LAN based proxy cache server software

Q: LAN based proxy cache server software

Hello, just want to find where are the best proxy cache servers out there. If there are some free one let me know.

Relevancy 100%
Preferred Solution: LAN based proxy cache server software

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You don't need to do this - should not do this (against the rules). If you are unsure of where to ask your question, the moderators will help you out ... just post once - if it is in the wrong forum, they will move it for you and let you know.

Having said that ... again Welcome to TSG! - have fun in here and visit often ... there are hundreds of friendly folks in here to assist.

Now for the chuckle - I personally, do not know the answer to your problem.
Have you contacted your ISP and requested an explanation and work-around? (you pay them for service, ask them to provide some of the the 'customer' kind).
Stay tuned for another, more knowledgeable, TSG member to jump in!

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.
To download Network Monitor, please refer to the link below:

Can anyone recommend a server. We are looking at setting up a dictation system. Three dictation stations all writing to the server. The files would all be word or word perfect and this is all it would be used for. The only thing it would really need is redundancy for security reasons. A raid system and some sort of way to back it up.

I have a HP DL380 G4 Server that is running Virtual Server 2005.

I want to test an application on a virtual guest that uses a parralel port
dongle for software security.

The DL380 server does not have a parrallel port so I purchased a PCI based
IO card and installed it in the server. The PCO slots on the server are PCI-X.

The server is running Windows 2003 server and detected the device and I was
able to install the drivers from the cd-rom that came with the card.

Device manager on the host servers show that there is an LPT port.

However, when I go into the Virtual Server administrator and try to map that
LPT1 port to a virtual guest the port dow not appear and thus cannot be
selected.

Is anyone able to confirm that what I am doing is possible? Does virtual
server only recognize 'real' LPT ports? Any other suggestions?

Cheers

I've been looking for a fast web based file server that can be hosted locally forever I'm using owncloud currently which all the features are awesome and the speed is okay but no where as fast as torrents uTP protocol. Can any recommend one that will actually transfer at my 100Mb up speed if the clients down speed can support it? Something that use udt ,fdt or anything other than tcp.

Here's what I did the other day testing with owncloud file transfer to a friend I hit a whole 16Mb speed transferring a file with that application. I then created a private torrent and gave that to him and it transferred at a speed around 50Mb which is decent considering he's not on fiber. And there's a huge difference in speed between the two applications so I am after something that can give me the transfer speed of uTP.

A:Fast web based file server

One thing you may want to consider before attempting to set up a local server. Read the fine print of your TOS from your ISP. Make sure that you are not subject to penalties for operating a server on your level of service. You could be in for a rude awakening otherwise.

I have a server at home. Up until last week the only way for me to gain access to it from outside the network was through a VPN connection. I decided to setup seafile on it so I can get us off dropbox. Seafile works great but I am cautious about who I share links to files with. Its behind a router based firewall, windows firewall is enabled on it as well and only the necessary ports are open. I have done some light reading into setting up SSL but have not actually done it yet. I was thinking of setting up a dedicated machine with PFsense, but that may be overkill and added complexity.

It's running Windows 8.1 right now, but I can change that if necessary.

What can I do to make sure nothing heinous happens?

A:How do I best secure my home based server?

The only thing you really can do is to make sure everything is patched and up to date, as many exploits come through outdated software and machines get hijacked from the most unlikely places. Firewall rules, good account names and passwords, etc. I have started to go to mildly complex user names to maybe give a small extra layer of security... instead of "admin" I would use "iroc409-Admin" or something similar. It probably doesn't help, but it might. Social engineering is a major way into a network as well, so be mindful of that.

A:hardening database server based on windows 7

Make sure all admin passwords to the database are complex and long.

A lot of the burden for security rests with those applications that access the database. If the applications are buggy, then you won't have a secure database.

