I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Aspire S with a GB BIOS from Storage gone Technology Rapid Intel SSD The SSD is seen in the laptop as two GB drives and is nbsp configured in RAID as default At one point the RAID failed and I tried to factory reset but the laptop wouldn't get into the recovery-mode pressing ALT F and all variations of ALT CTRL F-buttons so I reinstalled manually with Intel Rapid Storage Technology gone from BIOS a USB nbsp In BIOS both drives are seen as GB but in Windows only the one drive I installed on is seen as GB the other one is still seen as the RAID-drive GB It's not usable since I have to format it first but I don't dare to do that I can see that Intel Rapid Storage Technology gone from BIOS the recoverypartition is still on this but since RAID being RAID I'm assuming that all data on this ghost-partition is not usable in any way nbsp When starting the laptop I get the Intel Rapid Storage Technology prompt press CTRL I and it's saying that the RAID has failed listing both drives partitions one of them as Intel Rapid Storage Technology gone from BIOS a member and the other one the one I reinstalled Windows on not as a member So I deleted that configuration and thought I'd recreate it and reinstall Windows again But when I deleted the configuration I can no longer access Intel Rapid Storage Technology at all the prompt never comes up It just boots straight into Windows Pressing CTRL I at startup gives nothing probably because IRST isn't loading at all nbsp I'll assume that the recoverypartition is gone forever since I already reinstalled on one of the partitions but I'd like to at least get RAID working again nbsp nbsp TL DR - Intel Rapid Storage Technology uninstalled itself from the board how can I enable it again Solved Go to Solution

I currently have the Intel ICH9M E/M Sata AHCI Controller, driver version 8.9.0.1023 dated 4 June 2009. Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade to Intel Rapid Storage Technology, and if so, what's the latest version I can safely upgrade to, and do I need to make any BIOS changes?

As usual any help is really appreciated.

A:Can I upgrade from Intel Matrix Storage to Rapid Storage?

I have an Intel ICH9R controller and am using the same driver version. Was not able to find a newer one. I think the newer drivers aren't compatible anymore.

I tried to install the latest version 14.8.0.1042 and i get a incorrect platform error and it doesn't install

I'm using version 12.8

My specs are Win 7 pro x64, 7 Series/216 H77 chipset, I5 3rd gen, SSD SanDisk Ultra II 240g, Seagate 2tb HDD
Is this version for a different chipset or version of windows?

A:Intel - Storage Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller Windows update

Hi smalis,Your image shows two Microsoft updates:1) MS Security Essentials virus definition update. (this should automatically update in the background)2) Intel Storage Sata Controller.Neither update will "format your computer" but my recommendation is NOT to download (#2) Intel Sata Controller from the Microsoft Update site. This type of driver from a stability and reliability standpoint is best obtained from the manufacturer of your motherboard or the manufacturer of your computer system (Dell, HP, etc) if it is OEM.

I bought a brand new SSD, installed it in Windows 7, and there is no option in my BIOS for the SATA controller (to switch between IDE and AHCI Mode). How do I determine whether my computer's sata controller is using IDE or AHCI?

I want to make sure that my AHCI controller is enabled and not IDE when using TRIM.

If anyone can look at the picture below and determine whether my computer is default in IDE or AHCI, then I will mark this as Solved.

Thanks.

I have enabled RAID on my HDD and in the BIOS and finally put in a SSD 120gb that works. Now I don't know how to actually run the Intel Rapid Storage utility that I did do once before.

I downloaded the files from Microsoft but like so many Windows 7 (64-bit) files there's no instruction of where to put them. A self installation would've been handy.

So does anyone know how to set up IRS inside Windows 7? It's something to do with Administrative Tools but there's nothing showing in that menu when I go to Disk Management.

Sounds simple but everyone seems to assume you set this thing up automatically.

This is the setup as it shows from boot up.

I managed to find the setup program on this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De...apid+Storage+Technology+(Intel®+RST)&lang=eng

After reboot I now get a separate Intel Rapid Storage Technology item on my menu but I can't see any command to accelerate the main C: drive using the SSD.

Anything I need to do extra?

A:Intel Rapid Storage

I now get this screen using the program:

You can see it's BLANK!

What am I doing wrong as there are no commands to accelerate the main HDD?

