Preferred Solution: save data in safe mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried a repair install which would leave all files and folders in tact ? This shows the exact route but you must be careful to follow the exact route and not to format or delete the pertition .

Ok... so my mom brings me her computer... almost like I have any clue what I'm doing. NOT. She would like a few files saved before I wipe it clean n start over. If I go into the regular startup... it slows to the point of nothingness, then norton comes on to say that a trojan was found, and can't seem to do anything without it locking up.

So... started it up in safe mode. Thought, silly me, that I could just save her files that way, then erase all the crap, reload everything n give it back to her. But no... CD drives dont work in safe mode... DUH. And since some of these files are pictures, floppy isn't gonna work. What is the easiest way to save some files before the whole dang thing freaks out on me?

I just got a new computer not too long ago after my motherboard was about to die. I was in the middle of playing a game and my computer screen says "Going into stand by" and then it says "Entering save mode". And when it's at that mode, I can't do anything. I have to restart my computer and it gets really frustrating because I'm usually in the middle of things and I can't save what I wrote or save a game because it won't let me get back to the screen.

Does anyone have any idea why my computer is doing this? I asked my cousin's boyfriend because he's really good w/ computers, but he said he'd have to check it out, and I hardly ever see him. Is there anything I can do on my own?

Hello. I run Vista HP on my Toshiba Satellite laptop and I urgently need to back up my data ( approx 90Gb) while in safe mode. Is it possible to do that and in what way exactly ? Looking forward to your suggestions.

A:help ! back up data in safe mode !

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Could you tell us where you want to backup your data???
Do you want to backup data on external HDD or you have two partitions [for example C: and D:]???

In Safe Mode backing up data is exactly the same as when you copy normally.
Just Copy --- Paste and that is it.
I would suggest to backup small amounts of data, for example 9 x 10GB or similar size or if you use software like Total Commander, you can backup all of data in one action.

Keep us posted.

Hi everyone Well I had a terrible night Safe How fix my w/out losing - unrecognized loop do I mode partition data? - last night I was helping my father I will make a very long story short in explaining that he definitely has a virus He mistakenly Safe mode loop - unrecognized partition - How do I fix w/out losing my data? opened an email that purported to be a greeting card or something he probably ran a file and then he soon had his browser hijacked Many virus checks later fixes etc and still no luck fixing the system - might have been a virus called virtumonde maybe that and other stuff Who knows Anyways things happen I figured I would need to restore a drive image I had made of his c drive for just such an occasion BTW the drive has a few partitions on it and I have all his data on D I asked him to reboot and lo and behold the comptuer froze with a black screen I had him try safe mode and none of the options boot from last known good configuration boot in safe mode boot normally etc worked - it kept trying and then coming back to that screen offering the same choices I think that sometimes he saw the windows xp logo but only briefly So I had him put in the Windows XP cd to try a repair Sure enough it showed that the C drive was not formatted and asked him if he wanted to do so It did recognize the other partitions and their formatting NTFS but it said that the C drive had an unknown format Therefore I suspect a boot sector issue I would like to avoid reformatting c as it will be considerable work to reinstall everything on that drive More significantly I have some data - mainly his desktop - on the c partition that I would like to recover before cleaning house I am wondering if I should try running the recovery console but I am concerned because I have read that fixmbr can mess with the other partitions and his data on D is the most important thing here I also wonder if I should try to use a program I have had luck with once before called MBRtool Back when my father-in-law messed up his mbr it was able to repair it with a bootable cd I made on a different computer Yes I am everyone s tech guru but I have very limited skill - I do my best If neither of these options are palatable and there are no other good ones I will just have to take the offending drive out of his machine offload all the data from his D drive and see what I can do to get things running on his machine knowing that most of his data is safe on my drive Any advice Sorry for the long-winded story Thanks Dave nbsp

A:Can my data be saved? I couldn't get into normal windows nor safe mode

Win7 can't be expected to start on different hardware. You can attempt to adjust it to start by booting Paragon Adaptive Restore CD freeware to P2P Adjust the OS to start on new hardware.

You'll also want to make sure none of your repair attempts changed the Partition Marked Active from the 100mb System Reserved (preferred if you have it) or C partition, as can sometimes happen if another HD is plugged in during repairs or reinstall - so unplug all other HD's first. Once you confirm the Active partition if Win7 won't start outright then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times.

If these fail you can still rescue your data to the external by slaving the Win7 HD to another OS HD, or by booting the Win7 installer or System Repair Disk to Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or by using Paragon Rescue Kit Free Edition 11.0 Free CD.

