installing software on my server for LAN use

Q: installing software on my server for LAN use

I want to install Office XP on my server for use by my users (Corporate Environment). I only want to install XP one time with all the drivers, and settings the same....in other words I want to create an image of the completed install on my server so that each user can install the software at their station without needing the CD or the product key....is this possible and can anyone help me?

Thanks...Ken

Preferred Solution: installing software on my server for LAN use

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: installing software on my server for LAN use

It is not hard as long as you have the Corporate version of Office XP.

Just follow these steps, and you should be fine.

I'm fairly computer literate with most things but when it comes to ports, and routers, and firewalls i'm pretty much a noob.

My friends and I have been using Ventrilo for a few weeks with me running the server from my computer. A few days ago i had to put norton antivirus on my computer to get ride of a virus. Ever since then i can't connect to my Ventrilo server and neither can anyone else. I uninstalled it and everything but it must have changed one of my windows network settings. The windows firewall isn't up but something is blocking stuff. Anyone have any idea how to make stuff like that work again? Thanks.

I have an HP 5500 series printer and ever since I installed Adobe Professional 7.0 the software keeps installing itself over and over and I can't get it to stop. I have tried uninstalling Adobe and reinstalling and it does the same thing. Anyone ever heard of this? Any advice is greatly appreciated, and I'm a newbie here so I hope I have posted correctly. Thanks!!!

A:HP Printer software keeps re-installing by itself after installing Adobe Prof. 7.0

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - Startup(tab).

Look for entries that start with hpz, similar to what you see here.

Uncheck those entries, click Apply - OK, then reboot.

See if that helps.

A:Software needs for NT 4 Server

I suspect you're going to have serious problems finding new software that is fully supported for Windows NT 4.0.

I don't know of any application that can scan any operating system to determine any type of problem and fix it regardless of corrupt files or registries. It sounds like you're looking for some type of Holy Grail software that fixes all problems. No such thing. Even harder to find utilities that work with an operating system even the maker of which doesn't support it.

I am having a dedicated server and need to know what firewall should I use for securing the server. I mean to say that shall i use a software firewall or a hardware firewall? Which is more effective?

A:What software is better for a web server?

You should use a hardware server; I would say, either get a router that has firewall enabled service or think about IPCOPS distro for linux; If you have an old computer around with two network cards, you can easily setup a firewall with no problem.

http://www.ipcop.org/

Hardware is always the way to go if your going to get a firewall; Cisco ASA or Pix if have alot of computer to protect;

I need to install web server software on my computer so I can preview web pages before uploading them. It saves all of that unnecessary upload time. I used to run XAMPP with XP Pro SP3. But in looking to download it again, it doesn't mention 7 as being compatible. The last OS listed is Vista. I would imagine XAMPP is probably compatible with 7, but I was wondering if anyone had any info on this, or maybe another suggestion for free open source server software I could use with 7?

A:Web Server Software

It is not exactly what you are asking about, but have you considered using Opera Unite? It has a web server function to serve pages directly from your computer, so I imagine that it has some way to preview them also. I don't know if it would allow you to upload them just anywhere though, but I imagine that could be done separately, if needed.

There is a specific software that i would like to install to the Server ans to let it run on all the computers on the network. So,instead of installing it on each computer (time consuming) i need a way to install it on the server and let it run on each other computer.

A:Installing program to server

Copy software to a folder on the server
Share the folder over the network
Map the folder as a drive on the workstations
Run the software on the workstations.

This is pretty basic networking.

The software has to be set up so that it can be shared in that way. In most cases you will probably have to install the software on the hard drive and share just the data files over the network. The application has to have that capability.

Hi

I have just bought an HP server (TC 2120) at an on-line auction. We have installed a RAID drive off a PCI RAID card but this is the only modification we have done. The mirror drive is exactly the same as the drive which came in the system.

The machine appears not to have been used as all documents etc arrived sealed in the bags.

I am trying to install Win XP Pro but am having no luck as the CD is not bootable.

