Automatic Start-up in XP-Pro?

Q: Automatic Start-up in XP-Pro?

Working in XP-Pro and have to use several url sites with different usernames and passwords. Is there any known way to accomplish this...ie., bringing up various sites and signing-in in the start-up? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Automatic Start-up in XP-Pro?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Automatic Start-up in XP-Pro?

I don't advise this but:

You should be able to change your autocomplete settings to prompt you to save usernames and passwords. Then you'll have to log into each site, allow them to save your passwords, and then you should be able to put a shortcut to them in your startup folder on your profile. Then everytime you start, or log into your computer those pages will come up.

There are several reasons, however, that you would not want to store your passwords. First, if anyone else gets on your computer as you they will have access to those sites as you have stored the passwords. Second, storing passwords is generally a bad idea. I would imagine that the file IE stores your information in is encrypted, but not very well.

Also, starting up programs from the startup folder is sometimes system intensive. It may try to open those links while still loading windows. Also it will always attempt to open those sites while regardless of your network connectivity. This can result in a long wait for the pages to time out.

Sorry if I misread your question. Hope this helps.

Dear all, today I plugged off my laptop by mistake during re-start. Since then it doesnt boot anymore, and I dont have access to any of F- keys. When I press the start botton, it seems to run regularly, but the HP logo does not show up, just a black screen. If I leave it, after a while it restarts by itself, with the same result. I tried to reset, but with no results. I have two drives, one with Winodws 8 and anotherone with Ubuntu. I tried to disconnet them in sequence but nothing changes, even when both are disconnected. Thanks!

I cant seem to find a way in to stop a few programs running on start up in my toolbar on the bottom right hand side?

I have looked in the options in the programs but cant find a way to stop this happenig. I feel that there is too much loading up at the start.

Is there a way to select programs on start up??

Some of the ones i am having problems with are VNC, Evidnece Elim & Quicktime!

A:programs automatic on start up

go to start , then run, type msconfig and hit run. then go to startup and make sure you read them the one that are check will come up when you boot the ones unchecked don't boot. after that right click on the start meun and go to properties then go to the start meun tab and click customize on the classical start meun and click clear. this will clear out the fact you type msconfig cause it isn't good to play around it there unless you know what your doing.

Hi everyone,
I hoping someone might be able to help me. I have been using Windows 8. Very often when I am on the internet or on the desktop screen and I move my finger on the mouse pad, the Start screen automatically comes on. This happens when I move my finger on the mouse pad and the screen automatically goes to the Start screen. It is very annoying. Can you please suggest something that would prevent the computer screen moving to the Start screen even when I do not want that screen.
Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Automatic Start Screen comes on

Where is the mouse pointer when this happens? If it's off to the top right side then it could be that you are opening the Charms bar and selecting Start accidentally.

I was attacked by a virus or malware of some sort and cannot get my Automatic Update to start anymore.

the BITS and Event log that Microsoft says that need to be running are running, but Automatic update will not start.

I get the following message when I say start:

"Cannot start the Automatic Update service on Local Computer. Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabledor because it has no enabled devices associted with it."

I have CA 2008 Suite Plus running on my computer.

Thanks for the help.

A:Automatic Update Will Not Start

Are you saying that you cant get the automatic update service to start?

If so, its most likely due to the infection you have there in your machine.

I recommend that you read this article… "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
(Simply, click on the coloured links to be re-directed.)

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

I am not sure why or when but now CD's dvd's don't start automatically, I have to go to my computer and click on the dvd drive to start it. This happens with all disks, music movies and new software, even though I have certain programs set to start when disk is inserted they don't, like WinDVD is set to load when a movie disk is put in and now it does not start, so I am not sure what I did, but if anyone has a fix I sure would appreciate it.

you could try checking
this page, following the steps and just choose "Enabled"

I use TweakUI from Microsoft to turn off my Drive Autoplay becuase I have a lot of different removable drives and thumb drives that I hate when it auto starts/scans some 120 GB removable drives. But it can be used to also turn them ON.

it may not be that simple but, you never know.

