I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Friends ... I have this laptop that has been given to me by my company and the USB ports have been blocked in manner such that I can copy stuff from my USB drive on to the machine but cannot copy in the reverse direction, ie. from the hard drive to the USB. Obviously it is to safeguard against theft of data. However, I do not deal with any confidential data and like to back up things every few days. Please tell me a shortcut to unlock my USB entirely even though I do not have administrator rights on the machine.

A:How to unlock USB ports without admin password?

Sorry, we will not assist in circumventing such security features, especially when the machine belongs to someone else.

I have an: DIXONH55ITX Socket 1156 Advent Firefly FP 3104 System Motherboard

I'm looking to upgrade for 2 main reasons.

1.) Upgrade my Ram, (as the limit of ram for this motherboard is 4gb.)
2.) More than 1 PCI-E slot. (There's only one on this motherboard.)

But my main question is:
What do I need to take into account when upgrading my Motherboard?
(Compatibility issues etc.)

Also any motherboard recommendations (under 200). As I'm planning on upgrading my computer to a gaming rig.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

A:What do I need to take into account when upgrading my motherboard?

Not quite understanding you. Are you wanting to keep all other parts and just upgrade mobo, ram and gpu?:

It sounds to me like you are wanting to build an entire new system. If so, give us a budget and what should be included (monitor, windows etc.).

I've been battling this one for a while as well, and what happens is when you plug in the power cord, the wireless device is disabled. If you pull up Device Manager, you can reenable the device there.

I'm on a Dell Latitude E6520 with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wifi device. This happens every time I plug in power, either on the laptop or when docking. I've gone through all power settings and driver settings for the wifi device, tried three different driver versions from Intel and Dell, to no avail. If anyone has solved this, tips would be appreciated.

A:Follow up on Dell that loses Wi-Fi when power plugged in

Oh geez... And I take one more pass through, and in the default Dell power plan (right click on the battery icon and pull up power options, then "Change Plan Settings", then "Change Advanced Power Settings". Expand "Wireless Adapter Settings", "Power Saving Mode", and change the Plugged In setting from "Disabled" to "Maximum Performance".

Sigh... Bad default from Dell. Looks like they're expecting you're using a landline connected docking station, but even then, why would you want to lose bluetooth and any standing wifi connections just because you plugged in. Dumb.

Hi all.

The computer that I was just given keeps losing sound everytime that I reboot it. And the only way that I can fix this is to uninstall the drivers for the sound and then, upon reboot, reinstall the sound drivers.

What is it that is causing this and what can I do to fix this? Thanks

For the ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 if your using Dual Slot GPU's this is true because the PCI slot is covered up my the bottem GPU, If your using Single Slot GPU's you will be fine. Hi!

First of all, I dont know if this is the right spot to ask about hosting, but since Techspot has helped me with a lot of computer related problems, I thought Id give it a try...

Anyways, Im about to buy a hosting plan from Hostgator, but I want to use one account to host at least 3 different sites (top domains, like firstpage.com, secondpage.com and thirdpage.com). I know the reselling account would be the most effective, but I dont need to have a different cPanel for each user.

Can this be done with a Baby plan? Im going to buy domain names from another company, but I guess that doesnt matter. Im new to all this hosting stuff, so any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

A:Hosting several sites on one account

that's all up to the hosting site policies - - don't hold your breath.

the Apache2 web server does this with <VirtualHost: ipaddress:80>

Hello TechSpot!
About two months ago I had wireless installed in the house. However, the tech could not figure out how to properly set up some aspects of the connection. I know a little about networking so I gave it a shot. My connection runs great until I start using it too much (I dont know how else to word it). It will mainly disconnect when I play on Xbox Live.
The router I'm using is a Linksys WRT310Nv2-CC

This computer has alot of problems that I look forward to correcting with your help!

A:Router randomly loses connection

Hi MetabolicHigh Welcome to Techspot,

This Router has know DNS issues and sometimes linkes certain sites such as facebook and yahoo to myspace and redirects the sites.

