NEW laptop freezes when moved -- stopped when battery remove...

Q: NEW laptop freezes when moved -- stopped when battery remove...

Purchased the HP Gold Luxe laptop with Windows less than two months ago This past week it started freezing up when moved even slightly or when picked up This happened during mundane browsing or using the computer even just to write notes not anything using lots of resources like gaming or even streaming video nbsp After looking around online I saw several suggestions including to try removing the battery I removed the battery and sure enough it did not freeze when when when freezes NEW battery -- remove... moved laptop stopped moved if battery is REMOVED and the laptop is plugged in nbsp nbsp Does this mean the battery is faulty Again this is a brand new laptop less than months old It is under warranty Am I going to have to ship the laptop to some HP service center or will they likely just send a replacement battery or what nbsp nbsp NEW laptop freezes when moved -- stopped when battery remove... Preferred Solution: NEW laptop freezes when moved -- stopped when battery remove...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

About two weeks ago, my laptop just locked up in the middle of usage and when I tried to hard reboot it, it wouldnt even start up. The lights and fan would go on but nothing would load. I waited about 30 minutes and it would boot up normally but it froze after about an hour of use. The next day the laptop worked fine and this remained true for a week. After that, it froze and I couldnt get it to boot up for quite a while, and when I did, it would freeze immediately or within a few minutes. I thought the ram could've been bad so I swapped the ram and slot but it still froze. I recently discovered that when I do boot the laptop, it would freeze when I moved it slightly. Does anyone know what is wrong with my laptop? I dont want to have to replace it.

Thank you

I've had my laptop for Moved Freezes when Laptop a couple of years now and Laptop Freezes when Moved I'm not entirely sure when this problem began occuring but whenever I move Laptop Freezes when Moved my laptop it freezes It doesn't matter what I'm doing - I can just be on my desktop homescreen but if I move Laptop Freezes when Moved my laptop a certain way tilt it change the angle of the screen almost always it will freeze Then I will have to press the power button just to put it to sleep and then when I press it again it will usually be back to normal sometimes I have to shut it off and restart it completely I've tried installing different drivers and whatnot but nothing seems to work It's really annoying to always have to use my laptop at a desk Sometimes the screen will turn black and recover on its own and a message will pop up saying the display driver has stopped responding but has recovered I'm also not a gamer and even if I'm watching videos the laptop will be completely fine as long as it's on a flat surface But again it will freeze once I move it nbsp nbsp Has anyone experienced this before nbsp nbsp Please give me whatever help or tips you can as I'm willing to try pretty much anything to fix this nbsp

Hi

I am running an ageing ACER travelmate laptop with Win 7 Pro SP1 (up to date with updates).

Yesterday I accidentally spilled some tea on the keyboard. I quickly followed procedure: I powered down, took battery out, dried the keyboard - first with absorbent tissues and then with a hair dryer.

I logged in. No problem booting up - up to the login window. I could not login because the keboard is not responding. Keyboard (most keys, except on the extreme right) are non-responsive. I managed to login via the virtual keyboard. I have no problem with the mouse or any mouse operated functions.

Right now I am working via an external (USB) keyboard. When I go to 'Control panel' > 'keyboard' all the vital signs are normal, eg, driver, launch manager are shown as functioning normally.

What can I try next to get back the laptop keyboard functionality back?

A:Laptop keyboard stopped working -spillage [moved to Hardware>Laptops]

Not much as the "spillage" has pretty much ruined the keyboard. Depending on your repair ability, you could order a replacement for it and do it yourself or take it to a repair shop for replacement. But the bottom line is; it has to be replaced.

Hi. I was recently using my laptop, when I wiggled the power cable a bit and suddenly the laptop stopped charging. I have a bad feeling the battery has died or something. I tried using another power cable and that didnt fix it (so I dont think the cable is a problem).

Is there anything else I can try before resorting to buying a new battery?

