System Reboots but no BSOD or Error message

Q: System Reboots but no BSOD or Error message

Well my system specs are in my profile but I'll put them here for simplicity sake as well.
Asus P5N-T Deluxe
Q6600 @ 3.0 Vcore 1.20v
2 x 2GB Corsair Dominator RAM @ 1066
2 x 8800GT stock
Razer Barracuda AC-1
750watt Corsair PSU
3 HDDs and DVD drive

Okay before you go and say its my overclocked CPU its been oced for months now and the problem has only recently just started. It usually happens when I'm playing a game of some sort but at random times, I played CSS for a good 3 hours then it reboot, other time less than an hour. It has happened most recently when I booted up FEAR 2 and I was was tweaking the games settings, after I had it setup just right and clicked New Game, system reboots. Any thoughts?

Preferred Solution: System Reboots but no BSOD or Error message

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is the video card overheating? Open the case and make sure that all the fans (including video fan) are clean and working properly. I'll try overclocking my Q6600 when I install my new motherboard next week

I have a lenovo u400, my processor is an i5 and it run around 50 C when doing normal browsing. runs at 60-70 C when watching movies or light gaming. My Tj. max is 100 C, never seen it pass 75 C. I just bought my laptop a month ago, so I don't know what's the deal. When I touch the bottom of my laptop is feels pretty cool.

I have ran malwarebytes and MSE and have not found anything. I have also ran a memory test and everything looks fine.

It usually happens when I'm watching a video from a website. My computer just reboots, no bsod or error message. I don't know what to do next. What can I do to troubleshoot this further?

A:Laptop reboots randomly, no bsod or error message

Hi Berkguy

Based on your logs...

Most of shutdown or reboots are caused by your graphics driver... ATI Catalyst.....

Quote:
The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

which is related to

ATI EEU failed to post message to CCC

Suggest you update your ATI drivers from the manufactures website...

and a few are related to system getting really high temperature.

Quote:
Kernal Power .....

ACPI thermal zone ACPI\ThermalZone\TZS0 has been enumerated.

Again since you said .... the laptop looks cool...... and based on the above errors.... i am sure these shutdown were also due the drivers putting the graphics at high temps.....

New to the forums, so please excuse any mistakes.

My system is randomly crashing. No bsod, no error message, just shuts off. Unable to locate any crash dumps at all, and the event viewer lists these following events, nothing useful that I can find:

The previous system shutdown at 6:46:26 PM on ‎10/‎3/‎2010 was unexpected.

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Session "Microsoft-Windows-Setup" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D

Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0.

Have been unable to find any .dmp files, and there is no minidump folder, so unable to provide a minidump. This has been happening for some time now. I can force a crash by playing any game, but it only happens after several minutes in, and it will randomly happen even when doing nothing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:System crashes, no bsod no error message

Please do the following:
1 - force a crash by playing a game. Note the time that the crash occurs at and post it in your next post.
2 - then follow the directions here to make reports (even though you're not having BSOD's): http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

We'll use the time of the crash to help us look for errors in the different reports.

Hello. My computer has been rebooting randomly. This happened shortly after I had followed some instructions to remove aurora/nail.exe. After successfully removing the spyware, the computer would reboot during the logon screen and also after logging in to a profile. Reading a similar thread, I had unchecked "Automatically restart..." and upon doing so I had recieved the blue screen which displayed the following technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80560BBD, 0xF87B5984, 0x00000000)

Running Windows XP service pack 1

I hope this will help identify my problem. If I have failed to mention any other information, please let me know. Thank you.

it doesn't happen every time i start up my comp. only sometimes. i'll start up my comp and get into windows and it'll reboot itself or when i start aol. i'm computer illiterate when it comes to this kinda stuff so if anyone wants me to private message the images of the error report to them and can give me a simple way to fix it that would be great. when i sent the error to microsoft it sent me to this page

A:my comp reboots itself and i get this error message

Its probably not going to be a simple fix if your system is riddled with spyware/malware. Lets rule that out first.

