I am trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Z240 SFF workstation but when I boot from the Windows 7 USB media, it does not show the HDD even though it is connected. it would be great if someone could help me out with this issue. Thanks in advance.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hello matt_william, If you are using a retail version of Windows 7 Operating System. You may have to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver while installing the OS. On the HDD partition windows, you will get LOAD DRIVER option, you have to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Please find below link to download Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8323799&swItemId=wk_156996_1&swEnvOid=405... NOTE: THIS ACTIVITY NEED TO BE PERFORMED ON ANOTHER UNIT. TO USE THE INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY DRIVER DURING A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved). 2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 3. Navigate to C:\SWSETUP\SP73487 and unzip "f6flpy-x64.zip" to a USB key for a 64-bit installation. 4. Use the newly created driver installation media during operating system setup to install the drivers. Once you copy the driver on another USB media, connect it with unit on which you are trying to install OS. Click on Load Driver and navigate to USB and install the driver. Once the installation is complete, You will be able to access HDD and will be able to install OS. I hope that answers your question. Hi all, I got a Z240 SFF workstation with a 512G HP Z Turbo Drive G2 intalled on M.2 slot as a boot drive. I recently add a 1.2T Intel 750 PCIe SSD on PCIe slot 4 for additional storage. However after the Intel 750 SSD was intalled, the computer began to shutdown automaticly after couple of minutes running. The issue will be fixed after remove the Intel 750 SSD. The system is running 64bit Win10, with Samsung NVMe Driver. The Intel 750 SSD can also be read and write when installed and Intel Data Center Tool shows that the SSD is healthy. I think the auto shutdown issue is related to overheating on 750 SSD. I am wondering if the motherboard of Z240 SFF is compatible with Intel 750 SSD. Does anyone have Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed on their Z240 SFF or any other Z Workstation? Thanks! I unable to install windows 7 64bit on my T5810 workstation. whenever i boot from OEM windows dvd the harddrive is not showing. i found the below link of tutorial but i don't have that drivers in my dvds.
where can i find this, i don't have my installation disc which comes with the machine.
waiting for you suggestion.
My hard drive crashed and I had to replace with a new one. I upgraded to Windows 10 and utilized HP website for the drivers. The problem is that some of my USB ports will not work and I'm getting 3 "Base system devices" 1 "PCI serial Port" and 2 "Unknown Devices" that will not install in my device manager. I tried all of the drivers on the web site and I cannot find the original discs that came with the machine. The rear USB devices and the hidden wireless keyboard/Mouse port are not working.
Hi: The PCI Serial Port needs this driver...You may have to manually intall this driver if the auto install didn't work for you before, by browsing to the driver folder from the PCI Serial Port>update driver>browse my computer for driver software>browse to C:\SWSetup\sp74499. Dear HP experts,Thank you for your time I need an advice to istall windows 7 Ultimate x64 on HP z420 workstation . I have tried alot but an error of ((No device driver were found)) is always shown.Just like the attached picture.Things i have do- changing sata mode from RAID+AHCI to IDE ......which is my only options-changing IDE sata mode from compatable to enhance- disabling EFI boot Sources-disabling legacy boot sources.all these steps lead me to one way, which is no device driver were found. in my best move the installing continue but without a hard drive shown to format or delete. Any AdviceThanks
If you have more than 1 disk in your system, and you have RAID+AHCI set, then you likely need to jump into the raid controller BIOS at boot time (by pressing "CTRL C" if i recall correctly) and define a virtual disk or VD (which can wipe existing data so be warned). Then when windows install loads, you will see the virtual disk that you have create earlier and can thus select this VD for the install to continue. This assumes the install media has the (chipset) raid drivers which i think is the case. If the install disk does not have the required (chipset) raid drivers, then you may need to place them on a usb drive and point the install to it using F8, at which point you will see your VD and can continue with the install. If it all sounds like too much, you can remove all but one HDD and then RAID function will not be relevant as it will fall back to simple AHCI. If you still don't see the lone HDD, try and add the chipset drivers using the F8 method. I had similar issues a while ago on my Z210 and solved it by using default BIOS firmware settings, then created a VD and lastly placed Intels RST driver, specifically the F8 driver on a USB and during the Windows install process pressed F* and pointed to the USB drive where the driver was seen and loaded at which time my VD was visable so all could continue.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Z420-Workstation-troubleshooting-in-Install-Windows/td-p/5580870