How can I get XP onto this machine??

TIA

My OS is Windows 98 SE.
Personal Web Server can be installed from the CD on this path
add-ons\pws\setup.exe
Here is where the problem starts because a menu with several installation options is opened.
You must install Microsoft Transaction Server in order to have several other components dependent on it, including ASP.
Now, this installation keeps prompting me for the path to a server which of course is not installed on my system yet.
If it doesn't find the path it will give all sorts of installation errors.
I am aggravated because now I get error messages at start up and the whole system is unstable.
Can anybody help me on how to perform a full install of PWS?
I really need to do this for my job.
Thanks in advance.

A:installing xp/linux via server..

d21deepesh,

Sitting at a single machine?? Not likely. The concept is to have a server with the base build you wish to deploy. A PXE Server (pronounced 'pixie') is what you ideally wish to use.

http://linux-sxs.org/internet_serving/pxeboot.html

Each machine you wish to build will be pointed to the server. On boot, the machine connects to the server and installs the image.

I am thinking about upgrading our server at work and I am trying to put together some rough numbers for hardware and software to see if the project will get any support One I Do Server really Windows software? need big ticket item is the operating system In my environment I can t see the benefit of something like Server rather than Do I really need Windows Server software? XP Our current network is composed of about XP based pc s and one NT server It was originally setup as a client server but evolved to a peer to peer with the server being just a place to store data on drives in a RAID configuration We have two primary applications that use shared data One is Microsoft Access which will work just fine on peer to peer The other is Peachtree Complete Accounting This is the one that depends on the structure of the network the most Previous versions where compatible with NT but the latest version of the software required Windows Server or for client server operation But since it will also function in a peer to peer environment we just changed the location of the data to one of the XP boxes All the pc s can access the internet through a SMC router that is connected to a satellite so currently we are in no way depending on the server for that What are the downsides for me if I just build a pc with raid drives and such but go with XP rather than Server Should I consider Vista Budget is a definite concern So I don t want to have to spend a lot on software if I don t have to And I don t have a lot of time to manage it either so simpler is better too Any thoughts on a recommended processor and or board I am thinking about a Dual AMD Opteron Thanks nbsp

Basically, I just need something that I can set up on my Win XP Pro machine where I can have people transfer files to me without having to email them. Especially since some files are too large to email and get bounced. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks.

Another thing to note, preferably I'd like some way where people sending me files do not have to install any type of software for themselves. Where they could just go to maybe some sort of GUI and can just log in and dump files.

I don't know of any GOOD free FTP clients. When I used to do a lot of FTP transfers I found Cute FTP to be a very user friendly program.

A friend of mine tried Smart FTP and said he liked it but he wasn't a power user. It was just a one time use.

Try googling CuteFTP and/or Smart FTP and/or 'free FTP client'. Tons of crap will come up.

For Anti-Virus - Use Symantec corperate editon, Nod-32, or Bitdefender total security.

A:{Solved} - Installing a member server

Greetings

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... that PS at the end tells the whole story. If this is the case, then it is entirely possible that this is what is causing the problem. If you asked, I think you may have a suspicion that it is true.

You need to check each of your NT servers, to see what their status is.

Also, check your WINS database (might be a good idea to rebuild it), and check to see that you do not have any phantom servers in your DNS table (if you are running a DNS server).

Cheers

Hi all...
Hope anyone of you can really help.

I have installed SQL SERVER 2000 personal edition on windows server 2000 (the domain). Have then installed SQL SERVER 2000 personal edition on the clients systems all a part of the domain.

I am working on .net 2003 in the client, i can access all the .net files but when it comes to the database during execution it gives the error "SQL server cannot be found or access denied".

What i think is that the group polices that have been applied knowingly or unknowinlgy is not allowing the client systems to acces the server.

Please let me know what i should do to help solve the problem.