I have this installed but i have disabled the service and tray icon from running at boot

I can only find conflicting info about this, it seems to be for RAID setups only but other might suggest those with single drives can benefit from it running with NCQ and AHCI mode ... I have my BIOS and Windows in AHCI mode with my Vertex 2E SSD and Seagate 7200.12 SATA-3 HDD (noticable improvement at boot once enabled)

do I need the IRS service running to get any performance boost? or is just having it installed enough? it seems fast enough without it but thought I would ask - and if I DO have it running I wont need the tray icon to load would i?
thanks

Older and Older systems DO NOT take Newer and Newer versions of INTEL RST.

Windows 7 comes with Matrix storage manager 8.9

The INTEL MSM is not INTEL RST

Windows 7 Requires INTEL RST 9.6 for advanced format drives aka larger than 80 gigs.

Intel RST replaces Intel Matrix Storage Manager.  HOWEVER you cannot update to your hearts content from 7 to 8 to 9 to 10 to 11 to 12 to 13 to 14 etc.  As the drivers and chipsets get newer the older ICH5 6 7 8 9 10 etc are dropped from support.

There may not be an update.  The WIN10 version of INTEL RST  IASTOR.SYS may not support your chipset.  The INTEL RST console app is a DOT NET application and will NOT RUN or install without DOT NET installed first from Control Panel and then all the update patches. You cant use version 14 on a system thats 3 or more years old.  It was INTEL MATRIX Storage Manager until version 9.6
Version 10.1 was the first version to support drives large format drives aka bigger than 2TB with UEFI bios and GPT
You did not say what DELL model you have.
You also have to install these pieces via control panel.

CSM and Legacy Option Roms must be turned on.
This means you have to install Legacy Direct show as well as DX9

Microsoft* .NET Framework 3.0 or newer is required to be installed on the system in order for the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology User Interface to install.  Note that  Microsoft* Operating Systems do not have .NET 3.0 or newer installed by default.

And if you have Secure boot on it must be turned OFF
CSM and Legacy Option Roms must be turned on.
This means you have to install Legacy Direct show as well as DX9
and DX10 drivers from the june 2010 PATCH.
You download the file. extract to a folder and run the dxsetup.exe file as administrator.
Download details: DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)

Supported Operating Systems:
Windows 7;Windows Server 2003;Windows Server 2008;Windows Vista;Windows XP Service Pack 3.
You also have to re enable DOTNET and Legacy Direct play.

A suite of drivers was provided with my Asus motherboard. I could see a good reason for installing most of them but not the Rapid Storage set as I never intend to have a raid setup. After reading several posts on this forum, I am wondering whether there may be other reasons for installing these drivers. I would be pleased if someone could enlighten me.
Thanks
Keith

Hello Keith,

The Intel RST drivers also include AHCI for your SATA devices. It is recommended to be installed.

Welcome to the Sevenforums!

You might want to uninstall the application from Control panel => "programs and features", then reinstall the Intel Rapid storage Technology. See if it's works.

Hi TCL56, Thank you for your query, I am glad to help. I understand that you would like to add, a SSD drive to your system.  I see in the specification that you can specify a secondary drive on order, therefore I believe there is room for you to install it.  Here is some documentation I think will help,  About Solid State Hard Drives and How to Install an SSD (Solid State Drive). Please let me know the outcome.

I have a EX58-UD3R motherboard and I decided to install the latest drivers instead of the installation CD, but when I get to Intel Rapid Storage Technology I get "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements to install this software" which is a very vague message. I tried to look into the installation CD for something similar but found nothing, so Im not sure what's causing this..

Hello all,

My configuration:

Notebook - Asus
1TB HDD + 24 GB SSD (sandisk)

I've reinstalled WIN but now I can't use "Intel Rapid Storage Technology " -> Intel Smart Response Technology.

Now I'm lost because I don't know how to configure this SSD as SRT (Smart response technology). I configure "SSD" drive inside "disk management" as "stand-alone" partition, which is not proper as far I discovered.

I've installed all drivers (Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver for my notebook) and also application"Intel rapid storage technology". Because SSD is not configured as it should be there is no option/tab "accelerate":
Can anyone help me, I really don't want to reinstall everything...

