Q: hard disk short DST: failed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So this really irritates me because I just spent hundreds of dollars sending my laptop to HP last year because the hard drive completely failed. I have a 1TB hybrid hard drive and 22Gb solid state used for caching.  When I booted up my computer Intel Rapid Storage Technology said there was an issue.  When I opened it, it says that the status of: SATA disk (932 GB)(System) Accelerated, is Failed.  My SATA_Array_0001 22GB is fine though.  So I ran a System Quick Test, everything passed except Hard Drive Short DST Check: FAILEDFAILURE ID: Q4MP7Q-6RA82U-MFGJWK-60W303 This is weird because other than the computer telling me there is something wrong every time I restart it, It seems to run just fine.  Im just worried because I don't want it to randomly die on me one day.

Hi there @nmulji,  Thank you for joining in on the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great place to ask questions, find solutions and get help from others in the community! I read your post on the HP Support Forums and understand that the Hard Drive in your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15t-j100 Select Edition CTO Notebook PC failed the Short DST Check.  SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology System) uses a technology known as predictive failure analysis to tell you when a hard drive failure is imminent. Have you tried to Restore the BIOS? If not, please try this step first. Then, just to be on the safe side, back up your data that way it does not get lost. However, there might be certain conditions that cause a hard drive failure message to display when a problem does not exist (a false positive). To fix false positive hard drive errors, please try updating the hard drive firmware. You can check whether an update is available by going to the  Get software and drivers page. You will need to put in your Model Number and then click the links that pertain to the computer configuration and see if a hard drive update is available.  You could also try to do a  Disk Defragment to consolidate files and move them to another section of the drive where errors are less likely to occur. Did this reply resolve your issue or answer your question? If yes, then please share the good news! Let others know this reply was helpful by clicking the Accept as Solution button. You can also show your appreciation by clicking the Thumbs Up. If you require further assistance, I would be more than happy to continue to help you. Please re-post with the results of the troubleshooting. Thanks!

Hi, The 24 character error code does confirm a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your g7 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation. Regards, DP-K

Hi nbsp As stated I have an HP envy laptop that I purchased year ago Just days ago my warranty has ended At the same point in time I was also trying to roll back to a previous windows install as there was a pesky app that was installed when I lend the laptop to my friend When I got it back it works just fine but it had that malware in it that I want to remove nbsp So I fired up system restore and go on restoring It finished doing so until nbsp it restarts When it restarts I was stuck in the loading screen with the HP logo for hours to which I decide to fire up the restore through the recovery media All works well until I got stuck in the installation I got stuck at When I searched on the internet why the reason might be because the wi-fi adapter is still on I am able to open it SM... Long Short DST check but Disk DST and passed Hard failed, up and take it off for a moment But because I need to go to work I decided against it I turned the laptop off and set off nbsp When I got back I can't even let it proceed to the installation saying that there's an issue with teh windows install and it needs to reboot Did that same thing several times and nothing happened nbsp Then I decided to go to BIOS and do the hard disk check It passed the SMART test but failed the Short DST as well as Long DST It produced the error code nbsp MFUC T- RG K-CD WMG- DK nbsp Is it possible for me to resolve the issue by my own through another reinstall Or is the HDD really is ruined If this is the case I'm probably just going to go ahead and replace it with an SSD

Whenever the Hard Disk Short DST test fails that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue This issue could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc.. HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive Please try the below shown troubleshooting steps once:Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the AC/Power AdapterStep 02. Press and hold the Power button for more than 30 SecondsStep 03. Plug in the AC/Power Adapter (leave the Battery out for now)Step 04. Press the Power button and check if the Unit works normal If the above mentioned steps does not help, then you can try reseating the Hard Drive on your Notebook If the issue persists again please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media) Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files. Kyle, welcome to the forum. This error message is telling you that your hard drive has failed.  Your only option is to replace it.  You can test it further using the SMART test from the BIOS.  When you replace it you should buy one the same size or larger.  If you didn't backup your personal data, you will not be able to retreive it.  You should begin doing this immediately after you replace the drive. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Bought this Pavilion 17t in December of 2014.  Upgraded to Windows 10 about 6 months ago.  Just last week the laptop got stuck in an automatic repair loop. I tried a hard reboot and that didn't work.  I ran the diagnostics test and got a Hard Drive Short DST check Failed.  Failure ID Q4JF9G-7G189F-MFPV7A-60SU03  Product ID J7B57AV.   Does this mean my hard drive is failing after such a short time?  Is there any solution other than an expensive repair?