VMware workstation is at version 12.1 and can be installed Windows 10,8,or 7 64 bit only, They stopped making 32 bit versions of VMware Workstation at 10.1 and that can be installed on Windows 10,8,or 7 32 bit computers.
Yes you can run almost any version of Windows on it and also most versions of Linux, I think it is even possible to run Android 86 but I'm not sure I haven't tried Android yet

I know that network connectivity is not the issue; I need to make it possible for users to access the domain from that computer as quickly as possible to avoid losing profit for the company. I also do not want to create any issues for a third-party application that identifies computers by SID. What should I do?
I have ideas, but I don't know if any will actually fix the problem. PLEASE HELP.
-Reinstalling Windows on the computer and create a new account in the domain
-Rename the computer and create a new computer account with the new name in ADUC
-Reset the computer account in ADUC, move the computer to a workgroup and then rejoin it to the domain
-Move the computer to a workgroup then rejoin it to a domain.
what error are you getting? First thing I would try would be option 4 above.
I have't been able to find anything on this error and it is a first for me.
I am attempting to rename an XP workstation on My Network. When I go through the steps logged in as the Domain Admin, I end up with an error message that reads:
Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred:
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again.
I of course have re-booted the workstation several times and even re-booted the server. I don't see an open share for the PC or the Admin account in "open Sessions" on the server.
I am stumped at this point. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
TIA for any help in this matter.
I figured it out... appearantly there was a mapped network drive which was causing the error.
I'm running VMware 8.0.0 build-471780 Host OS Version: Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1
Everything was working fine then the vmcrashed and now when I rebooted them (I'm running 2, same specs) I can't get an internet connection.
I've tried all the connection settings to no avail.

When running an SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence to install Windows 10 on a Z240, the network driver is working in Windows PE during the download and apply Windows image. I'm using Auto Apply Drivers step and after it's completed, the computer restarts into the Windows 10 OS, tries to set up the devices and then the task sequence fails because there is no network driver detected that it can use. I've tried to import multiple types of network drivers from both HP and Intel with no success. I've tried to specifically apply the Z240 driver package instead of using Auto Apply Drivers with no success. I've also tried to install a Windows 8.1 image instead and it still fails at the same point. I'm confused because it works fine in PE, but not after restarting and booting into the Windows OS. kindly advise.........thanks with a star
p.s. maybe it has to do with partitioning with NTFS instead of FAT32
NT4 doesn't support FAT32 at all.
You will need to repartition if you have created a large FAT32 partition. Create the partitions from within the NT4 install and it will allow you to create the largest system partition it can support, which is about 8 Gb for NTFS, and 4 GB for FAT. You can then partition the rest of your HD as a data partition.

HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.
Are you really referring to the monitor drivers or the Dispay Adapter drivers? The symptoms you describe sound like the latter issue.
Monitor drivers are no big deal to install, and even if you don't, Windows should use compatible plug and play drivers. Still it's a good idea to install them -- but you get them from the Monitor vendor site. You get the Display Adapter drivers from the Display Adaptor vendor's site.
What Display Adapter model do you have? And are they properly installed?
To install a Monitor driver, you download and unzip the .inf file from the Vendor. Then you select "update driver" and browse to the location of the file you unzipped. Once installed your Monitor should be recognized by model number.
I recently did a clean install of Vista Home Premium x32 and upon completion am unable to connect to the internet. I received the following error: "windows unable to install ethernet controller." Upon accessing Device Manager, I noticed yellow exclamation marks associated with my network controller. I have an Acer Aspire 5536-5224 notebook. Windows could not locate the drivers on the machine and I cannot connect to locate. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure where to begin searching for the driver! Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