Guys,

My windows 7 would just automatically shutdown within ~1-5 minutes after start up.

For example, I start up PC>log in>start browsing net>ALL OF A SUDDEN SCREEN WOULD GO BLANK (have experienced either entirely blue, white and black)>while screen is gone, the hard drive would probably run for another 20 secs before shutting down.

But then when I start up the PC immediately again (after it shutdown), the issue goes away and windows run fine.

What is wrong with my PC? Thanks a ton for the help!

Billy

Do you get any BSOD screens when it does it.

Let Try to find any previous BSOD on your computer

Download BlueScreenView (in Zip file)
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

To Disable Automatic Restart. It will give you a BSOD every time it shutdown unexpectedly(Only do this If your computer keeps shutting down unexpectedly)

Clcik My computer>Clcik System Properties>Click on Advanced System Settings>Under Startup & Recovery>Click Settings>Under System Failure>Uncheck Automatic Restart

When I login under XP there are a number of programs anti-virus etc which start automatically and their icons appear in the tray at bottom right of the screen How can I disable any of these applications from starting automatically at login All the info in the XP Help seems to talk just about how to remove icons from the Start Menu which does not have the desired effect Should I use the Add Remove Programs option for this I am automatic from Disabling XP start in programs loathe to do a Remove in case it deletes the program entirely and I can t then get it back Also I do t want to lose the ability to run any of these applications at all i just want to be able to choose if when I start them This seems one of those quot simple tasks quot that just isn t mentioned anywhere Years ago with Windows it was easy - I could just edit the INI file - but I m lost with XP nbsp

A:Disabling programs from automatic start in XP

Hi for each program there should be an option to stop auto run on startup so first of all check the program setting for each application.

If that fails start>run type msconfig and click on the startup tab.

In here will be a list of application, just uncheck the ones you don't wish to run at startup.

Hope this helps

"acer
explore beyond limits"

"your pc ran into a problem and need to restart. we're just collecting some error info, and than we'll restart for you ( 0%)"

"Preparing Automatic Repair.."

than the screen just turns black..

it will just restart the same thing

I tried booting into safe mode but nothing happens.

is there anyway to fix this ?

A:windows messenger automatic start

Hi...

You need to change the setttings in Windows Messenger whilst on the profile you want to stop it running on.

- Click Tools then Options then Preferences
- Remove the ticks from required boxes to stop it from running at start up, logon, connection and also to stop it running in the background

To remove the passwords, try the following:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
control userpasswords2
- Click OK
- Click the Advanced tab and then the Manage Passwords button and remove the ones you need

Not 100% sure the control userpasswords2 will work on Win ME but it's worth a go :-)

I know you can sign off but when someone else gets on your computer e_mails open up for all to see.Is there any way to set it up so you can only view e_mails by signing in.

A:How to stop automatic start up of e_mail

Hello PMan, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could have each user have their own user account to sign in to Windows 8 with, and have each user have their own email account. This way they are not sharing your user account, emails, etc....

User Account - Add a New User in Windows 8

Hope this helps,

I'm using an Acer aspire one 722 netbook. Delete key automatically presses itself at first few seconds of Windows start. Here is what's going on as you can see. This also happens when I press delete or backspace so now pressing those keys messes up everything.

What's the solution for this? Thank you.

Do you have a restore point created prior to this problem? Have you tried running an AV and antimalware scan?

Check the health status of your hard drive (Smart) using the diagnostic tool from the hard disk manufacturer.
More than likely a ram issue. Run memtest 86 to verify. This will take a while.

Hi. So i have an Windows 10 Pro. But i got issue.
Few days ago after i finished testing my ram in memtest86 ( bootable from USB ) , i change boot in UEFI BIOS from USB to SSD.
After this Windows 10 started showing at 1 boot Automatic Repair and Diagnosing Pc. Windows 10 boot loader starts by "preparing automatic repair" and diagnosing pc.
Then after this i get screen with Your pc did not start correctly. And when i click restart then Windows 10 boot fine.
This startup problem was occured only when starting system again after shutdown or restarted pc from windows.So i was needed 2 boots to boot properly to windows. After screen with Your pc did not start correctly i click restart i was able to boot Windows 10 properly.

