Has anyone installed a GTX 1080 in their Phoenix yet? I ordered my new GTX 1080 yesterday directly from Nvidia and it will be here next week. I am upgrading from a 4GB EVGA GTX 960 FTW card that has currently been in my Phoenix for a bit over a year now.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-Phoenix-810-430qe-and-Nvidia-GTX-1080-graphics-card/td-p/5653446
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I want to upgrade the New Nvidia 1080 GTX founders on this computer. I noticed inside the tower on the power supply it reads 470W and on the specs it says 500W. Will this be an issue since Nvidia recommends 500W for this card. Will this card fit inside the tower. It is about 1 inch longer then the exist GTX960. Can the current motherboard and cooling system handle this new card. Any input and advice is much appreciated. thxhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/New-Nvidia-GTX-1080-card-on-HP-ENVY-Phoenix-860/td-p/5613097
Any advice on whether there is room to add a Firewire card/port on the 810 running windows 10? Any thoughts on an appropriate model 1394 card to best be compatible? When I bought my HP ENVY Phoenix 810-430qe, I had the option to get the GTX 980 card (which I should have done) but I opted for the 745 OEM. I want to upgrade my graphics card to the GTX 980 and noticed that some cards are made a little differently. My question is which card is fully compatible with my computer and which one do you all recommend? http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-980/buy-gpu Thanks!

Greetings, We know your system will run a GTX 980. Two items to verify are Power Supply (PS) requirement and card dimensions. You'll also need a combination of 6 pin or 8 pin additional (PS) power connectors to run the card. The manufacturer should provide an adapter to make it work. You can run a 980 on a 500 Watt PS. A 980Ti needs 600 W or better. Check clearance from the back input-output panel where the 745 is now. The 980 cards are usually 10+ inches in length. The 980 cards are double slot so you'll probably have to pop a backplate to install the card. Cheers!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-ENVY-Phoenix-810-430qe-Graphic-Card-Hardware-Upgrade/td-p/5610352

HP has enabled overclocking from the factory. I did not turn it on as it was already enabled. To verify this. I even reset bios to apply defaults and it was still enabled. This system also comes with a liquid cooling solution. The settings are limited. I will post a picture. But, I wanted to know where does one start with these settings. Doing a friendly overclock. I don't see why it could not easily hit 4.2 to 4.3GHz? Any thing past that I would consider it more of an aggressive oc? I personally don't feel the want or need to oc atm. As 4.0GHz is plenty fast enough stock right now. But, it is there in the future if need be.

I have noticed HP providing newer bios update for systems using the same motherboard and specs. Why is the newer bios not posted for my said pc? And is it safe flashing to the newest bios even though they are listed for other systems with same specs? I am on version A0.08 and HP has updated them to A0.12 Example for this system here http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-750-100-Desktop-PC-series/8499646/model/8501... Also note. a few days ago i bought the hp envy phoenix 860-000nd.Within the shown specifications i saw it would contain a Nvidia geforce GTX 970 graphics-card. When i opened the desktop by unscrewing the tumbscrew i saw a graphics-card that looked nothing like the Nvidia i saw on the website of Nvidia. Since there is no other brand name or somthing like that visible i was wondering what card it is and why i don't have the card that was "promised" in the productinformation.i hope someone can help me with this question because i get the feeling i got scammed or something. I bought an HP Envy 860-121 Desktop in April 2016 , and it came with the Nvidia 970GTX gaming card.I told the store from which I bought it, before I ordered it, that I do not play games, but make a living drawing in graphics.I want to put a different Nvidia card in the computer, because I am not achieving needed finishes with the 970GTX. I found out from Nvidia, that I must have a Quadro Card for graphics, not a gaming card. I purchased on line an Nvidia Quadro 2000. I installed it, but the computer will not start and I get 3 long beeps then 3 short beeps. I have contacted HP to ask what video cards work in my motherboard and they tell me to call Nvidia. Nvidia says to call HP. Does anyone know where you can go to match your Motherboard with Video cards?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/Which-Nvidia-Quadro-graphics-card-will-work-with-HP-Envy/td-p/5658380

I need to know if someone can assist over at HP and look into this. Does HP have a bios update for my said model Phoenix? Maybe never been posted? Currently my bios version is A0.08. That current version I have installed. When I installed it a few months ago. It was taken down shortly after from the support page for my pc. It has never been posted again. I would like to know if a newer version exist and maybe HP just never bothered to post the update for it? Why was it even pulled in the first place when HP posted it back then? I am on Windows 10 64 bit. And back then when this current version I am on was posted. It was posted under Windows 10 driver page.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Phoenix-810-430qe-BIOS-update-HELP/td-p/5788572

