Connected to wireless network, but unable to access internet

Q: Connected to wireless network, but unable to access internet

Hi - My net book used to connect me to the internet automatically on my home wireless network. Suddenly it has decided not to. I have successfully input the WEP/WAP key and the netbook says it is connected, but when I try to open Internet explorer, it says- oops! Looks like your internet is down. I have not had any problems on my main PC?

What has happened and how do I fix it?http://b.tsgstatic.com/smilies/confused.gif

Thanks in anticipation

Preferred Solution: Connected to wireless network, but unable to access internet

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What's the exact make and model of the wireless router, and what version of Windows are you running?
Let's see this from the machine.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I'd like to see this as well.

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

A:connected to wireless network but still unable to access internet

Set the wireless to 'obtain IP auto' and 'obtain DNS auto.'

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect. If unsuccessful ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi As said No Network, Access Wireless But Connected to Internet I am connected to my Wireless Network but have no Internet access Connected to Wireless Network, But No Internet Access So far I have looked through the forums and done the following - unticked the ipv box - pulled any Firewalls down - disabled and re-enabled my network adaptors - tried the ipconfig release and renew - left my IP Address Connected to Wireless Network, But No Internet Access detection to Automatic This is because when I tried looking up my DNS on my desktop it was not in my Ipconfig page so I didn't know what to fill in on my laptop So when I filled in my IP address manually there was no DNS to fill in and this didn't work - disabled Bonjour - tried flushdns - According to the laptop my network adapter drivers are up to date There are two listed Atheros AR PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller and Intel R Wifi Link AGN I have not tried uninstalling these as I am concerned about doing damage to the laptop and I am not sure which I should uninstall My sincere apologies - I am not very good at IT I would really appreciate any help you guys could give I haven't made a screenshot of my ipconfig all yet but my IP address is xxx xx and my subnet mask is The Default Gateway field is empty I know that this means that my laptop isn't receiving the signal from the router but all the other computers in the house are running fine with no problems from the signal I have also restarted the router a few times Any help is greatly appreciated I upgraded from Vista

You may have the MAC address clone problem that everyone seems to be getting.

Try this> 1. Control Panel->device Manage->Network Adapter->Adv.->Network Address, put some values in the text box

Hey guys, I've been searching this forum and other resources for days now with no luck. I'm connected to our apartment's wireless network, but about a week ago I found the infamous yellow triangle and "No Internet Access." I was going along fine for about a month and this came out of nowhere.

I've tried every imaginable ipconfig command that has been suggested, including flushdns, ipreset, all the winsock commands, etc. I've tried resetting everything: modem, router, laptop... I've tried enabling/uninstalling my wireless adapter, changed my TCP/IPv4 settings, used trusted DNS settings, the whole 9 yards. I've renamed my computer, deleted the network profile, deleted my computers profile on the router, booted on safe mode, you get the picture.

I installed Xirrus from a flash drive, and I can post screenshots of any info that may be required, but any help is greatly appreciated!! Very difficult to be limited to an iPhone for all your Internet needs...

A:Connected to wireless network but no internet access

and welcome to the Forum

Have you restarted the pc?

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

Have you installed a fresh operating system, or are you going to deal with whatever was left on the machine?

You have what appears to be a good connection to a router. Try the following pings (in a Command prompt window).

ping 192.168.0.11 (or whatever your current IP address is)

ping 192.168.0.1

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do not "Fix" anything

If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, disable the UAC and run HijackThis again.

Use your working computer to download the program. Save it to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the faulty computer and save the program to your hard drive before installing it.

A:unable to access internet on wireless network

If you check the status of your WLAN you'll probably notice it's sending packets but not recieving them. If you have double and triple checked your network settings and firewall settings then....You may want to try simply restarting the router.... I've noticed some wireless routers (linksys in my case) would not take new wireless clients as willingly as i wanted them to. After kicking everyone off the network for a couple minutes my new wireless client was ready to go.
Give that a shot and if it doesn't work then I guess we are stuck with good ol fashion step by step troubleshooting.

