I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been trying to use my IPv6 as default over IPv4. After manually entering in the IP address into the adapter under IPv6 protocol, it would connect for 5 minutes before disconnecting itself. I would have to constantly redo just to keep the connection up. How can I use my IPv6 without constantly disconnecting, is there something I'm doing wrong?

Heres my problem, it has persisted for the past 3-4 months or so.

Randomly, but more frequently when i am gaming (WoW, Counter strike, Ventrilo, Warcraft III), my cable completely disconnects my internet and telephone (Optimum online & Voice)

The modem itself stays on but the lights for DS, US, and Online go out for 30 secs to a minute then reconnects and my internet is fine for the next 30 minutes or so until the same thing happens again.

I have switched out modems since it happened, no change.
I have switched out routers (upgraded from a WRT54GS to a WRT310N), no change.

I have seen you guys do some remarkable stuff with Hijackthis and such, if you could help me now with this problem it would relieve a lot of grief.

Thanks for your time

First, try another browser to see if this behavior occurs there. This'll let us know if it's a browser issue or not. Here's a link to a nice free browser (Firefox) that I use: http://www.mozilla.com/

Hi,
I have ATT Uverse Internet, and an att uverse gateway, and on my computer the wireless keeps randomly disconnecting. Over the past few weeks it has started doing this more and more often, for instance today I can't get connection for more than 5 minutes before it disconnects. However, the wireless works on my other computer, Xbox, and iphone, so I'm not sure what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello For the past months or so I ve had trouble with my internet and have tried recently to fix it since it annoys me insanely Here s my setup - Sony Vaio FE laptop with Vista Home Premium -bit service pack - Router is a Verizon FiOS MI WR reconnects disconnects Wireless and constantly internet - A desktop is connected through wire and doesn t Wireless internet disconnects and reconnects constantly experience the problems Wireless internet disconnects and reconnects constantly Here s the problem My wireless internet constantly disconnects and then reconnects right away for seemingly no reason Wireless internet disconnects and reconnects constantly I can t find a pattern sometimes I have no dropouts for hours sometimes it happens every - seconds for a few minutes I have tried the following - Updating drivers for both the router there was none and my wireless network card - Changing router channels to - Changing to static IP and back - Scanning my computer for viruses with Security Essentials and Spybot removing any bad stuff it found - Doing diagnostics through the router doing a ping test to my computer but it just says quot test failed quot and doesn t help me any further None of that helped and the situation remained the same From the tons of stuff I ve read online I know a few things that could be wrong but I m not sure - There s the wireless phones but the dropouts are completely independent from whenever a phone call is being made or received there s no pattern I don t know if that means anything or if it doesn t matter - I am about feet away from the router the signal has to travel from an office through a living room and into another room where my laptop is However the signal strength is described as quot excellent quot full bars - It could also be a problem with my internal network card For the longest time I ve had a problem with my WiFi switch it has become loose and I have to fiddle with it to keep it on since it sometimes moves to the off position But the dropout happens even when I m not touching the computer which could shake it to the off position and when the switch is on I thought about buying an external USB network adapter thing to bypass a possibly broken internal card but I don t know if that would work and if it would end up being a waste of money - Finally my laptop s power connection is semi-broken on the laptop itself It fell about a foot down onto where the power is plugged in which is on the side and whatever holds the cord into the computer became loose resulting in the computer going to battery for a second before coming back to AC power pretty often It usually happens when typing and there s vibration on the computer from it maybe once or twice an hour I read that using the laptop when it s disconnected from power could result in internet fallouts but the power plug has been broken for over a year while the internet problems didn t show up until about months ago So there s my situation Sorry for the long post and thank you if you read it nbsp

A:Wireless internet disconnects and reconnects constantly

when your internet drops out, does the router still have an internet connection, i.e. is the router still getting an IP address from your ISP? since you said that the desktop is hard-wired into the router and doesn't experience this same problem, i'm assuming this is the case. it seems as though the problem lies more in the wireless connection and not the router or your ISP.

you may need to get a wireless expander because that distance seems fairly long.

a new network card or a wireless USB may help matters, but it still seems like a long distance.

Hi, I'm bombed by a harmful virus which always slowing down my internet and lots of disconnections. I also redirected to different harmful web pages (some of them are Russian porn sites and dating sites).

I scanned multiple times with Kaspersky Internet Security tools (pro) and Malwarebytes along with Adware Cleaner. They couldn't detect any infections.

Because of this virus I can't use my internet properly. Every other computer and phone at my home can connect to internet with high speed and not a single problem ever.
Here's the link I get redirected to: Meet local singles!

Please help me get rid of this virus, I'm desperate with only one choice of resetting my computer if it doesn't stop..

I've never had this issue before with my Linksys Wireless-G PCI adapter model WMP54G. Its not much of a big problem but it is annoying! Connection is great at Excellent but sometimes it just disconnects and then automatically re-connects. It doesn't matter if I'm in the middle of loading a webpage or using the connection in any way either. I've checked for radio frequency interference and there is none in its area. The router is an Actiontec. Also whats frustrating is the connection speed even with an Excellent connection. It tops out at 54Mbps but sometimes drops to 12Mbps or 18Mbps even when there isn't heavy connection activity and the connection runs very slow. Google and web searches have not been successful. Any ideas?

