Wireless Card not Detected in Laptop

Q: Wireless Card not Detected in Laptop

It is a Medion laptop about 4 years old with XP Home SP2

Can't connect via Wireless, even though the drivers are installed for the card in Device Manager and the icon says "One or more Wireless networks are detected - click this ballon to connect"

Windows is being used as the Wireless Utility and no wireless networks are listed, even though other laptops can detect them

Ipconfig says Media Disconnected about the Wireless Card in command prompt

The wireless light is switched on by pressing Fn and F1

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HelloThe app might say the true - wwan card isn't installed.Open Device Manager, Network adapters section. Is there device, broadband adapter related? If your laptop is produced for North America or Europe, most likely adapter is Gobi 2000. Or there might be unknown devices, or with errors.FYI, Mobile Broadband app is useless in European networks, France including.

Hi, I'm new to the forums, so please forgive any errors on my part. I recently acquired a TOSHIBA T130D-001 Satellite Laptop (Its one of those small ones; doesnt even have a DVD drive). It worked fine for school purposes, but about a week ago, my wireless just stopped working. When I checked the device manager, it no longer showed up. So I'm wondering now, if there's anything I can do and does anyone have any instructions on how to open up this particular model? Thanks. I've provided a link to the specs, thank you.

Hey guys.

I'm having a weird problem. I own a HP HDX-18 Notebook, and installed a 64-bit version of Windows 7. Okay, great, it's all going well and I install all the drivers, but there's a problem with the wireless. The wireless card is detected, and the device is working fine (according to good ol' Device Manager), however, the card registers as being disabled. I've ensured the wireless is actually turned on, however when I trouble shoot the problem, it says 'Problems found: wireless capability is turned off - a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken'. the trouble shooter says the problem can be rectified by enabling the wireless through bios, via. the system configuration utility. However, my bios doesn't have such an option...

can the problem be rectified?

For the record - I have tried reinstalling the drivers, no luck. The internet works however through the LAN port, however.

My Broadcom Bluetooth and Wireless Combo Card is not being detected. On device manager> Network adapters I cannot see my the wireless adapter. Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller is in the device manager though. Also I can access internet with an ethernt cable and my phone and other computer can detect my wireless router. The wireless light is also continually orange and will not change.
So neither bluetooth or wireless is working. I have down loaded the 2 Broadcom drivers from the HP website but neither fix the problem. However the bluetooth driver says something like 'Driver failed to install because no bluetooth device was found'.

Please help!

anything in the bios to turn them on / off

HP often have a switch to turn the wireless off - this also turns the bluetooth off - it may be off and actually remove the adapter from the device manager

I know on Sony if you turn the bluetooth off - via the wireless switch it removes bluetooth from device manager

FWIW I have used dlink wireless cards and I have always been pleased with their performance. I would really think about returning the card and going with a dlink card.

i have done lots to try and find it and try and connect to the wireless in some way. the wireless adapter switch is still working for bluetooth wireless access but not internet.

i wonder if somehow it's gotten broken or whether anyone can tell me if this is a common thing as it seems to have been deleted completly from my computer. it wont show up under network connections and i can't seem to find it anywhere else.
any help would be gratefully recieved as i'd hate to have to get this fixed at a hefty price if it's solveable.

Hi, Just installed a PCI (e x1) Wireless card and Windows Vista (64bit, all latest updates) will not detect it. I have tried it in 2 PCIe x1 slots (my mobo has 2 of these) and I get the same problem in both. I have the latest drivers for the device.

Interestingly, when the power is off and I plug the card in a light shows on the card. As soon as I turn my PC on, the light goes out and doesn't come back.

The wireless card is an ABIT WLP-01 card.

Is this a problem with the mobo/bios or with vista? I'm out of ideas so I'm hoping someone out there can shed some light.

Thanks for reading.