A:HP Pavilion 17t Hard Drive Short DST failed

Yes unfortunately it means the hard drive must be replaced. If you are willing to do it yourself, hard drives are probably not as expensive as you fear. We would need your precise model number to provide the correct manual and instructions and likely a video. Since you had Windows 10 installed and activated you can use media downloaded for free direct from Microsoft.

Hi,            The failure ID refers to Hard disk drive failure. If the unit is under warranty, then you can call the HP Support to get the Hard disk drive replaced if not you have to get the Hard disk drive replaced yourself and then reinstall the operating system using recovery disk.

Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. As your notebook shipped with Windows 10, it is probably still under warranty, so contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. Regards, DP-K

Hi I been using my laptop as usual today and all of a sudden a notification popped up saying hard drive failure imminent. I restarted the laptop, pressed f2 and ran a system test. Everything in the test passes expect from the Hard drive short dst check, which failed.Failure ID: 0SG2J1-7K289U-XD7WLJ-60VW03I'm not sure why this has occurred. I regular run virus scans and defrag the hard drive. The hard drive is 1TB and around 100GB is used. The laptop is only 2 years old and ran out of warranty around April/May (typical). I don't have any recovery disc or back ups, is the laptop now unusable? I try to boot up but the laptop either freezes on login or on desktop. I have all my uni work, including my dissertation report on there, please help.ThanksDale

Hello HP support forumThe other night my pc randomly stopped working, the system diag saidHard drive short DST check: failedFailure ID: 9U2MVW-6JJ890-MFPWW1-60R203Product ID: D1C03UA#ABLAfter a quick search it would appear that I might need a new hard drive, is that the case? How do I know what type of hard drive to buy?Side note, the night it died the girlfriend had turned on a humidifier which had sat in the room with the computer. The computer was turned off the whole time but I didn't realize it was in the room till the next day. Could there be a chance this would be more just a hard drive? The diag won't run past hard drive DST check.

Hi, Sadly to say, the HDD on your machine failed. The following link shows its specs:          http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03663774 You can replace larger (capatity) and faster HDD. Any standard 2.5" SATA HDD on the market today can do the job. You need Recovery media to rebuild your machine. Did you create one ? Otherwise, please try:              http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143 Regards.

Your hard drive must be replaced. Post back if you want specific help with that. On  your model it is manageable for the end user to do, although not real easy. Are you under warranty? Manual see p. 46.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Stop using the laptop. Replace the hard drive with a new one. Get a SATA to usb adapter to connect the old drive (which you will remove) to another computer to try to salvage data. There is a good chance data is still recoverable this way.

Hi @Himanshu9001, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion Notebook and getting the start up error message failure ID. This error is DST Short Test Failure code. What that means is your Hard drive could be failing. I recommend  the first thing you should do is back-up all your personal files etc as soon as you can. Wondering if maybe reseating the Hard Drive would help. After you reseat it I would run the Hardware Diagnostics again. Please get back to me how this goes. If this post helps you to resolve the issue you can click the Thumbs up icon to show gratitude! Thanks.

Hello there! My computer recently started rebooting (BSOD) nonstop after turning it on, and it won't even go into Safe Mode. After running a system quick check, I received a message stating Hard Drive Short DST: Failed. With this message, I assume I need to replace my hard drive. I'm not sure where the best place to look for a new laptop hard drive is and how to find one on the HP store. Recovering potentially lost data is also a concern. What's the best way to go about replacing the drive and attempting to recover what was on it?

A:HP envy dv6 Hard Drive Short DST: Failed

You can use any manufacturer's hard drive. HP uses Toshiba, Seagate, etc in their laptops-they do not make their own. Western Digital is a popular replacement. Best Buy, Staples even Wal Mart carries hard drives. Just be sure to get a 2.5 " hard drive for laptops not a 3.5" desktop hard drive.Example:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8516564&CatId=1277 As to recovering files you may be able to do that by installing the old hard drive into a usb enclosure then plug it into usb port of a working machine. If the hard drive has any life left in it you should be able to browse it and copy files over to hard drive of host machne.Example:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3195233&CatId=2781

First off I have a HP 2000 Notebook PC with Windows 8 and I used Internet Explorer 10.

Processor Name : AMD E-300APU with Radeon ™ HD Graphics.

A few days ago, my computer started getting slower & slower, not responding, freezing up and even going to a blue screen before coming back to the page I was at.

