I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Anyway, yes it is and I personally don't think its worth upgrading your processor, nor buying a gtx 480. Probably be cpu choked either way.

Hi,I would NOT recommend such an upgrade. You need a new mtb, heat sink and the cpu. That's a lot's of money as it's very hard to get a RELIABLE product from eBay or Alibaba. I don't think HP have it in stock and if it could like 400 for a new mtb.

Dell PCs have custom cases and motherboards, not standard ATX components, so if you want a motherboard that fits that case that doesn't have the graphics chip built into it, Dell should be able to provide you with one.

But that graphics card might not solve your gaming problem on its own, because the Celeron is an economy processor mainly used for office uses and Internet access.

The Celeron D has a dual-core, which means two processors housed in a single unit, but there aren't any games that can use both cores out yet.

Ask Dell which Intel Pentium 4 processors the new board can run and buy one as well. Ask Dell if you can buy it from a third-party supplier, because Dell charges more for components than most third-party vendors.

The asus p4gpl-x is about the best you can get for a micro atx socket 478 board. The problem is finding one for sale, I couldn't locate any for sale in the us, maybe you'll have better luck finding one.
Any matx board will fit in the dell 3000 case. The front panel connectors won't line up properly, but you can modify the connector so that it will work with the help of the board's manual and a little wire tracing. The front usb/audio may not be compatible with a replacment board as well. I'd suggest getting a 350-400w psu. Here're two good yet cheap psus.

I'm not sure what budget you have, but good bang for the buck cards would be the 6600gt, 6800gs, and 7600gt. If you can afford it, then go for the 7600gt.

Hi friends,
I've an AMD 3000+ 64bit processor mounted on a K8MM-V motherboard from MSI.
This MB supports DDR RAM, and now a days DDR is getting more & more expensive compared to DDR2 RAMs.

Thus I'm thinking of upgrading the MB which supports DDR2 RAM, while retaining the processor.

Now I've a few doubts on it:

Is it possible to do so?
Does the newer MB which support the new processors, like X2, etc are also compatible to this older Athlon 64bit processor?
Can someone give me a link where I can find for compatible motherboards to my processor and also support DDR2 RAMs?

Moreover, any other tips in this regard would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Motherboard upgrade for AMD 3000+ 64bit

For ddr2 support you need an am2 socket board. There are no socket 754 boards with ddr2 support. In fact socket 754 boards are getting somewhat scarce as well.

I think it is time for an upgrade either to socket am2 [if you want to stay with amd] OR an intel socket 775.

My machine will crash( screen goes blank or multiple lines and emits a loud squealing noise. The only way to get out of it is to do a warm boot. But, like I said it is random and I do not know what is causing it. I have heard from other people that it might be a compatibility problem. If anyone could help it would be appreciated. Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

Hi everyone!

After some time and some money, I decided to bump my Celeron D 335 CPU and get a real AMD CPU.
So I chose the Athlon 64 3000+ Venice CPU. It should be a great boost over my old celeron CPU.
Now I need a motheboard for it. I found this one:

I dont mind about the microATX form factor. I dont have a SINGLE PCI card.
The motherboard has a good chipset and a good integrated video.
Please keep on mind that my budget is limited, because I was planning to get a cedar mill celeron, and then I decided to get an AMD because theyre better for gaming.

What do you think about this?

PD: I really like AMD now!!

HP Pavilion 4440 - 333MHz system. My computer started making a grinding noise, and when I took off the cover, I traced it to the CPU fan, which runs some, but not 100%, and is getting louder.

I recently added some RAM by removing the power supply and worming my way into the slots, but the fan replacement will be impossible from this angle.

How do I get to the motherboard on this beast? The "side" of the "box" looks almost impossible to open. Can someone tell me if there is a trick to getting into this thing?

A:Help Upgrading Dell Dimension 3000- motherboard and graphics card

You should mention your budget, and the aim of this upgrade.

Unfortunately, the 478 CPUs are now becoming bottlenecks in the computer. Upgrading your graphics will see a performance increase, but don't bet on a really huge one. Also, Expect to pay a premium for AGP8X graphics cards which perform better than budget range. If you're up for the biggest AGP8X card, the X1950pro would be it, but there's a review somewhere which showed it doesn't perform much better than a 7600gs because of the CPU bottleneck.

Personally, the 6600gt is probably the sweet spot, maybe an X800XT, but not much more than that. Even then you'd be paying a premium for the AGP8X versions of those cards.

If you're after anything cheaper than the 6600gt, it wouldn't be worth your trouble IMO.

Of course, if you decide to switch over to PCIe, you may still be able to use your RAM by getting the E4300, coupled with a board which will support DDR RAM and PCIe 16x. These boards don't come easily though, but here's a couple from newegg....