Thank you

Hi all, I've had an issue for some time with my Intel 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller. I'm running Win10 Pro 64 and updated earlier this year from Win7 Pro 64. I use Driver Genius to scan my drivers for updates and I got a message back in May to update to Ver. 14.8.9.1053 dated 4/21/16, but it failed to load quoting error code 1603. I currently have Ver. 14.8.7.1051 from 03/0//2016.

From time to time I've retried with no success and going to the Intel site is no help as it lists a Ver. 8.5 (driver ver. 14.5.0.1081 from 6/03/15) which sounds like it hasn't been updated for a while.

Anyone else run into this or can suggest a solution? Thanks.

I'm a first time poster and I hope that this thread is the proper place to post my problem.

I set up a RAID 0 array with the Intel RST of 2 750-gb hard drives. One of the drives has my Windows 7 installation on it and I am using that one to migrate into the RAID array. In the Storage System View screen the two drives of 750-gb each appear but the RAID 0 "Volume_0000" only shows a size of 750-gb.

Can anyone clue me in as to where the problem is?

Hi,
I'm having a problem with Sony Vaio Ultrabook model with Intel Rapid Storage. Sometimes a have to format these ultrabooks, for example, when they fail to boot Windows 7 and I can't recover it. The problem is that I can't find a way to disable it without Windows. Unlike Dell or others vendors, there isn't a BIOS option or hotkey to disable it before system boot.
I use norton ghost to restore images, so what I'm doing:
1. Use windows 7 install disk with F6 key to add Intel Rapid drivers;
2. Format it;
3. Install intel rapid software and disable acceleration;
4. Restore image with norton ghost.
Googled the net for a solution but I can't find similar problem. Could you help me?
Thanks in advance.

BTW I use it and have no issues. However I don't don't have a RAID setup but I do use AHCI.

It also provides AHCI support on select Intel? 5 Series, 4 Series, 3 Series, 965, 975X, 955X, 945, 925 and 915 chipset-based platforms, as well as on Mobile Intel? 915/910 chipset-based platforms.

I upgraded my desktop PC from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 last week. I have an Intel SSD system disk, a 2T hard drive for user files, an old 500Mb hard drive for miscellaneous backups and an external 2T USB hard drive for backups.

I had Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) application v 12.9.0.1001 under Windows 8.1 and this remains operational after the upgrade. My Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard has an Intel 7 Series SATA AHCI Controller.

Do I really need the IRST application or should I uninstall it? I've seen in other posts on the forum that the IRST software may be the cause of occasional slow logins I experience on my desktop PC and laptop (both have IRST software).

There is an app that was preinstalled by Dell, entitled "Intel Rapid Storage Technology".  Does anyone know if this will continue to function with W10?  If not, does that speed things up significantly, or is it not worth worrying about?

A:Will Intel Rapid Storage Technology work with W10

Clean install out of the box No nor will it work upgrade.
The reason is that the RST application requires DOTNET.
This has to be ADDED BACK to windows 7 8 10 via control panel, add features to windows, must be ONLINE as these "features" are downloaded from windows update.
Advanced format drives Require INTEL RST 9.6 or higher.
Larger than 2TB Drives requires a host bus adapter and or INTEL RST 10.1 or higher.
The problem is that newer and newer versions of RST DO NOT SUPPORT OLDER AND OLDER versions of INTEL ICH aka ICH 4 5 6 7 8 9 10.  The higher you go the lower versions drop support.
Version 9.6 may be max for your motherboard.
I am sure that by the time you get to INTEL RST version 11.7 that your ICH aka Sata controller is NOT supported.
Trying to install when the system is in ATA mode instead of AHCI OR if the version of ICH is not supported will error with not supported hardware.
The INTEL RST 9.6  F6 Drivers can be put on a USB Flash drive and when AHCI is enabled for Sata operation it will load the drivers and see the disk.  If you do not load RST 9.6 or higher it will not "see the drive" and will not install.  Advanced format 4k drives started arriving in 2011.  At this point ALL NEW Drives are advanced format.  If you have an ancient 120 gig , 80 gig drive it won't need the drivers.   Most 160 Gig, 320 gig , 500 gig etc are 4k Advanced format Drives.

Hello Jim, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The intel Raid-Sata-Ata-Ahci RST 11.5.2.1001 WHQL version worked best for me. You might give them a try as well to see how they do for you at the Station Driver link below.