Re:

I dunno maybe format it, or maybe reinstall the drivers. :giddy: :haha:
Did you try uninstalling ad-aware? (Lol I don't think it helps any to get it from a warez site *winks*)
It sounds a little like a trojan.
And I don't belive NAV is the best Anti-virus. (I dunno I just read something like that on a fourm. Lol.)
You might wanna try AVG.
Hope this helps

A:Connected to network, but no Internet access - can't access network properties

Appears you are on Vista ( Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001] )

and running from an Admin Login (ie Owner and other than maintenance, you should be using a Limited Account, eg: UAC but solve that latter)

Disconnect from the router
Goto Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections.
Right click on ?Local Area Connection? & click ?properties? option.

scroll and find the Internet Protocol V6
clear the [x] preceeding that line
click ok

get a command prompt (run->cmd) and enternetsh int ip reset
netsh interface ip delete arpcache
ipconfig /flushdns

Hi I don't know if this problem should be in this forum or the one for Vista as it involves computers- a desktop with XP and laptops with Vista Anyway on the desktop I tried to set up a network so that the laptops could be connected to the printer upstairs which 'Connected with network - [SOLVED] limited access' Wireless is attached to the desktop All of the computers involved were [SOLVED] Wireless network - 'Connected with limited access' already connected to the internet and fine So I first set [SOLVED] Wireless network - 'Connected with limited access' up a home network then thought it might not be right so set up a wireless network too by clicking the links shown below and following all the steps- and when I had to plug in a memory stick the desktop I did that then plugged it into the BT Home Hub then both the laptops then back to the desktop again So I thought wahoo all done Then when I went to my laptop I found it wasn't connected to the internet Instead it said something like 'Connected to BT HomeHub ' Excellent connection Connected with limited access' I found it was the same on the other laptop Both laptops now can't access the internet Note that when I followed the steps to set up a network on the desktop it was on an account that had it's internet access limited by the BT Yahoo Parental Controls where you have to sign in to access the internet I don't know if this is relevant So what I want to do now is scrap the whole 'home network' idea It was just going to be an added bonus but now it's stopped the internet access from both laptops it's still fine on the desktop Is there a way I can delete it or something or just remove the settings or w e I think I've mentioned everything Sorry if it's a bit lengthy I just tried to give an overall view- if you still need information please ask me for it

A:[SOLVED] Wireless network - 'Connected with limited access'

The fact that you were on a limited account may be the problem. I don't know anything about Vista, but I'd try setting up the network connections when you're in a full access account.

I did this because I got
- You have not chosen to connect to any of the available wireless networks,
- No preferred wirless networks -
This is untrue - I have ticked the box but each time I turn on the pc it will not connect automatically and I have to do it manually. I have asked it to solve the problem, which it says it does but after the shut down and restart it is unconnected again.

A warning in advance this is going to be a fairly long post I don't know a ton about troubleshooting but I'm not computer illiterate and I've tried quite an array of tests while trying to fix things on my own First of all my laptop is an HP Presario V GB AV I'm running windows I upgraded from vista last october I had problems once back in january with being unable to download windows updates At the time I found something suggesting that this could be due to a corrupted download and so I reinstalled win and everything worked fine Now about weeks ago I started up my laptop and although it showed up as being connected under network connections none of my applications which require the internet Internet shows to Internet connected but access unable work Edit I know that the problem isn't my ISP or the network I'm on since both the computer I'm currently using to post this my parent's desktop and my laptop connect to the same network And no were not using a router we can only have computer connected at a time We simply unplug the ethernet cable from one computer and put it into the other I've looked at my ipconfig settings and everything looks fine I even tried ipconfig release and ipconfig renew as well as ipconfig dnsflush just to be safe No luck with any of that Then I went and looked at the system logs and found that ever since about november of last year there have been intermittent problems with the BITS Internet shows connected but unable to access Internet service not starting More recently BITS has not been starting and Internet shows connected but unable to access Internet I've been getting error messages that server long number string if you'd like me to post it I can did not register with DCOM within the required timeout I tried reinstalling win since it fixed my problem before but no luck this time Since then I've been trying to make sure that all my drivers are up to date as several posts about intermittant note Internet shows connected but unable to access Internet my problem is constant not intermittent internet connectivity issues seemed to lead back to drivers needing updates However as far as I can tell all my device drivers are up to date I downloaded some diagnostic tools I ran HotCPUTesterLite through its diagnostic test hours twice and it didn't turn up any hardware errors One of the tools I downloaded pointed out that my bios was rather old so I updated that most recent version was for december I can't figure out what is causing my problem unless it is windows itself If anyone can shed some light here I'd greatly appreciate it or it looks like I may have to revert back to vista till microsoft gets things fixed

