Okay this is a very odd problem What happens exactly is that at what seems a random point of of stops period working time at random Sound time usually long after the computer s Sound stops working at random period of time been turned on though a very loud buzzing and static-y sound will start playing from my speakers or headphones if they re plugged in This goes on for about seconds and then all audio cuts Oddly enough if I even try to play a sound say I press Play on a song in Winamp it won t even play the song at all almost as though it knows the sound won t work If I let a video play there s a big lag time before it starts and then it plays but without sound If I wait long enough usually about minutes the sound comes back I at first thought it might be my speakers considering they re almost years old but when I noticed this would happen to my headphones too I figured it was the sound card My sound card is a Creative SB X-Fi Any other information that you need please just tell me I hope this problem isn t as odd and uncommon as I think it is P All help is greatly appreciated Thanks nbsp
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
What are your complete system specs? Have you tried updating the sound card drivers directly from Creative's support site?http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/sound-stops-working-at-random-period-of-time.122224/

I recently purchased the Acer Aspire 5755G laptop for gaming purposes, for the first couple of days it worked just fine but now I'm witnessing random freezes which cause my system to crash for a moment and when it happens, I'm hearing a weird (terminator?) sound from the speakers. I overclock my GPU when I play games but I'm sure it isn't a GPU problem since this happened before I even started overclocking the GPU. I'm not sure but I think that the CPU is the main cause of my system crashing.
Intel i5 2430M CPU (with Turbo boost)
nVidia Geforce GT 540M

Hope you guys can help me out with this annoying problem

I'm a computer enthusiast since a kid in the early 80s, and I often help a lot on forums, and the number of times that downgrading anything has been a good thing to do is probably less than 3 or 4 (besides going back to 7 lol - kidding - 8 is same stability). It's so common to see that advice, so I don't blame you.
It's probably antivirus or some driver issue.
If you run the tool in Brink's thread then post the results here, we'll get it good.
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions
This is my first time ever posting, I am sorry i didn't write down the error code normally i would just Google it and search in the dark until i find some help, This happen at random times my sound would get screwed and my screen would go black with BF3 and then BSOD, for lineage 2 the sound would get screwed and the game would crash and get all hay wire, and all my applications will crash and refuse to start until i reboot. I upload a zip file with the crash dump and everything else

Hey everyone I looked around a bit and although I found quite a few similar issues I was unable to find any exactly like the one I'm having Basically every weekday during the approximate hours of am- pm my internet will constantly drop By this I do not mean it completely stops working I mean that every few seconds or minutes my internet will cut out for about seconds The reason that this is such a huge problem is I play online video games and working random part-time hours quite often places me in between these hours when playing Also these drops take place even if I'm not on games My computer will usually be the only one online and no matter what I'm doing even just doing something like reading an article online the problem persists Period Random Time Specific During Internet Drops My ISP is Comcast and my router is an ASUS RT-N U Here is my system information Quote OS Name Microsoft Windows Home Premium Version Service Pack Build Other OS Description Not Available OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name KYLE-PC System Manufacturer System manufacturer System Model System Product Name System Type x -based PC Processor Intel R Core TM i - CPU GHz Mhz Core s Logical Processor s BIOS Version Date American Megatrends Inc SMBIOS Version Windows Directory C Windows System Directory C Windows system Boot Device Device HarddiskVolume Locale United States Hardware Abstraction Layer Random Internet Drops During Specific Time Period Version quot quot User Name Kyle-PC Kyle Time Zone Eastern Daylight Time Installed Physical Memory RAM GB Total Physical Memory GB Available Physical Memory GB Total Virtual Memory GB Available Virtual Memory GB Page File Space GB Page File C pagefile sys I should also mention that the router is new and the problem existed before I bought Random Internet Drops During Specific Time Period it I believed that my old router was the problem and clearly I am wrong Also my router has a WEP on it so there shouldn't be anyone leaching off of my network These also are nowhere near peak hours which adds even more confusion I do live near a school which would normally be open around these hours However it's summer so that isn't the case Thanks in advance for any help
You should change your wireless security to WPA2 with AES encryption.
The WEP you are using now is outdated and easily hacked into and usually will not work correctly with Windows 7 drivers. This could also cause the connection problems you are seeing now.
You should also uninstall any third party A/V software on this system as they are famous for causing such as you are describing.
I keep randomly having BSOD on WIN 7 x64 when i left it on for long periods of time without using it. Sometimes though rarely, the whole OS will not respond to anything while i'm using and i have little choice but to use the reboot button. I have no idea what causes this issue. This has been happening since i got this computer roughly 1 year plus ago but i didn't really bothered till recently as it's getting more frequent. Was hoping someone can shed some light on to what is giving this issue to me.

