Internet Speed and Bandwidth Speed Sudden Drop

Q: Internet Speed and Bandwidth Speed Sudden Drop

So sometime ago around about the start of November my internet speed dropped out of nowhere and has remained at the constantly lowered speed since then Usually I would have a download speed of mbps however in recent days that s more like mbps When trying a bandwidth test that would usually have been about mbps however that is more like mbps now A way I used to scope what my bandwidth was was using the Formula com website where when you watch a video on it it will tell you your bandwidth rating before hand That as I say has dropped from the mbps to the mbps mentioned This is normally an and Speed Speed Drop Bandwidth Internet Sudden okay speed to do things however whilst my father is using Netflix the internet becomes so slow that it is basically impossible to do anything Normally on my old internet speed it would have not been a problem Now I ve done all the tests that are normally mentioned to Internet Speed and Bandwidth Speed Sudden Drop do as I have been searching for an answer since the Internet Speed and Bandwidth Speed Sudden Drop internet speed tanked It is not a computer specific problem as it is exactly the same on all devices connected to the router I have rung my ISP and they have said that my line should be receiving around mbps as we run on an ADSL connection However doing a line test through the same provider says we should be getting mbps My ISP reports no problems with the line and there has been no change at my end either When the internet suddenly dropped as I say it was a sudden speed decrease it didn t happen over a period of time it literally happened in an instant I was on a BT HomeHub This hub would continuously be disconnecting due to a fault however the internet speed was always at the mbps Bandwidth However around about the th- th of November as I say the internet just dropped but we were still having troubles with the disconnections A BT HomeHub was then upgraded to which has since stopped the disconnections but the speed has remained exactly the same Any advice would be appreciated on this and I thank you for any time that you put into this issue I just hope that it s something that can be resolved I just want to know what has caused it it s one of those things that just shouldn t happen but has and it is mighty frustrating Again thanks Phil nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Sudden Speed Drop

Hi Wongy,

Does your connection ever drop? If so it could be that your 16MB is too high for your PC. This causes it to throttle. Ask your ISP what speed they are expecting on your line and get them to check it. If they are not reporting any problems then you might want to ask them to cap it - this could also save you money. You only need 6-7 MB for videos and games.

If they are saying that there is another reason and they aren't looking too interested then shift supplier. Their contracts don't mean too much if they are breaking it by not supplying the MB they are advertising so they wont legally stop you.

Hope that helps.

I have a dell Inspiron 1705 using built in Intel ProSet Wireless. Up until yesterday all was well....network connection speed of 54 Mbps almost always. Today speed varies from 54 Mbps (at start up) to as low as 1Mbps (2, 5.5, 12, 18, 24, 36 and even sometimes back up to 54). Anybody got an idea what's up? Using linksys wrt54gl as router/gateway with Desktop hard wired to it. No apparent problems with desktop.

I have Verizon k DSL and Internet Inexplicable Drop Speed at my computer I can generally get download speeds of - kb s but beginning suddenly a few days ago I ve been getting speeds of Inexplicable Internet Speed Drop - kb s Some Facts It s been over F in the past few days Using USB wireless produces the same results as going with the LAN cable This computer seems to be the only one experiencing trouble Downloads may begin at a high speed but quickly descend into the kb s range The desktop is quite a distance from the router and modem set up probably - yards through walls and a floor but that s never mattered before Sometimes but not every time when I log in to my computer I get split-second messages that a network cable is unplugged though I don t believe it causes any actual interruption Things I ve Done Did system scans with Avast Ad-Aware Spybot Search amp Destroy and currently scanning with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Reset the router and modem Made sure all accessible LAN cables are plugged in correctly Reinstalled ethernet drivers Sprayed dust out of my chassis I have no idea what s going on nbsp

A:Inexplicable Internet Speed Drop

I appear to have my old speed back, I THINK, at least. The mysterious problem had a mysterious solution. In case anyone's curious, I think it was one of a few things:

Hard reset of my computer (no Windows shut down).
Using a WinSock repair program.
Forcing the RealPlayer or iTunes program to shut down and/or removing their start up entries (???), which I was doing to quicken the Windows startup since troubleshooting takes a lot of system restarts.
I doubt the problem is really solved; I'll edit this again if I have problems.