A:Internet shows connected but unable to access Internet

no ideas? I'm just about ready to give up and try doing a factory reset back to vista and hope that fixes things.

Edit: Just found out additional info about my network adapter, apparently theres been no downloads for it on the intel download center for OS's after win XP. But on a different page it said that there is "in box support" for it. Would this mean that the appropriate driver was included in my win 7 install, or that my adapter is outdated for win 7 and that is causing my problem? For Reference my computer is less than 3 years old and came initially installed with vista on it. My adapter is the Intel(R) Pro 100/VE Network Connection.

I hope someone can help - I am trying to clean up our babysitters computer that had many virus' and not virus protection. I have installed AVG 8.5 and cleaned up what it could since I can not update the software since I have no internet connectivity. I have also run a registry cleaner and looked over the HijackThis log. My wireless connection says it is connected and my other computers are connecting just fine. This is a Gatweay computer connecting to Qwest DSL and using a linksys wireless card. If anyone has any suggestions on what else I can do to fix the connection issue, that would be great. Thanks!

A:Wireless Connected but no internet access

IMO...any system that is highly infected...is likely to have key files damaged by either the malware or the removal attempts of malware.

A clean install would be the only solution that would ensure the integrity of the system.

Hi guys,

I'm having a problem with my parent's laptop. The computer says it is connected (wireless) but I cannot access internet, ping any websites, or even the router. Other laptops are working on the wireless network. The laptop will work wired but not wireless. It had been working prviously then about 2 weeks ago it stopped. The first time I release and renewed the IP the connection came back, but went later that same day again and since then it won't connect.

I have taken it to other wireless networks and it works fine on those. The network at my parents house is unsecured so it's not a password problem.

The laptop is a dell inspiron 6000, wireless card is intel pro 2200 bg, and the router is a belkin wireless g.

If anybody has any input help, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I have a problem with my netgear wireless router. It shows that I am connected wireless but it also says I have no internet access. I have tried rebooting the router, modem and laptop but that does not helped.

Now I tried connecting using my local area network and it says my network adapter is unplugged. I thought the cable my be defective but it works when I try it with my work laptop. It worked a couple of day ago with my home laptop but now it doesn't work. I also tried a brand new cable but it doesn't work either.

So now not only can I not connect wirelessly but I also can't connect using local area network. HELP!

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Sometimes refreshing your wireless connections helps. This is done my removing all the wireless profiles stored in your computer then try connecting to that particular SSID (wireless network) type in the correct security key.

A:Wireless Network connected but no Internet

Hi there...

1st..this post should be in the Networking category, for better assistance.

2nd..Are you able to connect to the router/modem via ethernet cable?

3rd...Can any other computers to that modem/router via wireless (if applicable)?

4th...If "yes" to the 3rd, were any hardware changes/software updates/installations/downloads etc done prior to not being able to connect via wireless?

(You may also want to make sure that Windows OR a third party wireless utility is used to manage the wireless connection, but not BOTH. That will cause conflicts and the inability to browse the internet even though "connected.")