The crash is due to your Marvell controller drivers for your hard disk. The drivers appear to be corrupted.
First uninstall through Device Manager. For the second time within the past two weeks I've had quite an annoying problem regarding my left mouse button on my synaptics pointing device, all of a sudden the left mouse button will stop working. The right mouse button and the rest of the touchpad will work apart from being able to click the LMB function. I've had this happen once before quite a few months ago but thought nothing of it at the time. This occurs for around half a minute to sometimes a minute before returning to normal and being able to use the LMB. I am using a Lenovo Z580 if that is any help to anyone.
I have tried searching around the internet for any information regarding this problem but I have not been able to find any solution or information connected to my issue.
Thank you in advance!
Hello LO mate when you click the button do you hear an audible click from inside the mouse it could be something as simple as a stuck micro switch.
Also if it is a wired one check the USB contacts too - in the plug and socket. You can clean them gently with a strip (about 5 mm with the corners rounded off) of old credit card with some lint free cloth around the end of it moistened very lightly with some alcohol
By the way just how old is the mouse?
I previously started a thread about this at Determine what happens on start up But that's days ago I apologize if I should NOT start a new thread instead of adding to the old one The issue is that from time to time say at least once an hour or more certain functions on the computer stop I cannot access the Internet I cannot ping I cannot launch a new application If I am already in say Word I can continue to edit Time From Stops Sort Windows Working of Time to that file But of course I cannot print Originally when this started it seemed to last as much as minutes Now it lasts about minute I've tried to write a batch file which will ping Google endlessly and note the times Windows Sort of Stops Working From Time to Time but that didn't work it echoed the time then pinged then echoed the time but the time didn't change echo off set i FOR L i IN DO echo time ping Google echo time Anyway a friend of mine who is in Windows Sort of Stops Working From Time to Time IT Support thinks this is an SMM virus That would be very bad news I think I've run MalwareBytes and Kaspersky and also Combofix and they all report no problems Does anyone have an idea where to go from here As for the ping failure the cable modem appears to continue to work in that my WiFi is not affected by this I am running an app called AirAndroid just started about days ago so well after this problem started And even though just now my session seemed to freeze this app correctly popped up a message it does when I get a text message on my phone So the Internet connection is working and apps can work Just not when they are initiated by user action AM And this morning seems much worse It's happened times at least already The last one at least minutes RONhttp://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/390333-windows-sort-stops-working-time-time.html
When I'm playing music with Mediamonkey (or other programs), after about 10 minutes the screen goes black and the sound stops, which is really annoying (I have to press any button to wake the PC up).
How can I change this?
Is your harddrive set to go to 'sleep'? Check your power save settings.http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/152017-sound-music-playback-stops-entirely-after-some-time.html
ok so everything is going smooth and then !BAM! the sound stops and the only way i can get it back is to restart my computer. (I have an SiS 718 wave) it happens at random. When im playing half life, or listening to music. But for some reson especilly Max Payne i can play that for about 5 to 20 minutes before the sound cuts out it happens at different times like sometimes i'll play half life for 45 minutes before the sound cuts out and sometimes for 2 hours before the sound cuts out. I've tried updating the drivers, and windows update, downloaded the latest service pack (by the way im running windows 2000) but it still doesent fix the problem So can anyone help me out please !!
I would suspect a resource issue of some kind, but have no idea what would be causing it out of the blue for you. Something similar used to happen when I ran MS Flight Simulator using certain planes and options. It was preceeded by a video slow down though and sound would be lost pending a reboot.
Do check that all your memory is recoginzed and that something is not eating into it such as background programs, good or bad.
The Task Manager can be used to check up on performance resources. Look especially at the "peak" value -- that really should never rise to more than 2/3 your physical memory for good performance. If it does, you don't have enough ram -- or too much of it is getting used for some reason.
Hi,I am deeply annoyed by an issue that has plagued this goddamn laptop since I bought it.My audio works normally for a few days, and then suddenly it stops working after a few days.I have the Bang and Olufsen speakers. I have reinstalled the drivers from the Realtek website a few times but this goddamn problem comes back, and drives me nuts. I can't tell you how much I hate this laptop, it came with this horrible windows 10 OS, and I can't tellyou how much I hate both windows 10 and this goddamn laptop which is plagued by so many issues, that I only bought it because I had no better options. The red X on the speaker volume means the goddamn thing has stopped working again andsays no audio driver is installed.HP and windows suck.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Audio-stops-working-all-the-time/td-p/5618758
So my sound has recently stopped working. What I did was I uninstalled the driver and restarted my computer and the sound worked then it stopped working after that. The sound options are grayed out and I am unable to hear. Could a virus be causing this? Everytime I turn on my computer I always get 35362.exe and random numbers like that. What type of virus is this? Is this a cause of this?>
I have also lost sound after an XP upgrade. I was told it is because the sound card in 8760C will not work with XP and I need to install a new sound card.
I took the back off and everything is so covered and hidden (multiple screwed on panels with no obvious way to remove them). I used a flash light to get a better look at the sound card and it looks customized for HP. It does not look like the Dell sound card I pulled from another unit.
So... where can I take this PC to get a pro to replace the sound card with something that works? Dallas, TX
So recently the sound on my desktop and my laptop has stopped working For seemingly no reason I really don't understand it I first noticed it with my desktop The sound just randomly stopped Sound Randomly Desktop and on Laptop Stops Working Working and working But not entirely It's really strange Sound on Laptop and Desktop Randomly Stops Working and Working and complicated what's been happening so bare with me while I try to explain it as best I can PC First time sound stopped working on PC Restarted computer sound came back no issues Second time I woke up to find VLC frozen Sound wasn't working I restarted VLC No sound Found out that there was no sound on the computer at all When I'd try to increase the volume on VLC it would only change within an interval of ten percent So it was at percent initially Would not let me go below but not above Sound didn't work anyway Restarted sound returned VLC working fine Third time I was playing Dragon Age Inquisition Sound worked fine using my headset Turtle Beach Went to speakers to lay down and watch some shows on VLC No sound on speakers Switched to Turtle Beach again sound returned Restarted VLC now suddenly no sound on VLC OR speakers Had to restart computer no issues after restart Laptop First time sound stopped working used the quot disable audio and reenable audio driver quot didn't solve anything Restarted sound came back Sound stopped working again same day restarted sound came back The next time I restarted the audio driver Realtek and then I shut down Explorer and then restarted explorer via the task manager Audio started working again Did same steps today sound not working Will have to of course restart my laptop One thing I noticed If there is something currently playing the sound won't go out for it even if sound goes out elsewhere So I had VLC running constantly and I could hear the sound from VLC while suddenly the sounds from everything else on the computer stopped working However once I restarted VLC sound stopped Only until restarting the computer or waiting for it to work again does the sound come back Other Info I find it weird that this is something happening to both my desktop and laptop at the same time I did a malware bytes sweep of my desktop found nothing Drivers are up-to-date My desktop is custom built I can't remember the MOBO right now but it's only a couple years old The laptop is about or years old at this point The computer seems to recognize that speakers are hooked up but when I would try and do tests it would say it cant' do sound tests So it HAS to be a driver problem it seems and not a MOBO issue Especially since my desktop the sound comes via USB
Update: I'm not at home to test my PC, but I think I discovered the issue. It seems to possibly be a glitch or something with flash player.
After watching an episode of Daily Show on Hulu, I went back to Tumblr and saw that a video didn't have sound, and then all sound on my computer was suddenly gone. I then tried something out, and shut down flashplayer. That temporarily brought sound back.
But it quickly went away.
Then I shut down Firefox and flash player entirely, and sound comes back even when Flash Player comes up.
What could cause this?
Recently I ve been running working hours Internet for stops time! at a into a very strange problem and I can t figure out what s going on My internet wired and wireless usually works fine but occasionally read every few days to weeks the connection will suddenly black out for a period of time anywhere from an hour to a day I have tried Internet stops working for hours at a time! resetting both my router and modem Internet stops working for hours at a time! and going through Internet stops working for hours at a time! all the settings on my laptop but I m pretty sure it s not my computer as no other devices can connect either During the blackouts when I look at the modem the internet light will turn on for a second then go off and then the red quot alarm quot light aka quot something is wrong quot light starts blinking like crazy and this keeps repeating This resolves itself after anywhere from a few hours to a whole day and everything is normal again The light show and the fact that I can t find any other problems leads me to believe that it could be a problem with my provider or the network itself and not a hardware or software problem but I can t be sure of this I can t find any answers on the net and I d really like to see if anyone else has seen this problem before Also during the blackouts I can connect to the network but it shows that limited connectivity symbol exclamation mark thing and says no internet I have a DLINK modem if that s any help nbsp
I think it all started when I tried to install TopoUSA V 4 to my computer. After that, when I go to MSConfig, I find that it is in "selective startup" mode. I have been able to manually start all services and startup items, but when I click on "normal startup" I get the message that "MSConfig has stopped working"
I'm able to start my computer just fine and it's working as I expect, but MSConfig is broken.
No help here. Msconfig is stuck on "selective startup", but I have activated all services and the computer starts up OK. Going to move on.