Hi, I'm pretty sure that vista is not the cause of this problem. Try updating the drivers for your modem/ internet drivers. Have you done the basic unplugging of modem and after 10 seconds going back?

A:Internet speed fluctuates, drop very fast, up and down all day

suddenly it start to drop from 300kb/sec down to 6kb/secHi -I am sure this is not correct, as Download speed is recorded in Mbps , not Kbps -If the speed was below 6Mbps then it is a major worry, as you would not have very good reception -Even at 6Mbps you should get a reading from SpeedTest. Is the computer Wired to a Modem or is it Wireless when you have these problems ?? Can you plug the computer into the Modem and see if there is better speeds from Verizon to do a full check ??Thank You -

Normally it's around 1200-1300 or so and now I'm lucky to hit 600. I havent downloaded anything and i ran a few scans (Norton and SUPERAntiSpyware) but nothing seems to come up. I also checked my routers network to see if anyone could be on it but only whats is normally connected is (Two Xbox 360s and two computers). Any suggestions on what to check next?

Only had this new pc a few weeks and it is so slow now after 3 blue screen of death crashes that caused this I think, I believe firefox caused. I am not sure how to read dump files to show you details of the BSOD. I am including details of my PC along with the hijack this log, my system is clean though according to antispyware and virus scans.

2GB DDRII RAM
VISTA ULTIMATE 32bit

I installed 64bit before this 32bit one on another partition of this HDD but cannot boot into it anymore at startup because this PC won't let me select it because it does not detect my keyboard in DOS mode for some weird reason.

Hijackthis log is attached file.

I found this helpful information on possible solutions, very familiar with errors on previous Microsoft operating systems. http://www.vandersluijs.nl/content/view/973/96/lang,enI uninstalled one of the suggested updates and so far it is fine, the update was only optional so no security threats. I think it has helped, not certain if it will be like a fresh install because windows is slower than it was two weeks ago. If 3 weeks is best windows can handle for being ready for a new install I may have to go back to Linux. I hope this thread can stay on this forum somewhere to help others follow the link I posted above for possible solutions to this problem, it will save them time and effort trying numerous things.

My computer was running just fine til about a week ago. I am on a secure network that was before yielding 1/mb/sec download speeds on wireless router. I have tested the network on my laptop and it still runs just fine, however my desktop has become sluggish, the download speeds are down to 30kb/sec and the search function has been taken over by "searchfastfind.net" that Malware Bytes has failed to find. Today the internet would simply die and not reconnect, or my browser would redirect to dead sites. The CPU on any processes doesn't seem high, but my computer is screaming like it's running several programs at once. I am using Vista, all updates installed that are available and needed.

What would I do to figure out the sort of malware I suspect this to be?

I ran rkill.exe it found no known programs running, malware still seems to come up empty, but my cpu speed and internet connection are still terrible.

Hi; I have a Dynalink router and on plan which I get really nice speeds for me (downloads a few megabytes a second), using Windows XP via ethernet.
However as soon as a laptop is also plugged in also via ethernet and streams videos, the internet on my Windows XP computer is so slow, web pages can barely open.
Is there anyone to somehow make both of them at least able to both use the internet? What's the problem? Thanks in advance for any help

sounds like the laptop is hogging all the bandwidth

what speed do you actually have - via www.speedtest.net ?

what happens if the laptop is connected and not streaming videos - it may also have a number of downloads - updates running in the background

From what I've read and heard, you'll want to set up a bridge between your two computers for the networking card. Also, make sure that your networked using a workgroup, not a homegroup. Homegroups are only used to network two Windows 7 PC's. Here's some info on the subject:

Network Bridge - Create or Delete
Internet Connection Sharing between 7 and XP
How to make Windows 7 work with older Windows versions for networking and file sharing.

As far as your internet goes, you'll want to make sure that your network card is compatible with Windows 7 in the first place. Most are, but it's always worth the time to check.

Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads

Once you've done that, go to your network card manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers they have for your version (32/64-bit) of Windows 7. If they don't have Windows 7 drivers, you can try using Windows Vista drivers with compatibility mode enabled.