I would be a little worried if a Technician could not set up the wireless in your house. Here are a few things you may want to check:

Which service provider are you using? i would check to see if you have a download/usage limit attached to you package.
Signal. An unlikely proplem as your seem to be able to use it ok before it cuts out.
Does it automatically re-connect after the signal drops?
Have you checked that you have the latest firmware for your router?

In your post you say you have many issues with the computer so what other problems do you have as maybe somes of them are linked.

Hope this helps
James

I have an hp mini 1000 netbook with the admin passwords in the bios and win xp. It was my cousins who is no longer with us, so my aunt gave it to me. Noone knows the passwords. How can I bypass them or override them? I can get in as a guest but it is too limited. What are my best options?

A:HP Mini admin password unknown

You need to talk to HP, after changing the registered ownership, and may need a document about the fate of the previous owner. You may have to send it to a certified HP service center with a formal notice of change of ownership included.
As for TechSpot, there is a policy to not provide assistance with passwords.
What you want to do is usually very difficult in the best of circumstances.

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

3 days ago, I started to have this signal loss+reboot problem.

First day, it occured once at 5:55am
Second day, it occured once at 6:00am
Today, which is the third, it occured at 8:00pm and 2:00am

Describing what happened in details..
Basically, my monitor would randomly lose signal, but the background keeps going (such as MSN and music) , then it would automatically restart after few seconds.

I thought the problem was overheat caused by graphic card, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Some information about my system:
Motherboard: P5K-E
CPU: Q6600
RAM: 4GB
Monitor: SyncMaster 2243BWX
Graphic card: ATI Radeon 4800 Series
PSU: RCA 550R
OS: Windows XP SP3

Is anyone able to help solve my problem? Thanks in advance.
( Will provide more information as I don't know what else I should include)

You can't, it's considered as a different user. Just take the settings from Outlook and import them into the other account name.

OK, my subject line might sound cryptic! Here is my set up: first router (main) is connected to the cable modem and provides std addresses as 192.168.1.2 (base is 192.168.1.1) etc. I have a second router (same brand) as a gateway connected to my main. This second router base address is 10.10.10.1 and all that are connected to this one have manually provided IP addresses (such as 10.10.0.2, etc). The main one provides WIFI access as for the second one do not.

Now my question: from my laptop who uses the WIFI network, how can I reach or connect to the other network (the one that is managed with the router with the 10.10.10.1 address? The purpose? I would like to access the computer connected to it as if they were part of the WIFIed network. And be able to access the router management page. Any clue?

A:Cascading routers - how to access admin features from one to the other?

first some basics;

examine the router (the box itself). everything attached to a LAN slot will default to
routing upwards using the WAN slot -- that's a big clue as to what the routing tables looks like.

second; to manage the configuration of a specific router:
a) WIRE a system directly to it
b) login to the router config page using the current router's ip-address

if your network is
modem---router#1----router#2---router#3

then a system attached to routerX will route upward to router(X-1) and NOT downward to router(X+1)

if you wish to have ALL systems (wired and wireless) see and share with each other, then you have too many distinct address.
Leave router#1 as is. disconnect router#2 from #1 and wire router#1 to a LAN port on router#2, leaving its WAN port empty. Log into router#2 and disable DHCP.

Now do the same for the wire from #2-->#3 and disable#3 DHCP.

All systems (wired or WiFi) will get ip-assignments from router#1 and will be able to
ping and share files.

Whoo boy. A relative has a Win98SE machine that had been sitting unused for many years. It boots up fine, reasonable performance, etc. It is connected to a router via an Ethernet cable (brand new). He can get on the Internet and as long as he is active on it, he stays connected to that page (whether it is a game or email or whatever). However, if he walks away from the machine he loses his Internet connection and has to reboot the machine to get it back. Also, if he stays on one page for a while it will work fine (even gaming) but when he tries to navigate to another website or web page, he has lost his connection and he has to re-boot the machine. My first thoughts were his screensaver and/or his Power Saving feature, but they were turned off already. Any thoughts as to what else may be causing this problem?

A new home from the video card?

