Q: Local network issue

can i pass my internet traffic on one network to other network connected via same SWITCH. i explain,
i have a broadband connection to a BSD system with IP :211.224.196.1 connected directly to network switch.
Now i know that i can use 211.224.196.2 - 211.224.196.254 with gateway 211.224.196.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 for internet distribution.

but my broadband provider gives machines an ip of range 212.224.196.1-254.224.196.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and the gateway 211.224.196.1 and primary dns server 211.224.196.1 . is it valid????????????? .

Preferred Solution: Local network issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You've lost me a little if the two networks are connected why don't you just rewire it so there is one big network. Do you think you could supply a network diagram of your current network? Then we can work out what you need to do.

If am trying to share files / printer between to Win 7 computers on the same network. From one of the computers neither the homegroup or the network will work. I can see the other computer in the homegroup but I can't access the files.

With network, it tells me the network provider name is invalid. I will not even allow me to access the network folders on the local machine.

The machine has a single administrator account. I think that there is something wrong with the administrator privileges, but I am not sure what.

I have tried most of the things mention in this forum to right the problem, but nothing works. There was a suggestion to scan the system files for corrupted or broken files. It writes a log file at the end of this process. I couldn't examine the file because there is something wrong with my administrator privileges.

So HELP please.

A:Local Network Issue

Hi there,

If you're sure that the Homegroup in your network is setup correctly try creating a new account as Administrator from the problematic computer and see if you're able to access the shared network resources. Compare the ipconfig/all output of this computer to another working computer. If there's any discrepancies please post both ipconfig/all output in your next post.

Okay here's my situation I'm on a W machine connected over Wifi Network is a issue Browsing Network Local debian server is my DHCP at pointing to the router at This router is connected to another LAN Local Network Browsing issue my Dad's to a DSL router My router was given the address but I fixed it and set the DHCP from the DSL router to assign addresses from Local Network Browsing issue and up I've also set up DMZ on the DSL router for my router at Before I did that W Network Troubleshooting told me there where multiple NAT's on my network and hence it could not browse nor share over the local network W stopped telling me there are any problems as soon as I had set up the DMZ But still I can't see the W computer on the network whereas this previously worked perfectly The connection is treated by W as private and all sharing options are set up correctly I can't connect to any service on the W computer VNC DLNA various remote control servers using a variety of ports The W also can't browse the network but I can manually type in the ip address of the debian server in explorer and see these shares As a last resort I've completely turned of the Windows Firewall but that doesn't change my situation does turning of the firewall blocks all connections as ie Shorewall does or does it leave the computer unprotected as was the case with older version of Windows I will happily provide you with more details logs if that could shine a light on this matter Thanks

A:Media Streaming over the local network issue ?

If it was me I'd be thinking of trying a different router. All your machines should be up to the task no problem.

Media Streaming works perfectly with Windows 7 and I do a lot of streaming.

Even wirelessly out to me garage I can stream movies perfectly with no skipping at 20mbps wireless.

I don't believe you should need to mess with the routers firewalls either.

Hi guys,

I have got a problem with my brother's computer. I have installed the ethernet controller driver from the CD, but I couldn't be able to connect to the network due to an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or might be broken. I tried to repaired it but it doesn't help. I went on manufacturer's Web site to look for a driver, but i couldn't find it. And I went on google and couldn't find it either. I don't know what I am suppose to do. The name of the motherboard my brother have got is ASROCK K7NF2-RAID.
Could anyone help me to find me the update driver or how I can be able to connect to the network of the rounter where i could be able to connect to the internet?
Any advice would be much appreicated.
Thanks in advance.

A:Local Area Connection Network Issue Windows 7

but I couldn't be able to connect to the network due to an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or might be broken.Click to expand...

you need to test the cable on another PC and make sure the cable is 1) correctly plugged in and 2) Not broken

for the driver
lets see an ipconfig /all
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.

Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.

The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

A:Will adding a 2nd network card improve local network transfer speed

That won't really help the way you are describing the problem, although adding access points will help with streaming to wireless devices.