Data should always be backed up externally against HD failure. You would know your HD has failed because it isnt' detected in BIOS setup by any of the above repair/rescue CD's.

im willing to start over but i dont know how to do that from here

I'm new here and in hopes of getting this resolved. I just installed the new Norton Systemworks 2005 and rebooted after installation. When the boot screen got up to the blue screen with the Windows XP logo before displaying the login names where you put in your password, it just stops. I restarted a few times and waiting a few more times thinking it may need to 'finish' installing. But each time gave the same results. Finally, I went in with 'Safe Mode' and got in with no problems. Tried again in normal mode after looking around for any obvious problems (none found)... back to square one. Tried again in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and it failed like normal mode so I suspected a networking problem??? The last thing I tried which made me mad is that I tried to uninstall Norton Systemworks in 'Safe Mode' and that failed!! Anyone in these forums know the cure? :dead:

A:Unable to get to login screen, works in Safe Mode but in Safe Mode w/ Networking

Just a thought

Safe-Mode
Start \ Run \ msconfig \ diagnostic startup
disable any services attached to your most recent install and restart
should get warning next boot about using msconfig, its ok
One key service that needs to be available is the installer service
Try the uninstall, if doesn't complete
Try the uninstall string in the registry only if you know what you are doing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Under it you will see a list of installed programs. Some don?t show up as words but you can figure out what they are by looking at their values. What you are looking for is the uninstall string. Double click that key as if you were going to modify its value. Do a CTRL + C to copy and then exit the registry editor.

Go to START \ RUN and paste the uninstall sting and hit enter. This should launch the uninstall.

Just a thought though as I am not infront of a test system at the moment. You should research this a little further so you have a clear understanding of what you can and can't do with msconfig.

or simpler yet

Safe-Mode

Start \ Programs \ Access. \ System Tools \ System Restore

Select restore point prior to install of whats giving you the problem.

Again, Good Luck

PS If you try to install it again, turn of antivirus and other open programs etc..

i have windows home xp edtion on parkard bell.in safe mode it is fine, but when on normal bootup mode it will hang up after 2mins aprox(then restart saying crit error, check hardware etc and being to dump files kernel),on a blue screen.

i tried a different graphics card, but no joy.so i replaced the hdd drive and put a fresh copy of windows xp pro edtion on,but it loads all the files(i have not pressed f6)i just let it run its course on the disc, then it hangs up on the blue screen again with the words(crit error 0x0000007f)check hardware etc and if this is the first time you have seen it try starting windows again.

Thankyou for all your time.

A:Solved: xp safe in safe mode fine...mormal mode blue screen

Start in Safe Mode and look in C:\Windows\Minidump for crash log files with a dmp extension, like Mini071008-01.dmp. Zip 4-5 of the latest ones and post here as a ZIP or RAR attachment. The log file contains information useful to determine what caused the error, most likely hardware.

Hello,

Recently my dad's computer had a corrupted hive and boot.ini. Via this website, I was instructed to run a chkdsk /r while in the recovery console. Everytime I used his OS disk to get into the recovery console, it prompted me for a password and I didn't know it (nor could I leave it blank). I decided to use my OS disk from my computer and I could fix the problem. Now, though, everytime I startup the computer, it prompts me to start windows normally, in safe mode, in safe mode with networking... To give further information...on that same screen there is an option for Windows XP and Windows XP Home Edition. Don't know if that has something to do with it. They both work though when I press enter on either one. Could anyone help me stop the computer from prompting me??? Thank you for any help.

You can spend a lot of time trying to fix the boot problem and clean the virus from the computer, or you can nuke it and reinstall Windows. I wouldn't bother trying to fix it, personally - I'd back up what I could and then I'd install Windows again.

After attempting to start my Laptop in Safe Mode, it loaded drivers normally only to crash a few seconds later. A prompt message appears but is impossible to read because Windows immediately reboots upon showing the prompt.

Safe Mode with Networking loads normally.

Any ideas or advice?

The computer is an Acer 4743G running Windows 7 Home Basic x64.

A:No virus scan in safe mode or safe mode with netwrkg

Hi and Welcome to BleepingComputer,

Not all anitvirus programs work in safe mode, I don't know about Symantec but I do know my ZoneAlarm does not. I do not see the reason to run it in safe mode. If you are really wanting to run stuff in safe mode, run SuperAntiSpyware in it and just run your antivirus program in regular windows.

Btw, it sounds like you had something on there that has backdoor capabilities and if that is the case, then unless you reformat the computer, it will never be truly safe again.

