Aspire 5733-6838 updates?

Q: Aspire 5733-6838 updates?

So I was looking around the Acer site because I can't seem to find the ACC application on my machine (Aspire 5733-6838) and found that there are no App/BIOS/Driver etc., etc. updates since 2013. Are there seriously none for it. I didn't figuer on "no longer supported" after only 3 years. I just want to make sure everything is as current as it can be. Any suggestions besides SlimDriver?

Preferred Solution: Aspire 5733-6838 updates?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi everyone.I have an ACER laptop Aspire 5733 with a 3Gb Ram that I m trying to increase to 8Gb. I bought 2 modules of 4gb each (http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search/?partid=kvr13s9s8/4).from what I can see on the ACER specs (http://panam.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/2011/Acer/Aspire/Aspire5733/Aspire5733sp2.shtml#sup_5) the max RAM supported is 8Gb.. unfortunately each time I try to insert the 2 new modules, W7 Home premium (64bit) wont load, and keep on getting an error message.. is there something I m missing there?Oli

Hi, I don't know if this is the right location for this question but I did not see my laptop in the list or understand the choices in the select location colum.  I started the recovery and I put in all the disks and I am now at the point where all the disks are out of the laptop and the software and updates are being installed. I got to the screen that says its installing sysprep-factory mode. The progress bar is full and its at 36 of 36 and after where it says installing sysprep-factory mode.... it has these pulsating dots that looks like its still loading info. but its been at this point for about ten hours now,( left it over night) is it frozen or is it posible it takes this long. Had big problems. Got software restore. Can't start from disc. Changed boot order, nothing. f8, f10, f12,got my no where. Won't start in safe mode. I don't have the options that the instructions with the discs say I should have. Here are my options:

1. IDE1: Pioneer DVD-RW DVRTD10RS
2. IDE0: WDC WD5000BPVT=22HX2T1
3. Network Boot: LEGACY PCI Device

1. Goes to eRecovery and just sticks there with a blue spinning wheel
2. Goes to f8 menu with no option for recovery or repair. When trying to start normally it goes to a blue screen with an error message that is gone to fast to read. Restarts
3. Goes to black screen with some unreadable stuff except for the word "failure". Restarts

I let eRecovery go for about 10 hours and it never booted up. Not sure what to do and tech support is a joke. Please help.

Hello all this is my first post on these forums, and hope you guys can help.

My cousins laptop had some issues with the os, so I installed windows 7 ultimate 64-Bit, but the issue is when I plug it in it will not charge, the battery LED says it is but the battery icon says it isn't.
Or sometimes it says its plugged in (The icon) for only a while then it says its unplugged, once I re plug it it will back to say its charging and then so on.
It actually says its charging and have done the power button hold, the Microsoft ACAPI thing in the Device Manager and nothing works. I have no clue what this is and if there is something that could help.
Thanks for the help and If you need more details feel free to ask.

Hi guys Just looking for some help regarding my Acer aspire its only around a year old now and haven't had a problem like this with previous laptops desktops The problem started a few days start acer after aspire 5733 system to fails restore. ago acer aspire 5733 fails to start after system restore. when id forgotton to put the charger in while I was still using it and it eventually shut itself down After putting the charger in and switching it back on all seemed normall until around seconds after turning it on when the screen flashed blue with a lot of writing on which I could not work out then it went straight to the screen where you can either start normally or start acer aspire 5733 fails to start after system restore. using start up repair At acer aspire 5733 fails to start after system restore. first I pressed start normally which resulted in the blue flashing screen and a restart which took me back to the start normally or start up repair screen Then I pressed start using startup repair which lasted around hours before displaying a recent hardware change might be the problem which isn't the case as ive not replaced any hardware whatsoever I clicked send info to Microsoft for more info but im not sure if that makes a difference or not Anyway I was then presented with a box which had option for start up repair system restore Acer recovery management etc I couldn't perform a system restore as it said I dont have a restore point which I know I definitely created but for whatever reason was not shown I then performed a memory scan from the same screen which restarted the computer and displayed a blue screen and a grey progress bar it said in yellow writing no problems have yet been found after completion system will restart and show results of the scan next time it starts however after it restarted it did not show any results but went straight to the start normally or with start up repair screen after the blue flashing screen I pressed start with start up repair to get back to the screen that showed all the options and it did that in around a minute again telling me a recent hardware change might be the cause I then tried to do everything again several times to no effect so I decided to go into Acer recovery management where I had two options restore to factory settings or restore and retain user files I chose to restore and retain user files as I would like to keep my personal files I couldn't back them up on disk as there was no option to do that and I dont have original back up disks to restore from anyway the restore completed and restarted the machine with no problem and started to run through the initial setup the first screen displaying setup starting services for a good minutes were the screen then goes completely black and all the fans stop and goes completely quiet all would suggest it was switched off if it wasn't for the power light indicating it was still on after a few minutes the fans start spinning again and the screen stays completely black and then returns to the previous screen it was on before and then prestents me with a dialogue box that says windows could not complete the installation To install windows on this computer restart the installation Which I do and the whole process just repeats itself with the dialogue box and restarting like a cycle and is where im up to at this point I will gladly answer any more questions in more detail as I know this a brief explaination Thanks for taking the time to read this and any answers or help regarding this will be much appreciated thanks again guys