It shouldn't come out to be much more expensive this way, because the savings from your graphics card (PCIe versions are alot cheaper) would go into the new processor.

Besides, you can sell the processor.

Of course, I'd recommend going all the way, but I'm aware of budget restriants... all you need for a full blown c2d system is DDR2 RAM.

Oops, forgot to mention about the powersupply, you can barely run good graphics cards on 250W powersupplies. I'd recommend you getting at least a 400W. That should do the trick unless you're going to spend quite abit on your graphics card...

A:Can you replace the graphics card from hp pavilion 17e073ed

Hi: There are no removable, replaceable, upgradable graphics 'cards' in your notebook. The graphics is all part of the motherboard and in order to upgrade the graphics, you would have to see if there is a motherboard listed in the maintenance and service guide for your notebook that has better graphics. Replacing the motherboard would be a costly and labor intensive project.

What are the steps to replace the keyboard on a HP Pavilion dv6000 series notebook? Cannot find any videos on this subject.

A:how do I replace the keyboard on HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 5-23 to 5-29. Remove the battery and there are screws in there that allow removal of the button strip plastic piece above the keyboard after you flip it back over. Once that is off it is pretty self-explanatory and the pictures show the process.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Out of anger I recently hit my laptop causing it to break the hard drive. I think it was the only component effected. I tried taking the back off to see the dimensions and if I could replace easily or not. Just wondering if I need to replace it (my laptop won't start up) a good replacement HDD to buy, whether or not I should do it myself and if theres any way to take the back panel off. Thanks

A:Replace Hard Drive HP Pavilion 15-n096sa

It's not a back panel. You come in from the top down removing the top cover.  Your Service Manual Start on p. 63. You can use any 2.5 inch wide SATA drive whether mechanical or solid state as long as it is 7 mm or 9.5 mm thick. Almost all are, What country do you live in? We can certainly help you locate the drive, but then there are issues surrounding software reinstallation.  If you are more "visual", we can also help you find a video showing hard drive replacement. This is not a super easy procedure so you need to honestly assess your tech skills and just sayin' maybe an anger management assessment, too. I am sure the laptop did not deserve what it got or maybe it did.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

My system is 4 years old.

The motherboard is a MSI - MS 6585
Chipset SiS 648
ATX Form Factor.
CPU - Socket 478 for P4 processors (Willimate 478 and Northwood 478)
with 400/533 MHz (100/133Mhz QDIR)

Mine is a 2.8 GHz

I have 1GB of RAM - PC2700

I cannot seem to find a replacement mobo.

This is my first time changing a mobo.

Because my CPU and chipset are as above - am I restricted to what
replacement board I buy?

In other words, do I have to locate a motherboard with the
exact specs as my old board has?

Or can I upgrade to a more modern one.

I'm really in the dark here - any help would be appriciated.

Thanks, Stephen

I just ordered a new Asus A7V333 motherboard and would like to replace my old ECS motherboard myself.

I know how to physically remove the old one and put in the new one but what I'd really like to know is if I need to delete any or all drivers that pertain to the old motherboard (audio driver and such).

Any other advice to make the transition any smoother would also be greatly appreciated.

Sure its possible.

What processor are you looking to upgrade to? If you are upgrading to a p4, you should make sure your mobo supports that processor. Give me a little more info on what you are trying to upgrade to. Do you have the mobo book. It should say what processors it supports.

you have another post stating that you want to get another socket-754 processor for you existing motherboard.

now this post states that you want to get a new mobo too?

honestly I would not suggest getting another processor for a socket-754 system because it will still be bottlenecked by the slower hypertransport bus and single channel ram.

if you still want to use your AGP card and still have the ability to uprade to PCI-E in the future, consider this mobo I used it myself until a month ago and it worked great. and it has gotten very good reviews. it also lets you upgrade to AM2 when it eventually is worth it to do so (i.e. K8L)

Only ram, display andpower switch. Seller advised me to use single-sided ram. I think this is not the problem. Are there any solutions for this, I don't fancy losing all of my files.

A:Motherboard and CPU replace - will not boot

If you didn't prepare the drive before the move and also Repair install fails, your options are getting limited. What I would do is install another drive and put your OS on it with a clean install. Then, take the drive with your data on and put it in there as a slave so you could get your data off.

A:Think I've damaged motherboard - how to replace?

You'll have to get the exact same motherboard, which means going back to Dell or buying one on eBay. Putting non-Dell boards into a Dell can be tricky and you are not allowed to use the Dell Windows XP license with anything except the mainboard that comes or is an approved replacement for the system.

