Server 2003: (Event Viewer) error every 5 minutes RE: DNS Server

Q: Server 2003: (Event Viewer) error every 5 minutes RE: DNS Server

Every 5 minutes I get this error message popping up under event viewer on a Windows 2003 Small Business Server (all updates etc):

Event ID: 1054

Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (An unexpected network error occurred. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I have done the MS Support site "recommendations", but the Server is pointing to itself for the DNS and the IP address and all that are fine. Not sure why or what is going on here. I can't seem to stop it.

Preferred Solution: Server 2003: (Event Viewer) error every 5 minutes RE: DNS Server

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello

We have a Server 2003, logged on as administrator account or administrator privilege, Event Viewer allows Save then Clear, but not Clear and save.
From the server,
Event Viewer
Select Application
Clear All Events
Do you want to save ?Application? before clearing?
Yes
Save ?Application? As
Message ?Clearing the event log failed because of the following error:? Access is denied
From the server,
Event Viewer
Select Application
Save log file as
Save
Then Clear, No problem

Any ideas what would cause this? Worked for years Event Viewer Clear, then Save As, but now only save first, then clear

Thanks

B.

I recently posted this : http://forums.techguy.org/networking/606462-ads-monitoring.html

It was very understandable, and since then I am now logging any changes made in Active Directory by the "Domain Admins" group.

The only problem I have is that I see all the logs are logged and reside in the Admin Tools>Event Viewer>Secuirty Log.

This log contains ALOT of logs from user access to the domain controller and other network variables.

Is there ANY WAY to make the logging of the "Domain Admins" group for ADS appear in its own "area" or "log" so to speak. This way I dont have to filter through all this stuff in order just to see who and what is going on in ADS?
Thanks

A:Event Viewer on Server 2003, Question.

Off the top of my head I do not know how. But you can use the filter in view as you already know. Might be a little clunky but it works.

So while I'm browsing the internet, every so often I get a random Server Not Found message. It happens less than a second after I click the link so it's like an instant timeout. And once in a while, warnings show up in my event viewer like this:

And today my internet went out all together and I got an error saying "The DNS
server isn't responding."

This has been happening for months and I didn't think much of it but now it's starting to annoy me.

I'm using a 2wire 2701HG-B gateway/modem/router thing. It's connected to my computer with a yellow ethernet cord and it's also used to connect to a laptop in another room wirelessly. It happens both on the laptop and my desktop.

A:Problems with random 'Server Not Found' errors & event viewer warnings

Have you attempted to reset the router or have you tried using a different DNS server. You can change the DNS server by going into your routers control panel.

A:Server Issues, paging operation, backup list, problems in event viewer

And which of these is actually causing you any problem?

The paging one is for your CD-ROM. It can't be paged, anyway, and that error is found on a lot of machines.

None of those errors rise to the level that if I had them myself, I would waste time trying to fix them.

We are running 7 servers, 5 Windows Server 2000 (one of which is the DC) and 2 Windows Server 2003 (the one generating these errors is a file server). I have no complaints of users not being able to log in and this does not seem to be causing any network problems, but I am curious how I can resolve this issue so that this does not fill up my event logs. If anyone can help, this would be great appreciated.

I am running M$ Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server.

The POP3 connector that is part of Exchange 2003 that comes with it has a 15 minute limitation for checking users POP3 accounts.
################

The POP3 connector is there so you can transition your company's existing POP accounts slowly over to using your own domain for E-Mail

##############

Problem: For a Company with say 10 users, checking their old POP E-mail accounts once every 15 minutes is a little silly. It's just too long of a period of time.

I need to be able to change this to something like 3 minutes.

##############

I have seen this question asked all over the Internet, but I have not seen a solution.

I am guessing there is a registry key somewhere to get this setting down to something lower.