Although there is a setting in Group Policy that allows you to use two connections at the same time, I don't believe it will help in this situation.

I've done many HD movie streaming tests on my system.

I can stream from my media PC to at least 7 other machines at the same time, 4 wired, 3 wireless, plus my TV, and have no problems at all, no skipping, no freezing, even with the same movie in the same place or with 8 different movies at once, my TV is connected to my media center PC so counts as the 8th one.

This is Gb LAN, and 300Mbps wireless but even the 65Mbps limited laptop has no problem.

I'm not really sure why you are seeing these limitations but it may be the router.

HI,

I have installed server 2003 on a small network and created a domain that is the same as the public domain name (ie the companies website).

This is now causing a problem because when i type in the public address (for example www.company.com) it is trying to resolve it locally - because the local domain name is also company.com.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get round this problem?

Many thanks in advance

Dave

A:problem with the local network having the same domain name as the public network

add 'local.' to the internal domain or change it altogether.

Your public domain should not have any connection into your private infrastructure,
but you may have references from private->public; not very common.

I am currently working on a hand me down pc at work. It seems to have some sort of policy set so that even the local admin account can not install software. There is no registry.pol file in the system32\grouppolicy\user folder. Also, everything under local security settings under admin tools is set to default. I don't know where this policy is coming from, I'm guessing there must be something in the registry but do not even know where to begin looking. Any ideas?

Hi Experts,

I'd like your help in solving a problem I have with Vista and an ad-hoc peer-to-peer wired network.

When I run the wizard to connect to a network, it does not show the add ad-hoc network option, only four others for wireles, internet and vpn connection.

Also, although I have networked two PC's both running Vista, I cannot ping the second machine from the first and vice versa despite having added routes to both machines.

nslookup recognises the ip address of each machine, as does tracert

(I should point out that both machines obtain their iP addresses from a router which also allows access to the internet. Both machines can see the internet).

I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction

How strange that you couldn't access web pages, but you could use AIM. Although, that would use a different port.

Open a command prompt and try pinging an ip address.

C: ping "www.yahoo.com" (without the quotes)

Was is successful?

C: ping 128.163.1.6

successful?

Update your network card to the newest driver.

Run C: ipconfig /all > config.txt

upload config.txt to us here.

I'm working with a Window 7 Enterprise 64-bit system. It seems that anyone in the Administrators group that tries to open Internet Explorer gets the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
First off, anyone in theother groups, Power Users, ect., can open IE no problem. There's no security settings locking down iexplore.exe and nothing in Applocker. No sure where else to look for this issue. Any ideas?

A:Local Policy restriction issue

Long shot, but if IE was previously used to open a file (presumably .htm, or .html) from a removable device, e.g.: by going to File > Open > Browse..., and the removable device (e.g.: USB stick) has since been removed the program may 'hang' whilst trying to (unsuccessfully) open the file location. I saw this quite a bit with older operating systems (e.g.: Windows 98, 2000, and to a lesser extent XP) and usually with floppy disks. However IE has been around for a long time and whilst some parts are quite new other 'root' parts probably are not!

The fastest way -- FTPDMIN: Minimal ad-hoc file transfer Windows FTP server Windows 7 will alert you that it's listening on the FTP ports but that's what you want right? Make note of the IP address it's listening on and make sure that's the address on your local network you want.

Then just use your favorite FTP client in Ubuntu...

You'll have to do something called "split-tunneling" to access both the internet and LAN.
I don't know what operating system you have, and the steps to do this are different depending on the OS, so here are a few links to help you figure it out (I honestly have next to no experience in this area):

why dont you set your updates so they are not automatic , then pick the updates to install , install them one at a time run your pc for a while each time until you find the offending update

A:Combo Fix Help...local Connection Unplugged Issue

Hello JentheartistYou should not be using Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is a powerful tool intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.Further, you did not follow the required instructions for using ComboFix as its log indicates your machine does not have the Recover Console Installed. Please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". You may have performed some of these steps already. If you can't perform a step, then skip and continue with the next. In step #9 there are instructions for downloading HijackThis and creating a log. (This is a self-extracting version which will automatically install the current version of HJT in the proper location.) If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator. When you have done that, post your log in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day. Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. Please include the top portion of the HijackThis log that lists version information. An expert will analyze your log and reply with instructions advising you what to fix. After doing this, we would appreciate if you post a link to your log back here so we know that your getting help from the HJT Team. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your post or make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

A:Vista limited/ local connectivity issue

The ethernet "Media disconnected" in the ipconfig /all is because you did not have a cable connected at that time?

