I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you cleaned out the HS and Fan to remove any dust? Have you checked the CPU fan to see if it's operating properly?

You may want to just get a good aftermarket cooler.

Please Help - ASAP - Thank you in Advance.
(I did also post this under Business Applications, before realizing it should probalby go here - sorry about that)

I'm just STUCK on this one last bit of my code to finish off this macro for a meeting today

I am Copying a Range of data, from a specific sheet on about 36 Workbooks
I need to paste only certain columns from that copied info, into a new worksheet.

Maybe I'm making this sound too difficult... at this point all I need is:

Columns A-E, K, P, S-U, W, AB-AC, AE-AH, AJ-AK, from the "TargetData" (Defined Range) on Customer Targets worksheet of Test1, to Paste into Columns A-S of the Build Worksheet

This should be easy right? I'm having a mind block...

I am trying to lookup a range of values within excel and then return a list of values within one cell.

Here is an example of the data.

Data Sheet

Acura A new york
Acura b charlotte
acura c los angeles
acura d San Francisco
BMW a San Diego
BMW b Rochester
BMW c San Antonio
Lookup Sheet

Acura a C

Basically I want to see all the acura values from the range of a to c written to a single cell on the lookup sheet. So after the lookup, the lookup sheet would look like:
Acura a c New York, Charlotte, Los angeles
I've tried using a mixture of arrays, matches, lookups, etc... but Im stuck. I think it may require some coding which I am not strong in.

any help would be appreciated.

Dave.

A:Excel Lookup Range and return range

Hi there, welcome to the board!

While someone might get a fancy formula, and I know you could do it that way, I think it'd be too difficult to manage, let alone go back to it in six months and still understand it. I would go for VBA and write a UDF. This does work, assuming the car type is in (specifically in this example I use below) column A, the letters in column B, and city in column C. This also is predecated on the assumption that column B is sorted in ascending order, otherwise it won't work. If that is going to be an issue, we would just need to put in a sort routine in the array. That being said, use this code...
Code:
Option Explicit

Const sDelim As String = ", "

Function GETLIST(rLook As Range, vType As Variant, vStart As Variant, vEnd As Variant) As Variant
Dim wsLook As Worksheet, iStart As Long, iEnd As Long, iStop As Long
Dim i As Long, arrData() As Variant, vData As Variant
arrData = rLook.Value
iStop = 0
For i = LBound(arrData) To UBound(arrData)
If LCase(arrData(i, 1)) = LCase(vType) Then
If arrData(i, 2) = vStart Then iStart = i
If arrData(i, 2) = vEnd Then iEnd = i
If iStart > 0 And iStop = 0 Then
vData = vData & arrData(i, 3) & sDelim
End If
If iEnd > 0 Then iStop = 1
End If
Next i
If iStart = 0 Or iEnd = 0 Then
GETLIST = "ERROR!"
Exit Function
End If
If Len(vData) > 0 Then
If Right(vData, Len(sDelim)) = sDelim Then
vData = Left(vData, Len(vData) - Len(sDelim))
End If
GETLIST = vData
Else
GETLIST = "ERROR!"
End If
End Function
This goes into a standard module. So follow these steps to install it:
With the file in question active, hit Alt + F11
Hit Alt + I, M
Delete any code and paste the above code (do not duplicate the Option Explicit at the top of the module)

I had my original data in Sheet2, and the lookup criteria on another sheet (doesn't matter which sheets, but used this for my example), and the formula looked like this...
Code:
=GETLIST(Sheet2!$A$1:$C$7,A2,B2,C2)
There are four parts to the syntax.

Part 1
Sheet2!$A$1:$C$7
This is the range of data you want to look up, column A housed the car make, column B the letter, column C the city

Part 2
A2
This is the cell I stored the criteria for the make I wanted to look up (in my example it housed "Acura")

Part 3
B2
This is the cell I stored the criteria for the letter identifier, to start (in my example it housed "a")

Part 4
C2
This is the cell I stored the criteria for the letter identifier, to end (in my example it housed "c")

The formula then returned this:
new york, charlotte, los angeles

Like I said, if column B is not sorted it will not return all results, as it quits adding to the returned value once the end letter is seen. If neither value is seen it will return the "ERROR!" result.

