How to correct a BIOS hack?

Q: How to correct a BIOS hack?

I think I have been hacked by a hacker, I've Googled these "netbios-ns, netbios -dgm" and for no appearant reason I have connection to "localhost" which should be me, right?

I also have 127.0.0.0, 224.0.0.0, 0.0.0.0. as my netmask and network destination when I type netstat -r. How can I curb and revive my internet connection rightfully to me and lose this hacker?

Preferred Solution: How to correct a BIOS hack?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:BIOS Hack?

Bump, Please.
Sorry I did not zip those files, I have winrar so I could not have done so anyway. Right after posting to this forum, "whatever" has stopped trying to load 127.0.0. I've found a system restore point, I had turned off system restore. I did a virus scan with my usb drive in and it found that combofix is the TR/Yakes.ado.11 Trojan. I don't know if that is typical. I also remembered that on the Dell driver CD I have there is one driver that is an old version of Java that spybot s&d says is a virus or trojan. I did not load that driver on this install. Help!

I bought an old laptop at a school auction. It is a Dell and has Windows XP loaded onto it. I would like to re-format and add a new copy of WinXP, but I cannot get into the BIOS. Apparently they password protected the BIOS and they have no idea what the password is. Because it is password protected, I cannot boot from the CD drive (or any other drive, except the hard drive). So, does anybody know how to get around this or how to hack the BIOS password?

Hello,

I will need to access the BIOS of my Acer Aspire One AOA150.

However, I don't actually have the BIOS password; to be fair, I don't know how to get any form of hint for it, either (the message box says 'ENTER BIOS PASSWORD [?]' so there is one, but I don't know how to activate it).

How could I hack this BIOS password, obviously not disassembling a netbook which would be difficult anyway considering it is small?

(Reason: I need to remove Xubuntu and reinstall XP with all partitions belonging to it, which I believe requires BIOS access. I already have a bootable USB with the correct drivers for Windows XP, and I know how to remove most of Xubuntu. I would keep Linux if I had the disc space, though, but unfortunately I have to give it the boot.)

A:phoenix bios password hack or bypass or software to find it HELP!!

There is probably no easy way.

The passwords on laptops are designed to not be easily bypassed or reset.

I would take it back to the place you bought it and get your money back.

Wearing some oven gloves probably wouldn't hurt either.

hi my system is an athlon(tm)xp 1500+
I decided to increase my ram from 2x 256 cards(DDR PC2700) to 1x 1gb I scanned my system to find what motherboard I was using MS-6777 (K7N2GM-L) and purchased a DDR PC3200. with the new card fitted the computer won`t start, the supplier said it would be by BIOS it would need to be updated. I went to the web page of the supplier www.msi.com and there lies the problem I`m unsure what to put in if I get it wrong goodbye computer.
I would appreciate it if anyone can give me the correct BIOS.

Hi

On my P5E MB there are two places where the Vcore voltages are displayed in the BIOS.

One is in the O/C tweaking section where you actually input the voltage during over clocking and the second is in the Power section of the BIOS but this is just a display and you cannot change anything here.

Now to my question. There are two different values displayed. Which one is the correct Core voltage, the one in the Tweak section or the one in the Power section? Right now I have 1.62150 Volts in the Tweak section but only 1.552 in the Power section. If the Power section is the true value then I have a lot more room to play.

Thanks
Robert

Latest version posted for your model is F.0F -under Windows 7 driver list. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-dv4-2100-entertainment-notebook-pc-serie... I doubt that a BIOS update would solve overheating issues. An older desktop here suffers from overheating in Windows 10 and I believe it is due to no AMD graphics driver for Win 10. The graphics card is older & no support for Win 10 from AMD. Using the basic Microsoft driver. Probably will be rolling this machine back to Windows 7.