In the wireless network connection window, the status line reads Acquiring network address. Please help!

I am posting this from my laptop with an ethernet cord plugged in directly to the router. It's not the router's fault because other computers/laptops in the house can connect and use the internet.

I have a Linksys router Model no. WCG200v2-CC

I have an apple airport base station which I run my comcast cable internet through. I have been using it with my ibook for quite sometime with no problems. I installed a belkin wirless card in my PC and connected to my network, "Homenetwork" and began using the internet, only it would only hold a connection for about five minutes and then drop me, but while the connection was there it registered as "excellent" I talked to someone at the GeekSquad and they told me to uninstall and reinstall my network card software. I am not extremely computer savvy, so I messed around with it a little bit, and I got an "excellent" connection back on my PC and it doesn't drop me anymore, but I cannot access the internet. So, I have a wireless connection, but no internet. Any insight into this would be awesome! Thanks

A:Wireless Network Connected, No Internet

If your wireless network is protected by a passkey, make sure you have entered the passkey correctly. Tjat is one issue that could make the internet not accessible to you. The ping ctility will only help you test connectivity, not to fix any connectivity problems, so don't bother about that. also check if all others have used static addressing, meaning whether they manually typed in IP addresses into their systems, if so, do the same but make sure the only difference in the numbers you use is in the last number. Use a number different from others there but not greater than 255.

If after these, you still have problems, check the full IP address used by a asystem and manually type in your own IP address in the manner I have specified above.

Hope this will help.

My Fujitsu laptop can connect to my wireless home network (dlink xtreme n gigabit router), but I can't get on the Internet. It is running Windows XP.

It has an Intersil PRISM Wireless LAN PCI Card, driver version 1.7.296.0, driver date 2/6/2002.

I also tried to connect by Ethernet cable, but it still does not work. The computer has a 1394 Net Adapter, driver version 5.1.2535.0, driver date 7/1/2001.

Is there anything I can do to fix? or is this a hardware problem? if so, what do I need to replace?

Hi . After a power outage almost 2 weeks ago when I turned on my laptop the network was stuck on acquiring network address I called my provider but they were unable to fix my problem after doing some reading I decided I would try configuring the tcp/ip properties myself which I did by taking the subnet mask, default gateway and dns server used by my iPhone to connect to the house wifi and then assigning an ip address that wasn't in use and to my surprise the wireless connection then said it was connected so then I tried going online but couldn't go on any web page. Obtaining ip address automatically makes it get stuck on acquiring address and me attempting to do it manually didn't help either so now I'm stumped my phone and other laptop still connects perfectly but I just can't get this one to

I have been searching everywhere for a solution to this. 9 times out of 10, none of my web browsers will be able to load anything on my laptop. skype works fine, steam works fine, i can still play MMOs, and update my antivirus and malware programs, but none of my browsers will do anything, and every other device in the house can browse web pages fine.

I have tried flushing the DNS, ive tried resetlog.txt, deleting and remaking all my internet connections, running full virus and malware scans, doing system restores to back before the problem started. But still the only two things that have worked so far are running in safe mode with networking, or just turning it off and on again god knows how many times until i get lucky.

Hello and Welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you tried unplugging the network cable from the router's ethernet port then move it to another one?

Can you post an ipconfig /all output for review?

Also, try running the Network Troubleshooter tool from your Windows 7 computer.
Using the Network troubleshooter in Windows 7

A:connected to the network but NO internet access

Can you see the Local network?.

Do you get an ip address from the Router?.
Open command prompt, (click start, Type cmd in the search box and press enter)
then type ipconfig and press enter. Scroll up, Let me know what is says your IP address is, along with Default Gateway.

DOes the Network card show "limited Or no connectivity"?.
Did you type the security code correctly?.
Last but not least, What is your wireless routers Encryption set to? WPA? etc etc.