I'm using IE 11 Version 11.162.10586.0 Update Version (KB3139929) in Windows 10. A few days ago when I started IE it showed right away "Internet Explorer stopped working and has to close". I have no idea what happened but since than I have
to start IE as administrator and it works. I checked Java and it seems I've installed the right version. I have reset IE but that didn't help either. I've run the IE diagnostic tool but nothing came up and since IE is part of Windows now I can't uninstall
and reinstall it. Is there anything else I could try?
This is a strange problem. About every other time I turn on my computer it cannot connect to the internet. It goes like this: 1. Turn on computer2. Unlock Bitlocker3. Windows 10 Loads up4. Computer does not automaticlly connect to internet5. I click on the lower right hand wifi icon6. All wireless connections in the area show up but if I click connect nothing happens.7. If I click out of the wifi list and click back into it (by clicking again on the wifi icon) all the wifi signals are gone.8. If I reset the computer everything works and the internet connects I'm on a T450s, Windows 10. This problem happens whether or not I am at home, at work, or at Starbucks. It is a very annoying problem becuase I have to reset my computer every other time I want to use the internet. Any thoughts? I have spent a lot of time looking for the solution to the problem quoted in the topic title and I know that some of you experience the same. As it appears in a couple of threads it makes it hard to post a response in each of them, so I will create a new one.
The problem usually occurs on computers running p2p programs or other software that creates many connections. The problem is a bug in ICS (internet connection sharing), you can read a discussion here :
Vista RTM can't open new socket. - MSDN Forums
If you don't want to read the whole discussion, you can just check this link containing the solution :
After you configure Internet Connection Sharing in Windows Vista, the network connection stops working after one-to-two hours
Hope it helps

So I have a Xonar Essence STX with a turtle beach X12 headset hooked up all in the back. It seems that the microphone stops working after the computer has been on for some time. It seems pretty random. If I leave my computer and come back a few hours later. I can only seem to get it to work if I restart my PC! I can still hear that the microphone works, because I hear myself through the headset, but I can't record and nobody can hear me. I've tried multiple things, but the only thing that works is a fresh restart. Plz any ideas? I've updated to the latest drivers, messed with control panel settings. Went into the Xonar menu and tried switching the front panel microphone. Still Nothing. It's like something gets shut off and the only thing to turn it back on is the restart.

I used to have this thing when I started up my PC when I clicked or more tabs on FF very soon after first opening it the net just crapped itself and wouldn't let anything net related open aside from mIRC if it was open prior to the net going down but I couldn't open a new one only fix was restarting everything related x amount for working of internet stops time If I waited like - mins after startup it never happened The internet icon never changed and the troubleshooter would everything internet related stops working for x amount of time always say it was working fine Recently it's started happening at random times no matter how long the PC has been on even if I just click a forum banner or something- everything internet related will stop working refuse to open other than my mIRC window if it was already connected but I can't PM anyone or join any new channels Usually lasts - minutes and then the FF page that froze will load and everything will work again I've also tried IE and Chome same result It's become extremely annoying now as it's very frequent and can last from as little as minutes to mins longest so far I've downloaded nothing new added no new hardware and the PC is a gaming PC that I built around a year and a bit ago I've scanned with MBAM Nod and Zone Alarm they've come up with nothing I'm really hoping someone here has an idea what's wrong because I'm very close to just reinstalling to get rid of this huge annoyance Thanks in advance for any help
It's probably something running in the background since all browsers are affected. Try changing your AV from automatic to notifying you so you can update definitions manually. Think of other programs that are set to run in the background or since you built the unit, if your fans are sufficient since heat can cause the problem.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/everything-internet-related-stops-working-for-x-amount-of-time-575463.html
Not stops working random at Mouse sure if this is the right place for this but if not please point me in the right direction While using my work computer the mouse will randomly freeze on the screen as if the driver was uninstalled I reboot and everything is fine and works again I ve tried multiple mice that work fine on my personal laptop I tried to uninstall the through the device manager and reinstalling and still continues to freeze up I Mouse stops working at random feel like its a driver issue but I m not completely sure When it would freeze in the beginning I would just move it to a different usb that its never been plugged into and it d install the driver and the mouse would unfreeze However I ve now used every usb slot and that doesn t work anymore if I switch spots it stays frozen When I got the machine it would happen maybe once or twice a day Then it went to maybe once every couple days Now so far today I ve had to reboot times due to this issue this is really causing me issues because its slowing my development time down considering I have to reboot every minutes I asked someone in the office about this and they said they remember this happening with our former employee that used this machine and it was reformatted after that Which means its a hardware issue but this isn t confirmed I d like to make sure that s the issue before I have to have a new PC shipped Any help would be appreciated let me know if you need some sort of logs or whatever you may need Thank you nbsp