I lost the shredder 64 file. I followed the instructions to restore the computer and after it finished it said it would reboot and to wait for the reboot. I did not reboot. There is a message on the screed that says "Setup is starting services" it never goes any farther. I tried the alt F10 and it did not work either. I bought this computer as a reconditioned unit and it worked perfectly until I tried to get the shredder 64 back. I tried putting a rescue disk in the D drive but it doesn't recognize it.

You might be better off populating both slots with a 2x2GB or 2x4GB matched-set arrangements. You also might have better compatibility with crucial ram offerings specific to your particular Acer model. Jack E/NJ

May I steel need to update its drivers that are avaible at Acer`s website for Aspire T-3 715? Actually, I just dont understand that, Is Windows automatically update its driver or may I need to do that manual? Hi

I've got a Acer 5733 laptop and it's had nothing but problems.

Whilst under warranty, i returned it to acer for a faulty hard drive. They replaced it.

Once the warranty had expired, it happened again so i replaced the hard drive myself and reinstalled windows. It then happened again, so i assumed that it had been a faulty hard drive that i'd used, so i bought another and installed windows. This one has now also failed.

I'm pretty sure it's not worth fixing again but just wondering if anyone could shed any light on what's causing these issues all the time and whether there's a fix for it? It's been driving me mad!

Or should i just sell it for parts and call it quits?

Thanks for your help

I am trying to ensure all drivers are up-to-date via ACER Support, and when I enter SN or SNID for the above unit Support incorrectly identifies it as a Windows 8 OS upgraded from Windows 7.  Purchased April 2012 the unit came with Windows 7 and received the free Windows 10 upgrade August 2015. I'm guessing I should correct this in the drop-down and select the actual original OS, Windows 7. When I do so the available drivers look more logical, for example identifying a driver from the correct LAN vendor, RALINK. Although there is a later driver update for an ACER brand LAN.Any thoughts, folks, on which way to go here?

I really hope someone can help me--I have no recovery media no recovery partition thanks to gateway and no idea how it got from what seemed like a normal update to this I'll start from the beginning Tonight I went to restart my computer and surprisingly it needed to update though it had installed some a few days ago I thought little of it and waited I sat for about half an hour and upon the second time it restarted it said quot we couldn't Acer error! Acer Aspire V3-551 on that screen for another half hour It then restarted And went to the screen again I waited mins before holding the power button down to shut it off Turned it back on and the screen came up again So I tried to use f to access the boot menu and found it password protected somehow I'd never seen this before I looked up how to remove the password and removed the bios battery and replaced it This fixed that issue So now able to get to boot options I decided I'd enable the f recovery menu and try to use startup repair or system restore Startup repair failed system restore said I needed a system image And recovery said the drive Windows is on is locked I know the previous hd had a Windows recovery partition but ever since gateway replaced it it does not So turning it off and on once more it now gives a Help! Failed updates to boot error! Acer Aspire V3-551 boot error x f tells me to insert recovery media and shuts off and restarts in a loop This has gone horribly wrong There's been no power surge the he should be physically fine I removed all power sources and the hd before resetting the bios battery and was careful in replacing everything and I don't see what else could have been done as far as turning off my laptop when it was stuck on reverting the changes from the failed update I can't afford to pay for recovery media or worse yet having it repaired right now as I have important files on my hard drive that I'd like to recover by not just replacing the hard drive and I need this laptop for my work I hope this post is understandable since I'm writing from a phone and I'm half out of my mind with worry--I've been up very late trying to fix this Can anyone help me

Sandpe, Welcome to the windows 7 forums, I agree that there are a lot of great helpers here.