Hello Hack-KnightWelcome to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum, sorry for the delay in responding, but the amount of people posting with infected computers is through the roof and we sometimes can't get to logs as fast as we would like to. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and we really do not have the time to analyze your log, work up a fix only to get no response from you. On Sep 7 2007, you posted here and never followed through. This most likely why no one has picked up your log.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/107424/need-information-on-my-hijackthis-log/If you have not resolved this issue and still need assistance, post a new HJT log as your system may have changed since your original post.Ken

I ran a scan with the MS Safety Scanner, but made the mistake of setting it for a full scan. Nearly 10 hours later, after scanning ~ 8.6 Milllion files, it initially said that it had found 12 infected files. However, when I opened the window to view these files, only 3 were listed. I set the scanner to remove those, but then it displayed another window with the results of that, as shown in the screenshot, with a longer list of files, but only showed 1 as removed, while the others showed only partially removed. After the amount of time I invested in this scan, I rather expected a more complete fix than this.

Is there a good reason why it didn't totally remove these files? In any case, it still doesn't add up to 12 files.

A:MSS Hits

Hi, seekermeister.

As I indicated in my tutorial, How to Use the New Microsoft Safety Scanner,

Quote:
To provide "breathing space" on an infected computer, run a Quick Scan first and then follow with a Full scan. If you have a lot of files, the scan may take up to several hours to complete. Allow plenty of time for the scan to run to completion.

The additional findings were most likely variants of the actual findings. Did you click the name to view the additional steps for complete removal as instructed?

A:Zlog Hits Again !

Hello there and welcome to Bleeping Computer's security forum. My name is David, I will be helping you with your log today. It is a good idea to print off these instructions:This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available. You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above. A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost. Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.You are using the LimeWire p2p file sharing program. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly. It also opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it from your computer.Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/I suggest you remove the program now. Of course if you decide to keep it, it's not a problem.Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present:LimeWireThis is another article you can read:http://www.cexx.org/adware.htmPlease download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmdSelect option #1 - Search by typing 1, and press Enter. A text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.David

Hi paulw001 and welcome to BC.Sorry for the delay in response to your thread. Please take note of the following:1. Please do not run any other tools unless instructed.2. The cleaning process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you that your computer is clean.3. If there's anything that you don't understand, please ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.4. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.Step 1Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.Click on the Scan button.AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer. After the scan has finished...Click on the Clean button.Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.Step 2Download OTL to your desktop.right click on the link and select 'Save Link/Target As'.if you have problems, try this download link:OTLDouble click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check..Now copy the lines in bold below.netsvcsmsconfig%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*%systemroot%\system32\Spool\prtprocs\w32x86\*.dll%systemroot%\*. /mp /s%systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles%systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles%systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles%systemroot%\system32\*.exe /lockedfiles%systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav%PROGRAMFILES%\*%USERPROFILE%\..|smtmp;true;true;true /FPHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AUhklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /rshklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /64 /rsCREATERESTOREPOINTright click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the blue bar) and choose Paste..Click the Run Scan button.Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long. When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them with your next reply. In your next reply, please submit:JRT.txtAdwCleaner reportand both reports from OtlThanks.

Have you cleaned out the fans and vents on the laptop?

That temp is near the max for that processor and chances are if its getting that hot then your GPU is also running very hot.

What is the exact model of the laptop you have?

Temps that high are not normal.

Since I upgraded to XP I've been seeing pretty steady hits to TCP port 80 in my firewall log. I never saw this kind of activity prior to the OS upgrade and am curious as to whether anyone else is seeing this or has any ideas on the cause? I know 80 is HTTP, but I'm not running any web services off this system, and should be invisible to the outside world ala ZoneAlarm...

A:Frequent hits on TCP 80 in XP

Go here and run a scan.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/index.html

Go 1/2 way down the page and you will see the big icon to click on.

Maybe it's a bug one of the programs working with XP but you never know so trying it here will let you know if you get the same report or not.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread. I've created a new thread for your issue here. Thanks for your cooperation.

I've split your thread out from the other postings.