A:[SOLVED] Wireless Adapter constantly disconnects.

How far away is the access point? What happens if you move directly in front of it? Do the problems still occur?
Are there any walls / Metal objects / fridges (large electrical components etc) between you and the access point?
You can try to swivel the Access Point aerial so it is horizontal instead of vertical or vertical instead of horizontal.

I have the almost the same problem as you. I as well use Comcast high speed internet and play online games. For the past month or so Ive been getting disconnected for just long enough to boot me from my game and and ventrilo, then the connection goes right back on. Most of the time I just get disconnected and a look down at my modem and all the lights are still locked. But other times I'll look down at the modem and see that its restarting its self. Very strange I think... I have no idea what to do.

Right, so before this DSL was rarely stable, it was incredibly slow. I solved the problem by directly connecting the modem (a Westell 6100) to the phone jack, as from what I've seen, the three way splitter that was used killed the connection speed. Now the results from doing this was the internet speed being increased sevenfold. The connection I have is from Verizon, not really too sure on the connection, but if it helps, the top speed I have now is about 70 kb/s. I've taken the line quality test from DSLReports, but from what it says, everything is apparently good. Another thing I've noticed too is that the Internet and Ethernet lights on both the router (A Linksys WRT300N) and the modem are constantly flashing. If anyone could help me with this, I'd be grateful, and the link to the test is here. http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2537166

I've had Verizon DSL for a while now, and I'll be honest, its the worst service we have ever gotten.
It goes down consistently, and by the time i call Verizon Tech Support, internet seems to stabilize and they say there is nothing wrong with my internet.
I did a line test at dslreports and got the following result.
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2552521

Looks just fine, but what explains the constant disconnections?
Oh, their 24/7 Tech Support lines seemed to have been closed for a long time now as well. Also, when i try calling corporate, they put my on hold then hang up.

Sooo, what do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.

I have a new laptop with a built in 802.11G adapter. It connects to my router, but then disconnects periodically, sometimes it reconnects right away, other times I have to turn the wireless adapter off and back on before it reconnects. Any advice would be helpful. Is it possible it has something to do with SP2 as this is the first time I've ever used it and this is the first time I'm having problems.

A:Wireless disconnects constantly.

SP2 and the wireless adapters built in connection utility on alot of models do not play nice so usually you have to pick one or the other to use. As well you will probably want to check the channel your on as something else may be causing interferance. Have you tried your laptop in other wirelesas areas? You may want to do that to have piece of mind that your card and configuration of your laptop is working properly.

Hi all, I recently bought my first laptop (HP Streambook) and it's fine except for it constantly disconnecting from my wifi?
It only does this in my room (note that every other device I own can still pick up and keep a consistent connection in here), and when it picks up the connection, it only has 2-3 bars. It'll then go to 5 bars for about 30 secs, then disconnect completely. When I attempt to reconnect it may not work at all, or appear there with 2-3 bars again. I have reset the network card more times than I care to mention and any amount of troubleshooting won't help. I'm at my wit's end, any ideas?

A:WiFi constantly disconnects?

Welcome to the forum!

Honestly, not the top of the line when it comes to notebooks/laptops. Can't rule out that it simply has a weak wifi adapter and antenna. What adapter does it have? May need to update the drivers. How far are you from the router and are there walls in between?

Also be sure the adapter is not allowed to sleep and power saving mode is not enabled.

When on Windows 7 (release 7100, 64 bit), the wireless internet disconnects after/during downloading a file, game downloads updates, or even when playing an online game. The internet still appears to be connected to my network however a message mentions "limited access". If I disconnect from the network, I am unable to reconnect to the network (error comes up).

This issue does not occur when using Ubuntu (dual boot) or on other computers connected to the internet (using Win XP/Vista). And does not occur when directly connected to the internet.

I also have noticed somewhat of an issue that may be relating to this problem. My network adapter is Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card F5D7000. However, Windows 7 recognizes the network card as "Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card"

Thanks for any help~

A:Wireless Constantly Disconnects

I've got the same exact problem. I have a Rosewill RNX-N2X wireless adapter. My computer does the same thing - the wireless connection comes up with limited access and it won't connect again.

Along with this though, when this happens, my CPU starts getting eaten up to almost 90% usage by something. When I try to shut down, it just locks at the shutting down screen, and I have to hold in the button.

The connection works most of the time when just surfing the web, but when making my account for this site it decided to disconnect. I've tried changing the wireless security, channel, drivers, etc... When I try a wired connection, the connection stays fine under heavy load, so it must be something with wireless drivers or something..Please help!

Edit: Also, my router is a D-Link DIR-655, but I don't think it's the problem. A Windows 7 laptop does not have any problems with this using the same router.

Edit 2: Nevermind, wireless disconnects even when surfing web after about 3-4 minutes, but downloads stop it instantly.