Hi guys a little background before I ask my question As you might be aware I m an editor here at Techspot that means I Preferably free; e-mail web-based server? receive allot of mail both legitimate and spam Using an e-mail-filtering program like Cloudmark SpamNET did make life allot easier Preferably free; web-based e-mail server? for me With one apparent drawback being that when I download mails from my Techspot account those mails are deleted from the server Since I m quite often on the move Preferably free; web-based e-mail server? and need access to my e-mails wherever I happen to Preferably free; web-based e-mail server? currently be this proved to be quite a hassle since I became locked to my home PC So therefore I setup my web based Yahoo account to also retrieve mail from the Techspot account and that works really good now I have the freedom I want but with the drawback that was fixed with my other solution of using SpamNET Catch anyone If I don t check my Yahoo account every day those free mb of storage will soon have been filled up by both legitimate mail and spam Not to mention how much worse this has become with the recent Sobig F virus where every mail is kb in size Thus now I have the mobility but no spam filtering so I also have to read about how to best please my partner which someone else than me seems to think they know better while looking for the legitimate mail What I had in mind was to set up my own SMTP server which I will have control of now the only question is what sort of software I should use I e do you know of have you tried a good preferably free web based e-mail server Absolutely best would be if the company making it had servers that worked under Windows Linux and perhaps even Netware free or not nbsp

A:Preferably free; web-based e-mail server?

i would HIGHLY suggest using a linux server for this need. While offering the SMTP service you need, you will have a higher secruity and a better feeling about it not being down more than its up if you were to run windows.

Running linux server also provides you with protection(better than windows offers) from hackers, and most virus's that were made on Win32 OS's. So you wouldnt have to worry about your linux box being virused to all heck.

And, linux is FREE, and open source.

You also have the option of leaving messages on the SERVER itself and not actually downloading them.

As far as spam mail goes..there are some good ones and some bad ones.

Postini is what my local ISP uses, i have done NO research on this and quite frankly not even sure if its linux/unix compatable.

you can probably do a search on sourceforge.net or tucows com for a nice spam filtering system.

Hope this helps you ease some of whats on your mind.

The problem i have is that I need a 12 month calander that highlights and tells me when a contract is up for a renewal. For example if a customer's contract expires in May, I want it to advise me of this and possibly even highlight it on screen. As well as providing me with a hardcopy

I have attempted to do this using excel with the job names down one side and the months from jantodec along top, but i cant seem to get it to filter the relevant info.Within the cells i've been typing the word "renew" where a renewal is due.

is there any easier, software i can use that will allow this? i have thought about doing it in outlook and using the diary/appointment manager but i dont think u can print off the events or the entire run from jan to december.

Any advise appreciated.thanks so much.

to my knowledge, "classic" calendar apps deal with tasks, appointments, aniveraries, and meetings, so you could mimic this creating a task as long as the contract goes and an additional appointment/meeting/aniversary for the end date to trigger the reminder event (sound, mail, message).
You may also check out a typical project management application, and add the contracts as project (milestones) or similar. They usually have a calender-like view which you can print, but I don't know if there is something like a reminder.
Maybe you can play with a tyical calendar app, such as Sunbird (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/) to find out if this type of app actually works. Or give Outlook a try if you have it already installed.
Maybe you can create a little sketch (handdraw/scan, illustration), safe this image, and provide some URL to view it so we can see what you're after?

Have fun,
CirTap

Hi all I m new to this forum and made this account just to ask site Pop-up on Ads software's web-based a particular one question Please enlighten me that what could be the reason if a particular website is showing you pop-up ads I ll add some detail here Actually we at our office are using a web-based software Since some days it has started showing ads during working These ads appear on screen Pop-up Ads on a particular web-based software's site all of a sudden while Pop-up Ads on a particular web-based software's site working on some form or report and then we Pop-up Ads on a particular web-based software's site have to click BACK button to return to the page we were working on There is no specific pattern of time and these ads appear with varied time-space I asked the software providers that please assist regarding the cause and solution of this problem but they said that the site is working fine on their end over there and that I should contact my IT Department and have them take a look at my pc as it looks like that I have malware on my computer I told them that I m pretty sure that this problem has nothing to do with my computer because of the following reasons These ads appear only on that particular software s website and none of the other website is showing these pop-up ads while browsing These ads appear on that software s website while working on all the computers from all the login ids They replied that We have done some further testing and are still not seeing the images on your site There are three probable causes for this behavior The first possibility is malware you have mentioned that this does not seem likely the second is that it is being injected via a browser extension The third is that it could be coming from your Internet Service Provider I ve updated version of Avira with Avira Browser Safety and Avira SafeSearch Extensions enabled Can any of you please tell me that what could be the cause of problem I m facing and what would be the solution Thanks in advance Kiran nbsp

A:Pop-up Ads on a particular web-based software's site

A couple of questions to point you in the right direction
1. Does this only happen to your computer or are other computers in the office affected as well?
2. What web based software is it?