Hi,
How to know the correct version of bios to get updated and how to do in running windows?
Will the bios update create some new menu in my bios? if not, what is the use of bios update?
Why driver update program like drivermax does not find updates for bios?
Can i add any item in Boot priority menu and make it workable thro registry tricks

A:how to know the correct version of bios for update

My rules of the thumb when it comes to bios updates (flash)

1. Always use the motherboard manual instruction to do a bios flash.

2. Only do a bios flash if the problem you are having is listed in the bios information as a repair for the problem you are having.

3. Never do a bios flash just because their is a new one. If your not having a problem leave the bios alone.

Example: Here is my bios on the system I'm typing from now.

BIOS
Brand American Megatrends Inc.
Version 0502
Date 11/16/2010

I'm not having any problems so I leave the 2010 bios alone.
If I do get a problem 99.9% of the time it's not caused by the bios version.

As far as I know you can't flash the bios from within Windows 7.
Your bios is installed on/in the motherboard not in Window 7 registry.

On some motherboards if a bios flash goes a muck your motherboard will become unusable. Possibly the motherboard manufacture will repair it.

Driver update programs like drivermax will most likely do nothing but cause problem. Install a bunch of PUP's and be very difficult to remove completely.

I've got a Gigabyte P35 DS3R with 4 gigs of Crucial Ballistix PC 8500 DDR2 1066 ram. The mobo loaded up nicely when I installed it. The ram I had at the time Crucial PC5300 DDR2 533 worked well. I've clocked to 800 and everything is running nicely, but I'm not sure why the ram shows as DDR2 800 and not 1066. Can anyone help?

A:USB Keyboard & BIOS Even With Correct Settings

That "USB keyboard support" is the setting you need to have enabled. If it is....you may try a new port. If that does not work you may try the latest bios. If you have the latest bios, you may try using the front panel USB or changing ports for the front panel and the keyboard in different combinations.

I just got a new P55 board and had the same issue but a flash cured it.

I would try a different port or mobo header if you have not done it already.

Good luck!!

The reason there are other BIOS versions offered is for newer models of that series that required different BIOS versions. What you are currently using is the latest and most current BIOS we have for your unit.

Hello all

I have a ThinkPad T61 with XP Pro. I recently put in another 2 GB stick of RAM bringing it from 3 GB to 4 GB. When I go into BIOS it reads all 4 gigs, however, when I go to Control Panel -> System it says I only have 3 GB of RAM.

What gives???

An eSATA bracket came with my GA-EP45-UD3P Gigabyte motherboard. It has a molex to SATA power, 2 eSATA ports and an eSATA to normal SATA cable so I can run internal hard drives externally. It is really nice.

My board has 2 (two) SATA controllers. The ICH10-R controls 6 ports and a Gigabyte (or JMicron chip) controller if for 2 others. I have tried this bracket connected to the Gigabyte controller in AHCI and it works fine. I also tried it in IDE mode and it works a little different. In both cases I have "safely remove hardware" option.

I have not used eSATA much until now. What is correct setting in the BIOS for eSATA? What if I only had one SATA controller like a lot of boards? What would you have the BIOS set to in that case? (IDE or AHCI)

Thanks

A:What is the correct setting in BIOS for eSATA?

I'm using sata as IDE, and having no problems - i asked seagate about enabling AHCI and there reply was it is unnecessary, as its built into the sata hard drives now, and not necessary. I also have the intel ich9 sata controller plus the j-micron, so I turn the j-micron off in the bios and use just use the intel controller.
Just added a couple of hours later:
I have one external esata hard drive -160gb seagate hard drive - forgot to mention although I implied, as such, but personally i like to see things myself before believing. Two internal a 250gb and 500gb seagate

It has an MSI KM4AM mobo

A:Conputer won't boot from CD...the BIOS order is correct

if you see "boot from cd_" then there's nothing wrong with the bios setting. could be a bad cd/dvd drive if it restarts itself. normally it'll say "non bootable disk" if it's a bad disk.

During the process of upgrading to the correct BIOS if any issue arises on the system. You will have to replace the system board on the computer by contacting the expired warranty repairs team of your region for charged repairs as Dell would not be responsible for the issues.

