Solved: Vista showing my normail wireless SSID, plus showing second unidentified netw

Q: Solved: Vista showing my normail wireless SSID, plus showing second unidentified netw

Hi, my computer is a dell dimension 1100, with a Linksys WMP54G wifi card, running vista home basic.

So, In the wifi thing in the notification area, it shows two wireless networks, One is my normal SSID (Lower Net), and one is "Unidentified network". They are both on one wireless connection (Wireless Network Connection 3). When i try to go on the internet, it says i'm not connected. i tried disconnecting from the unidentified network, but that disconnects me from lower net too. Thanks For Any Help In Advance!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently upgraded a relatives Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop from Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit! To Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. Previously this was connected wireless to a netgear router. On upgrading the OS i have found that the previous network is no longer showing up in the list of avalible networks even though a number of other devices can still connect and see the broacast of the SSID. As other networks are showing up and the laptop can succesfully connect to others I dont see this as being a driver issue. I have checked the router configuration for broadcast of SSID and MAC filtering. My next step will be to connect the router and laptop via ethernet. Any ideas why this would be happening?

Hi - after my repair install of windows 7 sp1, under my Device Manager>network adapters>its says the name of the hardware then has a (2) beside it.

Does that effect any normal network operations or should I download the latest network driver for my mobo from ASUS.

I'm having troubles connecting to the net. First computer works okay, it runs on Windows 7, though my main computer is running Vista. I tried system restore didn't work then reinstalled Vista. I connected the cable that works on the Windows 7 pc to the Vista pc to make sure it wasn't a cable issue and it still doesn't appear on the modem. The network adapter appears ok in device manager and I've tried uninstalling the driver then reinstalling it. I'm not sure what else I can try. Thanks in advance

I own a Canon Powershot A I have many older AVI videos stored on my computer some camcorder some older camera all re-edited then stored on pc I wish to use this camera as a way to easily view these videos on my parents TV using video cable from camera to TV at files up on Unidentified Image AVI camera when showing viewed I took out my camera SD card inserted in media reader on my pc then transferred an avi video to that card I re-inserted card into camera When trying to view video I AVI files showing up at Unidentified Image when viewed on camera receive AVI files showing up at Unidentified Image when viewed on camera quot unidentified image quot error message is this because video wasn t created on this camera so there is no accompanied THM file if so can this thm file be re-created from the avi file I downloaded a pgm called quot video thumbnails maker quot using this I created a thumbnail of one of these avi files then moved both files to the camera-same error msg I also copied one of the thm files created on the camera when shooting a video then re-naming it to match the incoming avi-didn t work either Any advice Thanks nbsp

A:AVI files showing up at Unidentified Image when viewed on camera

The AVI format causes much confusion because it doesn't actually specify the video file-format, AVI is just a container format, the actual content inside it can be one of several different types. Combine this with the fact that videos (in any format) obtained from elsewhere won't be compatible with the Powershot camera anyway and that explains why they won't play on your camera. A simple thing like the aspect ratio being different than what the camera produces would make it incompatible.

The same problem can occur with still pictures too. Sometimes, after editing jpeg photos on your PC that were taken on your camera, the camera will not accept them.

A:Solved: Router is on but wireless network is not showing up

Some routers have a bug that they will give the same IP address to a device (e.g., your Xbox) that is on a bridged connection as the computer with the bridge. The reason for the bug is that when the Xbox requests an IP address the router has available the MAC Address of the computer and the Xbox, but uses only the one for the computer. Thus, with this bug the Dhcp reservation you tried (is a good idea but) will not work either. You have to assign a static IP configuration on the Xbox. First you can try a firmware update for the router (and then reset it to factory defaults) to see if that will fix the problem.

Of course, the above is all academic if we can't get the router working again. Start simple--just unplug the router for a minute or two. If that doesn't work try unplugging it for two or three hours. If still not working reset it to factory default settings. If the wireless is still not working after that it is time to replace the router.