Lets do some house cleaning

Scan your pc with one of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall. Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

After using those programs Make sure that your Operating System and Internet Explorer are up-to-date by visiting the Windows Update Site and downloading all of the Critical Updates and Service Packs.

Let me know if it has helped

Hi I m having a huge problem and I don t Error No Message Whatsoever Random Reboots And know if it is hardware or software related The error can not be reproduced it happens in an seemingly random manner it doesn t matter if the PC is doing something or not The symptom is pretty straight forward every day at least once the PC reboots as in reset without warning I ve read many arcticles on the interwebs and tried most of those solutions The Random Reboots And No Error Message Whatsoever problem first occured with a different windows installation So I put up the system from the beginning thinking it was related to malware or the likes So what I did from the beginning is - format C drive - installed newest BIOS for my mainboard thinking it could be a virus in there - pulled network plug - installed windows XP professional all updates for SP SP and finally all updates for SP from winhelpline - network still unplugged installed ESET NOD - installed spybot and firefox network plugged in again update to all program - ran the following programs a-squared Free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Spybot - Search amp Destroy SpywareBlaster McAfee Stinger Thinking the problem should be gone it happend again - bought new memory because that seemed to be the most obvious choice Well that didn t resolve the problem either So here I am today having to live with these annoying reboots which hurt my hard drive The only things left I can think of are - some rootkit or malware - maybe the power supply has some sort of defect W which should be enough - bought a used graphics card ATI X PCIE which is the only new hardware before this started happening Now I don t have a clue on how to proceed and get rid of this error

A:Random Reboots And No Error Message Whatsoever

Try the steps here to locate any error messages: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry409491If there aren't any error messages in those locations, then most likely the crash is occurring below the threshold that Windows can recognize. The problem that you describe is most likely heat related - but could be with almost any component of your system. It's likely that it occurs when a program stresses a particular piece of hardware - so figuring out what's running at the time that it crashes is the most likely way to start to isolate it. This includes not only the programs that you're using, but also any scheduled tasks that may execute at that time.

I can find very little info pertaining to the system crashes/BSODs.Crash dumps are apparently not being created: The reason is not clear, as the system settings are configured to record and save the dumps. It will therefore be necessary for you to record and post details that you see on-screen of the BSOD error messages. Please disable "automatic restart on system failure":How To Disable the Automatic Restart on System Failure in Windows 7When the system crashes, it will not re-start: Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.
Record the error message details (contained in the areas outlined in red, in the above example image), and post in a reply. It does seem likely that there may be a serious hardware issue and the system is unable to record and save the crash dumps. I would like to know whether or not you actually do get to see a BSOD error message at all.

Hi After I've booted up and logged into Windows bit my computer runs without hiccup but once a random amount of time has passed haven't timed it with freezes, and reboots Windows error eventually message. visible no maybe Windows freezes, and eventually reboots with no visible error message. an hour or so the current program stops responding followed by Windows CTRL ALT DEL doesn't work once this has happened I even got a dialog box once saying Windows couldn't access the task manager and I should reboot If I leave the computer be for Windows freezes, and eventually reboots with no visible error message. a while it eventually reboots itself and then tells me Windows did not properly shut down After that it's business as normal until it happens again There's no error box or BSOD nothing that gives me any sort of code that would indicate what specifically is going wrong Prior to Windows freezes, and eventually reboots with no visible error message. this happening a game on my computer ran an update which crashed my computer in this manner and I thought it was the culprit However uninstalling the game yielded no results I have tried to fix this by reinstalling Windows during which I formatted ALL my partitions This didn't solve it unfortunately I have monitored my CPU temperature and it peaked at C when it crashed so overheating seems unlikely My only trains of thought are hardware failure of some kind or BIOS related Any thoughts

Hi,

I just installed Win 7 64 Professional retail on a new OCZ SSD. I have been having issues with the system rebooting & I was convinced it was the old SSD. Since i have come back to my PC twice within 12 hours to find it had "recovered from a serious error", I am wondering if its something else (ram)?