Hi,

I have a network with up to a dozen computers at any one time.
All have static ips
Most are wired.

The prob is between 2 wireless computers.
If I run both comps with windows xp, all is fine.
But 1 of the pcs is often booted from a live (Puppy) Linux cd.
When I boot using Linux, both of these pcs start dis/reconnecting to the network, every few minutes.
The nics both have different macs, & they are both assigned their own static ips correctly.
Another wireless pc on the network is not affected.

Any ideas why the disconnects & how to solve this prob?

PS. I am using a Netgear 824 router.

Thanks for any replies

Rob

So I recently bought a Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter. Once I got it I hooked it up to my 750gb Seagate Barracuda hard drive; it let me view the files, but after I wanted to access my user folder, it said something about not having permission and closed unexpectedly. After that happened, I shut it off. Now when I plug it into any one of my computers, it repeatedly connects and then disconnects within 30 seconds. What should I do?

A:SATA HDD to USB Constantly Disconnects and Reconnects

Try a different cable. Try the Seagate in a computer. Try a different drive in the Vantec.

Hey guys,

We have Comcast cable internet in my area. The main Comcast hub is across the street from us, and they originally ran a wire under the street so that our side of the road can get connection.

A neighbor just built a house next to us, and I heard that the Comcast installers split the line coming to our house so that they can get cable tv/internet.

I have a couple questions *second one is most important*.
1. Will this slow down my internet?
2. How does Comcast distinguish two separate connections (bills) that are on the same cable line (the one they split)?

A:Solved: Question about Comcast cable internet infrastructure.

It's not a factor, that's the way cable Internet works. Each cable from the gateway box can support multiple Internet connections. Most of the TV bandwidth is simply broadcast, so it's just always there and you select what you want.

We have a problem with the connection to our server. The server disconnects randomly from minutes to hours all day. I am at a remote location and connect via logmein to a local pc at the servers physical location to remotely control and connect to the server. A month or so ago the connection would drop every few minutes. The staff at that location replaced the switch and had the ISP tech check out the router. No problems were found. I think it is a problem with the server itself but don't know what it could be. Typically I can go through the login process and reconnect. I'm sorry I can't be more specific about the equipment since it is 40 miles away. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Remotely?
Clearly I'm not a network guy.
Thanks for any help or direction

A:Network connection to server disconnects constantly

The usual suspects are:

(for DSL connections only) missing or faulty line filters
need to update the router/modem firmware at your end
packet reassembly overflow(a)
(a) very techie, but the solution is easy; see this description

I have had a problem for the past couple days. I have looked over many places on the internet and have not found a solution.

The problem is my computer ASUS ul 30-a up until a few days ago was running fine on wireless until a couple of days ago when the wireless constantly was cutting out every minute or so and reconecting 10-15 seconds later. I have reformatted my computer and installed multiple new driver from the Asus website. When wired into the router the internet works perfectly. But wireless even directly next to it does not work. Their are 2 other laptops in the house neither which have had any problem dropping connections. Another thing I fine odd is that my computer is perfectly fine on my wireless at school. I have tried resetting the router and multiple router setting but still nothing. Renew release Ip, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As the topic title says, my Linksys 10/100 LNE100TX LAN (On this machine) Constantly connects and disconnects about every 5-10 seconds. My other machines on my network are fine.

I've tried moving the card into different PCI slots;
Changing the RJ45;
Installing drivers on the CD provided;
Installing drivers from the internet;
Uninstalling the card completely and installing as above;

Any ideas?
Any other specs you may require, just ask and i'll post them.

Windows XP (No service Packs as i just formatted. It had the same problems with SP1 and SP2 installed too)

Many thanks.

Ever since I downloaded updates for windows XP, I keep getting disconnected from the internet. I did not have this problem until after these updates. Everytime I get connected it only lasts a few minutes and kicks me off. I am typing this message offline and will paste it in. I don't know if I can stay online long enough to type everything. I used to have service pack 1 and now the updated version is service pack 2. Could that have anything to do with the problem. I would appreciate your help.

A:Solved: Internet Connection Frequently Disconnects

1. Personally I wouldn't operate any electronic device, certainly not a new one, without the proper power supply. Surely there is a long enough warranty to get that power supply replaced.

2. Try just using standard 802.11g until you get the problems ironed out. Then you can introduce MIMO and see if it improves or hurts.

3. If the AM200 modem/router is operating as a modem and router then the Belkin should be connecting with a dynamic connection. If the AM200 is bridged or whatever the term is to say that it is acting as a modem only then the Belkin router's connection must be whatever your ISP requires.

4. Don't know.

5. No difference, except that dynamic (automatic) are far more convenient.

Beyond the first 3 items you've identified (which you should take care of first), sometimes a router firmware upgrade and then reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure will help disconnect problems.

I have a server 2003 r2 machine connected on a LAN.

the server is used for data storage and the local workstations use the data on mapped drives.

When the server is connected to the internet ... all of the workstations on the lan partially lose the internet.

When i ping google while the server is connected to the internet I get 50% to 75% loss.