Let me know the above information, this will help diagnosie whats wrong.

Hi! I have a wireless router with three wireless computers on it. Additionally, I have two wired computers. I can't get my Compaq w/Vista to access the web using IE8 or Firefox. However, my AV (Norton) can run live update easily. I have great internet connectivity, but can show pages. With IE, I get the "can't display this page" or something similar. I click to diagnose the connection and it says that it's fine. I did the following so far:
1. disconnected the modem and router and reconnected.
2. ensured that the firewall was allowing the programs through (and turned it off for awhile).
3. Checked the network adapter to ensure that it was automatically assigning DNS and the other box.
4. I downloaded the setups for IE8 and firefox and reinstalled them.
5. went to LAN properties for the connection and it's active.

Help?
Thanks!

Hi Thoran35, welcome to sevenforums. Can you connect to your routers setup page? Normally the address is something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1..something like that. It should be available in the manufacturers manual.

Hi I have just bought a new HP Pavilion PC for my parents and have been trying to get it networked The situation is that they have offices at opposite ends of the house with the broadband in one office I installed a Belkin Universal Repeater pain the neck to setup in between the offices to extend the wireless range to the second office The network signal in the second office strong five bars and I have no problems connecting with my laptop running Vista However the new PC which has a wirelesss card in can get on the network consistently and the connection is never dropped BUT the internet access is intermittent at best works maybe five minutes out of every I cannot access the router admin page when the internet connection is lost but I can still see all the other devices on the network I have tried disabling IPv as per a number of forum suggestions but this didn't help Any suggestions greatly appreciated Update Ok so now for some reason I have full internet access nothing has been changed BUT I can no longer see any network access Connected but no network, to internet devices I can access the router admin page from where I can see that for somre reason the router thinks the Belkin repeater i e the repeater's mac address is my new PC - the IP address for the PC is The IP address for the repeater is yet in Connected to network, but no internet access the router admin page it says that the PC is offline and the router going by its mac address is online but has the PCs IP address Even stranger I can access the wireless printer sitting next to the new PC from the other office i e through the repeater but yet I cannot see it from the new PC sitting right next to it

A:Connected to network, but no internet access

Welcome to seven Forums!

Is there a PC connected to the repeater's ethernet port or is it stand alone? I looked at the manual a spotted a few items you might want to look at.

First take a look at IP addressing. Are all PC's using DHCP from the router? Did you at any time get a "duplicate IP" warning on any of them?

The mac address showing up weird is not all that unusual if something has connected to the repeaters' ethernet port. It could take on the MAC address of the attached device. It varies by manufacturer so it may be normal for that particular device.

The other items to look at are "Protected Mode", "Repeater Mode" and "54g-LRS".

How are these configured?

Remove all firewalls, and security. Let it then use the regular Windows firewall. Than add back in your security.

The title says it all really, my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop is connected to my wireless but hasnt been able to access internet.

I have seen many cases similar to mine, where people have been able to connect to the network, through either wireless or LAN cable but the internet doesnt work. However, i have not come across a single definite solution to this issue.

I have tried all the possible solutions that i came across various forums but none of them have seemed to work. Iam currently using my other laptop which works fine.

I would really appreciate some help regarding this matter since this forum showed most promise.

Thanks

A:Connected to network but no internet access?

Welcome to Seven Forums Terryl!

There are no stupid questions here! I'm wondering if you might be having a problem with your driver.

If you open the start menu by clicking the button and type "device manager" without the quotation marks then press enter, the Device Manager window should open and a list of object categories should be displayed in a list. Look through the list to be sure none have red X's or Yellow Triangles over their icon. It would likely be under the heading Network Adapters. Please include in your reply anything marked with one of these symbols.

Do you have a Petty good idea of when it started occurring (the most recent time, NOT before the restore point you used)?

You also say that :

Quote:
I am able to connect to pretty much any website when I open my browser.

