I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I do have to do that, right?

A:Need to temporarily disable my AV?

Hello and Welcome to TSF.

It is not really necessary to disable them for our initial scanning tools, just be sure there are no scheduled scans while running the tools.

Please post/attach the logs in a new thread, as this one shall be closed.

Hello and welcome!! I moved your post from Intro's to here.We would need to know which firewall you are using to help you disable it. Or you can look trough here. How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware ProgramsBut this may be easier.........Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system.[/color][/b] Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.Look for "JDK 6 Update 20 (JDK or JRE)".Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.Select your Platform: "Windows".Select your Language: "Multi-language".Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".Click Continue and the page will refresh.Under Required Files, check the box for Windows Offline Installation, click the link below it and save the file to your desktop.Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u20-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version. If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator. When the Java Setup - Welcome window opens, click the Install > button. If offered to install a Toolbar, just uncheck the box before continuing unless you want it.-- Starting with Java 6u10, the uninstaller incorporated in each new release uses Enhanced Auto update to automatically remove the previous version when updating to a later update release. It will not remove older versions, so they will need to be removed manually.-- Java is updated frequently. If you want to be automatically notified of future updates, just turn on the Java Automatic Update feature and you will not have to remember to update when Java releases a new version.Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click Ok and reboot your computer.

The problem is that the E drive goes to sleep after XX minutes but some applications or processes (e.g. Empty Recycle Bin) want to wake it up before they work, which means a delay of ~10 seconds as the E drive spins up - very annoying.

How can I temporarily disable the drive until I need it for the once a day backup?

I want to play an HD video though a projector on my laptop. The laptop plays it fine, but I'm worried about things like Windows updates, virus scans and other processes suddenly slowing it down or displaying messages on the screen while the audience are watching it. I know how to disable some of these things manually, but its easy to forget something and I was just wondering if there is some sort of "minimal" mode where only the bare essentials are running? Hello all, I'm about to have a meltdown caused by Win updates. I'm trying to recover data from a 8TB drive, and it's taking an unusually long amount of time (1+ week), but it's progressing and about done. The drive in question is on it's last leg and the BIOS fails SMART, I don't know if I'll have another chance to run this drive for a week. Is there any way to completely disable the reboot until this process is done? I googled this a few times, and there were a few things that made sense, but they were somewhat dated and comments led me to believe that policy updates no longer allowed this. In a corporate environment, auto reboots are a cool idea, but for home use it's not such a swell idea..

I was curious if anybody knew this. I could not find it anywhere and had never heard of it. Is there a way to temporarily disable an email account? Like a pause button. So if I 'pause' a specific account (I have approx. 6 email accounts in my Outlook, mostly POP3 & Exchange), when I hit Send/Receive it will not be included, but if I 'unpause' it shall be included. Is there a feature like this?

If this is possible I'd like to implement this in a family members of mine computer. So it must be 'stupid proof' if it is.

A:Can I disable my Wireless Network Connection?

If your computer is connected via a cable there are generally no problems with disabling the wireless connection.

You can do this from Control Panel|Network and Sharing Centre, Click on change adapter settings, right click the wireless connection, left click on disable.

If your computer is a laptop then there is usually a button on the side or front that will also disable wireless.

A friend gave me a Linksys WRV54G wireless router which I'm using only as a wired router for my computer, tivo, and media player. After resetting it, the default settings connected everything fine. So far I've only changed the password.

In the "Wireless/Basic Wireless Settings" tab "Wireless Network Mode" is currently set to "Mixed". Should I go ahead and set that to "Disable" so no one can log onto my network? Also, in that same tab, "Wireless SSID Broadcast" is enabled. Should I disable that? Are there any other security settings I should adjust? (The firewall is enabled.)

I'm running Win 7 32-bit.

A:Solved: Disable Wireless for Wired Local Network?

Yes, set the Wireless Network Mode to Disabled. That is all the wireless security you need, as that actually turns the wireless off. Since the radio is also the most power hungry component you will save a little electricity and the router should run cooler.