Hi everyone Good news Hijack this has made it It s on the cover disc of PC Utilities a UK based computer magazine Bad News It is described thus A general homepage hijacker detector and remover Click to expand It s the genuine hijack zip file v I ran it to hits HJT! big the time.. make sure It comes with no instructions no disclaimer and no warning as to what can happen if the wrong entries are deleted I think we can all guess the worst case scenario Treat everything scanned HJT! hits the big time.. as harmful and delete the lot I know Merijn put a few words of advice on top of the main screen but that was meant for the likes of us rather than a home user I look at these logs day in day out and I still have to ask occasionally for advice from others and I think in varying levels that this applies to pretty much everyone except possibly Tony or Pieter We all come across an entry we haven t seen before HJT! hits the big time.. and that s with the advantage of knowing where to look How s a beginner going to get it right The good thing is that it is bundled on a double HJT! hits the big time.. CD with a thousand other utilities etc so hopefully not many will find it I found it because I was looking for it Just thought I d let everyone know in advance of the likelyhood of people screwing up their computers and coming here for help There are a utilities on the two discs some I know most I don t I think it pretty certain that others on it could carry the same potential for PC decimation if not used properly The magazine is in circulation so it s pretty pointless emailing anyone to let them know so I thought I d keep it our little secret Prepare to busy undoing botched HJTs Just cos we know HJT makes backups doesn t mean your average Joe will As I say there s no instruction with it Cheers Liam nbsp

First

download AdAware 6 181
Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the

"webupdate".

Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within

archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for

banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized

processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and tick "Automaticly try to

unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan itīs just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it.

then
Download Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot

remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left, however a combination of spybot & adaware should get rid of most if not all of your spyware

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this or heard of it. Malwarebytes registered 25,000 hits. Basically 7 or 8 different virus names comes up. No root kits. I've run several other AV programs and no hits. (Besides a few pieces of adware.) I'm working with Malwarebytes to see what's up. Thanks ~ jeremyEdit: Moved topic from Breaking Virus & Security News to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:Cpu Usage Randomly Hits 100%

Hi -

Very unusual to see Explorer.exe use 82% CPU continuously.

Remove AVG - http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

Reboot upon completion. Install MSE - http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx

Check with Resource Monitor - see what additional detailed info says about Explorer -
START | type perfmon /res

I keep having this problem where using DVD Shrink or Windows Movie Maker will max out my processor between 90 and 100%. After a minute or two of converting a DVD or publishing a movie, my computer will just shut down. I've tried closing pretty much every other application I can and the problem still persists. Here are my computer specs:

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
5.2 Windows Experience Index
Intel Core 2 CPU - [email protected]
2046 MB ram
700 Watt power supply

Any thoughts?

Thanks

A:Processor hits 90-100% and shuts down

I think its ur CPU Overheating.
What are the temps like when it maxes out ur CPU to (90-100)% ?
The temps may be reaching the threshold limit causing CPU to shutdown to prevent damage.
Make sure the Heatsink is seated properly.
Also, remove dust(if any) between the fins of the CPU FAN.

How can I know that my computer hits by virus with out any program.

A:how can i know that my computer hits by virus

Hello Alan and welcome to Seven Forums.

If I'm understanding your question, you want to know how you can tell if your computer is infected when you don't have any anti-virus program installed. I went to a couple of respected anti-virus company websites to see what they have to say:

Symptoms | Infected Computer

Computer Virus Symptoms

How To Detect Malware Infection On Your Computer | Lavasoft

And a couple of general information articles:

HowStuffWorks "How to Know if Your Computer is Infected with a Virus"

How can I tell if my computer has a virus?

How to tell if your computer is infected with spyware

How to prevent and remove viruses and other malware

Personally, if you're on the internet, there's no good reason to operate a computer without an anti-virus suite. Even if you're not connected to the internet you should still have an anti-virus suite installed. Maybe someone shares a flash drive with you and it has music or videos on it. Maybe it also contains a virus or other malware. There are so many free products to choose from. Here's a Seven Forums' thread:

What's the Best Anti-virus?

Or you can google best free antivirus products and you will find all kinds of reviews. Here's just one:

Best Free Antivirus Software

If I misunderstood your question, I sincerely apologize. If you give a bit more info about what it is you're trying to find out...

You realize you could have set Norton Anti Virus not to scan daily or probably even to scan at a specific time, right?