If you're still having trouble once you're set your network up properly, fill in your system specs on the forums and wait for more advice. You can also try some of the tools over at dslreports.com

hi! i just wanna ask between the difference of the download speed and the internet speed. because i have a 1.5mb connection i tried at speedtest and when i download i always get a 190-200kbps rate. so its not actually 1.5mb in my download speed even my internet speed is 1.5mbps. is there and calculator what should be my connection if i want my download speed like 1mb per second? thank you very much.

A:difference between the download speed and internet speed?

Are you sure you're not getting 190-200KBps? You have to watch because the speed is often stated using different bit rates. When you see 1.5Mbs (lower case b) then it is megabits per second. If you see 190KBs (upper case B) then it's talking kilobytes per second. There are 8 bits in a byte so you really need to multiply the KBs number by 8 to determine the megabits or divide the Mbs number by 8 to determine the megabyte number.

In your case 200KBs multiplied by 8 is 1600Kbs or 1.6Mbs.

I've been told before that download speed is independent of how fast your Internet connection is. Is that true?

A:Download Speed v. Internet Connection Speed

Short answer = no. But on the other hand yes. Depends on how you mean the question.

Internet connection speed is defined by download speed and upload speed.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

It's probably an issue of semantics, i.e. what they meant when they said "download". Your "download speed" is dependent on how fast your ISP's download speed, but also how fast the downloading server us uploading the data, be it a file or a web page, or whatever. You can't get something faster than someone is sending it to you, however you can get it slower.

I do know that repeaters cut the speed since its half duplex and recently I bought belkin range extender and I was surprised that it didn't cut my speed... I though it might be because belkin have two wireless chips one for receiving and another for sending... is this possible?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

A:Repeater bandwidth speed.

This may help you understand, but unless your BB connection is over 20 Mbps, using a repeater should make little or no difference in internet speed tests.

Speed tests measure how fast data is transferred from a server to your PC (down speed), then how fast it is transferred back to the server (up speed). In most cases the limiting factor is the speed caps your ISP imposes.

Full Duplex - information is transmitted and received over two differnet paths at the same time. For example Ethernet has two wires (leads 1 and 2) that carry information from router to the PC and two wires (leads 3 and 6) that carry information from the PC to the router at the same time.

Half Duplex - information is alternately sent and received over the same path. Data transfer rate is about half of a full duplex connection.
WiFi is half duplex because information is alternately sent and received on the same channel.

Repeaters cause about a half speed reduction because they receive a transmission that is stored in memory, then rebroadcast using the same equipment.
______________________________

For "G" wireless

Router to PC - 54Mbps

Router to repeater 54 Mbps. repeater to PC 54 Mbps.
The effective speed between the router and the PC is 27 Mbps because of the repeater.

Howdy,

I'm wondering if there are any way to test the speed/bandwidth of an SD card with built-in Windows 7 utilities/diagnostic software?

And in the absence of that, what are the best (and safest) freeware utilities to do this test?

I'm not having a problem with my machine, simply want to figure out which of my SD cards are the slowest and fastest so I can decide which to use and when.

Many thanks!

Hi OldDogEyes, I have used this little app in the past to verify if a pen drive was genuine It will also tell you the transfer read/write rates H2testw - Fix Your USB! If you have a usb adaptor for your SD card it should work on that

All,
I have a connection of 256 Kbps and effectively i will get approx. 200kbps of net speed. This info i got by running speed tests available in the internet itself. I am getting a download speed of 30kbps only. Most of the time, we will keep the download window and leave the pc without doing any browsing in parallel. So my doubt is , is there any way to utilise that entire bandwidth for the download itself. i.e instead of 30kbps download speed, i should get 200kbps speed itself...? Is this possible to do either in Linux/Windows..?? Can someone help me out ??

A:Full Bandwidth speed for Downloads

If I understand your problem correctly, it sounds like the website you're downloading from has an upload limit of 30k/s per user.

You could use a download manager like FlashGet which allows you to appear to the site as though you are more than one user, effectively splitting the download into several parts, each getting 30k/s at the same time.

In the Add New Download window that appears when you download a file using FlashGet, increasing the Threads from main site number from 1 to 4 should increase the download speed from 30k/s to 120k/s. You can experiment with this number, but going too high will cause problems for the website, other users and yourself, so keep it below about 6.