Hello I am having a disagreement with other folks about whether or not it is OK to pull your laptop battery out It seems like friends of mine any time their laptop freezes up they choose to use this method I have told them that removing the battery is OK? computer freezes up out laptop battery Pulling often when NOT something to do at all in response to a computer freeze up I have told them to do the CRT Alt DEL thing and then nd to hold the power button down to shut the unit off - but never to yank the battery out They say that tech support from Dell and others have told them that it is OK to do this I really think it is not the thing to do over and over again the mobo being so sensitive to shock I would never do it I have a lady friend who says she has been doing it for years and Pulling laptop battery out often when computer freezes up OK? her laptop works just fine Please resolve this nbsp

A:Pulling laptop battery out often when computer freezes up OK?

My gut response is NO, NO, NO..... But on further thought, removing the battery from an operating laptop is not substantially different than holding down the power switch. There is still the sudden removal of power which, in itself, is not a good thing and can result in problems. I can, however, envision possible damage to the electrical contacts, although unlikely. Additionally, it is difficult for me to believe ANY competent tech support would recommend such an action.

And finally... If a computer is freezing up often enough that such a question should even arise, then I suggest THAT is the problem which should be addressed.

We are planning to go on a long driving trip and my laptop will be unplugged from a power source for at least a month. Will the battery still be operating during that time and if so, should I remove it to prolong its life and will there be any problems if I do?

I want to keep my lenevo g50 laptop ON all the time and I think this can damage the battery. I cant find a way to disable battery from BIOS so i removed the battery physically and kept it in a plastic bag. When I would need to make it portable I will plug in the battery again from there. I just want to make sure that doing this thing will be OK? maybe if i keep the battery like this detached it could loose charging power too. Other way which I have seen is to enable conservative mode which will keep battery from 55-60% all the time. I think removing the battery physically is better, please advise on this.

A:G50 laptop to use as desktop - remove battery

Hi Ali,

Welcome to the Lenovo community!

Yes. It is fine to leave the battery charging while it is being used. Myself and everyone at my company runs off full battery and keeps it plugged in all day. After 2+ years my battery is still fine and holds its charge for hours.

Most laptop batteries these days are Lithium Ion based - so constant charging won't hurt them.

Good tips for looking after a battery include:

Avoid frequent complete discharge of a batter as contrary to popular belief, this can actually put strain on a lithium battery.
Keep the battery and laptop cool. No hotter than 95degrees for an extended period of time.
Consider removing the battery if you are planning to work the laptop hard on mains for an extended period of time
Calibrate your battery and gauge by doing occasional (not frequent) full discharge/charge cycles
Lithium batteries degrade over time - when buying a new battery for your laptop, buy a "new" battery - not one from old stock
When storing the laptop unused for a long period of time, store it with some charge, but not full charge and do a calibration charge when you put it back into service. Storing at 100% or empty is bad for the battery. try storing at half charge or just below
Look into buying high capacity batteries rather than spares - this can often server better.

Let us know how you get on.
Regards,
Shashi

Hello, Tech Guy forums

So my laptop, which I got last December, freezes when running games (WoW, Champions Online, Aion are a few examples) on anything but power saver. Both Balanced and High Performance cause me to crash anywhere from 5-30 minutes after loading it up.

What happens is: I'll usually be doing some questing or whatnot and out of the blue for no known reason the entire computer just freezes. The sound cuts off, I'm unable to move the mouse. It stays this way unless I hold the power button to turn it off.

This problem is nonexistent when my laptop is set to Power Saver, which poses a problem as it causes low framerate when playing.

If anyone has any suggestions/questions/answers I'd love to hear em' ^^

I usally just put in my battery for charging so i can put it in the computer when i need to go somewhere and then when i come back and puts it in its desktop position ( If the battery is drained) I have the battery in the computer to charge it and then i take out the battery when its 100% charged ( While the laptop is on ) And sometimes i put in the battery too while the laptop is on. Can this do serious harm or is it harmless?