At first look about all you maybe didn't do is run Symantec's Norton Removal Tool. Sometimes the stack repairs have to be run after that tool is run. I assume the commands you did were ...

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Ok so i recently Deleted all Local Storage on Adobe Flash, and it totally ruined a webpage for me.

Issues.

-Images refuse to cache in firefox/Showup in wrong positions.
-This persists in every browser.
-Ive tried disabling ad block extension yet failed.
-Tried running firefox in safe mode yet failed.
-Tried editing about:config yet failed.
-Even enabled java & flash on that specific webpage and it still will not show up correctly.
-It was working perfectly fine until i cleared the local storage like a moron.

Why wont the page show up correctly? Even after 2 PC Reboots and a clean firefox Reinstall?

I inspected one of the images and it says "Unknown (not cached)".

Make sure you have the latest firmware for the router. Then reset it to factory defaults and reconfigure it. (Make sure you know the important settings before starting this procedure.)

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have installed both an HP WiFi Laser Printer and a Lorex Security System connected through ethernet cable recently. During setup for both things I have been given an IP address to access them through a browser, but can't seem to connect. The printer is functioning on the Network, so not really a problem, but I I want to access the Security System from the web. My router shows the mac address of the Security System, so its there, just can't get in.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help!

Is there a command prompt command to run a file within a network? Such as shutdown -i [localip] etc..

A:Run a file within a local network

One does not "run a file". Open can "open" a file, but that's executing an application and telling it to open that file.

Perhaps if you were more specific about what you mean.

I recently purchased a new HP laptop with built in wireless adapter. While setting up this PC I connected to my wireless network just fine to update the windows operating system, (Vista Home Premium).

A few days later I upgraded my desktop PC which is connected to the router with a cable from XP Media Edition to Windows Vista Home Premium.

Now, when I turn on my new laptop it will only connect to my wireless network "locally" and not connect to the Internet.

Nothing has changed with my router.

What gives? I can't make it work.

This isn't retore time.

When you connected directly, did it work? As unless something else can get aqccess, i'd be incline to think bad hub.

Hi-

I am hoping someone has run across this and can offer some advice
My printing worked fine up till a few weeks ago.
I have removed and unintalled the printers, drivers and packages.
Rebooted my laptop
Went to vendor website and downloaded latest drivers
Installed printer first as local LPT1 with the latest drivers from previous step
added port, a TCP/IP port and provided the static IP address reserved for this printer.

When I try to print a test page it sends to printer and after about a minute the print queue
will show "error printing" and that is it.

Print spooler is set to automatic and started
no other jobs are in print queue at time I send the test page

Thanks in advance for any help, tom

If I have three computers on local network and only one has internet access will this update all machines on local network?

A:Updates on Local Network

Yeah - this is a great option. It does not entirely stop getting stuff from internet as it is basically a torrent system, but is much faster and much reduces download demand

A torrent system basically extacts bits of a file from multiple sources, so each serving pc does not have to upload whole file (uploading usually being slower than downloading), and receiving pc glues it all together again. So you might get 5 pcs uploading a fifth each of the file at the same time, and pc can download all five parts simultaneously as download is usually several times faster than upload. It actually works in much smaller increments, but the principle is the same.

I always update my fast pc first, leaving my other slower devices switched off. Then I turn on other devices, and you see the hdd flicking away as it serves the updates to the other devices.

Do not enable last option as it will 'steal' bandwidth from you.

