I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba Satellite notebook with Windows Because I frequently Getting network wireless kicked off have to Getting kicked off wireless network take my computer Getting kicked off wireless network to client sites I find it easier to connect to the internet via wireless Often after the computer has been idle for an extended period it would disconnect from the wireless When I came back I would have to go through a reconnect and sometimes use troubleshooting to get back on-line Recently however the problem has expanded I'll be sitting at the computer working when it just goes off line When I click on reconnect and then go to troubleshooting one of several things happen I get a message that says quot Troubleshooting was unable to automatically fix all of the issues found 'Local Area Connection' doesn't have a valid IP configuration quot Then it reconnects I get a message that says quot Investigate router or broadband modem issues quot and tells me that it could not fix the problem Then it reconnects Neither of the above work and I have to reboot Does anyone know why it is doing this and more importantly if there is anything I can to about it It is incredibly annoying to click send on an email only to get a message that I am no longer connected to the internet Thanks for any help Harry Dreier

I removed the email address so that you do not get swamped by spam.

First thing is to update the driver for the wireless card . . Download it from the manufacturers support site and install it.

if the problem is still there,we can look deeper into your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus WiFi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here. For Vista and Windows 7, 8 you can use the Windows Snipping Tool

I have a pc desktop, pc laptop, and a Macbook. ATT DSL is my IPS, and the router is a D-link DI-624 v. C, and it has the most recent firmware.

I can be on my Mac for hours, and when I turn on my desktop PC, the Mac gets kicked off the wireless network within minutes.

Is it the router?

Don't think it's the Macbook, as I have no problems at hotspots.

My wireless on one computer (Compaq Presario M2000) has been very spotty for the past couple of days. It will not connect automatically to the wireless (router: Linksys WRT54G modem: Motorola SB5120). When I connect manually, it works for about ten minutes and then kicks me off again. I am able to reconnect, but again after ten minutes, I'm off again. Sometimes when I am connected the icon in the bottom still indicates that I'm disconnected. This does not happen with my other laptop. I tried to change my IP address, but I'm too good at this stuff and it didn't work. Any advice???

A long time ago we got a wireless router for our downstairs and two quot cards quot which where placed in mine kicked out the Network Sister of me and my sister s computer Well our quot friend quot jacked her laptop card thingy and all and so she was lap-topless for a while Now her father got her a relatively old lap-top and we got her a new quot card quot to hook her up The Router was a Linksys quot Wireless-G quot Router which came with some quot SiS -based PCI Sister kicked me out of the Network Adaptors quot or something similar Now when she connected with her new card it required a network password or something where I just typed in some letters I remember and after I lost internet connection upstairs I was forced to type in the pass I am sure I had it right but it did not connect It said it was at first connecting and then renewing the IP address although it never completed renewing the IP Later after much tinkering with mine and the router connected PC s network settings it doesn t even connect although I suspect it never really did Any tips nbsp

This is my work computer and while I was checking my email a notification popped up from my anti spyware which is CA Secruity. There was a "Red X" down in my taskbar but once I pressed "Kill" on CA Security scan and restarted my pc it was gone. Yet my troubles continue. I've been booted off the network, it seems. When I try to start Quickbooks or UPS World Ship or even just try to go to the network itself it just says "You might not have permission to use to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." This has never happened before and no one at work knows why. I think the thing from the email did it. Also I have XP SP3.

Sorry for the inconvience

I m trying to setup connect a wireless printer HP All-in-one so that a user can use his laptop wireless and print from anywhere in the house He did not have Home Solved: with How wireless to Printer - Internet & Wireless network any network set-up previously He had dialup and just purchased a new laptop with wireless and this new printer and has just gotten this new Rogers quot Rocket quot Stick Solved: How to - Wireless Internet & Home network with wireless Printer It s a USB internet connection uses cell phone frequency Normally this is pretty straight forward when conected to a wireless router I brought over a wireless router to test out When Rogers quot Rocket quot stick is connected for internet Can I connect to another wireless home network for sharing at the same time Computer Vista Laptop with Rogers Rocket Stick I tried a couple of things Setup a wireless network I used the setup internet connection wizard to configure a computer to computer wireless adhoc network appears to work for very short distances - feet I was able to print a test page but not anything else - so I thought about using my Dlink Router for greater distance if it was a distance thing as indicated I setup the Dlink wireless router as a standalone wireless network - not conected to the internet configured it and then configured my HP printer wireless to connect to that network I successfully configured the printer via wizard to connect to the found network - I then connected to this wireless network and added the network printer using it s HP Wireless wizard - it found it and added it successfully - I was able to print a test page from about feet But when I move to another room - It would not print assumed maybe a conflict collision with wireless rocket - but not sure Then I setup the HP printer as a hard wired network printer not wireless attached to a port on the wireless router itself - I then determined its IP address printer config report and then connected to the wireless network router and set-up added printer on the laptop as quot local printer quot using TCP IP specifying this ip address - When connected to the home wireless network and I was able to print a test page but not anything else Not sure if I m having a problem with the Rocket and Wireless router conflicting a firewall issue or something else or just Vista playing games Biggest issue is that it appears the wireless printer CAN BE reached by the laptop by either the wireless setup or direct network printer connection successfully Issue is that I m not able to print any other documents I get a message saying the printouts are pending I assume the printer is configured for sharing - thought about this after I left It appears it has something to do with a lost connection or collision Not sure if I m clear here - looking for advice recommendation on how to set this up Any help direction appreciated nbsp