A:Solved: Difference b/w Windows Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server has the following restrictions:
- Only one computer in a domain can be running Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server must be the root of the Active Directory« forest.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server cannot trust any other domains.
- A Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server domain cannot have any child domains.
- Each additional server must have a Windows Small Business Server 2003 client access license (CAL). You can use CALs for each user or for each device.
The standard edition of Windows Small Business Server 2003 includes Windows Server 2003 technologies, including fax service, firewall service, and remote-access service. Additionally, it includes Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, enhanced tools for server monitoring and administration, and an out-of-the-box solution for internal Web sites. The standard edition is ideal for customers who do not require the higher-level functionality included in the premium edition

The premium edition includes everything in the standard edition, plus Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000, and Microsoft FrontPage« 2003. The premium edition is ideal for small businesses with more demanding IT needs, such as data-intensive line-of-business applications, or advanced firewall and Web-caching capabilities

The standard edition has most of the stuffs inside.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Ah Symantec strikes again.

Both your minidumps crash at SYMEVENT.SYS. This is the Symantec Event Library.

This is a known issue on some systems/configurations.

Contact Symantec for more info.

If you can`t fix this problem, maybe you should try a different security product.

I just recently got a Dell Dimension C Athlon X GB memory Vista Business at my job We have a Windows server upstairs that all our computers connect to The server has some group policies some software installation stuff and some other things that it does on the client computers So I added a computer reference for this computer on the server and then connected this one to the domain I logged on and it started doing some of the auto install stuff setting up Internet Options etc It took a really long time I thought it was just because this was the first time this computer had connected to the server is why it took so long But for the past week that I've been logging onto the server it's been taking this Vista computer around eight Up Vista 2003 To Minutes Around Start Windows Takes To When 8 Server Connecting minutes to finally get done loading It gets through the logon screen and gets to the desktop and then Vista Takes Around 8 Minutes To Start Up When Connecting To Windows 2003 Server it just sits there the hard drive running I'll sit and wait and about a minute later the internet icon comes up I try to click on IE and it just sits there for about three minutes and then finally IE will come up but I still can't do anything with it for another two-three minutes See what I mean And if I try hitting Ctrl Alt Del it sits there for about a minute and then comes up with a quot Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog Failure - security options quot seems like the security policy hasn't been put into place yet or something who knows So my question is what in the world is causing Vista to take so long loading when it connects to a Windows server It started up within seconds when I was just using the computer locally Any help you can offer would be amazing thanks

A:Vista Takes Around 8 Minutes To Start Up When Connecting To Windows 2003 Server

Try checking the Event Viewer for errors around the login time (Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter). Check all the logs for anything that might look significant.

Hi All,

urgent help require. recently i am facing big issue that my server auto restart itself. When i check the Event show as below:

Event ID:1005
Source: Save Dump
Description: unable to produce minidump file from the full dump file

Event ID: 1001
Source: 1001
Source: Save Dump
Description: the computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was 0x00000027 (0xb550d76c, 0xb550d468, 0xb550d468, 0x8846165e). A dump was saved in C:windows\memory.dmp

Please advise and hope able to provide me a better solution to avoid my server restart itself again.

Thank You.

A:Windows Server 2003 auto restart - Event ID 1005 / 1001 (Source Save Dump)

Without seeing the minidumps this is your error per auhma.org:

0x00000027: RDR_FILE_SYSTEM
This is a rare and fairly obscure error condition. Memory management issues can be one cause, and adding additional RAM commonly will resolve this version of the problem.

Server 2003 sync with offline files created offline syncing back to the server I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer All files are available offline without Offline Folder sync issue, Win 7 Client Server 2003 Flie Server. issue Here is the issue however If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win clients on this file server Steps taken so far Checked and reset permission levels on the share Recreated new shares from scratch for testing Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache Check various registry entry settings Disabled cashing on the File server Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP I have spent hours researching this error online to no avail The clients are running Windows Enterprise bit The File server is Server Standard bit with SP Any help or ideas would be most welcome

A:Offline Folder sync issue, Win 7 Client Server 2003 Flie Server.

I've seen the complaints about this problem but with no clear resolution. There are some hot fixes listed that may help, updating to Windows 7 SP1 is supposed to help in some cases but nothing seems for certain.

