Preferred Solution: Wifi doesn't connect to any network says identifying network.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I cannot connect to certain wireless networks.

- I can connect for example to wifi at my University or a public network such as The Cloud and even BT Open zone, all of these direct you to a page to logon - these work fine.
- I cannot connect to any other network, even if it is an Open network.
- I have endlessly searched Google and tried everything suggested on forums like this - however they were other peoples problems - this is the first time I have made a post.
- I have eventually caved and restored my laptop to Factory settings. The problem persists.

I have attached screen shots showing the exact problem and error messages.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

- Connecting via cable works fine - I am using that method now.

Shaun, firstly: welcome to Sevenforums!

May I suggest downloading Revo uninstaller: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems and using it to remove your wireless driver and all bits of it. This is because the built in uninstaller doesn't often remove everything. Now go online (you mentioned connecting via LAN line works alright) and find your wireless adapter driver for your computer (should be on the manufacturer's website). Install it, enter the network password, and let me know if this solves the problem for you.

Hi all,

I followed this tutorial, and after playing around with it for a couple of days, decided to remove the ad-hoc network through the manage networks window. After removing it, I have been unable to connect to any wireless networks, I've tried deleting the profile and creating a new one, reinstalling the driver, updating the driver, nothing seems to work. I really really do not want to do a reinstall, and I was hoping you guys could help me get my wireless back up and running. Right now I'm using wired, which will work for a while, but I'd still prefer to get wireless working, since my wired isn't in the most convenient location.....I have an Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN adapter on my ASUS UL20A-A1 laptop.

Thanks for the help !

A:WiFi doesn't connect after creating/deleting an ad-hoc network

Try running this batch file which will reset winsock, reset the TCP/IP stack and release renew your IP.

If this doesn't get it working then please post a screen shot of your ipconfig /all .

Download Renew IP + Reset Winsock Batch File

A:Wifi stop working. Win10 shows only one network and it doesn't connect

I did a restore factory with HP recovery (I've a dedicated drive for it) and....it worked!
I had to upgrade Win8.1 to 10, but the Wifi problem is solved!

I'm still guessing which was the problem...
Now I'm running Intel drivers ver. 18.30.0.9 and all the networks are working.

In the next days I'm trying to check the linux problem (the factory reset deleted Elementary partition).

A:Unable to connect to internet (Identifying network)

Hello willmon2000,

Wow, that is the tiniest screen shot ever! Have you tried hard coding your IP settings to see if its just a DHCP issue (IP, SN, GW, DNS)? Give that a shot; find an unused IP and use that on the machine thats having a difficult time connecting and report back.

If you're not sure how to do that, visit: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/

A:laptop identifying network but will not connect fully

can we see an ipconfig /all and ping test
have you a security suite /fireall on the PC or ever had like Norton, mcafee trail version?

how are you connecting - cable or wireless

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
post back results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
For your information only
these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router the next two
Ping google.com & Ping 209.183.226.152 tests the connection to internet , one by name and one by number which checks that the dns is workingClick to expand...

I'm having the most bizarre issue with like machines in my network all Windows Ent x Basically for some reason these machines lose the Domain network profile once a day randomly and it's always after the GP is applied automatically The thing is I got another couple of hundreds of machines under the same set of policies confirmed with GPResult and only are affected so a GP is not the issue of the affected machines is in another location with a different subnet router switch ISP different everything network-wise There are no local firewall rules there was however a rule blocking inbound Explorer exe connection for domain profiles only but this can't cause any harm the rule was deleted just in case though nbsp Running GP update manually or waiting for the automatic policy request does not changes to after GPO network applied None/Public/Identifying Network randomly is profile reproduce the problem The issue can happen at any time and under any circumstance whether Network profile changes to None/Public/Identifying network randomly after GPO is applied the user is logged on or not computer locked or not etc When the issue happens the network icon has a yellow exclamation sign and it is quot Identifying network quot until the next policy update On the Firewall service logs I can see how the Network profile changes back and forth a few times ending in Network Profile None The computers are different models Network profile changes to None/Public/Identifying network randomly after GPO is applied between HPs and Dells An IPConfig renew or a computer restart fixes the issue until next day when it happens again I have set a scheduled task to renew the Network profile changes to None/Public/Identifying network randomly after GPO is applied IP every morning and provided a script for the user to manually kick of the task in case it happens anyway But for the life of me I can't figure out what's causing this issue on out of hundreds of computers in different physical locations I enabled GP debugging in the affected computers to look in detail what may be overlapping or triggering what should not be triggered I lean towards a GP issue because the affected users are all part of the same group user policy maybe Not sure Any ideas will be greatly appreciated maybe I'm missing the obvious or you have experienced an issue like this and want to share your experience Thanks ahead nbsp Miguel Angel Mojica IT Administrator Server Administrator MTA CCNA CCDA