Over the last week or so, my Firefox stops working within twenty seconds of me starting it. It just says "Firefox has stopped working" and I'm forced to close the browser. Windows "searches for a solution" and all it comes up with is that "a problem" forced Firefox to close. There's nothing specific to go on. Then when I close the program and try starting Firefox again, everything's fine. It's just the first attempt that goes haywire.
I'm wondering if this might have something to do with Windows Vista, because I've only been using this OS for a few months and I never had a problem with XP. Help!
Vista is pretty much one massive headache.
Check your Firefox is completely up to date.

At no particular interval the wifi in my laptop turns off. I found that if I go into device manager disable and then re-enable it, it fixes it, but I end up doing this every other day and it really annoys me. Since I first noticed the problem, I have reinstalled windows ( for various other reasons ) multiple times, but the problem still exists. Is it a hard ware problem?
Have you tried plugging into a different slot?, you sure your drivers are up to date? and what is the model number?http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/121579-wireless-stops-working-random-days.html
Hey guys looking for some help. I have a Acer ES1 laptop running Windows 10. The problem i'm having is the 2 finger scroll stops working at random on sites like Youtube, etc. I am using the ELAN driver.
Any ideas how i can fix this. I am terrible with computers so if you don't mind dumbing it down for me, thanks alot
Go to Settings, Devices, select Mouse&Touchpad, scroll down to Additional Mouse Options, go to Elan tab, highlight the Elan smartpad and click Options, try switching to reverse scroll and other options to get the right settings which could work for you, I have attached my settings for comparing but you may have to try different options.

Hello, for a couple of days I started to get thoose sound bugs, it stop working for a second and then the sound continues again.
This happends when i'm watching a serie or listening to music, whenever I open a new tab on my chrome the sound stops for like a second maybe even a milisecond or so.
I'm not sure but I think it started when I wanted to clean some stuff from my HDD (C:), (my videos and games), my games was on my (C:) and I uninstalled them and installed them again on my (D:)
This first was not a problem because it was not a big of a deal, it happened maybe once a hour or so but now it happends more and more often.
This is starting to get annoying so I decided to finally try and solve this problem.

ok i start up my notebook and i have sound. then audio stops working .. well media players stop working a message says that a sound device is not detected. but i have sound it just stops.. i use to have a run code. this code showed a list of programs that start when i turn on my computer it showed if it was running or had been stopped. i use to fix the audio by starting my audio that had been stopped... but i dont have the run code anymore.. it was something like %systemroot% but it was longer than this
please if you have a clue of what i am talking about leave it so i can turn on the sound when it turns off for some reasoon
Check your default audio driver. Better uninstall it and reinstall a new one.

Hmm , sounds very strange , the only thing I can think of is your sound card may be on its way out but that wouldnt explain the program freezes.
Seeing as you did a fresh install of windows , the only other thing I can think of is that maybe an area on your Hard disk is damaged.
Past 5 weeks or so my internet connection has been having issues. Internet stops working for everything on the network. My computer (windows 7) doesn't usually say the internet is having issues during the disconnects, it says the network still has a connection to the internet, but loading a webpage in chrome gives me a DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET error. When i'm in a skype call while my internet does this, the call quality remains normal, but people in the call can't hear me, or my voice is excessively distorted. This lasts for 20-30 seconds till i drop from the call. In skype's call details it says i have BW_CRITICAL under my problems. My send packet loss also raises from 0%/0% to ~55%/360%. Just want an answer to why my internet is disconnected and how to resolve it. :/

I have a Compaq PC with Windows XP Home SP2 an integrated SoundMax sound card. It is almost 4 years old.
The sound card has always worked fine, until recently. However, now it will stop generating sound (ie., using iTunes or RealPlayer) periodically. Then if I re-boot it starts working again... for a while. Then it stops again.
I have tried updating the driver several times, and the sound will work fine for a while, but the problem is still happening.
Any advice on how to diagnose the cause would be greatly appreciated.
My acer (aspier v5 171 Series) (windows 8) has been working smoothly for 1 year now, but since couple of days the sound would go off if something is not being played for sometime. then I need to restart to get it back...initially I though it happens after I lock the laptop but today it went off even without locking.
all the sound icons like speaker icon, volume bar is functional but with no sound.
There is a Windows 8 forum. Since this is an issue with a Windows 8 system may be better to post there.

I've bought a set of new speakers for listening to music on my PC. However they stop playing randomly after a while. If I then go to the Device-manager and rightclick on the speakers (which is set as the default Device for sound) and do the test it works again for a while, whereupon the pattern repeats again.
First I used The built-in Realtek HD audio on my ASUS MB, and then I installed a Creative SB Audigy 2CZ sound card to see if it had anything to do with the Realtek-setup, but the patterne is the same.
Before I bought the speakers I uset my Headphones and never experienced these kind of problems.
Any help to get on with this would be appreciated.
First, if you installed a separate sound card, you must disable the on-board (RealTek) in the BIOS or they can conflict, and could even possibly cause the problem you are having.
Second, your "sound card", as listed in your specs is NOT the NVIDIA High Definition Audio, that is ONLY for HDMI audio.
Your sound card would be the SoundBlaster Audigy, if its still installed.