To install the update, Windows update will automatically close and re-open.
When I click 'Install now', the window disappears and I am then confronted with the following message:
Windows could not search for new updates
An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.
Code 800F081F Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
Does anyone know how I can get updates to work? Is there some way that I can manually download and install this update for Windows Update?
I'm guessing that your installation media already contained SP1, is that correct? Since this is a clean install my first thought is something happened during the installation process to damage or corrupt some system files. I'd try the Microsoft troubleshooter first.
Troubleshoot problems with installing updates - WindowsUpdate_dt000
If that doesn't work I'd try running the System Update Readiness Tool.
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
If still no joy, and only because this is a very recent clean install, I'd just reinstall Windows 7 again. If the problem persists I'd start looking into the possibility of a bad installation disk, hardware issues, etc. Please post back if any of this helps or not.
So long story short i was continuously getting notification to install some particular updates again and again .
They were : KB2446704 , KB2418241 , KB2539631 . ( All of them are security updates for .net framework 2.0 sp2 and 3.5 sp1)
So whenever i installed them and restarted my pc they used to show up again . So today i decided to download Windows install clean up utility and uninstall and reinstall .net framework 2.0 sp2 .I uninstalled but when i tried to install it again i couldn't . It showed as a " setup error " .
Also i have an windows xp sp3 .
Here's what I'd do, Caveat Emptor & all that stuff...1. Run the FixIt in KB 971187 - How to fix MSI software update registration corruption issues http://support.microsoft.com/kb/9711872. Retry the Update(s).3. If the Update(s) fail(s), proceed to Step 4.4. Download .Net Cleanup Utility: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx5. By using the Cleanup Tool, uninstall all .Net Framework entries. (You will not be allowed to remove the .NET Framework 2.0 on Vista and 3.5 on Windows 7 because they are Operating System components.)6. Reboot.7. Download and install the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 by clicking the link below (this will also install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2):http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en8. Reboot9. Check for & install all important/critical updates/security patches/etc (do not select any optional .Net updates yet) for .Net thru Windows Update.Hope this helps.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/451644/cant-install-3-windows-update-and-now-unable-to-install-netframework-2/
Hi All, I am going to buy a Nvidia Quadro 450 card built and packed for Hp systems, what I need is to know if there is any prerequisite or any compatibility issue for the installation of this card on my Z420 workstation, i.e. serial number on the card / workstation to look for ... etc . ? Any suggestion will be highly appreciated Best regardsA.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Hp-Z420-workstation-is-that-possible-to-install-a-Nvidia/td-p/5790136
After installing Widows 10 my workstation does not work... I would like to reinstall Windows 7... I don't know what keys to click to start the clean install process... HP does not have phone support, nor can I get into chat... I am desperate as I don't like using my laptop... TY, Lynne
Lynne_29 To reinstall Win7 on your workstation, you need genuine HP OEM Recovery Media, not a USB or DVD that was made from an ISO download, or purchased from Microsoft. Saying that because the HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, and the DVD set is bootable. To use that, all you do is insert the first DVD into the optical drive, close the door, and boot the PC. If you are using different media, we can not help with that.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Clean-install-on-my-HP-Z400-workstation/td-p/5714017
Was having problem with cdrom on NT 4.0 workstation. Could see that drive letter was assigned, but could not access drive. Physically uninstalled drive and attempted re-install but now not even a drive letter. Bought a new CD-RW drive to replace but am in the same place.
I followed installation procedures but could not see drive. I know that it has power, can open drawer and close drawer with a CD in it manually, but system does not see drive.
and Windows is giving me a message stating that it cannot install because there are no hard drives. The hard drives that are not in the Dell 450 Workstation are Seagate ST373453W
15K REV DX09 SYNC 3200 WIDE 16 73412 MB
I am wondering why XP is not sensing the hard drives even though the drives are showing in the information flashed across the screen before the initial press any key to install from cd
I have been having problems getting my windows updates to install on my computer. I am running windows xp and I keep getting the message that updates were not successfully installed. I have searched high and low for a fix for this and nothing that I do seems to work. It just started happening a few weeks ago.
Any help will be appreciated.
Using the DISM, restorehealth, etc.. all do not seems to work. Advise. Spend 3 days doing it... even reformatting and reinstall OS.http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/48103-net-3-5-unable-install-even-after-fresh-install-windows-10-a.html
I am a user of Winnt 4.0 Workstation & Win 2K Professional,
Whenever I am installing any application get a message
YOU DO NOT HAVE ADMINISTRATIVE PREVILEGES ON THIS COMPUTER PLEASE HAVE ADMINISTRATOR TO INSTALL THIS PROGRAM
How can I give a previleges to Other users to Load / Remove any Applications
There are a several ways. The easiest is to place each user in the administrators group. This could cause problems later when they accidentally make system changes that crash the PC. You could install using the SU (switch user) utility from the resource kit. This allows you to provide the administrator account and password for the installation without putting the user in the admin group (this requires you to be present or to provide the account and password to the user). Since I don't package many applications anymore, there are several members here that can better give you step-by-step instructions to do this.
I have Vista Ultimate (IIS Enabled), SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
(downloaded and ran the SP2 Update), Visual Studio 2008. VS2008
installs no problem. When I install SQL Server 2005, I get an error
when it trys to install the last part( Workstation Components,
Management Studio, etc).
I have tried FULLY, MANUALLY removing all SQL products and registry
entries. I have used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I have tried
Microsoft's recommended way of manually removing SQL Server 2005.
If I manually run SqlRun_Tools.msi the error comes up right away.
The error is:
"A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is