I have had similar issues in the past when all it took was to move the video card to a different slot. Sounds as if there are issues that seem to be intermittent pointing back to the video card. I would remove the video card use a good air cleaner (bottled air if possible) clean out all slots prior to reinstalling the video and try a new slot for the video card. A frustrating issue to say the least.

Hi all,
I've had a working WRT54gV7 for some time, but in the last couple of weeks, something has changed, and now each morning when I boot up the computer, there is no connection to the internet. As a result, I need to restart the router, which usually fixes the problem.
No sure what's going on, as nothing has really changed, although I did set up port forwarding for uTorrent.
I'm using the lastest version (I think. It's 7.00.4).
This is just annoying - any ideas would be gratefully received.
Chris.

A:Linksys WRT54GV7 loses connection to internet

You could try a hard reset of your Linksys WRT54GV7 router (usually by holding in the reset button with a pin for 30 secs.

You will lose all your settings, and will need to set it back up again
But in your case I believe it is worth it. It could also be faulty hardware

Cannot Login to Netgear DG834G router wirelessly from Dell Laptop

Hi heres hoping you can help me.

I have a wireless connection through a Netgear DG834G from a Dell M6300 running Windows XP which is working fine with respect to accessing the internet..

I also have a desktop (wired to the router) which is also running fine.

The problem is that I cannot log into the router wirelessly as Admin on 192.168.0.1
I can login to the router as Admin from the wired PC, but not the laptop !!
I get to the login screen to input password but when pressing enter the login box just re-appears with the password field blank again.
I know the password entered is correct and accurate as it works from the wired desktop

(note: I have changed my laptop recently from HP to Dell, I was able to access the router wirelessly as Admin to perform maintenance with the HP model)

Any ideas ?

A:Cannot connect to wireless router as admin wirelessly

Are all the settings correct for the wireless laptop.
encryption method WEP, WPA, WPA2
passwords

Does the router even see this new laptop?
Do you still have the older laptop?
Check to see if the DELL firewall is disabled under Windows, make sure it off.
Try opening up a session: ping 192.168.0.1
Does the laptop get IP by DHCP,

ipconfig /release wait.... ipconfig /renew wait... try it again does work then
try static IP then do ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns

If all still doesn't work try..
re-joining the wireless router
disconnect using the wireless in range method on the laptop
reconnect but remove the password then re-do it then click on connect see if the wireless laptop can connect.
If it does reboot the laptop and login with your login ID password
Now open the browser and see if you can get into your router
Make sure you do not have any spyware or popup blocker active..

Greetings,

Computer- Dell Inspiron 8100
Problem- Admin Bios Password

I have tried numoerous things, and in the end seems eeprom is only way to reset this.

I looked and looked, it says under motherboard, yet I never found a "24OC" 4 legged chip on the board to reset.

This cpu is 7 yrs old.

So far no luck fixing this one or my Toshiba and have both been reduced to eeprom reset as only viable option.

TY,

Hello all hardware wizards, sorry to take your precious time .

I just purchased HP NC8230 laptop from eBay. It's really great laptop. The laptop not require boot password and so it reaches to windows XP, but unfortunately I discovered that its bios is admin protected, therefore I can't access bios and make any modification. I know that these business laptops have extra bios protection and therefore it's not so easy task to reset their password.

Can someone, that have experience with this kind of laptops, help me? It would be very appreciated.

I am in sales. I have a new Dell d610 Latitude Laptop. I need to reset some of the stuff in the BIOS for wireless, etc and the IT guys at my company seem to have mislogged or fogotten the admin pw for BIOS. Anyway they have given me five alrady and non of them work. They say I will have to ship the unit in to Chicago and they will fix it. That will take a WEEK that I do not have. How can I reset the password? The settings in the BIOS I need to change are locked and the message says the setup is locked-enter the admin pw into SECURITY UNLOCK SETUP to enable changes. Any advice is welcomed!

I getting a bizarre problem with USB external storage devices. This is not the normal flash drive problem, though it occurs with both flash drives and an external DVD burner.