I received this message today on my screen. I went to Intel but could not understand what they were telling me to do something about BIOS nnd Sata and now I'm lost.
My computer has just slowed down to a crawl these last 4 or 5 days, could this be the problem. I'm a novice and quite lost. My browsers and mail programs are working at a crawl.

Hey guys! I am new in this forum so I hope I am in a right section to ask this question, if no pleas redirect me
So I have Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed on my Sony VAIO, as I understand it's keeping eye on my heard drive and kind of preventing from damages, (this is what I suppose). Some time ago I installed newer version of Intel Rapid Storage Technology and as always it's booting with the rest of the programs I want them to be booted, but this new version is really slowing down the boot, so I am thinking to remove it from start-up and my question is: is this program really doing what I think it's doing and also, will it be safe to remove it from start-up???
Thank you very much

A:Intel Rapid Storage Technology boot slowing

The drivers are essential for your disk to function. However, you are probably not talking about the drivers but about the additional software with a graphical user interface that is used to set up RAID Settings etc. That you do not need to run all the time. If I'm not mistaken, once your HDD works well, you do not have to have the gui in your startup programs. You should even be able to deinstall the gui if you want.

I have ASUS laptop that comes with 24gb SSD. From what I read, to be able to enable caching in the SSD after formatting all drives, IRST and expresscache should be installed. The default factory setting, which I formatted to, is bundled with IRST driver installer and express cache installer. I tried to install IRST, and then it asked me to restart. Then, nothing happens. I tried to search the IRST app, but there is none. The expresscache installer seems to be working since I can find it in the programs and features window. The question is, how am I supposed to install the bundled IRST installer in order to utilize my SSD for caching drive?Any help will be much appreciated since I can't find any answer regarding my problem.

I generally avoid HD bloatware during reinstalls or while cleaning up bloatware unless they have a specific function (SMART monitoring) that the user wants running.

However it's recently been brought up that Intel Rapid Storage Technology software should be running when it's controller is selected.

I'm asking opinions if there are specfic reasons this software needs to be installed and running in addition to the iastor.sys driver.

Thanks for your input.

A:Is Intel Rapid Storage Technology Software needed?

What is Intel Rapid Storage Technology? Do I need it?

Dear,

We have purchased a lot of Toshiba Tecra Z50-A laptops with a Hybrid HDD (with SSD cache).

The exact model:
TECRA Z50-A
PT544E-00D01TBT

We stage and re-partition the laptops via SCCM.
However, when installing all drivers and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software, I see that only rge HDD is used and no SSD partition with Intel RST.

How can we enable this?
The problem is that the performance is incredibly bad.
The laptops are very slow even though the specs are good:
i5-4200U CPU
8GB RAM
Windows 7 x64

Any idea how to enable this Intel RST?
In the BIOS I can't find any options for RAID as this needs to be enabled for RST to work.

Thank you

A:Tecra Z50-A - Intel Rapid Storage Technology not working

So nobody has any idea?

Also no idea how I can enable RAID in BIOS?
I cannot find that option anywhere.

This is getting very annoying.
We have purchased 100+ laptops and they are very, very slow.

I guess we'll switch back because those work flawlessly.

After fresh install I now have the (2) HDD's shown and was was notified to install chipset driver, so I did and ended up installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

Now my (2) HDD's are mirrored {combined to one drive} but the problem is I get an error about recycle bin being corrupt, delete- yes or no?.... and nothing works trying both options and the message keeps coming up.

A:Installed Intel Rapid Storage now Recycle Bin error

** problem was a corruption with my RAID 1 config between two of my drives for windows to see it as (1) drive.
it happened when I changed my drive type in BIOS from RAID to AHCI. You shouldn't do this as it will leave you with a corrupted windows install as it doesn't know how your drives are configured.
PREVENTION: don't change drive type in BIOS when you still have an operating OS installed.

A:Intel Rapid Storage Technology (pre-OS) driver installation

The pre operating system drivers exist to allow installation of operating systems that do not already contain the appropriate drivers. Windows 7 contains the necessary drivers, therefore no additional pre OS drivers are required.

Adding the IRST after OS installation would essentially update those drivers to the latest (not always necessary).

