I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hp Envy Phoenix 810 sometimes when inactive, for varying time lengths crashes/goes into sleep mode/switches off on its own. Sleep mode and hibernation mode disabled and already spoke to HP and done all the obvious checks. Is it now likely this a hardware fault, has been doing this almost since purchase date. Very frustrated and any help would be much appreciated, still under guarantee. Daz.

I'd like to upgrade the firmware on my 800-089 hard disk (SSD) but I cannot make the computer boot from a USB key. I have tested the USB key on another computer and it is working fine. I did change the BIOS settings such as boot order, security and legacy but nothing worked so far. I'm out of ideas...

This is a peer to peer help forum. The only presence that HP has on it are the Admins and the Mods. Otherwise, none of us works for HP. I have a HP Phoenix 860-170VR (you can review the specs) that has similar specs to the 860-019.  In fact, it has a HDD instead of a SSD.  It is a very nice computer with good system performance.  HP has loaned it to me so I can help members with their problems.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 019. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I turn on the defrag and Optimized my c drive as you advised me but my question is also are there other changes I might need to change to get more speed out of this SSD drive?  My PC had Windows 8.1 Pro when I first got it and here on the HP support Form I found a list of steps to change, but I have not found this list in my files yet. Are you saying that Windows 10 has been changed in this issue that it makes all changes from a standard drive to a SSD drive,so we don't need to do anything?Thank You for your Help...Dan

I bought the HP phoenix 860-019 a couple of weeks ago and from day 1 it freezes up. There is no one particular thing I am doing, it is very random. Could be 10 mins into use or a couple hours.  All drivers are up to date. I have read that the nvidia 860 card that is installed has issues with windows 10 but don't see any fixes. That drive is up to date as well.  This was a refurbished computer could that be the issue?  Should I reinstall windows? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a new HP Envy Phoenix desktop and when I try to hook it up to the HP LED Backlit monitor, the monitor boots and then goes to sleep. I hooked the monitor up to a different PC and it was fine. I tried both the VGA and HDMI ports - no luck. I'm wondering if I have a bad card. Has anyone had this problem? The PC is new but sat in the box for 7 months. How do I get support from HP?

Hello Klutzydrummer, I know you have looked through the log files to see the crashes but do you know what driver is causing the blue screen crashes. If I may make a suggestion if it does not show it you can download bluescreenViewer from NirSoft and that will tell you which kind of blue screens you are getting and where they are coming from. Once having those it will be easier to see if this is software (and where) or if it is a hardware issues.  Thanks

Have an HP Envy dv7 running Windows 8 64 bit.  Have only had the laptop a month and was fine to start but now the computer quickly enters sleep mode in as little as 2 minutes from walking away from it.  Am using the high performance power settings and have ensured that the dimming/turning screen off/put computer to sleep are set at 10/20/120min respectively.  The laptop wakes as soon as I swipe my finger on the reader but is annoying to constantly find it alseep in as little time it takes to go to the kitchen to get a drink. Also had it go to sleep on me while in the midst of reading a web page.  Have only added MS Office and Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird for additional programs since I purchased it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Envy dv7 enters sleep mode unexpectedly.

Hi,this is common and reported by many windows 8 users. how your PC will go into sleep again depends on how you wake it up.can you try wakeup your PC using power button and leave it for sometime - check if it still enters Sleep mode in the same time or this time as per your power Plan? you may need to create new power plans to get rid of this issue. because several updates from Microsoft/HP power assistant change the power settings of PC. which possibly causes the issue.what i can suggest is, create a new power plan and make sure hybrid sleep is disabled aswell. Hope it helps. Good Luck !!!!

Hi!  I purchased an Envy x360 m6-ar004dx recently and so far it has been a decent laptop.  One thing that has been a nuisance is that when I lay my laptop on its side (rotated 90deg, lid opened and not in tablet mode), the laptop enters sleep mode after X amount of minutes.  At times, the laptop is does not go into sleep mode when it is on its side, however, it enters sleep mode when I retreive my laptop from the aforementioned position.  It seems like the accelerometer is triggering sleep mode when rotated in either direction.  I reviewed all of my Power Options and ensured that the computer does not enter sleep mode when plugged in.  Are there any settings I can modify to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance!