When I disable the LAN adapter on sevrer- alll the workstations on lan have 0% loss.
When I enable lan adapter on server and configure tcpip and for primary dns i enter 1.1.1.1
I still get 0% loss

when I enter 8.8.8.8 for primary dns the problem persists/

It kind of sounds like a virus on server causing very heavy traffic?
trojan virus?

if so which software can I use to remove the virus.

Im using symantec AV on the server.

Hello everyone Hopefully I'm posting in the right forum So I've come here because I've done hours of googling about my issue with no help I'm having a problem with my current window tab quot unclicking quot itself every minutes or so It's a common issue but sometimes requires multiple fixes I notice it the most in games Internet Windows and [SOLVED] Disconnects Minimizing Keep I'm a gamer when playing DoTA or Battlefield the game will minimize all of a sudden and I'll have to click on it to get back in It's even happening as I'm typing this message I have to [SOLVED] Windows Keep Minimizing and Internet Disconnects put the cursor back to where I was typing before to keep typing As it's going on sometimes the internet completely disconnects as well and I have to retype my password to gain access to wifi The internet has disconnected times while writing this message and I swear it's worse when I'm typing using an internet browser It happens so infrequently I'm not quite sure what it is Sometimes it goes on for hours and sometimes it's not a problem at all My suspicion is it has something to do with the USB hubs Btw this has never been an issue in the past with my current setup but I've only noticed this after I recently bought a JSCO Gaming Silent Mouse and a new Razer DeathAdder mouse I like to have both plugged in at the same time so I can change from one to the other if I need to my PC is in my bedroom where my wife sleeps so this works best I also just recently bought a new wireless adapter TP-LINK TL-WN N Because I bought the two so close to each other I can't discern whether it's one or the other causing the problem I'm assuming it has something to do with mice plugged in at once Anyway any recommendations are appreciated I already disabled power management options in Device Manager disabled Window quot peeking quot in Ease of Access uninstalled AVG and other solutions based on what I've from other people having the same issue I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Generic USB Hub drivers but the problem comes back I'd like to keep my current setup with both of the mice plugged in if possible And again I've never had this issue before Thanks in advance for any help

A:[SOLVED] Windows Keep Minimizing and Internet Disconnects

Welcome to TSF, RoffleMyWaffles.

This is indeed an odd one.

There is no mention whether or not the issue persists if you operate the system with only one of the mice in place (either one, from boot). Is that the case?

Hello,
I have had wireless network problems for a long time. I bought a new router and I bought a new adapter, it just seems these problems never stop.
Recently (after 3 months or so of working fine) my wireless internet computer (which is a windows XP and is wireless with a Linksys WRT54GS v7 router and a realtek gateway adapter) keeps reconnecting/disconnecting. So I moved my tower over to the left about 3 feet. My internet works fine for a couple of hours. It then starts to disconnect/reconnect again, so I move it a couple more feet towards the left (which is where the exit of the room is, now my tower is halfway outside my door in order to get a good signal!).
Anyone know the problem?
Ideas?

I have similiar problem, that just started few days ago, when I installed norton 360 and logmein software.
After that day, I havent been able to play War of the Roses Beta game nor Age of Conan game, without internet stopping to work. League of Legends does not trigger this problem for some reason.

When problem occurs
I get no connection to internet, although network says it has internet connection.
I can connect to internet again after few minutes (5-15) and all is fine, until I play online games again.
My friend says he hears me a little while (through xfire) after I get disconnected from the game, I dont hear him though.

I was thinking of making new thread, but I feel the problem might be connected or something. Atleast the problem sounds much like mine.

I recently moved and signed up for comcast. I have my own cable modem that I purchased yesterday bc their pos one didnt work. Yes, I called and gave them the s/n and mac address of the new modem. I am connected directly to the modem with one 5 foot ethernet cord.

I have 3 laptops. 2 are HP's, 1 a Toshiba. The HP's are from 2004-2006 and Xp SP3. The Toshiba has Win 7.

The HP from 2004 is the only one that gets internet access. The other XP comp. gets "Limited or No Connectivity" The Win 7 Machine gets "Unidentified Network, No Internet Access"

I've been on three phone calls with Comcast. Sick of them. I've gone through countless IP renewals and clearing and resetting tcp/ip data in the cmd prompt. Even tried deleting some windows updates, rolling back the network card driver to no avail.

Any suggestions?

I don't understand this at all... I just moved to Michigan, about 12 miles north of Port Huron. I can get Comcast cable TV at my new house, but for some strange reason I cannot get Comcast internet. In fact, the only internet available here is dialup or satellite.

Why can I get cable TV but not internet?

Is Comcast still bringing new internet service into areas in Michigan, or is that it?

If they are, how long would it take, considering cable TV is already there?

I asked Comcast, and got the generic "we don't service your area and we have no idea when we will, if ever."

Thank you for your help.

A:I get Comcast cable, but NOT Internet???

That's not at all uncommon, the two services are different. Where I live, I had Comcast TV when we built the house, over 18 years ago. It wasn't until about 5 years ago we finally could get Comcast broadband. They won't tell you anything, been there, done that.