You might want to go to Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 4741G where they
can tell you the latest drivers for your system.

Of course you might want to make sure that your Anti-Virus is up to date.

A:Windows 7 updates same for updates every time it checks for updates

See if you can System Restore to before Net Framework 4 was installed and then Hide it when it is again offered in Updates.

But be aware that some programs will need it and may not prompt you of this leaving you to guess why they are not installing or performing correctly. For this reason I always install it.

So you might want to reinstall it using its standalone installer since it may not have uninstalled correctly anyway.

I find it odd that when I do a Windows Update in Windows 7, the Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) updates are also found. But if I do a Windows Update in XP Mode, the MSE updates are not found. I don't suppose this is controllable? I'd like the Windows Update to find MSE updates.

A:MSE updates flagged in Win 7 updates but not XP Mode updates

In XP you have to go into the "Add/Remove" programs and check off the "Show updates" box at the top to reveal the MS updates installed.

stuck in a loop, keeps trying to start but wont. safe mode didnt load/work, neither did last known configuration.

any ideas how to get this to boot/work again?

update: trying repair from the install dvd. see if that works.

A:wont boot after installing updates. updates not configured correctly reverting change

Startup repair from the dvd did not work.

I did use this registry defrag program. wonder if that did something to the registry?

Free Registry Defrag

I generally avoid registry cleaning programs because I don't trust them. thought id try it once to see what happened. not sure if this caused the startup issue or something with the windows updates I installed caused it. I did do several restore points. would that help me fix the issue?

I keep getting Error message: Install Failure after Windows updates are downloaded and Windows attempts to install those updates.

The download is successfull, however, after Windows 7 attempts to install those updates I get this message:

Configuring Windows Update. Do Not Turn off computer.

After Windows attempts the installations of those updates, I get the following message: Failure configuring Service Pack. Reverting Changes. Error_install_failure (0x80070643).

I contacted Microsoft on the problem via emails....they went through a number of trouble shooting techniques....but after all of their recommendations, all they could tell me was to reinstall Windows 7.

I really would not like to do that. Do you have any idea what the problem is?

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

A:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silverlight today) so the secret might be to install updates in smaller batches instead of trying to install all dozen or so available updates in a single update session.

This is an inconvenient delay not anything serious Running Windows updates updates Microsoft Security blocking Essentials other windows if it makes a difference Issue Microsoft Security Essentials auto-updates block Microsoft Updates until MSE is finished Description I have Microsoft Update or Windows Update whichever it s known as in set to automatically check for updates but not download or install Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates without my approval I do this so I can review what s being updated I m a little wary Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates of Microsoft putting an anti-piracy app in as a quot critical quot update in the last year Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates or two Anyways when I boot up the computer it checks for updates and alerts me of them However Microsoft Security Essentials also auto-checks for updates upon boot and if it has an update it will automatically being downloading and installing it in the background Which is all well and good except whenever that s happening it causes MU to quot fail quot updates until it s done updating Thus I have to remember to wait until the MSE update is done then run the MU update Question MSE definition updates are included under quot Optional quot updates in MU is there a way to make MSE stop updating independent of MU so I can queue all the updates together I feel like this would be the easiest way to prevent this annoyance I don t see an option and I d rather put up with this annoyance if the only solution is to put all updates back into Microsoft s hands completely nbsp

A:Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates

My understanding of MSE is it will check several times during the to make it has the latest updates. Most GOOD VA programs will do this as there are several releases daily for AV definitions. This is the only way you and your machine will be aware of these releases.

When some of these attacks happen, a definition is released, but as the infection is refined, the the definition must also be refined and/or improved. I use F-Prot on my machines, but I install MSE on the kids and grand kids machines. I have seen as many as 12 releases in one day from F-Prot, this is what is call" being on top of things".

So I would not want to rely on ME being the one to check several times daily on all of my machines to see if a new release has been made.

I've got Office 2003 Student Edition (all installed, minus Outlook). I haven't done any updates to it. I did not install the Microsoft GDI+ Detection tool. And I only visit Windows Update (not Microsoft Update) and install the critical updates under custom install.