Bear in mind this
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING CORPORATE/COMPANY OWNED COMPUTERS

Please do not request assistance for corporate/company owned computers. Many changes/deletions are made during the clean up process, some of which may involve uninstalling programs, deleting folders/files, changing settings and/or removing policies etc. As we have no way of knowing for sure if these are actually needed for company operations, malware issues in these cases should be handled by your own IT Departments in order to avoid any undesirable results.

I recently evaluated HelpDeskIQ by Remedy and need some suggestions on other help desk products.

My company maintains several websites and needs a web-based help desk solution that can allow us to add a custom field based on the product the customer is using and the project code, which we have in our database.

I'm looking for something easy to use, but ideally it should be something that will allow me to add a custom field to the help desk solution's database, and not just add another label on a form (like HelpDeskIQ does).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
P

Hi,

I would just like to know whether anyone uses more than one software based firewall?

The reason I am asking this is because I have WinXP with SP2, ZoneAlarm Firewall, NAV and all other patches available, but i still get the occasional lsass.exe 60 second shutdown error message. I've scanned many times with instructions from people on this forum, but I've never managed to find a virus.

Could there be something wrong with ZoneAlarm? Should I use install another firewall to make it double secure?

Thanks for your help.

Hello All
I have been looking at this program called "SuperCache" that is suppose to break the disk I/O bottleneck by using the computer's RAM to hold or contain the most frequently used disk data. Could someone advise me if this type of app. would help improve the performance of my computer. And if its worth trying.

Thanks

A:Super Cache Software Question

Never heard of it.

My guess is that you will get responses using terms such as "snake oil" and "worthless". That seems to be what happens for most programs that contend that they will improve on Windows 7 RAM management.

I am currently studying in Germany and am living in student housing. You have normal internet connectivity unless you use download over 10 GB of stuff, they then shut off your internet. You can still use the internet using a proxy server provided here but I still cannot connect to Skype or anything else besides Firefox. Is there anything I can do? If it helps I have an early 2008 MacBook.
Thanks!

A:proxy server

In most cases you can configure your applications to use the proxy as well. You will have to find out what the Proxy IP address and Port is to input to the settings. Example: IP->192.168.1.1:3128<-Port You may have to ask your Technical Support people for that information.

For Skype:

SKYPE-->Tools-->Options--.Connections-->Automatic Proxy Detection-->(change)-->Save

I hope this helps.

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me please?

I'm using a high speed cable modem and Internet Explorer under XP. About a year ago, I learned how to use a Proxy Server. I just upgraded my cable to "high speed" and want to use a proxy server for increased privacy and security.

Using Internet Explorer, I went to the Tools Menu, Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings. Then checked the Proxy Server box and entered a proxy adress of: http://proxy and port of 8080.

Should I check the Bypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses box? Does that make any difference?

Can anyone please advise me what is likely going wrong? When I try to connect, I get one of those: "Cannot find server or DNS address" errors. I'd like to use a proxy server. What am I doing wrong?

A couple months ago I was helped on this forum for a really slow computer. One issue I had at that time was a proxy server kept coming up when I opened my internet explorer. Here's the link to my last issue
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1126271-time-upgrade.html

Yesterday I installed a new Brother printer on my computer and the proxy server started again.

I went back to my last post and saw that Roguekiller was used first to address this issue. I downloaded it and tried to run it three times and when I do a blue screen comes up and shuts my computer down. I don't want to keep trying that and am not sure how to proceed to eliminate the proxy server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The proxy is being set and enables by a program called e-Rewards Notify that you had installed at the time and I assume you still have it or it came in again with the latest download. I understand it's some sort of notification software for surveys/opinions. If you didn't install it intentionally then uninstall it and the proxy issue should be sorted.