I have a pesky neighbor a newly moved-back-home relative long story who continually wants to piggyback off my connection and I am trying to prevent that without having to be very rude about as Network" SSID broadcast up "Other Disabled showing it He has Windows so do we and I've gone ahead and disabled the SSID broadcast from my router altogether assuming that when he looks for my connection it won't be found I was then simply going to tell him that we have unsubscribed from WiFi and are now only using Ethernet instead of having to tell him quot oh Disabled SSID broadcast showing up as "Other Network" we've changed the password and don't want to give it to you quot But it seems that even when SSID broadcasting is disabled our network shows up as quot Other Network quot with full signal to him and on my Windows laptop So it is quite obvious to him that we've simply changed the SSID and password not that our wireless capabilities have been discontinued Why does a disabled SSID still show as quot Other Network quot in the list of available connections on Windows Doesn't this defeat the entire purpose of disabling the SSID broadcast

A:Disabled SSID broadcast showing up as "Other Network"

I think maybe you should have used a password on your WLAN to begin with. Once your SSID was used by your neighbor it stayed in his list of managed wireless networks so even if you turned off the SSID he can still see you there. Simply change or add a password using WPA2 which is best.

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 9400 running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2) is encountering a problem with connecting to the internet through a wireless router (Linksys WRT54GR). Vista claims my network is unidentified and disconnecting and reconnecting will not change its mind.

This problem occurs when I first log in to Windows and can last anywhere from hours to days. Then suddenly I will try to connect (no reboots or changes made of any kind) and it works as though nothing was ever wrong.

I have both McAfee and AVG running, but disabling the firewalls seems to change nothing.

Today I captured the IPConfig info and a Xirrus screencap both during the problem and after it had resolved itself.
Can anyone can shed any light on what might be occurring?

not advisabkle to have both running and they can cause connection issues - so i would uninstall both with the removal tools and see if that helps - then put ONE back on - or an alternative - see below

i'm not an expert here - but if you look through the security forum, you will see a lot of recommendations for windows 7

The windows 7 firewall is considered adequate and especially if you are connected behind a router.
Have a read in our "general security" forum and look for the advice from our security gurus.

Several excellent free antivirus programs are available (But you should only ever have 1 on the PC at a time otherwise this can cause issues ).

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) I personally use and install in the computers that I work on.

Avast

AntiVir

EST Nod 32 also gets a lot of very good reviews although it is not free
ESET NOD32
http://www.eset.com/home/

these Two programs are also recommended to be on the PC and can be on with any of the above antivirus programs.

I've been running Vista Ultimate a year and two months (one of the really early adopters) and have had problems but also seen corrections. For the most part I feel it is fairly stable.

I am having a problem I hope somebody can help me with. My recycle bin doesn't show that it has items to delete. It just shows an empty basket. When I go and check I see things in there so I delete them.

I have deleted the recycle (intentionally) and the went to Personalize on the desktop and chose to set all the defaults. It works for awhile and then it just goes back to showing as though there is nothing in it.

Has anyone else had this problem (I can't be that unique!) and found a way to correct it. Please post and let me know.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi,

I added a new account to my note book, and then removed it a day later, and now on the log in screen, I have two log in icons for my single account. Does anyone know how to get it back to just the single icon?

Also, in the list of accounts, in the User Accounts menu, it shows mine, an 'ASP.NET Machine Account', and a guest account. Is this ASP account supposed to be there? Because it doesn't show up on the log in screen, which only shows two icons for my one account.

Any help would be much appreciated!

A:[SOLVED] Vista User Account Icons Showing Double

Hello boon82

Is the extra login icon for the Account you deleted? If so did you delete it properly?
Right click Computer, select Properties, Select Advanced Settings, Select Settings under User Profiles. Select the user and press Delete.

'ASP.NET Machine Account',
It would have been installed with the .NET Framework, that you probably got from Windows Update.

Evening!

Have recently formatted my laptop and re installed Windows on my normal HDD because i have a small SSD since formatting my SSD and deleting and renewing the old partition, in windows explorer and disk management i can no longer see my SSD. I can see my SSD in Bios and in the Intel Rapid storage technology app, but cannot understand why i cannot use my SSD, Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Perry

A:SSD not showing in Disk Management, but showing on Intel Rapid Storage

Could we get some more information?

Does this laptop have 2 hard drive bays? Did it always have 2 hard drives?
What does "deleting and renewing the old partition" mean?

What I suspect is that the SSD has a partition that is still marked ACTIVE. Windows will boot from one Active partition and ignore the other. So if the SSD has just one partition that is marked active then the whole drive would be ignored.

If you deleted the partition in Disk Management or some 3rd party program then that would have taken care of the Active flag on that partition. But if you just deleted the contents of the partition that would have left the flag.