Hi, Just got a refurbished Yoga 2 Pro. The first time I started the system up, the wireless showed up and I connected to my local WLAN. However, few minutes later the wireless dropped out. The issue was that Windows stopped detecting the card. Not showing in the device manager. Strange enough the bluetoth was working fine. The card is an Intel 7260NGW. I thought it was the card, so I replaced it with a new Intel AC7260NGW. The same result. I've removed & reinstalled all drivers including the ones from the Intel website. I've formatted and installed a fresh version of windows 8.1 and reinstalled all drivers again. Not to avail. Now running with an USB wireless adapter.  Any clue what's going on? Thanks in advance guys Daniel

A:Yoga 2 Pro - Wireless Card not Detected by Windows...

Too many topics in this forum show that wireless is a weak point at Lenovo. Either in design, compliancy testing, service and support.Your problem sounds like a hardware failure in the mainboard, that was not enough tested and so not detected during the refurbish. It is gonna be hard to convince Lenovo of this problem...

Hi All,
When I recently installed vista home premium to my laptop it didnt detect the wireless lan adapter which is built into it.
I have reinstalled vista with no luck in solving the problem and don't know what to do as it is useless without it. I hav tried installing drivers which came with the laptop but they are for xp and the acer website only has drivers for xp and 2K.
I thought vista would have been able to register its presence .
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

A:Inbuilt Wireless LAN card not detected by Vista

"I thought vista would have been able to register its presence ."

Not too sure what you mean by that. The way any OS interacts with a device is through the driver that is written to handle that interface. If there is no Vista driver for the wireless adapter your options are to reinstall XP or get a wireless adapter that does have a Vista driver.

Hi guys.

I have a problem with my desktop PC where the wireless card is detected but will not show any networks in range when there are several including my home network. I already replaced my wireless card as the last one wasn't showing at all on device manager and was a bit dated anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions before I go ahead and reinstall windows, which I'd prefer to avoid.

We can't blame LinuX but we blame the manufactures of the device.

They don't program a driver for a linux BoX

all what I can advice you is to buy a Wireless to Wired bridge

so it makes a wireless works as a LAN ( detected as a LAN but working as WLAN!)

google search for it .. and you may post some intersting results here, I am pretty interested!

Ouch if the laptop over heats and shuts down and not recognized again it could actually be physical damage to the video card. Another way to test if the video card has completely failed is by plugging an external monitor into the display port on the laptop. It could connect via hdmi, vga, or possibly display port. If a picture appears on the monitor then it could possibly be software related if you dont see a picture the video card has failed for sure. If it has failed you will more than likely have to replace the motherboard. In rare chance the video card may not be intergrated to motherboard but I doubt it. If you know someone that could whats called (re-flow) the video card

Hi everyone.
I have an Alienware 15 R2 (i7 4720HQ, 970M, 16GB, FHD) running windows 10.
I have set it up in desktop mode by connecting it to ASUS MG28UQ 4K monitor, mouse and keyboard. The monitor is connected through the laptop's mini dp port.
The problem is that when I boot up the laptop with the monitor connected, the laptop's internal sound card (SoundBlaster Redcon 3di) does not function, and is not available in the audio playback devices menu. The intel display audio works, though.
But when i shut down the laptop, disconnect the monitor, and then boot it back up, the sound card is detected and functional, and stays funtional even after i connect the monitor to laptop after it has booted. It keeps working until i reboot, after rebooting the same thing happens.
Any ideas what might be going wrong?

Things i tried:
reinstalled sound card driver
windows troubleshoot

Thanks in advance

A:Sound Card not detected when laptop boots up with external monitor (mini dp) connected - Alienware 15 R2 (4720HQ)

First, make sure that the display audio device is not 'disabled' in Device Manager. When connected through HDMI this should be enabled. If it is disabled, try enabling it and see if that resolves the problem.

Second, I would suggest downloading the latest graphics drivers from Intel. This should also update the HDMI audio drivers, and may fix the problem. You may also need 4th Generation or later CPU graphics drivers. You may want to download Intel's driver updater, to automatically search for drivers.

Yeah. Ididmyc600 is right. Also, make sure that windows will detect the wireless network for you.