How far away from your computers is the router? Also; have you tried to power cycle the modem and router? If not; i would try that. Unplug both the modem and router; wait about a minute; then plug in the modem first; let that boot; then plug the router back in and let that boot. Try doing that and see if it helps the situation.

Yes, I believe this should be a easy fix for ya. The first and easiest thing to try is to power cycle both the modem and router so it will "reset" them both. Unplug both of them for about a minute or so; then plug the modem back in first and let that fully boot; then plug the router back in and let that fully boot. If that does not fix the problem, then i would go into the device manager in the control panel and completely uninstall the wireless adapter(s) reboot; and let windows re-detect the adapter(s) and reinstall the drivers for them and hopefully that will correct the issue.

My computer is having trouble connecting to one single wifi network. I have other devices connected to the network, so I know it works, my laptop won't connect, though. I thought Windows 8 may have been the problem, but it will connect to any other wifi but this one. I looked through this thread http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1027100-laptop-wont-connect-one-particular.html but it wasn't particularly easy for me to understand.

I have already done the easy troubleshooting steps, such as turning airplane mode off/on, forgetting the network and re-signing in, etc.

Thank you for your help!

I am not being able to connect to any of the wifi networks. When I try to connect it keeps saying "Can't connect to this network". I've tried searching solution for this in eightforum and Google but none worked. Things I did:
Forget network & tried reconnecting
Reset router
Uninstall/Reinstall/Update Network adapter drivers
Clean install windows 8

The last time I was able to connect to the network was a week ago.

I found that when I turn on hotspot in my android smartphone, my laptop gets connected to it. But I can't connect to any other wireless networks.

So guys can you help me resolve it?

Welcome to Eight Forums,

Just a little experiment to do.... if your laptop has a bluetooth try disabling it, that goes as well to the ethernet adapter.

My fully updated Windows 8.1 notebook suddenly will not show any wifi connections when I click on the icon in the system tray (it shows "No Connections are Available", although it is connected, and I can surf and browse normally).

To connect to a new network, I have to manually enter the details of the network, and then it connects. This is something new, since previously it would show all the available networks, and allow me to make a selection (which is normal). What setting could have flipped do enable the above situation?

Thanks

Hi,

I have faced once situation when one of the wifi network (ssid) disappeared from the available networks. Manual reinstalation of wifi nic drivers helped. I had to use drivers directly from laptop's vendor. Those from windows update didn't work properly.

I have two computers: a desktop with no WiFi (Ethernet only) and a laptop (Ethernet and WiFi).

Using Ethernet on both computers I am able to see and share files both ways and all works perfectly. Using WiFi on the laptop I can connect with the desktop machine but not the other way around.

The diagnostics on the desktop computer report "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer. Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing." I've tried all the standard methods to resolve this issue but nothing works. In any case, surely if this were the problem I wouldn't be able to use the Ethernet connection and the laptop wouldn't see my desktop machine?

Disabling the Kaspersky antivirus/firewall makes no difference.

At wit's end! Can anybody help?

Hey all!

Few days ago I got Acer V5-531. On this laptop, I can easily connect to wireless networks, but my home one. I could do it on my old laptop with no problems. How is it possible to solve this? It's getting quite annoying, especially knowing that this is the only network I can't connect to. In case with this network, it prompts password and then says "Unable to connect".

