I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone:

When I try to install the Windows updates, everything downloads; however, when the installation process starts, I get the following error screen.

"MDAC Hotfix Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Does anyone have any solutions to fix this? This just happened this week.

Hello Bleeping Computer,

I am having a problem with my computer.

Running Windows Vista home basic edition, When i start up the computer I get an error saying windows module installer has stopped working.

So far I have searched and tried several fixes.

I checked the hardrive for errors. This took 3 hours and repaired alot of cluster files.

I uninstalled AVG2012 as it would not scan the computer.

I tried to update windows from the control panel and get error 80080005

Since the hardrive was checked for errors, the computer is back working ok, but I cannot update windows and have trouble installing any new programs.

Can anyone advise what to do to try and fix the machine.

Thanks

Kevin

In your situation I can see two ways:

1.Use System Restore if you have any checkpoint where everything work fine ->if does not work on alive system you have to boot DVD Vista->see details:System Restore - Undo

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I am curious have you had a blue screen at all, and have you looked to see if you had a mini dump report, we need to know that you don't have a BSOD problem.

Plus please do a full updated Anti_Virus scan using your computer security.

If you don't have then please download a run a full scan using malwarebytes here is the link and use the free version.
Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download

If these come back clean then we can work on your problem

So I'm having a couple issues on my Dell laptop, 32bit Vista.

One is that I can't do windows update, I get error code 80080005. Ive looked online and do a decent amount of research and came down to the Windows Module Installer. When I go into Start < Run < services.msc and then down to Windows Module Installer, I can put it at manual and nothing will change. I noticed that it's "status" is blank and when I try to start it I get "windows could not start the windows modules installer service on local computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."

Any ideas?

And i dont really want it to. Telling it to print a standard word document (black type, not white ) onto white paper. All looks good except for no ink actually being put onto paper.

Printer running latest drivers. Worked fine last time i used it (few months ago). Lexmark X85, with scanner built in. Cheap printer but used to work. Windows XP.

Any guesses? Printer claims to have a plenty of ink left, but i dont know how to verify that.

Hi there,
I am getting a repeated "Windows Module Installer has stopped working" message which says that the file that describes the problem is:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\AppCrash_TrustedInstaller_5480538538f23ac44dfcd994b 3e5d340663098_cab_670b9c43\WER9B8A.tmp.hdmp.

Windows Update hangs and gives no error message but says no Windows Updates have been carried out (ever). Have tried to run SURT but it just hangs on the first step, searching for updates (left it for 3 hours or so). SFC Scan gives error message "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". I attach CBS folder.

Be very grateful for any help.

Before you go that far, have you tried installing it from safe mode? Since the MDAC install will fail if any of its dll's are in use, booting to safe mode might disable them and allow you to install it.

Also, if still having problems, try doing the procedure in Q232060 to create a log file of the install. They list one condition that there is a workaround for in that Q article.

It appears like it will install, then stops when it says 'Configuring Windows Installer', then I get this message '1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime'

I have checked out the support at the InstallShield website. They address the issue on the site, but none of the solutions help.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any possible solutions.

Thanks in advance.

A:Windows Installer Won't Install

There is a new version of the installer on the windows update page.
Give it a try.

I use automatic updates on XP Home, and I keep getting a pop up telling me that Windows Installer 3.1 is ready to be installed.

I run the update and just a few seconds later I get another pop-up message telling me that Windows Installer 3.1 is ready to be intsalled. No matter how any times in run the update, it keeps coming back.

A:Windows Installer 3.1 keeps on trying to install

use SYSTEM RESTORE to return your system to before this event occurred.
set your WINDOWS UPDATE to-----"notify me but dont automatically download or install them".

in the SECURITY CENTER in your CONTROL PANEL.

I keep getting the usual quot updates are available quot shield on my taskbar and it s always windows itself! install 3.1 installer won't for the latest update of windows installer I ve downloaded it times now and told it to install itself times now and windows installer 3.1 won't install itself! it always seems to work right but never really does It always goes thru its paces and the progress bar goes all the way to the right but at the very end it ends with a message that says two things basically it didn t install properly and I need to restart for the updates to take effect Those both can t be right at the same time obviously It must not have installed because a day or so later the shield pops up again and it s deja vu all over again I read the MS description of the update and it sounds as if it isn t really worth worrying about Is that right If so how do I stop windows update from reminding me every other day or so that it s an available update I want to be reminded just not for THIS one nbsp

A:I think I have trojan(s) and mal ware, /google installer/white smoke

white smoke randomly is on my laptop now no idea what thatThat sounds like a serious hardware related problem...overheating due to faulty power supply, faulty fans, MB going bad or some other electical issue. This could be a dangerous fire hazard and needs to be your first priority before dealing with any possible malware issues. I suggest you take the laptop to a qualified technician for inspection ASAP if it is no longer covered by a warranty.