Pc :
4790k
2x8gb 1600mhz Hyperx DDR3
Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 UEFI
Samsung Ssd 250 Gb Evo

Is this something with hardware or windows problem? HDD smart is fine, memtest86 not showing errors.

A:Automatic Updates service won't start without repair

Hi:

We don't work on logs in this forum. But from what I can see you have a least a worm. We can't fix it here.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html

After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum, not here.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

Been trying like mad to get the Automatic Updates service started. I've tried the official and very simple how to sort it out bit as shown here:

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2. In the right pane, double-click Automatic Updates.
3. Click the Log On tab.
4. In the You can enable or disable this service for the hardware profiles listed below box, click the current hardware profile, and then click Enable.
5. Click Apply, and then click the General tab.
6. Click Start, and then click OK.

Still won't start. If you try and start it manually, you get the following error:

error 1058: the service could not be started because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it

Hello,

I'm talking about search function by using windows explorer's search box.
By default search in windows explorer begins as you type - it doesn't wait you to finish typing.
I hate that and I want to begin search only when I want that (when finished typing the whole string) - by pushing search lens button on the right for example.

Possible to do that ?

thanks
Vilius

A:Disable automatic search start (as you type) ?

Odd, that is one of the ways it speeds things up, it by starting the search while you are figuring out what terms to add.

I have the following problem Two days ago while browsing a pop-up window caused my Internet Explorer to freeze Since I was almost done browsing I chose to shut down the PC altogether and only a few hours later realized I had caught some kind of spyware or virus Whenever I boot IE is opened automatically The startpage was changed to some kind of websearch with different entries already given and named quot about blank quot Whenever I changed that into my standard it was changed back as soon as I closed the IE and at every reboot Also at one point when I was online something should have been downloaded but I just canceled that request not having a closer look at what that may have been Since then I took the following actions manually looked for files that had been added to my system at the time of that frozen IE I found some page IE changed start automatic and startup and moved them to a different folder They were javaqh exe oirqw txt netis dll d ue exe in the C WinNT folder automatic IE start and startup page changed mswb dll yqarj dll wmaa dll sdkud exe sysnk exe syspj exe in the C WinNT System Folder Since automatic IE start and startup page changed I manually moved them I thought I d better mention them in case your hijackthis will overlook them I remember that javaqh was in the loaded processes as well as d ue and I managed to get them out of there and to different folders by starting my system under DOS and move them then After that I also updated my Adaware was but I also downloaded your named SE version today updated it and run it It found some problems that got fixed After that I started my updated Spybot S amp D and it also found a few entries in the registry Oh I remember I took a look there too and manually removed two entries that I think were mentioned in another post something starting with or the like some hieroglyphs anyway I had that deleted already before starting Spybot Spybot tried to fix the problems but there was one problem regarding a quot Trek Blue Error Nuker quot that needed a reboot to have it removed I did so and apparently Spybot managed to remove it BUT whenever I rebooted all the other problems had come back So I ran through this procedure three times yesterday without getting it fixed Somehow I managed to at least have that offline-saved quick online Search removed to my IE now always starts on about blank without having some resident page loaded Please apologize if I am not making sense with some statements I am German so I might translate some things not as good as it might be Okay so today I read your post here in the forum about what I have to do before posting As I said I downloaded and updated Adaware and run it it fixed some more problems After the reboot I think they did not reappear Then I tried that Online-Scan But apart from the fact that your instructiuons should be adapted to the new versions some buttons at adaware have changed or disappeared that I should have clicked I was NOT ABLE to perform that scan As soon as the components were loaded so that I could pick my drives and click on start a few seconds later my IE closed with an error message that IE had quot caused problems and will be closed quot Well I think you know that kind of message I tried it three times with the same results So here I am followed the instructions for hijack this although I had another problem while downloading it my kerio personal firewall informed me that a programm called ljsm I think that was the name not sure wanted to start something else three or four different programs with similar names I blocked that via kerio but since that kept on and on again I went to my task-manager and shut off that process ljsm It might be that this will then not have been quot seen quot by hijack this I don t know but I thought it best to mention it Alright So then I used the HijackThis Analyzer program to get the quot new quot log and so here we go I am not so sure about what additional info you need I suppose mainly o... A:automatic IE start and startup page changed

Greetings, and welcome to TSF!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Right click on this link http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

The version of Internet Explorer your currently using is out of date, and should be upgraded to the newest version as soon as possible.