Hi there, I use Wireless internet for both my pc and laptop, and connect through my BT Homehub. But whenever I open the wireless connections tab, it always shows a Talk Talk Wireless option along with the BT one which I use (and sometimes a 3rd connection that is unknown to me).
I think my network is secure, as I have to put a network key in before it will connect to the internet on the PC, but when I connect to the internet on the laptop no key is required, (so unsure a bit now) but I just wanted to make sure that the Talk Talk connection and the other one that is showing, is not somebody who can see all of the files on either my pc or laptop.
Just wanted some advice really, to make sure I dont have anybody viewing my files etc. Thank you in advance.

When i click "repair" it seems to hang at the point of acquiring my IP address.
Any ideas?

I live in a large house that has ethernet ports throughout the house. I need to have two separate wireless routers to insure I have wireless coverage. There will be one upstairs and one downstairs. Is there any advantages or disadvantages in naming both of the wireless networks with the same name?

Thank you for looking.

A:Solved: Naming a wireless network using two wireless routers

I wouldn't use two SOHO wireless routers for this.

The better way is to use APs from companies like Aruba Networks, Ubiquiti, or Meraki. These companies have APs which allow them to operate as one unified wireless network without the expense of purchasing a wireless controller. By doing this, you have the ability to add APs anytime you want which will join the AP cluster and operate as a unified device with the cluster. It allows the ability to have the APs being aware of each other and as a result adjust their output transmissions so they won't be stomping on each other running full blast. It allows you to use one or more SSIDs which all the APs will service and hence more seamless roaming throughout your house; without issues inherent with using independent APs or with SOHO wireless routers configured to use the same SSID. These systems also have the ability to constantly auto select operating channels in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands so your wireless network is always operating at the best efficiency/performance.

I was trying to tripple boot w/ Windows 7, win xp and ubuntu. i already had windows 7 and ubuntu on the computer, but when i installed win xp, windows 7 wouldnt boot. ive tried grub, using the bootrec.exe /fixboot and /fixmbr commands, but cant get it to load. When i load up the windows 7 install disk, it finds the windows 7 installation, but says its on an unknown disk. i can only assume that the windows xp installation kicked windows 7 off of the c: drive, and now windows 7 is floating around in oblivion.

any thoughts on how i can get it to boot?
Other potentially helpful info:

i can see the partitions info in ubuntu, but since linux dosent use a drive scheme, i kinda expected that.

i can see the drive in win xp's disk management, but i cant give it a drive letter

A:Solved: Windows 7 was kicked off of the C: drive by Win XP

ok, so i managed to get it working. i had to use the paragon partition manager to make the partition unhidden and active.(not quite sure how that happened, perhaps a side effect of the win 7 startup repair?)

once i did that, i went into the boot.ini file and pointed it to the correct partition, then reran the win 7 startup repair. it seems to have fixed it.

First of all, THANKS for looking! Here's my quandry:

My wireless router is in the living room. My printer (which is networkable but not wireless) is in the study. How can I print from a laptop that is on the network wirelessly to that printer? (without walking the laptop over to the printer and using the USB cable)

I was thinking of adding another wireless router over by the printer and plugging the network cable into the router and printer. The router would not have any other network connection (wired) and set the router as an access point only.

Would that work? Probably not but figured it was worth a shot!

Thanks again for your help.

This concerns my mother's 2-year-old Toshiba laptop. My mother says that sometimes she is suddeny thrown out of her computer - when she is on the internet, or reading her e-mails etc.- whatever she is doing is interrupted without warning by a Windows Update screen telling her to wait and that Windows Update is updating her computer. Then the computer shuts down/reboots. And my mother has to start anew with whatever she was doing. Is this a Windows Update setting thing? My mother says that she has had this problem from the very start (she thinks so at least).

A:Solved: Windows Update problem: user is kicked out of system during installation

Update: okay, I checked my mother's laptop myself. It seems that there is a Windows Update feature my own laptop doesn't have: after downloading the updates, a nagging Windows Update box with a sort of timer/countdown function appears, asking whether the computer should be restarted, or the installation of the updates postponed. If neither of these options are chosen, then it will reboot automatically in 5 minutes. So...how do I get rid of that pesky box?