I'm moving soon, and will be going down from 15Mbps internet to 3Mbps internet and have a few questions.
From my current company, they issue me a cable modem/(W)LAN router all-in-one. The new company will isse me a one-computer direct modem, that I'll huck up to a wireless router. I have 3 (main) computers on the network and 2 others that aren't usually in use. Will I experience big speed/bandwidth bottlenecks with this? Thanks in advance!

A:Probably a stupid bandwidth/speed question

The bottleneck is your connection speed. That's a significant speed reduction. A separate modem/router setup will certainly not do anything to make it worse, but it also won't help.

Hello everyone!
I manage a Windows XP SP3 network of 10 computers that share one large DSL connection.
I have the need to monitor bandwidth speed (not used amount of traffic) usage by other computers on network.
I have to mention that there is no way for me to install some client type application on other computers, all i have is regular LAN access to them.
Is there a way to accomplish that? Any genius soft ideas or advices? Cause I've been looking around for some time, and did not see it possible.
Thanks a lot in advance.

I have a Dell XPS L322X with an i7 cpu. The computer has been running very hot, so today I removed the heat sink (4 screws) and cleaned the vents, put on some thermal paste and closed the kit up. Now it is running more cool but very slowly. What did I do wrong?

A:Drop in CPU speed

I suggest checking the bios and make sure that the processor is detected correctly.  Start the system tapping F12 and choose bios.  The general page should have all the information on the processor and take a look and see if ti looks correct.  If not, you may want to take a look at the processor itself and make sure that it has a good connection to the socket and to the heatsink.

If the processor looks good in the bios, then take a look at the advanced tab and check on speedstep, toggle it on and off and test both and see if there is difference, test with the AC adapter connected.
You can also try setting the system to defaults, choose the exit tab in the BIOS and choose Load setup defaults and choose save and exit and see if that helps.
If you are able to get into Windows go into Windows control panel and choose power options, power plans and choose advanced and then High Performance and see if that helps.

Hey speed Suddenly and download minimal bandwidth half i recently received a brand new Huawei router Suddenly half download speed and minimal bandwidth from TalkTalk a few weeks ago and since we started using it my download speed has been roughly half of what it used to be kbps down to kbps and i find i have almost no bandwidth Also when i download games on steam the download speed acts in an erratic pattern Steam says it jumps to about kbps and then drops to about kbps meets in the middle at about kbps and then starts over again As well as this new speed drop i have an issue which has been present for years now No matter what i do in the router settings all of my ports are aparently closed even though i have uPNP enabled I used This To Check At first i thought it was our terrible old belkin Suddenly half download speed and minimal bandwidth router but this Huawei gives exactly the same results I used the program Open ports viewer and it showed me a bunch of ports listed as quot Listen quot quot Established quot and quot N A quot but none of them were for my Pc s remote address Can anybody shed some light on my situation Even an explanation of why TalkTalk internet is or why my router started launching Chinese rockets at me would be appreciated nbsp

A:Strange, abnormal variations in (DSL) Bandwidth Connection Speed...

It's hard to imagine this is a malware issue. I took a look at your log (unofficially of course, since I am not a security person), and the only thing odd I see is this Verizon Uninstall running from a temp folder.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Verizon Custom Uninstall Tracking] C:\DOCUME~1\LARRYS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\InstallHelper.exe /uninstalltrackingvendor=Verizon

I'm guessing this is really a Verizon issue, or perhaps your interior wiring. Don't know what else it could really be.

I may have solved it. Apparently, a game i downloaded, league of legends, installed a piece of software called pando media booster, a tool for rapid p2p file transfer, which i think it uses to fetch updates. This software starts upon boot and seemed to consantly use connection, about 50kbit/s. My guess is that, maybe due to incompatibility with win 7 or with my a/v it caused my network to become unstable. I disabled it and yesterday i could run a full game in league of legends without losing connection.

I found out using win 7's resource monitor. It seemed like a good tool, but if there are any other better (freeware) pieces of software for diagnosing network problems i would be glad if someone could provide me with a link

When transferring files from my external SSD/USB3.0 to my PC, the speed drops from around 300MB/s to 105MB/s.
It stays at 300MB/s almost 60% of the transfer, then it Drops.

What to do so that there is no Drop?