===============

We'll need to download these program(s) to help us deal with the "About:Blank" infection:

-

Download, unzip to your desktop CWShredder and run it, then:

1. Click "Check For Update"

(If an update isn't available, skip to step #4.)

2. Click "Click here to Download the upate".
3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save".
4. Exit the program.

Download, unzip to your desktop About:Buster and run it, then:

1. Click "Update".
2. Click "Check For Update"

(If no new version is available, skip to step #4.)

3. Click "Download Update", and wait for it to be installed.
4. Exit the program.

===============

Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode"

===============

Next, locate CWShredder that you downloaded earlier and run it, then:

1. Click "Fix ->"

===============

Next, locate About:Buster that you downloaded earlier and run it, then:

1. Click "Start".

(Wait for the initial ADS scan to complete.)

2. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE session currently open.

(Wait for the about:blank scan to complete.)

3. Click "Ok", to scan once more.
4. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE sessions currently open.
5. Click "Yes", to begin the second pass.

6. Click "Save log", and post this log back along with your new log.
7. Click "Exit".
8. Click "Exit".

===============

Reboot your computer normally.

Let's look for, and delete, any program segments(prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from this system. To do this, let's:

1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

MediaDet.Exe*

2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

===============

Next, Open a command prompt by:

1. Clicking "Start", then "Run...".
2. Enter "cmd" (without the quotes).
3. Enter "services.msc" (without the quotes).

A:Windows 8 won't start - can't acces automatic repair

Hi there
Do You have the windows disk?
If so have you tried to do a repair with the disk.
If not you can borrow one from someone if you know of anyone who has one.
I know you don't have a DVD drive but you may need to try and either buy an external DVD drive or borrow one.

A:Stuck in automatic repair loop, can't start.

Hi Anti & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

This bug check indicates that the Microsoft Windows operating system has lost access to the system partition during startup.

Did you try with another HDD? I would suggest you doing the Disk Diagnostics and report back the results -
Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Furthermore, have you tried re-plugging the cables with which your Hard Disk is connected?

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Hi there

With windows 8 in the start screen I was able to search for something e.g. an app just by typing on the keyboard straight away. However since upgrading to 8.1 this doesn't seem to work anymore - I now have to actually go to the right hand side and reveal the search box, click in it, type etc.

Is anyone else having this problem. Have Microsoft disabled the automatic search? It was quite handy when wanting to quickly find a program so I'm confused why it would have been removed if it has.

Thanks
Peter

Windows 7 OS was automatically updated on 9 July 2014. (16 updates)
At the next reboot I powered up the PC, windows loaded normally and the updates installed.
On the next restart, I found that the system halted at the blue welcome screen.
Then after about 2 mins windows loaded normally.
This happened each time I rebooted.
I then restored the PC back to before the update.
When I powered down the updates were again automatically loaded.
When I rebooted, the PC halted at the blue screen but then windows loaded after 2 mins.
The updates were then installed.
I then rebooted and the start-up sequence was back to normal.
My question is how can a windows update have caused this start-up problem.

A:Windows 7 automatic update caused start-up problem

Further investigation has revealed that the problem had nothing to do with windows updates.
The problem seems to be a Belkin Powered USB Hub.
Removing all the devices connected via the hub but leaving the hub connected results in the start-up problem.
Removing the hub completely resulted in a normal start-up.
When the hub was replaced with a similar Belkin Powered USB Hub, started-up remains normal.
So, it appears the original hub was faulty and impacting on the start-up sequence.