I'm wondering:

1. Are the updates for MS Office that are critical security things included when you do Windows Update? (For example, there are a number of things listed here towards the bottom: http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=2232 -- would those have been included in the last batch of critical Windows updates?

2. Do you need the GDI+ thing to do Office Updates?

3. When you go to the Office Updates site, it wants you to install and run some kind of Active X thing. Is this necessary? And can it cause any problems?

4. Can doing critical Office updates (separate from whatever, if anything, that comes with Windows Update) cause any problems or conflicts with other things on your computer?

Thanks for the help!Click to expand...

1. No. You either do Windows update and Office update, or you do Microsoft update, which does both at once.

2. I think so, but I am not positive. If you need it, it will install it, or, if you decline, you may not get updates. One way to find out, try it.

3. I don't think it will do the updates without it. Again, try it. It never caused any problems for me having it.

4. I can't guarantee that, nor can anyone else. Sometimes these "hotfixes" cause problems. Wait at least a few days after release to update was my motto. If there were any problems, you may hear about them, giving you the option to wait for that "fix" and, it gives MS time to be notified and correct it. Hopefully.

For what it's worth, I always kept my XP updated, waiting a few days after the release of course.
Hope this helps.

I don't have that detection tool either. At least some of the office updates are available through the windows update feature. You can also navigate to the Office updates site from the windows update site. There are no problems with installing the office updates separately. In fact, I generally download only 1 or 2 updates at a time as I am on dial-up.

Hi whitefoote,

Welcome to Seven forums.

Kindly check this link which should be helpful in resolving this issue:

Also, you can perform a factory install if you have taken a backup using dell software:

Suddenly Windows 7 has stopped installing Windows Updates. It downloads, then creates restore point, starts installation, but then comes back with the error code 800F0900. This happens with all the updates when carried out individually, critical or optional. I first went through the process of clearing all the Start-up Programs in the Services section of msconfig. As that did not solve it I then stopped all but MS services, and that did not solve it.  I tried the Microsoft .NET Setup Verification Tool. This said there were problems that it could not fix and sent a report to Microsoft.  Following an earlier thread on this site, I installed and used the Windows Repair program from Tweeking.com. This failed to solve the problem. Does any one have any other possible advice to help solve this problem ?

I have never posted on a forum before so apologies if I am doing this wrong. The problem started when I tried to plug in my (new) iphone to my Dell pc. The device was not detected so I tried to update my itunes software - update failed and I received a Windows 7 error. After searching through multiple forums and trying to download windows utility cleaner, etc - nothing has helped. Also, if I try to run the 'Check for Updates" link on my computer - if NEVER stops searching for updates and there for I cant update anything. Not sure where to start

A:Windows Check for updates keeps running-all installation/updates fail

Let's start with the easy stuff

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Windows updates have been slow for a lot of Windows 7 users ever since Windows 10 was released.
Try rebooting the PC, then install the latest Windows update client. Then reboot the PC again and check for updates. Be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes.

Hi bro,I had the same problem 3 days ago and I have solved the problem so, I think, I can help you, first of all I need to know if you have any antivirus tool intalled on your computer,if it so,[download CLEANER sofware from filehippo.com-it's important]uninstall them, for this action use safe mode by pressing F8 button, when you boot with safe mod you will not be able to uninstall your antivirus, because you have loaded only the drivers that needs safe mod, that's why you must delete your antivirus manually, for best result go to control panel-->folder options-->mark "show hidden files, folders, archives" apply and ok then go to user folder and open AppData\Local\"antivirus folder" and delete it,after this open AppData\Roaming\"antivirus folder" and delete it as well,at the end,you have to delete the main folder of your antivirus, that is installed on C or another drive.for example:C:\Program Files\ESET.After that open cleaner go to REGISTRY and scan for issues and if you get[I am sure you will get errors] any problem, fix them[delete them, you don't need to save registry settings before deleting] after cleaning registry, you have to run cleaner,so, go to software main window and press RUN CLEANER button[it's the last step] and restart your computer with normal mode. Now you can install updates and configure your windows safely.I hope this will help you

W=2000XP.IE6,, About 2 months ago, I { && many, many others } had problems with MS automatic updates.Seems a couple of the updates did more damage than anything else. I had to go into Safe Mode to restore my computer to an earlier date. All is running very well, now, with automatic updates turned off. I do get the pop-up at the bottom telling me this alert, but I ignore. ONLY thing is, I am NOT updating anything right now !! I am unsure of what I need & what I don't need, or what may damage my computer. I am fairly computer experienced & don't know the best way to custom install a few updates, here & there, as are best for my system. What is the BEST way for me to keep the system safe , as far as updates go ??