That's not Windows Explorer, that's explorer.exe - the shell - the graphical user interface. I'm guessing your system is infected. You might want to post in the Am I Infected forum.

It just keeps restarting before it even lets me see a boot screen?
Keeps restarting every 6 secs or so. Sometimes 2secs.
Monitor keeps blinking its standby light. I never see anything on the screen. nadda.
Just one reboot ago I installed PortIO32 driver manually. Could that have something to do with it?
Installed PortIO32 driver to Flash my 360 drive. Flash was successful, but after I shut down ,unplugged SATA to XBOX drive and re-inserted SATA to its original pc dvd drive this happened.
No other change was made hardware-wise.

Help please.

Hello,

I don't know if this would be a virus problem or a hardware problem. But I ran the Malware software to remove the Tops Hits Arcade virus and after the scan was done, it asked me to reboot. My PC booted down but hasn't powered off and the fan has gotten much much louder. I'm afraid to manually power down the pc. Any thoughts on what to do next? If you think this is a hardware issue, let me know and I'll repost in that forum.

TIA!

A:PC keeps restarting before it hits boot

First, with the PC off of course, and the AC plug removed, try re-seating all your cards including ram. Then clear your cmos by taking the battery out for about 20 seconds, put it back in and reboot.

Lightning hit nearby a couple of days ago. When I turned on my PC, I could see Windows loading dimly on my monitor. After several moments of this, the monitor's status showed "no signal." I hooked up another monitor and it did the same thing, ruling out monitor damage. I've looked at the back and inside the case and can't see any signs of burned wires or scorched surfaces.

I'm not sure if I'm on the right forum but if anyone has any advice on what the problem might be, I would appreciate the input. I would like to know if it would be worth trying to get it fixed or if I should just trash it.

A:Lightning hits newbie

Check the motherboard's capacitors make sure they are not bulging or leeking.

First thing to try is another power supply.

Edit:

Check Capacitor plague

Chances are a power supply replacement will fix you up, just remember, some components might live shorter depending on how good your power supply protected them before scrifing itself

How would I alter search plugins other than Google to get 100 results per page instead of 10? Someone told me how to do that to the Google search plugin, but different plugins use different syntax, and the trick does not work with others. The ones I want to change are Start Page and Clusty.

A:More hits with search plugins

You would probably have more luck asking the support team for the other search engines - the question is directly dependent on how the other search engines work.

Hi
Make sure you have already run Adaware, Spybot S & D(check for updates) as these will do a preliminary clean first. Some files below may not be present after running the above programs.

Then....
Turn off your System Restore SEE HERE Reinstate it when your log is cleaned and then create a new restore point.Close your browser window and run hjt in safe mode... HOW TO RUN SAFE MODE and have "Hijack This" fix all the following items by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting "fix checked".
Folders that have been highlighted RED in the log will need to be uninstalled.Check first as some folders maybe uninstalled via the Add/Remove program. Make sure to have your system set to show hidden files and folders.. HOW TO SHOW FILES ..Please get the latest HJT v1.98.2 ,reboot and post a new log when finished...

Hi and welcome

I suspect you are using homgroup and it uses IPv6. In vista it uses IPv4. IPv6 is known to couse random slowdowns, drops, and connectivity problems.

I also DL from usenet with newsbin. Changing to IPv4 cured the problem. Let us know if you need help changing from homegroup to workgroup

Hello MarkI would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with one of these just skip it and move on to the next one.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Scan. After the scan is complete click on "Clean"Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.-Junkware-Removal-Tool-Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.Run the tool by double-clicking it. When they are complete let me have the two reports and let me know how things are running.Gringo

My computer seems to run fine for while after startup and the CPU usage is fairly low. However at a certain point, (often if I'm watching a video) the CPU usage suddenly hits 100% and the computer runs really slowly.
Even if I close all my applications, it will still have a high CPU usage and my computer will run really slowly. I find the only thing I can do is restart the computer.
I've looked at the processes and the percentages for each and I find they don't add up to the total CPU percentage (see picture). Does this have anything to do with it? Is there any way of finding out what else my CPU is doing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Download HWMonitor from here:

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Make sure to download the .zip file to your desktop.