What notebook model do you have exactly?
Did you try to recover the notebook using Recovery Medium or the HDD recovery option?

Hey guys, I've been receiving Stop error 0x0000000A on startup. The last parameter is 0x8051c796. I am wondering what this refers to. Also, my computer will automatically shutdown at times. It would have this problem before the blue screen errors on occasion, but now it happens more often while I am in safe mode.

A:blue screen on start up, automatic shut downs

Let's try this.Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html .Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file.When autoscan is done (screen comes up), click Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.Save the report as BSOD.txt.Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and paste it into your next replyLouis

A:Microsoft Windows Media Player Automatic Start Up

Hi, welcome to TSG.

Post a HiJackThis log and it will show what programs run at startup.

Go to this site http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php?page=download.

Click on 'Download HijackThis Installer'.

*Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop, or to the location where you normally download.
*Double-click on HJTInstall.exe.
*Click on Install.
*By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
*Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
*Click on the 'Do a system scan and save a logfile button'. It will scan and the log will open in notepad.
*Click Save to save the log file.
*Click on 'Edit > Select All' then click on 'Edit > Copy' (or Ctrl-C) to copy the entire contents of the log.
*Come back to this thread and Paste (or Ctrl-V) the log in your next reply.

*DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Right click, click Properties and be sure it is set to Start Type: Automatic, click the Apply button, and then click Status: Start button. Maybe it got turned off somehow at this level. I am working on an HP 2000-2b09wm laptop running windows 8.   When you start the computer, it shopws the hp sign and under it is says, "WIndows Automatic Repair" then after it runs for a few minutes, it goes to a black screen?   I cannot get to the windows desktop to start repairing it or starting a virus scan.   I am kind of new to windows 8.  How can i fix this?  How do i start it in safe mode so i can install and start i virus scan?  Any help would be great.  THANKS!

A:How to start in SAFE MODE? Stuck on automatic repair?