What have I tried

Air Mode is off
Updating/rolling drivers back
Resetting the router once (owned by neighbor, thus, I cant perform all maintenance on it)
router lights are on
pw is correct
wireless switch is on
What else can be done?
Thanks all!

Often with that adapter you need the driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

I think that adapter is not compatible with WPA2. Try with no encryption and if that works then try WPA-PSK.

A:How can I connect to a WIFI network on Windows XP?

so is it a dual boot with a choice of W7 or XP
or just XP

can we see an ipconfig /all
------------------------------------------------------------------------

ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

For Windows 8 or Windows 10
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/open-an-elevated-command-prompt-in-windows-8/
Use Windows + X Keys together and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.Or Right click on the windows icon - bottom left hand side - A menu appears - choose Command Prompt (Admin)[/indent]

For windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R
Now type CMD
Now press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt
It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

A:How to connect firewall to my WiFi network

You seem to have the general idea. In fact, the idea would be to turn off DHCP on the old (wireless) router and enter the address of the new router as the old one's gateway. That's pretty much all it would 'generally' take. However, if you have VDSL, then you would need to purchase another VDSL router. In which case, you might as well just purchase one that has the wireless and not have to worry about all of the configuration issues.

However, I looked up the Netopia 7347-44 router and, from what I could find in the manual, it appears as though it does have a firewall already built into it. Check it out here: http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Video-Solutions/Products/Wireline%20Networks/Gateways_and_Routers/DSL_Gateways_and_Routers/7347-44_7357-44%20Netopia%20Voice%20Integrated%20Access%20Device%20Gateways/_Documents/_Static%20files/7347-44%20Data%20Sheet-556054-001-b.pdf Al right, that's not the *complete* manual, but it specifically states that it has 'Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall'. Might want to browse around in the router configuration utility and see what you can find.

If that's not your router, then you should be able to simply do as above and be good to go...

Good Luck!

1) Check the password you put in and make sure its written correctly with the right case (lowercase/uppercase).
2) Disable any 3G/4G connections if you have any.

If that doesn't work giive me more information about your network:
1) General network layout (two computers, one laptop/one desktop, w/dsl modem to a residential gateway, etc)
2) Also, tell me what security mechanism you have on your wireless access point (WEP, WPA, WPA2). If you're using CCMP/AES and you have an older computer then you may not be able to use them together.

Running Win 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. Long established wireless home network with 3 other computers connected all running XP home 32 bit. Network works fine for internet access and file sharing. Cannot get a connection to Dell AIO A960 printer.

Tried loading the driver from the printer CD, but can't get past the first dialog window. Also tried installing in compatibility mode for XP and Vista. No joy. Dialog box stating incompatibility with OS in all attempts. Suspect I need 64 bit compatible driver, but have no clue where to get it.

Computer is new HP G71 17" laptop. Checked the Dell site, no joy Tthey have the A960 listed as NOT compatible with Win 7. No reference to 32/64 bit. Haven't been able so far to get through to HP Support. Hung on the phone for almost an hour today listening to background music along with commercials and repetitive reassurances of how much HP valued my business.

Any help much appreciated.... Raybro

The WiFi doesn't show or identifies any network available. Those networks can be seen connected in other devices though. The diagnostic setup has to be run on the laptop to get things back to normal. This is a frequent problem being faced by me. It arises any time and there is no fixed duration. The problem can re-arise just 2 minutes after the things have been sorted using diagnostic setup or it might not come for hours altogether. Please help!

I've since deleted the connection and tried restarting my network adapter and rooting around to find anything out of place but can't. any help would be appreciated!

I can also add that it does connect to routers, but as local only, and always shows up as unidentified.

I have a new iPhone 4Gs. at work I noticed under available networks that there is one labeled 'Free Public WiFi' but when i try to access this i get no where. no error messages come up or request for password. Mainly I'm trying to use this wifi for FaceTime connect with the iphone. I am told that others try to access this network and can't get to the internet either.
What could be the problem? the strength is about 50% but even when I walk to an area that is supposedly FULL strength signal it won't work then either. the DHCP address is:169.254.106.123 subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

A:trying to connect to wireless WiFi network at work

Well, you most likely answered your own question. Others that try to connect can't either. I'd suggest that maybe that free public WiFi isn't working.