So I put it in Safe Mode with Networking and ran Malwarebytes full scan - nothing.

Then I hit F2 at reboot and ran some of the tests on there - Battery was Okay, memory was okay, but this one failed :

Hard Drive Short DST Check - Software Error

Failure ID : RSG080-6P579C-MFGJXG-60VS03
Product ID : D1E80UA#ABA

Does this mean I need to update with windows update, that there isn't enough memory or does it mean my Hard Drive needs to be replaced? This laptop is only 1-1 1/2 years old....

A:Hard Drive Short DST Check Failed - Software Error?!

Your hard drive is probably failing. I would get your important data off it as soon as possible. After your important data is off download Seatools for Windows and do a diagnostic to confirm the hard drive failure.

Had this laptop for about 6 years, had a few issues in the past, but nothing major like this. After, I ran a system dianostic, the result shown that the Hard drive short DST failed. Not totally sure how to do a recovery, I do have the Recovery Discs, so I searched up how to run the discs; turned on the system- press f11-  window loading files- window starting- then it just stuck on a window blue screen with nothing but the cursor. Can I even use the Recovery Discs? I want to replace the old HDD with a new SSD, but I'm not sure if I have to install a new OS or can I recover the old hard drive OS and transfer to the SSD?

A:Hard Drive failure (Hard Drive Short DST Check: Failed)

DST:Fail means  the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

A:Disk error "Short DST failed"

Backup immediately - you may/may not get further warnings from the system.

Short DST is usually a "spot check" of the disk. So I'd suspect that a non-essential sector is going bad on you.

Run the long test to see if the drive is dying. Do you want to trust the data to a disk that's in the process of failing?

I have a Seagate SATA Barracuda -Gigabyte Model ST AS hard disk here that has failed It spins but it is not detected as present by either Windows or the BIOS When I first got it it would actually bring up the Windows XP logo as though it would start Windows Then it would go to a blank black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner It wouldn t get past that After making several attempts it finally was no longer detected as present at all To be clear it isn t detected in another known-good machine so the drive is toast I am hoping what has failed is the logic board on What, this exactly, it is has hard failed that disk? as opposed to any other part If it is the logic board that has failed recovering the data is as easy as finding a hard disk of the exact model number and swapping What, exactly, is it that has failed on this hard disk? the logic board Here s the only clue I have When I turn on the computer and after a few seconds I hear a quiet but discernable tick tick tick tick tick that goes on for a minute then stops After a while it starts the tick-tick again and then quits again after a while It sounds like the stylus is moving forth and back and tapping the spindle or something Here s the question What are the chances it is something besides the logic board nbsp

I have bought a new 40G HD from a local Computer super market and installed Win2K and Office 2K and have been using for sometime.

Then it crashed. I used a Maxtor utility to do a Low Level format on it. Then reinstalled Win2K and Office 2K but it failed after I completed the installation.

I tried doing the LLF and the installation the second time. It failed. I tried doing the LLF and the installation the third time. And it failed again.

Is there a way I can rescue this hard disk?

I aint concerned about the data. Just the HD.

Many Thanks.

I think my hard disk might have failed I m not sure This is what happened One day my computer started disk checking after booting After disk checking I noticed some files my Failed? Has Hard Disk missing and used System Restore everything was back to normal after that for about a day My computer started to slow later and then it crashed After that it could not boot Has my Hard Disk Failed? It always restarted when trying to boot Then the next day disk checking was performed when I booted it and it worked for a while until it crashed again This happened about times Later I either got a stop error when I selected disable automatic restart on system failure but i was able to use safe mode A short while later even safe mode didn t work Either the screen remained blank whenever I pressed F or I got the error quot Failed to load operating system quot or the error quot Disk Error Occured quot I decided to install a fresh copy of xp I formatted it and reinstalled After that I still got the message quot Failed to load Operating System quot so I installed xp on my D hard drive and evrything worked fine Right now I have xp and some other files on my D and on my C WIndow and a few other files I put on it When I boot my computer it gives me the option of selecting from copies of quot Micorosft WIndows XP quot One of them is the D one Right now when I tried to boot I got quot Failed to Load Operating System quot error again When I unplugged my computer and replugged it i was prompted for disk checking skipped and it worked fine again So I m wondering if this is because my hard disk failed or for some other reason If my hard disk did fail then do I have to remove it from my computer or do I just have to leave it empty and not use it nbsp

A:Has my Hard Disk Failed?