EDIT: Disabling the "Write Cache" for HDD in PC, the speed drops to around 45MB/s, instead of 105MB/s.

Hi

Over the past few days I have noticed a massive drop in the speed of my PC. Some of the side affects of this problem include

Taking over 10 minutes for the PC to statup
Some applications take up to 5 minutes for them to fully load up
My internet surfing has reduced speed but not to a degree of what my overall PC has
When listening to music it comes through slow and distorted
When typing it takes almost 30 seconds for the typing to appear on-screen
I have ran virus checks and deleted anything found by them, but still the problem occurs

Is there anything you can recconmend I do to solve the problem?

I can run any programs that will help you gain a better understanding of what the real problem is

I have Comcast Internet and up until a month ago or so I was downloading around 2mbs. One day, my download speeds got maxed at 200kbs (On Steam). (For non-Steam downloads ->) Sometimes they would start at 900kbs for a few seconds then drop down to hover around 50kbs on certain downloads.

Also, periodically my internet will stop and I just have to run the Win 7 troubleshooter and it fixes the connection after telling me the Gateway was closed or something.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1201616584.png
Sometimes my speedtest is around 140mbs. I just don't get it.

Recently upgraded my linksys router from b to g - the laptop connects to the network successfully and the signal strength reads excellent for most everywhere in the house. But the speed fluctuates drastically - dropping from 54 Mbps to 1 Mbps - especially if I attempt to run streaming video from the laptop. All the while the signal strength stays at excellent. Not a problem I ever encountered with the old router. Suggestions or explanations?

Hi,

Lately when I play CSGO, at certain times, my fps went down from 120 to 40fps.

When I'm at 120 fps, my cpu speed goes to maximum at 2.4 to 2.7 Ghz.
When I'm at 40 fps, my cpu speed goes to its default which is 1.8 Ghz.

I wonder why this happen sometimes. I can't even play properly at 40 fps and I don't know why my cpu speed goes lower to 1.8 Ghz. Other games are not like this. But my main game is CSGO so I need this to be fixed and stay constant at 2.4 to 2.7 Ghz. Please help.

My laptop CPU speed is 1.8 Ghz but it has a TurboBoost feature which can go up to 2.4 Ghz, maximum I notice is 3.0 Ghz but rarely, only up to 2.4 or 2.7 Ghz

A:CSGO Fps and CPU speed drop

Overheating possibly? Sounds like it could be throttling the CPU due to overheating.

Well, I installed the last RC of 7, just for fun, and found that my down speeds on the internet tanked. In Vista (slow as it was), I could achieve 13Mb/s on speedtest/speakeasy/etc. Now, I've upgraded to 7 for a bit, dual-booting, and the second I boot into 7, I can barely make 768Kb/s.

I have a sneaking suspicion that its a driver related issue, as 7 asked me to install an "optional" Windows update for Broadcom card drivers. Now, on Vista, I've stuck with the driver Dell provided the entire time, and there I get the 13Mb/s down. The strange thing is that up speed has not been affected, 2Mb/s in both Vista and 7.

I've disabled IPv6, as I don't have an IPv6 network, and I heard that caused problems with previous Windows installs (Vista).

Any ideas or solutions? (System Details at bottom)

Hello - recently web browsing using Firefox (v29.0) has become very slow/choppy/laggy.

I've performed speed tests with my ISP and I am consitently at 10mpbs down and 3mps up, which are the expected rates.

This appears to be specifically an issue with web browsing with Firefox.

I used Avast 2014 (free) as my antivirus and all weekly scans find no viruses.  I've also scanne my computer using Malwarebytes (lates version) and nothing has been found.

I'm a bit puzzle by this as not much has changed on this computer in the past few months.  I'm not sure if this could be a virus/spyware/malware issue or just poor firefox performance more recent revisions of the browser.