For the fastest repair option, you could do a repair install.

Repair Install

You do not need to upgrade your OS to fix the issue.

When did this start happening?

Install any hardware or software recently?

Hi,

I tired to allow my windows 7 laptop to print over the network, and after 3 hours gave up as nothing seemed to work. I must have done something because now i can not connect to WI FI at all or Ethernet.

It says on the system tray Not connected and below that connections available, and under wireless network connection it says it is connected to my wireless connection but i can not connect.

Please any help would be good, i have no Home group with, not sure if this is something i did, it's all a blur to me.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

A:Cannot not connect to WIFI or ethernet after trying to config network.

Have you tried plugging in an ethernet cable to your router directly to see if you connect?
Have you factory reset or power cycled your modem?
What configs did you change if any? Do you remember?

On my laptops...if it shows connections available but unable to connect resetting the modem usually fixes it up

I am unable to get my laptop to connect to the internet when my wifi network has any type of security option or authentication selected. i want to password protect my network and it shows that the network name and passphrase i selected are correct on the router setup page. I can connect to wifi just fine when there is no authentication set on the network, but when I change it to WPA2 or WEP or any type of security on the router setup page, my laptop is able to find the network and connect with local only access. it gives me the option to reset the network adapter or generate a new ip address, but the problem still persists, and the connection only works when there is no password. is it my laptop or the router that is the problem. it has worked previously with a different router with password security.

can we have the wireless adapter make and model - will be in ipconfig /all

Post an ipconfig /all

also have a read about a particular issue we are seing on vista with an AR5007 type adapter - which may apply if its the same adapter and you are on vista

Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007
We have recently been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapter over the last few months, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines
- the poster did an online scan for driver updates on the HP website here HP Product Detection which resulted in a solution. Solved: Can't connect to internet wirelessly - Atheros AR5007 Wifi through Clear Comm - Tech Support Guy Forums

If you can post the Make and EXACT model of your PC here, along with the windows version you have and we will see if we can find the driver and will post a link as a reply here.

--- 3) On one occasion re-setting the router back to factory default and re-configuring the router settings has resolved the issue

--- 4) A few posters here with the same issue have found that the driver from this site ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows resolved the issue

A:Cannot connect to wifi, network driver missing

Hi: You need these drivers... Network controller: This package contains drivers for the supported Broadcom Wireless LAN Adapters in the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems. File name: sp57965.exe Video Controller:  You posted you are running W7 64 bit, but your notebook came with W7 32 bit. You would need to use the 64 bit graphics driver directly from Intel for the 64 bit version.  2nd one on the list. Note:  I think the Intel driver site is messed up because when I click on the link to get to the driver, nothing happens, and this has happened to me twice today. You may have to wait until after the 4th of July holiday to get the driver if you have the same issue. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/intel-graphics-media-accelerator-3150-intel-gma-3150.html

Have you tried just clicking on the network name and clicking on "Connect"?  If you then can't connect you should be able to "Forget" it.

BTW, if you are using Windows 8.1 without Update 1 then you will not get a context menu when you right-click a network name.  If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 with Update 1 then you will see a context menu.

Hi, can anybody please help me set up a wireless access point?
I have an Acer aspire 5315, recently removed Vista and installed Xp SP3 with SATA Drivers. I'm trying to use an Atheros AR5007EG network adapter to set up a network. My computer comes integrated Intel/PRO Wireless 2200BG Acer InviLink 802.11b/g LAN connection, and i'm using a usb vodafone huawei broadband modem to connect to the internet. I need to learn how to configure internet connection sharing and to create a connection so i can access the internet on my iphone.

I've updated the drivers for my network adapter but im pretty clueless on how to go about it from here... any help would be incredible.

Thanks

A:Solved: help creating a wifi or ad-hoc network to connect my iPhone

You need a broadband wireless router. I would recommend Linksys, although that is just personal opinion.