Somewhere there is a setting for "remote access." This is to allow a login to the router from the internet; disable it if you have no need to do so. And if you do enable this make sure your login password is a good one.

A:Securing a wireless home network- Don't disable the 'SSID Broadcast'?

I found the answer to my own question:
Hidden Wireless SSIDs Actually Leak Your SSID Name When you hide your wireless SSID on the router side of things, what actually happens behind the scenes is that your laptop or mobile device is going to start pinging over the air to try and find your router—no matter where you are. So you’re sitting there at the neighborhood coffee shop, and your laptop or iPhone is telling anybody with a network scanner that you’ve got a hidden network at your house or job. Microsoft’s Technet explains exactly why hidden SSIDs are not a security feature, especially with older clients:
A non-broadcast network is not undetectable. Non-broadcast networks are advertised in the probe requests sent out by wireless clients and in the responses to the probe requests sent by wireless APs. Unlike broadcast networks, wireless clients running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Server® 2003 with Service Pack 1 that are configured to connect to non-broadcast networks are constantly disclosing the SSID of those networks, even when those networks are not in range. Therefore, using non-broadcast networks compromises the privacy of the wireless network configuration of a Windows XP or Windows Server 2003-based wireless client because it is periodically disclosing its set of preferred non-broadcast wireless networks.Click to expand...

The behavior is a little better in Windows 7 or Vista as long as you don’t have automatic connection enabled—the only way to be sure that you’re not leaking the network name is to disable automatic connection to wireless networks with a hidden SSID. Microsoft’s explanation:
The Connect even if the network is not broadcasting check box determines whether the wireless network broadcasts (cleared, the default value) or does not broadcast (selected) its SSID. When selected, Wireless Auto Configuration sends probe requests to discover if the non-broadcast network is in range.Click to expand...

Hi Mark
since I have limitation knowledge regarding related product which caused this issue, I suggest you contact Intel for WiDI and Cisco regarding this VPN client
There supposed to be workaround that will fix this issue, I suspect this is maybe caused by version only, try to contact Cisco regarding which version that not conflict with WiDi, if still persist I suggest contact Intel why this certain version caused WiDi
What im suggest:
1. From the hardware site, make sure you have the latest update for processor, graphic card, and network related driver. PC manufactured site supposed to be have this files
2. From the Cisco side, other than update the DNE, ask Cisco regarding which version that might be work with WiDi
3. From the Intel side (WiDi), ask them how to configure this thing so it will not conflict with your Cisco VPN client
I also think this issue will be solved by upgrade driver (related to network), I cant make sure if certain version of Cisco VPN Client will be conflict with WiDi, that's why I suggest you to contact both Cisco and Intel
Please let us know the update, you reply might be help for the others
good luck

A:Wireless Network Connection will only connect to Internet if Lcl Area Connect disable

sounds about right! Your big issue will be the VPN, as it is frequently specifically
config'd to use a specific adaptor AND to force all tcp traffic thru that connection,
even though you want to do some trivial search.

Consider using a Hardware Profile to define
1) a LAN connection environment (ie no WiFi)
2) a WiFi environment (w/o a LAN)

the choice occurs at boot time and the hardware is enabled/disabled per
the profile.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together
From a John Will Post

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

Every so often, my WiFi on my PC will just stop working. It will disconnect from my wireless network, and then when I try to manually connect, it's not listed. Sometimes a restart works, sometimes it doesn't. This last time I had to restart twice. I know the WiFi router is not having problems, because my phone and AppleTV stay connected and stream just fine. The first times I noticed this, I was actually browsing the web and talking on Steam when it occurred. The last two times however, I left my computer on to finish up some downloads, came back in the morning, and it had disconnected and corrupted my downloads. Any help is greatly appreciated, so thank you in advance.

A:Wireless network disconnects, then fails to see the wireless network

Hello and welcome to 7 Forums ShaneLj.