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi everyone first post to this forum - I am curious about windows transfer speeds I'm currently running a Dell XPS mid model with a USB card from Startech installed in the expressport It works great but windows pretty consistently does this thing where if I'm transferring files it Transfer speed Windows USB 8 drop 3 will start fast and then slow down by at least I Windows 8 Transfer speed drop USB 3 have attached a photo of this situation In this case I was transferring roughly gb of files from a LaCie drive RPM using eSata to a Western Digital drive in external drive using USB to about of the transfer I was getting mb s transfer speeds then it drops to roughly Windows 8 Transfer speed drop USB 3 mb s for the remainder This hasn't just happened on my laptop on my new desktop running W Pro the same thing can occur Is there a reason for this Is it a windows thing or a hardware thing I find it does it on USB keys as well - starts quick then quickly drops to about of the speed Any help in figuring out what causes this would be great thanks James

I am wondering if there is some problem with the Wlan Drivers / Windows.
I have a Intel AC7260 Wlan card with BT.
With BT off, I am achieving a speed of around 7,6 MB/s while transferring files over Network .
With BT on and no Device connected the speed stays at 7,6 MB/s.

Now, if I open Windows Settings>Manage Bluetooth the Wlan speed drops at once by around 2MB/s to around 5,2 MB/s and stays there. Once I close Settings, the speed goes at once up to the 7,6 MB/s.

Using the BT Device while transferring files the speed is 5,2 MB/s , no matter if Settings is open or not.

Seems that there is some problem with "Device Discovery" while it is not in Background.

Hi, at my house i have a 16mbps comcast connecion, normally we get a transfer rate of around 300-500 kpbs sometimes even 1mpbs transfer. I have downloaded a couple programs recently, i do not know if i got a virus or something. or if another program is taking more bandwidth. But i do not know if it a computer virus because every computer is slow. Could it be a virus on the home network.?

Hey there guys.

Basically all of a sudden my computer has started to dramatically slow down randomly.

It seems to be happening when I do something a little heavy like rendering, but generally doesn't go away and I'm forced to turn off my computer. If I try to ctrl-alt-delete to check mem usage I get an error saying it couldn't open. I have used this pc for a long time and it has always worked fine. I re-installed windows hoping this would help but it hasn't, leaving me to think its some kind of hardware error.

Please help

A:Rapidshare Speed Drop On Premium Account

I think you should read the rules on that: http://www.techguy.org/rules.html

We do not offer support for file sharing.

Hi,

I have a transcend cl10 sd card. I am using realtek builtin card reader from Thinkpad Edge.

When I first insert the sd card, the read/write speed is 8/12mbyte/s approx. It just about pass the cl10 rating of 10mb/s

However after I leave the sd card after sometime say 1hr, when I try to copy files again, the speed drop to 2-4mb/s.

If I remove and insert the sd card, its speed immediately rise back to above 8mb/s.

Is it possible to solve this problem.

Thanks.

I recently installed Linksys Router (Model RT31P2) sent to me by Vonage. After hoooking it up my internet speed dropped from 3 MB/Sec to about 800 KB/Sec. Vonage tech support is useless. Linksys support tried various steps but it didn't work. If I unplug the router and connect cable modem directly to PC, the speed goes back to 3 MB/Sec. I will greatly appreciate any help. May be there is a firmware patch that can solve the problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi there.

I used to have a BT Home Hub 2.0 and with that I was getting under 3mb even after getting my profile reset. So. I brought myself a Bipac 7800N that after setting up and getting profile reset again my speed was a amazing 6.20mb.

For some reason though, after about 3mouths of it staying at 6.20 it as now dropped to about 4.10MB. So, I'm just wondering how these settings should be set-up & if they is anything else I can do?

Has anyone had this upload slow speed? Sudden problem before I m running windows xp and all of a sudden Sudden slow upload speed? yesterday my upload went from around mb which is my limit for my ISP to anywhere between - kbps My download speed is just as quick as it s always been I have called my ISP Shaw and they suggested something is blocking my connection because my ping was either really high or really low I apologize I don t understand how ping works I just ran a speed test and the ping was at ms and the upload was kbps it took nearly minutes to calculate the upload speed I was told a virus could be blocking my connection so I have ran numerous anti-malware removal programs including Sudden slow upload speed? SuperAntiSpyware malware-bytes avira anti-vir cc cleaner spybot search and destroy they removed some viruses but still have not fixed the problem My ISP s customer service rep suggested that maybe download accelerator plus may be blocking it but it didn t fix it either I ve also tried a system restore to a point that was about a month ago I m completely lost and would rather not wait a couple days and pay the computer store to clean my computer I apologize for just joining and making this my first post but I m desperate Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance nbsp

A few days ago out of the blue my upload speed went down to practically zero. I know it's my computer because the other computers on the network can still upload fine. When I run a speed test the download comes back fine (~1275kbps on a 1536kbps connection) but the upload either doesn't finish or comes back at something like 10kbps. My connection for upload is 800kbps. I use qwest dsl. Thank you for any help.