Any ideas what it could be?

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 64 bit
- the original installed OS on the system? Windows 7 Pro 64
- an OEM or full retail version? Retail
- What is the age of system (hardware)? Brand new build
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 24 hours

I7 960 processor
12 gigs ram (I bought a 6gig pack twice by mistake)
Asus P6X58D Premium mobo
OCZ Agility2 60 gig drive
ATI HD5XXX video card.

Thanks,
Rich

A:BSOD - Constant reboots on new system

First, please visit the Asus support website and download/install the latest version of the ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver - it'll either be under the ATK or the Utility sections on the downloads page. The version on your system now (from 2005) is a known BSOD cause in Windows 7. Then see if you continue to get BSOD's.

One of the errors is a STOP 0x109 - and it's commonly associated with memory problems (RAM, CPU, mobo, video memory). As such I'd start with these free diagnostics:

Quote:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Malware (read the details at the link)

Then, if the above tests pass, I'd try these free stress tests:

Quote:
FurMark download site: FurMark: Graphics Card Stability and Stress Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net
FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

Quote:
Prime95 download site: Free Software - GIMPS
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead. (run all 3 if you find a problem and note how long it takes to error out with each)
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
This won't necessarily crash the system - but check the output in the test window for errors.
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

The second error is a STOP 0x3B - and is commonly associated with driver issues - so I'd suggest running Driver Verifier according to these instructions:

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

A:The system has recovered from a serious error and reboots over and over

You may get an answer here, but you may find it helpful to move to the BSOD area.
?Or one of the mods may move your thread?

Click here for the BSOD area

Be sure to read the stickies at the top.
If or when you repost there, attach a zip with up to 5 of your most recent minidump files.
You will find them in your minidump sub-folder within your Windows folder.

The error code you report suggests misbehaving software or incompatible drivers. Therefore...
It will be helpful if you can tell us what has been recently added or changed, just prior to the problem starting.
The minidumps will provide further diagnostic information.

Hi misplacedparado and welcome to TSF !

You already did a good part of the troubleshooting, random restarts are indeed often caused by faulty ram, heat or an unsufficient power supply.

Go to the event viewer (start => run => eventvwr.msc), check the different sections there and report any warning or error you see. Tell us about the source, the event ID and paste the text you see under description when you double-click the event (right-click => copy doesn't work there so use ctrl+c instead).

What are the brands and models of your hard drives ? I would run the manufacturer's diagnostics utility on each one of them.

I would also rerun memtest86+ and windiag on each ram stick individually (remove the other sticks and test each stick in the slot it's meant to stay) to make sure it's not a faulty ram slot on your motherboard. To burn the memtest86+ bootable iso you'll need a software that's able to handle such .iso files, most can but windows explorer's integrated feature can't. To boot the computer on the CD repeatedly press the del key during startup to enter the bios and change the boot priority to CD-rom first. Let memtest run at least 3 full passes, and windiag run for 2-3 hours on each stick.

Hi all. This is my attempt to resolve this problematic PC. This is a machine donated by my family and it has not run well since day 1. There are many times it will just reboot and when I am lucky, it goes to BSOD and I get a minidump. I do not understand any of the things I read when I ran the WhoCrashed application I installed. So here I am, asking for help.

I have attached the minidumps in a zip in this thread and will follow up with another file from the DM Log Collector.

Thanks in advance for reading this and trying to resolve this.

cheers

Welcome to TSF.

Download the Malicious Software Removal Tool and run it. See if it will patch up the security hole there. It's probably Sasser related.

A:System reboots daily after snagit event error???

It is doubtful that SnagIt is causing the reboots of your system, the error messages listed are harmless.

If you still would like to to keep it from starting to narrow down the cause, find your Startup folder and simply remove the SnagIt icon.