Can you clarify the Pretty much part? Does it seem to be working like normal or is there a definite change where it intermittently does not connect "More Than Usual?"

Thanks,
Mike

I've set up a wired/wireless network in my apt and after several days of operating without difficulty, the laptop (which is connected wirelessly) now can no longer access webpages. My desktop is wired into the router and has not had any difficulties. I'm using an AirLink 101 802.11g router and a Motorola SB5100 Surfboard modem. The laptop is logged in to the network and I've tried power cycling both the modem and the router and disabled the security on the network. Are there any other basic troubleshooting things I can or should I just get some professional help?

Hi about a week ago I started getting the problem where my laptop would connect to the network but there would be no internet access I tried many of the suggestions that I found online like flushing the dns and resetting the tcp ip but none of them but network, access Connected to no internet seemed to work The only thing that I have been able to get to work is doing a system restore to the day before it began to happen However the next day when i swich on my laptop again I have the same problem so I have to restore again Obviously doing a system restore everytime i want to use my laptop isn't ideal I can't figure out what is doing this At first I thought it was a windows update but I disabled all updates after one of my restores and it did not make any difference I also have mcafee installed and disabled anything within that that I thought could have been an issue As far as I can see I have not changed or installed anything after the system restores that would cause this problem to arise each time I start up my laptop Any help is very much appreciated edit Connected to network, but no internet access - Just thought I should point out that the wireless router I am trying to connect to works fine with everything else so it is definitely an issue with this laptop

A:Connected to network, but no internet access

Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Just as a test, please consider uninstalling mcafee and installing Microsoft Security Essentials in its place. Even if this does not fix the issue, maybe you could leave it in place for the duration of the troubleshooting. After you solve this connectivity problem, you can go back to mcafee if you must.

You mentioned that the problem happens again the next day:

1) Does it happen if you just reboot or does it have to be off over night?

2) Does it happen if you turn off the laptop, leave it off for 5 minutes and then turn it back on?

3) And what happens if you set the laptop to stay awake and left it on all weekend?

Hey guys I ve been going though quite a few of your threads seeing if solutions given to people with similar problems would work but i haven t had any luck so I decided my own thread would be the best choice especially since I m just seeing the same ideas over and over So here s my situation I recently moved in with someone else who already had a PC Since my bedroom didn t have but access network, to internet. can't Connected cable on it my PC was off the internet for about months mostly waiting for the cable company to come and install the cable in there Well finally Connected to network, but can't access internet. the cable guys come and they set up the connection The modem says it s connected the computer itself says it s connected but no program Firefox IE various auto-updaters can access the internet The Connected to network, but can't access internet. cable guys suggested that it could be my Avast anti-virus the default McAfee was removed long ago So I uninstalled that with no result I then began looking for similar problems on here and other forums I can ping my IP fine and I can ping my gateway fine but I can t ping any external IP with host name or IP address Windows firewall was turned off and I even made a specific exception for IE on the firewall this did nothing I tried fixing the winsock entry to no avail oh yeah I was running XP with Serv Pack so I tried the auto-fix for this and the manual way So I became desperate and thinking it was a corrupted program registry key whatever I completely re-formatted my computer thinking it would reset any problem Nope After re-formatting I still have the exact same problem I immediately used my laptop and a flash drive to get the McAfee removal tool but after using it it did not help at all So I know now that it was not any anti-virus program registry key or windows update Before and after the re-format it said the network adapter was working properly so i never explored that route but everything seems fine there So I m running XP with no updates and no anti-virus programs on the affected computer Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks nbsp

I just moved in to a new house that already had their wireless network set up. I am on a laptop running Vista. When I try to connect, it says " Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual" It finally will connect however it says "You are connected to <network name> but cannot access the internet." I tried to repair and run the diagnostic tests but nothing is working. Any ideas?

A:You are connected to <network name> but cannot access the internet.