Basically, when I first boot up, any USB storage device is visible. However, when I attempt to write to the device (either through drag and drop to the flash drive or Roxio burner to a blank DVD/CD)...the copy operation begins...a few files are copies to the media...and then I get a "Cannot find the file/path" error.

The second symptom is a "ghost" USB Mass Storage Device that appears even when there is nothing attached to the computer. It has 0 GB of storage and cannot be accessed.

Anyone else hear of a similar problem?

I have several other USB devices (printer, wireless mouse, etc) that are working fine.

I recently bought a dell inspiron 6400 N series computer from a fellow soldier who left to return to the states. I was planning on using this computer for movie watching and to save pictures on to send to family. I went to turn it on one day after using it for a week and the computer started up to a screen that asked me for an administrator password. I did not receive this password or do not have knowledge of one that was saved. I cannot use this laptop and I was just starting to enjoy it! This was my way to have some down time away from this place. Can someone try and help me please? I tried to email rustam_ but got no reply. I tried to go to different websites but found no help. Someone please help me! I would really appreciate it.

A:Lost Admin Password in IRAQ help Dell6400 Inspiron

I'm assuming this is a windows password we're talking about here, and that you're running XP. If it is asking you for a BIOS password (black screen, white text), then you're probably screwed, unless there is a BIOS reset jumper within easy reach. If not, have fun opening the entire laptop to find it.

If it gets to windows and wants a password, try this:

grab either active password changer (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Active-Password-Changer.shtml)

or

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/)

Follow the instructions closely and there's a good chance one of the two will work.

Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000

Wireless internet picks up signal great, and as long as it's not plugged into the wall to charge wireless works fine, but once you plug it up to charge it'll take anywhere from 5-20 minutes and it'll lose connection. About 1-2 minutes later it will automatically reconnect. Then a few minutes later it will disconnect and reconnect again. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks

So this is with the pc connected directly to the router via an ethernet cable?
Go to My Network Places, and on the left theres a thing that says "show all UPnP devices" or similar. Click on it, then go to your LAN settings and set your IP address to auto, or 192.168.2.3 vice versa. Plug in/turn your router back on and it should come up as a network place. From that doubleclick it and enter admin etc..

A:Monitor loses signal as certin times

you say it "loses signal"... by that do you mean the computer remains on and you can still use it but cant see anything?

the first and most obvious thing to check would be the monitor cable, make sure that it's clean and not lose. wiggle the cable around to see if it "loses signal" again.

do you have another monitor that you could try?

also, make sure that you aren't setting the games video settings higher than your video card and monitor can handle.

It sounds to me like your power supply may be going bad. emachines are known for their low-quality motherboards and power supplies. it could be either one, but my guess is the power supply.

Welcome to Techspot !
When you reformatted back to windows you may not have set the drive properly. Each company is a little different but basically they need a small app(permanently installed) to maintain Data and system functions, etc. to work in different machines. I suggest you go to the manufacturer's website and confirm the correct way to reset the unit and how to install it's setup file.

I have setup my computer (WinXP Home) to have two user accounts. I've noticed that often (maybe always) whichever account is initially logged into when the computer is first booted up seems to be the only account from which the CD or DVD drives can be accessed. What can I do to correct this?

I have an older HP900 laptop which is a nice size to take in our motor home. However, it overheats after running for about 15 minutes. I understand there is a bios update that turns the cooling fan on sooner but I can't get into the bios because of password protection. Any ideas on how to crack the password or any pins to short to reset it?

The laptop will run fine if I rais it off the table and have a fan blowing on it from behind. Cooling fan in laptop runs, but it only comes on shortly before a shutdown if I am not running an additional fan blowing under it.

thanks for any ideas or help

Woodie

A:admin password

Yes. Ask the admin using e-mail for example

No one will be able to give a sensible answer to such a vague question.

And no, no one is going to tell you how to steal peoples passwords and do other illegal or unethical stuff.