The other option is to start SnagIt, go to the Tools menu, then Program Preferences, then the Program Options tab. Uncheck "Run SnagIt when Windows starts".

A:Kernel power error 41 system reboots automatically

No evidence of BSOD's - so this is most likely a hardware issue (IMO)

Try this:
Open the case (don't go inside the case!) and run the system until it crashes.
Unplug the system from the wall, grab hold of a piece of metal on the case with one hand.
With the other hand CAREFULLY poke around inside the case. Check the video card, CPU, northbridge, southbridge, and RAM (at a minimum). If you find anything that's likely to burn your finger, make a note of that.

Beyond that, I see lot's of errors for a udom and udom_microdom.cpp
They seem related to this - but I have no clue what it is: http://www.w3.org/TR/SVGMobile12/svgudom.html

So I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my machine about the beginning of August.

Every so often my machine will randomly reboot and after its done I do have a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" message.

This is what's included for the codes:

BCCode : 24
BCP1 : 001902FE
BCP2 : B6C83620
BCP3 : B6C8331C
BCP4 : 804ED694
OSVer : 5_1_2600

This is rather annoying but unfortunately I don't know how to look up these codes to fix these issues. If more info is needed, please let me know and I would be happy to provide it.

A:[SOLVED] Random Reboots/BSOD Crashes (Various Error messages)

Hi,

We have two frequent bug checks:

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a)

This indicates that a severe memory management error occurred.

BugCheck 1A, {31, ffffe000020c77d0, ffffd00022aae000, ffffc00008db96b8}

- The 1st parameter of the bug check is 31 which indicates the image relocation fix-up table or code stream has been corrupted. This is probably a hardware error.

In addition to 31 as the 1st parameter, we also have 41792 in another dump which indicates a corrupted PTE has been detected.

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM (24)

This indicates a problem occurred in ntfs.sys, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS drives.

One possible cause of this bug check is disk corruption. Corruption in the NTFS file system or bad blocks (sectors) on the hard disk can induce this error. Corrupted SCSI and IDE drivers can also adversely affect the system's ability to read and write to disk, thus causing the error.

Another possible cause is depletion of nonpaged pool memory. If the nonpaged pool memory is completely depleted, this error can stop the system. However, during the indexing process, if the amount of available nonpaged pool memory is very low, another kernel-mode driver requiring nonpaged pool memory can also trigger this error.

Run Memtest for NO LESS than ~8 passes (several hours). If it passes, run chkdsk (paste log afterwards) and then Seatools:

Memtest86+:

Download Memtest86+ here:

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Which should I download?

You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

How Memtest works:

Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.

The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps for 90 minutes before checking to see if bits have changed (perhaps because of refresh problems). This is repeated with all ones for a total time of 3 hours per pass.

Many chipsets can report RAM speeds and timings via SPD (Serial Presence Detect) or EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles), and some even support changing the expected memory speed. If the expected memory speed is overclocked, Memtest86 can test that memory performance is error-free with these faster settings.

Some hardware is able to report the "PAT status" (PAT: enabled or PAT: disabled). This is a reference to Intel Performance acceleration technology; there may be BIOS settings which affect this aspect of memory timing.

This information, if available to the program, can be displayed via a menu option.

Any other questions, they can most likely be answered by reading this great guide here:

After solving "ntldr is missing" problem,I boot the computer.THen computer ask me to choose the operating system to start. Its screen displays following message:

select the operating system to start:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice

If I choose Microsoft Windows XP Professional, error mesages will appear as below:
STOP :c000021a{Fatal System Error}
The Session Manager Initialization System process terminated
unexpectedwith a status of 0xc0000034(0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down.

But if I choose Microsoft Windows, there will be message stating "Microsoft Windows I\O Error accessing boot sector file multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\BBTSECT.DOS".