Windows just downloaded an update to my ASUS x V laptop and now I can't get it to boot up I've tried booting in normal mode last successful mode safe mode safe mode with command prompt normal, boot safe c-prompt mode with mode, or Can't safe and nothing works If trying to boot in safe mode it gets stuck on crcdisk sys When trying to boot in any mode it eventually hits the blue screen with a STOP error of x E I have also gotten x E and x I am positive it's the latest Can't boot normal, safe mode, or safe mode with c-prompt Windows Update that caused this because my computer at work which also runs on Vista and is also an ASUS had an update yesterday When I came into work this morning and tried to start up it was unable to and did a start up repair That Can't boot normal, safe mode, or safe mode with c-prompt didn't work but it gave me a system restore option which did work Unfortunately my ASUS laptop does not prompt me to do a Can't boot normal, safe mode, or safe mode with c-prompt repair nor a system restore The recovery disk I have that came with the laptop only allows me to do a restore which erases everything on my HD I'm only somewhat computer savvy better at working with them than fixing them so please try to put things in layman's terms Thank you

Hi everyone, my software(data acquisition software) works well and saves data in the folder with full control permissions, but when I try to save my data in the restricted folder(only delete permission is denied) it displays an error access denied.
Is there any workaround to disable the delete option and keeping the normal functioning of software intact, as my intention is to allow the users to generate the data and restricting them from deleting the generated data
Thanks in advance

I am a beginner with tablets and networking. This should be an easy answer.

I have a new tablet. TCL 9020A Android ver 5.0. This is thru At&t network LTE cellular data. My question is, can I use wifi to save on data usage? I have this tablet and Galaxy S5 that both have mobile hotspots available.

Do hotspots use more data? Is there an app available to reduce data usage while on the internet?
Is there any way to get cheaper wifi than paying for tons of data use?

I downloaded the TSG sysinfo utility but my at&t Trek HD would not let me open it. Please advise.

I love this site. I have learned a lot. Thank you.

A:new tablet on data plan want to use free wifi save data

Yes, if you use your own WiFi network or free WiFi hotspots, you won't be using your cellular data. You can connect to those in your wireless network settings.

Hi guys My problem is somewhat complex so please bear with me I had malware and adware on my and mode won't safe I msconfig.exe boot. in set safe mode laptop which was really annoying and I tried really hard to get rid of it So I decided I was going to do a system restore The system restore kept saying quot System restore is initializing quot I tried it three times and it didn't work I looked around on the internet and someone suggested to do the system restore while in safe mode This is where I made my mistake I set safe mode in msconfig exe not knowing you could go into safe mode while booting msconfig forces the computer to boot into safe mode everytime but I set safe mode in msconfig.exe and safe mode won't boot. my safe mode won't boot I get a b ack screen with a cursor I have noticed that the cursor gets reset to the middle of the screen every five seconds or so I also see the words safe mode flash in all four corners sometimes I have tried re-installing windows from a bootable usb but whenever I change the boot priority it doesn't seem to save my settings Please tell me what my options are Will replacing my hard drive do the trick Thank you in advance

A:I set safe mode in msconfig.exe and safe mode won't boot.

Can you restart and get into your log in screen ? If you can, enter safe mode by pressing the power button icon (lower right corner) then Shift + restart. That gets you to Advanced Settings where Safe Mode and, if that fails, Reset PC to orig settings. If you can't, try a hard reset by removing battery and all external usb attachments and then pressing and holding power button until it shuts down. Repeat a few more times to drain memory, then see if powering up will get you to log on screen.

A system restore in safe mode will just restore the malware. You need to boot into safe mode and run your anti-virus or malware program and have them quarantine and then remove them while in safe mode. Use Malwarebytes free or Adwcleaner or Hitman to clean the system. If that does the trick, manually create a system restore point that you know is clean after the system is to your satisfaction.

There is no malicious software.I have gone through Malwarebytes,TDSSKiller,Kaspersky, etc.Nothing was found.
It doesn't entirely freeze.I can move the cursor which usually is a blue circle.Sometimes more things like highlight icons w/ the cursor or the clock keeps going.
Sometimes when I press ctrl+alt+del and open task manager, the programs that didn't open when I clicked on them will open up.Most times pressing ctrl+alt+del does nothing though.
It works fine in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking.I have disabled all start ups and every service except Microsoft ones and restarted in Normal mode.Still the same problem.
I used checkdisk and it said nothing is wrong.
There are random times where it works fine.No specific time of day.It just happens. Most times it is this way though.

A:Laptop only works in safe mode.Hangs w/ blue circle in Normal mode.

Did you disable the startup items and services in Safe Mode, and then restart in normal mode?

Essentially what you are trying to do is a Clean Boot, this has to be performed in normal mode.

***This is a diagnotic tool for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.  This will not repair your computer, but it may point to where the problem lies so that a repair can be made.***

Warning:  Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivius disabled until the process is ended.  For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Step 1

(1)  Click on the Start orb , then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.

(2)  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

Step 2

(1)  Click on the General tab.

(2)  Click the Selective startup option.

(3)  Remove the check mark in the Load startup items  check box.

Step 3

(1)  Click on the Services tab.