It is your choice of placement on the desktop. I keep my desktop on ther floor since it is cooler there, even though I use water cooling for my CPU. Floor placement is normal for the type of desktop PC you have. Desktop PC is a bit of a misnomer. It doesn't mean that is where you have to place the PC. Usually only the convertible desktop PC's are meant to placed on the desktop. The is why the optical drive placement is sideways.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/usb-card-reader-slots-on-phoenix-envy-850/td-p/5612399

HP Envy 700-430qe
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 660
RAM: 12.0 GB
It won't start. When I power on it hangs just before the BIOS screen. I get the flashing white line like you do when you're booting from Disc only it's lower down the screen. What's worse is that it won't allow me to change anything in the Boot Order Menu (F9) or the BIOS menu (F10). When I make a selection and click Enter it does nothing at all.
I haven't made any changes to the PC recently. I did do one thing after I clicked Restart that I've never done before. I closed the DVD tray with a blank DVD in it while the PC was shutting down. Wonder if that confused it somehow. Anyone had this problem before?

Hi: See if this works... Download the drivers from this link below (first file listed --64 bit). https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver... Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders. With the flash drive and W7 installation media in the machine, boot from the W7 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 will install.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Trying-to-install-Windows-7-on-an-HP-Envy-700-430qe-CTO/td-p/5656529
the detailed specs of the PC is listed here http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03273835 the only thing i have upgraded is the graphics card to a 960 gtx mini the rest is the stock parts that came with the PC. do you think this PC would be able to handle the nvida 1080 gtx without major issues? It requires i think a 500w power supply and it uses i think from the nvidia specs 180watts of power. it seems technically it should work but just wondering what HP might say and if anyone else with this simular computer has tried it. Thanks. Edit: I have the updated BIos that was released for Windows 8 that unlocks the issue with the secure boot that previous locked out the PC from adding new cards. am running Windows 10 home currently.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Geforce-1080-GTX-on-a-HP-Pavilion-HPE-h9-1150-Phoenix/td-p/5653921

Been looking for a good gaming card for 140-160$, these seem to be the 2 contendors, what do you guys think ?
Hi for the last months ive been trying to fix a but Nvidia Random not card with restarts card graphics graphics AMD problem that ive been having with my computer about months ago I did a major pc upgrade where i replaced my motherboard processor ram heat sink power supply and case the only things I used from the original computer where HDD's SDD and my AMD radeon HD gb Now ive have the most strange issue where i can be watching a video off the HDD or surfing the web on youtube etc and not long after I Random restarts with AMD graphics card but not Nvidia graphics card start the activity my computer will turn off like if I had flicked the switch on the back of the power supply and then it boots back up again and will run fine until i start up an activity again and then it does exactly the same thing and reboots there is no BSOD shown nor Dumps Created Ive tried many things to sort this out and have RMA'ed the power supply and the motherboard the motherboard wasn't a direct replacement as they didn't sell my original board anymore which was a gigabyte ga-x -ud now i have an asus p x deluxe I have tried only plugging in one HDD SSD and then tried a spare HDD when that failed i have tried one ram stick at a time and still nothing now heres where it gets strange whilst trying to rule out differnt hardware i switched my AMD card out for a very old mb pcie x nvidia graphics and since then my computer has been running marvelously i can have it playing videos for hours days even although i havent properly tested for days and not a single problem at all The main difference between the cards is obiously one is nvidia and the other is AMD the nvidia one doesn't require any form of external power from the power supply where as the AMD one requires pin connectors and the AMD card is Massively more powerful when compared to the nvidia one the AMD one can run Practically all new titles on max with ease whereas the nividia card struggles to play gta sa on medium so i think ive narrowed it down to a driver error with amd and another driver with my new board a damaged AMD card a second dodgy power supply or something else that i haven't thought about or discovered yet Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any suggetions as im pretty much all out of ideas at this point and its starting to grind my gears that i cant use my expensive new computer as it should be Any help is appreciated Joe P S sorry about any spelling or punctuation mistakes made but Im very tired at the time of writing this and will be going to bed

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.
I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.
My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

Hi, Where do you get the specs of your machine which says it has NVIDIA card. HP Envy 15t-j000 is a series of many laptops, some models only have Intel 4000 chip such as: https://www.amazon.com/HP-i7-4710HQ-Hybrid-Windows-Notebook/dp/B00D7Z84OY Regards.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/I-cant-find-NVIDIA-graphic-card-on-a-my-hp-envy-that-was/td-p/5804491
Wondering if the oversized ASUS ROG STRIX 1080 will fit in my ENVY 700-049. I measured the case and it seems like it might barely fit, however I don't know the exact shape of the card. I haven't made any upgrades that should effect the way the card fits.
@SlimmonShady?, welcome to the forum. Please look at the card here. You can go to the Specifications tab for all of what you need to know. If this is the card that you want to buy it is 11.73" in length. I know that you said you measured the case. Measure it again from the Back I/O plate to the front of the case where the card will be installed. This will allow you to see if other components will be in the way. I know for a certain that it will be extremely tight and could block airflow. Also, it requires additional power from the PSU. Your PSU may not be powerful enough at 460W or the appropriate cable. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/ASUS-ROG-STRIX-1080-in-HP-ENVY-700-049/td-p/5682912