Is this wifi adapter plugged into your PCi or PCIe slot in the desktop or a USB type adapter?
Would be helpful to also know what brand and model the wifi adapter is in order to Identify any issues that a manufacturer might already have a fix for.

Keys like Num Lock and Capslock popup a notification every time i toggle them on/off,as there are no lights on the keyboard.

I have the software and up-to-date drivers, but i can't find an option that turns off these notifications, can only turn off the DPI (mouse) notifications.

It doesn't bother me,but on some games it causes them to switch into windowed/borderless mode,or minimizes the game.

I have a I IBM Thinkpad T40 running Windows XP SP3. I also have a Mac running Mac OS X Leopard. On my Mac, the internet is working perfectly fine. However, on my Thinkpad, I cannot get an IP Address from the router unless I disable encryption on my Netgear WNR3500 Wireless Router. The encryption I am trying to use is WPA-PSK [TKIP]. Any ideas on this? It cannot be the router if the issue is not there on my Mac. Thanks.

A:No Wireless Unless I disable encryption

only thing i have to say is make sure you are typing in the correct pass-phrase when you try to connect the first time after setting up the encryption in the router

How can I stop Windows XP system from searching for wireless networks. In our secure environment it is necessary to disable the ability of all laptops and desktops to access or even attempt to detect a wireless network. Is there a way to insure that this is the case for all of our PCs. Additionally and of much less importance it would be nice if the users could reverse this restriction when they’re away from our network or on travel.

Just go into your BIOS and disable the wireless feature.

Also, if there's a wireless switch on your laptop, you can set that to OFF as well.

Hey everyone,

I would like to disable the SPI. Is it recommended to disable it. SPI is a firewall for a network layer. How do I disable Stateful? SPI=Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall for a network layer on routers. My router/modem combo is Linksys WCG200. Does that router have SPI?

A:Should I disable the network SPI?

It is not recommended to disable stateful packet inspection. It is an added layer of detection/protection.

Why would you ask about disabling it if you aren't sure your router has that feature?

Hello all...

This forum has helped me a lot concerning this win7 OS... I want to thank you all... Also, this is my first post... Anyone wanna welcome me? haha...

so I want to disable my wireless device EVERYTIME I startup... what I want is to enable this device (as in manually with a few clicks as possible) whenever I'd like to do some Internet stuff like this one... I've googled stuff but the common problem for them is to enable this device... However, I'd like to do the opposite...

so far, what i've done is to disable the wireless device from control panel, but since i usually turn my laptop off after i surf the net (which means that the wireless device is ON), the wireless device is turned still ON... and I want it to be turned OFF as a default...

hope someone can help me! Thanks again!

Now to your problem.
Let me know if this meets your needs--

You can go back there and click on Wireless On when you want wireless again.

I do this frequently for various reasons. Very convenient.

I know I can just uninstall the wireless drivers, but is there a better way?

For example, when I am not on the laptop the Wireless is completely disabled and cannot be enable in ANYWAY....while I am on the computer I have the option to enable it.

Is there anything like that?

A:Disable Network Alert?

I don't know how to disable the notification and I may have looked for this back in the Windows XP days and never found a solution. However I have an easy work around if your user name and passwords are the same on your server as the workstation.

Make short cuts to the mapped drives on your desktop, you can move them to your a place of your liking later. Open a command prompt and type:

net use * /d <enter>
net use /p:no <enter>
The code will remove your mapped drives and stop the machine from re-mapping them every time you log on. When you click on your shortcuts you will re-map the drive(s). Note: This will only work if the server is up and running, if the server is off or the server has not fully booted it will not work.

How can I disable network file sharing.

A:Disable Network Sharing

Got to Control Panel/Local Area Connection/Properties

Uncheck: File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

In fact, the only thing you need to have checked is: Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

The rest aren't needed on a stand-alone computer.
The Client is only needed if you're on a network.
QoS is only useful on large networks.
Link Layers are only needed if you're going to be connecting to non-Windows 7 computers.
IPv6 can be left checked if you like, but I don't think it's being used at the moment.