Much as I can live without Incredimail and it's alleged Spyware it's bloated E Mails and it's inefficiencies even after the company has been repeatedly informed that they are lacking in the most basic of Message Rules my wife and kids love it In case you don't know the Message Rules do not allow you to check if the E Mail is addressed to you and if it is not then to leave it on the server so I constantly get E Mails forwarded to Outlook Express from my kids that are for me but they 'accidentally' downloaded quot a few days ago quot yeah and proxy I I think !!! server a need the rest Oh I should point out that this happens when I think I need a proxy server !!! you have multiple E Mail addresses under a single useried i e MrX ouraddress com MrY ouraddress com amp MrZ ouraddress com Incredimail cannot differentiate between these and will download them all if somebody presses the Send amp Receive button An obvious and presumably easy upgrade of their Message Rules would be the most obvious and easiest way around this I've asked them numerous times but they certainly haven't taken my advice on board as there has been a recent new release with no changes to Message Rules So eventually to my workaround does anybody know of any decent cheap free software that will sit between my PC and the E Mail programs and perform a similar service to Outlook Express's rules I have found a few programs that perport to act as servers but they are very complicated to set up amp I'm still not sure that they'll do what I want they'll certainly do a hell of a lot more than I want that's for sure Basically I suppose I am looking for a piece of Software that will when the Incredimail Send amp Receive button is pressed will filter what is on the server Any help greatly appreciated

A:I think I need a proxy server !!!

Read this post I stumbled across on IncrediMail, I think you should consider a less invasive email service! If this doesn't give you pause for thought, you need to read it again.:no:

6) IncrediMail Problems (Part One)

Hi Fred, I'm a network administrator for a large Reservation in Minnesota. One of my users asked me if it would be all right to install a new E-mail client package called Incredimail, I checked out the http://www.incredimail.com website and noticed stellar recommendations from Cnet, ZDnet, and Tucows so I downloaded the demo to check it out. What I found in the user agreement for the software was pretty unbelievable, obviously the people who recommended this software didn't read it. The agreement itself is extremely long... but the attached excerpt from the agreement almost knocked me out of my chair:

"10. UNSOLICITED MATERIALS
Any confidential, secret or proprietary information or other material submitted or sent to IncrediMail, including without limitation via any Message sent by You through the Service, Site, or IncrediMail's physical mail and e-mail addresses, or in any other way, will be deemed to be not confidential or secret. By submitting or sending information or other material to IncrediMail or by posting information on any portion of the Service you (a) Warrant that you have all rights of any kind to the material and that to the best of your knowledge no other party has any rights to the material; and (b) Grant IncrediMail an unrestricted, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, display, perform, modify, transmit and distribute the material, and you further agree that IncrediMail is free to use any ideas, know-how, concepts or techniques you send us or post on the Service for any purpose, without any compensation to you or any other person."

I'm not a reactionary person by nature but the implication of that paragraph for the average user is staggering. I always tell my users to read every agreement carefully but of course many don't, this agreement is especially long and loaded with legalspeak to further guarantee that the average person won't read it all. People are ultimately responsible for their own actions but I believe that this particular company goes way too far in misleading people about their ultimate goal and someone needs to shine a light on them and make people aware of what's really going on, at least then they can make an informed choice about using the service. I'm a subscriber to several technical newsletters and I'm writing to all of them. Thank you for your time, love your newsletter. --- Ed McPhail

Some of that language is similar to that used by other mail services and ISPs to get around copyright issues that can innocently arise when proprietary information is sent through a third party--- for example, it's not uncommon for an ISP to want to ensure they're not violating a copyright if they merely store a copy of your mail on their servers while it's being processed.

But I can't think of any innocent reason for the phrasing that states "... IncrediMail is free to use any ideas, know-how, concepts or techniques you... post on the Service for any purpose, without any compensation to you or any other person." Maybe there is a perfectly inoffensive reason for including that, but it eludes me.

I'm seeking information on how to go about setting up a proxy server. Currently we deny internet access by machine. That works well if the employee at the machine has no legit reason to be on the internet but it doesn't help with employees that do need the internet just not all of it. Basically i'm interested in setting up something that can block by website. The router has this feature but only for four sites (really cheap router for now). Thanks for your assistance.

