to ask me nbsp I look forward to someone replying as soon as possible and being able to find a solution to this problem for me nbsp EDIT One other thing I should mention is that the wifi in my location is working fine for every other device I try phone gaming console other people's laptops desktops etc

Hello dginther, Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand wireless is not working properly. If the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore Next, please try the steps in this HP document: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 8) These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, you can try a manual reinstall of the driver: 1. Go into Device Manager, then Network adapters.2. Right-click on the wireless driver, and select "Uninstall".3. Restart the computer. Hi. So recently my HP ENVY lapop has been some what of a nuisance. Several of the keys on my laptop have decided to be quite unresponsive. If I hit the corner of the key it simply will not work. I have to hit perfectly in the center and SLAM the key about 10 times to get it respond even a little bit. *The laptop is also under a year old and has no damage*Could this be a software issue? Are there any ways to fix this without having to completely replace the computer?

Hi HP Team, This is the second time that my hinge has malfunctioned. My HP Envy was sent in for repair a year ago under warranty, and now warranty is up and the same problem has occured. I notice many people have had problems like this with similar models. I'd like to know whether I'd need to pay to have it fixed again, despite it being the same problem that was supposed to be fixed. I have the order confirmations of the previous repair and can send that if needed. It is unacceptable to me to have such a fault laptop, considering how much importance it has for my school work. I reset my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j051sa Notebook PC about a month ago and it has been working still but saying that windows is no longer activated and everytime i switch it on now it tells me to go to PC settings to activate it with a product key or something which i dont have. Also since the reset it uninstalled microsoft office from my computer and is now saying it is not activated and i contadted office support but they cannot sort it out because office was already installed on the computer so i have to contact the manufacturer.

Please help! The touch screen on my Envy laptop no longer works. I've tried restarting and shutting off, but to no avail. When I go to PC Info, it tells me that: "No pen or touch input is available for this display." This is obviously incorrect, because my laptop is, in fact, a touch screen. Hi, My HP ENVY 23 TouchSMART AiO Pc is no longer working.  When I power on nothing appears on the screen at all - it remains black at all times.  I can hear the fan or something inside making noises so it's getting some sort of power.   I have to hold down the power button to switch it off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can bring it back to life please?  All my data is backed up so I'm happy with any extreme options. Cheers,Andy