Once downloaded to your desktop unzip the hwmonitor.zip folder to your desktop.

Open up the unzipped folder and run either the 32bit Software or 64bit Software.
How to tell the difference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218
Allow HWMonitor to run while the PC is at an idle state. After about five minutes of running at idle take a screenshot and save the image to your desktop.

Now allow HWMonitor to run while gaming or doing heavy processing for about five minutes. Take another screenshot and save the image to your desktop.

In your next reply please include both screenshots.

I use norton firewall and antivirus, while checking my activities, I noticed that I was hit with a lot of ISP numbers in a row, for about 6 minutes, several seconds inbetween them. The numbers stayed basically the same except for a number changed once in a while. They all mostly ended in 4661. One of the numbers is 200.71.15.178.4661 Is there a freeware program out there that can help you track back to the sender? Norton blocked them, they were using the unused ports. Norton doesn't say much of anything on how to find out what they were or where they came from. Someone really wanted to get in on that day, 18 hits in all. There were hits the previous day also but only about 6 on the unused ports. Different ISP numbers.

A:Top Arcade Hits Adware and New Window Pop-up

Hi and Welcome!!

My name is Jeff. I would be more than happy to take a look at your malware results logs and help you with solving any malware problems you might have. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and know that I am working hard to get you a clean and functional system back in your hands. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
If you happen to have a flash drive/thumb drive please have that ready in the event that we need to use it.
Please be sure to subscribe to the topic if you have not already done so.
IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete, download or install anything unless instructed to do so.
DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision. Doing so could make your system inoperable and could require a full reinstall of your operating system and losing all your programs and data.

Having said that.... Let's get going!!
----------

AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

I can hear my hard drive working away even though I wasn't running any programs so thought it might be something going on, online. However, disconnecting from the internet made no difference. When checking the CPU it was showing 90 - 100%

If I check my trend pc-cillen firewall logfiles they are showing hits almost several times every minute.

I have included the current logfile. It's been doing this for a few weeks according to the logs. It's an 'always on' broadband connection.
Fujitsu, Windows XP, Pentium 4, 3.00GHz, 1.00GB RAM,

Thanks, Ken

A:Multiple hits.. Troy44 biggest?

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Sorry for the delayed response. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately, the systerm is infected with a couple of dangerous malware, with backdoor capabilities giving intruders complete control of your computer, logging key strokes, stealing information, etc. I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to alert them to your situation.

Though the Trojans have been identified and can be killed, because of their backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. In all honesty, if this were to be my computer, I would reformat and reinstall Windows XP.

Please read these for more information:

Danger: Remote Access Trojans
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...o/virusrat.mspx

When should I re-format? How should I reinstall?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so but it is not fully guaranteed that your computer will be completely rid of malware regardless of what anyone can really do.

Even if it can compete with the i7, people have been going with Intel for better performance for so long now, they're just going to keep going to Intel naturally now.

If it can compete though, it will make Intel release the newer versions of the i7 quicker.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop... Vista was preinstalled but did a clean upgrade to windows 7 Ultimate shortly after its release... my computer shuts off automatically if CPU is at 100% for only a minute or so... It is not an over heating problem because when the computer shuts off I feel the outside edges of the computer and the computer is NOT hot... it doesn't shut down, it is off completely and the hard drives don't wind down or anything (or just doesn't sound like it) everything just abruptly stops when the computer shuts off!!! it's really a BIG problem that my computer abruptly shuts off because I do a lot of freelance music and video rendering for people who ask... and most of the times it hits 100% is during those renderings and it is costing me money having to restart or even completely redo work for people due to this issue!!!

A:Computer Shuts off if CPU hits 100% just for a minute

The computer itself does not have to be hot to overheat, just the CPU. I would recommend checking your temperatures using speed fan and seeing if there are any abnormal temperatures. This could be because of a dead fan, cracked or dry thermal paste, or a broken heatsink.

Speedfan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Go to the "Exotic" tab and see if anything looks unusually hot. CPU's will shut off if they reach their T-case, or the maximum heat they can handle.

Hello,

I became infected with these 2 buggers on or about Aug 8th, seems they came in with a file conversion program trial version. They create annoying popups and extra tab and/or page openings quite often, some page links won't function at all, some do. I have not identified any other freeloaders as of this time.