Hi everyone,

I have a problem. One of the computers here at work can't log into the network. When I click O:\ Drive it gives me an error saying "Local device in use". This has happend before in the past. The problem was one of the tech guys hooked up a laptop and put a IP address that someone already using, so they put a different IP Address for the laptop. But the computer still could not get into the network drive. Eventually the problem was resolved but I was not here to see it done.

I already checked the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties and everything looks ok.

Does anyone has a resolution for this?

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Only idea I have is to try installing the Vista drivers in compatibility mode: Info here if needed: Compatibility Mode

Hope this helps and that you enjoy the forums.

log into the router and remove the wireless security - no see if it will connect - if it does - log back into the router and try the wireless security again
------------------------------------------------------------------------
What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

can we see an ipconfig /all
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Good morning, I connect at home wirelessly with no issues using W7 Ultimate on my Fujitsu laptop. I don't really understand all the different types of network but currently I share with no one, and under the network settings it states 'Home Network' and then 'Ready to Create.'

I was away for work recently at another site and they have an open wi-fi for visitors to use on non-work laptops, so it's passworded but other than that, it's totally unrestricted.

When I tried to connect it found the wi-fi network with full strength but would not identify and connect - the password was okay as I when I tried an incorrect one, it stated just that.

Do I need to do something different with regards to grouping/network etc or could the fault have possibly been with them?

Thanks - Blue

Note: it used to work on XP Pro!

I have just up dated four of our computers to windows 10 and set up a wifi network between the 4 computers without too many problems.
However I have a problem with a local connection from my main pc (windows 10) to a pc which runs in parallel (pc on windows xp) they are linked by ethernet cable. When I boot the machines in the morning windows 10 displays an icon with the xp pc and all works fine. Later on in the day the xp pc icon has disappeared but working on the xp machine it is still possible to link to the windows 10 machine.
My question is once the icon has disappeared of the windows 10 pc how can I re-establish to link? It appears that the link still exists but I can't access it.

A:local network 10 to xp ethernet

Confusing setup.

When the icon disappears, trying typing the ip of the machine into explorer.

Like this:

Code:
\\192.168.1.178\
or
\\10.0.0.28\
If that don't work, open an admin command prompt and enter this command to see if the other machine shows up

Code:
net view

So, here is the problem. I have two laptops I am working on. The gentleman who owns the laptops recently got an air port router for his macs. Well, the two HPs that he has, both of their wireless cards stopped connecting to his network. Nor, will the connect to mine. If I connect it through Ethernet, the internet works great. If I connect it through wireless, local only every time.

I need help to resolve this issue. I have tried renewing the ip address. Disabled the IPv6. Uninstalled Norton in case it had a block on it. Disabled firewall temporarily. Uninstalled all Air Port files. I am absolutely boggled on what this guy could have done.

If it means anything, he is running vista on both of them.

I connect to work through a Cisco VPN. My home office has a broadband router with two computers and a network printer. I can print from either computer as long as I am not connected to the VPN. However, I would like to be able to print when I am connected to the VPN.

I have enabled Local Lan Access on my VPN settings, but once connected the Properties window says that Local LAN access is disabled.

Any suggestions as to how to configure my system so I can print on my network printer while remaining connected to the VPN?

Thanks!

A:Local network printing with a VPN

Are you using a VPN client to connect to the system? That would complicate matters, a lot.

I'm using a VPN here, with a Cisco router. However, to "log on" to the VPN I just use the Windows logon system with my username/password. I just had to add my network printer (HP LaserJet 6 on a DLink server) to the system as a local administrator, and it was available and working under the VPN account.

I recently had to re-install Windows XP (SP2) on my Dell 5150 Laptop. I have not been able to get my internet connection to work since the re-install. I have plugged the cable into my network card in the computer and the light that comes on is orange and not green. I know the cable and internet connection work fine because I use that same connection/cable on my desktop computer with no problems. I recently used this same port on my laptop not more than a week ago with no glitches. I have gone to Network Connections in the control panel and there is no Local Area Connection icon being displayed. There is a 1394 Connection and a Wireless Network Connection icon displayed but no LAN connection. I do not have a wireless Network connection so I am unable to use that. Please let me know what you think about why I do not have a LAN connection.