But have you tried to clear the CMOS? There should be either a button, switch, or jumper to do this. Check the Dell site. And make sure the IDE just isn't disabled in the BIOS or set to None as that can happen.

You can also add a PCI IDE controller card to replace the IDE on the mainboard.

I bought a motherboard for C55B (price was good, good), motherboards C50B found were too expensive. I installed it without problem. This card has no outlet to the fan (I saw it when I bought). This is the first time I see it. I started to test this C55B running but the fan does not start because not connected.
Two questions:
1-Have you seen already motherboards without taking fan on laptops? If so, which then connects to the fan?
2-I took the decision C50B (what I had expected when I bought) and I welded in the space provided on the C55B. I started. Everything is good but the fan does not turn on (the fan is good and my welds too). Opinions?

A:Y470 - Any chance to replace motherboard by myself...

If you are comfortable working inside your laptop then there really isn't any reason not to replace the motherboard.  Just take your time and keep track of all the little screws and where they go.  Personally, I use a muffin tin to keep all the various screws separate.  I mark each bin on the tin with a brief description of where the screws go, example: back cover, keyboard, palm rest, etc.  Also take care when unplugging the various cables.  Some of the connectors on the ribbon cables have different types of release latches. Some slide in while others may flip up.   Your videos will be of assistance with those.
I sure you have it already, but if not here is a link to your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual.  The manual not only offers dis-assembly instructions, but has additional tips and pre-cautions to follow.'s%20guides%20and%20manuals/Y470Y570/Lenovo%2...

Hey to all the people seeing this! First of all thanks for viewing this thread ^^

Right, You may have seen my posts about a faulty motherboard not giving video, If not then it doesn't matter to much because this is the story:
I needed to replace a motherboard as the old one was bad.
The New motherboard came, Still no Video, Dead motherboard
Sending the faulty one back for a refund

NOW heres the dilemma:
I can't find the motherboard again so I'm going to replace it with another ones (make/model not yet decided) But how do I go about installing the drivers for the new one? I've searched Google yet the only thing I could find is being able to boot up the computer to un=install the old ones? Is there anyway to do this without booting it up prior to installing the new MOBO? Many thanks, Mark ^^

Hello,        Just wondering if it's possible to replace the motherboard of my laptop with a higher one? Or just the video card with a GTX and not a GT. Thanks in advance. Acer Aspire V15 Nitro (VN7-571G-73ZJ) Intel Core i7-5500UNvidia GeForce GT 940M8GB DDR3L

A:Replace/Upgrade motherboard and video card?

video card is possible but more is not feasible, however checks your video card it is not welded, if welded is not possible to change the video card and if not welded still have more of a problem, you should check your motherboard supports other type of plate to be installed and also if the driver will be compatible with your motherboard. Already the motherboard if the same model that its possible e yes replace the motherboard to get a good upgrade, Best Buy and even better that is more viable. I have helped (Used Translator)

I have a seven year old presario 2511EA laptop. She works but she is slow. Norton 2010 running on it does not help. Is there any to speed her up such software, changing cpu speeds ( currently 2.4Ghz P4) or replacng either memory, cpu or whole motherboard ?

A:Should/can I replace motherboard/memory/CPU Presario 2511EA

Motherboard replacements that fit that case are also slow. You are limited by the maximum of 1 GB of pc2700 memory in two 512 MB modules... and it is the memory that makes the biggest difference... Not the CPU speed.
You cannot find a motherboard that will be faster and still fit all the ports and plugs on the case... There are some mighty decent laptops that will be much faster and run at least 2 GB of memory that would be a better choice... Dell, some Acer, Lenovo, Asus... as well as newer Compaqs or HP's.
Prices will be low for the rest of the summer after high school and college graduations are over... and some sellers will give you a significant discount to reduce inventory. The prices will go back up, but with new models that are faster and run 4 GB of memory or more.
Treat yourself to a Windows 7 machine with the potential to run 4 or 8 G B of memory... a quality build will last you anlother seven years.

title says it.

the motherboard is a pci express ht2000. I want to upgrade to a 500w power supply, but I've read that certain motherboards will only have room for 20 power connectors and certain power supplies may not work because of that.

In short, I've searched a lot to no avail trying to find out if I can upgrade my power supply. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

A:I want to replace power supply, not sure if motherboard is compatible

Is it an AMD board? AMD SW300?

In any case, replacement power supplies often come with both types. But you could always count them, too.