If you manage to install the latest during the OS installation, then you would not need to update them later.

However, you would need to install the IRST software to get the configuration application.

Nothing is updated at the BIOS level when using pre OS drivers.

I would install both Windows 7 and 8 without messing with any pre OS drivers.

One day I decided to check out this utility called Slimdriver that scans your PC to make sure it has up to date drivers. It offered to download and install 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' driver which I have never been offered by Windows update. Here is what is says about this driver,

"Intel® Rapid Storage Technology offers greater levels of performance, responsiveness, and expandability than ever before. Whether you are using one or multiple serial ATA (SATA) or PCIe drives, you can take advantage of enhanced performance and lower power consumption from the latest storage technologies. Additionally, you can rest easy knowing you have added protection against data loss in the event of a hard drive failure."

I've never used this driver in the past and it has a long startup delay so am wondering if it is good to have or not really necessary.

A:Do you install 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' driver?

I never install that. It creates another System Tray icon and doesn't appear to do anything useful. Would love to see if it actually helped with non-RAID systems.

How do I actually update the driver for this? I have win 8.1 and task manager says IAStorSataSvc (32 bit) (intel rapid storage technology) is using 277.8 MB of memory (it was over 1,000 last night) and .4% of the CPU.  My version is 11.50.1207 and forums indicate this version eats a lot of memory and the driver should be updated.  How do I do that?  There are two versions that can be downloaded,  f6flpy-x86.zip - for 32-bit versions of the operating system and f6flpy-x64.zip - for 64-bit versions of the operating system.  Win 8.1 is 64 bit and the IRST says it is 32 bit, so which one do I use?  Once I have the right one dowloaded, it is a zip folder with 6 files.  How do i update the driver, double click on one of the .sys files, the largest one (there are two, one smaller than the other)?

I am not sure how to proceed here, I don't want to experiment, I am looking for someone who is using a caching disk and how they go about backing up and restoring in windows 7. It seems like the Intel Rapid Storage Technology ads a level of complexity that is less than ideal. Possibly It might have been better to spend the extra money and go with just a SSD rather than trying to save money and add extra layers of work.
Any help or insight would be appreciated.

A:Windows 7 backup with Intel Rapid Storage Technology Installed

I don't have an SSD drive, but I can tell you for sure that you don't want the buggy Windows 7 backup program.  I've been using the FREE program Easeus Todo Backup Free for about the last 3 years on 7 computers and it works great for me.
The March 2012 issue of PC World was very high on the FREE program from Easeus and so is CNET.  In my experience with a variety of configurations I have to say I'm very impressed.  Like Ghost (which unfortunately is no longer on the market) it will back up to a networked drive, and it will create a boot CD for when your PC won't boot.  Don't download from CNET unless you want to get malware, but you can see CNET's review of it at
 http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Todo-Backup-Free/3000-2242_4-10964460.html?tag=mncol;1#editorsreview .
-
CNET has a lot of backup program reviews at
http://download.cnet.com/windows/backup-software/?tag=contentBody;sideBar .

Some of these are free (last time I checked there were over 300), some have free trials (over 1000), and some are purchase only (over 200).
-
External hard drives are best for backup. You can get a 1 TB one for around $50. You can also buy a 32 GB flash drive for under $20.  It's the best insurance you can ever buy!

-
I hope this helps.  Good luck

A:Lenovo G500 - Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA...

hi Shailesh,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

From this article, this is the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL possible cause:

"This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.
The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.

If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version."

From your description, It's possible that the HDD or the RAM is faulty but it's also possible that it's a software (driver) issue -- which is the hard drive (SATA) controller.

To verify, I would:
1. Run a diagnostic on the HDD (via Lenovo's Storage Quick Test or via HD Tune)

2. Run a diagnostic on the RAM (via Memtest86+)
   - RAM - Test with Memtest86+

3, Read the BSOD dump file to see what file caused the crash
   - How to solve Windows 8 crashes in less than a minute
   - If the file is associated with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (SATA Controller), uninstall the software from the Control Panel > Programs and let Windows install a generic Windows driver.
   - Link to picture

If you get an error after running the diagnostic test, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue.

Regards

Its not really needed much anymore, I would do your clean install without it 1st, then check on how your Windows runs. I uninstalled mine right after our Anniversary Update. Have had no problems.