A:Is it safe to remove the laptop battery while the computer is on?

No while it is on it is not safe to do so even in sleep mode.

At home I run my brand new Toshiba laptop exclusively on electricity. Does having the laptop continuously plugged in to an AC outlet either shorten the life of or do harm to the battery as long as it remains in the unit? If not, would it make sense to remove the battery and then use tape to cover the exposed area? Does the battery charge whenever the unit is in either Sleep or Hibernation mode?

While I hardly ever plan to use battery power, the user's manual does state that "it is helpful to fully discharge the battery periodically." The manual also says to disconnect the AC adaptor If you are not going to use the computer for more than eight hours. I assume this is accurate advice.

It makes little difference. The battery will slowly decharge on its own whether its in the laptop or not.

What  will happen if I remove the battery of a laptop and press the power button for 30 seconds??
Can anyone explain me in detail please!

A:What will happen if I remove the battery of a laptop and press the power button for 30 seconds??

It is a system reset - it resets the firmware to factory defaults.  If something is stored in CMOS that's preventing a boot, it will clear that -- it's a last ditch effort to confirm the fault lies elsewhere (usually with the mainboard).

Hi, My battery seems to hold a charge very well. However, the problem is when I try to move my laptop on battery power; it suddnely turns off. It also shuts down when jostled or bumped. The battery is great when the laptop is stationary. I noticed this problem when I move from one class to another: The Aspire V works great during class, but the moment I shut it and put it in my backpack it shurts down and I need to reboot it for the next class. The laptop is great when it is plugged in. This seems like a hardware issue but I don't know what to do. Thanks for your help!

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

Your battery has failed and must be replaced. They're only good for three or four years. Happens to all laptops.

A:Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge!

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)
---> Low battery level ( you can change it to 20%)
Now once that's done, YOU WILL NO LONGER SEE THE EXCLAMATORY MARK ON YOUR BATTERY!!!!
So I hope this works!
Reply me back when you've succeeded fixing it.

Ok this might be easy..it might not (COMPAQ M2105)

I ended up replacing my motherboard for a model with more features (SD readers blah blah).

I took it all apart and put it all back with the new board in...now when i go into windows (and even before while booting)...the orange lights would come on for a second...then beging to flicker

while in windows...it just will either not charge the battery..or flicker from AC to battery

i CAN power the unit on with the battery alone, and i CAN power the unit with the cord alone...

lastly, my old motherboard (which had a HD connector problem)...still WILL charge the battery...so i'm sure its not the battery...i don't think...

i also dont' think its the AC adapter since it is the same piece I used on both motherboards.....

what to do................

A:compaq M2105 laptop - battery will not charge, flickers from AC/battery

Hopefully you are experienced in working on and repairing laptops/notebooks... and you carefully handeled the replacement motherboard and didn't damage it. Repairing laptops takes considerable skill and caution.

It does sound like the "new" motherboard is bad unfortunately. How did you handle the "old" operating system restore to the "new" motherboard?

It's so strange. Today when I turned on my laptop, suddenly, there was a message that my battery has problems so the computer might shut down suddenly. I tried different strategies, like uninstalling the battery driver, or letting the computer completely die. When it turned off itself at 6%, I turned it back on, and it was at 2 minutes battery life. Then in a few minutes, it said 4 minutes battery life for 6%. Now, it's passed an hour, and it says 3 minutes, but changes sometimes to 1-4 minutes. The battery meter is completely wrong, and I don't know what to do since it is closing the computer way too early. I'm still not sure what the problem is. Please help me.

I am becoming more and more concerned about my laptop's battery each and every passing day. When I check the bottom right of my computer screen to check if my computer battery is completely charged, it says "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I have had to buy two new batteries because of the same thing and they also read "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". When I unplug my laptop from the power source, it turns off automatically. I cannot even bother calling Dell to check this issue for me because I bought this computer off the street for $35.