Express & one of the deciding factors of my purchase was the discrete graphics card nbsp On the T s I chose NVIDIA NVS M Optimus Graphics GB Intel Core i - M Processor nbsp I was thrilled to have more than MB of dedicated graphics memory for my T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question... games nbsp Upon receiving my laptop though I ran the Windows Experience Index and saw that the T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question... lowest score was the graphics card which is identified as Intel HD Graphics Family and has MB of dedicated graphics memory nbsp After my heart started beating again I checked Device Manager and found under Display both Intel HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA NVS M listed as working with up-to-date drivers nbsp When I configured the laptop online there was no mention of hybrid graphics so I'm not sure why I have an Intel Graphics card on the machine nbsp My current laptop that I was looking to replace is a T p with a NVIDIA Quadro FX M graphics card and only that NVIDIA card is shown under Device Manager and in the Windows Experience Performance Information nbsp Thinking that perhaps disabling the Intel card would cause the NVIDIA card to take over I disabled that through Device Manager nbsp My screen went black and after feeling quite stupid I rebooted my computer nbsp The default Windows Display driver kicked in allowing me to see well enough to get back to Device Manager and enable the Intel Graphics nbsp I counted myself lucky that I wasn't stuck with a working computer with a blank screen but I'm still confused about why the NVIDIA card isn't the only display adapter on the machine and why it isn't the default main adapter nbsp Most importantly will it be usable to run my games nbsp My second question is regarding the PCI ExpressCard slot nbsp My aim for this machine was to have a HDD to store my data I selected the GB RPM HDD and a SSD to boot and run my programs from nbsp Another reason for choosing this machine was the comment on Lenovo's site stating that a user booted his T s from a solid state drive in the PCI ExpressCard slot which was exactly was I was looking for nbsp I need the CD DVD drive so I can't put the second hard drive in a caddy nbsp During configuration I chose the option for an Express Card Slot amp in Card Reader amp Smart Card Reader nbsp From what I can tell the Express Card slot is not connected to the Card Readers and I will not lose use of those ports nbsp When I opened the computer up to install more RAM I saw what is labeled in Lenovo's hardware manual as the Express Card slot apparently empty - which is great nbsp Now I need to figure out what kind of SSD to look for and on that I'm kinda lost I'm guessing that my ExpressCard slot is mm and PCI form factor rather than USB but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a not-incredibly-educated guess nbsp I'm also not sure where mSATA comes into play for me if at all nbsp Looking at SSDs on sites such as newegg com I'm unsure of what form factor to choose - ExpressCard PCI-E mSATA and or nbsp ----- nbsp The tech specs of my configured T s copy pasted from the order status are as follows nbsp I hope this means more to you than it does to me nbsp Part A nbsp nbsp VBB INTCRI - MPR GHZ M nbsp nbsp VBB GENWIN HOMEPREM nbsp nbsp nbsp which ultimately doesn't matter as I'll be booting from Windows Enterprise on my SSD A nbsp nbsp SBB GW HP US ENGLISH A nbsp nbsp SBB HD LDBCKLTANTGLDSPMBBBRD A nbsp nbsp SBB NVD PNS OPG GBICI - MP M nbsp nbsp VBB GBPC - DDR SODMM nbsp nbsp nbsp which has been removed and replaced by two GB st... The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. What you are talking about within the ram slot cover, is the mPCIe slot, which can be occupied by a mSATA drive. http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420s-T400s-T410s-removal-of-4-in-1-SD-card-...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420s-Nvidia-Graphics-Card-amp-Express-Card-Questions/td-p/483519
The display coming from my HP ENVY Desktop 750-114 is terrible. Colors are flat and washed out looking. I'm using an HP V242h monitor. I hooked the monitor up to a different computer and it does fine, colors look bright and not washed out, so my conclusion is it must be the graphics card in the HP ENVY. My question: we feel fairly confident we can change out the card, if we know which one is best to get. We have a 9 year old who is into gaming (though being so young, he's not a big time gamer -- YET). What card can we get that will make his gaming experience better, and my our pictures, etc. better? Thanks in advance!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Best-graphics-card-for-HP-ENVY-Desktop-750-114/td-p/5804915
Does anyone have an idea on how good of a Graphics card i can get for this computer? The specs say i can add an MXM Generation II card and i have been looking around but their seem to be many variables in these cards. Any information from you guys would be great! I am looking to play Call of duty Ghosts and it will hardly even run it. Do they make External Grapics cards that would PNP or what do i need to do. Any help from you guys would be great!