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together
From a John Will Post

http://library.techguy.org/wiki/Connecting_two_SOHO_broadband_routers_together

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

For reference, here's a link to a Typical example config using a Netgear router

I have one computer with broadband and a router (Linksys broadband with phone ports) for my VoIP phone. I wonder if it is possible to create a wireless network with an old Mac (circa 1995). What hardware would I need for both computers? How expensive would this be? Would there be interference with my VoIP? (I have no problem using the phone when I'm also on the Internet.)

A:Solved: Can this be done?--wireless network with old Mac

It's really going to depend on the MAC. I suspect you can use a wireless access point, since it'll have the connection logic embedded. A wireless adapter is unlikely to run with most 1995 vintage Mac's I would imagine.

The other laptop and our wii are not having any problems, just my laptop. The connection keeps going in and out throughout the day even when it is reporting full strength. Websites will fail to load, so I keep clicking on them until they do. When it gets too bad I will go unplug the router to reset it and that fixes the problem for a few hours. Occasionally it will show limited connectivity but it doesnt even last long enough to run the diagnostic to tell what the problem is. It has to be something with the computer. Settings maybe? IP address? I have the free Norton trial for anti virus right now (laptop is only a few months old). HELP!!

I have a moden that is both a modem and a ethernet/wireless router. My desktop is connected to it via ethernet and my laptop via wireless. When I try to make a LAN which contains both computers, it doesn't recognize the laptop and when I try to make a wireless network, it doesn't recognize the desktop. I would like to know how to make a network that incoperates both computers.

After installing everything, the internet works perfectly on my desktop but the connection keeps disconnecting and reconnecting and disconnecting etc for my laptop. I don't know what's causing this problem and how to solve it so please help. When i click repair in the "Local area network properties", it says it "cannot renew IP address". SO im guessing it has somehting to do with the IP address.

A:Solved: Setting up Wireless Network

Well, you want to manually assign a WEP key, and you need to make it match the one in the router. I'd simply disable encryption until you get connected, then enable it and enter matching keys in the router and the client. Also, use the hex key option, don't use pass-phrases to generate the keys.

Hi, I just got a brand new lap top with windows 7. For some reason it can't seem to pick up my wireless network. It's equipped with the Intel wifi link 5300 AGN.

My wireless router is a Linksys Wireless-G (WRT54G) V8.

It's really annoying to have it prompt me saying "no networks available" when my old laptop and ps3 pick up my signal just fine.

Any advice as to how i can correct this?

Hi I hope you guys can help me.

Wireless Equipment

D-link DIR-655 router set to only N
Old Netgear Router used as access point set to only G (I set up as an access point by turning off DHCP, changing the IP adresss and set to only G.)
Wireless Printer (only G Capable)
Cell Phone (only G Capable)
2 Laptops (both N capable)
iPad (N Capable)
Roku Media Box (N capable)

Problem

If I put the router and access point on the same SSID then equipment that is N capable will connect to the G network.

If I use two different SSIDís then the printer is unreachable.

Is there a way of either (a) having two SSID's but allow the printer to be seen or (b) having one SSID, with separate access points for N and G but not allow N functioning client to connect to the G access point.

Hi all,

I'm having a recurring issue with my wireless network and would appreciate any help you can provide.

I connect to the web via a Belkin F5d7630-4a ADSL Modem with built in wireless router. The router is always on and I have a desktop PC connected via a wired connection.

When I first boot the laptop, it will generally find the wireless connection within a minute or so (although not always). If the laptop powers down, hibernates or sleeps, it sometimes reconnects, but generally can't. Once it's lost the connection, I generally need to reboot the laptop, sometimes two or three times to get it to find it again, even with the laptop sitting right next to the router.

I'm using WPA authentication and have hidden my SSID.

Can anyone suggest what I can do to resolve this, as it's driving me crazy.

Thanks.

Mike.

A:[SOLVED] how to protect a wireless network????

Hi Anne, welcome to TSF.

You need to be connected to your wireless router via ethernet cable.
Then you need to browse to it to access it's settings.

To find out it's address, go to Start > Run and type cmd. Press OK.
Type: ipconfig and then hit enter.

A list will show. Look for Default Gateway and it should have an address of 192.168.*.1 (the star being a number).

Open up Internet Explorer and then type in the Default Gateway into the Address Bar.

Your router settings interface should load. Remember this address for the next time you want to access router settings.

Next, find the Wireless Settings. Choose a name for your network and enter it into the SSID.

If there is an option to HIDE your SSID or not to Broadcast it, you should choose this option later, once you have connected all wireless devices to the network. This is added security as no one else will be able to see your network.