Changes that may help to increase the compatibility of Vista with older networking devices:

Disable the IP Helper service:

1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties
3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply"
4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
5. Click OK to exit the dialog

Disable IPv6:

1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties"
3. Remove the checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
4. Click OK to exit the dialog

NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:

Link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233

Hold the Windows key and type R, enter regedit and press Enter.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}
In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey to be updated.
If the key DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag does not exist, use the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then press ENTER. If the key exists, skip this step.
Right-click DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
Close Registry Editor.
NOTE: You should do this for each and every GUID subkey.
NOTE2: (GUID) is a mnemonic for the individual subkeys, the actual text "GUID" does not appaer.

The only program I'm aware of that currently relies on IPv6 is the new Windows Meeting Space. The first 2 changes will cause that program not to work - but will leave all of your normal (IPv4) connections unaffected. If it causes problems that you can't overcome, simply revert back to the original settings.

A:Connected to wireless, no internet access on any laptops

Welcome to the forum!

No restore point?

Personally, I would crash everything. Uninstall the adapters (LAN and wireless), delete drivers if an option, run CCleaner twice, reboot.

I'm a bit crazy though. Not responsible if it goes wrong.

I deleted registry items today to get my SiliconDust wireless TV streaming box to work right after they released new firmware and a totally different app to watch real time.

Oh, have you run sfc /scannow?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. When I am connected to my wireless router at home I have full internet access and no problems at all. However, whenever I go to a friend's house, I can connect to my wireless but I can not browse the internet, ie. using Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Windows Live Messenger. I have tried resetting the winsock and the ipconfig. I also could not ping any websites at all. Nothing works! Also, I am currently on my cousin's laptop as I am at her house and can not access the internet on my own laptop, therefore I can not copy the results of command prompt ipconfig/all.

A:Wireless connected, no internet access. Please read.

Oh, forgot to mention that this happens at ALL of my friend's houses, my cousin's houses, etc.

Like the title says, I'm connected to my wireless network but have no access to the internet. I've already tried TCP\IP repair with no avail. Any ideas???

A:Solved: Connected to wireless but no internet access

do you ahve a firewall blocking access

post an ipconfig /all here - copy onto the machine thats working if possible

ipconfig /all

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

A:Connected via wireless connection but no access to the internet?

Why not use dynamic addresses? Anyhow, when using static you have to get the computer on the same subnet as the router--at least one of 192.,168.3.3 and 192.168.1.1 is incorrect.

Unless you are using ipv6 suggest you uninstall it:
Start - Run - ipv6 uninstall - OK

Can you get the exact results of another ipconfig /all to the working PC? Maybe by saving a Notepad text file to CD or flash drive or floppy.

I want you to run all tools listed below in normal mode.  Download Security Check from here or here and save it to your Desktop. Double-click SecurityCheck.exe Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.NOTE 1. If one of your security applications (e.g., third-party firewall) requests permission to allow DIG.EXE access the Internet, allow it to do so.NOTE 2 SecurityCheck may produce some false warning(s), so leave the results reading to me. Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and run it on the computer with the issue.Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet ServicesWindows FirewallSystem RestoreSecurity Center/Action CenterWindows UpdateWindows DefenderOther ServicesPress "Scan".It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste the log to your reply. Please download MiniToolBox and run it.Checkmark following boxes:Report IE Proxy SettingsReport FF Proxy SettingsList content of HostsList IP configurationList Winsock EntriesList last 10 Event Viewer logList Installed ProgramsList Devices (do NOT change any settings here)List Users, Partitions and Memory sizeClick Go and post the result. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.* Post the log back here.Be sure to restart the computer. The log can also be found here:C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txtOr at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txtDownload Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from HERE to your Desktop.Unzip downloaded file.Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exeFollow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.DO NOT click on the Cleanup button. Simply exit the program. When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log-xxxxx.txt and system-log.txt Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop. There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.Do not reboot until instructed. If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode. When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.Post it in your next reply.NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.