(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

(3)  Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list, then click on Apply, then OK.  Click on Restart in the window that opens.

Caution:  By disabling the Services your antivirus will not be active, for this reason I suggest that this process not be run while online.

If the problem does not reoccur after the reboot continue with the process of elemination to find the Service which is causing this in Option A.  If the problem does reoccur after the reboot go to Option B.

Option A

**The following is a process of elimination to find the Service or Startup item that is causing your problem**.

*  If the problem does not reoccur after the restart go back to Services and place check marks in half of the boxes and restart the computer.

*  If the problem still does not continue return to Services and remove the check marks that were added, then place check marks in the remaining half of the boxes and restart the computer.

If the problem resumes after a restart in one of these halves, you will procede with this process in the half where the problem occurs.  If this does not continue in either half you should repeat this process in Sartup.

*  In the half of the Services that the problem is found, remove one check mark at a time and restart the computer to see if that  is the Service causing the problem.  Continue to do this with the Services untill the service causing this problem is  found.

Option B

Search Startup itmesIf the problem is not found in Services, remove all of the check marks, click on the Startup tab and repeat the search process there.

Caution:  If this is a laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.

If this problem is found post the Service or Startup item that is causing it.

Hi,

I got win 7 home premium 64 bit on an i3 laptop. My system worked fine until today morning.

The problem is this;
When I boot the system in normal mode, I get to the part where I need to enter my password to login. Once i do that, all I get is a black screen with the mouse pointer that moves about normally. I've waited for the normal desktop environment to appear (ie icons and taskbar) but this doesn't happen (btw, my desktop background color is always black).
The system boots perfectly in safe mode.

Yesterday was the first time in over a year I used utorrent. I used to get the BSOD when I used to use it. I couldn't rectify the problem and hence had stopped using it. It worked fine yesterday though.

Any idea whats happening and how I could fix the problem?

A:Windows doesn't login properly in normal mode but fine in safe mode

I've tried running SFC /SCANNOW a couple of times but I keep getting a message that there may be corrupted files. I also created the sfcdetails.txt file.
Going to try the system restore option now

Hello the computer I am concerned with is running Windows with IE Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware I am currently in Safe Mode with Networking without issue The owner of the computer says that something happened earlier today while he was online that sounds like some false antivirus popup but he s unsure Here are the symptoms in normal mode Every application from moving through them to opening and closing them runs exceptionally slow - one to three minutes to open at least a minute to open internet pages I noticed that when in IE as the pages are loading the IE page disappears and reappears I am not very familiar with Windows so I don t know if it is related The computer seems to be getting slower as the day goes on CPU usage is very high So far I have disabled many startup items that were unnecessary I ran CCleaner and cleaned up MBAM was run in both normal and safe mode full scans and found nothing This is also posted in Viruses and Malware but I m unsure where it should live If you can help thanks I have to work on the Win computer from LogMeIn and may have to get around in safe mode there

A:Win7 runs extremely slow in normal mode, but nicely in safe mode

I suggest you wait for a response from the malware specialists before looking elsewhere.

So my laptop only starts up in safe mode and when I try to access it through normal startup, a blue screen appears for a short amount of time and then attempts to startup again going on and on in a never ending cycle.

However, I got it running on safe mode and ran Malwaebytes Anti-Malware on safe mode (with networking). However, it didn't pick up anything wrong. What can I do to fix this???

Please do not post your Hijack this logs here. Due to Forum Rules we cannot assist in malware removal here. Have you tried a different browser (Chrome, Firefox etc)? When you say IE only works in Safe Mode with Networking, Do you mean you boot the computer normally and use IE (safe mode) or are you booting the computer into Safe Mode with Networking? In other words you can't boot normally?
If you feel you are infected, please click on the Virus/Trojan link in my signature and post there for more help.

Hello,

OS : WIndows XP SP3

My computer (actually on loan from my mother in law!) is taking ages to start and when it does, it is very slow to respond and even freezes. Eventually an Avast alert pops up and tells me it detected a rootkit called "Catchme". I didn't try to delete it, I don't know if I should have or even if Avast was right.
The PC was already slow when I first got it. I ran Malwarebytes before and it found a trojan.agent that was apparently deleted. I also ran JRT that found bad things too (tell me if you need the log).
When I run in Safe mode, the PC seems OK, more responsive.

Anyone to help me?

Thank you.

A:PC slow in normal mode, OK in safe mode, Catchme rootkit detected by Avast?