Hello there, In India at 1st place, if you are running windows 10 on a mobile, you are hands off the single soul, because service centres here, say, it isn't yet available yet for normal consumers, That aside, I am about to update my mobile on 10586.smth latest build l, After completing should I await the upcoming anniversary Jargon, to turn the game on even more, Is it any different to current set of improvements, that said I did those on my cellular dat on 4G, so that poses a gr8 question of cost, in mind.

A:Do the regular updates from settings and Microsoft's anniversary updates differ? If Yes, Why?

I would only upgrade to the production build of 10586 and then wait for the upgrade to the Anniversary Edition. It should follow shortly over the next few weeks. Windows 10 Mobile has many improvements, so I would say it is worth it.
While the main upgrades... 8.1 to 10586 use a lot of data (3GB), the monthly updates are much smaller.

Sorry if my post title is a little longwinded - but these three problems seem to be related. After installing and running MSE I have been unable to update definitions either manually or automatically. At the same time I noticed that microsoft automatic updates are getting to around 28 percent and then stopping - not fully downloading or installing. I cannot get through to any microsoft websites now - but all other sites are fine. wuauserv and bits are missing from services also. Have I been sneakily virused by something which MSE hasnt picked up. I tried to run malicious software removal tool - it downloads alright but wont install - says its not a valid win32 application. I correctly downloaded the 32bit app. Can anyone shed some light on any of this. I dont want to rebuild again - again. Thanks.

Hello I am hoping someone can provide some assistance in getting rid of this BSOD problem Here is what happened I was using two driver update programs One called Driver Booster by Iobit and the other called Slimdrivers I updated various drivers including Nvidia which I had previously uninstalled but it kept popping up so I just let it go The next thing I know after that is installed and there were no more drivers left to install I ran Windows Update and it also wanted to installed Nvidia again NVidia other updates and BSOD installing updates after driver I didn't have much choice in the matter before I knew it it was installing and I had to restart my computer When the computer turned on again I used it for a little while then it started to overheat something terrible The computer was so hot I thought it was going to start on fire Almost as soon as it started overheating I got the BSOD and within a second it restarted or shut down I can't remember which The fan was running at top speed but that still wasn't enough I could have cooked an egg on the backside of this thing So the next day I started the computer up again and I uninstalled Nvidia completely using Iobit's Uninstaller to remove all traces of it in my computer But the other problem I have now is that it still runs dangerously hot within a few hours I've uploaded the BSOD after installing NVidia updates and other driver updates zip file as per the instructions There must be some kind of conflict going on Any help is greatly appreciated

A:BSOD after installing NVidia updates and other driver updates

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup program before you upload another zip.

Until the October 2014 updates I would always receive a sytray notice of which updates had been installed. To clarify, after new Windows Updates were installed and with or without a reboot of the system, I would receive a systray notification that new updates had been installed and upon clicking that notification a window would open and show the updates that had been installed and success or failure status.

I no longer receive that notification. This was true for the October and November patch Tuesday updates. I can open Windows Update and select View Update History and see that the updates were installed but the systray notification only showed the latest installation history and was more convenient that having to open Windows Update to view the update history.

Anyone have any idea as to what caused the systray notification to stop working after updates were installed? OS is Win 7 Home Premium SP 1.

TIA for any replies.

Hi, it seems like I get no more updates offered when I search for updates. My latest important updates are from 05.10.13. Since then I only get the same 42 optional updates shown. Shouldn't there be a few new ones (important and optional ones) since one month? Yesterday I read about the new IE11, that didn't show up either. Is there a website with a history of all released updates so I can check if there are any updates released/available that I didn't get offered in the last month?

IE 11 isn't being offered through Windows Updates yet, except in certain areas.
The latest Important Updates should have been installed around 8th October
What happens if you attempt to install any of the optional updates?

I am using Office 2013 Pro & it does not show updates in the normal Windows Update section on my computer. I would like to be able to see which Office updates are available & to install them as I do with the usual Windows Updates. Can anyone suggest a solution please.