A:How to set up a proxy server

You simply install some proxy software on a machine and set up a firewall rule on the router that allows traffic only from the proxy machine. Configure all the clients to use the proxy.

Unless you have a fast connection and lots of clients, any old crap PC should be able to do the job.

Squid+Linux would be the most popular and logical choice, but there are other operating system and proxy suites that work just as well.

I'm looking for an application on Windows (preferred, or Linux if necessary) that would allow me to proxy a URL through it. HTTPS/SSL is a must.

For instance, if I'm not home, I'd like to have something running where I can run loop a URL link through my home cable securely and have it use that firewall. I would of course have to present it as a public facing application from my home firewall, hence the reason I want it secure and password protected.

So instead of it showing my current circuit's IP address of wherever I am, it would show me from home. I could always VPN into home, but was looking for something more interactive I could do from anywhere and from any PC.

We have recently updated our environment to IE The machines in question use a point of sale application that loads immediately after reboot every night so it server Proxy does not load explorer At this point IE works fine and Proxy server loads the allowed web sites and the proxy server is there in IE under LAN connections When the application is terminated and explorer executed it applies its personalized settings for web platform customization And the proxy server is missing from IE LAN connections you can add it manually and it works fine afterwards But not an ideal solution in a big environment like ours The proxy server is still in the registry but not applied to IE settingsAll these machines are in a workgroup and not part of a domain not an option I removed the active set up component for the web platform customization made no differenceRe ran the reg edit file with the proxy server no joy Does anyone have any ideas on what causes this issue There have been updates in relation to the IE update And is there a way to force IE to look at the registry for its proxy server Or even better stop what is causing the removal of the proxy server from IE in the first place

Hey there,

I am using Windowns XP, and I have discovered I have a proxy server, and I don't ever recall asking to have a proxy server, I have a single computer at home, no network. So the proxy server must be web-based, I sort of know what it is. But it's been interfering with trying to set up Mozilla (which I've given up on). I'd like to know how I disconnect the proxy server, or where the controls are.

A:Proxy server

open a browser, click on "tools/internet options" then the connections tab . look for "lan setting" near the bottom, and un-check the box that says "use a proxie server". that should do it for you. Leave the box checked ( or make sure it's checked) to "automatically detect settings"

I hope this will help you. Please let us know

Hi guys we always had a satellite connection and a static ip address We were also running a winroute firewall on a seperate xp system and mail and everything was working great then we got a dsl connection and everything was setup and worked great barring the winroute firewall mail could be sent but not received i was told that this was due to the fact that the dsl modem was proxy in? a does where fit server now doing nat and authentication for the dsl connection and winroute didnt know how where does a proxy server fit in? to deal with this So i disabled the winroute firewall and plugged in a sonic wall tz firewall and configured it everything is working fine I want to setup the winroute firewall as a proxy server as i like the reporting functionality it has regarding site visits data usage etc my question is Does the winroute box connect straight into the switch like a normal client or does a cable go from the sonic wall to ext interface of the winroute box and then another cable from int interface to the lan switch cause its just a proxy that you configure the browser to look for does it matter where its actually sitting on the network its hard to find information on things like this where is a good place to find info on setting up custom solutions like this any info appreciated nbsp

I somehow picked up a Proxy Server 127.0.0.1.50573 .

Even though Hitman Pro, Super Antispyware, and Malwarebytes help it is only temporary as it comes back.

What exactly is it and how do I get rid of it.

It just popped onto the computer seemingly out of nowhere.

Computer is HP Pavillion and Windows 8.1.

Thank you very much.

If anyone knows any USA anonymous proxy servers that work please help me out. If proxy servers are against the rules then just ignore me or delete this please.

If i put this is the wrong forum (which i probably did) move it or delete it or tell me where to put it. I just thought seeming im using a Firefox plug in to use proxies it might as well be this one.