A:HP Envy desktop with Windows 10 will not sleep

Greetings, Is your product an HP Envy 700-210xt? Could not locate a 700-200xt system. I can't solve the sleep issue. I can tell you I have an Envy 810-150se that shipped with Win 8.1 and also has a Pegatron motherboard, not the same product as your system, but similar, if your system is a 700-210xt. I could never get the PC to sleep using Win 10. I ran energy reports on Win 10 with no conclusive results. Could never isolate the offending process or device driver causing the problem. The 810 sleeps as expected on Win 8.1 and Win 7 Pro. I suspect it is a Microsoft supplied driver problem. HP will not support Win 10 on this system and Microsoft will deflect. I gave up and switched to Win 7. Oh, you could try troubleshooting steps found here. They did not help. Cheers!

Hey guys, My computer went dead so I had to format and reinstall windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. Everything is working fine when i actually use the computer. But there is an issue when i put it to sleep mode. The computer always successfully enters sleep mode, but it has issues starting back up after sleep mode. When i put the computer to sleep, i close the lid, and when i open it back up, it should turn on windows again.
What is happening, is that when I do open the lid, instead of returning to windows, it goes through the boot process, then says that windows didnt shut down properly and asks me to "start windows normally" or boot into safe mode. I dont want this to keep happening, what do i do?

this has been happening since the last MS update (about a week ago) - before that no problems

any suggestions how to fix this issue?

thanks - reasoner

A:Sleep mode crashes PC

If you suspect it was caused by a particular update you would go into the Control Panel>Programs & Features and click on the "View installed updates" option in order to see that one removed. Another fast option is to roll the system back with the system restore feature prior to when the problem was first being seen in case it wasn't from any update but another problem.

Those would be the first two options to start with in case of a bad install of one or more updates or some other registry error now being seen. Have you installed any other new programs or driver updates lately which could also account for this?

I re-installed Windows about 2 months ago to see if it would help with this problem and eventually I got back to the same errors. Since the errors are very sporadic it is hard to connect them with any specific application however I got a feeling that when I installed ITunes and later Adobe Photoshop CS4, the problems got worse. This is just a feeling I have and don't have any hard evidence to connect them. If I uninstall these apps, it doesn't help the problem.

Please note regarding the drivers, just today I installed the latest NVidia graphics drivers to see if it would help. However they introduced some other problems and I may have to revert back to my original drivers. Specifically, the NVidia control panel always hangs and had trouble finding and configuring my external monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW LCD monitor connected to the analog VGA port.

The dump file that you uploaded blames yk62x64.sys - a component of your Marvell Yukon networking card's drivers.

Please download a fresh copy from the Marvell website
Then uninstall the current copy
Then install the fresh copy

Additionally, these drivers are older and should be updated from the manufacturer's website:

I have a new Asus S400CA that came with Windows 8 and I updated to 8.1 out of the box. The computer crashes when it goes into sleep mode probably 1 out of 3 times. I have tried updating all the drivers, including the wireless driver. I have it set to make minidumps but they aren't being created anymore (last one was on 12/5). Usually I get no indication that the computer crashes but it takes a long time to boot back up, although occasionally it will say Windows encountered a problem and has to restart.

I am also getting a ton of Schannel 36888 errors, although I don't know if that's related.

I have no idea, here is my dump file as per instructions posted in thread. I figured out that it blue screens when it goes into sleep mode (even though I can't see it on the screen, the laptop just goes dark) then shuts off.

Is Windows 7 . . . Toshiba Satellite
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 32 bit
- the original installed OS on the system? XP
- an OEM or full retail version? Full Retail
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 4 Years Old
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 2 Months

Hi, like the title says, my laptop crashes whenever it goes into sleep mode. If I close my laptop it's supposed to go into sleep mode, but when I close it it will just freeze and crash. After about 30 min of inactivity my computer is supposed to go into sleep mode. When it goes into sleep mode this way it still crashes and shuts down. I have no idea why it does it and it's pretty frustrating. If anyone could help me i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hi,

I actually have two problems. First, when I try to restart the computer after hybernation, I get a blue screen with error listings. I have to shut down and reboot, sometimes more than once before I can restart Windows.

2. I have a Nokia Lumia phone that uses Zune to connect to my computer; however, I get an error message in Zune that says that 'My video hardware isn't compatible with Zune' but, I can't find the video hardware in Device Manager.