...Thanks

I'm installing a second exchange server and just wanted to get something clear. When I add second exchange server to the same site it is suppose to replicate with the first exchange server correct? And how extensive is the replication? Can I bring down the old server for upgrades and still not lose exchange functions? I guess what I asking is the replication good enough to remove the exchange services from the old box and just to run the exchange on the newer box. Trying to stay away from backups if possible because the old box runs other services and needs to remain on the network. Thanks in advance for any help.

A:{Advice Given} - Installing second Exchange 5.5 server

Greetings

Well, if you want to REMOVE the first Exchange server, then you will have to first move all the mailboxes from the one server to the other, which is not part of the normal replication. What Replication does, is replicate the Directory information, and the public folders (if it has been set to replicate public folders).

There is a way of moving the mailboxes in Exchange, but I am not sure that you can automate the moving of ALL the mailboxes.

Cheers

I have been running Windows 2000 Server for some time and have hand no difficulties with QT or iTunes. I recently had to (because of a motherboard failure) replace my system and chose a dual Opteron server using an ASUS server board, and decided to install the 64-bit version on Windows 2003 Server.

So far, most programs haven't had any serious installation problems and have run fine. But QuickTime and iTunes takes note of the 64-bit OS and refuses to install.

Does anyone know any way to fool the installer into doing the installation? I have a feeling it will run just fine, IF I could get it to install. Is it possible to modify the package so that it doesn't check for OS compatibility? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. This isn't a critical piece of software, but it is a convenient one.

my server has 4 SCSI harddrives itself and each of is labeled(partitioned) as C,D,E,F.. (OS is running on C)I wanted to add 5th SCSI harddrive, apparently win2000 did not recognize it,however when I hit F6 on the booting, I am able to see it.It seems OS is not seeing, but bios is seeing.is there anyway to do install new harddrive?

A:installing new harddrive in win2000 server

Someone didn't know about drive fault tolerance when building this server. Oh well.Did you configure the new drive to NOT do termination? This is assuming you are using an active terminator on the end of the scsi cable. If you are using the 4th drive for termination you need to set it to none and this 5th drive to do termination.Much better to use an active terminator at the end of the cable. You have to initialize the drive in the scsi bios once you get termination solved. Then you go into disk management to see the drive, partition, format it and assign it a drive letter.

If the OS is not part of the array and you have installed applications on the array you will have to restore those applications as well. I am not even sure you can make the OS part of an RAID 5 array. Your best bet would be to restore the OS volume from a full backup...the OS won't know the difference since the array looks like one big drive to it.

I'm looking for an SQL server solution that runs on XP for testing purposes. I know MS makes a free one but I can't get it to install and I frankly have a bias against MS when it comes to mission critical programs. I've just been let down too many times by programs with too many entanglements into the OS. MS seems to feel that because they know the OS backwards and forwards that they should then entangle any app into the OS's deep settings.

Anyway, I'm looking for pretty much anything. It can cost money as I'm happy to play with a demo for awhile.

Greetings,
I am waist deep in home automation...trek homes you know. So I've of course ripped all my CD's for multi-zone multi-amp multi-soundcard music.

Now the final entertainment piece would be to rip all my DVDs for two reasons: 1 to protect my original DVDs from getting scratched (kids) and 2 so with the touch of a finger on my wi-fi touchpad I can load a movie sit back and relax.

I do not want to go the mult-Dvd disc changer. As with the multi-CD changers I see this as a dinasoaur.

With that Said:

Hardware: What would be the best quality video card for movie playing, HDTV etc. Estimated minimum Drive Requirements? 250GIG?

Server Config: Dell Dual drive raid server. 1 gig of ram. AMD chip? Harddrive sizes? Will of course take server recomendations from this wealth of knowledge.

Recomendations on Projectors?

A:Hardware and Software Question - DVD Server

KD,

As far as the "server" specs go, since you are apparently going to buy a Pre-Manufactured unit, eg, Dell, and obviously you don't want to limit your pleasure by anything as trivial as MONEY....Just buy the biggest most badass unit they offer.