I need help with proxy server settings, I can get on the internet with firefox and I can download with my bittorrent downloader, but IE and Chrome both tell me they can't connect to proxy server, I wouldn't mind this so much but firefox eats up so much memory that it seriously bogs down my admittedly already very slow old computer. Firefox frequently show a usage of 150,000 to 250,000 and has been as high as 400,000k on my task manager,  I don't remember ever seeing IE or Chrome using that much menory,
I tried going to internet options / connections /Lan settings and unchecking the box for 'use a proxy server' I also downloaded Minitoolbox and ran it to reset IE proxy settings, I still can't get on with IE or Chrome.   Does anybody have any other suggestions how I can fix this issue?

netsh winsock reset

After it states it was successful, then Restart the

I am trying to browse the internet with my computer but it's saying I need a proxy server. It's done this before but it let me choose a default proxy server, but now there is no default to choose from. I have no idea why it did this, it just happened randomly. My computer is a custom built computer, I'm not sure of the specs on it but it's about 4 years old and I am currently using Mozilla Firefox for the browser. I am so frustrated with it right now, any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

Do you have Firefox with "TorButton" installed ? If so, the proxy server refusing connections message happens when Vidalia isn't running. If you aren't trying to browse anonymously, click off the TorButton in the lower right hand corner of the browser window.

Try another browser. Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

A:proxy server?

You are saying that some internet connectivity is present but not a few sites?
Do you have 1 antivirus program and at least two good, recommended anti-spyware programs that you run regularly?
Might want to start with basic security measures and possibly get some help in that arena,

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

Sometimes system restore will correct the problem, but without measures it is almost sure to return.

How to configure MS Proxy server to not allow every netwok user to access the internet.

A:NT4 proxy server

You can create a group called "Internet users" or something like that in User Manager for Domains. Add the users you want to allow to have internet access.
On your proxy server, in Internet Service Manager, click on the Winsock Proxy, go to the Permissions tab. In the Enable access control list, you need to add the internet group that you have created and remove any other people.
Any person who is trying that access the internet will have a box pop up asking for a password but it won't allow them in.

Have a look in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, it may also be able to help you.

I am at a boarding school, and they have almost everything blocked except for MSN hah, and a kid there had set up a proxy at his house, and connects to the unblocked internet from there. he didn't tell me much of how to do it, but only that it can be very dangerous. How do you do this thing??? Thank you very much in advance!!!

That's your problem. Unless you have a public hotspot near you the wifi signal would be from someone's private router. They are well within their rights to put a proxy server on it to restrict access.

I want the "use a proxy server for your lan" unticked. I will untick it and then I am able to connect to the internet. My problem is something keeps ticking this checkbox and I can't determine what. It generally always happens at re-boot but will also happen just by refreshing or going to a different page. Not consistent but happens constantly and is about to drive me nuts.

Any solution/suggestion would be most appreciated.

if properly configured by the ISP, a proxy server can speed things up by not having to reload web pages, images etc for frequently accessed sites

here's some google links for netzero's proxy use:
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=netzero+proxy+server&meta=
the first 2 from netzero's help area

if downloading a program, it may want to bypass the proxy server so you get the latest version instead of a cached version

Hello.
I am a newbie. My question is about the proxy server.
1- When you use a proxy to the browser. Do that change the router settings. Or is the only browser.
2- Do use a proxy change IP
3- Do that change the internal IP FOR computer or only change IP that can obtain from a software that detect IP for pc

A:proxy server

Hi, zf490. I'll do my best to answer your questions, but you can read this for all the boring details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server1. I'm fairly certain you can only have proxy options for a browser, not a router...but I haven't looked at my router's settings in a while, and I don't have access to it right now, so I'm not sure on this one.2. Yes, using a proxy changes your IP address.3. I understand the question, but I'm not positive of the answer, as I do not have experience with proxies.Basically, the premise of a proxy is this: you want to change your IP address for some reason (usually due to restrictions of your country of residence). Using a proxy reroutes your connection to all websites through the proxy server you chose to use. This makes your IP address appear to come from the location of the proxy server instead of your actual location. Think about it like tracing a phone call. If you put up some sort of filter/firewall, you can give the call tracer a false location (I assume this is possible, I don't really know...it just seemed like a good analogy).A good example is this: I wanted to watch a certain video, but the website would not allow me to because I don't live in Canada (wasn't my location). If I had used a proxy that routed through Canada, I would have been able to watch the video. But I didn't care enough to go to that trouble. If you want to experiment with proxies, I have no recommendations, as I have never used one myself. Just be careful if you have to install software, sign up on websites, etc...You can use http://www.ipchicken.com/ to see how your IP address changes when you start messing with stuff.I hope that answered your questions.