My question in general is how do I get this problem fixed and how do I keep an eye on how my laptop computer charges correctly (or not)???

Hi out cuts battery power, on laptop battery good my girlfriend in Beijing has an Acer Aspire S latop She bought a new battery for it laptop cuts out on battery power, battery good a while back and told me it was no good I was in Beijing recently messing around with it and found that actually the battery is fine lasts for gt hours but when unplugged and running on battery power the laptop often just cuts out suddenly loss of power I took the battery out and had a look and cleaned all the connections but they seem fine The next part is the strange part and which I hope might give someone a clue as to what s going on When it cuts out it will never restart again unless the mains power cable is plugged back into the laptop As soon as that s done and the power button is pressed it starts up again and the cable can be taken out immediately I mean immediately - you can plug the cable in push the quot power on quot button and pull the cable back out in less than a second and it will start up and run fine on battery again until the next time it suddenly cuts out without warning Because any unsaved data is lost and because the laptop cannot restart without the power adaptor this very portable and light laptop is now reduced to having to be kept at home all the time and plugged in which is exactly the opposite of what she bought it for Anybody have any idea what the problem could be or suggest some tests that could be done to find out She took it to a local computer shop but the guys there had no idea Thanks in advance for any advice nbsp

Recently I noticed that the amber LED on my HP Probook 650 G1 flashing constantly, even when the laptop is powered off.   The System Tray battery indication is 100%, fully charged, when on AC power and 100% on battery power shortly after undocking.    I find the Probook won't power up if AC power is not available (no response when pressing power button) but remains powered when I remove it from the docking station.    Have the electronics that control this LED flashing and power up when not on AC gone bad?    Is this an indication of other failure? thanks

Hi Guys,

I have replaced the battery of my laptop after using it on AC supply for about year after my old battery died.

I get this error message.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined
Battery may not charge.
This problem might be solved by:
Connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher."

But I am using a 65W Dell Adapter that I got with my laptop.
BTW, I tried the steps for disc AC >> Start>>Uninstall MS ACPI >> Insert battery>> Restart. This process did not yield any favorable results.

Please help!!!
Thanks,
Nitin

Hi, you were probably passed as this may not be a malware problem.

Lets see if you have a corrupt file.

Please run SFC (System File Checker)

right-click cmd.exe in the list above and select 'Run as Administrator'
You will need your operating system CD handy.
Open Windows Task Manager....by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC

I recently reset my whole computer because it wouldn't turn on at all, but now every time I try to open a file, download/save a file or open something in the start bar it says "windows explorer has stopped working" and forces a quit from what I just opened.
I've read countless threads but none of them have worked, I can't type anything in the start search bar because it crashes and the error message comes up. I've done a check disk but it's still the same. it also crashes if I try to search something in the computer box.

Edit: I'm running windows vista.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks.

For the last few weeks, my computer has been acting up by slowly turning white randomly. I soon found that when it started to turn white, I could move the hinge or shake the computer gently, and it would start working again. Now, I can't move my computer and mess with the hinge, or else it will freeze, but will unfreeze when I move it again. For example, it did it three times while just typing this.
What's causing this and how do I stop it?

I have had this problem since new The only solution is to keep the yoga on a desk or somewhere where it will not get moved Needless to say all the features that are tablet and tent features are out of the question When this happens only a power button reset will work This will even occur when booting up if the computer is moved I am certain is has something to do with the sensor that detects screen orientation At this point I am thinking poorly of Lenova as this problem along with some of the keyboard when 3 Freezes moved Yoga keys becoming hard to register are combining to make this product appear generally cheap defective I did read something about turning off the Intel Rapid Yoga 3 Freezes when moved Display SSD link if I quoted that right which I did but the problem still persists BTW I have seen a few posts where a similar problem occurs but the mouse cursor still responds but in my Yoga 3 Freezes when moved situation everything freezes even the mouse cursor zero response to anything

I think you may have a hardware problem, could be something related to HDD or the complete motherboard.