A:Computer crashes after sleep mode

The video hardware is under 'Display adapters'. Click on the '+' sign at the side of 'Display adapters' and it will open up to show you your video hardware, and indicate if there are any problems with it.

Apart from that, it is a little difficult to help much further without knowing what sort of computer you have. So - make and model please and what version of Windows you are running. And, once you find it in 'Device manager' - what video card have you got ?

My computer used to go into sleep mode with no problems. I recently wiped the hard drive and did a clean install of Windows XP Pro w/SP2.

Now when I put it in sleep mode, it goes in just fine, but when I bring it back out, it brings up the wallpaper with no icons or taskbar or anything else. Then after about 30 seconds, I get the blue screen of death and have to force it off. It will hibernate with no problems.

I tried a repair which looked like it was adding files, but it still won't go into sleep mode.

Any suggestions as to what I can check?

Multiple times when ive put my laptop into sleep mode it has crashed when I turn it back on. It does not do it every time, just majority. Once after I have turned my laptop off normally and then turned it back on I got the windows has crashed message. I did not post any Bios as i did not know what program I should use.

Hi Darf,

Please post your laptop brand name/model, and specs to the best of your knowledge. Since your system crashes, does the laptop get a BSOD? Would it be possible to post the BSOD error?

Hi all Over the last week my laptop has started to occasionally crash and switch off when it's in sleep mode - after this happens it won't turn on when the power button is pushed it'll only work again when it's plugged in Once it's switched on again I get the black screen that tells me it wasn't shut down properly I've followed several of the suggestions I've seen on various threads the power settings upon closing lid are set at 'sleep' hybrid sleep is switched off I keep it well ventilated the Laptop during sleep mode crashes drivers and BIOS are updated and still it happens I haven't done anything significantly different on the laptop no new installations or updates that I can remember it runs perfectly fine on battery power when it's awake nothing else at all seems wrong I only updated drivers and BIOS Laptop crashes during sleep mode etc after the first Laptop crashes during sleep mode few times this happened I'm sure it's significant that the laptop is usually fine in sleep mode even on battery power and wakes up properly if it's been sat still in one place and it only seems to crash while I'm moving it i e the power light is on when I pick the laptop up I carry it to another room set it down and the light has gone off Also in one instance after moving it I successfully woke the laptop from sleep went to plug it in and when I looked it again it had turned off It's still under warranty for another days so I plan to take it in to be checked I'm not smart enough to start taking apart a laptop much less actually understand how to fix it but until I can get to the store next week I'd really like to know what this could be

A:Laptop crashes during sleep mode

its a dell....'nuff said!

haha sorry couldn't resist!

more than likely the issue is a faulty harddrive does it knock off when you carry it normally? as in not in sleep mode?
best to just take it in and get a tech to explain it to you since its under warrenty, seems like an unusual problem only thing i can think of is a fragile drive
good luck and hopefully they will fix it or at least replace it.

Hi Everybody,
I have a brand new Inspiron 24 7000 Series (Model 7459) with Windows 10. After an hour or so in sleep mode, the computer crashes.
Also, if I put it in sleep mode and awaken it in a few minutes, the computer comes back with the spacebar key stuck (the cursor flies across Notepad) and when I try to click the Windows start icon, it only opens the Cortana menu. After a few minutes this behavior stops and every functions normally.
Any ideas?
Regards

A:Inspiron 7459 Crashes In Sleep Mode

We bought a Dell Inspiron 7000 (Model 7459) as a gift for my wife. When it enters sloop mode the power button turns yellow/orange and won't come out of sleep not matter what I try. I have to unplug the machine to restart it.
I've also had an instance where the computer simply shutdown while my wife was typing. Overall, my wife is happy with it, but the sleep mode issue is starting to gnaw at the nerves.

A:Windows 7 Only Crashes Coming Out of Sleep Mode

These crashes were caused by memory corruption (probably a driver). Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!
1-Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

2-Driver verifier

Quote:
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

A:Computer crashes when waking up from sleep mode.

If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Possible causes are Memory problems... Corrupted hard disk system files... Corrupted System Files... Lack of Windows updates... Antivirus Software...Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors. Post back if it continues to show errors after the third run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations.

Install all remaining updates through Windows Updates.
Thanks to Dave76 for help understanding possible causes.

What antivirus are you using?