I think you should find an app from Network Information Tools - TotalShareware Software Archive

If you want to go overkill - check out the ultimate network analyzer: The Ethereal Network Analyzer. I was quite amazed of how much information is being transferred all the time on LAN.

A:log in requirement for local network

The account you logon your machine has to exist on the replaced machine. Same name same password. You also need to have file and print sharing enabled as well as the windows firewall set to allow file and print sharing. Than you will have access without being asked for a password.

I have what is probably a basic, stupid user question, but I'm having a brain freeze.

I have a router that issues DHCP addresses in the range 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.119. I use other IP addresses outside this range for devices that need static IPs. I've used 192.168.1.120 and 192.168.1.130. I also have an extra router on the network with with DHCP disabled.

So I set a computer to use 192.168.1.200, and it doesn't connect. Am I missing something?

Hey all my first post so bear with me Running Vista Home Premium and I'm having great difficulties connecting to the internet through my home network My wireless router is a D-Link WBR- and I've tried the Internet Connectivity Test on microsoft com using another laptop with XP and it said the router should work with Vista albeit with some vista features disabled D-link itself says the router should work with Vista and I have to most up-to-date firmware for the on only Network Local Access router The XP laptop connects to the network and internet just fine I have WPA- security running and I made sure both machines are using the same passkey and are part of the same workgroup The problem is that Vista says I'm connected to Local Access only on Network the network but there is no internet connection and no amount of diagnose and repair fixes the problem such as reseting the wireless adapter Local Access only on Network obtaining new IP address etc I've even tried using a LAN cable to connect to the router but to no avail either Does anyone have any idea to what is going on here Is this possibly a router compatibility issue

A:Local Access only on Network

Hi malfuriouspete,

Go into your Network And Sharing Center (either through Control Panel or right-click on the network icon at bottom right and select)
Your network name should be declared here as Private - if not, you can click "customize" and put it as Private

Hello One of my mom s friend recently gifted me his old laptop because he bought a new one It is a Windows Vista -bit about a month ago is what Wireless now that Local Network does mean? Everything was working fine until Wireless Network is now Local what does that mean? last night when I closed my laptop in the middle of a Netflix show Perhaps that was Wireless Network is now Local what does that mean? wrong but I ve never had that issue before Anyway this morning when I woke up my internet was not working The diagnostics said that my Wireless Security Key was not correct even though I typed in the correct password I even checked on my phone and my phone worked So on my phone I managed to Google the issue I tried the solutions and none of them worked Till I was fed up went into my router by clicking properties and tried every single security type Then magically it worked Ironically on the same security type that it started with WPA-Personal TKIP However now my wireless says Local and Internet What does that mean Does that mean that now everybody in my apartment can connect to my internet and reach all my files All my passwords and secure information If so how do I change it back to being private Thank you anyone who can help me nbsp

Hi,
I have 2 computers side by side both vista. This one can get to the Internet and the other one show Access Local Only.

I was working with file sharing and Internet stopped working. Is there a tie in with sharing and Internet connection?

I want a folder with read write access and no user/password protection and Internet connection. Is there a way to make this happen?

Is the sharing part of my network problem?

Hi, This is urgent

Something happened to my computer after the last virus scan. I was thinking maybe my files got deleted with it

I am not able to connect to the internet trough CABLE. The cable hole on my software shows a green sign (means it is connected?), but there is no sign of connectivity

I tried a different cable network, and I still get the same. No reaction whatsoever from the internet

Only wireless is available, which is ridiculous for a Desktop

I open the network connections and there is nothing, just wireless drivers and wireless availability

I tried to create a network manually but, the computer only allows me to create wireless or such connections

Everything is really slow..i cant even watch a video or play a game. everything gets jammed. tx to the wireless

How to fix this?

A:my local network does not work

I think that, possibly, a quick fix might be a system restore. If the problem was due to the last scan it should work.