I now have Verizon FiOS service, very fast.

Ok this is my story I have comcast cable internet and was using a microsoft router sending a signal to my laptop A few weeks ago my internet was down and called Comcast internet and and the routers them and they said it was on there end and some one would have to come out and fix this They did not show up and i called them again and with my router unhooked and the Comcast and routers and the internet computer hard wired to my modem they found out that my network card was disabled so there tech told me to reenable it and i did that and my internet was working again But as soon as i hooked my router and so on back up it now my internet wont work again so if i go hard wire its working good and as soon as i send my modem into my router then i get nothing I know my router is good as i have two of them and tryed them both and same thing So I think that they blocked my ip address or some thing so i can not share my connection I know that you have to pay an extra dollars per computer thats using there internet I have looked at all my settings and the only thing thats different is my subnet mask is different hard wired its wireless its I dont know if this could be the trouble or not since i am not to to good with networks any thoughts nbsp

A:Comcast and routers and the internet

Did you configure your router the same as your computer? If your computer is set to retrieve the IP configuratin automatically (when hardwired), then that's how your router's WAN interface should be set.

Also, Comcast may allow only a certain network interface connected to the modem (your computer's) and you would have to set up MAC address spoofing on the router to make it look like your PC.

CONSTANT GUARD REPORTS

1 Bot Detected

A:Comcast Bots and users have only Comcast in common???

I will assume you checked using Am I Botted? which gave you the names of the detected bots. Then again, there may be NO bot.Did you receive an email from Comcast about this?Unless they changed the wording of the notice, it says Constant Guard from XFINITY identified that one or more of your computers may be infected with a bot. That does not necessarily mean there is one.Do you have a network set up? If so, it could be on any of the computers that connect to your network. Then again, as stated above, there may be no bot on any of them. No, they will not be able to tell you which computer "MAY" have a bot.And in the Comcast help forum, where there are NUMEROUS posts about this you could be told by an employee (if one happens to stumble upon your post) that they observed signs of likely malware infection. If questioned they will then say you "likely" have a bot.The notice is tied to your MODEM which is why if there is a network you don't know which computer MAY have a bot. From cc_adame Comcast National Engineering in the Comcast help forum The notice is tied to your modemhttp://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/constant-guard-alert-bot/m-p/1466883/highlight/true#M89772Something using your cable modem is exhibiting the behaviour of a bot.http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/constant-guard-alert-bot/m-p/1466891/highlight/true#M89773we're only alerting you because we are seeing activity from *something* behind your modem that is bot traffic. We can't tell you which device it is because that would require us to do Deep Packet Inspection, which nobody wants - we care about your privacy, and will not do that.I recommend you contact CSA, who can further assist you with figuring out which device behind your modem is infected and can remove the notice.Normal business hours (6:00 am to 2:00 am EST, 7 days a week) 888-565-4329http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/constant-guard-alert-bot/m-p/1467167/highlight/true#M89784First aid following a botnet notice is to run a full scan with your AV software. If that comes up clean, try the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.Wait 24 hours and then check Am I Botted? again. (if you get curious you can check before then)At this point in time don't panic and don't worry about it to much. If Am I Botted does keeps saying you are THEN you can do whatever it takes to determine whether it's fact or fiction. The malware removal folks here at Bleeping Computer will be glad to help you. 1) going to the amibotted does not rescan it just reports that they saw activity in the last 24-26 hours.2) Comcast clears the you are botted message after a few hours so it you wait 27-30 hours the website will say you do not have a bot until the magical bot activity is seen again.http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/constant-guard-alert-bot/m-p/1559963/highlight/true#M91304They used to have a so-called self-help guide. This was totally useless and did not do anything to help you determine IF there was a bot and on which computer. The procedures did not show any infections/malware. It wanted you to download and install the Constant Guard Protection Suite, which includes Norton Security.I got one of those you may be botted emails in February of 2013. I did scan 2 of the 4 computers on my network and scans came up clean. After that I decided to wait the 24 hours and check again. When I did Am I Botted said all clear. You can download and installTrend Micro RUBotted. This is a beta but works just fine.If you want to try it http://free.antivirus.com/us/rubotted/index.htmlWhile this is an older topic it still contains good advice http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/What-do-I-do-if-I-receive-a-BOT-notification/m-p/1082387/thread-id/83716/message-uid/1082387Bottom line is to run those scans. Even though it may turn out to be nothing, there could also be some truth to it.

Comcast has told us that we have to have the modem hooked up to the desktop for the internet to work.

My question is this - what do people do who have only a laptop and have wireless internet in their house?

Is there anyway to get rid of the desktop and have the modem hooked directly to the cable and router?

A:Switched From At&T DSL to Comcast Cable Internet

can we have the exact model of the linksys router - do you have a separate modem, if so make and exact model

have you carried out a full powercycle as detailed below

I have you made a note of all the router/modem settings and carried out a factory reset on the modem/router ?