And if it is specified as Multi-media, it "should" lean in the direction you want. As for the HD capacity...since you are talking about ARCHIVING all of you CD's and DVD's to Hard Disk, 250GB should be sufficient...for your FIRST hard drive !!! Go on from there.

As for projectors...as a friend of mine always says, "You never have to make excuses for buying the best." Pick up a magazine and check out the reviews.

Hi all

I am looking for a piece of software (preferably free) that family and friends can use on their computers and connect to my server and backup their important documents automatically.

Without sounding horrid, a lot of my friends and family are not very experienced with computers and so i am needing a piece of software that once setup it will backup their documents and pictures etc with out them having to do anything or only having to press a few buttons.

Not sure if this type of software exists but if anybody knows of software that does this i would be very grateful.

Thank you

ok i was messing around with ftp programs and i got bulletftp program to work and my friend using cuteftp was able to connect and we shared files. im on dsl and he is on cable. bad thing is that the fastest we could get steady was about 30k a second. is this normal? is there better software for speed and one that allows both of us to edit eachother's hard drives? im new to this ftp thing any feedback would be cool thanks

I have a 2008 server and I'm trying to re-install Crystal reports software becuase of a missing dll. I can re-install without any problems, and when I go into the software it works fine, but when I log off and log back on, I have the same problems taht I had before re-installing.

It's like the re-install did not happen, I'm and admin on the server and I'm also running the setup.exe as admin, what could be the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Are you running any anti virus or firewall apps?

I am trying to do a full install of Windows Standard Server 2003 on a Intel-based server.
The server has a Promise Fast Track 100 Raid controller. This system previously had Windows 2000 Advanced Server on it with no issues. When i try to install Server 2003, I press F6 and load the proper drivers for the controller but then Setup comes up and says that it cannot find a hard disk. Yet, when I restart the system, it boots into Windows 2000 with no problem. I can delete and rebuild the RAID array so I know the hard disks are being recognized. I used WipeDisk to completely erase the drives.

I then tried to reinstall Windows 2000 again and am having the same issue that setup cannot find the hard disk. Any ideas why this may be occurring?

A:Solved: Problem installing Server 2003

its because you have a SATA hard drive....all windows os's before vista don't recognize these drives by default. There is a way to do it, by pressing F2 or F3 when prompted for a disk. I'm not completly sure as I've never done it before

Here is the situation;

A friend of mine has a Windows Server 2003 Workstation at his office. He often connects to this Server using Remote Desktop Connection on his laptop from his house to access work files.

He bought a printer that he wants to install on the Server in order to print files in the office and at home using the Server.

What is the best way to accomplish this? Do I just connect to the Server using RDC and log-in as the ADMIN and install the printer and assign an IP based on the router (set the printer to 192.168.1.10)

Will this work?

A:Installing Windows Server 2003 Error

I found the problem. Trap 002 is a RAM issue, it seems that Trap 006 is a CPU issue.

I replaced my ECC memory with a different kind and I was able to continue with the Install of 2003.

Its running like a champ now.

I would like to discus everyone s failures and success with type of install 2008 Drives 7/Server Installing on R2 Windows 2TB In other Threads we have disused partitioning out the drive into partitions to overcome problems So let s hear about your installs Here is Mine I want to put TB SATA drives in my Windows R server but while I was test installing Windows R refused to see the full space correctly I am worried there is an issue with the Windows R code in relation to TB SATA drives Seems to work great on SAS or SCSI Typically when I install data drives in a Installing Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 on 2TB Drives server I use RAID This typically shows up as x size of drive So when I have GB drives I see TB of space Note I understand RAID and I know about parity and that it Installing Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 on 2TB Drives is NOT all useable space but let s just count it as space Installing Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 on 2TB Drives for the sake of this test Note My OS is on a mirrored K drives and not part of the RAID for data When I install TB drives you would expect to see TB of space however Windows Server R only shows it as TB of space After checking settings and making lots of changes I finally got it to show as partitions of TB and no hint of the TB of leftover space I switched between GB and GB drives same machine same Windows Server R just different drives With the GB I get TB of space and with the GB again I get TB of space Back to the TB drives and I only get TB of space I tried different SATA controllers including the one on the motherboard built-in All do the same thing In the controller BIOS I see all drives and can create a TB RAID but when I boot to Windows Server R it only see TB Side test I replaced my OS Windows Server R drives with one new GB SATA fresh out of the factory box I installed Windows on the drive and then tried to access the x TB drives with the same results I see the x GB drives fine and I see the x GB drives fine Is it possible there is an error in the SATA drivers or is there a code problem in Windows R Please note if I use SAS or SCSI drives I do not have any problems everything works as expected DocBrown how did your TB drive install go