Have you seen this article? Mark Minasi's Reader Forum - Enable Network Discovery in Vista

It might help you...

In case you would like to enable LLTD and RSPNDR throughout the domain through Windows Server 2008 here are the steps:
1. Start Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). To do so Click Start, click Run, and then type gpmc.msc.
2. In the navigation Pane, open the following folders:
a. Forest
b. Domain
c. {Select the Domain that you would like to apply this policy to}
d. Group Policy Objects
e. Default Domain Policy
f. Computer Configuration
g. Policies
h. Administrative Templates
i. Network
j. Link-Layer Topology Discovery
3. In the details pane, double-click Turn on Mapper I/O (LLTDIO) Driver
a. To enable the responder component, click Enabled, and then select one or more of the following:
i. Allow operation while in domain
ii. Allow operation while in public network
iii. Prohibit operation while in private network
b. To disable the responder completely, click Disabled, and then click OK.
4. If you want to turn on the Responder Driver, in the details pane, double click Turn on Responder (RSPNDR) Driver.
a. To enable the responder component, click Enabled, and then select one or more of the following:
i. Allow operation while in domain
ii. Allow operation while in public network
iii. Prohibit operation while in private network
b. To disable the responder completely, click Disabled, and then click OK.

A:Cannot Disable Lan Via Network Connections

Found virus/trojan downloader*.* (morphing into gods know what!). I removed logitech camera, and the whole 018 listing disappeared. Wish I knew why Logitech thinks this is necessary. Found 3 administrator accounts, all active, all containing different files.

I gave up. Sent computer off to have hard drive reformatted --- $$$! Will get bill and computer back next week.

Thanks anyway! Great forums - great site - learned a lot.

Computer users beware - even your most trusted friends and family may actually be hiding a very nasty foe and they don't know it! Triple check that possibly fatal keystroke ----- are you sure? are you really, really sure?!

Every so often (it could be 5 minutes or an hour) I lose my connection. Then I have to disable and enable my wi-fi adapter (a Linksys USB adapter) to get it to work again. Usually that works until the next disconnection. However, sometimes even when I disable and enable it won't work for a few minutes of waiting and disabling and enabling again. I can connect to either a 5ghz connection or a more standard connection (I can't remember the ghz.. I think it's 2.2-2.4 or something), but I have the same problem either way. I've been having this problem for the past couple weeks or so. Before that I had the exact same connection set up and didn't have the problem.

Here's what it looks like when I'm connected:

Here's what it looks like when I get disconnected:

Finally, here's what it looks like when I disable the wi-fi adapter:

Any help would be much appreciated.

In OS X, it's very easy to turn on/off the wifi. You just click on the signal icon.

In Windows 7, I have to go to the tray, right click on the network icon, enable and disable adapter and also go through the annoying UAC popup. It's like 12 steps. Is there any shortcut or method to get it down to a couple of steps?

This problem has come up in alot of posts but I have yet to find a solution I have an Atheros mini PCI wireless adapter in an XP PC which connects fine to an Ad Hoc network with my iPhone or my router s network and then consistently disconnects of its own accord after about a minute I have updated the driver use Zero Config and other services reset Winsock - Disconnects wont or Disable Repair Wireless disabled UPnP on my router to remove the Internet Gateway tried different channels looked for other drivers in add remove programs all to no avail It also refuses to repair Windows could not finish repairing etc or disable The connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug and play the connection from the wireless connection icon in the system tray though it does work through the device manager I would post my network config but DOS now closes immediately since running WinSockkxpFix - seems to have left some bugs but system restore wont work either though will try in safe mode Any advice on the above would be great nbsp

I've started using the wireless connection on my Dell Inspiron 640m recently due to faulty LAN.