From the Windows 8 Help & Support, here's the procedure
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)
With Windows Startup Settings (which used to be called "Advanced boot options") you can start Windows in different advanced troubleshooting modes to help you find and fix problems on your PC.
To get to Windows Startup Settings
1.     Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
2.     Under PC settings, tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
3.     Under Advanced startup, tap or click Restart now.
4.     Once your PC restarts, on the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot.
5.If you don't see the Startup Settings option, tap or click Advanced options.
6.     Tap or click Startup Settings.
7.     Tap or click Restart.
8.     On the Startup Settings screen, choose the startup setting you want.
9.     Sign in to your PC with a user account that has administrator rights.
 MS keeps coming out with updates telling us how wonderful they've made it, but I defy anyone to call this an improvement!
Hi! Everytime Windows XP starts up, it automatically opens Windows Media Player. I tried researching on how to disable this. I found as much as this:
start up - run - type 'msconfig'- and go to the start up tab.
I've gotten that far. However, under the start up tab's list of files, none of them are obvious to being the one to disable windows media player. I don't want to disable them all either.
Which of these files belongs to Windows Media Player
or
Is there another method to hault WMP from automatic start up?
I have an update. I ran Dial-a-Fix and ComboFix and now my Windows Update is functioning again. I believe it was ComboFix that corrected the problem. Both programs found malware which they removed, but I still have the problem with connecting to the Internet as stated in my first response.
This computer runs windows 7 pro 32 bit and has been infected previously, (and possibly may still be).
I have run Microsoft Offline and removed a couple of virus's.
I was unable to get action center going, so performed a repair install.
System restore was disabled, so have enabled it now.
I have tried registry repair, by importing wscsvc.reg
Security center cannot be enabled form action center or from the services admin area.
In Services it shows as disabled. I can change it to Automatic (Delayed) and Apply. Seems to do that for a short time. Once Automatic I can start Security services, and the lack of antivirus is reported, but within 10 seconds or so, the process is stopped and disabled again.
Thanks for help.
A:- Automatic BSOD crash at boot - Continuous start-restart cycle
Well the existance of an Ubuntu Live disk red-flags the possiblity that your Linux Grub is ultimately the source. I had this situation and had to do a completely New Install as support for XP from Linux people is non-existant in fact they will laugh in your face.
Only it's not funny...
I just re-read your post. Please pay close attention to the Recovery Console options and try it again, as you should be able to boot to this no matter how corrupt the HD software is.
If you REALLY can't get there, then I would be thinking hardware problems and not software. So then if the Ubuntu is working, that sort of indicates the hardware is GOOD, which is a pickle, for sure.
<looks for a pickle icon ...>
Hmm . . .
Okay, here's my thought.
Download & install the HD utility software for your particular HD. All the manufacturer's make this available on their web-site's Support section and run the utility to make sure the stinkin' HD is good (or find out maybe it is BAD, only Ubuntu doesn't know it yet . . .)
Also, maybe the Utility can FIX whatever is wrong.
If the HD turns out to be good, then I don't know what's next. Maybe the HD cable, the CD/DVD device or maybe even HEAT. Is your CPU fan clean & spinning really, really fast ?
Or Power Supply maybe. How old is it, what is it's wattage and is it a good one or a cheapie no-name ?
Hay ever-body ! Come help this guy; this one sounds FUN !!!
A:Automatic BSOD crash at boot - Continuous start-restart cycle
Welcome to TSG....
Use the Ubuntu live to back up all of the important data and laptops are usually special tyoes of computers and take a bit more work to do a clean installation than a desktop. Make sure you have all of the recovery disks including the special driver disk if you do not have this one call the manufacturer of the laptop and order a complete new recovery disk set for your computer. Also while talking with them have them get you a guide on how to re-install Windows on this laptop. The on-line thru email should be able to give you this.
Question can you get into windows at all to do anything even for a short period of time?
Hi all Does setting Windows Updates to quot notify for download and notify for install quot via GP edit also Driver? include automatic automatic Device Updates Win disabling Does disable Device Driver automatic installation Or does disabling automatic device driver installation need to be configured separately If the latter separate setting is Does disabling automatic Win Updates include automatic Device Driver? it advisable to do so despite the ominous warning from M that quot your device may not work as expected quot I followed Brink's characteristically excellent tutorial for GP edit here Windows Update Automatic Updates - Does disabling automatic Win Updates include automatic Device Driver? Enable or Disable in Windows to quot notify for download and notify for install quot Thanks for that So my questions center on whether doing so will also prevent automatic device driver installation or whether I need to and or should configure that setting separately M 's ominous warning seems to be strongly discouraging users from disabling automatic device driver updates and quot realistic icons quot For my OEM XP Vista and systems I have always gotten drivers -- WHEN NEEDED -- from the OEM not via Windows Update as the OEMs historically have done a better job than M in offering the needed drivers for their computers Is that still true under Win Assuming that disabling automatic Windows Updates does NOT also disable automatic device driver updates should I disable automatic device driver installation on this OEM Win box TIA MM