While the wireless network card is plugged into the laptop:

Go to Start, My Network Places, View Network Connections, and right click the wireless connection. Then click properties. Click the wireless networks tab and make sure that under "Preferred Networks" it say's automatic.

When you boot up it will automatically search for the network and you are set.

Good luck.

A:Using Laptop as Wireless Card for Desktop

I think I fixed the problem.

After posting, I tried:

Restarting the desktop - no effect
Restarting the router - no effect

Then looked on the laptop at the status of the network bridge and the wired connection (laptop -- desktop). The wired was reporting "10mbps" and the bridge reported "24mbps" which did not look good enough to me at all. These are both gigabit cards!

The problem was the crossover cable. Guess maybe the fact that it's a crossover cable should've been a clue as to why it's not getting full throughput. And it has crimps in it from folding, as well as the clasps that hold it into the network ports were broken off.

I got out my NETGEAR 100Mbit switch, and my two faithful patch cables, and now I am seeing the difference. I know there is some speed limits due to the overhead of going through the laptop, but 2kilobytes per second is ridiculous.

If anyone has any other ideas as to what may have caused this problem, it's probably a good idea to share them, so other people can see.

There are two cables/wires going to the majority of wireless cards on laptops aren't there?
In my expereince one white and one black.

Could someone please tell me what their purpose is?

Also what would happne if wired the wrong way round? Would the device still be recognised by the operating sytsem?

Cheers very much!

A:Laptop Wireless Card 2 cables

They are aerial leads, usually they go into the laptops lid where small metal squares are the actual aerials, something like this :-

If you look carefully where they attach to the card the 2 sockets are probably labelled Main and Aux, the White lead goes to Main.

It would probably still work if the wires are connected to the wrong sockets. The OS will still see the card but the wireless signal could be weaker.

Are you using the adapter's utility or Windows' Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) to manage the connection? And are you sure that the other one is not running?

Hm...I am not sure where you would be able to buy an internal wireless card...if it isn't a driver issue have you thought of an express card slot graphics a linksys from Wal-Mart. I have a friend with one and he says it works great

u can change ur mini pci-express card in ur laptop for wifi, but its pointless your not going to get much more gain. and they wont be cheap and not that easy to find, depends on the model of the laptop assuming they are made to start with.

Okay so I was wondering, if a laptop has a Wireless G card in it, internal, is it possible to change it to a wireless N card? (This is probably a dumb question...)

I was wondering if (and in what cases if you can do it at all) can you change a laptop's wireless card?
(I actually don't see how it's possible, but I thought i'd ask...)

A:Is it possible to change the wireless card in a laptop?

Yes, by purchasing a pcmcia card, to insert in the pcmcia hole on the side of the computer (that little flappy narrow door thing on the side)

I have an Acer Aspire 5520-5912 laptop running Vista Home Premium, 32 bit

A couple of days ago, the wireless card stopped working; the device manager does not show the card. We tried a different card, but it still does not recognize that a card is present.

Where do I start? Would upgrading to Windows 7 help? Should I just give up and buy a USB wireless card?

BTW, not all the USB ports work on this thing. The webcam also died, even though the system thinks it is there.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
FYI, we have 2 other laptops that are running on the LAN without a problem, so I don't think it has anything to do with that.

On one side you have a CardBus (or PCMCIA) slot or a (smaller) ExpressCard slot. My bet is that the diagrams in the "Quick Tour" section of the "Setup Instructions" that came with your laptop show an ExpressCard slot on the right side to the left of the optical drive.

So, many of you have seen or used the Verizon card that allows your laptop to access the Internet using your Verizon mobile phone service.

A friend of mine has one of these that she uses on her HP laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium edition.

I've noticed when I run an "ipconfig /all" command, there are around 20 or so network adapters defined, none of which are connected to anything because the card isn't inserted in the laptop at the time I run the command.

My question: does the use of these Verizon cards cause the creation of that many network connections? If so, why?

