Q: CB5-571 won't start and out of warranty.

My 15" Acer Chromebook CB5-571 just died a couple of weeks past the warranty deadline. It was wonky when I first got it from the Play Store but the updates seemed to help. Now it just died and won't start. Where can we go for recompense on these defective machines? I'm not willing to shell out around 1/3 of the purchase price for a battery when I'm not sure that's the issue. Google Play is nice, but not when the machines they're selling are crap and nobody can own up to the issues.

Preferred Solution: CB5-571 won't start and out of warranty.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Best Buy sell a laptop three months after it was shipped Customer boots laptop on date of purchase nbsp and find three months of the for Date Start Warranty standard one year warranty has already gone I suggest this violates fair trading standards as all machines sold in retail stores are advised as coming with a month warranty I am also surprised this warranty does not allow the customer to call or even email technical support which leaves them with the choice if suck it and see takes it back to Best Buy and pay a quot geek quot to suck their teeth and say quot it will need to be returned to manufacturer quot or post on the forum Warranty date starts from date the laptop is purchased by the end user in sealed box not that date the retail store ordered the laptop Limited Warranty in effect translates to no warranty at all I have used Dells since I am shocked this company Start Date for Warranty no longer starts warranty from date of purchase i e first boot Start Date for Warranty nbsp nbsp

Apologies for an unpleasant experience. If the system is purchased from the retailer, the Dell limited hardware warranty would be active from the date you purchased the computer. If you are in US, system comes with a one year limited hardware warranty (by default). 

You may private message me the following information via private message (click my username and then click Start Conversation):

Service Tag of computer
Date of purchase
Country of purchase
Complete address with city, state and zip code
Phone number and alternate phone number. 

Once I have the details, I would be able to decide the next course of action.

Like so many others on this forum, my new HP Pavilion laptop has the wrong warranty start date.The laptop was only purchased on 11th January 2015. I have two issues. The first issue is that I purchased my Sprout on January 13, 2016 and when checking the warranty online it states that it started on November 6, 2015. I have read other forums about this being a known issue and I would like this fixed immediatly.  Secondly, I have just set up and started my new Sprout today. (It took a while because we just bought this house and wanted to make sure we had the office set up before we set up the Sprout.) The speakers DO NOT work. I have done everything that I could possibly think of to make them work and still nothing. I am currently on hold with HP Customer Service and have no spoken to a rep yet. I have been on hold for 15 minutes so far. Can someone please HELP me! Thank You

Brooklynn429, welcome to the forum. Here is a answer to how to deal with the difference in the waranty start date: We have a PoP process setup for this. Proof of Purchase. We don't have access to sales systems for everything we've sold through our partners and retailers so we have to use the good old fashion Proof of Purchase system. The customer simply sends (fax I think is the current method) us the receipt and we update the warranty status. That simple. I guess it goes without saying that they need to contact support for this. You will have to contact HP Customer Support to get this accomplished. As for your sound, I suggest going into the Control Panel / Sound to see if the speakers are selected as the Default.  Sometimes in Win 10 the settings are changed for no apparent reason. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I purchased a notebook on 02/08/2015 but when I checked the website today it says that the warranty started on 06/30/2014 and ended on 08/03/2015. I have the receipt which clearly shows the purchase date. How can this be fixed. Thanks.

AAAAGGGHHHH somebody please help. 255 G3 notebook purchased November 2015. Warranty staus show expired in 2014. Have been all over the website to try and update this but cannot find any information anywhere. social media is proving to be very frustrating too. HP's website has got to be the worst ever. Hi: The same thing happened to me too. Call this number and explain the situation.    1-800-334-5144  The customer services rep will send you a link to upload a copy of your invoice or sales receipt showing the purchase date. Once they get that, they will adjust the warranty start and end dates accordingly. I seem to recall they adjusted mine within 3 days of getting the receipt info I scanned to them.

Like so many others on this forum, my new HP 250 G4 Laptop has the wrong warranty Start and Finish dates. The laptop was purchased just two days ago on the 8th JULY 2016 from Tesco Direct.  However the Start Date of the warranty check is showing as 22-Feb-2016 with an End Date of 23-Mar-2017. Obviously I would like this corrected, the machine is still unused and unopened should I need to return it due to this Warranty issue. I have downloaded my Invoice as Proof of purchase from Tesco. Thanks in advancesparky

I have bought this HP laptop on 6/2/2016 and started using this on the same day. At the time of purchase I was informed the product comes with 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. As the title suggests - my invoice specifically says 3yrs warranty was purchased with my M3800 in November 2014. I'm now showing as out of warranty after 2yrs

I have just bought a HP larpto and the speakers are faulty. I know this because when I plug in earphones the sound is good but with just speakers it is no good. how do i report this to HP ?? Help please. HP Support Assistant changed overnight and now shows Warranty Expired and date Dec 2015 when I bought the PC. Expiry date should be 3 December 2016.Have sent HP Warranty Dispute form and evidence of purchase (twice). No response. Have used Assistant Agent twice and was very pleased with excellent service. Because warranty is out of date, according to HP, contact with them is limited and try as I can I have been unable to get a phone call through to customer service (its always busy!). I have even contacted HP  Head Office who gave me the same phone number and a complaints e- mail address which turned out to be in South America! Message on HP Support Assistant  received today asks me to continue  warranty by paying for 2 year cover. Have paid for this today and hope this will sort situation. Meanwhile who can I e mail at HP in the UK to resolve this?