What should I do to solve this fatal system problem? Does fixing "ntldr is missing" problem cause this fatal system error?
Thanks in advance

sub-forum: guides & solved issues

The above forum has information on how to use Recovery Console & Windows XP CD to restore the OS. Caution, I recommend full backup to a 2nd disk. Caution, don't enter 'r' to the first decision point. Caution: next decision made should not reformat the partition. If you have the ability to clone the hard drive, then you have a spare should recovery be re-done.

Other posts recommend configuring computer to a minimum: the boot hard drive, cdrom, and 1 memory module (256MB is the minimum for XP). This is an easier first step before reloading anything.

Caution: oem restore bombs you back to out-of-the-box conditions. All data & applications are overwritten. This is different from above restore.

You did not indicate what significant changes occurred preceding the problem. Is the hard drive entering old age? Was the disk re-partitioned? Were applications closing/freezing in the days leading up to this?

Hi seijuro_hiko

Welcome to TSG!

I have split your post off into your own thread and moved it to the Security foeum. In the future if you have a Question/Problem please start a "New Thread". It get's too confusing trying to address two different people's problem in the same thread and you may get overlooked.
Please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it or UnZip it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

Here is the wording of the error message:

If you deleted this device file on purpose, try un-installing the associated application using it's uninstall or set up program. If you still don't want to use the application assoiciated with this device, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.
C: PROGRA ~1\SYMANTEC/SYMEVNT.386

Since I bought Norton Internet security 2004, it has been a major problem. I have used the RNAV.2003 program to try and remove anything symantec on my PC. But for some reason, the problem is still here.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks.

A:SYSTEM.INI error message

Since you didn't mention what version of windows you use, i'll assume it's windows98.
In that case, check the autoexec.bat and config.sys files for symantec entries ( usualy those are left behind ) and put a rem in front of symantec entry
for instance if you see in the autoexec.bat file the following entry
C:\Progra~1\Symantec\Symevnt.368
put a rem in front of it, and it should look like this
rem C:\Progra~1\Symantec.....
Save and exit.
If that doesn't work , then use the search tool in windows and locate the System.ini file
Once you locate it, go are and open it up with notepad. Once open locate the C:\Progra~1 entry and delete it ( i recomend, making a backup copy of the system.ini file before anything else).
Save and exit ( make sure the file type will be " All files" not " . txt ( since notepad will try to save it as system ini.txt file.

Basic config : MB Asus P5Q3 – SATA3 disks – 4GB RAM

Have been running dual boot Windows XP-SP3 Home and Windows 7 - 32bits for years on this  system I built from scratch.

A few days ago, I got a 7B message in a BSOD when booting under XP. Tried several times. Same result with Safe Mode and „Last good configuration“.

On the other hand, no problem at all with Windows 7. Runs like a charm.

Ran antivirus. Found nothing.  BurnIn Test shows nothing wrong.

Used the XP Installation CD (with F6 option for the ICH10 drivers). Installation goes on and when it gets to the end of  the loading of files, it displays a BSOD with the 0xc000000e.

Fell back on a cloned system disk, 2 months old: same result with the 7B message in a BSOD.

Any idea on what could be wrong?

A:Odd 7B message with BSOD on a dual boot system

Well...unless you have each O/S on two different hard drives...running XP to repair boot files is NOT what you want to do.

When Win 7 is installed after XP...the Win 7 bootloader takes over.  It writes the boot files for booting both systems.

So I would try to repair the boot files, from Win 7.  I could use the Win 7 DVD or something like EasyBCD, matter of choice.

If you installed XP after Win 7 install...that's uncharted territory for me .

Louis

I also dual-boot XP/Win 7.

A:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

I recently replaced an ailing fan in my machine and now I am getting an error message when I boot saying there is no system fan detected. The reason being is because the old fan plugged directly into the mobo and the new one uses a four pin molex connector which plugs into the power supply. I think the only cure is to splice the old connector onto the new fan so I can plug it back into the mobo but the problem is the old fan uses three wires(white, black, and red) and the new fan has only black(-) and red(+). What is the white wire for? Can I just use black and red and omit the white? Or is there some other way to hide or block the error message? By the way, the fans ARE working.