I have a windows 10 tablet and the clock is constantly losing time by significant amounts. Just a few minutes after starting the clock slows by as much as 10min and eventually gets to several hours slow.

Yes, the time and timezone are set correctly in settings.

Yes, it is set up to sync with time.nist.gov

The really puzzling thing is that the bios/uefi clock is correct and stays correct. So in my limited knowledge it seems the problem must be with windows.

Any ideas how to fix this?

A:Clock constantly loses time, correct in bios

Boot to Safe Mode and see if it still happens. If not then something is starting at boot and continuing to run that is causing the problem. Use Clean Boot to isolate the cause of the problem.

You will just waste your time.  I had to use a backup. I could not remove the effect of the hack. Even System restore was damaged. I was unable not restore at any point before the hack.

A:The XP POS Hack is very bad.

Thanks for sharing this... as for I was tempted to check it out on an XP machine I have. I'll avoid it now.

very recently I got spyware and I came on this site and somebody helped me to remove it. This was the forum: http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/1077096-all-my-files-deleted-scared.html

I have been getting several emails today telling me that someone has been trying to get into my email. I am freaking out right now. What do I do????

A:Someone is trying to Hack me.

I feel sorry for you man, you could just format your computer or scan using an anti-virus not, download a lot of programs that somebody from the forums sent you..
Also did you scan the files he sent/made you download before using them? Also, try formatting your computer for a fresh start.

hi, i'm not sure that this is the correct section for this topic... if not, please move it to the correct one...

Today I played Generals Zero Hour online on my secondary PC... after a player cheated, in the game's chat appeared some strange messages... They were like courses of folders in my PC... like C/WINDOWS/system32/...

the messages appeared a lot of times in a moment...
Is this a hack?
(actually i don't have an anti-virus on this pc because it would slow the system...)

A:is this a hack?

Typically it's very difficult for a player to connect to another player through the game like that as everything has to pass through the game server itself.

I don't have any experience with the particular game you are talking about though.
It's possible his exploit caused your system to produce some 'file not found' results because you did not have the exploit as well.

A:Was it a hack?

Hello. Hacking (English verb to hack, singular noun a hack) refers to the re-configuring or re-programming of a system to function in ways not facilitated by the owner, administrator, or designer. The term(s) have several related meanings in the technology and computer science fields, wherein a "hack" may refer to a clever or quick fix to a computer program problem, or to what may be perceived to be a clumsy or inelegant (but usually relatively quick) solution to a problem, such as a "kludge".The terms "hack" and "hacking" are also used to refer to a modification of a program or device to give the user access to features that were otherwise unavailable, such as by circuit bending. It is from this usage that the term "hacking" is often used to refer to more nefarious criminal uses such as identity theft, credit card fraud or other actions categorized as computer crime.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hack_(technology)Now SunBelt Software sells Antivirus tools etc,,As you said you whipped out yours. What one was it and why was it needing whipping out??It looks like a Rogue antivirus/spyware application attemted to install. we should run a scan..Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.Troubleshoot Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Hello. I'm new the the forum and thanks in advance for any reply's.

For the past couple of days there have been multiple processes running in the task manager like winlogin, dwm, and conhost. So I ran multiple virus scans and nothing appeared to be wrong. I then decided to change my user account login password for windows, restarted my computer and now all those multiple process are no longer there and my pc booted up faster and over all running better.

Is is possible that I was being piggy-backed and spied on? I would like some more experienced opinions on what was going on there. Thanks.

A:Possible Hack?

k, what version of windows? I mean, no it doesnt sound like a problem, but what about these things makes you think your being spied on? What did you do?

my computers homepage is black and in big letters says warning spyware detected on your computer. install an anti virus or spyware remover to clean your computer. then says view the list of top spamwares here with an option to click on it, which brings me to the 2nd part of that black page only this page is from tesla.com and gives a list of spywares xs remover, world anti spy, winhound, and ps guard all brands of spy or ad removal. Have i lost you? Can anyone help ? dont know where to start. would like to know what it is because of a possible hack issue? thanks for your time and almost forgot computer illeterate....