My Windows 7 is running slow however it is different from simply lagging. The mouse works fine however clicking on applications does not bring them up. The only difference I can see is an error message coming up saying "Intel Rapid Storage Technology not working".

Any ideas on what I should do or extra information you require?

Hi,

I am planing to upgrade with Intel SSD drive, but in BIOS at the moment I dont have AHCI option (only IDE or RAID). Would AHCI mode will be available in BIOS if I install Intel Matrix Storage?

As I see from PC Wizard 2010:

Hi tomas, you motherboard must have support for AHCI function, can you specify model and brand, maybe you need to update the bios.

A:XPS 2720: After new hard drive cannot get Intel Rapid Storage Technology working again

The BIOS SATA operation should not be set to RAID. It should be set to Intel Smart Response Technology. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology won't be able to accelerate unless this SATA operation is selected. Likely your previous motherboard was fine.
You will need to reinstall Windows after altering the SATA operation within the Dell BIOS setup. See page 366 of my Windows Reinstallation Guide:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/
You can also set the SATA operation to AHCI and replace the mSATA cache drive with a 128 GB or superior Samsung 840 Evo:
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/uk/html/about/SSD840EVO.html
The price of these being far more economic then it was a year ago. In such a configuration you should install Windows directly on the SSD and this will lead to the best performance.
The 30 GB cache drive was an intermediate between OS installation on the HDD and OS installation on the SSD because high capacity SSDs were too expensive.
Note in either case when you change the SATA operation the system will not boot and you will need to clean install Windows again.

Hey All,

I'm purchasing a new SSD next week. I've been reading up on it and it looks like I need to enable AHCI in my BIOS. I can't find any option for AHCI though.

I currently have my System setup as RAID0. This was how it was set up in the factory and I haven't changed it.

The only option I have is under SATA operation and I can either set it to "RAID Autodetect/ATA" or "RAID ON".

Is there anyway I can check to see whether AHCI is already enabled? If not will one of the above options enable it?

A:How to Enable AHCI - No option in BIOS.

Some motherboards incorporate AHCI SATA automatically. In the early days of SATA there was a lot of confusion in terminology. "RAID" - "AHCI" - all the same thing.

For your motherboard it looks like you want to choose "RAID Autodetect/ATA" to use a non-RAID setup with AHCI.

Recently I upgraded my BIOS to the latest version: "F.63 for HP EliteBook Folio 9470m". The first thing catching my attention, when I was checking the BIOS, was the missing entry: Intel Rapid Start Technology (FFS). This removal seems the intention of HP, according to the product change notification (Document ID: c05143560). Unfortunately, I've seen this product change notification afterward. My question: ?What was the reason, for HP, to decide removing the Intel Rapid Start Technology (FFS) feature from the BIOS??  HP mentions, according the product change notification, the disappearance of the feature, however not why.  There must be a reason and I like to know. Thanks in advance.

A:W540 SATA Option (RAID or AHCI) gone after BIOS up...

Did you order your system as RAID model?  W540 does not come with RAID by default.  Lenovo has to license RAID option ROM (costs $) so it is only provided if you order RAID model from Lenovo.  As far I as I know, the only RAID model in Europe is 20BG001Sxx.  And your 20BG001Cxx model came with only 1 disk.  If I am wrong about this, please let me know.

I believe there was a bug in 1.05 that mistakenly enabled RAID on some non-RAID models.  The bug was fixed in 2.05, so unless you really have a RAID model W540, then RAID would become properly disabled on your system.

Evening!

Have recently formatted my laptop and re installed Windows on my normal HDD because i have a small SSD since formatting my SSD and deleting and renewing the old partition, in windows explorer and disk management i can no longer see my SSD. I can see my SSD in Bios and in the Intel Rapid storage technology app, but cannot understand why i cannot use my SSD, Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Perry

A:SSD not showing in Disk Management, but showing on Intel Rapid Storage

Could we get some more information?

Does this laptop have 2 hard drive bays? Did it always have 2 hard drives?
What does "deleting and renewing the old partition" mean?

What I suspect is that the SSD has a partition that is still marked ACTIVE. Windows will boot from one Active partition and ignore the other. So if the SSD has just one partition that is marked active then the whole drive would be ignored.