I'm having a problem with my sound when watching videos on GOM Player. While watching some videos the sound will begin to fade away and become quieter until eventually I cannot hear any sound at all. I have to exit out of GOM Player, then start it again for the sound to work.
I think it could also be an issue with GOM Player.
I've been able to watch some videos without any sound problems, but for other videos the sound always stops working after a few minutes. All of the videos are AVI files, and there doesn't seem to be any differences between them that would cause 1 to work but the other to not work.
Does anyone have some ideas of what the problem could be? My operating system is 32bit Windows XP if that helps.
If you other players work ok....try Kmplayer too then it would be a issue with Gom player...also maybe some of the AVI may be suspect also.

I'm using Vista, 32-Bit. Audio is Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 211, Version 4.36
HP Pavilion dv6700
When I updated my Conexant audio to 4.36, I had to reboot my laptop. The audio was working for a while, after then it randomly stopped working. I had this problem 1 month ago or so. The audio was not muted, it was enabled and it said it had no problems. I don't really know whats happening.
Roll back to the previous driver. Go to device manager, sound, conexant.Right click and go to properties. You will see the option there.http://www.vistax64.com/sound-audio/283696-sound-randomly-stops-working.html
Windows media player works but when i go to places like youtube it works for a little bit then stops .I restart my computer and it seems to work but then their is no sound again.I checked for viruses and got rid of them but it did not help. My volume is on but nothing plays but windows media player .I use an online alarm clock and it did not wake me up because their was no sound.
Edit: never mind, i just plugged in some headphones and removed them now it works.
Hi there So my computer has given me this problem in the past- and it righted itself Not this time I have a SoundMax onboard soundcard on a Gateway desktop and according to device manager everything is working fine but no sound could come from the speakers So I decided maybe it is a hardware thing- I happen to have another Creative stops working sound sp2 i xp restart when sound card here lets try it It worked Yay Then I restart and then sound stops working when i restart xp sp2 it stoped working too So now I have two sound cards one onboard one PCI both appear to be in total working order according to XP and neither emit any sound after I restart the machine so I am assuming this is a registry issue or something windows related Can anyone out there give me a hint I went to Start Run DXDIAG - Sound and Sound and both said they were working fine and no problems but when I ran the Test Direct Sound nothing came out nbsp

I have a Dell Precision 670 Win XP SP2 system. My Default Windows Sound Scheme has stopped working. I can hear the sounds in the Sound Scheme Setup when checked individually (Control Panel->Sounds...->Sounds & Audio Devices->Sounds tab). But the Program events such as as New Mail arrival, Critical Failures etc are NOT working! It is a minor issue but deeply annoying! In the Audio tab Default Device for Sound playback & recording are set to "SoundMax Digital Audio" & MIDI music playback is set to "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth" Speaker setup is set to "Desktop Stereo Speakers". Volume is NOT muted. I could not find ANY relevant postings on Microsoft site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
this is just for starters
do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it
if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system
if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create
this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )
now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps
performing a (sfc) system file checker
It is a scan that checks the core files & dlls of the (os) operating system and replaces them if they are corrupt or missing with the correct original version
#1 then select (run) , then press enter
a window will open
#2 type in ( cmd ) then press enter
another window will open
#3 type in ( sfc )then press enter
another window will open
#4 type in (sfc /purgecache) then enter / your pc will work like crazy / this helps in rebuiding the cache file (notice the space between (sfc & /)
#5 type in (sfc /scannow ) then press enter ( notice the space between the (sfc & / )
now a scan will start , have your (Windows XP software disk ready ) your pc may ask for this disc when it starts or during the scan( so you must sit with the pc while this scan functions ) , if it does then incert the cd into one of your cd/rom/player's , your pc will then reconnize it and continue , you will then have to minimize the splash screen for the cd to see the scan , when the scan is finished you will need to close the cd and all open windows , then remove the cd
you will then need to do a ( Disk Cleanup ) , then empty the caches & temp files thru the (Internet Options) , then do a defrag
restart your pc
then do a defrag again after the reboot
then get back to us

I realize that this may sound as a hardware problem but my problem really starts with a bizarre glitch I start using my computer as normal and suddenly there will be glitch or switch and the sys tray will switch from xp olive theme to classic view and often coming back to xp olive theme although not always The real problem starts after this happens any programs I have not started running before this happens have no sound afterwards the programs run fine be it players games etc except they will have no sound If I try to open winamp after the glitch for example stops working device Sound it will report an error although the appropriate drivers are installed When all of this has happened if I Sound device stops working check the sound and audio device manager there is no soundcard selected and no possibility of selecting one its all greyed out This is all solved once I restart my computer everything goes back to normal until the glitch happens again I have tried a few things re-installing the drivers and so forth None of it has worked Here is what I think are the relevant sys information VAIO model VGN-FS F a latinamerica Sound device stops working model operating system XP pro sp Intel R M processor GHz sound controller Realtek High Definition Audio Thank you very much in advance to any and all help I ve been trying to solve this on my own but its Failtown population Thanks you guys ps I edited this post from the last in two ways I deleted the link previously posted I m sorry to have caused any problems it was meant as a reference nothing else and I deleted such program from my computer so its no longer an issue The computer was donated to myself by my sister I m sure there s a lot of little nuggets of information and such that I haven t yet discovered nbsp

I'm using a computer built by a local tech guy with a monitor with built in speakers. Recently, the sound stops working in the middle of using the computer. When I reboot it, the sound works again. I read somewhere that flash content takes over the sound system and you have to reboot to get your sound back. Is there any truth to this? And what about Java, which I use for a chat room; can that do the same thing?
Hi GregCujo, and welcome to TSF.
Flash player is java based anyway so the answer is probably yes.
Try this fix and let us know if it solved your problem.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
First remove the older versions:Download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.
Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
Now let's download and install the newest version:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
Click on Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Offline and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Reboot your computer.
I have a laptop running XP home edition and all of the sudden my sound died . I didnt install anything , no updates , nothing . I just shut down my computer and turned it back on one day to find the sound is completely gone . Ive been trying for hours and I cant put my finger on what could possibly be wrong .
If I try connect speakers to the laptop then the speakers make a very loud and obnoxious buzzing sound . My sound card is Realtek AC97 audio . If I go into my hardware properties then it claims that everything is working fine , which is obviously false . Please help
Do you have the sound drivers, or can you download them from the manufacturer's website? If so, I'd uninstall the sound drivers completely, then re-install them to see if it clears it up.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/sound-suddenly-stops-working-47642.html