A:Wireless does not work with integrated card on laptop

What you have described sounds most like a software error, rather than hardware, probably created in the setup stage.
The usual trick is to remove all related software, edit the registry with a simple editor such as RegEdit or RegCleaner, then reboot and reinstall... after carefully examining the security on the master network... and WEP vs WPA setups.
Or use software such as Network Magic.
Be sure you have downloaded the latest drivers and firmware.

The card may be defective, but top suspects are loose antenna leads and broken antenna. With laptop unplugged and battery removed remove the one or two screws on the bottom covering the wireless card and check the antenna leads.

If that is not the problem I think you should be contacting Dell.

A:Built-in laptop wireless card will not link up to "all-in-one" modems

It could very well be your adapter. TPIK can be used for WPA2 for backward compatibility with WPA but should AES. TPIK is not as secure as AES and is obsolete IMHO. It's possible the adapter on your computer does not support WPA2. Have you tried updating the driver for your wireless adapter? What is the make and model of the laptop?
You could also get a USB wireless adapter. This would be the best option if you can't get the laptop to connect after a driver update.
There is also the possiblity the laptop is having a hard time getting a DHCP address. This was addressed with a Microsoft Fixit.
Here is a good explanation on the TPIK+AES option available at the router.
Edit Edit: I would hazard a guess that these new modem/routers are using WPA2 using AES and not mixed mode.

It seems that the first thing you need to do is establish that the three cards you bought are in fact in working order. Possibly a friend or colleague with a laptop will let you install one temporarily in their laptop assuming they have not ever had a WPC54G installed in that machine. If they can be installed and they work there, it may be version 1 – version 3 issue. I suspect that won’t be the case.

A:wireless network card for a Toshiba Satellite 1405-S151 laptop

If this is the proprietary wireless that came with the Toshiba Satellite, that is easy to find online.
If it is a wireless card you installed, and therefore have, you can look at the numbers on the card, then do a google search with those model numbers to discover there the drivers can be located.
Be sure your old drivers are removed from the Devices list in Hardware in Control Panel.

My Asus X51H did not come with a wireless card. So, I bought the Intel Pro 3945ABG and installed it. attached is a picture of my card

i have attached the antenna properly. the intel wireless manager can not switch it on and gives the error message (Attachment)

the wireless Fn-F2 does not turn it on and the wireless LED does not light.
this machine does nto have any other external switch for wireless.

i feel thsi is an issue that can be solved by covering one or more pins with a tape as in the case of the following thread:
however, my wireless card has different pin configuration as you can clearly see in the picture. does anyone have any idea which pin to cover with tape?

thanks for the help in advance.

###I have attached the photo of my wireless card and the error message screenshot.

A:Installing Intel Pro 3945ABG Wireless card to Asus X51H laptop

problem solved

my vendor tipped me about the pin to cover with tape. its pin 20.
i covered the pin 20 with scotch tape and put it back into the slot.
the card is working fine.

in case you can't find the pin 20, here is a diagram. the second pin from the notch at the bottom side of the card is pin20
you have to be careful not to cut the board while cutting the tape. covering the pin20 only is a tricky thing. it took to half an hour.
i have attached a pictorial description of the pins.

This morning I went to go on to the internet and it says it can't connect to a network. I've never had this problem before so I clicked on the network and it said it couldn't detect any.

When i clicked on "diagnose the problem" it says "there are driver or hardware problems with the network adapter "dell wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card" on this computer.

I have a Dell Inspiron 640m

I can find the cord to hook it up to the internet with a wire (I can buy one if absolutely needed) and I do have the original software CD.