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 17 7778 laptop last week. But the service warranty information is incorrect on Dell support web page. The ship date is January 01, 0001, the country is unknown and the warranty service is missing. Please fix it.

If this is the same system you asked about in your other threads, it was purchased outside Dell's sales channel in a country where Dell has no corporate presence --  all service, support and information comes from your seller.  
From the sound of it, the system either has a bogus service tag or was purchased as greymarket goods.

How can I update my graphis card without voiding my warranty

So, my HP Envy x360 has a screen problem that I described in an earlier post, but the situation that I am in currently is that around February, I contacted HP to get a box to send my laptop back and get it repaired in. Now, I couldn't send it back at the time because I needed it every day for classes. So, I decided to wait until the end of the school year, not thinking that my warranty expires in April . Hi I bought a display unit of AiO at the Singapore COMEX 2016 1 week ago. Sales rep told me there's on site 3 years warranty given by HP but when I set up the unit and there was a pop up warranty indicating the warranty period only covers 1 year.And the registration was done by the retailer when the pc was put on display in the event. Please advise what I can do to obtain the 3 years revised status? System is a dell studio xps 435mt/ os 7 premium/ I7 CPU/ 8 gigs of ram/ ati video card just replaced 3 months ago/ hitachi deskstar 500g hd/power supply delta 360w.

Had no error messages. Was running fine, it had a few glitches but nothing serious. I attempted to power up the system but nothing , it has power the green light is on for the power supply.. I get one amber light when i press the power button on front panel, and one flicker of the red light on the video card.

This system is only 2 years old. The warranty expired on it's second birthday, which was the day after the warranty ran out.

Warranty is 1 year from first retail sale. Either the seller sold you a laptop previously sold or it sat on his shelf for a long time. Keep the receipt as you may need it to prove when you bought it. The date in the HP system is automatically generated based on wholesale delivery plus an average shelf time.

If the battery is original to the system, it's between 4 and 5 years old - and likely well past its design life.  A "refurbished" system of that model is not the same as a "refurbished" new system - was it purchased direct from Dell, or elsewhere?

Hi! I have a quick question, my laptop came with a mechanical hard disk which i would like to replace with a solid state.The problem is that there is a sticker saying "Warranty void if label tampered with or removed" covering one of the screws. The end date of warranty is until Jul 2017. What i should do? Why HP is doing this really? I never owned a laptop which was impossible to upgrade the ram or the hdd...

contact who you purchased it from and see what they can do. they should have records of the transaction. if you purchased it with a charge card you could contact them also for any record of the purchase.

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Hello everyone, yesterday I brought a new HP laptop and I wish to install a SSD with a caddy, replacing the DVD reader.  My question is, if I do this replacement, the warranty will be invalidate? I purchased an Inspiron 7359 2-in-1 from Amazon on Sept 30, 2016.  When I registered the product the Service Assistant showed that it was purchased on Feb 1, 2016 and that my warranty would expire on May 2, 2017.  How do I get my warranty extended to the correct 1 year coverage as stated on the Dell web site?  I have tried to contact support in several ways and have had no luck.  example:  when trying to email, the form keeps telling me to input my phone number in phone number format but will not accept any format I tried and, therefore, I cannot complete the email and submit it.  I'm hoping someone from Dell monitors the forums and will offer some help.  Or if anyone else has had this issue, how was it resolved.  Thanks.

If the system was purchased direct from Amazon itself, all you need to do is register the date you purchased the system with Dell (see link):

There are however, many vendors with storefronts on Amazon -- if you purchased from a reseller with an Amazon storefront, you may need to go back to the seller so that vendor can initiate a transfer of warranty.  There are many sellers out there that provide "grey market" goods that are not sold through authorized channels.  Hopefully yours isn't one of them, since it's not uncommon for Dell to deny warranty on non-authorized sources.

I contacted Asus support for warranty claims for a friend as his motherboard was faulty and was within the warranty period. Hi, I can not understand to what date will the warranty valid in my notebook just purchased in Italy.
The seller tell me that it be covered only for two years.

Got a samsung nc10 netbook that has been bsod for a couple of days It originally had XP on but i installed win 7 a couple of weeks ago. Im almsot certain it is a hardware problem so im sending it back to samsung for 'repairs' however, will they void the warranty or blame the fact that ive put win 7 on it as the cause? I dont have a win7 COA on the base as its stuck to the side of my pc so there is only the XP COA on netbook.
so basically, does it matter that ive put win 7 on it? should i try and put xp back on it before it goes off to them? advice appreciated, thankyou!