Hi,

I turned PC on this morning, it was still very slow to start, but the Avast message about the rootkit didn't come up this time! PC was still slow to respond though.
I decided to run AdwCleaner (saved on to USB key from my laptop and copied then on to the PC) just to see and it found 9 "bad" registry keys. I cleaned them and restarted the PC as prompted. PC seems a bit faster to repond now. I also ran Malwarebytes (quick scan) which didn't find anything.
Still think something is not right, can somebody help me check for rootkit or anything else please? Thank you

Please help!  Over the past week or two my computer has been running slower and slower.  Then lost the ability to download anything unless in safe mode.  Now when opening computer in normal mode get nothing but black screen.  Think I got something when my antivirus software lapsed and I wasn't protected for a bit?

Tried running Malewarebytes, Avast, SuperAntiSpyware, Microsoft Defender, sf scan, CCleaner and nothing has helped.  Everything comes back fine.

I'm not very computer savy but from what I have been reading you all can help!  Much appreciated and many thanks for any assistance.

I need some help please as I do not know where to start.

I installed a Windows Update a few days ago and then got a BSOD the next time I turned my PC on. So I did a system recovery and this seemed to work.

Now, it's happened again without me doing a Windows Update and I cannot get into safe mode.

I am really sorry but I cannot even follow the BSOD instructions to run a diagnostic tool because I literally cannot get into anything to run the diagnostics.

Can anyone offer me advice?

Please run Minitoolbox and include the List Installed Programs. Check HP desktop if it comes with a diagnostic test within windows or BIOS utility for memory sticks and hard drive and try running the complete test. Please post back if there are no such features as they would be provided. Try also doing some house cleaning for some dust and bunnies to make sure thermal events is not contributing to the problem.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Hello all
First time poster with problem after peforming sys restore on win7 pro 64bit.
Was troubleshooting a problem w/taskbar not staying hidden, tried to restore back 24hrs to when a java update occured. Restore seemed to proceed normally, but upon restart, it boots normally to just before the login screen would appear, then the screen goes black and all that is visible is the cursor , which I can still move.
But that's as far as it gets. Trying to boot in safe mode, or repair mode ends exact same way - can't boot in to try anything
Any ideas??

A:Black screen at boot with safe mode, system restore, or repair mode

no one has any suggestions? I also triedtoboot to my win7 dvd to see if I could attempt to repair but again, it only gets thru the windows bootscreen then goes black with only the mouse cursor showing as before.

all of a sudden Windows 7 became extremely slow in normal mode. This doesn't happen in safe mode.

The laptop now also makes 3 beeps on startup, but the beeps disappear when Windows login page comes up. The only thing I did is updating Java and the beeps started.

I'm sending in attachment DDS, OTL and ComboFix logs.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Everytime i open my pc up in normal mode, it seems to restart itself within a few seconds to a few minutes, It tends to happen when i open up a program like Chrome. I',m currently on safe mode with networking and have done registry cleaners, updated video card drivers and looked for viruses, yet nothing has seemed wrong, I've also done a system restore to when my pc was working fine, but it still was happening, I saw on another post here that i should post my msinfo32 so here you go, Thanks.

A:PC doesn't boot in normal mode even after OS reinstallation, though, boots in safe mode

Yes, the hard drive may have become faulty and unreliable and therfore will soon fail completely. For confirmation, test it with the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS.
The links are here: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

In Safe Mode, no third-party drivers are loaded. In Normal Mode, all those extra drivers being accessed on an already flakey drive is causing it to crash.

Hello WWilliam50 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Have you run a full scan with your installed anti-virus of choice? Even if you AV comes back "no malware found" it wouldn't hurt to run some additional free on-demand scanners. (No AV product is 100% effective 100% of the time.) Some of the free software recommended by Forum members include: Malwarebytes; SuperAntispyware; and ESET Online Scanner.

   Warning
Make sure you don't install unwanted/unneeded crapware. Some sites are now bundling extra "stuff" with the main product. Uncheck any boxes for things you don't want.
Once you've completed all scans, see if you can rebuild your icon cache.

Icon Cache - Rebuild

If still no joy see if you have any damaged or corrupt system files by running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.)

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Win 7 Normal Mode won't start, will go past Starting up Screen and just hit a Black screen and will hit a Crash Dump (blue error screen)..... I can boot into safe mode fine and I have fun CHKSDK and after a reboot it fixed a few problems but I hit the same Crash Dump Screen. I have also made sure my whole pc is all clean and connected, no corroding parts etc etc, made sure my pci-e slot is default etc etc, no luck at all...

Its a new installation and worked fine last night and early this morning after separate boots. But as soon as I booted this afternoon it wouldn't load and would hit the blue error crash dump screen....

So any suggestions?

Just last night My main HDD died also which is why I had to use my secondary HDD as my main....

=\

Hey,

I am having a problem with a laptop, I am getting a blue screen when starting in normal mode, but if I start in safe mode it starts up and logs in fine.