A:need help possible hack ??????

Nope, haven't lost me....sounds like you have a smitfraud variant. First thing to do is post a HJT log for us to review.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS\

Double click on HijackThis.exe to run the program.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

I use a VPN Service. Inorder to prevent DNS Leaks, I have set my DNS Servers to a couple of servers hosted by members of OPENNIC Project. The DNS servers are located in Singapore.
Now, when I ran a malware scan by Zemana AM, it said DNS Hack and reset the DNS ot Google DNS.
I changed the DNS Servers back to the OPENNIC ones in Singapore and ran Rogue Killer Free.
The app also reported Nameserver issue for the DNS entries in Singapore.
Why is this happening?
Afterall I have manually set the DNS to valid ones hosted by OPENNIC Project.
Any assistance would be most welcome.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.

Hi phadDownload SDFix and save it to your Desktop.Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :Restart your computerAfter hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.Choose your usual account. Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script. Type Y to begin the cleanup process. It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot. Press any Key and it will restart the PC. When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons. Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum). Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Can anyone point me in the right direction where I can find the program Hijack This!? I see a lot of links posted but everyone I try comes up empty. Thanks in advance.

A:Hack This!

From Dvk01:
Go to http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe and download 'Hijack This!'.
make sure it is placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log (in the security section)
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

If Merijn.org is still down due to the DDOS attack on it, the alternative download sites for Hijackthis are:
http://www.oneknight.co.uk
http://www.sherrylynn.us/HijackThis.exe
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

Hi guys

Someone on Facebook was claiming he can get the passwords to anyone's email account. I asked him to tell me mine to see if my account was open to fraud. He claims he was in my account, but wouldn't tell me my password or any emails in it. Just sent a rather suspect looking screen shot of an email from my address to him. None of my account shows traces e.g sent and nothing at all shows my end.

Just wondered if there is a programme that he has used to make it appear as though I emailed him or wether I should be concerned.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, that is fairly easy to do. The From section of an email is set by the sender, and though by default most email programs will set it to the account they're actually using, they don't have to.
(And of course, if the only evidence you have is a screenshot he could even not have done that. Pictures are even easier to manipulate!)

But, if you want to help him, his twitter handle is @ColtCabana and if he ask how you know, tell him my twitter handle @MsLindsieStarr

Thanks!

A:I don't know if this would be right: Bot hack server

All I can do for you is post this information for you to pass on:

If your Yahoo mail account has been hacked, it may not have anything to do with you.
If you contact Yahoo, they will tell you to use a more secure password.
That's good advice, but not necessarily the source of the problem.
There is a fair likelihood that the fault lies with Yahoo servers.
Yahoo has been unwilling or unable to make their e-mail service adequately secure.
IT experts have blogged about it for years.
If criminals can hack into Yahoo servers, they can get all your information, including your passwords, e-mails and recipients addresses.
The resulting spam is sometimes just a nuisance, but sometimes it's porn.
Some recent articles:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_3366259.html
http://arstechnica.com/security/2013...s-hack-attack/
Yahoo even has a plan to recycle inactive user IDs ! :
http://www.webpronews.com/yahoo-rais...-plans-2013-06

Until things change, I would suggest you save any critical Yahoo e-mails and address book(s), then establish a new e-mail account with a different provider.
Your Internet Service provider will likely offer free e-mail accounts.
I would then delete everything in all Yahoo e-mail folders (inbox, sent box, trash/deleted box), and delete your Yahoo account(s)..
Directions on how to save the Yahoo address book are here:
http://email.about.com/od/yahoomailt...dress_Book.htm
Yahoo directions on backing up e-mails are here: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/back-emails-sln5033.html

Hey All,

We had a client enable annonymous ftp and they were hacked and had a warez site setup. It is using invalid as well as reserved directory structures, nothing at all is deleteable.