What if I replace the motherboard with the exact same model BUT change processors? Will I have any issues?
Was in the process of updating the bios. Not sure what I did wrong but it's dead. Have to send it back to super micro. I ordered an identical motherboard. But was updating the bios so I could switch from a quad core westmere chip to a hex.
Everything I have read states the OS is married to the motherboard (Win7 64 OEM). So if I get away with no issues from the motherboard swap, will the processor swap give me issues.
My system is a dual boot ubuntu 64/Win7 setup. I don't want to reinstall if I can help it. Advice would be appreciated.

(thanks admins for correcting this. Didn't mean to hijack that other thread)

A:Replace motherboard with exact same model BUT change processor?

you should not have any problems with Win7 even if its an OEM version. MS can reset if you have to call don't worry, just call them and explain what happened they are not going to crawl through the phone line and tear your head off or anything.

Anybody knows or have tried changing your motherboard model DV2000 series DV2022TX part number 417035-001 with 417036-001? My motherboard has a GPU problem nvidia, so i'm thinking if i can replace with motherboard 417036-001. Since 417036-001 is using intel chipset rather than 417035-001 is using nvidia GPU which has a lot of problems with blank screen etc.

I was experimenting with my brothers desktop It seemed need find corrupted motherboard? new chip or do replace to BIOS a I like it was running well Still one of his drives an SATA Samsung wasn t displaying it s icon on the my computer screen that shows you which devices are attached Either he accidently shorted the drive cause he refused to use a surge suppressor Still the main drive worked o k Sadly his desktop was purchased used So the seller had no recovery disks or an original Vista Pro operating system disk in the event the files became corrupt I recall his system started having problems after I installed HandBrake to convert video to mp I also installed DVD to decrypt movie discs I m not sure if those warez were compatible with Vista My brother had installed an EVGA gtx PCI-e graphics which BIOS corrupted do I need to replace chip or find a new motherboard? I updated the drivers for it He mainly wanted it for gaming and editing video I BIOS corrupted do I need to replace chip or find a new motherboard? had read that updating the bios chipset drivers could increase performance and eliminate hardware incompatibilities I think his OS was an OEM version which sucks Finally using my neighbors Wi-Fi I went to the chipset maker to update his motherboard chipset drivers and or bios update or firmware i m confused The site had an BIOS corrupted do I need to replace chip or find a new motherboard? online updater to assist with the install The motherboard developer was MSI so I went directly to their site I knew there was risk updating the firmware but I decided to take the risk It started updating it automatically backed up the current bios firmware Then cautioned to proceed with the install It then went into a very awkward GUI screen the program initiated After that happened all functionality was lost no way to exit Some status bar was filling up So I let it run it s course for several hours I noticed on-screen some cheap colored bars some program text and the status bar seemed like it froze up I wasn t sure if it was still connected to the wifi network If my neighbor turned off his router or the adapter was still communicating Reason why I tried this method of updating Was because my brothers PC lacked a fully functional floppy drive There was no floppy drive installed I somehow felt that if I shutdown the PC it would be bricked I was right in bricked no video or post messages or DOS like screens I could turn it on but not shut it down I had to switch the power supply main switch to off So then I thought would replacing the mother board with the exact same model and connecting the hard drive and other components allow the PC to boot into Windows Vista or can the bios chip be reprogrammed The board no longer is sold by MSI it s a P Neo MS v Is it any easy task replacing the seated bios chip And if I managed to replaced or have installed by a skilled technician would the OS recognize the motherboard and bootup Since it s an OEM it could detect the chip and unauthorize access unless someone hacked the system That I could never do myself nbsp

Sounds pretty bad...You would need to swap out the bios chip with a working one temporarily.

Looks like I'm gonna need to replace the mobo and I need some guidance on how to remove the liquid-cooling apparatus. The heatsink has some copper tubing that carries the coolant to and from the "radiator" which is located in the higher compartment. There must be a trick to it. I have searched but cannot seem to find a manual.

Can anyone here help me with this?

My Laptop is out of warranty and does not power on. No response to any attempt to start it.
I approached Dell Technical Support which guided me to go to local technician. He could not repair the laptop.
Then I went to Authorized Dell Service Centre in Gurgaon, India. There after initial diagnostics I was informed that the PPID tag on the motherboard was missing and so they can not replace the motherboard. I approached them again and verified with the Technical support yet no help.
The only solution offered was to sell the laptop when a simple replacement can easily solve the issuee. All this is being prevented by a small piece of PPID tag gone missing!

I own a Vostro 3550 with i5-2410M, however the mainboard is apparently defective - the notebook is not starting anymore. Now I have the opportunity to buy a second Vostro 3550 and I intend to use the parts for repairing my own Vostro, however this one has only an i3-2310M CPU. Question: is the motherboard the same and I can use this for exchanging or have both version different montherboards?
Thanks and regards,Joachim