As other devices connect to the wireless OK
try removing profiles from your PC and reconnecting
------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to power cycle

“power cycle” process to reboot or reset the modem/router

Switch off all the devices modem, router and computers also unplug their power cables.
Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power cords back in, but don’t switch them on.
First turn on the modem and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Next switch on the router (if a seperate device ) and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Now turn on your computer, You should now be able to access the Internet.

This is a common handshake problem between certain types of network interface devices and Comcast's second rate hardware.

This issue has come up many many times with the only resolution being to dump the Comcast modem/router and purchase a dedicated modem and a third party router.

This is why your particular machine only seems to be reliable when it's connected to other sources.

I just installed a new motherboard on my pc and changed the case, and noticed my downloads go at like 30kb/s.. they used to be like 2gb/s its been a month now with this problem and I have not been able to solve it, did everything that was obvious then searched some stuff on internet, this is my last resort. thanks

A:Comcast Internet speed slow

You likely need to reinstall your wireless or wired modem... They may not be recognized by the system in the same way they were with the old board. Security from your provider often will shut down when it detects changes to hardware other than memory as a prevention against "theft" of their product...
you can find the setup info at the manufacturer's web site for the cable modem, and with a phone call to your connection provider... but watch out for service charges if they have to visit your home.

Recently I have been having issues connecting to the internet. My cable light on my modem is not lit or it flashes. I have been monitoring this issue for the last week. I have observed that I have no connection between the hours of 6pm-10pm, the times when I need and use the internet the most. However, in the morning I have connection. It doesn't make sense to me. Any ideas as to what might be happening?

A:Comcast Cable Internet Connection

Yep, Comcast is having a problem with their network. Yours is the classic case of overloading, since that time you mention is their peak usage time. This is a Comcast issue, plain as that.

I had Comcast internet installed on my 4-yr old Gateway computer and now my computer won't shut down.  Comcast said it's a computer issue and not theirs.  The only way it shuts down is if I put it on Log Off and sometime during the night is shuts down.  The next day, I get a message that my computer was not shut down correctly.Carol Kulik

A:I had Comcast internet installed, now my computer ...

Navigate to the folder:  C:\Program Files\comcasttb (C:\Program Files (x86) on 64 bit systems). Click on comcasttb and you'll see a new folder "comcast antispy" open that contains an uninstall file. Run the uninstall program.  Reboot your system and double check the process is no longer running (Task Manager).  You'll then need to manually remove the folder called "comcasttb".  If the comcasttb folder is not located in the Program Files folder, you will need to search your hard drive for it.

Will i lose my current and old AT&T emails in Windows Live Mail when i switch from AT&T internet to Comcast internet? I understand i can no longer use the ATT email address, but will I LOSE all my emails in my inbox, sent box, draft box etc........? Shuttlecloud was "fairly" sure I would not lose the info and Comcast did not know. I want to keep my current/past emails that i received with ATT. I want my same folder and such to STAY on my WLM so i can access past emails. I understand that the emails will stay on my hard drive--just want to be positive that they will still appear on WLM page so i can access them, ALONG with my new Comcast emails. Please advise. Thank you.

A:WLM-Emails switching from AT&T to Comcast internet

No. you will not lose any eMail by switching providers.

You will have a new folder structure for Comcast, but you can still see and access the old AT&T folder structure.

See: Live Mail: Compact and quick (views) for some tips on managing msgs in WLM.

I've been Lagging, With Comcast Internet Dcs Cable Freezing, having a problem with my cable internet from comcast for months probably over a year and nobody there seems to be able or want to help and I am completely desperate to get any help I can My Freezing, Lagging, Dcs With Comcast Cable Internet connection gets great speed but between around - until sometime the next morning my connection locks up freezes slows drops every couple of minutes Sometimes the lock ups last as little as seconds sometimes as much as a minute My internet goes out completely once or twice a day causing me to reset the modem and router The problem is on all computers not just one My Xbox included I've tried bypassing the router a bunch of times and the problem persists without it I've had techs out and talked to CSRs a bunch during all this nobody ever helps When the CSRs reset my modem things work good for a little bit then it starts up again If all I did was surf the internet and check email the problems wouldn't be that bad Sometimes it locks up while checking email or changing pages and I just have to wait for the freeze to end then try again But I like to play games online and that causes a huge headache My character is constantly just standing there frozen unable Freezing, Lagging, Dcs With Comcast Cable Internet to move until the internet kicks back in The same thing happens to my mother when she tries to play her silly little poker app on myspace It's just a little java or shockwave game and the internet is causing it to freeze up as well The problem is even worse with my Xbox as the freezes don't just cause a hiccup they completely DC me from the service everytime I can sit here and try to play Call of Duty for or hours and NEVER finish a game Games only last minutes or less so that shows how frequently Freezing, Lagging, Dcs With Comcast Cable Internet the freezes are happening The biggest problem I have is that these issues are at night So Comcast basically tells me they can't help They don't have any techs that can come out at that time so I'm on my own Only ONCE was somebody here during the issues and he said he was seeing bit rate errors But since the problems are mainly at night nobody else has ever seen those During all these problems my modem never seems to go quot off quot All lights stay on as normal And when I call the tech line and they check my modem they ALWAYS say my modem looks good even when it's going haywire on my end Even when my internet goes completely out and I have to do the old unplug for seconds to reset it the modem still LOOKS normal No lights go out or anything even though I'm not getting a connection So I'm posting in total desperation I don't know what else to do I'd love to hear any ides anybody has