One thing I have noticed is that an older Yahoo mail page no longer bears the security logo I had made. Could it be coincidence or an action by my unwelcomed visitors?

Any assistance you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
digit

Sorry,
I was about to edit the original message and attach my logs when the site shut down for maintenance.

Here are my logs, this is NOT intended as a bump. I have noticed that the original posting now has underlines below the words opening and below yahoo-mail that display ads when the pointer goes across them, just as it selects words on other web pages.

I replaced a failing hard drive a while ago. After it was complete when I open the D: drive (a partition) the floppy drive will try to read and then the D: drive will come up. The floppy drive is A: and works OK. How can I stop this from happening.

This isn't an emergency but I was just doing some basic checks and found FIVE programs dumped into my shared folders that, when googled, produced no hits at all! They all landed on the same day in October.

I just finished a full virus and malware scan (CA Associates) and it just found the usual low-level stuff. Is this alarming? It's never happened before.

Xtreme Systems forums member PcCI2iminal got his grubby paws on an engineering sample of Intel's Core i7 975 XE with D0 stepping and managed to overclock it to 5015.48MHz.

The trtick here is that he managed to do this with conventional cooling, the processor was only cooled by the ThermalRight Ultra 120 RT heatsink with a 102CFM San Ace fan.

The overclocker also managed to run a round of SuperPI 1M with the chip at 4750MHz, the test was finished in 8.672 seconds.

The system used the Biostar TPower X58 motherboard, 6GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3-1866 memory, a 32GB Transcend SSD, Radeon HD 4890 and a Topower Giga-EZ 1000W PSU.

Well, seems this is going to hit really high clocks on Ln2, now just to find a way of running the OC with ''HT'' enabled.....

I just got a new computer with windows XP and it has more programs than I will ever use or know what they are. LOL Anyway, I ran Spybot and it came up with WILDTANGENT as a critical with multiple hits. I have no idea what this is but when I look under
add/remove programs it is listed as an installed program (wildtangent web driver). Can you tell me what this program is used for and if it is a bad thing or is Spybot being fussy?
Thanks tlh99

we have 2 new HP laptops and one won't stay connected to the wireless network.

My dad is a cable guy and we have the laptop working through an ethernet wire. If we unhook the cable sometimes the internet stays connected and sometimes it stops working. We even connected it to our network to share files. It's just the wireless that comes and goes.

A:New laptop - Wireless hits and misses

Could you please give us the specs of the computer equipment involved ?

My computer has hit a brick wall, meaning it is really slow. Its been slow since one of my friends downloaded frostwire. I was not at home and he needed music. After that day everything on my computer takes an extra 5-30 seconds on simple tasks like minimizing the internet. When I am using the internet some web pages wont load, some load as errors, and some got to this bestwebsearch site. Another annoying task is Turning my computer off, that takes like 5-10 min. to do. There is also this manager that pops up saying my Btdna is not responding. Its all been like this since around the 4th of july when I was away from home.

Windows XP

Thanks for the help
Also HJT is not wanting to load up. i tried reinstalling but all the intall comes with is a HJTintaller and it only installs HJT.exe so no Log right now.

Hello and welcome... First I am moving this to the Am I infected forum for scans. Please run these and let me know how it;s doing. Please read and follow all these instructions. Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop.Double-click GooredFix.exe to run it.A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called Goored.txt).Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.46) and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. If Malwarebytes Anti-Malware results in any error messages, check the Help file's list of error codes within its program folder first. If you do not find any information, please refer to Common Issues, Questions, and their Solutions, Frequently Asked Questions. If the error you are receiving is not in the list, please report it here so the research team can investigate. Some types of malware will target Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools to keep them from running properly. Hello CarlMcGee I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.I need to get some reports to get a base to start from so I need you to run these programs first.-Download DDS-Please download DDS from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:Download DDS and save it to your desktopLink1Link2Link3Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.Shortly after two logs will appear:DDS.txtAttach.txtA window will open instructing you save & post the logsSave the logs to a convenient place such as your desktopCopy the contents of both logs & post in your next replyGringo