Hi So just a couple days ago my sound was working absolutely fine I started up my computer and noticed that there was no sound on start up despite the speakers being on I first checked the back of the computer and found that the speakers were plugged in as they had stops working.. Sound mysteriously always been but I disconnected them and reconnected anyways I go into itunes to test a couple songs still nothing The subwoofer however that was also still plugged in was working properly but no sound from the speakers The next thing I do is check out the sound in the control panel I try disabling and enabling restart system and still no sound I then checked the drivers which appeared to be up to date I uninstall and reinstalled them anyways still nothing I don't understand what could have gone wrong I can confirm that it isn't the speakers themselves as I tried them out on Sound mysteriously stops working.. my cellphone ipod and macbook and they worked just fine I have tried playing around with the cords putting them in the only slots they can fit in and nope still nothing Is it possible that my sound card decided to crap out randomly or is it something else And what can I do to fix it Please help
My sisters computer had a very similar issue recently. I reinstalled the drivers even though they were the same version/date. This worked.... temporarily. The sound quit again after about a week. I put a $35.oo Sound Blaster card in it and has been fine ever sincehttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/550512/sound-mysteriously-stops-working/

my sound works everytime i start my computer up
but after a few hours it stops working on youtube and vlc/foobar/media player
but when i hit log off, the sound works again (the logoff sound even plays.)
what is going on?
Please fill out the My System Specs to start with. We are in the dark as to what you have.
A good place to start is your vendor's sound drivers. Reinstall the latest vendor sound drivers.
Win2000. Built on sound card. Works for a time then stops. Have to reboot to enable again. Any idea?
My sound works it just stops working after so long of a program being open If i reopen the program then it works again for a lil bit I just recently put a quad core AMD Phenom II x and a nvidia GeForce GTS video card in my machine core in dual core died and my video card died replacing my old stuff I updated my sound stuff from my motherboard's website after it wasnt working and got a quot VIA HD Audio Deck quot which looks a lot better but has not helped as of yet I believe this to be either something wrong with the motheboard onboard sound or something pertaining to my sound and some form of privilege I have messed around with not allowing other programs access etc with my sound and has not stops working program for Sound current changed anything It might be good to mention that im currently running off gigs of memory somehow my nd gig stick went bad while my cpu sat idle for the past months
Does the issue occur while playing a specific program ?
Does it die after a specified amount of time on an application ?
Hi So randomly stops M17x Sound Alienware working. when I open my laptop up and it s been in sleep mode the audio stops working nbsp Scrolling the mouse over the speaker icon says quot No device driver installed Alienware M17x Sound stops working. quot or something along those lines nbsp A simple restart of the laptop has always fixed it nbsp I have only owned the laptop since the end of September and bought it brand new and it s been doing this randomly since day nbsp Tonight was different Alienware M17x Sound stops working. though restarting the computer did not fix the issue nbsp Tried restarting or times but still did not work nbsp Also the problem never occurs unless the computer goes into sleep mode nbsp If the audio is working when I am using the computer it will remain working and does not just turn off while I am using the computer Things I tried tonight Re installed driver from Dell website restarted - Didn t work Ran the BIOS which I found as a possible solution in a different thread on this forum restarted - Didn t work Looked in my audio device properties in the control panel while the problem was going on and it just said quot No audio device installed quot So finally I shut the computer off for a while and then it started working when I fired Alienware M17x Sound stops working. it up just now nbsp So as of right now it s working but I wonder for how long nbsp Any ideas on what else I can do or should I be looking into a warranty repair replacement issue here
I don't know if it is hardware or software related. I would have thought the BIOS but you tried that. Next time it happens check the Audio Service. Go to Start>Run and type "services.msc" (without quotes) then hit the 'Enter' key (or click 'ok'). The Services window will appear. Scroll down until you find "Windows Audio" towards the bottom of the list. Check that it is enabled, set to automatic, and running. If it isn't, double click on it and change the Startup type to Automatic, then click Start, Apply, and OK. If it stops in the future even when set to automatic then I would be suspicious of a problem with Windows itself.
That is all I can think of. Suggest that you post on the Alienware Club discussion board and be sure to tell them that you already have posted on the Laptop Audio board or else they might just send you back here. In the meantime you might get a better answer from someone else on this board.
It will be helpful for them if you say the exact model name of your laptop if it is not the original M17x, for example M17x R2, R3, or R4.
Sometimes I get this error and I cant hear any sound from my speakers... when I restart, it works fine
Direct Sound output v2.42 (d) error
Bad Direct Sound Driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration
Error Code: 88780778
How can I solve this without restarting?
You may have a Currupt or Incompatible sound drivers.
If you have a disc with the drivers on it you will have to uninstall the present Sound Drivers and Re-Insatll them from your CD or MB Disc.
Okay well this happened like 2-3 weeks ago, i have an extremely annoying problem.. The sound of my computer would randomly stop working for some reason.. Not only that, but when i watch youtube the video or any video it won't load and it would literally pause or freeze.