No way for me to recreate this problem but apparently others have the same problem.

A:Setting up Pix 515E in front of ISA Server 2004 and Exchange Server 2003

Here, I scrapped your config. NAT bad/static bad/conduit bad/access-list bad.

no fixup protocol smtp
nameif int xxx outside security 0
nameif int xxx inside security 100
nameif int xxx dmz security 80
icmp permit any outside echo-reply
icmp permit any outside unreachable
icmp permit any inside
icmp permit any dmz
global (outside) 1 int
nat (inside) 1 172.17.0.0 255.255.0.0 32768 16483
route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 65.77.78.1 1
static (inside,dmz) 172.17.0.0 172.17.0.0 255.255.0.0
static (dmz,outside) 172.18.0.2 65.77.78.48 netmask 255.255.255.255 << Can't have same IP as interface**
access-list internet permit tcp any host 65.77.78.48 eq 80
access-list internet permit tcp any host 65.77.78.48 eq 443
access-list internet permit tcp any host 65.77.78.48 eq 25
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq echo
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq echo-reply
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq unreachable
access-list internet permit icmp any any eq source-quench
access-group internet in interface outside
access-list dmz permit ip host 172.18.0.2 any << *Read note 1
access-group dmz in interface dmz
access-list inside permit ip any any
access-group inside in interface inside

The above config will nat 172.18.0.2 to 65.77.78.48. You can't static NAT an entire IP to the same as a global (your interface). You can only do this if you NAT specific ports.

The above config will allow internet to reach 65.77.78.48 via TCP 80/443/25. I can only assume you're using ISA for EFE server, and maybe proxy. (Not an ISA fan)

The above config allows your ISA server carte-blanche access. In essence, it's a DMZ by name only. Don't fool yourself.

Don't use conduits, they're deprecated.

Don't use a firewall to permit "any" to your ISA server, actually use it to block inbound ports.

Also, your ISA server shouldn't/can't have two NIC's in the same subnet. That's a bad idea on 10 different levels. IF you're using your ISA server (blech) as EFE / reverse proxy for OWA, and outbound proxy - you might as well keep it on the same subnet as your Exchange server (inside, I'm assuming.) Again, 10 different reasons why it's a flawed security plan.

If this is simply an EFE server or reverse proxy, make sure you don't keep the ISA server part of any AD domain, stick it in the DMZ, and restrict what hosts it's allowed to see on the network that you're trying to protect.

Regards.

I'm having issues finding the location of en expired certificate that one of my LDAP servers responds with during an LDAPS bind attempt.

I'm using Linux's ldapsearch to perform specific tasks during user creation but recently discovered the certificate expired. I have renewed said certificate and placed it in the personal store on that ldapserver but after debugging the SSL connection it still responds with the previously expired certificate.

Can anyone tell me where this certificate would be stored on Windows Server 2003. I've found multiple post regarding the store in 2008 but that does not exist in 2003. I've searched the whole store using certutil trying to match the serial on this certificate but can't find it anywhere.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Currently we are on an NT network with a few 2000 servers tossed in. Today I learned that the plan is to migrate everything to Linux. Lets assume that this only applies to the servers and that the users will still operate with 98/nt/2000/xp. What are your thoughts on this?

I put this in this forum for a reason. Because I'd rather get the advice from 2000 and 2003 experts who know what Linux cannot replace than to hear the Linux fanboys and anti-Microsoft activists praise it to the high heavens.

What would your concerns be if this was done on your network? What problems have you encountered if you'd tried this? Or what successes? Know of any businesses that have done this successfully?

hi guys!
I just installed Windows 2000 Advance Server recently to a Compaq Proliant ML530 server and found out that the license for this server is more expensive than Windows Server 2003 Standard. The SmartStart CD of the compaq does not support windows server 2003 and I don't want to manually re-configure everything and start all over again. Does Win2K A.S. support Windows Server 2003 upgrade?

What are the steps involved in sharing Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2003 Server resources over a network?

Relevancy 82.99%

We had:

1) 1 Windows Server 2003 running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 workstations.