A:How do I get Office 2013 updates to show in Windows Updates.

Just a random thought. Does your computer have the "Click-to-Run" version of Office installed? Updates for the C2R version do not appear in Windows Update or WSUS. Updates are downloaded in the background automatically (whether you want them to or not).

You can identify C2R by looking under the File tab. There will be a button that shows update options (on or off) and the version number. Another way to identify C2R is in Window's Programs & Features. With C2R, you no longer have the ability to add or delete Office applications.

Hi Zeek1017,

Welcome to Seven forums.

You should go ahead with all the updates on the system. As updates whether for the drivers or software provide better security and more features to the particular hardware or software.

However, it is always recommended to create a restore point manually before updating the system so that if required you can revert as well:

System Restore Point - Create

This tutorial would show you how you can perform system restore if required:

System Restore

Lastly. check this tutorial for setting updates automatically if you wish to do so:

Windows Update Settings - Change

Hope this answers your query. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

all transform and into Windows with a Windows or skin It's not just like how you could ignore some updates and be fine enforced telemetry and basically spying on all users is being enforced Screenshots I saw were not like the usual windows updates My main desktop has Linux Mint and Windows x Ultimate The last update I've made for Windows was in June I don't boot into it much anymore since my only main reason to keep x ultimate is for some gaming that somehow CrossOver a proprietary program made to emulate Windows applications that are complex like games much better than just updates... that that another on recently updates Read Win7/8.1 forum Wine and also there is Steam Read on another forum that Win7/8.1 updates that recently updates... on Linux But still there is some games that I play that only work well with win Should I disable updates Because from what I saw and believe me I've seen your stickied thread and will take a look at it but apparently resistance is futile now when people only receive one update which is a quot package quot when they are setup like me quot notify me of new updates let me update myself' that does not say much what it does but apparently creates deep changes to even the kernel of win Correct me if wrong and all hope is not lost

Last week I formatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Win7.
Windows update found 99 updates, eventually these were all installed.
No progs were loaded at this time. More than half have failed; five pages full on a 22" monitor. Many are 'important'. jpeg shows about 1/5 of the failures.

I have uninstalled one and reinstalled and it worked, but it was slow. How can I force a large quantity of updates to reinstall?

Thank you!

A:Win7 32x, format & reload, win updates 60% failing (50+ updates)

Welcome to the Forum.

When doing that amount of Updates it is always better to do just a few at a time as there are some that need a reboot to finish installing properly, especially the .net ones.

If you could fill in your System Specs so the experts know just what machine you have it will make things a lot easier for them to help you with any problems, don't forget we can't see your machine so have no idea what you are using. There can often be differences between using a laptop to a desktop plus knowing what security software you use can help.

Again Welcome to the forum and I hope you can get the help you need.

Please help me get this fixed and up to date. I need this pc to be able to work from home. I need to have some sort of a life. I need your knowledge. Thank you in advance.

Regards,
pj

Receiving in WU about 4 security updates for .Net Framework 4.0 and 2 improvement Updates .Net Framework 4.0.

Strange, i'm feeling some of those are already installed....since two or three months

They're still not listed at MS Download Center.

Use Windows Update to find driver updates

In Windows Update click Custom Install in the main column, and then click Select optional hardware updates in the left-hand column.

Windows Update examines all parts of your system to determine what needs updating and it may recommend more than just driver updates. It's a good idea to visit Windows Update regularly for driver updates and other non-critical updates.

My folks PC has Windows 7 and since it has been working perfectly they chose NOT to install SP1 until absolutely required.

This past Tuesday their computer received none of the normal security updates or patches. It did strangely receive the May 2013 Malicious Software Removal Tool but that was it.

What I want to know is it OK to manually download the latest security updates (for May 2013) and will the OS recognize them without a problem and if I do this would it conflict with when I actually install SP1 at a later date.

Any experts please chime in. Thanks.

A:Windows 7 WITHOUT SP1. No may updates on tuesday. Manual updates ok?

I recommend installing Service Pack 1 first before you install the security updates . Windows requires the SP to get the recent security updates .

Hi,

For a while now I have been experiencing a strange problem. My laptop keeps changing the Windows Updates without my consent. I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.

I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".

This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update.

The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Win7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.

Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?

Many thanks for any help offered.