I have two computers connected to the same modem with a printer connected to the one. The problem is that I can neither find the printer through Windows from the other computer so that I'll be able to print documents from both computers nor can I create a local network between the computers. So frustrating. Okay. I have a pretty basic network. Its 3 computers, 1 wireless 2 wired. all through 1 router. Okay I have an ADSL modem to a Linksys WRT54g, then two computers wired, one on wireless and an XBOX 360 wired too. I cannot ping one wired computer to the other, both computers can ping the router and both can ping loopback (127.0.0.1)

Why cant they ping eachother? I have had this network setup and running before, now i have updated both motherboards in both wired computers and reinstalled windows on both aswell. They used to communicate perfectly and when i went to setup the network they could already ping eachother so i never had a problem. any suggestions?

A:Solved: Need Local Network Help PLEASE

If they are both accessing the internet through the same router an inability to ping is almost always a firewall issue.

A:Local Only Network Connection

Hey Chris (I'm assuming your name is Chris from the IP settings...),

Let me be the first to welcome you to Vista X64 forums.

It looks like your router/modem does not have DHCP enabled (or it has a MAC Address filter in place.) Do you know how to edit your router's settings? If not, your ISP may need to do it from their side.

I would like to thank you one hundred ten percent for posting this information from the get-go. It makes our lives so much easier when information is posted in this manner.

It looks like when your computer is set to DHCP/Automatic IP, your router is not giving the PC an IP address. If I'm not mistaken, the 169.254... IP addy is an APIPPA address (Automatic Private IP Address). This address is used by Windows when it is looking for an address but the router it's connected to does not want to give it one.

This either means your router has DHCP disabled, or your router has a "filter" on it baring all but a specific set of MAC Addresses/computer names from connecting to it.

Thanks!

Hi. I am a student in a major University

As in all major institution we have acces to wireless network.

It is a SSID WEP crypted network with an authentification IEEE 802.1X (EAP PEAP)

I have no problem connecting to Internet.

However as a model student, I want to play with some friends through the network. It seem impossible to see eachother in IPX or UDP. I was wondering how I could manage to see other friends computer (as I would in a home local network). So we could share files throught the network and play some game in network (not having to pass trough the net...)

Thx for the help.

Hello,

I'm puzzled as to how "add a local printer" and "add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer" are different.

Under "Add a local printer", I can use an existing port or create a new port, under which I can set a TCP/IP address to connect to shared printer over network. What's the difference between existing port and new port? How is this port local when I can set IP address to printer shared over network?

And how does "add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer" function differently than the former? I'm trying to distinguish the nature between the two so I can get a better understand for troubleshooting purposes. I appreciate any help.

I have a small network of four desktops and two laptops. One of my laptops, an IBM Think pad X40 cannot access the workgroup. It cannot even see itself, I time out and get an error if I try to view the workgroup.

"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."

All the other PCs function fine. This has really got my stumped and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive tried everything I can think of short of reformatting. I've reinstalled in hardware drivers, I've reinstalled all the client-service-protocol stuff in network connections, I've enabled and disabled firewalls, set it as the DMZ host on the router. Ive used both wired and wireless connections. I've gone through the wireless setup wizard probably 15 times now. I am totally baffled as to what is causing this.

A:Cannot see other computers on local network.

Forgot to mention: Other computers can see the name of the IBM Laptop on the network but cannot access it with a network path not found error. And the Internet works fine.

Hi
I got a new laptop because my old one was fried by the weather! But now when I try to connect to the network, I can only access the internet and I want to know how I can get my shared folders, which is on the one network computer (which is the main one) to show on "my network places"

I'm using windows XP

A:Cant connect to local LAN network

You first have to get the computers on the same network (e.g., connected to the same router). Then you need to enable file and printer sharing; here is a wizard way.

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC other than XP or 2k Pro or Vista.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2 or SP3) will be properly configured by the wizard. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, accept the offer to load other drivers if your other PCs have different Operating System(s).

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment. It takes awhile (up to 15 minutes) before all the computers in the workgroup get up-to-date and accurate lists of the other computers. Often you can speed up this process via Search for other computers.