Hi, It is a CTO machine therefore it can be any option in the list. Given it has PCI Express MXM slot that supports a PCI Express x16 graphics card (Gen 2.0) but finding a place to buy MXM card is another story. The specs shows 2 options: GeForce GT 630M (2 GB)Radeon HD 7650A (2 GB)You can order from HP but you need to check the right motherboard (depending on your option when you bought the machine) from the following options first: http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=C9D29AV Regards.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/envy-23-d160qd-compatible-graphics-card/td-p/5261105
Hello, I would like to know if it was possible to upgrade my graphics card. I currently have an Intel HD Graphics 5500. This is enough for most of my current games, but games like Fallout 4 can hardly run on my laptop. If anyone could help me that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hi, Unfortunately no, the Intel chip is soldered to the motherboard and the motherborad has no room for you to upgrade. Regards.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Can-I-upgrade-my-graphics-card-on-my-HP-ENVY-m7-Notebook/td-p/5643797

Unboxed it. Plugged everything in. Turned it on. The machine crashed several times within a few minutes. Take your pick from "System Thread Exception", "System Service Exception", "Kernel security check failure", "DPC Watchdog Violation", "Kmode exception not handled" and "Windows hasn't loaded correctly". It must have crashed 30 times within the first hour. I reinstalled Windows from the machine and... it all happened all over again. Clearly no one in the factory quality controlled this machine. Shameful from a brand like HP. Has anyone else experienced this problem?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/HP-Envy-Phoenix-a-nighmare/td-p/5750611

I have been happily running two monitors since I got this computer in April one monitor connected to the HDMI port and the other to the DVI port on the NVIDIA third Envy on a HP monitor How run I Phoenix can 860-010 nbsp GTX card nbsp This card supports four monitors maximum nbsp It has nbsp HDMI DVI and DisplayPort connections nbsp Note that on model - you cannot nbsp use the two vertical HDMI ports nbsp marked How can I run a third monitor on HP Envy Phoenix 860-010 HDMI and HDMI nbsp They are not active in this model nbsp They only work with lesser models nbsp that use nbsp integrated graphics nbsp This model has the dedicated graphics card so nbsp only the ports on the card are active nbsp That's according to HP Support and I can confirm it from experience nbsp nbsp Now I need to connect a third monitor which only has DVI and VGA ports nbsp My only option is to nbsp connect it to one nbsp the DisplayPort ports on the card nbsp through nbsp an adapter nbsp I contacted NVIDIA support and they told me that either an active or passive adapter will work with this card nbsp So I bought a passive DisplayPort to DVI adapter cable and connected the third monitor to one of the DisplayPorts nbsp When I boot the boot screen shows up on my third monitor but it flags an unspecified nbsp error says it can't start Windows and offers to recover my system back to a restore point which I of course decline nbsp I tried various advanced troubleshooting nbsp options two different DisplayPort ports and two different DVI monitors with the same results each time nbsp When I disconnect the third monitor the computer is back to normal and boots fine nbsp My third monitor is obviously able to display stuff through this connection because the boot screen and various error and recovery screens nbsp show up there and I can use my mouse to interact with those screens nbsp The error message screen references log file C windows System Logfiles Srt SrtTrail txt nbsp That file flags the following error nbsp Root cause found ---------------------------Unknown Bugcheck Bugcheck b Parameters xc xfffff a b xffffd cc f b x nbsp I tried looking up this error online and got no helpful hits nbsp Does anybody know how to make a nbsp third DVI or HDMI monitor nbsp work on this model nbsp nbsp
Update: When I run two monitors, one connected to the HDMI port and the other to a DisplayPort through the DisplayPort to DVI passive adapter cable, it works fine. So the cable itself is OK. It's only when I attempt to run a third monitor through that cable that it fails. I suspect NVIDIA support was wrong when they said a passive adapter would work for a third monitor. I've heard of a video card that works fine with a passive adapter for the first two monitors but requires an active adapter for the third. I was hoping the NVIDIA GTX 960 was not like that. Does anybody know for sure? Also, the precise sequence of boot messages with the third monitor is: 1. Preparing Automatic Repair screen.2. Diagnosing Your PC screen.3. Automatic Repair screen with message "Windows couldn't load correctly"http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/How-can-I-run-a-third-monitor-on-HP-Envy-Phoenix-860-010/td-p/5738476
I have been regulary plauged with the following issue. Rebooting 1-2X usually fixes it. I go to power the system up and the fan starts up like a blowdryer and has a loud high pitched whine. at this point the PC refuses to boot. When I recognize this starting I force it to power down by holding the power button for 7-8 seconds. The last attempt to boot the pc lead to the same symptoms but, rebooting did not fix it and it will not boot. By St. Boogar waiting at the backside door of purgatory, I have had way to many issues with this "gaming" PC. When I initially ordered this last november the mobo fried within 5 days of use. I don't even bother overclocking things. TLDR: I am frustrated by this recuring issue, Please help.