Find the Encryption Settings. DO NOT CHOOSE WEP
As a minimum choose TKIP, unless you know that your computer wireless card can support higher, such as AES. (Windows XP's built in WiFi Utiltiy only supports up to TKIP)

Choose an authentication of WPA-PSK if asked. This is the safer option for compatibility reasons.

Now it's time to choose a password. Make it a word you will remember. Make it long (between 8 and 63 is the limits with WPA-PSK). Replace letters with numbers. (1=I, 4=A 5=S etc etc.)

For example, if you're password was password: Use Pa55w0rd. A strong password always consists of letters and numbers.

Now you should be read to apply these settings. You will need to configure your wireless device to connect with the network, which means changing it's encrytpion to see TKIP and entering the authentication type and the new password.

I've been brief, but I hope this helps. Remember, once you have connected you laptop, hide your network.

Joe;It has been my experience that your signal strength can vary from room to room. When I had my laptop connected via wireless connection in one room,my connection strength was weak.I moved it into another room about 20 feet closer to the router, and the signal strength is now consistently excellent.
The other thing you could try,if possible change the channel you are using to communicate wirelessly. This is normally done from the router's admin /setup page.

Hi. I have a Netgear WGR614v9 and am using Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility. I have my security settings setup using WPA2-Personal (AES-CCMP) with a wireless security password using special characters and upper and lower case letters. I have also changed the default login password. At any given time I will have a laptop, home computer, iPod touch and X-Box connected. My internet provider (Clear) told me that for every connection I have, it will increase the last number of my ip address by 1 with my router being .1. My laptop used to be .2 but recently it changed to .5. I think this makes sense if all the other items are connected (router + 4 connections). Right now, the only connections are my laptop and iPod but my computer is still .5. Does this mean that someone else is using my connection or once my computer is .5, it will always be .5, no matter how many connections I'm currently using?

A:Solved: Is my wireless network breached?

Your network is probably still safe, considering that some person has only speeded up the password crack by using many Nvidia graphics chips running in parallel. But a long complex passphrase should still foil that brute force attempt. I'd say a passphrase longer than 16 characters is good.. Internal ip addresses are probably assigned through the router's DHCP server, and each ip address is given a lease time. So, any particular computer will get to keep the same ip address for a period of time. With some routers, you can configure how long that time period is, but not all routers have that feature.

I have a Gateway MX-3701 laptop, and I just installed a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router into my home network. All other computers are working just fine; they instantly connect to the wireless network and all is well, except for this gateway laptop.

At boot, I try to connect to the network, and it just stalls, giving me the "Waiting for network..." message. It does this until the window goes away, in what I'm guessing is a timeout. After about 5-10 mins of the computer being on (it fluctuates randomly), I am able to connect to the network.

I just install the latest driver for the wi-fi card, and I'm not sure if I need to update the firmware on the router.

A:Solved: Control over my wireless network?

I found a sheet of FAQs that came with the router. i entered the default IP address in Mozilla and was greeted with a login box. I don't remember creating a login name or password. I remember creating an SSID and passphrase, but these do not work. What next?

Hi,
I have just installed a Tenda Mini 11 N Wireless USB Adapter model no. W311U onto my desktop XP Home Edition Service Pack 3. I used the CD that came with adapter for installation. I get the message 'not connected'. When I try the repair option I get Windows could not repair because it can't disable the network adapter.
I run Zone Alarm free version. Windows firewall is turned off. Any advice welcome please.

I have a friend who recently found that he has an issue with his wireless network. He is able to connect at home or work without any issues as long as his laptop is not plugged into the power source. As soon as he plugs into the power source, he no longer is able to get wireless network. He noticed the change after he did a presnation the other week for work. Since then he has has wireless network issues.

Any ideas what to even consider for this.

I have jokingly told him that if he wants to use the wireless, to make sure that the battery is fully charged, so that he doesn`t have to plug in the laptop.

Hello to all!

I hope someone can help me with this. I have a compaq presario 2500 running windows xp. I noticed that my signal strength for my wireless network was very low, right around 10 mbps, while my other laptop has strong signal, like my presario shoudl have. i tried to repair the network connection, and this is the message I received:

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: clearing the arp cache For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.

Where do i go from there? If anyone has a solution please let me know.
Thanks,

Matt

A:Solved: Wireless Network Hookup

Just follow the directions that come with the router to set it up. Make sure you enable the encryption, or you'll have the whole county hooking up to your system. The router is a firewall in itself but it's a good idea to run a software firewall, like ZoneAlarm or others.
You may want to ask a moderator to move this thread to the Security forum. I'm sure those folks can tell you all sorts of helpful hints and fix you up if any problems pop up.