About ever 2nd or 3rd time I send my desktop into sleep mode, the display goes black, there appears to be disk activity for approx 10 mins until the system figures out there a problem and powers down. Everything works fine when I reboot. Windows states that it was unexpectedly shut down but irt resumes and everything is OK. It usually goes to sleep fine for 1 or more times, but then on the 3rd or 4th time it goes to sleep it crashes again. Any ideas?

- System has latest service pack and all security and windows updates are up to date
- Motherboard is a Asus P8P67 Pro with 16GB DRAM

Attached are the SF Diagnostic files

Even after two clean installs, Windows 7 still crashes when my computer goes into sleep mode. I used the Windows debugging tool (Windbg) to isolate the cause. The analysis of the minidump file is attached as a pdf file. It shows a driver for the network adapter is causing the problem. I rolled the driver back, and thought that would be solution, but I'm still getting the crash. The Intel site says this driver is for Windows 7 and the Windows Update identified the older (rolled back) driver as the correct driver.

I'd appreciate any help anyone might be able to offer.

Thanks

Hello,

I have been seeing BSODs randomly ever since I got this laptop. Usually, it is seen after the laptop resumes from sleep i.e it has been put to sleep and I power it back on. I have attached the zip file that has multiple crashes - hope someone on this forum will be able to help me decode them, and hope there is a common reason for the crashes. Please help on this.

Some more details:
Laptop make: lenovo ideapad
processor : i7 2.2 Ghz
graphics card : nvidia geforce
memory : 8gb.

Please let me know if any more info. is needed from me.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,

McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD-s, consider uninstalling it with the McAfee Removal Tool and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials (To test)How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)McAfee Removal Tool - McAfee Uninstaller

Microsoft Security Essentials. Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software. It is free and lightweight:-

I've actually had this problem for a while, I really should have taken care of it sooner. It is mostly because I found ways around it, which probably aren't too good for my computer. If I leave music running in the background and put the computer to sleep then the error won't occur. Needless-to-say - and as the title says- The system crashes upon waking up from sleep mode. The screen turns blue and says: "Sorry, your computer encountered an error and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you" The results from the diagnostic test have been attached

System recoveries and restores haven't worked, hence the reason why I've sort of given up on the problem until now. I'll be thankful with any sort of help!

Hi Kaebuscus & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

Unfortunately the ZIP file uploaded by you does not contain any Dump files to analyze and lacks certain other reports as well

Please follow the instructions carefully over here :-

and follow the Option 1.

Make sure you let the app run for at least 15 minutes or till it says that it has completed it's work.

Recently when entering sleep mode, the laptop does not go to sleep but crashes. When I go to restart the laptop, I get the windows as recovered from an unexpected shut down.

However I have noticed it does not crash, when I first turn the laptop on and at the choose user screen. Here it goes to sleep fine and resumes fine, any other situation and it crashes.

this has started over night, any ideas?

Thanks

I've had my computer for a little bit over a year now and it has worked fine. But now when I select sleep mode, the computer turns off the monitor but the fans are still going, it shows no sign of actually sleeping. Most of the time I can't get back to the login screen because the monitor remains black, so I have to force shutdown. If I leave the computer alone, it will eventually crash, so when I turn it back on it says the computer has recovered from blue screen.

I have read several threads but none managed to solve my problem. Some threads said video cards seem to be the problem but when I disabled my video card, the computer still couldn't sleep.

Sometimes, the computer does manage to go into sleep mode but its completely random.

Security Software: ??? Make sure to install security software. I recommend either of these:Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows coupled with Malwarebytes. Do not start the free trial of Malwarebytes. Just use the standalone version, update it, and scan your computer once a week with Malwarebytes and with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Good and Free system security combination.

After installing your security software, update it, and then run full scans today with each program. Report back the results of the scans.

I do see remnants of ESET NOD32; is it still installed? It is not running...

USB2.0 UVC VGA WebCam USB\VID_13D3&PID_5120&MI_00\7&431E42E&0&0000 This device is disabled.
Are the above intentional? If so, please provide an explanation so we can understand your troubleshooting steps.
Your crashes were old, but may still be helpful. The .dmp indicates graphics card related problems. I do notice an ATI overclocking utility installed that will not work with Windows 7 and may cause instability. Graphics card related problems can be caused by your DirectX/graphics card. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.
Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.
Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
Click Start Menu
Click Control Panel
Click Uninstall a program
For NVIDIA:Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
Restart your computer
Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed

Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

Remember to try multiple versions of the graphics drivers, download them fresh, and install the freshly downloaded drivers.