I have a Dell Insprion One All in One running windows 7. Recently I tried to preform a system restore but because I did not have the disk I tapped F8 when the computer was booting. From there I preformed the system restore. The problem that I am having is that when the computer turns on an error message appears saying that the windows installation was unsuccessful and that it will install after the computer is restarted. This happens even after the computer has been restarted. Any Ideas why this is?
Are you able to perform clean installation of Windows 7? If you don't have DVD ROM drive you can use flash disk.
If you are able, I suggest you to do so.
Downloads SP3 OK.
When I ask it to installWindows XP Service Pack 3
(KB936929) I get referred to troubleshooter which says "When accessing the Update site, you receive the 0x800A01AE error."
I dutifully try the proferred resolution of:
. Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
Unfortunately I get:
Documents and Settingsuser>regsvrwuapi.dll
'regsvrwuapi.dll' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Look at the command you typed...versus the command you should have typed . Seems that you forgot something, I'd suggest trying it again.
Urgent please reply!

This should be nice clean reliable download, Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help, it will also give you the option to create install media. I've had no issues using it on my UEFI laptops and legacy BIOS desktops. I had a similar issue trying to install Windows 10 on my desktop PC. After multiple attempts in desperation I tried installing from a DVD and it worked. Surprised me. One thing I noticed is it can take a long time for something to happen on the first boot to your install media. Just wait it out, look for drive activity. My screen goes black for a while but the activity led on my thumb drive flickers away.http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/64873-unable-install-windows-8-8-1-a.html

After select Custom - format and delete patition ,then click next ,it show"Setup was unable to use existing system partition because it does not contain required free space.
But the partition selected contain 185 gb
Check closely and I believe you'll find it created a 100mb System Reserved boot partition since you used the installer to create partition(s). Amongst other things, it will put your Repair Console available on the Advanced Boot Tools menu available by tapping F8 at bootup.
You can format that small partition once created, but then you need to use the down arrow or mouse to highlight the actual install partition underneath it, format it, then click Next to start install.
Try that to see if it helps.

I am unable to install Windows 8.1. I did perform the symbolic link trick to move my User directory from my SSD to my D: Hard Drive; which btw worked like a charm. I did NOT however move my Program Files directory, just my user directory. Should this cause a problem with the Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade? If so what is the process of unlinking the directories?

I have been trying to install Windows 7 SP1 (KB976932) but It doesn't work
Following the instructions from Microsoft (D?couvrir comment installer Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)), I started first to use Windows Update, but it doesn't offer to install the SP1...
So I downloaded "Windows 7 et Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)" from the MS download center (Download Windows 7 et Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center). I selected the 1.9 GB package ' 7601.17514.101119-1850_Update_Sp_Wave1-GRMSP1.1_DVD.iso ), but I can't execute it.
When I double click it, it proposes to burn it on a CD ROM!

Does your laptop meet system requirements for a 64-bit Windows? It'll need to have a 64-bit CPU.
What's the model number of the laptop?

I have a lenovo G530 laptop with 300Gig HDD and 3 GB RAM.
I had windows xp on it, however due to a virus, it crashed. For time being I started using Ubuntu O.S. The grub shows windows xp and the Ubuntu. When I click on Windows, it tries to load and then blue screen.
Now, I want to reinstall a windows xp on this machine, using my another laptop (dell) installation cd.
The setup starts and after it loads some drivers and tries to start windows setup, I get a blue screen saying that I either have virus or I need to format the HDD.
PS: My HDD is clean as Ubuntu doesn't complain about it. Can you please help?