Have been using my new Lynksys wireless G router at home for several months with no problems. Suddenly, both laptops (one connected by ethernet cable, the other wireless) lose internet connection freqently (10 to 15 times a day). Using Charter Cable for ISP. Both laptops still have connection to the router and the Charter cable modem box shows all green lights with internet connected. The only way to get it back is to power cycle the router. Just unplug it (the power cord) and plug it back in and all is well...for a while, then it loses connection again. Have done extensive troubleshooting with Charter and found nothing. No service outages or intermittent service. Any ideas would be apprecitated. Do I need to replace the router? Have not tried connecting one of my machines directly to the cable modem. I guess I will do that next but thought someone may have heard of this problem before. Thanks for your help.

A:Lynksys wireless router loses internet connection

What does the router itself say about the internet connection? See the status page.

Make sure the auto-disconnect feature is disabled and the auto-reconnect enabled on the router.

Ok firstly I should mention that one solution to this problem would be to plug the HD into my machine and use fsutil to reset the dirty flag However and pwd set unbootable to No dirty Need xp - flag admin I m a stubborn person and know that there must be a way of doing this easily without taking my machine to bits If I do it in what is for this occasion the hard way I will be able to save a little time in the future should the situation arise again I ve been asked to fix an unbootable computer I had intended to boot into the recovery console to issue chkdsk r fixboot and fixmbr commands Unfortunately I the admin password for the installation isn t available it s been forgotten rolleyes and so I can t log into it I used the offline NT password amp registry editor utility but because the drive is flagged dirty improper shutdown no doubt It won t change or blank the password So I got out my trusty NTFS DOS CD and booted into DOS taking a copy of FSUTIL with me which as expected doesn t work under DOS Hoping that the password was something simple ish I grabbed a copy of the SAM and Systemf files from system config and tried cracking the administrator password It seems that the password is at least characters and so will take an age to crack This leaves me with the option of resetting the dirty bit on the volume so that I can reset the admin password to blank boot into the recovery console and repair windows but I see no fsutil equivelant for DOS probably because NTFS was never meant Need to set dirty flag - No admin pwd and xp unbootable for DOS lol It occurs to me though that there must be some utility or other that ll do it or failing that various linux flavours Need to set dirty flag - No admin pwd and xp unbootable have NTFS support and should be able to do it - or possibly some sort of live recovery cd for windows Any ideas anybody All this for the sake of a single BIT of info on the hard drive A simple or It s outrageous lol nbsp Need to set dirty flag - No admin pwd and xp unbootable

Auditor Security cd from remote-exploit.org is what you need my friend very handy for cracking admin passwords. just boot to it and you are gold. don't know if you are familiar with this collection cd and if not they have the instruction pdf on the site for download as well. it will crack a 8 letter and asterick password in probably ten to twenty minutes..my admin pass is 15 unprintables and asterick characters and it cracked it with the incremental option on the sam file. took alot longer than it should for your current issue..just an idea mate

A:Monitor loses signal when Windows starts up

You said you double checked the cables, but double-double check that you don't have TWO video cards or two plugs on the video card. Such as having onboard video and AGP. If you have two video cards, try the other one.

Otherwise, to rule out a driver issue, can you get into Safe Mode? To get here, press F8 on your keyboard BEFORE you ever see any Windows logos. You can just press F8 once every second as the system boots if you like, to make sure you don't miss it.
You should get a menu, use the arrow keys to choose Safe Mode.
If that works fine, then it's a driver problem. If it still doesn't work, or the monitor cuts off even before this, then it could be a video problem instead I suppose.

And you might already know, but the system can still be working fine even though you don't see anything. Is it still churning away on the hard drive in the background? Do you hear your startup windows sound (if you have one). Does it sound and feel like it's booting normal even without the video? Or does it seem like the system just halts?

That aught to get us started.