I've been having trouble with Windows 7, Some chipset thing or something, So I decided to upgrade to windows 8, So far I love it, But when I take my laptop out of sleep mode it flashes a bsod, so I don't get enough time to see it.
It's not that much of a problem, but it's just very inconvenient.

Hello, I have an issue that ha happened twice where when I put my pc in sleep mode for an extended period, both time it's been overnight so ~8 hours I come back to find the pc running and at my log-on screen. When i log-in a window comes up saying the pc recovered from a blue screen crash.

Can someone tell me where to go to capture details of the crash's so i can post that here and possible find the root cause? Would it be in the event log? Im a novice at this so thanks in advance!

A:PC crashes when in sleep mode for extended period

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:

*Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl Press Enter.
*Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery - Settings... button.
*Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
*Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kb) in the drop down box (the 256kb varies).
*Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
*OK.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude E6420 with an Intel Core i7 processor and 4gb of RAM. Lately, my computer has become very sluggish; especially after coming out of sleep mode to the point I have to restart to have a decent performance. More importantly, often when in sleep mode or hibernation, the computer crashes.

I've run two spyware programs (spybot and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware) which removed a few issues, but the core problems persist.

I've updated all microsoft programs (windows and office), run Norton virus scans, and CCleaner, but no change.

Finally, I must say that at times the laptop runs really hot. That was never the case before.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Francisco

Most of the time for he past few months whenever I set my PC to go into sleep mode, I get a BSoD, and the computer will either reset or shutdown. I will sometimes also get a BSod when I try to shutdown normally as well, although this has occurred less often, mostly because I prefer to Sleep than Shutdown. I've gotten around this lately by simply leaving my computer on at night in a performance power mode, but obviously this isn't particularly ideal.
I think this is most likely a driver issue, but I don't know how I would go about trying to fix this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

About a week ago my computer BSOD'd on me in the middle of the day Prior to the BSOD I had noticed an unusual amount of slow down on the screen refresh when watching a video Since that BSOD anytime I put my computer into sleep mode I cannot wake it up I have to physically restart it Windows has on all occasions that I put it to sleep saved a minidump file for the crash I am not sure if this is related to the BSOD or not but figured more information is better than less even if it is irrelevant For the last crashes BSOD, mode going into and sleep when computer month or so I have been seeing visual refresh problems with my computer I would move a file from one folder to another amp the folders would not refresh If i hit f BSOD, and computer crashes when going into sleep mode on the folder to force a refresh the change would appear Please note -- the files were moving It was simply not showing them move

So I wake the computer out of sleep mode and use it for a few minutes but get this message soon afterwards (along with the computer freezing).

1. The computer "slows down," music/video lags, mouse response also lags
2. Screen goes black for a few seconds
3. Screen returns to normal, but mouse and keyboard not functional aka "frozen"
4. Message pops up: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 196.21 stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
5. Since I still cannot do anything, I must do a hard reboot.

Apparently, despite this message, the driver has NOT successfully recovered, or at the very least, hasn't fully recovered.

What could be causing this problem? I am using S3 Sleep Mode.

I ordered a new HP Envy Phoenix 860st yesterday and was wondering if anyone else has taken the plunge on this same model? This will be my first HP after 15+ years of buying Dell computers. I actually looked at Dell but they offered almost zero customization to their XPS line. Anyhow, I'm just curious to hear from others who also purchased this model. Good, bad or indifferent. I should mention my current PC is a Dell XPS running Windows Vista and it has been 8 years since my last upgrade. However, I have upgraded my previous PC with a newer graphics card, SSD drive and maxed out the RAM. This was all in an attempt to squeeze as much life out of it as possible, but unfortunately the time has come to move on from it. Feel free to drop a note on your experience and any caveats. Thanks!

@Mr_Blue_860st? Welcome to the HP Forum. HP doesn?t have an official presence on this forum other than for administration and moderation. The assistance that you receive is mainly from volunteers. The HP 860st has some excellent specifications and configuration options.   I hope that you bought the model that is on sale.