I ordered a new HP Envy Phoenix 860st yesterday and was wondering if anyone else has taken the plunge on this same model? This will be my first HP after 15+ years of buying Dell computers. I actually looked at Dell but they offered almost zero customization to their XPS line. Anyhow, I'm just curious to hear from others who also purchased this model. Good, bad or indifferent. I should mention my current PC is a Dell XPS running Windows Vista and it has been 8 years since my last upgrade. However, I have upgraded my previous PC with a newer graphics card, SSD drive and maxed out the RAM. This was all in an attempt to squeeze as much life out of it as possible, but unfortunately the time has come to move on from it. Feel free to drop a note on your experience and any caveats. Thanks!

1. It should be.
2. Start with 450Watts but look at the specs for the card to assure the PSU is adequate, may need to go as high as 750Watts.
I want to know if my parts are compatible with the Nvidia 1080 before I decide to buy it. Let me know guys!!

I have an HP Envy t CTO Notebook PC Product LW AV Every so often I would get the message quot Display driver stopped responding and has recovered quot for quite a while but was never able to fix the problem Then with Envy my HP Radeon graphics on card Problem AMD Laptop I started to get the blue screen of death which said something about a memory dump and a memory driver Usually I would hold down the power Problem with AMD Radeon graphics card on my HP Envy Laptop button and restart it Then while in regular windows mode the screen got all staticy upon restarting I got to the windows logo then I'd see a black screen with static in it and it never fully started I can go into safe mode with no problems graphics or otherwise Going into Device Manager I deleted the AMD Radeon HD M XT Graphics driver then Problem with AMD Radeon graphics card on my HP Envy Laptop restarted and it would start and Problem with AMD Radeon graphics card on my HP Envy Laptop run fine with the other driver Intel driver until Windows loaded another driver for the Radeon driver I couldn't stop it after loading the screen would go blank again Nothing found online so far has fixed the problem I then went into Recovery and went back to factory settings Which worked for a few hours everything worked fine Then I started to get the static again to the point I'm right back to where I started Can anyone tell me exactly what the problem is Hardware or Driver Why did it work temporarily Is it possible to totally disable the Radeon driver for good where it doesn't reload when restarted My computer has two graphics drivers not sure why Is there a way to use the other driver instead the Intel driver Since it's not under warranty anymore if I brought it to a technician is there something they can do Thanks for your help
I can't tell you how to turn off the Radeon card for good, as that information isn't in the HP Envy manuals that I was able to find, but I can tell you a few things.
1. It sounds like a hardware problem. The Radeon card may be failing. The other possibility is that the Radeon driver is becoming corrupted somehow (how I don't know, and it's a bit of a mystery as to how it could become corrupted)
2. The computer has two graphics cards in it. One for low power general use (the Intel) and one for more demanding graphics duties (the Radeon). In your laptop, whichever card is used is supposed to be switchable.
3. It works properly in Safe Mode because the laptop only loads the Intel drivers in Safe Mode, not the ATI/Radeon driver. Therefore the Radeon card is not being used in Safe Mode, so it will always appear to work properly.
Since it's out of warranty, you might want to have it evaluated by a trained technician. The graphics card may have to be replaced (if it even can be - some cant be). Get a quote first on how much the evaluation will cost, and how much a graphics card will cost if that turns out to be the trouble. If its a significant chunk of a new laptop's cost, you might want to reconsider fixing that one, and just buy another.
I picked up a refurbished HP ENVY 750-137C, and am currently looking to upgrade the graphics. I don't want to break the bank, but I do want it to last me some time, so I'm looking at the Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1070. Aside from the changes in power requirements, does anyone know if this card would be compatible, and if there are any issues to this upgrade? Also, Nvidia recommends a 500W power supply for this card. Would that be enough, or is that genrous number? Additionally, if anyone has a power supply product they would recommend for this theoretical combination, I would greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks!
@Drifterx311?, welcome to the forum. Here are the full specs of the card on nVidia's website. The card is double slot and 10.5" in length. I suggest measuring from the Back I/O plate to the front of the case to see how much space is available. I believe that it will fit, but it will be tight. As you stated, the specs recommend a 500W power supply unit (PSU). Personally, I would buy one with at least 600W. This will give you some extra power for peak needs. I like Corsair products. Here are some PSU's for you to review at Newegg. If you choose a modular PSU it will allow you to only install the cables that are absolutely necessary. This allows for better airflow. The PSU is the backbone of the computer. Read the Customer Reviews to see what users have to say about them. A good PSU will make your system run much better. Hello, I have some questions about this particular product. I'm interested in possibly ordering one however there are some things I'd like to know first. Does the computer have front installed case fans, what's the efficiency rating of the power supply unit & what other PCI slots other than the ones for the graphics card does the motherboard have?
Hi, There is not a lot on information posted on the HP Envy Phoenix 860st. Is this the model that you are looking at? If yes, then use this link for the HP Support pages. The sales site server does have a list of certified HP OEM graphics cards. This particular model PC has a 600 watt power supply. HP is offering an extended return period during the holidays. Schwaa, welcome to the forum. This was a very good review of how you upgraded your computer. What you discovered are the problems that are created by a mid-size case. It would be great if HP would offer a full size case for their gaming computers. How do I close this thread?