OK guys....This is driving me nuts. It never used to happen but now it does. Whenever I try to open Microsoft word or excel, or even when I run disk cleanup This box comes up entitled Windows Installer and the message inside of it says "Preparingt to Install"....This goes away after about 30 -45 seconds and the the stuff opens up....But it's a pain in the butt....I think it also does this for some other stuff too.

I haven't made any changes to the computer that I can remeber except running some anti-virus database updates.

I'm not too swift with computers and I can live with this if I have but DO I HAVE TO????

Hello and welcome to the forum

You should be able to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to stop what is causing the installer to fire up

Ok Ive had this problem for about 2 weeks now.
Hardly anything will install without crashing. Im downloading what should be the correct installers of many things like java, shockwave and a lot more applications and they all crash within the first few stages within the installer and I get the error report thing. Same with AIM... It messes up 90% of the time I open it but it managed to install. MSN wont install either.
BUT ironicly. Every single VST and VSTi (theyre just plugins for music creation software... .ddls) Ive installed work - same with all my music apps.

One thing I tried was reinstalling windows installer. No luck - it did install but everything still messes up.

Im running XP SP2 on this machine simply because everything should work on it. Its the Professional 2002 version. I have 2GB of ram and a Q6600 quad core(this may be causing the problem, I dunno)

Thanks

I cannot download any update due to the Windows Installer 3.1 for XP will not install. I get the 0x8ddd0007 Error stating the "Windows Installer was not installed." Then I am direct to restart my system to fix the problem. This does nothing and I am in a loop of restarting and still not getting Windows Installer to install. I can not get any updates until this problem is solved. I would rather someone help me to fix this problem without me having to Reformat my Hard Drive and do a complete new installation of WindowsXP. So, if anyone has a real answer to remedy this, I would appreciate your assistance. Thank you . . . HELP!!!

I recently purchased software that requires that various Microsoft components be installed, including Microsoft Installer (MSI) version 4.5. I have tried to download the MSI 4.5 (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe file) from Microsoft website but it will not install and leaves me with my current MSI version 3.1. During install of MSI 4.5 I get an "access denied" error, then computer undoes the changes and restarts leaving me with the MSI 3.1.

What would cause my system to not allow for the MSI 4.5 version to replace the 3.1, This is leaving me unable to install my recent software purchase.

I have Windows XP SP3/32 bit.
Thank you for your courtesies in helping me.

I followed some bad advice and deleted via Regedit. Windows Installer 5.0 is NOT available for download as a stand alone program.

So I'm pondering doing a Repair Install.

Will doing so Reinstall the Windows Installer Program ?

A:Will a Repair Install Fix the Windows Installer 5.0 ??

Yes it should seeing as its a windows file.
Repair install replaces the Windows files from the disc.

It seems as if you have done a poor un-installation of Office. Only ever un-install programs using the Add/Remove function in Control Panel.

Try reinstalling the Office package, restart, un-install from add/remove, restart then open Internet Explorer.

This should fix your problem.

After booting up and loading the desktop, icons, etc., I get a window that says Windows Installer is installing something, then configuring something called "Photogallery". While this is going on, I get another window saying something about Norton not supporting the repair function and to uninstall and reinstall. If I go to Norton, though, there appears to be nothing wrong with it.

Does anyone know what the heck this is about? I've tried a couple different programs to get rid of junk and fix the registry, hoping that would get rid of whatever it was, but it hasn't.

Try this :

Quote:

Delete all temporary files.

a. Restart the computer.
b. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer, or double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
c. Click anywhere in the Address bar to select it. (If you do not see the Address bar, then right-click the blank area to the right of Help. On the menu that appears, click Address bar.)
d. Type %temp% and then press Enter:
e. The Temp folder for the currently logged-on user displays.
f. In most cases, you can safely delete the contents. If you are not sure, then copy any files or folders to a different location. To delete the contents, click the Edit menu, and then click Select All.
g. Press Delete, and then click Yes if prompted to confirm.

See if it helps.

If I don't, how do I stop it from showing up on the automatic update?

A:Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 Won't Install

Hello,That is an interesting error. If automatic updates refuses to instal the file, you should try instaling it manually. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en this is a link to the windows instaler page. Also, to stop an update showing in your update list, simply expand the update in question by clicking the plus sign and select the check box saying a variation of exclude from future searches.

Now my Win Installer refuses to Install or Un Install ANYTHING, and this is really FRYING my ***.
The following error message appears: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. Contact Support Personnel" Contacted Micro BG Soft, and they are dumb founded ! No B.S.! They have no idea, whats wrong! Can anyone out there, offer any help in this area. It has something to do with my missing RPC Server, that much I was able to off the WEB.

You don`t repair your windows installer, you either buy a new one, or you download the iso file of the version you need and burn it to dvd.