I am not being told what is causing a problem, just to uninstall any new programs/hardware, but nothing has been installed at all.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks for any help :)

A:Starting up fine in safe mode but blue screen with normal mode

Go here Windows Vista/7 BOSD Posting instructions follow all instructions to the letter, using all tools illustrated. Then proceed to the next steps by posting your logs. Keep your posts and logs (logs mini dumps etc...) in BOSD, App crashes, and hangs.

Be patient they get a lot of inquires. Someone will be along to help you.

My speedtest.net performance is 30 Mbps download, and between 0.3 and 2.0 Mbps upload. If I start in safe mode with netorking, I get download and upload speeds of 25-30, my contracted speeds. Obviously, something loading in the full mode interferes with upload speed. I have tried restarting in safe mode with all of the items checked in the services and programs tabs in msconfig, and still get excellent up and download speeds. How can I figure out what is interfering with my upload speed in normal mode, but not in safe mode?

A:Poor upload speed in normal mode, fine in safe mode

Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

How to use msconfig in Windows 7

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.

A:BSOD when trying to boot in normal mode, safe mode works fine

You may need to run SFC up to 3 times for it to have a chance to repair all files.

If it won't then you can consider a Repair Install.

However be aware that factory preinstalled Win7 is one of the worst possible installs of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilties that intefere with better versions built into Win7. So I would strongly consider doing the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you decide to try to repair you can also capture the BSOD file and post it up for one of our BSOD analysts as shown here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 Forums

I'm not sure what causes my BSOD. The errors range from BAD_POOL_HEADER to ntfs.sys to drivers-something.

I am currently running Safe Mode with Networking and things seem stable.

I ran Anti-malware (nothing found), VIPRErescuescanner (nothing), fakereanfix (didn't help), ComboFix (probably made things worse).

Are my drivers up to date? No, probably not, but at this point, I'm scared to change anything else.
Is my windows 7 up to date? No updates installed since Jan 2012, I'm too scared to update anything lest I cause more BSODs.

I am not able to connect to any webpages in normal mode, even after restarting i still have the same problem [However it works in safe mode with networking]. The network connections show that it is connected and the signal strength is excellent. I then have to keep restarting the laptop like 3 to 4 times and it works. Its kind of frustrating to keep doing this all the time and besides i am scared by restarting the laptop so many time can harm it.

System details:
Laptop - Lenovo Thinkpad E430
Antivirus - AVG 2013

Please help me.

A:Unable to access webpages in Normal Mode, however works in Safe Mode

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

Lenovo will also come with a trial ware program - cant remember which
I would also remove AVG 2013 - using the removal tool - see below

have a read here and post back as much info as possible
Pre-posting Requirements - for both Wired and Wireless Connectivity Issues

Normally are you using wireless - and in safe mode with networking - are you still talking wireless

can you connect to the router with a cable and if so does that work in normal mode ?

Lets see an ipconfig /all in both normal and safemode with networking - make sure you also tell us which is which when you post

AVG Removal Tools
Download tools and utilities | AVG UK
Download tools and utilities | AVG Worldwide

> removal tool, that can be used with AVG 2013 Support tools and utilities 2013 | AVG Worldwide - > on Installation Tab > use the AvgRemover

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the infomation above those entries

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

For Windows 8
to open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop. Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.

This should work for all windows version, XP, Vista, W7
Hold the Windows key and press R

then type CMD

then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

Not sure what I have stumbled upon here. Was trying to download some music from SugarSync that I had from another PC, realized I did not have a music player installed and tried to download VLC and that's when things went bad.

I had run my Anti-Virus (Avast ) and it found nothing,
I just now opened it (in safe mode) to obtain the official name/version and found it to display a large red banner declaring I am unprotected and the Avast service turned off.
None of those controls on that panel work

Am assuming some infection did this as I did not turn it off!
When I clicked Scan it displays "Unable to start scan. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper"

This is an Asus G73JW Laptop
Windows 7 SP1
I use
Avast Internet Security
Spybot S&D
CCleaner

Any Idea as to what I have run into here?

Thanks,

A:Fine in Safe mode, but in normal mode, icons and Startmenu don't work

Have you performed a System Restore recently?

Download your version of Avast, but don't install it yet.

With the computer offline use the Avast uninstall utility to uninstall your current installation.

Once you have uninstalled the old version, install the version you downloaded.

Running processes can cause this like Toolbars if you have toolbars I'd say remove them completely as they will conflict with I.E.'s toolbar as with other programs like defrag, ( to remove a program make sure it's not running then click Start/ Control Panel / Add-Remove Programs then restart the pc Always restart the pc after installing , removing , or updateing a program ). Then disconnect from the internet and right click on any icons next to the clock and click exit or end to stop them till your done doing the defrag. Then run cleanup disk and try to defrag. If no joy please post a HiJackThis log so we can see if there's other issues http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/622404-please-read-here-first-before.html

A:Mouse and keypad frozen in normal mode, but work in safe mode

Hi Horan. Welcome to TSF!