A:Sudden upload speed slowdown

First of all, are you sure that the other computers are not uploading (P2P) and therefore use the bandwith?
If not, how is configured your connection ? (router, ethernet, wireless, usb)

I have 10 hard drives on my computer. 4 internal and 6 external (USB2). I noticed lately that one of the External ones (Seagate FreeAgentDesktop 1000) has a VERY low write speed when copting files to it.

I did a test with HD Tune Pro and low and behold, all of my other HDDs have a write speed of 25MB\s and the problematic one has a write speed of 5MB\s.

I did many kinds of tests on the drive but every one says that the drive is healthy. Not overheated, not fragmented, nothing.

I googled this issue and can't find any solution for this problem. Any ideas?

Thanks.

A:HD Sudden Slow WRITE Speed

That's actually pretty good to get that kind of performance on everything else on a system configured that way (must be XP). The most common speed I get on multiple external drives on one system is in the 15-17 MB/s but I do get a 5-6 sometimes as well.

It might have something to do with the write cache capability of the drive but USB is also a shared bandwidth protocol so the more USB devices that are attached, the more speed may be affected.

Possible solutions might be to convert some of the drives to firewire or eSata if possible, if using a USB hub, one or more ports could be 1.1 and also only use one external drive USB connection per one USB controller with nothing else attached which could cause bandwidth sharing. Also try playing musical ports and testing speed to see if its maybe just that drive or just that port.

Alright, here's how it went:

I was downloading some demo and playing one of my favourite online games when I suddenly lost my connection! Usually, this problem is fixed within a second or two, and I can safely re-connect to my game server, but this didn't happen. I then closed the game, and attempted to quickly fix this problem by using the winsock fix thingy-majigy. And it worked...

THOUGH.

When I opened my IE browser, it took a little longer than usual. Also, when I resumed my download, it was at a speed (roughly) 4 times slower--90kbs/sec instead of 400kbs/sec.

How did this ever manage to happen? I'd appreciate some insight.

Thanks,
Me.

Hi,

I just bought a new router the ASUS RT-N56U .

After setting it up getting ISP provided information everything seemed to work fine but i then i done a speedtest with the ethernet cable plugged in and it would start off at 8Mb/s then would instantly drop to less than 0.5 Mb/s Here is a picture of what it looks like http://prntscr.com/7z9jcl I don't know how to fix it because when im on wireless only it works perfectly fine is there anything i can do?

A:Solved: Get huge speed drop on ethernet cable not on wireless!!!

There are a lot a variables. How is your cable made? Is it a store bought cable? Did you make it? Is it run or is it just laying on the floor run from router to PC? A little more info might help but ultimately it might come down to without being there to test the actual cable and NiC we won't be able to know for sure.

I'm looking to do the rounds with all of the best software and methods. I think I may have drank too much one night and accidentally opened a downloaded "media" torrent which contained an executable and clicked to run it by mistake. Ever since there have been mild odd malfunctions which almost seemed so subtle that they were mere glitches as we see in all technology. Technology has a personality, at least mine. But suddenly the same programs I always run somehow seemed to slow the computer down immensely and everything began to freeze up. If I stay in one window I'm fine for a while but opening/closing programs is seeming to take triple the time than before.

I have a feeling there was a manual I missed but if you tell me what to do to just give my laptop a full check-up and colonoscopy I would be ever so grateful. (Windows 10)

Hi
We need to calculate network utilization for which we want to get the link speed which is shown in Windows Task Manager.
We tried getting this value from
1. new PerformanceCounter("Network Interface", "Current Bandwidth", networkCard);
2.  NetworkInterface.GetAllNetworkInterfaces()
     NetworkInterface.Speed;
3.   ManagementObjectSearcher searcher = new
      ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT Description, Speed FROM Win32_NetworkAdapter" );

            ManagementObjectCollection adapterObjects = searcher.Get();

            foreach (ManagementObject adapterObject in adapterObjects)
            {
                    var speed = adapterObject["Speed"];
but none of these values match the value shown in Windows Task manager in case of a
Wireless connection adapter.
Any help is appreciated.