Hi all,

Hope you guys can help, I need to connect a USB only HP Deskjet 1320 to my wireless network (running a Belkin N+ router). I found the HP JetDirect, but I can't afford the $150 price tag...can I get a regular router that connects USB printers to my wifi network via ethernet? Would that work? I can dedicate an old Powerbook or an HP laptop as a print server, if that would make things easier.

Thanks a bunch, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Cheapest way to connect HP Deskjet 1320 to Wifi network

Well, you can connect the printer to a computer and share it on the network. If that HP laptop has bootable system on it, that would be free it would appear.

A:Cannot connect wifi printer to new Verizon FIOS network

The printer is successfully connecting to the router via neither Wi-Fi nor ethernet and is not connecting successfully to a computer via USB. The common element here seems to be the printer. Suggest you try resetting it to factory defaults and see if that helps.

A:Prompt wifi password each time i connect to the same network.

Hello,

Two things for you to do:

- Update your Wi-Fi adapter's driver to the latest driver.

- Remove all your wireless network profiles to refresh your wireless connection, here's a Tutorial by Brink. Manually re-add your SSID or wireless network with the correct pass-phrase.

See if the above suggestions worked, if not we'll move on to the next troubleshooting task.

I do a lot of wifi hotspot testing over Teamviewer. When the hotspot doesn't work I lose the Teamviewer connection. Is there any way to make Windows connect to a specific network after about 60 seconds or so?

If I can choose the specific wifi network to make Windows to connect to after a set amount of time my life would be much easier!

A:[Q] Make Windows Connect to Specific Wifi Network After 60 seconds?

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

So, there are two or more Wi-Fi SSIDs that you are authorized to connect to in the remote location?

Others in the forum might have a better way to do this, but I would use AutoIt in a ping loop - if the ping fails - then double check - if ping still fails, use netsh to create a connection. Or use the info here or here.

So I've had my wifi working fine up until yesturday when I went to my friends, tried to find a network their, his apartment had a guest network that pulled up a CISCO login page but he didnt know the password so I didn't bother. Now I bring my laptop home and it wont find any networks including my own, which it was on just a few hours before. Tried uninstalling the driver, reinstalling via Windows 7 reboot. Updated a newer driver from Toshiba, and enabled and disabled the function-f8 key (wifi) many times to see if that was the problem. Be nice to have my wireless back if anyone can help.

I attached a screenshot of my ipconfig. thanks

download and copy xirrus onto the pc - and post an image back here

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
you could also try removing all the wireless profiles and reconnect with the wireless key again
------------------------------------------------------------------------

A:Can my Laptop simultaneously connect to a 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz Wifi network?

You can stream HD movies fine at 150Mbps or even less but it depends on how much of the bandwidth is being used by your neighbors. This can be a big problem in some areas. You won't be able to use both frequency's at once.

Finding the best clean channels to use are what matters most on 2.4 GHz, channel bonding comes in handy sometimes but works best when the channels are mostly clear.

5Ghz is better in this respect because hardly anyone is using it so you tend to get all the bandwidth to yourself but the drawback with 5GHz frequency is that it won't go through walls worth a darn so it's really only useful for open area's outdoors or for large rooms.

I'm running the Asus AC66U router and the Asus PCI-e AC66 NIC which usually runs about 877.5-1.1 Gb. I can stream multiple YouTube video's while watching movies although I could also do this using the 2.4GHz frequency at 300Mbps.

Hello and thanks in advance for your help. I have an Acer Inspire laptop running Windows XP. A few months ago it suddenly stopped connecting to my home wireless network, while all of the other computers in the house connect to the network without a problem. The network still shows up in the list of available networks; when I click on it to connect, it looks like it's trying to connect but it never actually does. Okay, usually when you hover over the networks listed and available from the taskbar icon, you get a nice little window with a few helpful tidbits of info for each listed network when you mouse action hover over the names. It tells you the encryption type, and the SSID, plus a few other details.