Let us know what you did.

EDIT: I should add: any partition that contained an operating system will have the active flag. This is not something you would have had to do yourself.

I am trying to remove empty folders using Remove Empty Directories. I know of a few that are empty, and just ran a test to see if RED would detect they were empty. Well, to my surprise, I am finding that RED shows 1 (or more) file in these folders (a JPG at 0.00 MB), but it's not showing up in the folder. Is there any way I can have these show up in folders so I can search for all JPG's and delete them? Example:

I do have "Show hidden files, folders and drives" checked under folder options as well.

A:File not showing up in folder, but showing up in Remove Empty Directori

Hi,

You could try running JPG Cleaner v2.6

I use this software on a regular basis. I'd suggest limiting it's use to only one problem folder on your machine as a test run.

Run the program with admin rights then from the GUI choose Add Folder then browse to your test folder. Additionally choose the option to delete Unknown Files and also untick the option to Create Backup Files.

Then choose Start and when the cleanup is completed there is an option to save a log file. Save the log file somewhere and have a look at it to view the results.

Additionally you could run the program again choosing the Delete Corrupt Files option.

If you're happy with the results - go ahead and add the other remaining folders or directories to be cleaned.

I've never encountered any problems using this software but as always before running any sort of cleaning product it's best to at least create a system restore point to fall back on and ideally have a system image backup handy.

I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.

Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

Here's what I mean in graphic form:

It's bugging me to no end. Anyone else had this problem/resolved it?

A:Toolbar on taskbar should only be showing an arrow but is showing icon

Hello thewonkits, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I notice this happens when using small icons for a toolbar. If you like, you could unlock the taskbar, right click on the dotted separator line to the left of the two top far left toolbars (one at a time) click on View and Large Icons, then lock the taskbar to see if that may look ok to you. It will make the top row a bit bigger though.

Hopefully someone may know a better way to hide that bit of icon poking out when locked.

I have a game in my pen drive that is splits second, my friend had given this pen drive to me, but windows explorer is showing that this drive is empty, i have checked it if it is hidden but still it's not showing after i had changed settings for hidden files, and i had checked the drive properties, it is showing that 3.07 GB free of 7.44 GB, please help me...

A:File folder is not showing in my pen drive, showing it is empty.

Hi,

The problem could be because all the data that was present inside the pen drive now have become system files by the virus. This is the reason why they are not visible even with the option “Show Hidden files and folders”.
To remove the problem this is what you need to do.
1. Go to Folder Options -> View tab
2. Make sure that your Show Hidden files and folders option is enabled.
3. Uncheck the option that reads “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)”

Now when you see your pen drive, you will find that your data is present there but in hidden form. There are 2 ways to unhide the data, either right click and uncheck the Hidden box or type in the following command in the command prompt
attrib filename –h –r –s
where filename is the complete location of the file.

Let me know if it solved your problem.

I have been searching for days to resolve this. I just bought a new laptop and cannot get online. It has no wireless card. I am wanting to connect my desktop and the laptop to my Linksys wrtp54g router for cable internet. The desktop Is working through the router just fine.

I have them both wired to the router but the laptop only shows "Unidenified Network, Limited or No Connectivity". The laptop did connect through the cable modem directly wired. The Laptop runs Windows Vista. When I type "ipconfig".. I see "Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address 169.254.172.55" How can this be when my routers IP is 192.168.5.1?

I have tried so many things to solve this with no answers. My girlfriend just wants to enjoy the internet on her new laptop and I can't fix it. Help is Greatly Appreciated!

A:Laptop thru router showing: "Unidentified Network"

Alright dude.
Your laptop is actually acquiring an invalid IP address that's why it could not surf.

Now this should do the trick.
Go to my computer, rightclick then select properties then go to device manager.
Under device manager, look for network adapters, click the plus sign to drop down and click or highlight the ethernet controller, it depends on the brand.
Select it and right click on it.
Now shoose uninstall.
don't worry dude, done this a bunch of times.
It'll remove the network adapter on your list.
Now still under device manager up on top, click action then scan for hardware changes
It'll automatically detect the network adapter you uninstalled and install it again.
check network adapter again just to be sure if you have installed it.

It will try to acquire again an IP address and yes you are right it should be starting with 192 not 168

This should fix the problem.