We now want to have:

1) 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 server running Active Directory services to manage logon and permissions for file sharing.
2) 15 same workstations, with their same user profiles.

So I joined the 2008 R2 server to the domain, and then used the dcpromo tool to make it a domain controller.

Problem is, whenever I take the old server offline, (the 2003 one) everything flips out, logons are slow, and the 2008 server gives people trying to access shared files weird errors like that the server that authenticated them cannot be contacted, and asks them to log in again with their username and password before accessing shared files on the server.

What did I do wrong? I must be forgetting something.

A:Replacing a Windows 2003 AD DS server with a 2008 R2 AD DS server

1. Transfer all FSMO roles to your 2008 R2 server
2. Uninstall AD on 2003 server
3. You can now permanently take 2003 server offline

From what I've read on this thread, you'll need to set computer-wide DCOM security permissions. You'll want to peruse that thread.

On another note, this isn't really the best spot for this question. An error message isn't a crash, hang or bsod, and the situation is more relevant to specifically the Windows Server section (even though OPC servers can and often do exist in many client versions of Windows). You'll be able to receive more help there, as it's pertinent to your needs.

I have two domain controllers with different domain names but on the same subnet and with active directory installed. One domain controller is win 2000 and the other is win 2003. The computers are in a workgroup the users don't log on but are connected to the win 2000 box with shares to a program. If I take active directory off the win 2000 box and demote will that affect the computers that are In a workgroup connected to the shares? I want to install all the programs and shares on the new win 2003 box but one computer win not let me log on to the win 2003 box it says no domain available. What can I do to slowly migrate the programs and shares to the new server?

I am getting constant error in the event viewer. Error ID 3012 which states an unexpected network error has occurred on the virtual circuit to <computer>. I've received various potential solutions to this problem but none seemed to work. Such examples are Win95 clients have the wrong vserver.vxd file but that wasn't it. We thought potential network cards are going bad but replaced a couple and that wasn't the answer. I realize this is an access denied error but what it seems like is win 95 is denying the access of nt. Please help the event viewer is filling up to fast.

A:{Resolved} - NT Terminal Server Event Error

Well I found another Knowledge base article which helped me out a little. Article ID Q137980 on Microsoft Knowledge Base. It has to do with vserver.vxd file. I kept getting redirector errors in the event log ID 3012. Which this article tells you you need an updated version of that file(ver 4.00.953). But when you run the service pack they want you to run it keeps it at 4.00.952 the original version. So I did some experimenting and ended up using the vserver.vxd file from a Win 95 version c wrkst. This version of vserver.vxd is 4.00111. Put that in the system folder of the wrkst and now not getting the redirector errors. The computer world is crazy!

I have a client who has an existing Server 2000 domain. He is running two Windows 2000 servers in his domain. What he's looking to do is to replace the master domain controller,(the server which was first brought up and hence contains the master copy of the domain database).

I believe that since this is going to be a completely new server and running Server 2003 standard edtiion I believe, that I'll need to first take everyone out of the domain, demote the second domain controller to a stand-alone and then demote the master domain controller which effectively dissolves the domain. Then after bringing the brand new server up, recreate the domain and then the secondary domain controller and join everyone back into domain (new SID but same domain name).

Does this sound correct-could anyone confirm whether this is correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Not sure if this is the correct forum. In the past I could use SCOPY to move users files from a File server (NT4 server) to a Windows 2000 server. From what I understand SCOPY does not work properly with 2003. Does Server 2003 have a similar utility to pring in files and retain security permissions ?

We have a Windows 7 Pro laptop that can't see any of the 300 or so Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Machines.

It can, however, see all (around 13) Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 Machines that are on the network. Using \\ServerName\Share doesn't connect, and they don't show up on the network map.

It can ping the servers though. They ping by hostname and by ip address. Other Windows 7 Pro Laptops don't have this same problem!

Additional Info:
They are all joined to the domain; servers, laptaps, etc.

OK I'm having a very strange problem that I cannot work out.