By your system specs as far as the OS "windows 7 rc" would be the Release Candidate? which has expired in all forms. If that is a type and you have the Home Premium or other retail edition you may want to run a hard drive diagnostics just to insure the drive hasn't started seeing bad sectors appear.
Inspecting the 7 dvd itself from handling as well as the optical drive is also something to add to the list in the event a lens cleaner is needed or if the optical drive itself is having problem. A usb installation key then would become the option for seeing 7 installed fresh when booting from the flash drive install key. I've had a few optical drives belly up over the last few years between ddiferent builds and now mainly run with a usb key.
To see how a USB Install Key is made off review the guide seen at USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Do not select the "Quick" partition process.
Select the full partition setup. This can take 30 to 90 minutes depending upon the size of your drive.
I have a laptop that I can't install Windows 10 on. If I try to upgrade from Windows, I get 'setup failed to validate product key'. If I try to do a clean install from boot, it asks for the hard disk driver and doesn't display any disks. Weirdly, it does let me browse the hard disk for drivers.

If the drive is in RAID mode, you'll need the Intel Rapid Storage driver. Or, you can set the drive to AHCI mode and Windows 10 will install just fine that way without an added driver.
If you need the IRST driver, it's here:
This is needed by many appps which somehow when I tried to install (using many different approaches) it and it does for the past few months. Suggestions. not sure with such a slow processor you can do an xp install although I have xp installed on an Hp desktop with a 600 mhz processor,,,you may need at least 512Meg Ram too.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/unable-to-install-windows-xp-348477.html
I am using a P4 based computer with 256MB RAM. I don't have a UPS and the power supply is sometimes fluctuating. I have Windows XP SP3 CD with latest updates. I tried to reinstall Windows by quick formatting "C" drive with NTFS. When I tried to install, Windows Setup ran fine but uptil it said, "Setup will complete in about 35 minutes" (halfway to "installing devices"), and could not go beyond that. I have other two XP Cds with SP2, both of them also could no go further till it said, "Setup will complete in about 39 minutes". Is the problem due to the unstable power supply or because of the NTFS format? Please help.
I bought a new mobo and processor, and am currently having problems installing windows 7 (or xo or vista).
When attempting to install from CD, I keep getting the error "Insert boot media in selected boot device", with either XP, 98 SE, or Windows 7 in the DvD drive. My computer is recognizing my drive as the primary IDE master, with my secondary HD as primary slave, and my primary HD as a SATA device.
I have attempted to change drive recognition from IDE to ACHI, but no change.
I can always go back to my old mobo/processor and try to fresh install from there, switch to the new mobo and hope it works doing it that way, but that doesnt sound like it would (and the only reason I bought 7 was because I had to reinstall windows with the new mobo anyway).
Any help would be appreciated.
Do you have the bios set to boot to CD/DVD first?
Where did you get the Win 7 DVD?

I am not sure if this is the right forum for this but I have downloaded the Windows quot install on another PC quot program onto a USB drive I was loading Windows Home -bit for installation on a friend s computer I did the download on a computer that had particularly good internet speed then tried booting from the same USB on that computer It opened and went through the initial stages of an installation without any install to Windows USB from 10 Unable difficulty Then I took the same USB drive to my friend s computer and when we booted on it the windows picture icon showed Unable to install Windows 10 from USB on the screen and just sat there for multiple minutes without doing anything The computer is a Lenovo -bit computer currently loaded with Windows Home Premium We were trying to load the Windows on a spare partition for dual booting The response of the USB seems to have been a case of the autoplay not kicking in and the Windows program waiting for a response from us which we could not give Has anyone had any experience similar to this and do you have any suggestions Are there any Bios settings that might be wrong We went thrugh the various settings and were unable to identify any that might have any effect The Windows OS already on the computer is set to respond to autoplay for removable devices but that should be irrelevant since the installation procedure should never reach the Windows OS nbsp

Windows 7 SP1 (KB976932) was downloaded, by windows update. Now every time I restart my laptop, I get configuration failed error and the PC won't start.

I have also tried system restore, to the point created while installing SP1 but it does not help.
Can someone please guide, me how do I get rid with this SP1 without a fresh install?
For time being I can only enter my laptop in safe mode!
Have you tried verifying the Windows 7 files by using SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Instead of formatting, try removing the Partition fully
In Xp you do not need to create a Partition manually (as Windows install will do this for you)
In 98 you will need to create a Fat32 Partition, and make it active