I have been regulary plauged with the following issue. Rebooting 1-2X usually fixes it. I go to power the system up and the fan starts up like a blowdryer and has a loud high pitched whine. at this point the PC refuses to boot. When I recognize this starting I force it to power down by holding the power button for 7-8 seconds.  The last attempt to boot the pc lead to the same symptoms but, rebooting did not fix it and it will not boot. By St. Boogar waiting at the backside door of purgatory, I have had way to many issues with this "gaming" PC. When I initially ordered this last november the mobo fried within 5 days of use. I don't even bother overclocking things. TLDR: I am frustrated by this recuring issue, Please help.

Unboxed it. Plugged everything in. Turned it on. The machine crashed several times within a few minutes. Take your pick from "System Thread Exception", "System Service Exception", "Kernel security check failure", "DPC Watchdog Violation", "Kmode exception not handled" and "Windows hasn't loaded correctly". It must have crashed 30 times within the first hour. I reinstalled Windows from the machine and... it all happened all over again. Clearly no one in the factory quality controlled this machine. Shameful from a brand like HP. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

A:How can I run a third monitor on HP Envy Phoenix 860-010

Update: When I run two monitors, one connected to the HDMI port and the other to a DisplayPort through the DisplayPort to DVI passive adapter cable, it works fine. So the cable itself is OK.  It's only when I attempt to run a third monitor through that cable that it fails. I suspect NVIDIA support was wrong when they said a passive adapter would work for a third monitor.  I've heard of a video card that works fine with a passive adapter for the first two monitors but requires an active adapter for the third.  I was hoping the NVIDIA GTX 960 was not like that.  Does anybody know for sure? Also, the precise sequence of boot messages with the third monitor is: 1. Preparing Automatic Repair screen.2. Diagnosing Your PC screen.3. Automatic Repair screen with message "Windows couldn't load correctly"

My Precision 7510 crashes when attempting to go to Sleep mode. When I attempt to recover from Sleep, I get the "Windows has recovered from a serious error" screen and the entire system has to reboot.
Dell Command Update tells me everything is up-to-date (including updated BIOS), and Windows Update says the same thing. If this is a driver issue, I'll have to roll back to a previous version. I have not run a BIOS Diagnostic yet, but I will.
What logs should I be looking at to diagnose this issue? What steps should I be taking/what driver update should I be rolling back to resolve this?

A:Precision 7510 - crashes on applying Sleep mode

Hi VIRTUOUSBROTHER,
What is the current OS version installed on the system - check in command prompt -> systeminfo?
When did the issue start? Does this happen with or without the adapter connected? Is there a specific error code associated with this message? Does this happen on manual sleep or auto sleep or both? Does the system shutdown / restart and hibernate work fine?
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://bit.ly/1JEw2ov
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check. Reinstall the chipset and video drivers from the same site.
If the issue is unresolved, then restart the system and check in safe mode - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c
Create a local admin account and check - http://bit.ly/1JoFhcw
If the issue started after the Win10 Anniversary update - then rollback to the previous version of Windows - http://bit.ly/2buaW5w
Lastly, uninstall the video drivers from device manager and then check if both auto / manual sleep works.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hello all.  I recently bought an Nvida 1060 to replace my old GTX 680.  No problem knowning to to swap out the cards in general, but there was this metal support on the old graphics card as well as holding the wiring together on top of it.  I'm curious if any other 1440 owners have dealt with this.  Did you leave it in?  How do I take it out if I can? There is not a single youtube video or support video of anyone with this model number!  Appreciate all of your help.  To clarify; this isnt the bar that goes across some HP envy models that you can see in the tutorial videos.

Since there is no other brand name or somthing like that visible i was wondering what card it is and why i don't have the card that was "promised" in the productinformation.i hope someone can help me with this question because i get the feeling i got scammed or something. (note; i bought the desktop from HPstore)

The LED lights on the front of my HP Envy Phoenix 860 only change colors in Red and Green even if those colors are not any of the 4 colors I have chosen in the HP Phoenix Control software.  There are no settings or other menus in the Phoenix Control software.  Just the 4 different modes.  Trying each mode the colors never change to anything but Red and Green.  Turining it off and back on has makes no difference either.   Based upon the Programs and Features area the version of HP Phoenix Control software that came installed on my computer is 1.1.1. I know Christmas is coming up but only Red and Green all the time is gonna get old. Thanks for your help. Scott