I noticed that the wireless adapter always disables itself at random. Once it is disabled, I can't enable it back either using Windows or Intel ProSet Wireless software that comes installed with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG wireless adapter.

I've Googled around and found that this is quite a common issue with this wireless adapter even on other brands of laptops.

I've tried updating the driver at Dell website. Dell claims that the update will solve the problem but I'm still getting it.

Appreciate your help if you happen to know the solution. Thanks!

How do you disable the wireless adapter whenever your normal LAN is plugged in and working? I want the wireless to auto connect whenever there is no physical LAN but once the LAN is there, ideally I would like the wireless adapter to stop trying to connect.

Does anyone know how to generally do this? And espeically for the intel wifi link 5100 agn wireless card? Thanks!

Hello everyone I'm having some nasty troubles with Win lately and I thought this forum would driver network Disable Can't / Uninstall be the right place for a resolve After a power cut I can't connect to my router and as a result to the internet anymore It keeps telling me the network is unidentified I downloaded my motherboard's network driver Asus M N -VM installed it then through Upgrade I selected the driver from NVidia as opposed to Microsoft Did not work I then Can't Disable / Uninstall network driver tried to Uninstall network drivers or Disabling them When doing that my PC is in an infinite loop to uninstall the driver or to disable it Also changing IP setting manually and pressing Can't Disable / Uninstall network driver Close in the Local Area Network window sometimes makes my PC go stuck as well often after disabling IPv I do not have the Bonjour service running says the Bonjour removal tool I do have Adobe PS for some time and Adobe Reader It's hopeless I can't think of what is wrong or how to remove the network driver properly I'm up to a point to reinstall the OS but that involves a lot of work so if it can be done without it would be great Thanks in advance Dave

A:Can't Disable / Uninstall network driver

I can uninstall the network driver through Safe Mode. After starting in normal mode it reinstalls the driver, but it hangs again when pressing Close in the Local Area Network window. It also keeps searching in the driver file forder it says (the window when I clicked on the balloon that says it's installing the new driver).

Still no connection though, the yellow exclamation triangle is gone between me and the router, but that could be because it's still Identifying network...

Hi sir,
Tell me the steps to disable the network share in windows xp.Kindly give me the solution for
this problem.

A:How to disable the network share in windows xp?

Turn off Simple Sharing:

XP Home Edition -
1.On the Start menu, click Control Panel, and then click Network Connections.
2.Right-click Local Area Connection.
3.Click Properties.
4.Remove the check from File and Printer Sharing, and then and click OK.
5.If you are asked to restart your computer, click Yes.
For XP Pro and other versions -
1.Click Start, and then click My Computer.
2.On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3.Click the View tab.
4.In the Advanced Settings section, clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box.
5.Click OK.
Even though Simple Sharing is turned off, some files/folders may still be shared under Advanced Options.

To check for these and unshare them -
1.On the Start menu, click Control Panel, and then click Administrative Tools.
(If you do not see Administrative Tools, on the left side of the window, click Switch to Classic View.)
2.Double-click Computer Management.
3.On the left side of the window, under System Tools, double-click Shared Folders.
4.Click the Shares folder to display the list of shared folders.
(By default, IPC$ should be listed in the Shares folder.)
5.For each shared folder, right-click the folder and then click Properties.
6.Click the Share Permissions tab.
7.In the Groups or user names list, select Everyone, and then click Remove.
8.Click Apply and then OK.
9.Repeat steps 5-8 for each shared folder.
10.Close the Computer Management window and the Control Panel window.

Note: Do not change sharing on IPC$.
If you cannot change the fole/folder sharing permissions as above, you may need to go into the properties of each to change it.

Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the shared folder or drive that you want to stop sharing.

If you are logged on to a domain, do the following:

Right-click the shared folder or drive, and then click Sharing and Security.
To stop sharing all instances of the shared resource, click Do not share this folder. To stop sharing only one instance of a folder or drive that is shared multiple times, in Share name click the share that you want to remove, click Remove Share, and then click OK.
If you are not logged on to a domain or if you are running Windows XP Home Edition, do the following:

Right-click the shared folder or drive, and then click Properties.
On the Sharing tab, clear the Share this folder on the network check box.