I'll start by saying that I have just removed a very old Novell server form my workplace and replaced it with a Windows Server 2003 sbs.

I have set the server up as the domain controller and configured it for file sharing and print sharing. All is well in the file sharing part and most of the printer sharing.

But there seems to be one printer I am having trouble with. It does work, but seems to randomly get a printing error or get an error if it has a lot of print jobs built up. The only way I can get rid of the error is if I cancel the job and then restart the printer. Obviously this isn't practical.

If anyone has any ideas on what it could be please help.

Please ask if you need any more information.

Thanks in advance

I believe they are Intel drivers but have failed to find a remedy to this problem.
Other than a real slow startup there appears to be no other problem.
Am I the only one with this problem and anybody know the cure?

So, you figured out where the problem is but why didn?t you installed another intel graphics drivers? I mean, you know where the problem is and you can resolve it.

Otherwise, if a reinstall does not help it would be better to completely recover your system to eliminate the problem.

I have had this problem for several weeks now, it causes random reboots.

I am running Trend Micro OfficeScan as antivirus, and it is detecting nothing. This server runs our facility's badge and door security software with a SQL database.

I have included 5 of the latest dumps, and they go back several weeks.

Our system administrator quit and I am trying to cover as best I can until someone gets hired or they bring in a temp to take over coverage.

A:Error code 00000500 on Server 2003

All MiniDumps are 0x50 errors, 2 cite memory corruption but the other 3 indicate this driver "tmtdi.sys" which ironically is a driver for Trend Micro Security.

Did these restarts occur while running Trend Mico?

Does this have to be Installed or can you remove it and install another Anti-Virus because that Trend Micro seems to be the cause, it causes the other 2 for Memory Corruption as well

I found the answer.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroup...-DC48AB0DA5C9&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us

The above discussion says that a service must enter a running state before a COM server calls CoRergisterClassObject. So I guess its a development problem.

Not sure why it only manifests on Windows Server 2003 though.

You don't need to make any changes or additions to shares in regards to VPN client's being able to access previous shares on the server. Whatever you have assigned for the LAN access can work for VPN.

Apparently you need to tell Windows that you want to use the machine as a file server and that it should allocate resources accordingly.  Set the following registry key to ‘1′:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache
and set the following registry key to ‘3′:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size

A:BSOD Error 0*0000007b, While installing server 2003

The error means just as it says: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. It means that when attempting to access and mount the drive that Windows Server 2003 will install on, it fails. There can be many reasons that could cause this, but often it is because the drive is bad and must be replaced.

You should first attempt to remedy using the Recovery Console. You can access it by doing the following (taken from this article):

Use the Recovery Console on a Computer that Does Not Start
NOTE: You must be logged on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to perform this procedure. Also, if your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from completing this procedure.

To run the Recovery Console, follow these steps:Configure the computer to start from the CD or the DVD drive. For more information about how to do this, see the computer documentation or contact the computer manufacturer.
Insert the Windows Server 2003 CD in the computer's CD or DVD drive.
Restart the computer.
When you receive the message that prompts you to press any key to start from the CD, press a key to start the computer from the Windows Server 2003 CD.
When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press the R key to start the Recovery Console.
Select the Windows installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen, type the Administrator password, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the appropriate Recovery Console commands to repair your Windows Server 2003 installation.

When you are in the Recovery Console, type chkdsk /R. Let it finish. If it comes up with multiple bad block/sector errors, you most certainly have a bad drive. When it is done, check if that resolves the problem. If it does not, go back to the Recovery Console and use fixboot followed by fixmbr. You may have to give fixmbr a drive letter for the drive you want to install Server 2003 on (so for drive C it would be fixmbr C). Hopefully that all works.

I just upgraded a Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server and now the IAS (Internet Authentication Service) won't start. The error message states: Could not start the IAS service on Local Computer. Error 0x8007007f: the specified procedure could not be found.

Any ideas?