My advice would be to contact Lenovo Support and ask them for a repair. Please note that it is extremely important that you provide your problem details (freezing on moving laptop), othewise they wont be able to identify it.

A:Laptop battery issue ??battery calibration??

i'm afraid the battery calibration program is only used to initialize new Li-Ion batteries which need to be prepped with an initial charge-discharge cycle.

It sounds to me like you have a battery composed of 32 (probably AA sized) cells.
One of those cells has died and hence you see only 97% charge. Unfortunately losing a single cell prevents current from entering or leaving the battery so your battery will not discharge correctly therefore shutoff without discharge.

I think you need a new battery. Although it may be possible to replace the single bad cell, other cells may be degraded also - if one cell failed, why not others? unit could have been exposed to heat etc.

Although I was an engineer for Gould, I am not a battery expert!

good luck!

A couple of weeks ago I did a clean install of Windows 10, and it has been running smooth since then. The last day, Windows 10 has been freezing constantly. After som digging, i realized Windows was freezing when i moved the laptop (not shutting down or anything, just picking it up from my lap was enough). I have tested my theory several times, and every time i lift the laptop up from the surface it freezes. It only happens in Windows, tried running the recovery application (outside windows), and I can move the laptop freely without it ever freezing. Any clues? Edit: Oddly enough, this behavior only happens when the WiFi adapter is enabled in Device Manager. I can add that yesterday, after the system froze, the wifi adapter disappeared from device manager all together. Had to disable/enable in BIOS to get it back.

Hello HPForums,I realized the battery had troubles when I unplugged my laptop to take it to the bathroom (haha). I turned off inmediately. So I checked for the battery to be well connected and it was OK. When I removed it, i found this gummy yellow substance that smells sweet on one of the sides. It was both in the battery and on the slot.(See photo attached).  Battery is PI06 manufactured on 2013. The battery doesn't work but the computer do knows it is plugged in. Is there a fix? And what was the cause of this leak? I handle my computer really carefully and don't leave it plugged often. Thanks!f

I noticed this officially a couple of days after it happened. I believe it happened while setting up a Sony nw-875 and setting up its drivers and downloading the SonicStage software. I noticed then that it was calling the nw-e75 the d:. Then upon further inspection last night the cd drive is not recognized by anything and I have no idea why, no drops or anything. The ediag doesn't recognize it or the device manager. I also noticed that the computer turns off immediately after unplugging, while the battery is old and sucks I would believe that it would have atleast enough charge for me to change seats.

Hello and welcome to BC. Please run these 2 scans and post back the logs, thanks.SDFix:Please print out and follow these instructions: "How to use SDFix". When using this tool, you must use the Administrator's account or an account with "Administrative rights"Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any real time protection programs before performing a scan. When done, the SDFix report log will open in notepad and automatically be saved in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.If SDFix is unable to run after rebooting from Safe Mode, run SDFix in either Mode, and type F, then press Enter for it to finish the final stage and produce the report. Please copy and paste the contents of Report.txt in your next reply.Be sure to renable you anti-virus and and other security programs before connecting to the Internet.-- If the computer has been infected with the VirusAlert! malware warning from the clock and the Start Menu icons or drives are not visible, open the SDFix folder, right-click on either the XP_VirusAlert_Repair.inf or W2K VirusAlert_Repair.inf (depending on your version of Windows) and select Install from the Context menu. Then reboot to apply the changes.Next run MBAM:Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.34) and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2If you have a previous version of MBAM, remove it via Add/Remove Programs and download a fresh copy.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer, copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. A:IE7 freezes on loading yahoo.com, but not firefox [Moved from IE]

Well I went into safe mode and loaded the site up just fine, then in IE7-it just finally loaded up.(that was a couple days ago).
But now sometimes I'll find a few random sites where it freezes up in IE7 and when I go into safe mode and load it up, it seems to fix it in Normal mode.