A:Freezing, Lagging, Dcs With Comcast Cable Internet

Lethargic, Since this an ISP issue, I am directing you to the Comcast help forums. Those forums are provided to Comcast customers, and are a great resource for vendor specific issues. There are forums for computer issues, email issues, security, internet, cable tv, and CDV. Many times we, the users there, can provide answers tech support and customer service can't. It's mainly a user-to-user forum, but lately Comcast has added more employees as moderators who can also help with issues. Click the link below, you'll be sent to the sign in page. Log in with your Comcast user ID (the part before .net) and your password. You will next see a first time forum users page, asking you to choose a screen name for use in the forums. Once you set that up, you'll be taken to the actual forums. http://forums.comcast.net/comcastsupport/Post your issue in the CONNECTION forum. (Once you get to the forum, save the page to your favorites. If you want to get to it from the Comcast home page, you have to jump through hoops to reach it)

A:My Internet Crawls, And I Am Have Comcast High Speed

Hello chaldo and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.Internet speeds are dependent on many things. What is the ISP's rated speed? What is the modem's rated speed? What is the router's rated speed? Having a fast modem and fast router do not guarantee that they will work together at full speed. Try taking the router out of the connection and hooking the computer directly to the modem. If there is a measurable speed increase then the router is a bottleneck in the connection. If not, then either the modem or the line can be causing slower performance than what the ISP is stating as the speed. Something else to consider with cable is that the line is shared with all other users on that physical cable. If many people are hooked up on that cable segment and all of them are online at the same time then all users will have a performance hit. It's just the nature of cable. There is a bit of housekeeing that can be done so let's do that while you are here.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {56F1D444-11BF-4879-A12B-79CF0177F038} - (no file)O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)O16 - DPF: {A7EA8AD2-287F-11D3-B120-006008C39542} (CBSTIEPrint Class) - http://offers.e-centives.com/cif/download/bin/actxcab.cabNow close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For networking related issues I would suggest posting to the Networking forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to networking issues. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

Hello, can anyone help me? I have IE 8 and anytime I try to go to comcast.net, it will not stay on the page and defaults to some kind of Dell search page. Any ideas how to open comcast.net in Internet Explorer and make it stay there? Thanks!

A:Cannot keep Comcast.net homepage open on Internet Explorer 8

To be clear about this, Comcast page opens up, then it goes to another page?
It is set as your homepage? I searched the Comcast help forums, and couldn't find anything there concerning your issue.
This is the first time I've ever seen it.

Did this start AFTER you installed IE8?
If it did, uninstall it, and see if your problem is solved. It's worth a try.

There is also the possibility that your system could be infected.
I'm not malware removal expert-but I can put out a call to those who are.
If they think it is malware, one of them will guide you through the clean-up process.

The IP for Comcast is 76.96.54.12.

Copy the numbers, then paste them in your address bar.
Does that get you to the Comcast home page and have it stay there?

Comcast High Speed Internet - Spam

Just a quick note on a new spam run that's going on. It's from the same group that used Bank Of America as the lure late last week and Northern Bank on Monday.

Today it's Comcast and it might actually have a higher success rate then the previous run as users always want faster broadband, especially if there's no fee involved. And the page looks really convincing.

Once installed the malware does the same as in the other spam runs - steals data and sends it to Hong Kong.

Having multiple problems with signing in to Windows Internet Explore 7 but listed as www6.comcast.net. McAfee stops my signing in by doing the virus scan and find long delays waiting for McAfee Virus scan to complete. Comcast tells me that it is a problem with Windows Internet Explorer, windows internet explorer tells me that it is Comcast. All in all it is very hard for me to sign in with all the crap being surveryed and keeps me from my wanted tasks. Wher and whom to I shout at???????

A:Problems with Windows Internet Explorer provided by Comcast

Hello, you are not the only one with this problem. If you do an internet search for the www6.comcast address you will find a deal of related material. A few quick links for you are here:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...9113633AA1QyQx

Many of the fixes suggest things like resetting your router, updating your browser, using a different comcast link, tooling with your firewall/s, or checking DNS settings. As this seems like a new problem with a wide set of variables, maybe some of this info could help you pinpoint the specifics causing your issue. If you use the comcast site for things like news, info, or email then you could try some of those fixes. If you don't need the comcast site, you could always just uninstall their software, and then change your hompage.