Yes it could be failing, what make is the drive, it is best to get the manufacturers diagnostic utilities and run them as they can mask some of the bad sectors sometimes. Also you could try writing zero's to the drive using Darik's Boot and Nuke from HERE.

When I start my pc it stops at the start in the black ones. (the one with the bios at the start) Hardisk failed appears when I press f1,f8 and others then it is askin for a system disk. Boot from disk press any key etc. on top of it appears secondary ide 80 connector not installed. (something like that I forgot what exactly appeared but I think you’ve got it). I’ve checked the connections already inside but they are all right. What is the cause of it. Thanks.

A:Help!!! Hard disk failed???? Why..

Who is the manufacturer of your disk ?

You may be able to download some hard disk checking utilities from the Manufacturers site.
These are usually in the form of a boot up floppy, that will load some tools to check the drive.

Hi all,
As you probably know I am new :-) and like I said in the title think my hard disk has failed... I was putting Linux over windows 8.1 and then it froze after wiping the disk and now I get this... Image is taking forever so it say No Bootable Device Found

A:I think my hard disk has failed....

You can download the DOS based Seatools from Seagate and run them against the hard drive.  These diagnostics are excellent and will give you good information about the condition of that drive.

Good luck.

Sounds like a failing hard disk, but the overheating thing is worrisome.

The TOSHIBA MK6465GSX is a 2.5" form factor SATA drive, 9.5 mm thick. You should be able to replace it with any drive with the same dimensions. (You probably can use a thinner drive, but a spacer may be needed to mount it.) That includes SSDs that are intended as laptop HD replacements.

I see that there are a couple of YouTube videos showing how to replace the HD for your model laptop.

After using the system Recovery DVD error msg. response "hard disk not exist" what does that mean.

A:hard disk test failed

Please tell us a little more about your computer. It sounds like either the hard drive has failed, or the hard drive has come loose from the motherboard. It is also possible that it is a problem with the motherboard itself.I am assuming you are running the Hard Drive Test from BIOS. Have you tried placing the hard drive in a different SATA port on the motherboard? It could be that just the SATA it is currently connected to has failed. You could also place the hard drive in another computer and seeing if it gets recognized then, indicating it was a problem with the motherboard (in which case that computer is pretty much screwed. Contact your manufacturer to see if it's under warranty and if they'll replace it).If neither of these work then most likely the hard drive is shot. You'll pretty much have to either get the hard drive replaced by the manufacturer or buy a new one. One last thing, have you tried running system recovery off of the Vista Installation Discs?

A:No hard disk detected or has failed

Howdy @Fraser11?, Welcome to the HP Support Forums.   I gather that since replacing the power supply in your Pavilion 500-076ea that your hard disk is no longer detected.   I am confident that I will be able to help you work towards a solution, and I ask only that you pay it forward. When we resolve the issue, I'd like for you to kindly mark the applicable post as Accept as Solution so that others experiencing the same or similar issue can find what worked for you. Please use the Replacing the Power Supply in HP and Compaq Desktop PCs document as a checklist to ensure that nothing was missed when you replaced the power supply.  In my experience, most of the time when this error occurs after replacing the power supply there is a cable that is not connected securely.  Please let me know the results.

A:hard disk ide dps test failed and not booting.

Hi dionrodrigues,
Is your PC new and have added any new components to it recently (RAM in particular)? The error code you are getting usually appears when there is new RAM installed. If you could upload the BSOD it would be helpful. Another thing to try would be reseating your RAM.
As for your hard drive, I would suggest connecting it with different cables and in a different port. Afterwards, you could consider running a brand specific diagnostic tool on the disk to check its health. There are third party software solutions to be found online, however the once from the manufacturer provide the most accurate results as they are developed for such drive and know the firmware best. You can upload a screenshot of the SMART status after running an extended test. It would be best if can test the drive on a different PC with different SATA cables.
If you manage to access the drive I strongly recommend doing a backup prior to any testing just to be on the safe side.
If the drive has bad sectors it is recommended to change it, or if you use it – not to trust it with important information. Having regular backups is always a good idea
Keep me posted,
Frost_WD

My wife has an HP Pavillion that came with Windows7 home Premium pre-installed. Last week, the hard drive failed (it starts to spin up, clicks several times and stops turning). I have a new WD hard drive coming, but neither HP nor Microsoft will give me an installation disk. HP says I have to get it from Microsoft and Microsoft says that I have to get it from HP Is there any way to obtain one without having to purchase operating system?

A:Failed hard drive, no installation disk

Presumably you have a product key on a sticker somewhere. Sometimes under the battery.