PC World.com, also gave me that. And a link inside PC world, did the same thing. Then I went into Safe mode again, then normal mode again and that loaded, from being froze too.

Thing is I keep finding sites where it will freeze on me, but I've been using my parents IE7 as well on those same site and their browser never froze once, and this computer has been infected before once (their computer), but my computer is CLEAN. I even have uniblue registry booster to scan my computer as well (note that I put this on after having these IE7 problems).

I have also reformatted my hard drive, just 12 hours after my first post, but this problem came back. I'm really clueless as to what's going on, or if I happen to have a very stealthy virus (have 2 anti-viruses, 1 anti-spyware program running on my computer all the time). Help Me!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L750 laptop. Works fine for sometime and then the orange LED lights start blinking and then the battery stops charging and laptop shuts down once the battery drains. When I notice the blinking orange LED light if I remove the power cord and reconnect, then I dont have the problem for some time and then reappears. When the orange light blinks the Toshiba PC health monitor shows 0% system power consumption, Battery condition good. I don't think its a problem with the battery because I already bought one. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Yesterday I spilled a little coffee at the bottom of my keyboard on my Compaq CQ - I quickly turned it over and wiped it down palm because power Recovery stopped of battery/AC then kept on using it for almost an hour This morning I turned it on and the computer could not see the hard drive I pulled the hard drive and it had coffee stains on Recovery stopped because of battery/AC power palm it I ran Recovery stopped because of battery/AC power palm a system check and it appeared as if the mother board was OK -- memory tested OK specs for the machine Recovery stopped because of battery/AC power palm came up fine So I replaced the hard drive No problem until I started to run the recovery disk After the initial loading it asks what type of restore I wanted I chose System Recovery On the next page a new warning pops up quot Your laptop is currently running on battery power Recovery Manager requires that your laptop is plugged into an AC power outlet quot The problem is it is plugged into an AC outlet and I can t get rid of the pop-up and continue with the recovery Did I fry more than the hard drive And is there a way around this nbsp

A:Recovery stopped because of battery/AC power palm

this may sound silly , and my suggestion cant be good for the laptop (so is pouring coffee into it tho )
but i have had experience with pouring bottles down my keyboard
so my suggestion is to turn on the heating and putting the laptop with the hole to put the power cable in downwards and keep it above the heating for a day , or over night
dont go extreme with the heating just nice and warm
it may solve that issue but im sure there will be many more ...

I ve been having a strange problem with the battery for my Thinkpad laptop I noticed Battery Stopped Working Thinkpad Suddenly the other day that Thinkpad Battery Suddenly Stopped Working it wasn t charging when I plugged the AC adapter in Eventually it ran out completely and would not charge at all This happened very suddenly it was working fine a week ago If I have the battery installed and AC attached and hit the power button the system will start up for a few seconds and then shut down Sometimes it will randomly start AGAIN for another few seconds and then shut down The only way I can get the computer to run is with the battery removed and AC adapter attached If I start the computer up with the AC adapter attached and then insert the battery the computer immediately powers down I really want to get this problem resolved I m hoping that it s just the battery itself but it seems strange that it would stop working so suddenly From my experience laptop batteries tend to lose their power over time And even if the battery was no good shouldn t the computer still work as long as the AC line is connected I have no problem replacing the battery I m just not certain that this is the real issue It seems that the AC adapter works fine Is this likely just a battery problem or is it possible that the motherboard is damaged nbsp

A:Thinkpad Battery Suddenly Stopped Working

Hi Dan and welcome to TSG.

I assume your Thinkpad's warranty has run out.

It could be a problem with the motherboard power circuitry but that would be expensive to fix.

As the charger looks ok the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to try a new battery.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Once I plugged in charger while my notebook was turned off.
It lighted Plug LED and Battery LED was blinking after 3 seconds.