Hi, I have recently bought a HP Envy Phoenix 860-007ng (purchased in Germany as I am currently living here). My question is around whether the power supply is large enough. Here are the key specs: - IntelŽ Core? i7-4790K-16 GB DDR3 (2 x 8 GB) - NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ GTX 980 Ti (6 GB)- 500 Watt Power Supply-128 GB SATA SSD-2 TB 7200 U/min SATA Having done some research online I understand the 980ti graphics card I have normally needs a larger PSU. My question is why does the computer comes with a 500 watt PSU? And is it worthwhile/possible for me to install a new psu manually? Many thanks for your help! Andy

A:Power Supply on HP Envy Phoenix 860

Greetings, I don't work for HP. You are correct. A 500 W PS should not be able to power a retail version of that graphics card. My guess is Nvidia or a licensee of Nvidia ( EVGA, Gigabyte, Zotac, MSI ) modified the card for HP to work with a 500 W PS. You could replace the PS. I just upgraded to a Corsair RM650X PS in my Envy Phoenix 810-150. It was somewhat of a hassle. Very tight working conditions inside the case. You must measure the existing PS and purchase accordingly.  You would know if you have insufficient power on the 12V rail. It is also possible you are on a tight rope. Adding any additional components could push the power supply to it's limit. Cheers!

Schwaa, welcome to the forum. This was a very good review of how you upgraded your computer.  What you discovered are the problems that are created by a mid-size case.  It would be great if HP would offer a full size case for their gaming computers.  What you accomplished should make a major difference in performance.

I'm trying to connect my two monitors for my new computer, but I'm having no luck. The first monitor is being recognized but the second one isn't. There are three HDMI ports on the back and 3 ports, I'm not sure of. I've tried the other HDMI ports and nothing. Any help would be appciated. Borgbear

Hello, I have some questions about this particular product. I'm interested in possibly ordering one however there are some things I'd like to know first. Does the computer have front installed case fans, what's the efficiency rating of the power supply unit & what other PCI slots other than the ones for the graphics card does the motherboard have?

Hi My PC used to be able to enter and leave sleep mode without any problems then about a couple of months ago it started failing every time whether I command it to sleep or it sleeps BSOD entering a failure when claims crashes PC sleep mode, due to power options I haven't made any manual changes to hardware or software that could have caused it but there have obviously been PC crashes when entering sleep mode, claims a BSOD failure plenty of Windows updates in that time When the PC tries to go to sleep there PC crashes when entering sleep mode, claims a BSOD failure is no visible BSOD It seems to take the usual steps i e warns me about software preventing it from sleeping then shuts them down before the screen goes black but from that point it takes about minutes during which the hard drive activity light flashes most of the time before it finally powers off When I power the PC back on instead of it resuming Windows I get the early boot menu telling me that the system didn't shut down correctly and asking me to choose a normal safe boot Once Windows has loaded I get a quot Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown quot message similar to the following Code Problem signature Problem Event Name BlueScreen OS Version Locale ID Additional information about the problem BCCode f BCP BCP FFFFFA D D BCP FFFFF B A BCP FFFFFA D OS Version Service Pack Product Hitting the quot Check for a solution quot button gives me nothing of use it actually tells me nothing at all usually not even confirming that it's managed to check anything at all I've looked at the minidump but I don't know enough to know what I'm looking at or know whether it's of use Any help would be much appreciated Thanks in advance Neil

i have my phonix envy on my computer desk and because of the hieghth of the tower i can not see the usb and card reader slots, does that mean i have to stand up to use these slots? thanks for your time

A:usb, card reader slots on phoenix envy 850

It is your choice of placement on the desktop. I keep my desktop on ther floor since it is cooler there, even though I use water cooling for my CPU.      Floor placement is normal for the type of desktop PC you have.   Desktop PC is a bit of a misnomer.  It doesn't mean that is where you have to place the PC.   Usually only the convertible desktop PC's are meant to placed on the desktop. The is why the optical drive placement is sideways.

Hi there @MujtabaAhmed?Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you have a blank display on start up and that you have tried a different display and cable. I am happy to help with this. I would suggest that you give this a try. There are a few things that you can probably skip, as you have done them, but otherwise try to do what you can. HP Desktop PCs - Computer Starts but Monitor Remains Blank (Windows 8) Please let me know if that works for you.