Since you are able to boot into SAFE MODE with COMMAND PROMPT, do that and then at the prompt type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotation marks) and let it run. After it completes that, make a note of any messages and then reboot your system and see if that helps.

Also, what happens when you just use the touchpad and don't plug in a mouse? Any difference or does it still lock up?

Good day!

Mike

Hey guys I've checked through some of the tuts and what-not on this forum and still can't find a way to get me out of trouble..
i turned my computer on yesterday (23rd September) and there was an automatic update. Ever since the update my computer has been extremely slow (will take several minutes to open firefox -or anything for that matter). I booted safe mode and it's running fine. I opened up msconfig and did a clean boot but the problem was still there.
It's a fairly new build and I was stupid and forgot to get a virus protection i can't install it in safe mode either..

Can anyone help?

Hi,
I have a Sony VGN-FW139E with window vista. When my computer tried to boot into Windows, it just hangs on window vista loading screen.
If I selected Safe mode or Safe mode with Networking, I got this message.

Loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\crdisk.sys
Please wait?
Then it did not get any further. Is there any solution to fix this problem? Thx..

I have been having problems opening any files or using Internet when booting up in normal Mode, system is slow and eventually hangs. I have run all of the virus SW, and even some driver repair programs. Have tried recovering to earlier date, still problems. I don't want to do a total recovery and re-apply W7. Any suggestions on how to detect whether I have another driver corrupt, etc. ?

A:SYstem hangs when opening apps in Normal Mode, OK in Safe Mode

Boot into Safe Mode. This will write a log file Ntbtlog.txt in the Windows folder. If any drivers failed to load they will be listed there. You can post the file if you like.

Hello,

From last 2 days I am facing constant crash in windows 7 normal mode (Lenovo notebook G580). but when I do boot the pc in safe mode with networking, crash never occurs. I am posting this thread in safe mode only from the same laptop. I have dmp file generated using verifier. and the same with provided exe here. I will try to upload both. I think some driver is causing the crash but can't find which one. please help to resolve this as I hope must not be the hard disk issue.

The thread title gives the exact impression. And it was a good step to enable verifier.

Now disable verifier.

Then ....
Update the SplitCam product: SplitCam free webcam software for video streaming and adding cool webcam effects

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus (MSC) and the touchpad driver SynTPEnh.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Then run the laptop normally. Let us see any further BSOD crash dump after doing it.

Unfortunately i cannot find any command line search results for MBAM.
I can also not find any portable version of MBAM that isn't warez.

Is there nothing that you can do in normal mode?
Keep trying, and if you can get into normal mode and run a quick scan then please give us logs so we can analyze them.

Not sure exactly what happened but couple days ago the laptop started to hang up or freeze when I tried to run any application, such as a browser, control panel, and even task manager. If I need to turn it off I have to hold the power button which I know is not good but otherwise I would not be able to reboot. If I go into safe mode I can use the computer somewhat sluggish but I can at least open up programs and even get on the internet. I cannot do system restore as this had been turned off. I had a conflicting driver issue that I installed, but that has not helped, I dont know what else to do. Please help this is my only computer.

Windows only opens in safe mode, tried reloading drivers, last known good configuration, etc. When in normal mode black screen only, when acessing task manager shows all processes stopped and will not allow me to start them.

A:Black screen when start in normal mode, works in safe mode only.

Hello CliffordJ. Microsoft Security Essentials is installed, correct? Many MSE users running Vista (but not all) suffered black screen after login following installation of Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - 4.9.218.0 (KB3140527), released about a month ago. In fact there is already a thread here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/606422/windows-vista-x64-bksod-after-login-or-no-access-in-normal-mode-suspect-mse/. The posters there disabled MSE 4.9 in Safe Mode by unticking a brand-new setting in the UI (Administrator > Turn on this app). Another method of escaping this situation would be to restore your system to a point before the update was installed, then hide the update in Windows Update. That would allow you to resume using MSE 4.8 if you wish.

I am extremely curious why this happens to many but not all MSE users running Vista. If more advanced forum members ask you for further information, I hope you will cooperate. Above all, I wonder if any other security software with real-time protection is installed (or perhaps improperly uninstalled)? Of course there is a possibility that your issue is something else...

I have tried to run IE7 in normal mode and I always get a "The address is not valid" window. I have a good internet connection and Firefox works flawlessly. I do not have connection problems. If I ran IE7 in Safe Mode with Networking, I can bring up webpages with no problems. I thought that upgrading to IE8 would cure the problem but I am still getting the exact same problem. I have tried checking many things and have tried many suggestions that I have found through web searches but nothing works. Please help!