OK I m aware the title is a little vague but I couldn t put any more in without it being a hugely long title Basically I bought a new Server installing Problem 2003 Solved: laptop a few weeks ago with Vista Home Premium on it and although I m happy with it I want to dual-boot with Server yes Solved: Problem installing Server 2003 it s legitimate - Dreamspark software but the laptop has a SATA HD I didn t think this would be a problem but when I booted from the CD I was told that no hard drive was detected and setup won t go any further I ve checked the drivers CD that came with it and they appear to be on there but rather stupidly in a floppy format I m aware that you need to use a floppy to install third-party drivers in Server s setup phase but that s where I have the problem The laptop like virtually all out now has no floppy drive I m fairly sure if I wanted to I could get around this by purchasing a USB floppy drive and going that route but that s a bit much for something so simple Is there any other way around this I d really rather not splash out on a piece of hardware I ll use once or twice nbsp

I have a question about Mysql server 2008 R2

What is my server name if I select to install with "Named Instance" not "Default Instance"

with Mixed mode password

I don't know this because I used to install with Named Instance : neneka and mixed mode password 12345

but I can't login because I don't know what my server name is

user id should be : neneka right ? and maybe password is 12345

A:Question about installing Mysql server 2008 R2

When using named instances, the server name is of the form [ComputerName]\[InstanceName]
When using the default instance, it's only [ComputerName]

You can alternatively replace the computer name with the IP or "localhost" if it's on the very same box. And on the login dialog, if you open the server name combobox, the option "browse for more" can be used to help you locate the servers in the network too.
Also verify if the server service is running. For named instances to connect over a network, you also need the SQL Browser service running (not needed for the default instance).

BTW, you should rename the post to SQL Server, as it has nothing to do with MySql.

Hi all Please pardon if this has printer server print w/ wireless help installing already been addressed I tried to find threads that answered my question but was not too successful I am trying to set up my husband s office so his laptop can print wirelessly to his printer via a print server Right now each time he wants to print he attaches the printer help installing printer w/ wireless print server via the usb cable This works ok but is kind of a pain since the cable has to run across the room Also each time he unplugs and plugs his laptop reinstalls the printer giving him countless copies of the same printer in the printer folder Another issue I ve never bothered to fix So I ve got the print server which also happens to be a router hooked up to the printer and the laptop with built-in wireless detected the router server and connected to it like a network without any problems I thought all I d have to do was go to add printer detect it through the server and install it But though the computer is connected wirelessely to the server it doesn t see the printer Was I totally crazy when I thought the print server would allow printing without the printer being connected to a PC Can you actually just plug a printer into a wireless server and then print from your computer Or perhaps because this is also a router it must be attached to a computer Any help with this would be greatly appreciated If you can explain how to do it I m sure I d be able to do it the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running Windows XP the router server is a US Robotics MAXG model USR Thanks nbsp

When trying to install Microsoft SQL 2005 Server Express Edition I get the following error message:

"The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine JUPITER Error:2147942405 (0x80070005)."

To try to fix this I went to the WMI Control under computer management and checked the properties. The following error message came back:

"Failed to initialize all required WMI classes.

Win32_Processor: Win32: Access is denied.
Win32_WMISetting: Successful
Security Information: Successful
Win32_OperatingSystem: Win32: Access is denied."

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, I upgraded from Windows XP.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