I attempted a System Restore for 2 days back and received the message: SR did not complete successfully. Your computer's files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during SR. You might want to try SR again and choose a different restore point."

Which I attempted two times and got the same message. Could someone please offer some suggestions? Thanks.

A:System Restore error message

Try the System Restore in Safe Mode.

The downside to this, if it works, is that no new checkpoint is created -- so if you wanted to undo it you would have to return to something other than the current date.

If it fails in Safe Mode -- you are probably out of luck as far as getting to work for existing restore points.

The fix is usually to turn it off, purging the entire cache, then turn it back on again.

At that time it should create a new restore point -- or you can create one manually and test it.

I engaged the Microsoft chat service to fix system restore. I can't create a restore point. I tried sfc; chkdsk with /f; Microsoft virus scan; group policy; and a lot other solutions. Microsoft said they would fix the problem for $99.00. I think the error message pertains to a Visual Studio or VB application. My C# and C++ are kind of rusty, but if thats what it takes, so be it. Can anyone make sense of the error message? The only alternative is to pay the $99.00.

A:System Restore Error Message.

Hi dittybop

From what I can see, you're trying to use System Restore Manager v2.0 to do a "System Restore". This isn't the built-in feature of Windows. Did you try using the built-in feature of Windows instead and see if it works? The issue right now is the program that you're using to create the Restore Point, not the System Restore service itself.

I run WinXP . am getting the ffollowing error message
"Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."
Any idea what this means and what I do now?

As the subject reads I'm getting the error message after restarting in which reads:
windows cannot find c:\program files (x) user extensions\cinet.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly. and then try again.

I'm currently starting the requested scan and will post the data results when available.
Thank you for your attention.

A:Error Message--System Recovery for HP

Hi,

The info at the HP support area for your a510n Pavilion computer

pertaining to computers that came with Windows XP installed:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...c=us&dlc=en&product=405460&rule=20711&lang=en

<There are several things that could be a problem when you try a System Recovery-

**Read down through all that- if you cannot get the Recovery to start either from within XP itself, or when you start up using the F10 key and tapping it repeatedly...then, do you have the set of Recovery disks? They may have come with the computer, but more than likely, you were supposed to make yourself a set using the Recovery CD or DVD Creator utility that *may* have come also with the computer....this is not true in some models, but there is one more thing if you don't have the Recovery CDs>

**Follow what it says to do at that page to see if you can still get a set shipped to you- they are not expensive at all, around $23 for the last one I had to order....hope this helps!

Hi! I've been getting the following message periodically - "C:Windows\System32\Autoexec.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS & Microsoft Windows applications."

It didn't seem to be affecting anything until I tried to open a CD-ROM this morning, and got this message. I can't open the CD or its files. How do I fix this?

In the last couple of weeksI have been getting the following message:
"Please wait while checking system configuration" - in a pale blue box at startup. It sits on the top of all programs and will not turn off, even after a couple of hours, The rest of the operations work ok.

I have read an old thread on this in the forum, but it was never answered to my satisfaction, so I am asking again.

I have looked at the task manager - nothing runing
startup - no unusual programs
msconfig - startup - nothing unusual
device manager - no problem
Microsoft knowledge base - no help

It goes away if I reboot, but comes back the next day.
Any help appreciated, thanks

Have you looked for a patch for the program? Sometimes also Windows will have an update that will fix compatibility problems with certain software, but I think a patch for the program would be more likely. You may end up having to change some settings somewhere, but I don't know what that would be. Also make sure that your graphics/physics card has the latest stable drivers, as a last resort (I say last resort because sometimes earlier versions of a driver can work better with some programs than newer ones).

"Not enough storage is available to process this command."