A:Does disabling automatic Win Updates include automatic Device Driver?
Hello MM,
That will stop drivers from automatically being installed in Windows Update, but won't stop drivers from being available in Windows Update.
If you don't want drivers to be available in Windows Update, then you can disable this using the tutorial below. If disabled, you'll have to manually update (download and install) your drivers from the manufacturer.
Driver Updates in Windows Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 10driver-updates-windows-update-enable-disable-windows-10-a.html
The first tutorial below you posted will turn on/off automatic installation of drivers for devices. However, I would recommend to also disable automatic updates in the second tutorial below to be safe.
Automatic Data Collection and Dashboard /Date Inputs are automatic. Metrics are predicated on the percent complete per month..
It is hard to explain, but the data accumulates hourly, daily, weekly, monthly quarterly, Simi annually and annually.
Some areas do not meet the % required for the month others do the dashboard should show that.
The dashboard should show each month the % complete and if it is on target.
Please see spreadsheet example, I can manage the most conditional formatting; I just need help to automate the process.
Is there a way to adjust the delay time for a Win 7 Service set to start as "Automatic (Delayed Start)" ?
I've got one service set to the default Automatic that causes many other startup items to take a long time to run on bootup.
If I change the service to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" that fixes this annoyance issue.
Other startup programs and services start quickly ...
But with "Automatic (Delayed Start)" the delay is a minute or more ... whatever MS delayed start means
I would like the delay to be 10-15 seconds.
How do I prevent Automatic restarts after important updates? I want my computer to be updated when theres an important update. I want to be told my computer was updated and needs to be restarted.
I was in the middle of something important tonight before I passed out on the couch. I woke up and my computer restarted without saving
A:Automatic Updates & Stopping Automatic Restarts
Just go into the Windows update control panel and turn off Automatic updates then set it so you control when the updates are installed which gives you the reboot option instead of doing it for you.
I'm a system admin full of users that don't bother to install the windows patches and updates. Well I've setup the desktops to automatically check, download, and install the updates.
Does this only check at the time specified?
Does it only download critical updates? windows updates? drivers?
Does it prompt the user when it's downloading and installing? Does it force them to restart their machines?
A:windows automatic updates isn't so automatic
If you're talking about Auto Updates in XP, then you can specify an exact time for the updater to check and download and install the updates. RIGHT click My Computer/Auto Update Tab. Otherwise, depending on the internet connection, update looks only once a day I believe. ONLY critical updates are brought down, you must visit the site for driver and other updates.
When my 8.1 laptop lost time and I didn't understand why I looked in Control Panel/System Security/Action Centre and altho the Automatic Maintenance says No action needed the last run date is unknown and Windows was unable to determine the last date maintenance was run. If I try to Start Maintenance manually the laptop just gives a ding noise and nothing. When I changed maintenance settings that did not resolve it. I have gone into Troubleshooting but there are no issues, I have installed all the updates and I have run all the diagnostic tools. I am at a loss as to why the Automatic Maintenance is not working and whether that is the reason my laptop lost a few minutes in time. I should add that on my other laptop the Automatic Maintenance is working because it gives the last run date. Anyone give me any help please.
In some cases windows Recovery disks may help.
Here is the link for Windows 7 x86 edition :
http://www.forum.probz.net/index.php...vironment-iso/
Click the download button on the page and then burn the iso file to a Cd-r medium.
But if Win7 recovery cd is not of help ,in that case Live CD 's come to aid.
Here is the list of linux livecd's :
Linux | The LiveCD List
Booting via a livecd (free Linux distributions) needed files can be recovered and copied
to external mediums and system afterwards can be re-setup.
Linux livecd can be burned onto a dvd-r /cd-r disk or to an usb flash memory.USB is faster and better
of course.
Laptops like Toshiba have recovery partitions in many cases, and a special recovery
option is provided upon bootup.(F9 - F10 likewise..)
hope your problem gets solved.
Sorry if this has been asked before; I couldn't find any help through the search function, & Google led me to a bunch of other forums that only let me see the supposed answer if I created an account with them.
Yesterday I upgraded to XP service pack 2 (about time, I know). Now, whenever I leave the computer for awhile, I am automatically logged off. I read somewhere that doing a right-click on the desktop, then properties > screen saver would lead me to a box I can uncheck. Thing is, I don't have a screen saver enabled, so the box is already unchecked. I also tried Power Options in the Control Panel, and nothing is set to sleep or shut down or hibernate or anything.
This wouldn't be such a big deal, if I didn't have thousands of songs that needed syncing to an iPod, which takes hours!
Help?
It didn't even get to the desktop yet, just instantly says Log Off after Loading Settings. I tried starting in Safe Mode but it still does the same if I try to login with Administrator.
A:Automatic Log Off
Check that your Event logs are not full using Safe Mode: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;313322
Check that Fast User Switching is not the issue: http://www.exodus-dev.com/techtips/w...n_problems.htm
You could be throwing and error during logon: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/162031/EN-US/
Your Userinit setting is missing. Some adware scanners can cause this: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index...ic=43115&st=40