I reinserted battery and it charged fine.
One day I was using my NB200 and it run out of charge, I plugged in and same thing happen but even after reinserting battery it won't start.

Plugging in it for long time doesn't heats up battery nor notebook. I can only start it without battery plugged in. Inserting battery shuts down PC after 1 seconds and LED of battery again blinks after 3 seconds.

What does it means? I tired putting battery in fridge because I read on internet it might fix but no luck.

Any idea how can I fix it.

A:Battery suddenly stopped working on NB200-10z

Hi

First of all you have to know that the notebook should run properly without the battery but with connected AC adaptor.
Even if the battery would be faulty or empty, the connected AC adaptor should supply power and you should be able to power up the notebook.

In case this isn?t possible, I assume an power supply electronic malfunction.

However, you could test the following workaround:
Try to power up and to boot the notebook without the battery.
Then go to device manager and uninstall the following entries under batteries:
- Microsoft composite battery
- Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery

Then reboot the notebook.
Power OFF again and insert the battery.
Power On the notebook and check if the unit would run properly.

Of course it would be also recommend testing the notebook in connection with another good and tested battery.

Hello, I have a Dell Precision M4500 laptop which stopped recognizing the battery a couple months back. I have had the laptop for one year now with absolutely no problems up until this happened. I am pretty sure the battery is still good, it's not that old, but since the computer wont even recognize it is in, there's no way to check if it can charge. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, maybe there is a fix before I have to shell out the money for a new battery.

A:Dell Precision M4500 stopped recognizing battery

Laptop batteries go bad any time, and they are considered to be "consumable" like paper is to a printer. Replace the battery and you should be okay

Antivirus System Pro alert keeps popping up in tray and redirecting me to porn links and other links. I just got my laptop back from company fixing it and they removed all virus and malware protection I had. I tried system restore and it won't work. I tried starting in Safe Mode and it won't let me start in any mode but normal. I tried downloading malwarebytes but everytime I try downloading anything, that antivirus pro pops up and stops it. I don't have disks to do complete recovery either. I tried downloading the DDS Tool from here and it blocks that too. I did a search for antivirus PRO and deleted it but it didn't help.

I have and HP Pavilion.
System is Microsoft XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2

Please help. Even while typing this I've been re-directed to porn links and have had to hit the back button.

Hi, I have a very annoying pop up (the weather channel) that wants me to put in my zip code so it can give me the weather on the toolbar I accidentally downloaded. I went into hijack this and got rid of the toolbar but that annoying pop up is still starting up with my computer. I don't know where it is coming from, if it is in the hijack this list?! Can I post my hijack this list and have someone look at it or do you have another idea? I am new to this site and unsure of protocol. THANKS for any help!

Hi and welcome to BleepingComputer The process of cleaning your computer may require temporarily disabliling some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. You have a lot of stuff running there.

I would start by uninstalling anything that you do not use or did not install in your add-remove programs.

I would definitely get rid of McCraffe. (if you can)_
I would also uninstall windows defender and AVG anti spyware.

I would disable zune, xbox, ctfmon from start up and much much more.

Then I would download and run MRU Blaster and CCleaner

Everthing you installed looks like it is running on start up.

here is what my fully functioning system looks like:

I was given a computer today that is apparently eaten up with spyware. I want to give it to a local charity if I can get it working. The Windows XP screen will open, but then it freezes if I try to click on any icon. So I really can't navigate to do anything. I know the previous owner installed Pro antivirus 2009 wich I understand is bad. Can someone offer me some suggestions how to get control and then clean it up? Thanks.

A:How gain control? Windows opens. Then everything freezes.[moved from security]

Hello and Welcome to TSF.

If you are giving this computer to charity, you need to zero the hard drive and start afresh.

The folks in our Windows XP Support Forum are experts in that area.

The power meter has stopped recognising the main battery although it recognises and reports on the secondary battery (the one that replaces the CD Drive). The indicator light registers that the battery is present and if it is fully charged on not.