To fix this i would have to disconnect/reconnect my headset or disable/enable my headset through the sound control panel; when i do this, it seems to fix everything, as the sound would come back and the videos would load back up and work normally again, but in 20min or 1hour the same problem would occur again and i would have to do the same process over and over again... Anyone has a solution for this weird phenomenon?
My OS is windows 8.1
And my headset is a Logitech H540
That's USB headphones, right ? Maybe your USB controller goes to "sleep" or headphones' driver itself. Change those power saving settings and see.http://www.eightforums.com/sound-audio/47995-sound-audio-randomly-stops-working.html
I am watching a youtube video and the volume would stop working.. So, I would have to refresh the youtube video and get back to the part I left off, and it's very annoying and i'm wasting my monthly usage.
Also, I would on iTunes and same problem.. after 1-2 minutes of audio, it would suddenly stop working.
When I am playing a video from Windows media player, i would get an error message that says "An audio device was disconnected or reconfigured. Verify that the audio device is connected, and then try to play the item again".
I tried restarting my computer and it didn't help, my speakers/audio have been working fine for the past year until a couple days ago :S
What is the audio chipset status in Device Manager when the problem occurs? If the audio chipset if greyed out or not listed, there is a hardware fault.
The sound on my computer Dell Optiplex keeps going out If I restart the computer it will come back on but I don't know how to stop it from happening to begin with or why it keeps cutting out It's quite annoying When I click on the sound icon in the right hand corner I get this message There are no active mixer devices available I have tried all the suggested fixes for this but the only thing that works is to restart the computer I have gone to the control panel to add new hardware That doesn't work as everything shows up as working just fine Can't add anything I have checked the device manager -- nothing has a yellow exclamation point I have tried to update the driver -- I get the message that I have the latest driver installed I have tried to stop and then restart the service in services msc No computer - restart must Sound stops working change Sound still won't work According to belarc advisor this is what I have on my computer ADS DVD Xpress B SndTAudio SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio USB Audio Device This could be worse - I could totally and Sound stops working - must restart computer always without sound but it's really quite annoying to have multiple programs open I work from home on the computer and have to close everything down in order to restart to get the sound back It's such an unproductive waste of time and suggests that there is something wrong Anyone have any other ideas I haven't tired yet
I need a few more details. What sound device are you using? Headphones? Speakers that connect through 3.5mm jack? What is the USB audio device as listed by belarc? When does the sound stop working? Does it stop working while streaming a video? What are you doing when the sound stops working?
As a good first step, first uninstall the sound drivers and software from Control Panel\add and remove programs\uninstall and then reinstall by downloading the newest version directly from dell's website: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/ProductSelector You can find the service tag generally on the top, side, or back of the desktop.
Because this is an older computer (I assume since it is running windows xp), I suggest you open the case, dust the computer out and while you have it open, inspect the motherboard for blown or bulging capacitors: https://www.google.com/search?q=blown+or+bulging+capacitors+motherboard&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=cR7ZU8zAB9amyASd34HABw&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1272&bih=766
Occasionally the sound just stops working, no error message, no screech or and indication of any kind that the sound has quit other than the silence. There is nothing wrong in device manager.
I can get the sound back if I reboot my system. Weird thing is that sound fixes itself before the shutdown (plays the Windows exit tune). My issue is that I have to wait for a reboot and want to know if there is a way to reset the sound card without rebooting.
Vista 32 Ultimate, X-Fi card with all latest drivers installed. This has been happening for a long time with different driver installs so I don't believe the drivers are the issue.
Just answered my own question. I went into Control Panel/Sounds, etc. and chose Speakers/Properties than on the Advanced Tab attempted to change the default format. I received a message saying that the device is being used by another application. I selected Yes to continue and ran test. The speakers were working so I changed the default back and exited. I tried using a video that I had open in Firefox and still no sound and there was no sound for email notification either. I closed and restarted Firefox and went back to the video and the sound was working again. Apparently this is a problem with Firefox.
I posted this in the Crashing and Debugging section by mistake...Requesting Help Please...My audio stops working and everything else seems to not function, I don't know if Windows crashed (which it seems like) or the Sound is causing this problem...but this happens ususallly when I am running a program which relies on Audio a lot...such as my media Player or a Game...after around a few hours the sound stops working correctly and after I exit the program I can't run other programs without them crashing...I have to restart the PC for everything to work normally till it happens again....I am currently running Windows 7 Professional x64..
I also have SRS sandbox running and my sound card is a integrated realtek ALC888. I have installed the the latest realtek 2.39 drivers as well...I need help in fixing this issue...I have uploaded my System info in case it would be needed...thanks
I suggest you run Windows troubleshooters, this may help you find the issue and resolve it: Windows 7 features - Windows Troubleshooting - Microsoft Windows.