This error message has recently started to appear after logging out of one desktop and trying to log onto another (It's a family computer with a desktop for each of the 4 of us.)

What happens next is really bizarre. When you try to log on to a desktop, the enter a password box appears. We have not set any passwords.

I suspect a virus is at work, but my up-to-date BitDefender Total Security 10.0 finds nothing.

A:Nt Authority \system Error Message

You probably have a virus, maybe Blaster.

First, you need to stop the shutdowns. When you see the notice, abort the shutdown. Go to Start > Run, and type:
shutdown -a
Click OK.

Then, go to Control Panel, Services and double-click the Remote Procedure Call. Click the Recovery tab and change each of the Failure boxes to "Restart the Service".

Follow the directions here to remove the worm:

http://www.helpdesk.gwu.edu/helpdesk/whatsnew/sum03/blaster.worm.081203.html

Update your anti-virus and do a complete scan.

A:system halted error message

There are no "security" issues evident in the Scanlog.

In Win9x I've seen this "type" of error associated with web cam or usb related installations.

Did you install anything new recently? How long has it been happening?
Looking at your startups, I'd be suspicious of the scanner.

Probably useless, but interesting:

Sounds like you may have spyware.

Try running a good antispyware program.

Run an online scan here

Every time I have tried to use system restore since downloading Service Pack 2 I get an error message that the system restore was incomplete and cannot be done because "no changes have been made to my computer." Anybody know what is going on and how I can get system restore working again?

A:System restore error message

one option is uninstalling sp2, but I hear that may cause even more problems regarding your exact current situation......
or
system restore troubleshooting
Open a command prompt window. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD.
2. Press ENTER, and then type Net Start at the command prompt to make sure that the System Restore service is up and is running.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm

also this;
Start the System Restore tool at a command prompt
1. Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in Safe Mode with a command prompt.
2. Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.
3. Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state.

After cleaning up the Balster Worm virus, I still get a virus warning pointinf at System Volume Information (se attached screen dump). The folder is protected. Any ideas?

A:System Volume error message

Er, no reply, so I thought I'd add some extra detail. AVG says it detects this residual effect of the Blaster virus, but cannot "heal" it. In terms of the System Volume Information folder, any ideas on how to access and delete files in that folder? There used to be old DOS tools that would enable you to do this kind of thing.

On boot up, I get the following error msg-

Warning! Insert key pressed or Clock GEN. Watch dog reset.
Please enter them in setup, and save the settings before exit!

Pressing F1 makes it go away, and system runs as normal.
What does this mean, and how do I fix it(step by step).

Also, sites have appeared in my history in IE, I have not vewied these sights, and nobody else could have used the comp. As I have just got wireless broadband, could I have been "hacked", somebody else using my internet signal?? Could this history have come from other sites that i looked at, like a bahind the scenes type link or something?

I use Norton Antivirus, up to date.

These 2 problems started happening at the same time...

Thanks,
Billyt

This is the first time my computer is having this problem. It randomly shuts down every 20-30 minutes or so. A screen comes on with a big "X" in a red circle that states "Please save your work as windows needs to shutdown. Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated unexpectedly."

It then says the shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM.

This is really annoying & frustrating as I'm constantly booted off my computer. It only gives you exactly 1:00 minute to save your work.

Can anyone tell how to fix this? I tried running a virus scan but it takes too long and it won't finish because my pc reboots before the scan is done.

Does this sound like an infection or could it be something else?

Thanks in advance for any advice or solutions.

A:System shutdown error message

What kind of anti virus software are you running? Norton, McAfee, AVG? Its possible this is a software and not a hardware problem.