Hope this helps, goodluck

A:Wireless Adapter Not Showing

Hi, Adam: If the wireless adapter driver didn't install, there should be a device listed under an Other Devices category in the device manager described as a Network Controller. If you see such a device listed there, please post the hardware ID for the device so I can figure out what model wlan card your notebook has. To find the hardware ID, click on the Network Controller device in the device manager. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hi

I have a problem with connecting my laptop wirelessly to my router(network).

Basically when I do a search for available networks in windows XP it comes up with alot of networks apart from my one. I can connect via ethernet cable but not Wirelessly, the other thing is I have three other computers that can see and connect to my network wirelessly.

I have looked in the router settings and the laptop I want to connect with has been allowed full internet access, also the show SSID option has been activated.

This has really confused me as I have no idea why I cannot see the network as the router settings seem fine and I can see other wireless networks so I know my laptop is searching properly.

Any help would be really appreciated guys .

I think you are looking for how to manage wireless networks.

It's in a different place with Windows 8. It sounds like you just need to type in the SSID, security password, etc.

If the drivers are installed correctly you should be able to see other networks in your area.

This link shows you were to look. How to Manage Wireless Network Connections & Profiles in Windows 8 | 7 Tutorials

Have you checked in Device Manager under Network Adaptors to see if it shows up there with the driver installed?

Cell Phone (only G Capable)
2 Laptops (both N capable)
iPad (N Capable)
Roku Media Box (N capable)

Problem

If I put the router and access point on the same SSID then equipment that is N capable will connect to the G network.

If I use two different SSIDís then the printer is unreachable.

Is there a way of either (a) having two SSID's but allow the printer to be seen or (b) having one SSID, with separate access points for N and G but not allow N functioning client to connect to the G access point.

any other PCs working OK on your home wireless ?

can you run xirrus please and post a screen shot

its possible the router is on auto channel and may have changed to wireless channel 12 or 13 which is allowed across the world except for north america and if the equipment you have is set for the american market , you may not pickup that channel

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 that came with a built-in wireless card. I used it for two years with no problem connecting to any of the wireless connections around.

Recently, my screen was replaced due to cracks in the screen. When my computer was returned to me, I did not see the wireless option in the bottom of my screen. It didn't even show up. I tried to look for it all over my computer, but I don't know much about it. I did find in the control panel when I clicked on the Dell Wireless WYLAN card Utility, it said no adapters. Also, when I click on the Intel(R) PROSet for Wired Connections, it shows two network components:
Dell Wireless 1470 Dual Band WYLAN
and
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection

The Dell one has a red x next to it.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong??

Thanks!!

Hi: Did you install the W8 32 bit wireless and bluetooth drivers you need for the wireless/bluetooth combination card your notebook has? Unfortunately, there is no info online regarding what model wireless card your notebook has, so if you can post the hardware ID for the device you see listed in the device manager as a Network Controller, I will be able to provide the wireless and bluetooth drivers you need for it. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device listed as a Network Controller. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

A:wireless network adater not showing

Hey @Rajakar, I understand you are having you're having some trouble connecting your notebook to WiFi and I would like to help. Here is a list of steps that commonly resolve issues with wireless connectivity. First, we have a step by step guide to walk you through the troubleshooting process here: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection A second option, is to try these steps:Power cycle the network:1. Shut down your notebook.2. Unplug the power to your router.3. Unplug the power to your modem.4. Wait at least 45 seconds.5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)2. Expand the Network adapters.3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.4. Click the Power Management tab.5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.6. Click OK.7. Test.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.3. Expand Network adapters.4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.6. Restart your PC and test.Test an Ethernet connection:Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.Test another connection:Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network. If those three steps do not resolve the issue, try this document published by Microsoft for networking issues: Wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the drop-down in the upper-right corner of the document. The above steps are brought to you by @Great-Deku-Tree Hope this helps. If it does, please hit the Thumbs Up and Accept as Solution. Cheers,TechSurge.

I just got a new internet service and the default device name is ridiculously long and was trying to rename it to something simple. When I try to see my list of wireless networks all I get is small thumbnails. I have a picture to demonstrate what I am talking about. I don't know if my new modem made changes to my computer or a windows update broke something, whatever the reason, any help would be very much appreciated.