Hello all I have a Compaq Presario laptop with wireless internet functionality and connect to the cable modem Cable Internet Help! periods, fine has slow is Comcast says everything via a Help! Cable Internet has slow periods, Comcast says everything is fine wireless router For the several months I ve had the internet through Comcast everything seemed to be fine Very high speeds constant high-speed connectivity and reliability These last few days however have been anything but pleasant I noticed the internet signal is still high-speed but often becomes very very sluggish and lethargic at times For example I can go through a period of web surfing where I have maybe minutes of constant high-speed connectivity Help! Cable Internet has slow periods, Comcast says everything is fine but then everything will suddenly s - l - o - w - - d - o - w - n for periods of to minutes Then suddenly everything will be high speed again and pages will load rapidly for maybe minutes Then again minutes of pure sluggish frustration where simple HTML files with few graphics will take upwards of seconds to load Then minutes of high speed then minutes of slow Sometimes the internet connection is lost altogether i e Page Cannot be Displayed This problem had become very apparent while I view streaming media at first everything was nice and smooth then it all started sputtering going in and out pausing then it would pick up again then everthing would freeze up Internet connection lost While I treasure the periods of truly reliable high-speed service I have the periods of downtime are becoming more and more common One interesting note is that I live with a roommate who doesn t report any internet problems at all A call to Comcast was of very little help they checked the modem and said quot you have a constant connection of high speed unbelievably fast quot They recommended it was either my computer or wireless router so I began to troubleshoot them I cleared my entire computer of spyware using Lavasoft s Adaware I have Norton Antivirus loaded with latest virus definitions Did a full system scan found nothing No viruses no spyware and I even cleared up some space on my C drive and defragged Even after all of this my web browsers will take to seconds to load simple pages the progress bar will just quot hang quot for what seems forever Of course the pictures will never load and sometimes the connection times out Page cannot be found I connected a cable directly from the modem to my laptop bypassing the wireless router Still the same problems persist Can anyone begin to point me in the right direction What is going on here Comcast says everything is fine my roommate is reporting no problems and my computer has been completely cleared of spyware and checked for viruses And if my computer was the problem then why would I have periods of blazing fast internet between the sluggish periods Please help Keep in mind I have a somewhat limited understanding of networking Thanks nbsp

My brother for my birthday in July is getting me Comcast High Speed Internet for six months! (It's on sale for $19.99/mo. right now...after the six months...bye bye to it! ) My question...do I need to worry about any concerns with it and Vista? Or doesn't it matter? Also...I have to finish the installation when it is done starting with the CD...is it fairly easy to do? (I have to have a cable and modem installed by the serviceman of course!)

With other browsers will work OK but IE not.

Anyone knows why?

A:Internet Exlorer will not open Comcast mail or my AT&T account

I recently discovered my wife's laptop couldn't play Utube videos any more in IE (not the usual & common problem, this was something that kept blocking it). I checked the IE version and saw that it was only IE7 so I updated it. Problem solved.

So you might want to try updating it if it's not already the current version (IE9).

A:Comcast Internet Works UNTIL I plug in my BELKIN Wireless Router. HELP!

I have also reset the Belkin router and refreshed both my modem and the router by unplugging them and keeping them unplugged. I have a feeling all of those 0's in my physical address is the problem. Oh and I know longer have my belkin software c.d. I'm pretty computer literate so please give me a solution!

hi Boltonsquad I have a similar sounding problem.
My connection to the network is reported as excellent but randomly the actual download speed drops away to nothing.
Does yours "mend " itself after a short while and start working again...or is yours off for good. I find rebooting the laptop resolves it faster than waiting for it to do it itself...until it does it again(not good).
I use a belkin router (number can be supplied when I get home if needed) ..maybe thats the common?

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi All
I have been having internet disconnects every since I have had VISTA. It is the same that used to occur in WIN ME & 98. It happens when you spend a long time surfing on one web site. There was a fix for this problem then and I have forgotten it. It is not my server as I have another computer with WIN 98SE and it does not happen. I have to cycle my DSL modem off & on to reconnect. I am connected through a router to a second computer and to the modem and the second computer stays connected. The internet icon (lower right display) will indicate local only is connected.
Any help would be great. Forum

If you're using a laptop or server, the network card may be configured to go into power saving mode releasing the IP address after a set amount of time of non-activity.

Which version of Windows Vista are you using? Vista is known to have plenty of networking issues on it's own so it may be worth searching Microsoft's KB (Knowledge Base) at www.microsoft.com if you're familiar with it.

Also your computer system mentions a Dell E-520 which appears to be a standard desktop PC, would you be able to confirm this?

Finally, if you could post the results of an "ipconfig /all" while the network is connected and then when it becomes unavailable, this would help troubleshoot the problem.

Roden

I have a Compaq Presario-AMD Athlon 64-3500+-512mb-200gb. Running windows xp sp3, updated and malware clean. I am stuck with dialup connection until [email protected] upgrades our area. I sometimes leave my pc running a download all night. I usually use orbit downloader but some downloads work better with no manager. Since I reinstalled windows my connection gets disconnected at at different times and redials the connection, but only at night when I leave it downloading a large file. In internet connection I have checked "never dial a connection". It is just an annoyance but I would like to fix it. Any help will be appreciated. I forgot to say that I use IE7 and have tried connection keeper ( with same results). Tried firefox several times but it was slower than IE on my pc. Thanks again. Lots of good advice on this site.