If you deleted the partition in Disk Management or some 3rd party program then that would have taken care of the Active flag on that partition. But if you just deleted the contents of the partition that would have left the flag.

Let us know what you did.

EDIT: I should add: any partition that contained an operating system will have the active flag. This is not something you would have had to do yourself.

Some of what you're experiencing may be due to the different hardware than you had in the older system - however, one BIG possibility:
Windows 7 does not fully support the power management features of the Skylake CPU and chipset in your system.  Even if Windows 7 is correctly installed, there will be missing features (Microsoft never implemented the advanced Skylake power management features in anything older than Windows 8).
You'd likely experience some of the same issues with a Skylake Lenovo system.
The Skylake platform in your system WILL run Windows 7 (it's the last Intel platform that will;  the newly released Kaby Lake won't run it at all), but it won't implement all the Skylake power management features it has no drivers for (and never will have drivers for).  Unless you're completely stuck with Windows 7, most of the issue -- or all of them -- will go away if you move to Windows 10.  If you don't do it now, this is the last hardware you'll be buying -- as above, Windows 7 is history as of the release of the new Kaby Lake platform.

Hi.

I have the GA-EX58-Extreme Board and have just installed the pre release of Win7 7600 64 bit. Normally i have experience to get the BSOD when in staling with AHCI active in bios so i change to IDE mode. Installation went flawless and also the change to AHCI mode on Intel ICH10R controler went normal. As always i got problem to change the J micron controller to AHCI and of cause i got the BSOD again. I installed the latest R1.17.48.16 driver and tryed again but no luck. Can some tell me what i am doing wrong. ? I have a hardisk and a dvd drive attached to the J micron Sata connection.

A:Intel Sata controler ICH10R AHCI + Jmicron AHCI error

You may not be doing anything wrong...or at least, you're doing the same wrong thing that I am. I've never been able to get that jMicron deleted to work in AHCI mode.

So, I hang the optical drive and the port for the e-SATA connection to the external backup drive off it and run it in IDE mode.

Dear Experts,
I am unable to find 'ATA' option in dell optiplex 3040mt. Hence could not deploy Windows 2008 server image on it. In dell 3020 i can deploy the image using ATA mode. Please advise how to enable 'ATA' option in Optiplex 3040 and install windows 2008 server. Thanks!

A:Dell Optiplex 3040 MT - In BIOS there is No option to select 'ATA' for SATA Operation!!! (Unable to deploy Windows 2008 Server Image in AHCI Mode)

Jesse There is no such option in 3040 because ATA mode is no longer supported.  The F6 drivers are REQUIRED for windows 7 or 8 or 10.   XP/VISTA aren't supported at all and will not install.
AHCI is the only option available in Modern Bios and chipsets.
INTEL RST F6 drivers are REQUIRED for all advanced format 4k sector hard drives. Most all drives

Hello Option not BIOS Intel CPU Enabling Dell SGX Feature I have recently purchased Precision laptops with the intention of using them for research on Intel s new Software Guard Extensions SGX These laptops come with the required CPUs that support these new CPU instructions and we thought the required BIOS support as well In the BIOS for the laptops there is an option for enabling SGX but when enabled we are not able to install any of the official Intel SDKs on Windows OR Linux Additionally we ran an SGX test program that would dynamically detect the SGX features using CPUID and Machine Specific Registers MSRs It successfully detected the SGX hardware support i e the SGX instructions are physically on the CPU chip but it showed that the BIOS flags controlling the startup of SGX were not enabled possible SGX specific MSRs have not been set The specific CPU flag that needs to be set is described here nbsp https github com ayeks SGX-hardware nbsp Here is a quote from that Dell BIOS Intel SGX Option not Enabling CPU Feature page that describes what is needed for SGX to work quot The CPU and the motherboard BIOS must support SGX SGX is turned off by default and must enabled via MSR IA Feature Control SGX Enable Only the BIOS can make changes to the IA Feature Control quot For reference we are using the latest BIOS version for our model - version A Also the CPU we have is the Intel Core i - HQ CPU GHz nbsp I hope we can resolve this issue in a timely manner as we are not able to use these laptops for their intended purpose SGX research Intel SGX explanation nbsp Intel SGX SDK nbsp