I not good with computers so if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

Hi:Take a look at device manager, particularly the WLAN card.Any error indicators?
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Also.Go to the Dell site.Search the drivers available for your particular model by inputting the service tag # for your unit.Should be on a side or bottom tag along with model and serial #.This will make it a lot easier to determine the proper driver(s) to download/install

Also,let's see this:
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

My friend gave me his laptop to diagnose Internal in secured Card connect laptop unse Wireless networks, to only won't Solved: It s an Acer with an Atheros AR BXB wireless card inside He is running Vista Basic It will connect to my network if I make it unsecure but as soon as I enable WEP or WPA it won t connect It sees the SSID and attempts to connect but Windows just gives a message saying it can t connect I bought a Sony Atheros AR BXB on eBay to see if it would work but I get the same results I installed Windows on the laptop Solved: Internal Wireless Card in laptop won't connect to secured networks, only unse to test it and it wouldn t connect at all whether it was unsecured or not I went to another friend s house and removed the internal wireless card from his HP laptop and stuck it in this Acer and it worked It was an Intel Wireless-N card The friend who owns this Acer laptop said it just stopped working one day It s weird that neither of the Atheros cards work but the Intel did I m thinking it s some kind of driver issue with the hardware and maybe my friend s driver got updated during an Automatic Update I plan to order the Intel AN MMWW and stick it in the Acer and hope it works Any ideas on why the Atheros cards didn t work other than a driver issue nbsp

A:Windows 7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 network card can't connect to wireless network

Three things to try ...

If you have McAfee please see the sticky thread at the top of this (Networking) forum.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Revert to a System Restore Point before the weekend.

I have a printer (with wireless capability) wired to desktop (Windows XP) and a wireless laptop (Windows 7). My question is, can the printer be connected wirelessly to the laptop as well as wired to the desktop, or does everything have to be wireless?
Another question: If I want to share files between the two computers, do they both have to be the same operating system? (one is Windows XP and the other is Windows 7)

A:Solved: Wireless Laptop/Wireless Desktop (via wireless adapter)/ printer

I would guess that the printer can be connected by ethernet and wireless, but I've never had one with both capabilities so I don't really know.

I once had a printer that worked OK connected to a network plus connected to another computer by USB. Even so, that may depend on the particular printer.

There may be two operating systems that cannot file share with each other but I don't know which ones that might be. Windows XP and 7 are fine sharing with each other (but not claiming that nobody has had any problems).

I have a belkin wireless g pci and it is not detected in one of my computers and a couple more I had but works fine in all the others. I work on computers by the way. Its not detected at all in device manager or add new hardware. I called belkin and they couldn't figure it out so they sent me a replacement so now I have 2 but still not detected. The computer I have is a x brand with asus txp4 mobo. I jumpered the p1 to run at 250mhz, 64mb ram. I thought it might be the os so I took off windows 2000 pro and installed 98se but didn't work. I tried to update the bios and play around with the bios settings and switching pci slots. I can't figure it out. Hopefully you can help.

A:wireless pci not detected

Is any card detected in one of those problem slots? Have you tried switching a working card into such a slot and putting the wireless card in a known working slot?

I'm mostly just guessing, but think it's a problem with the slot(s), not the OS and not the card.

my wireless card just went bonkers ..

my net got discoonected.. and the system asks me to enable my wireless card..

i have a acer 5050 ,new laptop,with vista

on going to services.msc i did not find anything related to wireless devices...

A:wireless not detected

Most laptops have either a switch or a function key sequence to enable the wireless. I think that's where you need to look.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

I just bought this GFX card for a brand new PC I bought that had onboard.

I have a PCI express port and inserted the graphics card yet my monitor will not start up with the PC when I turn it on (the light on the monitor which should turn green when the display shows stays orange and no display shows). I have checked the monitor cables, the graphics card connections and absolutely everything I can think but still it just won't work and the card is not being detected. I also tried to install the drivers with my monitor plugged into the onboard and it said 'no suitable hardware found for these drivers'.

Would appreciate some help.

I recently bought a new video card the gt 220. I connected it to the slot correctly and everything, the fan on the card goes on when i power the pc but its not being detected as a video device. it says its a pci-e 2.0 slot but in minimum req says any pci-e slot will work not necessarily a 2.0 i dont know which i have. I used to have a video card that died on me and now im thinking it might have been the slot that died. I don't have access to another card to check if the slot works or not with a known working video card. Just want to know what you guys thought about it because the video does go on its just not detected.