Started happening just recently and pretty interesting. I know I am due for a crash when my computer no longer auto-sleeps and my DAC (basically a USB soundcard to non audiophiles) will no longer output sound. What is interesting is that it does not actually crash unless I unplug the DAC from my USB hub and then plug it back in. Doing so causes an immediate BSOD. As far as I can tell the computer won't crash until I mess with the DAC (but no other option but a restart if I want sound.) Greatly appreciate the help!
for some reason out of the blue my computer randomly stops playing sounds and anything to do with videos this includes streaming videos from the net and the only way to fix it is to restart, all drivers are up to date sound wise, codecs are all up to date video wise. and the sound and video drivers appear in the device manager as working properly.
any ideas apart from throw out the comp lol.
I am becoming frustrated with this problem as my PC is no more than 2 months old.......(dell). i do not switch my PC off and each morning i get up and attempt to play media....say on bbc news......(picture and audio) it does not work. the media plays for a few seconds and then freezes and i never hear any sound. I have discovered that restarting the PC fixes this every time. It then works for the rest of the day.......
I am completely confused. Have looked at my drivers and it says they are all working fine plus i can see no problems with the sound under control panel....mind you i have basic knowledge. I have no different software on this new pc than i had on an older model and i never had such problems. i would appreciate some guidance as i have run out of ideas.......many many thanks
I think you should carefully check you sound card drivers for the latest updates. As I understood you have a built-in sound card. That type of problem is rather common and the reason is in the poor software. Good luck in your search!
I've only just started to realize this, but my sound will stop working if I have a combo of programs running. Mainly Skype and League of Legends. When I have those two on, more LoL, my audio stutters or just won't work at all. I'll get problem with playback device on Skype. I've updated my drivers and disabled bandwidth hogs, but I can't seem to get it to work.
If this isn't the right forum for this please feel free to move it, I figured it might be audio.
Both of those use audio and if both are active at the same time it can cause a sound conflict. Usually only one audio application at a time can be used.http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/310379-sound-lags-stops-working-when-running-certain-programs.html
Hi all Recently moved apartments and as part of that I shut down and packed up my computer Upon sound stops working, onboard no audio Realtek getting it set up at the new place I found that the rear panel audio was now displaying quot Not plugged in quot and not producing sound the front panel headphone jack was no longer working and I had numerous playback devices from AMD presumably for the HDMI audio I've found several other threads online describing a similar problem but I haven't been able to fix my issue I've tried a Realtek onboard audio stops working, no sound few basic troubleshooting things in isolation as well as in combination Confirmed the speakers worked Uninstalling the Realtek High Definition Audio device from Device Manager without removing the driver Uninstalling the Realtek device and Realtek onboard audio stops working, no sound removing the driver files Installing the latest Realtek drivers Installing the latest AMD drivers for my graphics card System Restore to a known good date Editing the registry to disable jack detection - this did allow me to set Speakers as default but didn't otherwise help I'm completely out of ideas and considering just buying a sound card but I thought I ought to ask here first Any information or suggestions would be very helpful I've attached a DxDiag export Thankshttp://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/378828-realtek-onboard-audio-stops-working-no-sound.html
I use a dell XPS m1530 laptop with windows 7
Every time I use any VoIP software such as Skype or Starcraft2 voice chat, my system looses any ability to play any sound what so ever (even if minimize starcraft 2 and try playing some mp3 file)
This happens only until I hanging up the call in skype or disabling the Voice chat in starcraft2.
I think this problem started a few month ago when I connected a nokia bluetooth headset to use on skype.
I tried to remove the nokia headset from my bt devices, and even removed the bluetooth devices from the device manager, and still I think (not sure) windows is trying to use the bluetooth sound device every time I use VoIP.
Check start/control panel/sound.
On the communications tab, select do nothing and
If the headset is a seperate audio device make sure
it is set to default communication device in playback
You don't want it as default playback.
Make sure the headset is default in the voip software.

After about an hour or so of being on, my computer will stop playing audio. It seems to happen randomly, and only comes back on when I restart, but it will go out again afterwards.
I have my PC connected to a monitor via HDMI, and a digital audio cable from the PC to a stereo. Neither output will play sounds from the PC, but both they can still play from other sources with no problem. I tried checking the drivers in the control panel and nothing seems to be wrong there.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1.
Any assistance on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This could be the dumbest question of the day, but does anyone know a way to have the sound windows plays at startup (or even shut down) be randomly picked from a list or directory? This way I could have more customization of my OS and put all those hilarious 20 second or less audio clips to good use. Its just an idea anyway
I do not how to make the .wav file used at startup random.
However, if you would like to change the .wav file, go to:
Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speach, Audio > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tab
Under "Program Events" you can assign a sound to pretty much any Windows event.
Maybe you could create a program that will choose this .wav file randomly, sell it to Apple, and then that would insure that Microsoft would include this feature in their next version of Windows!
There are some pinball sounds included with Windows. If you want to use them, after selecting a Program Event, browse to C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Pinball. You can even preview the sounds. I have had a lot of fun with those.
My pc randomly reboots itself after a period of time. It usually happens when Im running about 3-4 IE browsers, AIM, and Outlook Express for a while. i thought it was my overclocked CPU that was the problem, so i disabled over heat turn-off in the BIOS. Could there be errors in my registry?
Athlon 2500+ XP overclocked to 3400+ (42 C at rest)
Abit NF7-S2 Motherboard
That processor is seriously overclocked.
Overclocking reduces the lifespan of the hard ware and also overclocks the RAM and PCI bus, so have you tried not overclocking the system?
There is no point in turning off the overheating monitor in the BIOS if the processor isn't overheating, which it doesn't appear to be doing if its temperature is only 42 degrees.
I have a very idiotic problem in which i start the PC, play for 20 minutes and then the computer starts to load it self for no reason. The CPU usage is close to 98% so i can't play no more. Same thing if i restart the PC, it works like a charm for 20 minutes then it slow's down.

How about we start with your system specs.
I am currently running Combofix on my laptop, however I am a bit worried about how long it is taking.
It at present only states:
"C:\Program Files\network monitor\netmon.exe"
It has been like this for 15 minutes, should I be worried?
Hello, I'm sure Shawn is aware of this setting, and I'm sure he'll eventually read this, and can link me to the post to how to do it =)
I have my computer set up to when it is idle after 5 minutes, it will turn the screen blank for 3 seconds then it will show the lock screen. Sometimes I'm at the computer desk busy doing something non-computer related, and all of a sudden I notice in the corner of my eye that the screen goes blank. I had the computer set up to whenever that happened I grab the mouse real quick and move it to come right back to whatever was showing on the screen before it goes to the lock screen. Reason why I want to catch it right in time is so I don't have to re-type the password at the lock screen. There is a setting somewhere that lets me do that. Where is it again?
This may be what you're after.

Is it set to sleep or hibernate after a period of time?
It may be having trouble waking up.
I have mine set to monitor off after 15 mins and sleep set to never.
Try those settings and see if it is any better.
Right click the desktop|personalize|screen saver|change power settings|change when computer sleeps.
I am not able to find any event legs showing conflicts, failures anywhere around the time I notice my sound has stopped working, making it that much more difficult to resolve. As of right now I can reboot and sound will come back for an unknown length of time. Sometimes a few days to a few hours. Since I haven't been able to point to something causing this to try and figure it out myself, I'm not sure what additional information I can provide to get help in return, so ask and I will provide what I can. Thanks.
You can visit Realtek's site to download and install the latest HD Audio Codec driver.