Regards

Paul

A:Win7 Updates changes settings to Never Check for Updates

First off IMHO constantly doing updates isn't always the best thing to do. MS is not infallible and sometimes puts out updates that cause problems.

If your system is running fine why bother doing updates all the time.

If you want all the updates then set it to check, download and install Auto. then you don't have to worry about it at all.

If the problem continues, the setting being changed to Never Check then more then likely you have some malware, of some type, on your system. Windows does not do that by itself. If anything it would change it to Always check, DL and install Auto, not the other way.

Recently installed MS Office 2007 onto my Win 7 Pro OS.
The only 2 programs selected are Word and PowerPoint - for all others 'Not Available' was selected.

My problem is that MS keeps sending me update notices. I don't want these updates and they are blocking normal Win7 updates (ie have no regular updates since Office was installed and they used to be regular).

Does anyone know of a way I can get around this problem?

(currently there are updates totalling 106MB - all for Office)

I apply MS Updates regularly and have no updates outstanding apart from two optional updates that I don't intend to install. However, when I visit >Programs and Features>View installed updates no Vista security updates are shown. The only updates displayed are those for M$ Office etc. The freeware product System Inspector for Windows shows Vista security updates as installed correctly! I have run the Fix It utility provided by Microsoft with no joy.

Any ideas?

WinXP

I ignore the pop-up window from the notifications area telling me Windows updates are ready to install, I'm busy. Then I'm ready to do it, but there's no icon in the notification area to click to do the install.

I've even gone as far as to do a manual install, just to make sure I've got the latest update. I know I'm fully updated, and then the pop-up window comes up telling me it has that update ready to install again!

Is there a way to retrieve the updates Automatic Updates has ready to install? Reboot?!

Will manually updating confuse Automatic Updates?

TIA, Dan

Hi everyone!

Windows updates are available in different categories: important, recommended and optional.

As noted, some of them, for reasons not known by users, have broken the OS of different users.

In your opinion, what is the best option of choice?

Grateful to all!

A:Windows updates - critical updates and / or recommended

Make a full system backup of your machine and then install all updates.
If an update makes your machine unbootable, you can restore your backup.

A:Cannot Complete Installing Updates, or Check for New Updates HELP

Hello dlolley and welcome to Seven Forums.

According to the Advanced SystemCare diagnose report you provided there seems to be a problem with something called Tuneup 2012 or Tuneup Utilities. I'm not sure if this is a different product from Advanced SystemCare that generated your report or if Tuneup 2012 is a part of Advanced SystemCare. In any case, these tuneup utilities can cause major damage to operating system files, the registry, etc. I would suggest uninstalling them. Windows 7 isn't like XP which required constant tweaking to work right.

Then I would run a full anti-virus scan with your installed anti-malware suite. No anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it. So after running that scan I would follow up with some additional scans using these free tools. Don't forget to update the data bases before running the scans.:

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

Windows Defender Offline

If the scans come back clean you could try rolling back your computer to a date/time prior to the update problems using system restore. I would also run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

System Restore

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

When you're finished with the above you can try installing the updates again. Do not use the automatic update setting. Use the setting called Never Check For Updates (Not Recommended). That will be in Step 3 of this tutorial:

Windows Update Settings - Change

When you manually check for updates install them just a few at a time (maybe 3 - 5 at a time.) Keep track of the KB numbers. After installing the first group, restart the computer. If no problems are noted install the next group and restart. If problems do occur you'll know which group to uninstall. Install the updates from that group one at a time and reboot after each one. They'll either all install OK or you'll know which specific update is at fault. Leave that update for last. Continue installing the remaining groups rebooting after each group is installed. This is a much slower process but usually results in a clean install (providing the tuneup utilities you've used haven't caused additional issues.)

I have had a problem with updates failing for a couple months. I have worked with both HP and Microsoft's Vista support teams to no avail. i have tried five or six different methods at the request of the HP and MS support teams to overcome this problem.

i consistently get messages that "Host Proces for Windows Services stopped working and was closed" and that windows will notify me if a solution is available.

the updates generate an error WindowsUpdate_800706BA.

Windows Update does not work, Windows Media Center updates do not work, and now the HP Printer updates no longer work. I'm kind of hanging open here without any of the security patches, OS fixes, and other updates.

any new suggestions would be welcomed!! My MS support guys just stopped responding to my replies about three weeks ago. i fear i'm at the end of his script!!