Hi, In our office we work with two different types of docking stations, one of which is the HP 3001pr Port replicator. These work fine, but when an employee switches between the two different types (either during the day or overnight) sometimes connection problems occur. I suspect this has to do with the network ports installed in the dockingstation. We only use wireless connections at the office, so we do not need active network ports on the docking stations. Is it possible to disable these completely or would we have to disable them manually on every laptop? Best regards

I have windows server 2008 installed on a pc witch i use exclusively to develop a website on localhost and it may be strange but i don't need an internet connection, actually it keeps me working rather then navigating on the internet.

And it kills me a diolog everytime i open firefox asking a connection to the internet. And it keep popping up. I actualy have an internet connection(PPPoE) that is workin but when i'm developing my website i want to disable the internet connection... but i didn't find a way to do that...

Putting firefox offline does not work, i can't navigate not even in localhost. Setting up a fake internet connection is not working either, it shows me a dialog that i have a problem with my network connection.

I know this is a vista forum but from what i know the network connection is the same in windows vista and windows server 2008.

I have spent some time trying to Google this to no avail. I have a laptop with Windows 7 Pro that I use to troubleshoot network connections, routers, etc. Any time I connect a cable, the computer tries to detect whether or not I have internet connection by testing the DNS and seeing if it gets a response. This is great for home users who could use this information in a troubleshooting situation, however, most of the devices I use are in various stages of setup and DO NOT have an active internet connection. This feature takes about 30-60 seconds and is bothersome when I have to reboot the device and wait for windows to make up it's mind before I can access the router configuration again. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn this feature off permanently, or even for the current session?

I do fine until I get to the last step. I can't find the box. Does anyone have an idea on how I can accomplish this?

I procrastinate uncontrollably when there's an internet connection available.
So I figured:

1. Disable built-in network card
2. Buy USB network card
3. Give the network card to a roommate whenever I need to study etc.

For first I need to physically disable my built-in network card in my Lenovo E530. Is it somehow possible? I don't care going to extremes such as hurting it etc.

I have just re-formatted my computer and are having a problem with the firewall in 'panda Platinum Internet security 2004'

I am running 'Windows XP Home', i am having the problem of when both Service pack 2 and 'Panda Platinum Internet security 8 are both installed i cannot access my network or the Internet at all unless i disable the firewall in panda (doesn't make a difference if i disable windows one). The network works fine when it is either just panda or just service pack 2 with the firewalls on, it is just when they are mixed. I have tried various ways of installing them in different orders but does not affect the problem.

Internet explorer knows what the page is it just says at the bottom left corner 'Website found. Waiting for reply...' which seems very strange.

It worked fine before i re-formatted the computer with both panda and service pack 2.

Thanks in advance,

Under advanced sharing options it's "Turn off password Protected Sharing" but whenever I try to access the other win7 pc, it asks for that system's username / password.. why ?

A:Disable Win7 Network Password

There are two passwords. One for homegroup (network password). That lets you log onto the network, you need the users name/pword to get the share.

You can get rid of the network password by using workgroup instead of home group but you are still going to need the UID/pword.

If you really want to be password free you are going to have to take a big hit on security and allow all sharing for all people. Not a good idea.

For starters, I am not on a network and don't know much if anything about them. Is it OK to disable or even uninstall my Network Adapter? (It seems to be the problem that's preventing me from connecting to the web - link down).
My modem works.
Device manager says that my network adapter is working OK.
Diagnostics says it passes all tests exept Link. Link fails.
I've tried plugging the phone line into another com port. No go.
No hardware, software or drivers were installed, uninstalled or changed that I know of the day this problem started. One minute I was surfing the web, next time I logged on, my browser started saying it couldn't connect to anything. Any sage advice? Thanks. V