Any suggestions?

Just ordered a brand new V15 Nitro Black Edition (Skylake). I turned it on, set up Windows 10, everything was working perfectly. I had also ordered an m.2 SSD, so I decided to pop the laptop open and install it. Installation seemingly went smoothly, but now the laptop won't boot without the power adapter plugged in. It seems like the battery must have come disconnected? Not really sure where to start, I don't see any loose cables on the inside of the case. I removed the SSD to see if it wasn't playing nicely, didn't make a difference. Help!!!!

I seemed to have easily solved the problem - it would not boot up on battery without all of the screws on the bottom of the case replaced. I guess this thread could serve as a quick answer for someone in the same situation though! I panicked too quickly.

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been posted before but my XPS 13 from 2013 freezes constantly when running unplugged from the power (battery mode).
What happens is the monitor goes weird and the sound freezes giving an annoying noise.
I believe this started happening when I updated to windows 10, but I'm not sure.
I formated the disc and resintalled everything, which seemed to help for the first couple of days and then everything went back to as it was.
Do you think it's some sort of driver problems?
I'm really upset with this because I bought a top of the line (at the time) laptop and now I can't use it unplugged! :(
Thanks for your help!
Ricardo

A:XPS 13 L322X freezes when on battery

Hi!
This is what I've tried so far without any results: - Update the drivers - Update BIOS - Reinstall Windows 10
- Connect an external monitor and run only through the monitor - Install Ubuntu - Replace the battery with a new one from Dell - Ran a Mem Test and Disk Test, all passed
Do you have any suggestions?
If I need to get a new motherboard / CPU / RAM, where can I get it in the UK?
Thanks!

I still have this issue, this is what happens:

Acer E 15 Start ES1-512-C5YW Upgraded to Windows  Watching Avi files that are stored locally on hard disk - If the Ac power cord is plugged in, all is fine, but if power cord is removed and just running on battery power, within minutes, the laptop locks up completely and makes a buzzing noise, no option but to hard reset. Simple solution would be to leave power cord plugged in I know, but I like to keep my battery conditioned by not leaving it plugged in all the time. If it had a removable battery, I'd remove the battery and use power cord, but it's not got removable battery. Any ideas please?

Hello all,I just got finished repairing an HP Elitebook 6930p. All is well except for a fatal flaw-- the computer will instantly freeze indefinitely if I unplug it, and if I boot the system on the battery, it won't log on to Windows-- it'll just freeze. I have tried using different batteries and I've tried numerous hard resets. What could the problem be? I don't think it's a software proble, because even when I was installing Windows it froze a couple of times because I had unplugged it. I really do need help with this, as the battery is absolutely essential to a laptop (of course it is) and there shouldn't be any reason that this computer should only be used on AC power. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR38E_S and the touchpad freezes when recharging and battery is full, it's a pain to keep switching to charge and back because the touchpad won't function when AC has fully charged battery until I unplug AC from laptop or power supply.

Is there a way to fixing this or is it a glitch in the laptop?

Thanks

Hi everyone

I bought a OEM battery for my tecra and now the laptop freezes during boot (the screen stays black with an underscore blinking) with the battery plugged in.
I have to remove the battery, connect the AC adapater, turn on the laptop and, only after it loads windows, then plug the battery.

Any idea?

Thank you

A:Tecra M10 freezes during boot with new OEM battery

> I bought a OEM battery for my tecra and now the laptop freezes during boot (the screen stays black with an underscore blinking) with the battery plugged in.

In most cases the blinking underscore is related to faulty HDD or RAM issue.
In my case the HDD was faulty and therefore I got similar notebook symptom.

I?m not quite sure where the connection between blinking underscore and the new battery is but the whole computer world is really strange sometimes and many strange things can happen? so maybe the new battery is faulty?

Did you notice this issue with the old battery?
If not, then I would recommend testing other battery? maybe it helps?