"windows installer preparing to install..." message keeps popping up every few seconds on my dell desktop with xp media center edition sp3. I thought it might be malware so I ran malwarebytes antimalware and found nothing. I read somewhere that I should install and run the windows installer cleaner so I tried this but it won't let me install the cleaner. It gives a message saying that another program is installing and this needs to finish first. I read up on not being able to run the windows install cleaner and tried to end one of the two msexec processes from the task manager. this was a bad idea as it caused me to have another message about spss 15 trying to install every couple of seconds in addition to the windows installer. Hey, see if windows installer is in your startup entries:

- Open the start menu
- Type "msconfig.exe" in the search bar
- Press enter to open msconfig
- Goto the startup tab
- Look through these entries for "windows installer" or the path to windows installer
- If you find it:
> uncheck the box next to it
> click ok and restart to check
- If not:
> Post back and i'll do some reading into it

Hello,

I have a problem that windows trys to install a missing program named Vongo. How do i remove this auto install at startup. Vongo is not needed on my computer.

A:Windows Installer Problem...keeps Trying To Install Vongo

Do you happen to have an HP computer? Apparently Vongo is preloaded on to some HP laptops. (at least all the references I found mentioned laptops)According to Wikipedia "Vongo is a video on demand service, owned by Liberty Media's Starz Entertainment, parent company of the Starz network, that allows the user to download and view movies for a fixed price per month."A quick search for removal of Vongo took me to cnet.com forums where there are 65 posts about Vongo. Apparently there are a lot of people who are unhappy about this being included on their systems. It seems that it's a bear to get rid of, going through Add/Remove to uninstall doesn't work. Here is the link to the cnet forum, you might find something there that will work for you.http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7587_102-0.htm...78&start=60

Greetings Oh wise ones...

I am Running Dell 8300 Dinension/ XP/ SP3/ 512 Mem/ Intel 4/
My Canon printer died, so got a Used, (but known working in good condition) HP Photosmart 2410xi All-in-One
and have not been able to install it in spite of every suggested method by HP. I now notice that the Windows
Installer file is missing from the Services, and it had been there 2 days before this Install effort started.
It appears that all the dependencies required for the Installer are in place and started, but IT is not listed.
I can't figure what went wrong, but any suggestions to recover it will be appreciated. Of course every attempt to
install the printer drives, runs into the missing Windows Installer problem.

Thanks in advance for your usually prompt and learned advice.

My version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0 (I know it is not supported by Adobe) installs sufficiently so that I can use it (mostly). However the request for install the program is still in the Windows Installer. So each time I boot, I need to cancel the install of Adobe since it doesn't do anything, even when I let it run to completion.

How do I find and rid myself of the command that tries to install Adobe each time I re-boot the system???

When my friend goes to install any software, he generally sees a message saying it is starting the Windows Installer, then a popup appears (attached) from Windows Installer that offers on option other than OK. Clicking OK just makes the popup go away, the install does not continue. I tried the install as administrator, did not help. I tried the compatibility troubleshooter, but it errors out without giving any info.

I've tried running the Microsoft tool that they offer for repairing Windows Installer, it finds nothing. I've also tried unregistering and registering msiexec.exe, did not help. Also ran regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\msi.dll

Any ideas what I might try to fix this?

Thanks

A:Cannot install any software - Windows installer popup

Version 5, is that right?

I say it's time for an In-Place Install.

Also, check for Sirefef, it interferes with EXEs. It specifically disables EXEs so you cant install any AV programs so it may be interfering with the installer.

Do the programs that are there run? You can do a quick test for Sirefef- Rename your Windows Defender folder to Windows Defender Old. then try the installer again.

If that dont work, then dig out your Install disk, you gotta do an In-Place Install. But try an SFC /Scannow a few times, and then a DISM to rebuild the windows image, sorry, cant remember the command line - Its in the tutorials, I'll find it.

Here it is:

Hi,

For the past week I have noticed that when I start Windows Live Messenger, the windows installer box comes up and says installing, then the messenger finally opens.

Now I notice that I can't uninstall or install any new programs, and when I do, windows installer says "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed."

I'm not in safe mode. I've ran spyware scans and virus scans and nothing has came up.. So, I really have no idea what to do. I read to install something called windows installer cleanup, but I can't install any programs whatsoever..

Help is much appreciated:)

A:Windows Installer Help (printer install problems)

Here is a link to the HP page for your printer. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=427933&os=228

There is a patch for an install error there. If that does not work, download and install the driver from the web site.

If neither works, post back and we will try something else.

I am running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS. In an attempt to install the new iTunes 10 I receive an error that states that windows installer is not installed correctly. Is this a problem with Apple or with Windows?? This is the first time I have had a problem with an installation of any application with Windows 7. I did a complete uninstall of the previous version of iTunes and did so in the correct order per apples recommendation, and am attempting the download from apples recommended site. I have posted the same question in the apple support forum but I always seem to get better help with such fixes the the people here than with apple support. Thanks in advance for any help here.

A:windows installer wont install iTunes???