Recently Windows updated both my partner's and my laptop with 23 updates for Vista. Ever since those updates over the weekend my partner keeps on getting a proxy server window appear on his desktop asking for a password.

We have Virgin wireless broadband and changed over from 3 Broadband. I told my partner to uninstall 3 Broadband, which he has done but it still comes up with this window. We have gone into all the Internet connection windows and unticked any option for a proxy server and it still comes.

Is there anything we can do that we haven't tried yet?

A:Proxy server

Ok, this question is quite old, so I'm going to take a stab at it!

I'm assuming that since you have Virgin wireless and going from 3 broadband that you are in the UK. I have zero experience with anything in the UK as b/c I'm in the US. Nevertheless, I'm going to try and assist you the best I can.

I'd say uninstall all Virgin wireless & 3 Broadband software that is on the computer. IF the virgin wireless connection is a regular wireless router in your home, then just simply connect to the wifi network is shows when you use the built in wifi software for windows, enter the wireless password & you should be good to go. IF the virgin wireless connection is a USB adapter, then reinstall the software accordingly, run the program and it should connect. As for this proxy window popping up, I'm really not sure why it's doing that, is it a windows proxy window or a window from the virgin wireless software?! either way, take a screenshot & post back.

Also post back specs on the system in question, info on the type of wireless connection you have from virgin wireless (USB, PCMCIA, wifi hotspot device, etc.).

Hope this helps, take care!

I don't know what happened but today when I tried to enter IE I received this message:

The proxy server isn't responding

Check your proxy settings. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections. If you are on a LAN, click "LAN settings".Make sure your firewall settings aren't blocking your web access.Ask your system administrator for help.

If I go to LAN and remove the block with a check beside the proxy sever IE starts, however, if I log off and try to reenter the proxy server box has a check mark.
How can I fix this

If you do not use a proxy server it should not be checked so you may have just fixed your own problem. How did it get checked? Who knows? For comparison, I do not require a proxy:

I am attempting to setup a Windows 2k3 Server with ISA Services for web content filteration.

However, this is the first time working with anything dealing with proxy services. I think I am a little confused on the concept of a "proxy" service. I know its main goal is to block protocol content...mainly for web dealings and whatnot. However, Where is the proxy server supposed to sit on the network?

We only want to use this proxy server for 1 PC. The pc has 2 nic cards, but I do not know whether or not this PC has to be synched up with ADS, plugged into a switch in the network, and also plugged into our firewall?!??!

If anyone could give me some information or link me to some, I would appreciate it.

I have a very weird question that has been asked yesterday by one of my clients; that she needs a comic based software. A software which able for the user to create multiple block of comics, and which integrated with those smily faces or the shape of a human based face.

The user has determine that she needs some sort of column where it's able for him or her to create her own story by add-ons and text editors. And it has to be in windows based. Can anyone kindly share the software names wit me? Or do you guys have any personal expirement on it that would like to share? So please kindly post it up...thanks

So I am doing side tech work on the side with my friends and we though it'd be a good idea to get some web based Helpdesk type software to track out work load, customers, etc.

Thigs we are looking for:
Free
Web based (SQL for the database)
Able to create tickets and have the ability to search for past ones
Create cusomter contacts for customer information and easy access to that data for returning customers

Thats the basics. Seems like there is alot out there, but wanted to see if anyone here might have suggestions before I get head deep into a crappy piece of software.

I am wondering what the consensus on Anti-Virus software is. I am currently using AVG free, and am wondering what new alternative I could pursue for my new, rather improved, computer.

I have used Norton, yet have noticed it has been called "bloatware" and "too big for its own good". With that, I am perplexed as to the best, free or not, program to remove viruses.

Thanks,
Merodoc

A:Best Anti-Virus Software; Fee-based

I used to use norton home, then I was able to get norton corporate free from the Army with free updates. I find norton corporate much better with no bloatware.