Well, on my computer, the information is appearing behind the list to where I can't read it. The network list is overlapping on top of the hover info. Talk about annoying. I searched for various things on google, with no luck. I tried:

Windows 7 network list obscuring hover details, and various other combinations to no avail. Anyone here have a clue what might be breaking this? I'd like the hover details to appear properly so I can read it. In the meantime I've installed the free version of Acrylic Wifi to work around the issue. Thanks.

A:Wifi Network info/details appearing behind Network List on hover.

The problem must be driver based or an add-on program because I don't get any of that. All I get is the name and whether it's connected or not. Check that your adaptor driver is up to date and/or the program you use to display the data is up to date.

Forgot to mention:
Dell adds "bloatware" to their PCs to "improve the user's experience" so I would check Dell Support for your specific model and look for updates.

Hi

I've just bought a new laptop with windows Vista pre-installed. Now I want to connect to our wireless network. This works, but just local. Whenever I connect to our network it first identifies to the local network, which works. But after that he can't connect to the internet.

Anyone knows this problem or knows how this can be fixed? Under here there's how it looks like, it's dutch lol, but you probably can figure out what is what.

A:Keeps identifying to network

Hi w1nx, and welcome to the Vista Forums

First thing I would check is the WEP/WEP2 key if this is incorrect the system will still connect to the network but not connect to the internet.

What I have found to work in the past with regard to not identifying the network is to re-start the "Network List Service" (netprofm) once you have the network set to either public or private (as you want) you should get Internet access.

What happens if you click on the red cross to start the diagnostics?

So I'm running Ultimate x64 using Outpost Pro 6.7 when the pc boots up it says identifying network. This takes at least 3 minutes to do. I turn off OP and reboot it starts immediately (OP not running). Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I have been searching for days to no avail. I am kinda partial to Outpost. Once it identifies the network everything works. I can share files with other pcs and all. I am also using Linksys WRT54G router with OpenDNS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also posted over on OP forums with no response yet. I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this.

Hmmm

Is OP running as a service? If so, can it be started delayed (although this would increase a security risk at first, it should be a minimal risk to you)

I'm building a subscription wifi network for our area.

Cisco Aironet 1550 series: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5679/ps11451/data_sheet_c78-641373.html
Proxim Orinocor series: http://www.proxim.com/products/enterprise-wireless-lan-wi-fi-mesh/orinocor-wi-fi-mesh-series

The Proxim seems like the better product, and sells for a bit less.

Will I need to purchase anything else besides several of these for the network? I'm assuming the 'home' router connects to a PC (or the PC via the gateway address) for managing the network.

Thanks allot for your insight.

Is there a way to setup network profiles or something so that when I bring my Surface Pro to work and connect to the wireless network there it will use the static ip address I have but when I disconnect and then connect to my home wifi it will go back to DHCP? On my MacBook Pro I can go into the network settings and change the location profile I have setup for networks but I don't see anything like this for Windows 8.

A:Specific network settings based on wifi network

You can go into IPv4 Properties of this NIC, then you can use the Alternate configuration tab to set up the alternate IP, or use the Advanced tab to add a static IP/gateway/DNS etc. to TCP/IP.

Earlier my laptop used to connect in bedroom as well..This is happening lately. Is there any solution?

Hi there @Dee85 Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having troubles with connecting to your home network; I am happy to help. Have you tried connecting to a different network with this notebook?Does the wifi (available connections) show up on your notebook at all?Have you tried resetting your wireless router? The error you are getting sounds like the router is not passing on a local IP address to your notebook. The problem could be on either side of that. Try working through these.Troubleshooting wireless network and Internet (Windows 8)Also, you can look at the power management for your wireless adapter:Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)2. Expand the Network adapters.3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.4. Click the Power Management tab.5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.6. Click OK.7. Test. Forget the network: (Windows 8)1. Press Windows Key + C2. Click Settings.3. Click Change PC settings.4. Click Network on the left.5. Click Manage known networks.6. Click the network name.7. Click Forget.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.3. Expand Network adapters.4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.6. Restart your PC and test.Test an ethernet connection:Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.Test another connection:Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network.