I've been considering buying the HP Envy Phoenix - I don't like buying a pc over the internet though I am finding it impossible to find this model anywhere in my Province at retail stores like Best Buy Staples etc they have them online as well but don't carry the lastest models in-store anymore This Desktop HP Phoenix 860st ENVY has been ongoing for a long while HP ENVY Phoenix 860st Desktop nbsp I also noticed the price increased recently by Canadian at HP Canada amp online at other stores which seems odd for what now isn't HP's latest This brings me to another question nbsp I see that HP in the U S has a model I would prefer buying it's the Envy Phoenix st I'm able to select larger hdd's Cpu etc Why is HP not making this available in Canada nbsp Personally I think HP is making a mistake I'm not buying the Envy - but would buy the st if it were available here nbsp I'm likely to have a local shop build one to my specs instead which I've done a couple of times in the past nbsp Using pc's since First pc bought Every day I'm still learning new things about computing
This is a peer to peer help forum. The only presence that HP has on it are the Admins and the Mods. Otherwise, none of us works for HP. I have a HP Phoenix 860-170VR (you can review the specs) that has similar specs to the 860-019. In fact, it has a HDD instead of a SSD. It is a very nice computer with good system performance. HP has loaned it to me so I can help members with their problems. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 019. I bought the HP phoenix 860-019 a couple of weeks ago and from day 1 it freezes up. There is no one particular thing I am doing, it is very random. Could be 10 mins into use or a couple hours. All drivers are up to date. I have read that the nvidia 860 card that is installed has issues with windows 10 but don't see any fixes. That drive is up to date as well. This was a refurbished computer could that be the issue? Should I reinstall windows? I have seen this question and I have seen answers, but nothing that helps, so here goes: 1. HP Envy Phoenix hard drive died with Windows 8 installed2. Ordered $25 restoration disks3. Put in new hard drive and restored computer4. Did upgrade to Windows 105. Have permanent watermark saying activate windows, go to settings to activate windows6. Need windows activation key and have error: "Activation failed because this device doesn't have a valid digital entitlement or product key. Error code 0x803F7001 I understand the key is in the bios. Hey there @SdeGat,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having trouble trying to boot from a USB flash device needed to update your SSD firmware. I am happy to help with this. Please see the following document: How to Boot from a USB Flash Drive in Windows 10 - www.tenforums.com It includes how to see up the boot process from within Windows 10. I turn on the defrag and Optimized my c drive as you advised me but my question is also are there other changes I might need to change to get more speed out of this SSD drive? My PC had Windows 8.1 Pro when I first got it and here on the HP support Form I found a list of steps to change, but I have not found this list in my files yet. Are you saying that Windows 10 has been changed in this issue that it makes all changes from a standard drive to a SSD drive,so we don't need to do anything?Thank You for your Help...Dan
Cranky_Eagle YES -- Win10 knows when the OS is running on an SSD and already has built-in the functions it needs to work effectively with an SSD. There is nothing you need to do. I've been running Win10 on an SSD and never had to do anything to get it to work properly.Good Luckhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/HP-ENVY-Phoenix-Desktop-860-180st-CTO/td-p/5768497
Hi, I have recently bought a HP Envy Phoenix 860-007ng (purchased in Germany as I am currently living here). My question is around whether the power supply is large enough. Here are the key specs: - IntelŽ Core? i7-4790K-16 GB DDR3 (2 x 8 GB) - NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ GTX 980 Ti (6 GB)- 500 Watt Power Supply-128 GB SATA SSD-2 TB 7200 U/min SATA Having done some research online I understand the 980ti graphics card I have normally needs a larger PSU. My question is why does the computer comes with a 500 watt PSU? And is it worthwhile/possible for me to install a new psu manually? Many thanks for your help! Andy
Greetings, I don't work for HP. You are correct. A 500 W PS should not be able to power a retail version of that graphics card. My guess is Nvidia or a licensee of Nvidia ( EVGA, Gigabyte, Zotac, MSI ) modified the card for HP to work with a 500 W PS. You could replace the PS. I just upgraded to a Corsair RM650X PS in my Envy Phoenix 810-150. It was somewhat of a hassle. Very tight working conditions inside the case. You must measure the existing PS and purchase accordingly. You would know if you have insufficient power on the 12V rail. It is also possible you are on a tight rope. Adding any additional components could push the power supply to it's limit. Cheers!http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Power-Supply-on-HP-Envy-Phoenix-860/td-p/5599065
The LED lights on the front of my HP Envy Phoenix 860 only change colors in Red and Green even if those colors are not any of the 4 colors I have chosen in the HP Phoenix Control software. There are no settings or other menus in the Phoenix Control software. Just the 4 different modes. Trying each mode the colors never change to anything but Red and Green. Turining it off and back on has makes no difference either. Based upon the Programs and Features area the version of HP Phoenix Control software that came installed on my computer is 1.1.1. I know Christmas is coming up but only Red and Green all the time is gonna get old. Thanks for your help. Scott