I m hoping someone has an idea loses signal Monitor recently what my problem is as I ve seen this problem on other forums so maybe I can help someone else I ve had an AMD Athlon Asus A n x-e motherboard setup Monitor loses signal recently for about two years now that was running windows with a geforce graphics card and a gig of ram watt power supply A few months ago I bought a copy of XP and upgraded Still several months of smooth sailing and lots of World of Warcraft playing About two weeks ago the monitor started losing the signal I would start the computer and right after xp was going to load and have me log in Monitor loses signal recently the monitor would go to standby as if it lost the signal Monitor loses signal recently Over the course of two weeks it started happening more often Sometimes I could get logged in and have a whole day of usage out of the computer including playing games or other times I d have to reset it fifteen times before it would let me use it for hours Over the last couple of days the loss of signal began happening while playing games or web browsing A little more random than at the xp startup point I swapped monitors bought a new graphics card and I m still dealing with the issue Today I was getting a one in ten chance that the computer would get to windows without losing the monitor signal Then cross my fingers would get some gaming time Today I gave up and waited for my new vid card to show up After installing the Geforce gs and reinstalling drivers for the MBoard direct x vid card bios nforce drivers it still randomly resets Very often when switching to a game and after a couple of minutes of desktop web browsing Because this problem has gotten worse over time I m assuming some hardware has degraded in my system I had plenty of time with win and several months with xp with no problems I m now looking at replacing my cpu motherboard and power supply as that s all I have left to replace Oh two other oddities Twice during my restarting to get it to work the computer would not only lose the monitor signal but would shut down and restart at the same time Only happened twice but makes me think something weird is going on I also noticed that when the monitor loses the signal I hear the harddrive turn off and the cpu working light goes on full time Not sure if that was happening all the time Earlier it seemed the computer was running but I d lost the signal Sign of things getting worse Other thing I noted is that the vid card I got requires a watt power supply I have a I had to unplug two hard drives and two fans from the power supply to get the computer to boot properly It kept failing around the xp time to boot I m assuming I need a bigger power supply Any thoughts appreciated I m gonna talk to my more tech savvy buddies at work Would be nice to nail this down to one component I m assuming it s hardware failing since I got so much time out of the setup for so long nbsp

Yes you need a bigger and better PSU. 430W is never a full 430, it's more like 300 with the generic/cheapys. It's prob 2 yrs old too and ready to die. Replace it before you damage your new 6800GT.

You said you had to unplug 2 fans to get it to boot, that says it all right there.

Hey all I have hit upon a really annoying problem I just did a complete reformat of my computer and I have been trying to get my video drivers to work Here s my problem The card TI-4400 GeForce4 Signal Loses Monitor Install Driver - After works I get video and everything and I can boot to Windows XP fine Then I install my Nvidia drivers and restart the computer like it says and as soon as the computer finishes loading Windows just when it should go to the welcome screen the monitor goes black and then says it has no signal If I restart in safe mode and then uninstall the drivers I can boot normally again It functions on the basic Microsoft Driver GeForce Ti- Microsoft Corporation but as soon as I try and install drivers from Nvidia the problem happens again I have tried the newest drivers and two older drivers I also have tried a friend s ATI Radeon SE card and that seems to work except that their Catalyst program locks up my computer when it tries to detect the optimal GPU settings I am wondering if the two issues could be related Anyway if anyone could provide any help here that would be excellent nbsp

A:Monitor Loses Signal After Driver Install - GeForce4 TI-4400

It sounds like you missed chipset/agp chipset drivers when you reformatted your system. These wont come into play until accelerated AGP graphics drivers are attempted to be installed/initialized.

What mainboard do you have? You should obtain the newest motherboard chipset drivers and then retry your driver installation woes.

Fortunately, not all errors in the Event Viewer (EV) are real problems. Actually, many are not problems at all. You can adjust the size of the records that are being held in the EV by right-clicking either Application, Security or System and selecting Properties. You can set the size of each file to keep or clear.