When I start XP and try to boot into regular mode I receive an quot Operating System not found quot message after the black red quot COMPAQ quot screen and when I try to boot into Safe Mode it just restarts without that System Operating error message message Here's what preceded this I downloaded a program called ivx which I downloaded to watch mov files on Windows Media Player Not long after installing it Comodo popped up with the regular Internet Explorer quot Allow-Deny quot message it usually does when something wants to access the internet and Operating System error message it was in relation to vix It had the Operating System error message x in the message it usually has when it's suspicious of a program's intention Sorry I forget exactly what the message was I clicked Deny and afterward couldn't connect to the internet with IE I clicked Allow when it popped up again shortly after and was able to access it just fine A while afterward I saw an icon of an exclamation point in a yellow triangle in the Taskbar which I couldn't right or left click I was about to shut down some programs to reboot and then the computer froze I turned it off manually and when I turned it back on I got the message mentioned in the first paragraph I'm not sure if vix had anything to do with it but I figured it was important to mention anyway since it was preceding this problem

3vix might have had a cause in this but if your computer says No Operating System found then you will have to re-install your operating system. Find your Recovery CD and re-install Windows

Hi I was wondering if anyone could assist me in figuring out a problem with a computer running Windows The OS hangs once per day There is no error message it just hangs after about mins from starting the computer and only once per day after per day, error hangs message once no System I reboot the system no longer hangs It also seems like it's a problem with windows explorer because sometimes the task bar becomes unresponsive and I'm unable to use CTRL ALT DEL to bring up the task manager but I can still switch to open application windows for a minute or two and they work normally until the system hangs completely I've looked at everything that I could think of and searched online for help Win is updated I've checked any weird applications or processes running I've checked the task scheduler to see if anything strange was set to run on boot up once per day I downloaded every troubleshooter I could find on the Win site no problems were detected I used disk clean up I checked for any security problems The only thing I didn't try System hangs once per day, no error message was to restore the installation because the computer had an OEM installation of Win Vista which I later upgraded to Win so I only have the Win update DVD and I'm not sure that'll work or if I have to create some installation discs somewhere The curious thing is that I checked for recently updated software and basically uninstalled everything that I had updated the last few months Java plugin Microsoft NET and Flash This seemed to fix the problem and I had no need for any of those so all good But two weeks later the problem returned So I have no idea Maybe I have some weird trojan on the computer and the person exploiting it went on vacation for two weeks in August Can you help or give me any pointers Please let me know if you need me to post any information Thank you very much

A:System hangs once per day, no error message

Have you tried booting to Safe Mode and wait 15 minutes?

You could also try a Clean Boot: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Safe Mode runs with minimum requirements, drivers etc.
Clean Boot assumes Windows itself isn't the problem and runs without 3rd party stuff.

You could also try Process Explorer from Sysinternals(Microsoft). It'll list all running processes and has an option to check each file on VirusTotal, a multi-engine scanner with 50+ AV's. If you launch it as Administrator it will check all processes incl. those running as system and with high integrity. If the VirusTotal column shows for example 0/55 it means no AV detected anything out of 55 different AV's. If any process shows something else than 0 you can click on it to view the report on VirusTotal. See the report to find out if perhaps it's a false positive or a malware. Process Explorer

Hey all.

My mom's computer runs Win98SE. Recently her wallpaper disappeared (replaced by Window's generic default background) and now whenever the computer boots up she gets this message:

"Error loading C:\windows\bxxs5.dll

This system cannot find the file specified."

If she clicks OK nothing else happens. The message does not repeat itself and she still has internet access. I assumed this could have been triggered by an adware/virus problem of some sort. Unfortunately, the diagnostic software I've tried to load onto her computer (Malwarebytes, AVG) doesn't work on Windows 98. (My own computer recently crashed so I'm unable to download anything else that might help her.)

Advice?

radio downloader program

Access was denied when attempting to copy the Radio downloader template database.
Check that you have read access to 'C:\Program files (x86)\Radio Downloader\store.db' and write access to 'C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\www.nerdoftheherd.com\Radio Downloader\spec-store.db'.

Does this kind of error look familiar? I've tried uninstalling and reversing the restore with no luck.

thx, dd8

Solved. with Revo uninstaller