Hello all. I recently bought an Nvida 1060 to replace my old GTX 680. No problem knowning to to swap out the cards in general, but there was this metal support on the old graphics card as well as holding the wiring together on top of it. I'm curious if any other 1440 owners have dealt with this. Did you leave it in? How do I take it out if I can? There is not a single youtube video or support video of anyone with this model number! Appreciate all of your help. To clarify; this isnt the bar that goes across some HP envy models that you can see in the tutorial videos.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/hp-envy-phoenix-h9-1440-GPU-Swap/td-p/5754922
Hello HP Support Forum,I would be grateful if you could tell me whether my pre-built HP ENVY Phoenix 860-000nj Desktop PC should be compatible with NVIDIA's new GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card or not. I should note that this desktop of mine has been running a GTX 980 Ti on a 500W power supply for almost six months now without a single problem. I've added a link with the full specifications below.Thank you!http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04826674http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-my-HP-ENVY-Phoenix-Desktop-PC/td-p/5616738
I bought the Acer Aspire 8920G and it comes with the the Nvidia Geforce 9500M video card, the website i bought it from said it is full hd 1920x1080 as well as all the reviews i've seen on it, however the resolution is maxed out at 1680X925. My friend has the 6920G with the same video card and his will do the full HD res. The weird thing is that even the sticker on the laptop it's self says it's full HD?
That must be the maximum resolution of the monitor screen.
So as you will see i think my GPU is fairly old but i would like to know if there was anyway to boost Perfomance
Here is the DxDiag Results
The Nvidia Control Panel
Also Would It be posssible to increase the dedictated Video Memory(i have checked the bios it is not there so dont tell me to check)
I would also like to know if you think this graphics card HERE is a good one for my PC Or This one im on a budget of about $80 to $90
You can not increase dedicated video memory, it is what it is. 512 MB
The system (motherboard) can share memory with the video card, my MSI shares 2 GB giving me a total of 4 GB of graphics memory.
Maybe save a little more money before you make a choice.

Hi all, I am looking at buying a new Nvidia Graphics card for my system, running XP and currently have a Nvidia Geforce2 MX/MX 400. anyone have any knowledge of these cards.
First of all, what graphics slot has your motherboard got, AGP, PCIe or PCI.
Hello I'm going to keep this question pretty general non-spec-oriented and see if it works forgive me if I don't provide enough information I'm planning to purchase a new laptop and have a choice between a laptop that includes an NVIDIA GeForce GTX card and one graphics need I Do NVIDIA an card? that does not include Do I need an NVIDIA graphics card? a graphics card I don't know how to make this decision because I'm clueless about what graphics cards do Here is what I will use Do I need an NVIDIA graphics card? the laptop for The most CPU intensive stuff will be Pro Tools and other audio sequencing stuff Photoshop and Illustrator and other graphics programs and Camtasia I have Premier Pro and AfterEffects video processing applications but I don't use them and I think the likelihood that I will become a power user is very low I am not a gamer at all Based on that do I need the NVIDIA graphics card Again my apologies if I'm not providing enough background to enable an accurate answer I'm happy to follow up with more Thank you Tim
Short and sweet Yes
Well I seem to be only able to use the NT drivers I got with my card unfortunitly when I try and use the XP drivers when I bootup the PC and login to XP it hangs I have to restart and it still hangs which means probably im using the wrong drivers So what im pritty much saying here card Nvidia Graphics is only the NT drivers work But I dont get any options or nothing in the display properties it just lists the card memory used etc So okay i can play Medal Of Honor Return to castle Wolfestein etc probably half life any game that does Nvidia Graphics card not detect the card Nvidia Graphics card like the new ones like Grand Theft Auto etc Im annoyed at this i was looking forward to playing Battelfield Looks like im stuck with what games i got But why cant it play MOD etc which requires a mb Nvidia Graphics card card and GTA dont Because it s not proparly installed And why does the card hang using the XP drivers or Win k drivers its a mb Geforce And why dont Nvidia offer support None at all nbsp
Nvidia only supplies chipsets. Since they don't build the graphics cards, they don't support them.
I would check with the manufacturer of your video card and try the drivers from them. Usually the manufacturers tweak the drivers a little specifically for their cards.
I read on another forum site that a Nvidia Geforce GT630 with 1GB dedicated memory is better than a Nvidia Geforce GT620 with 2GB dedicated memory. Is this true, surely more memory would be a bigger advantage than the slight speed difference between models?
Usually higher models would perform better than their predecessors but there can be positives and negatives with both.
ZOTAC GeForce GT 620 2GB DDR3
Clock rate - 700 MHz