When comparing speeds, remember to divide your speedtest result by 8. 0.89 mbps is around 101KBps.

Download speeds depend on many factors, inclduing the modem/router, traffic through your ISP at the time, and the type of download, just to name a couple.

What type of download is it? Are they torrents? These can often be slow.

Are downloads slow from everywhere?

You mentioned video buffering; Do you have downloads going at the same time that you are trying to view a video? Are there other people sharing your connection (eg other family members)?

You didn't say if you had tried rebooting the router/modem, or if you had been in contact with your ISP. These would be among the first things to try.

As you haven't stated what you have tried, I'm going to assume none of the following have been tried. Apologies if you have tried/tested the following.

If you plug a phone into the same wall socket at your modem do hear any noise/static or is is sound quality very poor or low volume? These might indicate physical line problems, which your Telco would need to address.

It's also possible the equipment at your local exchange is in need of a reboot. This is often referred to as a "Port reset". Your ISP can do this for you.

Other things you can try is replacing the phone and ethernet cable (if you are connected by cable), or replacing the line filter if you have one. If you have multiple devices on your phone line remove everything except your modem/router.

If you have a DSL connection you know that the speeds will vary dramatically from one hour to the next. But 2KBps is poor in any situation.

Have you tried doing ping and tracert to various sites? You ISP may want this information to place a fault report with your telco.

copy and paste results into an email to your ISP

ping www.google.com -t (Stop it after a minute or so).
ping www.yahoo.com -t (Stop it after a minute or so).

tracert www.google.com

See how you go with the above. Get back to us if you get no joy from your ISP/Telco.

I am using an AT&T 2Wire 2701HG-B Router, and it sucks.
I can't get another one so that's outa the question.
What can I do to speed up my internet connection?
As of now it's:

Crappy, I know. Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

A:How do I speed up my internet speed?

I, too have AT&T as my High Speed Internet provider, but through UVerse. I do agree that the routers they've been using have been falling on the crappy side. Some may have a different opinion/experience.

Anyway, ever since I've put my main tinkering-do-it-all computer in the DMZ, I've noticed a significant speed increase.

There are gotchas, though:

1. Once the computer is in the DMZ, it won't communicate with the rest of your home computers. It is USB SneakerNet time when moving/sharing files.
2. If you have important files, can't leave your computer running all the time. If you have to, then make sure the Windows firewall is on and your computer is armed to the teeth against viruses and spyware.

I do not recommend this setting for everyone. It's just that I noticed a big difference with downloads and overall internet experience. Also noticed a big time improvement in gaming.

Your mileage may vary and you may want to find out more about DMZ before trying it out.

I moved into a city that has 1gbps fiber and I got it. I set my computer up to run Ubuntu or Windows 7 in the Ubuntu OS I have full speed, like 980mbps but in Windows I can only get around 370mbps, they informed me that it was a know issue which is why they carry around laptops with Ubuntu instead of windows to troubleshoot there system. Anyone have any clue on this, I cant even imagine where to start looking for the setting or fix. Thanks

A:Limited fiber download speed in windows 7 full speed in linux

1gbps is fantastic. I suspect the Windows problem is a driver problem. Did you check the Windows 10TP. Maybe they fixed it. But then, the really big chunks you can always download with Ubuntu. I envy you, LOL.

I recently upgraded my internet service and found that speed test results from speedtest.net and speakeasy.com were giving me download results that were ~ half of what I was supposed to be getting ( 9Mbs vs 16Mbs). I called the ISP and they suggested I restart in safe mode w/ networking and run the tests again. I did and the results of the test were surprising. I was getting the 16Mbs download speed that I signed up for. The tech suggested that I may be infected with something. I run several free programs (Mbam, avg, avast, ect.) to try to aviod these things, but it seems as though something may have gotten through. Any help that you guys may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Btw, no error messages and I am running Windows XP. Thanks in advance.

Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode. Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox or Opera browser click that browser at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.NOW Scan with SUPEROpen from the desktop icon or the program Files listOn the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.Perform a Complete scan.