I have been getting BSOD errors whenever booting into regular mode. Safe mode is fine (I have tweaked the registry so I have sound in safe mode) My system specs are in my profile, but used Winaudit for full specs. The winaudit report in formatted text is too big for an attachment. I have 2 attachments to this post, including zipped up minidumps.
Could my registry tweak for sound have something to do with this?
Perfmon /report was run, but it says:

An error occured while attempting to generate the report.

The system cannot find the path specified.

You have several issues. It might be easier to simply clean install.

You choice, here are the most obvious problems

Avg

Kaspersky

Pctools

Symantec

One or all of the above are causing an issue with tcpip.sys which need to be fixed.
If you decide you want to remove instead of clean install we have the removal tools inks.

Hi,

My laptop does not starts on normal mode it freezes on Booting. But it starts normal on Safe mode. I tried installing new windows 7 also but it freezes on the starting windows screen after installation file copy. I even tried Ubuntu 10.04 , it freezes on installation screen.

I need a solution for this problem

My Notebook details :

Model: Acer extensa 5230E (But in BIOS I can see 5630 - I have no idea about this because I bought this laptop on ebay)
OS : Windows Vista basic (32 bit German)

A:Acer extensa 5230e doesnot boots on normal mode but world on safe mode

Downloading UBCD which is in my signature.Burn the ISO Image to a blank CD using Imgburn (How to burn a ISO Image using Imgburn) burn at lowest speed. With the newly burned cd boot with the cd go to HDD>Diagnostics>The make and model of your hard drive, Seagate, Maxtor, Drive Fitness which is Hitachi, Or Western Digital. Perform a short and long test. Could also be called "Standard" and "Extended" test or also "Comprehensive" test. The Seagate hard drive test will work on most drives.

Seagate tools will work with some hard drives. If it doesn't with your hard drive try another.

I just did a clean re-install of Vista x on a new hard drive old normal mode install: Vista fast safe in Slow mode; x64 internet connection new in drive crashed Here's the problem Using my ISP Roadrunner Carolinas speed test site I get around to kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode If I boot to Safe Mode Vista x64 new install: Slow internet connection in normal mode; fast in safe mode I get around to kbps which is what it should be this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista Running the same speed test with Firefox Vista x64 new install: Slow internet connection in normal mode; fast in safe mode I get around to kbps in normal mode but if I try to download a file it transfers at only the to kbsp rate if I'm lucky Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far Installed all updates including SP Using Windows Firewall no anti-virus Updated network drivers directly from NVidia Chipset is nForce i Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem no router I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out This really the second clean install I've done in hrs After the first one I upgraded and added a lot of software and add-ons before I figured out the connection problem so I decided the easiest fix would be to re-format and start over checking each step to see what caused the slow-down Unfortunately once I did the second clean install I tested right away and I had the connection problem from the get-go Since then any action I took loading upgrades drivers software etc I have run the connection test after every step My skills with computers are a bit better than average but this is way beyond me Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction

A:Vista x64 new install: Slow internet connection in normal mode; fast in safe mode

run msconfig and uncheck startups that you are POSITIVE are safe to do so. See if your speed picks up. Then allow one startup at a time.

I am using Windows XP home edition with SP3. It was working normally. I used to get a popup "Windows cannot find "syssetup.exe"....When i opened yesterday morning I found it taking longer and never go to the desktop after giving the username and password. It stops at Welcome screen with a msg "Loading your personal settings" and no more response. I followed below steps to trouble shoot the issue.

1.I have tried opening in both "safemode" and "safemode with networking", found its working fine. I ran "msconfig" in safemode and unchecked some unwanted applications(nothing related to windows process) and tried again opening in normal mode.... Not worked

2. My internet works normally in safemode. Found some virus by running antivirus in safemode and cleared all the viruses.

It would be really appreciable if any one could solve my issue..

Cheers!

I would like to figure out why the video is so jerky running in normal mode.
Is there a way to find out?

Also the sound system does not start in safe mode.

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Don't forget to do step three after troubleshooting. Is it running fine in clean startup?

But one of those other people certainly could have, right?

You might look through Add/Remove programs for installs with dates in that range.

Also, look in the STARTUP group.

I booted up Poser in Safe Mode and it works. Yet, everytime I try to boot it (or any other OpenGL program) in Normal Mode I get a system freeze.

What are the differences between Safe Mode and Normal Mode? Could it be that Safe Mode uses less exe files?

My System:
E8400 @ 3.0ghz
Sony DVD-RW
Western Digital 500gb HDD
HIS Radeon HD3870x2
Patriot 4gb @ 800mhx 4-4-4-12
Gigabyte DS3L
Rosewill 600w
Raidmax Smilodon
Windows Vista x64

I have Catalyst 8.8 drivers. Anything newer than that results in a system crash.