1. 630 has higher Clock speeds
2. 630 has bigger Memory Interface
3. Size of memory won't have much impact unless you're using a high resolution or multiple monitors
when turning on my computer it starts up goes to my desktop display is 32bit colour after about 5 seconds screen goes blank then comes on again but display is now 8bit colour.
I go into the display menu and change it back to 32bit wich is fine until windows has to re-start
it then goes back to 8bit.
Have taken the card out checked the contacts made sure everything is secure but it still happens on re-start
Has anyone any ideas what could be the problem do i need a new graphics card it about two years old
Sounds more like a driver issue. Have you uninstalled and installed the latest video driers for the card?
Latest driver can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html
Which appears to be done at this very moment.
You can try this site for the drivers: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1715
Make sure you use Add or Remove Programs to uninstall the current video drivers.
Is there anything that I need to do in order to make the switch easy do I have to uninstall drivers before I install the new card or what?
Yes, I would suggest that you uninstall ATI drivers & Catalyst Control Center(and anything to do with ATI) prior to installing the new card. After that it's an easy switch, install the graphics card, the latest Nvidia drivers, sofware & utilities, and you're good to go.http://www.sevenforums.com/software/176201-going-ati-nvidia-graphics-card.html
Hi I just bought a new nvidia graphics card it was a GT geforce I wanted to install it but I had a few problems it needed an extra power source comming from the power box to power the card computer startup not windows but right when I press the power button un reconization details The graphics card that I bought came with a supplemental Graphics Nvidia card power cord that I had to Nvidia Graphics card connect to the computer the cord has to directly connect to the power box I can t connect directly to the powerbox I found female connectors from the power box they are all whole large connectors and the one from my graphics card is only hole small FEMALE connection if you haven t caught on female and female connectors don t connect so is there anyway of connecting the powerbox to the graphics card because I m guessing it should be that missing connection that causes stress on the mother board which slow boot the computer powers on when I press the on button but makes that sound like it s going up and down on a rollercoaster if you don t get what I mean then it s like vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv oh loses power again vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv again vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv oh come on vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv resumes normal operation finally it boots up this is what the boot process Nvidia Graphics card is like please excuse my bad sense of logical order Sorry to the fourm admins that they had to endure that am I breaking one of this fourm s rules explained in my linux OS does not reconize the card and only reconizes the old integrated card if you don t know what that means then it means that I can t take the graphics card out because it s built in the computer s motherboard again sorry to everyone for the exessive capitalization and sorry to the admins too hope someone can help me thanks in advance nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/nvidia-graphics-card.951115/
I am planning to get a new graphics card for new games such as Doom 3 and Halflife 2.
I have always had nvidia cards, but I hear that the new ati cards are also great.
Can anyone tell me which card is better and why?
What features does one have that the other doesn't?
I was thinking of either a Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb, or a GeForceFX 5900TD 128Mb.

Hi: Make sure you are booting from a USB 2 port. You won't be able to install Windows from a USB3 port. If you have the W10 installation media in a USB 2 port, windows may be looking for the sata controller driver, so see if this works... Download the drivers from this link below (first or second file listed -- 1st file listed (64 bit). https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders. With the flash drive and W10 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W10 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W10 will install.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/envy-phoenix-810-160-trying-to-install-Win10-after-BSOD-and/td-p/5596365

I was told that I could hook up two VGA monitors to my new Envy Phoenix 850se desktop. This machine has the NVIDIA GTX 745 video card. I was told that I could hook up one monitor through the VGA port and then use a DVI to VGA adapter to hook up the other monitor. Maybe I am blind or dense but I do not see a VGA port on my machine. It came with the DVI to VGA adapter so I can hook up one monitor. What am I missing here?
Hi, Envy Phoenix 850se is a series of many products/options: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/desktops/hp-envy-phoenix-850se-desktop-pc-n0x16av-aba-1 Therefore you need a right option to have right ports. In short: what you were told was half true depending which option you picked. In a month I am planning to upgrade my gpu from Amd radeon r9 270 to Asus Strix GTX 1070. I know this is a big upgrade. I don't know if the gpu is fully compatible. I know that the MOBO is compatible but I need help if the power supply is enough and if the size is too big. My power supply 500W. Will it be enough for the new gpu? I don't know its brand but it came with my HP envy Phoenix 810-200nc desktop. And will the gpu fit inside my case? Please help, I can not figure out if its compatible.
First I would cut a piece of cardboard to 11.73 " x 5.28 " and try to fit it into the space. The 500W PSU seems OK based on this review.