I have an original completely LEGAL copy of Windows Server 2003. During Installation I get a few errors saying it cannot find the following files on the disk:

mswrd632.wp_
icwconn2.ex_
inetwiz.ex_
icwrmind.ex_

Does anyone know how I can solve this or where I can download the files and try copy them from a floppy to hard drive using command promp
Thanks

A:Copying Files error when installing Windows Server 2003

Usually files aren't found because of CD has scratches / dirt on it. Sometimes the drives themselves don't work with some discs and you could try another drive (for the installation).

Are you able to finish the installation without those files? If you are, check if they really are on the CD and use expand command in the command prompt to uncompress them.

mswrd632.wp_ is MS Word document converter for Wordpad (and maybe other applications too) and goes to %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv (filename mswrd632.wpc).

The rest .exe files are Internet connection wizard's files and go to %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard, if I'm not mistaken.

If you use another way to setup your network connection and don't read Word 6 documents with Wordpad, you could just ignore those files.

1. Swing Migration - http://www.sbsmigration.com

2. forklift. Image your installation and restore it to your new hardware. Some information on this method at http://www.smallbizserver.net. Check out google groups also for some info also.

3. Theres a Microsoft tool called Active Directory Migration Tool. For this you'll need to rename your server and you domain http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=16414

Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications.

This is listed under AppInit_DLLs in the registry and the dll being loaded is nvinitx.dll, from what I can find out this has to do with the optimus function on my laptop and having it loaded is okay. I just want to get rid of the error message being logged everytime I boot.

I've run into an issue several times when trying to copy an entire share from one server to another. In this case, it happens to be from a Mac to a Windows server (just in case that's relative to the problem). The command I was using is:

robocopy \\MacDASD\Boards \\SRVRWIN78\Boards /S /FFT /XJ /R:1 /W:5 /V /TS /TEE /L

This runs fine, showing all the files and subfolders from the Mac's 'Boards' share that would have been copied. However, once the '/L' is removed to actually run the command I get 'ERROR 2 (0x00000002) Accessing Source Directory \\MacDASD\Boards. Running Robocopy for each of the subfolders under the 'Boards' share, however, works fine. It seems it just can't do the entire share at once. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Robocopying an entire share from server to server gets error 2

A quick search indicates error 2 could be:
- Some Extra files or directories were detected. Examine the output log.
- The system cannot find the file specified.

You could try to increase the retry parameter from /R:1 to a higher value.

I also found this but I don't know if it's correct or not, nor if error, exit codes and errorlevel are equal values:
Note also that bit 0x02 simply indicates that there are files at the destination that are not present at the source. This will happen if the /E switch is used and files have been deleted from the source since a previous copy was taken. It should not happen if the /MIR switch is used because that should delete files at the destination to mirror the source (but I haven't tested this).

I have configured a server with Windows Small Business Server 2003. I have set it up to run using a workgroup and not domain. Now periodically the server shutsdown on its own listing the above mentioned Event ID which indicate that ;

"this computer must be configured as a domain controller"

Microsoft's description states that this is the cause of the servers operating system integrated setup was not complete. This is the only server on the network and otherwise the network itself has been running fine outside of the periodic shutdowns.

My question is how can this be done now after the fact and what dtepsd must be taken?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

It says that the most common cause for this error is a circular reference in the TCP/IP or DNS settings. I not a real ace when it comes to DNS settings, but I checked out everything I can think of, and can find no reference to an internal IP.

The network is running just fine, but I'm sure this event is evil and must be destroyed (or at least ignored).

A:Odd repeating event in W2K server...

Depending on the configuration and services running on a particular computer, different components perform dynamic DNS updates. There is no centralized way (such as a tool or registry keys) to manage the dynamic DNS update behavior of all components. This article describes each component and how to modify that particular component's behavior.

Which is causing the problem, I recommend you Disable Windows 2000 Dynamic DNS registrations, see:

A:COM server in event view

I would suggest not to bother about event viewer "issues" unless it is causing you a problem. Often the fact they are written to the log is the only issue. However (I'm a bit OCD) this works.. (Post #5)