I have an HP Pavillion, here are the machine specs:

C:\Users\Sharpies~~\Desktop\Misc\System Information.html

I noticed that my iphone was not picking up my home wifi so I took a look and its gone! I fired up my laptop and wii and it is there on both. Once I did that, it showed up again on iphone, but not on my desktop.

In fact, NO wireless connections show up in my networks and typically there are approximately 20 in my neighborhood of condos.

I do have internet connection on the desktop, where I'm typing from now, but just can't find my own network! Frustrating.

Can anyone help?

Anybody know how to fix this issue?

Screenshot of issue:

http://i.imgur.com/KBNuOPl.png

Here's what I've already checked:

1. Network drivers are updated and working. No issues in device manager.
2. The computer connects via network cable.
3. The computer used to have a private VPN service and even though it's now uninstalled, it was trying to reroute all internet through it.
4. The wireless router is functioning and working. Connecting to the wifi with another laptop works. There are 3 or 4 other network connections that should be showing but aren't.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

What should I do to resolve this issue?

So my computer is a Windows 7 computer, with NO wifi.

I have it plugged into my media link wireless router (which is plugged into my motorola surfboard modem)

And somehow there is a wireless network showing here or there called "virus.exe"

It has about two bars. and occasionally it disappears.

I'm wondering how in the world I could be picking up a wireless network called "virus.exe" when I'm only plugged directly into the modem, and my computer doesn't actually have wifi.

Is my computer showing all of the wifi connections received by my wireless modem? Shouldn't it be showing up as a wired connection?

It was confusing me. Seems simple but at the same time I would expect my computer to only pick up the wired connection.

appreciate the help!

Hi!
I recently bought a DVI cable to plug my external LG monitor to my laptop to run nVidia's DualView (stretch format) across the two monitors. I'm using a beta driver (169.04 from laptopvideo2go.com), and when I enter nVidia control panel and go into the setup additional monitors tab, it only lets me choose "choose only ONE monitor". So I did that just to test that my monitor was plugged in right, and it worked. So I KNOW that my monitor is working and is being recognized by Vista. But when going into display settings byt right clicking on my desktop, it also only recognizes 1 monitor. Is it my beta display driver messing my Vista up? Or what could it be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

So here is the issue im having. I have 3GB of ram in system and it is only showing that I have 2.3GB of ram.

First Here is my system:
Vista Home Premium 32bit, nVidia 680i SLI motherboard, dual 512mb nVidia 8600GTS (total 1GB), Ageia PhisX Acc, SoundBlaster X-fi Fatality, Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz, 3GB 800MHZ DDR2 Ram, 320GB 10k RPM HDD

Here is what ive tried.
Updating the bios, reinstalled drivers, replaced the ram with ram from my other system which also has Vista Home Premium 3gb Ram 1x512Mb nVidia 8600 GTS (that system shows 3GB ram.) So i know its not the Ram.

Why am I only showing 2.3GB? I know there is a way to show more, but not sure how.

So I upgraded my laptop from 3gb to 4gb, but for some reason Everest is only showing my computer using 3gb (actually 3061mb). When I try dxdiag, it also only shows 3gb (actually 3062mb). But when I right click on "my computer" and go into the properties menu, it shows me 4gb. My laptop is able to get up to 4gb in RAM, but Vista can't.

After further research, I saw that Windows Vista 32bit version only can work with up to 3gb or ram.

Now if I downgrade back to XP pro, would I still only see 3gb? Would it be worth upgrading to Vista 64bit version? I prefer downgrading cause I like XP more, but im not sure if it will work.

A:Windows 8 Showing wireless network but not able to connect

I think you need to be trying this with out the Intel PROset Wireless application.

You are able to uninstall the Intel PROset application but this does i believe come bundled with the driver.

1. First up download the Driver with out the Intel software:

Windows 8:

Windows 8.1:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...23493&lang=eng

2. Then you will want to unstinall the Intel PROSet Wireless application from Add and remove hardware.

+ R
Types "Appwiz.cpl", click "Ok"
Then uninstall Intel PROSet

3. I then recommend you turn off automatic driver installation:
Drivers - Turn Off Automatic Driver Installation - Windows 7 Help Forums

4. install the Wireless Driver you downloaded earlier.

Give that a try and post results back.