When computers show up in My Network Places, double click on one to see its shares. If that includes a printer, you can right click on the printer to connect to it.

how can i manage vlc on one network to another
it is http interface something

A:remotely use vlc on local network

Which is it, local network or one network to another and if the latter, is it via the Internet or still local?

Remote on a local network is a snap. After assigning a static local I.P. to all server machines if you haven't already (not needed if you use machine name instead), share the folders you want to serve and just open them across the network.

I really do not know where this post would fit best since the developer states it maybe a local machine settings issue I am posting in this section first If anyone thinks it fits in another section better let me know and I will post this over there I was running Nvidia drivers drivers for my GTX with no issues at all My most demanding graphic program I run by far is FSX on Saturday I upgraded to the Nvidia drivers On corruption, machine for local to issue? ideas Looking try, graphic the new drivers FSX runs great in my standard test flight Looking for ideas to try, graphic corruption, local machine issue? I run from KJFK to KEWR I see a FPS improvement and this is saying a lot since around NYC I have a lot of heavy hitting FPS addons All of my heavy duty payware aircraft Aerosoft F PMDG MD CS MD VRS FA E run without a problem except one After updating the drivers Looking for ideas to try, graphic corruption, local machine issue? my ES v CX gets graphic corruption in the VC Below are two screenshots the top is with the corruption and the bottom is without The plane loads fine the corruption shows up only after I Looking for ideas to try, graphic corruption, local machine issue? toogle through all the views from the VC and when I get back to the VC I have this corruption The corruption can take up to minutes into a flight before it shows up It usually shows up when I am taxiing to a runway for takeoff Before I get the corruption I can toggle through the views times or more sometimes only two or three I fly in windowed mode all the time once I get the corruption I can toggle from windowed mode to full screen and the corruption is gone I can then toggle back to windowed mode and the corruption is still gone and will not come back for to minutes I can then clear it up by toggling into full screen go back to windowed and it is still gone Since this did not happen until I went to the drivers it would be logical that it has something to do with the drivers but all other aircraft and FSX in general have no problems with the drivers all problems are only with the ES v CX This is a quote from the developer's support site and this is the only answer they will supply no further support will be given for this issue quot This thread addresses the few who have a Graphics Card Driver Issue along with a possible Trusted dll Issue Both cases are Local Machine Settings Issues which we cannot address from afar We do suggest that you have a look at rolling back to previous video drivers and or and experiment a bit with drivers to solve what we know is local machine related quot I have uninstalled reinstalled the drivers no change I have uninstalled reinstalled the ES v CX no change Before I reinstalled the ES v CX I cleaned the registry with CCleaner and Glarysoft RR Does anyone have any idea what ES means by quot Both cases are Local Machine Settings Issues quot If anyone knows what they are talking about is there anything that I can try besides going back to the drivers and reverting back does not mean I will get rid of this issue If something has chanced in the local machine settings in the registry reverting back to the old drivers will not necessarily mean the registry problem will get fixed Does anyone know what they mean by quot Trusted dll Issue quot There was not a problem with the EX v CX dll's with the drivers so why would dll's be a problem with the drivers FMS in VC corrupted http img imageshack us img cx fms jpg FMS in VC not corrupted http img imageshack us img cx fms jpg

My problem is this, I have a network of several computers on a local network using windows client (windows 98se operating system). When I dialup to another computer at a different location I loose the local connections, however, when I disconnect the dialup I can restore the local connections, but not when I am connected with the dialup. This config has worked for
some time and this problem just occured. I have done a number of virus
scans but find nothing. Help!

A:Loose local network when using dialup

Possibly same subnet / or netmask overlap.

---------

When not connected on dialup.

Get output from "winipcfg" (winders 9x), or "ipconfig /all" in anything above.
Also get "route print" from command line.

When connected, do the same.

Chances are, the dialup host you're connecting to is dealing you an IP in the same subnet or an overlapping subnet.

(i.e. LAN 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0. PPP dialup 192.168.25.0 255.255.0.0 superscedes the previous LAN subnet.)

If you see something overlapping. Your dialup or your LAN's subnet is needing an IP change.