Ok guys here is a problem which may take some time to comprehend if you have ANY questions just ask me and i will clarify I know this is going to be tough so i drew a diagram to help you out A little Connection*** House Loses Networked background info we bought our house about months ago it is fully capable of being hardwired for networking the only Networked House Loses Connection*** problem is some rooms only have jack so it can either be phone or internet There are bedrooms total on the network is wireless are wired There are routers reason being my moms office is where the modem is and she only has jack she wants phone and internet the other is Networked House Loses Connection*** in the main room where all the wires meet So here is the dilema Every now and again maybe Networked House Loses Connection*** - times aday no particular pattern the internet goes down but its not necessarily that if im on aim i can still talk but i cant go on IE its almost like it loses power Now it happens when only my comp is online when are on every possible combination there is so its not that we are exceeding bandwith Ive noticed the simple solution is going all the way to my moms room and unplugging the router and plugging it back in Unplugging the modem doesnt work so i know its not the line and its not the computers because they ALL go down So i unplug the router plug it back in and WHAM it all works Now my dad is on wireless becuase the router is close to him and he needs the jack for business so i dont think its a problem with the line even though the upload for the nd router goes all the way back to the main area FAQ Q- Have you tried a new router A - No i havent im waiting to see if this can be resolved otherwise Q - Have you tried updating the firmware of the router A- Yes I have latest version Q - Have you tried taking out the router and plugging the upload in BR Directly to the wall A- No I havent I m sure a couple of these might narrow it down but my mom and dad cant afford to be down from internet for long to trial and error So what are you suggestions do i have a bad router Thanks alot nbsp

A:Networked House Loses Connection***

If you can still chat on AIM, it sounds to me like your router is a possible source of the problems, but in my experience the least likely source. AIM I'm pretty sure does most of its connections over IP. I don't think it uses any sort of DNS. This would make me think that you're having trouble resolving DNS names.

Do ALL of your machines have problems, or is it just your computer that has issues when this occurs? And does rebooting a machine help its symptoms? I can't tell the scale of your house from the diagram, but keep in mind that roughly 300ft is the typical accepted max length for a single span of cat5. I'd find it hard to believe you'd surpassed that, but it's worth a mention.

When you see this occur, can you traceroute to a place by location name? How about the same place by IP? That might give you some clues where to look. Might see if something like Windows file sharing between computers still works.

Based on what you've given us, I'd say the router is a definate possibility. But unless I missed something, I think we really need some more details before we can help you any more. Hope this helps in some way.

I'm a little confused by this. Isn't the whole point of using a sandboxed browser is that nothing leaves it. SAS picked this up:

accounts.key.com [ C:\AVAST! SANDBOX\S-1-5-21-3583729876-1247344376-3946384776-1000\SFZONE\C\USERS\NIGHTMARE\APPDATA\ROAMING\MACROMEDIA\FLASH PLAYER\#SHAREDOBJECTS\JG77RLU5 ]
I assumed that with a sandbox, stuff like this (especially a key bank flash cookie) would simply not exist.
Also, there is no C:\Avast!. I installed Avast to a custom folder and Avast doesn't use the word "Sandbox" to describe it's program in any files, always "SafeZone".

Don't get me wrong, pc's fine. I'm just wondering if this is typical or if Avast just makes a crappy sandbox.

When I bought my new laptop with Windows 8 preferred me to create a Microsoft Account and use it to sign each to access Windows. After doing some reading I understand it syncs things like personal settings such as wall paper, font etc. What else does it sync? For example it seems to automatically connect other Microsoft products to the Microsoft Account used to log in to Windows, for example it automatically signed in Onenote which now stores notes in the cloud.

Does signing through a Microsoft Account backup programs and data of other programs? For example if I installed Adobe Photoshop and created a image using it and had my laptop stolen, would it have automatically be saved to the cloud?

A:Temporarily turn off email account in Yahoo mail

Yahoo email filters are poor; they only support the model:
block email-id is [email protected]and spammers continue to reach you by changing the user portion. Better email client software supports that as well as:
block email-id contains @domainand regardless of the email user, that domain gets blocked

fyi: Thunderbird is my favorite email software

So my friend created an MSN / Windows Live account so she could talk to some friends.
Apparently every time she tries to add a contact, and then send them a message, it doesn't work.

I had her test this by adding my username, and it didn't pop up with the normal "accept and add?" dialogue box.
I messed with this a bit further and got no where.

I decided to test this in a controlled environment. I created a new Windows Live account.
I then signed on to the account with meebo (a browser-based IM client) and tried to send myself a message.
It didn't work.