The only real close situation i can find searching (for a day) is to use dir /x to get short file names then delete that way. This doesn't work in this situation, they still display as per usual, and in the situation where they suggest that for a fix.. they were only dealing with reserved names like com1 etc, not completely invalid directory names that windows can't detect when deleting.

Any ideas?

I have the free download of Zone Alarm running and up until now it`s been fine.
How do I know if he`s still there and if so how do I get rid of him?.

A:hack attack

1) Run an online scan at <A HREF="http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/">Trend Micro HouseCall </A>

2) Download a trial version of <A HREF="http://www.moosoft.com/intro.php">The Cleaner </A>, update with MooLive after D/L, ands deep-scan your drives.

3) If you're running Win95, 98, or ME, download StartLog.com from this site: http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Only_IE.html

Doubleclick it, and it will generate a text file on your desktop that will list all the applications that start in the many places when you start Windows.

We don't need to see StubPath.txt, just Startup.Log

Just go to 'Edit/select all', copy it, and show it to us.

If you've got a trojan, it'll show.

And afterwards, do change all your passwords!

changed email password again, but no difference
nothing odd or unusual going on with email
cannot type rapidly or keystrokes do not register, long pause must occur between typing double letters

just to add to confusion, small dog often jumps up on desk if i leave momentarily, and has typed strange things/sites by walking on keys or mouse....so, not sure whether this may be related to dog-type

I was on my computer and not sure but think i was video hacked Computer got glitchy and a video of a guy stating he was a hacker and this is how he makes his money popped up on screen I was able to close out before it ended it seemed to be a three minute video was looking for a possible ad placement but could not scroll down This guy was not shy had no cover I proceeded to close out everything scan the computer with malewarebytes bit defender superantispyware ccleaner also changed passwords on the site i was on and for the router reset all Hack Video browsers and checked the processes but manually not sure if i should use a tool for that last Hack Video one there doesn't seem to be any issue with the computer but i do my banking on my home network and I did scan all computers in the house Hack Video Is this a new thing to watch for or Hack Video was it an possible ad can't find any info online about it thanks so much for any input

A:Hack Video

My first thought is that it was an ad for either a legit or rogue security program. Since you didn't watch the entire video...we may never
know if it had a happy or sad ending or whatever. Unless someone reading this has seen the video.

It would be a good idea to scan your computer for adware. Below are the instructions for using two of the best around for finding and removing adware.
If you had been using a script blocker such as NoScript then you would of either not seen the video or it could only appear if you had allowed adware
to be present on your computer. Adblock Plus is excellent for blocking most legit ad servers from displaying ads. Both are available as add-ons in Firefox.
If you use Google Chrome Adblock Plus is available and there are at least two script blockers available for Chrome.

Check for adware using AdwCleaner.
download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
After reviewing the log, click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

My friend came to me with a telephone with some India-sounding guy on the other end saying the computer was hacked I started but Hack, Possible Clear All speaking to the guy and immediately I knew something wasn't right Not only were there no problems but I had scanned the computer a day earlier with three programs just regular checking -- no particular reason He said he called them because his laptop was hacked I have the computer set up -- best to my knowledge -- to not communicate with the laptop since they are both going through the wireless internet linker I started grilling him some 'cause it wasn't sounding right I asked him to leave a number He said he gave a number with information in a text file on the laptop We go to the laptop Sure enough it's there Turns out my friend has once again fallen for a scammer They didn't call him he called them I had to point out to him the number he called was from a SCAM PAGE that Possible Hack, but All Clear popped up He's actually dumb enough to think HP is not only monitoring every computer's activity all day but has the stay to do that and can afford it He just doesn't think -- he let's the scammer lead the conversation and set the facts This is a big deal he let them into the computer I can't believe he did that So my quick thinking got him off the phone and I went to work on his laptop Thankfully I had the common sense Possible Hack, but All Clear to not let that guy into this computer Had I not been there that's exactly what my friend would have done When he's he's gonna falls for these things left and right I didn't want to bother anybody here Possible Hack, but All Clear until I ran scans I ran multiple programs to check things out RKill Malwarebytes TDSSKiller TFC strong just to also clear out the junk he's built up The McAfee program pre-intalled on the computer and I also ran the free ESET online scanner I ran these in regular mode and Safe Mode Everything came up clear -- not a single thing I also had him change his password at his online bank account from this computer to play it safe I also double checked this computer just in case still all clear with no signs of trouble I feel confident it's clear of any potential threat but as I told him he let the guy into his computer so there's no telling if he installed a keylogger or a backdoor and that only time will tell if he did And to play it safe I also went back to a clean Restore Point incase anything had been changed that didn't come up in the scans I don't think -- in my non professional knowledge -- there's anything else to be done but I just wanted to run it by the professionals here just in case The laptop is running on Windows and both IE Edge and Google Chrome