Normally your warranty is no longer valid if you change / add hardware. Upgraded OS should in my opinion not void your warranty.

Hello,

I have a new Acer mini desktop which I use as an HTPC running Win 8.
I just bought it a week ago and I still haven't registered it for mafucaturer's warranty coverage because I have to wait until the store warranty is over (otherwise they won't accept the item for return or exchange if it is registered to Manufacturer).
Anyways, it has 4 RAM slots (16GB max RAM) and only 2 so far are used (4+4GBs). If I added 2 more RAM cards to it (upgrade RAM myself), would it void the manufacturers 1 year warranty?

Hello Seven Forum,
Had a PC built last year and is still under warranty. Need to take back as their is Hardware problems. Found this out doing a Memory Diagnostic Test. The question I wish to ask is that I have 2 internal hardrives and 1 external drive. 1xSSD & 1X mechanical HD inside. I have backedup all my documents,music and photos on the external HD but what else do I need to do as I am not comfortable handing over my PC with other stuff such as personal contacts and emails. Hope someone can help.

Are you worried about actually losing something or are you worried about someone snooping into your contacts and emails when you'd rather they didn't?

Your email and contacts are likely on your C drive. You could back them up as well. Also bookmarks. Where that stuff is depends on what browser and email you use.

You could actually remove any non-operating system drives if necessary---unless that might somehow cause a warranty issue.

I can understand your reluctance. I'd probably remove hard drives when possible, even if I had the stuff backed up.

Your warranty is one year from retail purchase. HP puts in a placeholder date based on when the laptop was made but sometimes they sit on the shelf for a while. If you actually have a warranty problem it will be 1 year from purchase. Keep your proof of purchase documents and register your laptop with HP.

Hi: The info you are referring to means 1 Year parts, 1 Year labor, and 0 Years on site service. My HP business desktop PC's have 3y/3y/3y.   3 years parts, 3 years labor and 3 years on site service.  In other words, the techs will come to my house to fix my PC for up to 3 years.

I have a virus in my laptop, and I still have warranty on it till September. I just wanna ask if I will get a new laptop if I give them my prove of warranty and laptop? And if not, what do I need. Help pls :^)

I'm having issues doing a clean install on this PC. It seems it comes with Windows 8 installed and another tech downgraded it to windows 7. I was then told to do a clean install on it and pulled the cd key with a program and installed Windows 7 Pro with a ISO I have. Now it won't activate the key saying it is invalid. I have the CDs coming from HP that I guess might help but I need this PC working today really. Is the key it pulled really a windows 8 key and just said 7 since that what was installed when I used the program to pull it? What are my options to get an active key?

Because the computer came pre-installed with Windows 8 the key is embedded in firmware. You can download the media creation tool here. You will need to download it using a Windows 7 or 8 computer.
 
Follow the clean install steps here. If you need data off the drive you can pull it using a live linux disk like FatDog64 or Hirens CD. You may need to disable SecureBoot in BIOS but I believe it has already been disabled if you are booting Windows 7. When you get to the Window asking for the Windows 8.1 key do not input anything and click Next. Windows 8.1 will self activate when online. 
 
If you cannot click next then use one of these generic keys depending on what version of 8 was on the computer.

The key you pulled may be for Windows 7. You can verify it using this utility. When you input the key what is listed under Edition Type?

Hello, I had a failing hard drive that was replaced in warranty just a couple of days ago. However the hard drive that was installed on my computer is not a new one - CrystalDiskInfo reports it has been turned on 450 times. Is that a normal policy to send refurbished hardware as replacements?  Also, I've noticed the hard drive does an unfamiliar clicking sound when beign used. (and since it's the same hard drive as I've had before, I assume the usual working sound should be the time, which it isn't)Check disk and CrystalDiskInfo don't show any errors though, so I'm not sure if it's a bad sign or not? I will definitely take it to the authorized repair shop that did the HDD replacement but I still thought I'd ask here. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I purchased a brand new Lenovo Edge 2 - 1580 Laptop from Bestbuy while I was at West Palm Beach, Florida, USA. The Serial Number of the Laptop is R90HPBVZ and Model Number is 80QF0004US. I travelled back to India. Everything went on fine until one day, when I heard a craking sound on the hinges while I was closing my laptop. Two screws came out broken. The touch panel got removed from the back panel and is almost hanging. The covers that are over the hinge region came out. Currently, the laptop is working fine, yet I cannot close the laptop. Kindly find attached photos for immediate reference.????I am currently in Chennai, India. Hi All  I was wondering if anyone happened to know the difference between a caseID that is being coverered by warranty and a case not being covered by warranty.  I was told a few years ago if the case starts with 4** it is a warranty job if it starts with 5** it's not covered by warranty. I'm not too sure about the numbers though,  thanks all