Cheers,
Harry

I installed a microsoft mouse and when I did the restart my wireless
completely dissapered. I can get a conection using a cable, and the wire
less signal is there because I am on in now (android) So... I`ll list every
thing I've already tried so not to waste anyones time.
After the Complete system restore...which I saw the wireless stuff reinstall
I thought I was gtg..but sadly not even that worked.
I looked up the drivers and tried installing, that failed. When you look
in the device manager there is no wireless adapter
It's an Acer Aspire 5253, win 7/64
I have spent days reading and trying to find the solution
hopefully someone that knows can give me some help
Thanks..

You might try using System Restore to go back to a point in time before the mouse drivers were installed.

If you can use the wired connection it may be worth while to check if Windows updates has anything for you.

Hi everyone Wireless networks after not showing connection up drops I have a problem with a second hand laptop the Wireless networks not showing up after connection drops system I registered with and I hope someone can help I will try to explain the whole situation in detail and hope I don't ramble too much I am using BT WiFi-with-FON to access the net and the connection is rather unstable so it drops out on occasion but the problem is that when it does and I try to access the list of Wireless networks not showing up after connection drops open networks none show in fact the icon is completely unresponsive sometimes I used to run a different laptop with and this didn't happen if the connection dropped I'd simply go into the list of open networks disconnect and Wireless networks not showing up after connection drops reconnect and eventually the connection was up and running I suspect that there is a problem with the actual nework card because this appears to be the opnly problem with the system but perhaps there is something else I havn't thought of The laptop was sold with Windows installed but I restored because though it was working for the most part I found that above preferring anyway the same problem manifested itself I thought maybe it was just because the computer was having issues trying to run Win because it was quite unresponsive in other areas as well thankfully those areas are solved with the restoration of but the network problem remains My network card is Intel R Centrino R Wireless-N I hope I've been clear enough Thankyou for any help

How did you install the bluetooth over the network or using a CD? If you could remove the driver and see if that fixes the problem. There could be a conflict with the driver and the NIC wireless driver. Best bet is to remove the NIC driver for the wirless device.. Reboot the laptop or desktop then re-install the NIC driver back or you could install the bluetooth device first then the NIC driver to see if that fixes the problem.

Or you could try to fix network protocols by flushing / purging the 3 caches.

click on start
click on run
type: cmd

type each below

nbtstat -r
netsh interface ip delete arpcache
ipconfig /flushdns

If you get an error on the last one then you have a DNS client service is not running error.

This can be fixed by typing this in the same area you had type the one above

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache /V Start /T REG_DWORD /F /D 2

Wait for the okay then reboot the system
Login back then click on run type: cmd
type: ipconfig /flushdns this should work..

I recently reinstalled XP Pro on my HP Compaq nc6230 laptop. I didnt have the drive disc so I downloaded 2 drivers from the HP site for sound and wireless internet.

I noticed on my network connections, this is all that shows up:

shouldnt there be other LAN connections or something like that? Im trying to bridge a connection so that I can plug my xbox live ethernet cable straight into my laptop, and use it as a "wireless" tool. Ive done it before, but I just reformatted windows like I said.

Hello, I just bought a Linksys router. It is the 2.4 ghz Linksys model WRT54GS and my sister's wireless card is a D-Link Air DWL-520 Wireless PCI Adapter (rev.D). The problem is, I have my router installed and hooked up and I am currently using it but the router doesn't even show up on the list of routers you can connect to on my sister's computer. She is a room away from me and there are at least 2 Linksys routers that show up on the list(all password protected =]) but mine doesn't show up. Is there a way to make my router show up on the list of routers you can connect to on my sister's computer, so that she can go on the internet? Thanks.

A:Linksys Router not showing up on wireless networks ><

You have to enable and configure the wireless feature in the router. Do not operate computing products like toasters - plug in and turn on is not enough!

Any Security Software installed - McAfee, Norton or similar?

If you are using any 3rd party utility manager to wireless connect, disable the WLAN Auto Config for Vista/Win7 from Control Panel's Services. Click on Start and type services.msc press enter, locate WLAN Auto Config and Disable. Otherwise, the WLAN Auto Config needs to be Started if you're using Windows WZC.

If it's still an issue please provide an ipconfig /all of your computer.
Click on Start => in run or search box type cmd press enter (run as Admin). From the black screen, type the word ipconfig /all and press enter. Right click on the black screen or Command prompt then choose Select All and Paste the results here.