A:my IP address is trying to hack it's self.

Hi timothy and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see no signs of viruses or malware at this time. The log is clean.

The traffic you are seeing is probably part of the Netbios protocol which can be enabled to ride on top of the TCP/IP protocol. It is used in netowrk segments or home networks to broadcast information regarding the computer and to let other computers know that it is on the segment. It is a connectionless protocol so you do not have to worry about it. It is a normal function fo networked PC's. You can block this at the PC's firewall and it doesn't matter other than that the computer might not show up when another computer on that segment browses the network.

ET is not phoning home and the computer is not posessed .

It is just a normal function of a networked computer.

Cheers.

So, my wifi router has been hacked into, and someone is leeching off my connection. I try to catch him and pull the plug on him when I can, but that strange notebook still keeps appearing in the network.

My trouble isn't with someone using my connection as such but with my files. File and printer sharing is turned off, and so is media, but new media devices keep appearing and disappearing. Like right now, something called HP HP HP ??? Nothing is connected to my computer and Windows Media Player is off. Also, that computer keeps coming and going, is there a chance he can hack my computer even though file sharing is off?

A:What is going on? Can this person hack me?

First things first; lets make sure your routers security is setup and active. This is the first line of defense. Change the default user name and password. Make them something unique and hard. Then turn off the SSID broadcast...if unseen no one will even look for you.

How to Disable Service Set Identifier (SSID) Broadcasting on Your Wireless Router

Router Setup and Configuration Guide - Setup a Router

This will lock all access to your wireless network, except for those who you allow to have access to your wireless connectivity.

A:Suspected Hack

G'day Steve,

What the message means is that some of the Windows? core files have been damaged; this is possibly from the malware issues that you had.

To rectify this, do this... (you will need your original Windows? XP Disc)...

Insert your Windows? XP CD in the Drive (Hold down the Shift key to prevent it from running); then Go Start > Run...in the Command Box type this sfc /scannow. (Please note the space between the c and /.)
This will activate the Windows? System File Checker sfc, which will scan all the original system core files and check that they are all in their right places, and if not replace them from your CD.
Please do not do any other work on your computer whilst this process is running; also disable any scheduled anti-virus scans until the sfc has finished.
It usually takes about 35 - 55 minutes to complete....you may be asked to insert your Windows? disc (which is already in the Drive); so just hit retry and let the SFC do its thing.
Once completed, remove the CD and reboot the computer; all should be 'normal' after the reboot.
Post back with the results and any other queries/concerns.

What, if any, benefits would their be in performing the following. It was found at MVPS.ORG and recommended if using their hosts file with DNS Client in manual or disabled.
----
# Flush the existing DNS cache

# Start > Run (type) regedit
# Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters

# Click Edit > New > DWORD Value (type) MaxCacheTtl

# Click Edit > New > DWORD Value (type) MaxNegativeCacheTtl

# Next right-click on the MaxCacheTtl entry (right pane) and select: Modify and change the value to 1

# The MaxNegativeCacheTtl entry should already have a value of 0 (leave it that way - see screenshot)

# Close Regedit and reboot ..

P.S. forgot to say it is for a laptop. I have tried it and my boot time trebled.
What effect, as above, would using the hack with DNS on auto and not using the hosts file.