If so, you only need to find installation media.

This is what you need:

Hi Tux

you got the recovery disk? - how come you got 8 cd's instead of one? Pardon me for being stoopid.

Also, did you find out why your first disk canned?

What is your current disk?

After watching for hrs and hrs as the disks install themselves, are you satisfied that the formatting completed successfully?

My computer was working fine, it turned off fine. Later when I turned it back on it wouldn't go past the black windows logo screen with the loading bar. Then every time I turned it on I got the improper shut down screen. None of the safe mode or configuration options would run. I tried all the boot options and none would work. Tried using start up disks and couldn't get repair or anything to work. Got a message that windows couldn't find mass storage device and HDD test had read failure. Everything pointed to a bad drive. For the heck of it I tried windows reinstall and it worked, even tho I lost my info. So I don't understand why a working drive would suddenly become inoperable when it's really not. What would do this? Don't want it to happen again

My 2 TB WD MyPassport Ultra has stopped working. In disk management, it shows unallocated and when i try to initialize it, it says an I/O error has occured. This hard disk was bought only 20 days ago from amazon.

I tried inserting it on different computers, through different cables etc.

I read a lot of threads on this forum on similar(same) problems. I performed WD Lifeguard test, and my hard disk failed both quick test and extended test. What should I do?

The suspected cause is that it was being used on a computer when the system showed blue screen of death. It has not been working since then.

A:Hard Disk not recognised; Unallocated; Lifeguard Test failed

If hope that you had a back up of your stuff or there was nothing important on that drive. You have to contact Amazon and get a replacement. The BSOD did not cause the problem, the problem caused the BSOD. There is a surprisingly large number of HDs that are corrupt when purchased. You should not have a problem trying to exchange it. I do wish you good luck and sorry about your situation.

Ok, my wife's hard drive is toast. Can't read at all. I even removed it, put it in an external enclosure with USB connection and tried to read it on my computer, nada. Tried Spinrite on it. Nada. So, it's gone, and I can't recover anything.

I'm buying a new HD. The OEM version of Windows 7 was pre-installed by HP on the laptop. So I have no disks. I do have the 3 Recovery Disks my wife created when we bought the machine. But when I was trying to revive the harddrive one of the recovery screens said Windows 7 had to be already installed on the hard drive for that to work.

So, is there anyway for me to get Windows 7 on the new HD short of buying a new copy? The laptop does have a sticker on it with a product key.

Steve

A:Diagnostics error 2000:0142 (Hard Disk failed)

Hi demon2192,
Error code 2000:0142 means that the hard drive has gone bad and requires a replacement. As you are able to boot into windows, I recommend you to backup the laptop's data on an external hard drive. I am adding you as a friend. Please accept my request and reply through a private message with the system 'Service Tag' and 'Account Holder's' name. I will check the warranty status of the laptop and provide you the best support options available. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

Hello.

I have an external hard drive. I did the check for errors thing from properties>tools. I checked the options "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". After some time I thought the scan froze up so I hit cancel and not the disk is unusable. It says "X:\ is not accessible. Access is denied." Same message if I try the error checking option again.

Please help.

A:External hard drive not working after failed disk scan

I think first you need to check for possible drive failure before trying anything else, since if does turn out to be drive failure that's end of story -- new drive required. Download the Diagnostic Software (installable Windows version) from the drive manufacturer's website. The links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

I have a HP Probook 4530swith Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I turn on the PC the windows does'nt start and give a option of starting windows manually, which does'nt work, and repair windows. Repairing windows with windows 7 CD did not help.

I then decided to reinstall windows 7, but while installing, on the select disk page, it shows a error saying no drives found.

I then performed a Hard Disk Test which resulted in failure saying:
Failure ID : UC7WX0-5NB67S-XD6V5G-60TF03

Please help me Whether what should I do

A:Can't find drives on installing windows 7 & Hard Disk Test Failed

It sounds like the hard-drive has died and you need a new one.

I have installed windows 7 64 bit OS in my HP G3 430 . Now it is giving blue dump error very frequently.I have run Memory and Hard Disk diagnostics ,Memory passed but In Hard Disk  showing Short DST: FAILEDFAILURE ID : 94nkta-0008A3-XD7WMG-60SQ03PRODUCT ID: L9S60PA#ACJ  What does this mean?

A:Short DST : Failed

Whenever the Hard Disk Short DST test fails that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue This issue could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc.. HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby    Please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media) Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files.