The 2012 epidemic of ransom malware appears to have turned even nastier with reports that as many as 30 Australian businesses have now asked police for help in a matter of days. Worryingly, this attack used 256-bit encryption, to all intents and purposes impossible to crack if the key has not been exposed during the attack. "A lot of businesses can't afford the interruptions to their trade and will pay straight away," detective superintendant Brian Hay of Queensland?s fraud and corporate crime group told press.Source : http://news.techworld.com/security/3401328/ransom-malware-hits-australia-as-30-businesses-attacked/

Not sure where you did the whois but MSGPH.COM resolves to Hetzner in Germany, they don't have a great reputation, and the nameservers are domainsforbitcoins.com. There are hacks out there to use computers and now phones for mining bitcoin, On Android devices BadLepricon is a recent miner. You might want to post this in Virus and Malware removal.

i was playing a game and a big tunder storm hits and it turned off my comp
then we i turn on the power the monitor is all black, the device is all working.... my bro fixed it once by resetting the bios.now hes not here so i dont know where is the bios is at and dont know how to reset it plz help

my motherboard is a socket A fsb266 m811

A:HELP !!Monitor goes black after a t-storm hits

Woooh!!

Clearing cmos resets the bios, it's a jumper on the
mother board, usually 3 pins.

Example: simply move it from pins 2&3 to pins 1&2
for 10 to 15 seconds. Then returning it to pins 2&3.
This will reset the bios to defaults.

You'll need to look in the manual to find the
location of jumper.(usually close to the battery)

Do you have away to test the monitor on another machine?

Also I recomend a good surge protector.
I'm getting some really big storms here too, so I run
3 of them for two machines. My monitors share one.
G'Luck!

In a bid to accelerate the Firefox development process, Mozilla introduced a new update channel called Aurora last month. Shorter release cycles mean that Mozilla has absolutely no time to bask in the glory of Firefox 4?s success. In fact, Mozilla has begun two-timing (for lack of a better metaphor) Firefox 5 and Firefox 6. The latter is now available in the Aurora update channel, the browser vendor announced Friday.

how much free hard disk space have you got?

run some up to date anti-virus/spam/malware software on your laptop, it just might be something attached to IE (assuming you use that) as you say this happens when you 'browse'. also check what adds on you have enabled and disable any you dont need from the tools menu of IE.

Nero Burning ROM crashed during burning and now my DVD drive is unusable. I cannot open the drive, I cannot shut down the computer because it says "Waiting for DVD Drive D:" and the drive runs like it is still burning despite the program doing the burning is no longer open. It isn't even in any process. What can I do to make the drive stop?

A:Nero Burning ROM crashing caused perpetual burning from DVD Drive

Go to Task Manager...shut the system down from there.

Turn system off....hard shutdown if necessary...disconnect the optical drive.

Sounds to me like it's a hardware problem moreso than a software problem if you cannot manually open the drive.

A:Overlocked to 4.5Ghz but maximum speed only hits 4.41 Ghz

Hi Jago86 ^_^,

Personally, I don't trust the values of Task Manager when it comes to CPU. Earlier when I had Windows 8, my CPU maxed out at 3.0GHz (Due to Turbo Boost) and it was visible in the Task Manager, but when I installed Windows 8.1 , the Task Manager shows my default speed (2.4GHz) and does not show that my processor is being overclocked due to Turbo Boost.

But, when I run CPU-Z , I see that my CPU Frequency goes till 2.996GHz which is very close to 3.0GHz . I would suggest you to check CPU-Z for a more accurate reading.

A:CryptoWall Hits and does NOT decrypt the files after ransom

A repository of all current knowledge regarding CryptoWall & CryptoWall 2.0 is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this tutorial: CryptoWall and DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION Ransomware Information Guide and FAQReading that Guide will help you understand what CryptoWall & CryptoWall 2.0 does and provide information for how to deal with it and possibly decrypt/recover your files. At this time there is no fix tool for CryptoWall.CryptoWall 2.0 uses its own TOR gateways...see Updated CryptoWall 2.0 ransomware released that makes it harder to recover files. There is also a lengthy ongoing discussion in this topic: CryptoWall - new variant of CryptoDefense.Rather than have everyone start individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any questions, comments or requests for assistance in that topic discussion.ThanksThe BC Staff