I'm lost at this point. I don't know what the problem could be at all. Any insight would be appreciated.

The prompt for Admin during installs is actually a good thing (that is the UAC and you REALLY want it to prompt) BUT you can almost always use any log in the Administrators Group

use CP->User Accounts
add user
set type = Admin
*must* add password to it

save and close

runas /user:$whatever$you$just$created cmd
give that password

it will then create the %profile% for that new user

From then on, you can reply with $whatever$you$just$created and its password

I wanted to change my user account name so I followed instructions from a article I found online in which it looked credible enough but apparently not It instructed to RUN quot Control Userpasswords quot which brings up the User accounts window Then I clicked on account I wanted to change name which happens to be main Admin account and clicked on quot PROPERTIES quot There I was able to change quot USER NAME quot Everything seemed fine until I tried to open WORD but failed with an error message it read quot click run virtualization han quot on top of window and the number quot quot inside the window I then went back to reverse what I did and found the quot USER ACCOUNT quot window empty my account that used to be there was deleted So I tried to System Restore and that failed with another error window I also noticed I was not able to open UNINSTALL PROGRAMS window can any body help me I would greatly appreciate your time nbsp

A:Accidentally deleted admin account by changing user name

Start Windows system restore before you boot. Tap F8 key as it's turning on, you'll get the option (Windows 7).

So I can't install my adobe acrobat pro unless I'm logged in under admin.
Any idea how I can do this to my other account?
This happens with multiple programs, not just adobe.
I am running windows xp Pro

A:Software won't run unless under admin account

make the other accounts admin. or install software for all the users.

if you only have limited account restart computer and keep pressing F8 button and when options show up choose Safe Mode and choose Administrators Account.

Hope it helps

Had a virus, got all cleaned up thanks to Broni, in the Virus Forums....

Still having Excel issues...if I try to open an Excel file without Excel already loaded.
Excel opens but requests User account Control Authorization before it will carry on.
Then says: "There was a problem sending the command to the program"...(the location of the file is displayed on the outside frame of this error)...then Excel loads on top of it with no file open.

I did move some files around to tidy things up prior to getting rid of the virus...but...

There are some files that Excel will open once it is loaded....those are displayed in Excel's recent files list....

Not sure if I should try uninstalling and reinstalling, repair fix maybe...??

Suggestions most appreciated.

A:Excel asking for User Account Control authorization

The fastest solution will likely be to uninstall Excel (or the entire Office suite) and then perform a new installation of it. That won't affect any existing documents you've been using but will give you a fresh install of your Office software now Broni has finished with ridding your computer of nasties.

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone know of any tool that can simplify the process of configuring roaming user profiles. I have 4 computer; 2 running XP and 2 Running Win 7 (Ultimate and Home Premium). I want to make my Win7 Ultimate my main computer (server) and store a user account in it which can then be accessed from any of the other computers. So, Is there any software to simplify this as I am sort of running into trouble!

Thanks in advance

I am trying to find a way to run some admin apps or utilities from my flash drive so that my tools and credientials are available and valid where ever I might be onsite.
Tools that I use are simple ones like Active Directory, DHCP, and a vpn app called Bozteck. Portability would make support more readily available.

A:Portable admin tools?

Here have used a program that runs various portable apps from a flash stick.
Whether it would work with security and your various log-ins I don't know.
But can say this program is easy to work with and to carry many types of program around. It's at;

Hi all,

a works laptop has gone screwey (it mainly affects the user account) and i need to get the pop3 mail settings etc off that account.
It lets me log in as admin only, albeit very slow and haphazard. It hangs when trying to log in as the user.
Whilst logged in as admin is there any way i can access the users email and export to a .pst so i can then re-import it onto a working laptop? If i log in to the user in safe mode, then try opening outlook it comes up with an error, asking me to restart the program or reinstall.
Using Outlook 2003 on XP Pro SP2 laptop.
Thanks for any help offered

A:Exporting users .pst from Admin account

Just browse to the relevant folder in the user's Documents and Settings..

If it denies access, take ownership of the folder and subfolders.
